[ad_1] Retshegofaditswe Ox Nche scrummaged England into the ground to help the Springboks into Saturday’s Rugby World Cup final. He’s become an overnight sensation. ICYMI: Who has the edge between Springboks and All Blacks? Ox Nche is a huge hit It’s only fair that all South Africans know how to spell Retshegofaditswe and how to pronounce it. Here’s the man himself to lend a hand. It’s not really rocket science either, so there’s no excuse since there are only 16 letters in the name anyway. RWC 1995: Madiba Magic! DEBATE: Frans Steyn 2007 or Handre Pollard 2023? [embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYDspG-0SHE[/embed] Ox Nche chats about his rugby upbringing back in 2017. Video: YouTube. POLLARD STEERS SPRINGBOKS TO A DATE WITH NEW ZEALAND There’s also a massive case for Pollard starting that final. Of course, there is. Just look what he produced last night, and what he managed four years ago in Japan. He showed his priceless value off the bench against England, scoring exactly half of South Africa’s 16 points, including a gobsmackingly cool penalty from around 50 metres to ultimately win the game. In 2019, the ice-cold Pollard kicked 22 of South Africa’s 32 points against England in Yokohama, including six out of eight penalties and two conversions from two attempts. This man really does have what it takes on the grandest occasions. What we’ve also seen is that Springbok management isn’t shy to make tough calls for the good of the team. If Libbok starts the final, Pollard is an absolutely sensational get-out-of-jail-free card. Cheetahs and Sharks eager to capitalise on good Currie Cup starts
The Cheetahs and Sharks are eager to capitalise on their strong starts to the Currie Cup when they face the Griffons and Griquas away respectively on Sunday afternoon. The two sides have swapped opponents, after the Cheetahs got their campaign off to a flying start with a thumping 42-19 win at a traditionally tough Griqua Park in Kimberley, while the Sharks comfortably defeated the Griffons 32-16 in Durban. ALSO READ: Currie Cup result – Pumas clinch thrilling win over Lions With both teams managing to pick up bonus points in those wins, they will be targeting the same in the second round of fixtures. Currie Cup first division champs the Griffons will be fired up for their first home game back in the top flight and they will want to impress against the Cheetahs at the North West Stadium in Welkom (kick-off 2pm). Adding to the excitement is the match being a Free State derby, which will have added meaning for many of the players involved. The Cheetahs, featuring stars like Frans Steyn and Ruan Pienaar, will be firm favourites to pick up another bonus point win, but if the Griffons can draw inspiration from the home crowd and the occasion, they may be able to make a game of it. “The Griffons are a physical team and have a good kicking game. The most important thing will be to be mentally switched on,” said Cheetahs coach Hawies Fourie ahead of the match. “We want to build on last week’s performance. We haven’t played our best rugby yet. So there’s more to come, and we want to improve in every game we play. There’s a lot of room for improvement, especially on attack.” Good start After a good start to the competition the Sharks will also be favourites in their clash with the Griquas at Griqua Park (kick-off 4pm). The visitors will be well aware of what a tough place Kimberley is to go and play in, but having done the double over the hosts in last year’s Currie Cup, will be confident of picking up a third win on the trot. Both games were however close, with the Sharks winning 24-23 at home and then 13-6 away, but if the Griquas don’t drastically improve from their opening performance against the Cheetahs, they will stand no chance on Sunday. Rugby Cheetahs, USA Falcons Collide In Litmus Test

Rugby Cheetahs, USA Falcons Collide In Litmus Test
The USA Falcons will be seeking a morale-boosting victory over the South African provincial squad Cheetahs in Bloemfontein on Friday as part of their preparation in the buildup to their Rugby World Cup Qualifier Series next month.
The American team is a secondary squad—consisting of only Major League Rugby players—and will be playing under the national team banner but competing as the USA Falcons throughout their two-match tour of South Africa.
2022 Free State Cheetahs vs USA National A
In November, the Falcons will have to tough it out against Hong Kong, Kenya and Portugal in Dubai for the final place in next year’s World Cup.
The team will want to test themselves against one of the best provincial teams in South Africa in the form of the Cheetahs.
Similarly, the Cheetahs will look to return to their winning ways after they slumped to a 21-14 defeat against an Emerging Ireland side a week ago. A favorable result against a Gary Gold-coached international team will serve as massive relief for Hawies Fourie’s Cheetahs, who start their inaugural European Challenge campaign in two months.
Admittedly, neither side will be boasting a full-strength lineup. The visitors will be missing all their foreign-based players, while eight first-choice Cheetahs squad members are unavailable for selection due to injury.
For all their attacking prowess, the Cheetahs are notorious for their defensive frailties and given Gold’s experience and intel of the game in South Africa, that is one facet which the American outfit will surely look to exploit to create ample scoring opportunities.
Should the home side continue playing in this way, there is every chance that the outcome of the game will hinge on which team gains supremacy at the scrum, breakdown and lineout.

[ad_1] Handre Pollard. (Photo by David Rogers/Getty Images) Springbok flyhalf Handre Pollard's Leicester Tigers debut in an England Premiership match towards Saracens lasted barely half-hour after he went off injured on Saturday.Pollard left the Bok camp in Australia through the Rugby Championship attributable to a knee harm and he once more limped off after 27 minutes.Leicester succumbed 51-18 within the sport. The excellent news for Springbok head coach Jacques Nienaber was that Damian Willemse, who slotted at 10 through the Rugby Championship, was totally match sufficient to characteristic for the Stormers at No 12 towards Edinburgh. The Boks had been pressured to make use of veteran Frans Steyn towards Argentina in Durban, who was unconvincing in his first begin for the Boks within the position in 14 years, after Willemse suffered a head harm in Buenos Aires. The extent of Pollard's harm will not be but recognized, however he now turns into a doubt for the Springboks' end-of-year European tour. Ian Foster backs impact players: 'There's no blame at all on the bench'
10:28pm, 02 October 2021 Despite leading their rematch with the Springboks 20-11 nearing halftime, the All Blacks fell away in the second stanza, conceding 14 unanswered points, and ultimately suffered a 31-29 defeat.ADVERTISEMENTSouth Africa struggled in the second quarter of the match but a triple substitution in the 38th minute saw front-rowers Steven Kitshoff, Malcolm Marx and Vincent Koch join the fray and add some real impetus at scrum-time.The likes of Elton Jantjies and Frans Steyn also helped turn the tide of the game in the second half, with Steyn’s accurate long punts causing more than a few issues for the men in black and Jantjies nailing a long-range drop goal late in the match to put New Zealand under immense pressure with time almost up on the clock.
Ian Foster and Ardie Savea react to the All Blacks’ defeat to the Springboks.
Ian Foster and Ardie Savea react to the All Blacks’ defeat to the Springboks. Those five substitutions were ultimately pivotal in the final result and Springboks coach Jacques Nienaber will be content with the knowledge that his side boasts can finish strongly and win the tight battles when they matter most. For All Blacks coach Ian Foster, the outcome wasn’t quite so positive. After last weekend’s narrow victory, Foster switched up his bench for the rematch. Changes included swapping TJ Perenara from the starting lineup to the reserves and elevating Brad Weber into the No 9 jersey, bringing in Asafo Aumau and George Bower as substitute front-rowers and reintroducing Richie Mo’unga to the team after a long absence. While the Springboks improved following the introduction of their bench, the All Blacks faded.ADVERTISEMENTThe NZ reserve front-rowers brought useful energy in the loose but the set-piece suffered. Although the lineout was never operating smoothly, substituting Codie Taylor, Scott Barrett and Luke Jacobson off the park in the second half turned it into a huge weakness, with the All Blacks losing multiple lineouts on both attack and defence. The scrum, meanwhile, was also folding backwards and it was only through the good work of captain Ardie Savea that the All Blacks weren’t pinged on both offensive and defensive feeds. The issues were also evident in the backline, with TJ Perenara’s delivery a marked step down from the quickfire passes of Weber while Mo’unga looked very much short of match fitness and struggled to make any impact with ball in hand. The Springboks have played everyone – the All Blacks included – like fiddles. #RSAvNZL #Springboks #AllBlackshttps://t.co/HTAZjKjfyl— RugbyPass (@RugbyPass) October 3, 2021ADVERTISEMENTThe one shining light for the All Blacks was Ethan Blackadder, who’s never-say-die attitude and infinitely fueled engine a handy addition to the side – but it’s curious why it was Jacobson who left the field instead of Akira Ioane, who has struggled to assert himself against the Springboks after being one the All Blacks’ best throughout the season.Speaking after the match, Foster suggest that the All Blacks did get the impact they wanted from the reserves bench, even if it wasn’t the impact many fans might have been hoping for.“It was a different sort of impact, different situation they came in,” he said. “I thought we finished the first half in quite a strong position and I think the problem-solving on the park was really, really good.“The third quarter, we just muddled around a little bit. They tried to come at us through their set-piece and I thought we hung pretty tough in that space but in that last quarter, we perhaps struggled to play with the ball in their half and that was the area that I thought we got a little bit frustrated and didn’t have quite the direction that we needed to, so we’ll go and have a look at that.“But there’s no blame at all on the bench. It’s a tough old game and the South Africans threw everything at us and probably played their best game in many ways and turned it into one of those traditional games we’ve had over the last three or four years and a lot of them seem to go down to the last few minutes.”The third quarter of the match was when Foster had earlier identified as the changing of the tide.“To lose any game at the end when you’ve got control of it is frustrating but massive arm wrestle really,” he said.“I thought the South Africans played superbly. They came with a lot of attitude, they carried hard, they moved us around and really challenged us in many ways, particularly in that third quarter. I thought they had a really strong third quarter and got us a bit flustered but I just like the way we hung in there and we found a way.“We did some nice things, we took some great opportunities early in the game, scored some nice tries and got ourselves into a winning position but then lacked a little bit of discipline in that last two minutes.”With the likes of Joe Moody, Ofa Tuungafasi and Mo’unga still short of minutes, and important figures such as Sam Whitelock, Sam Cane and Aaron Smith set to return to action in the coming months, the All Blacks will undoubtedly improve as a unit but for the men in the reserves, they may find their opportunities limited moving forward, such is the depth of the squad. The selectors will likely employ every player in the team over the coming five matches to round out the year, but whether someone lines up against Italy or France, the USA or Ireland, could come down to how their ledger looked over the past five games – and last night’s loss to the Springboks will certainly play a role in some pla

Australia 25-17 South Africa: Rugby Championship Test – as it happened
The Wallabies have produced an emphatic performance to defeat South Africa 25-17 in Adelaide. Player of the match Marika Koroibete was inspirational for the hosts in defence and attack, powering them to victory.
In the dying seconds South Africa cross again! Tap and go from Smith from the Valetini yellow card, but that’s pretty much the final action of the match.
The very final moment is Jantjies dabbing over a Sevens-style drop-goal.
South Africa run it back and find some room on the right to hit the 22. There’s a nice combination in midfield to put Etzebeth through and the momentum builds. A penalty revives the impetus and the Springboks are in sight of the line. Valetini does his best to repel the inevitable – illegally – and he has to leave the field early.
The Springboks work through the phases past halfway and show some rare inventiveness in possession. It undoes them eventually though with one pass too many picked off by Samu and Australia clear.
