Due South Timestamp Roulette Challenge: Seeing is Believing (S03E05): 7, 10, 12, 14, 16, 33, 35 minutes.
One of this week's stacked rewatch episode - and actually my favorite episode of Due South. :D (I guess I made the most gifs from this particular one. ^^) This time, I skipped the classic scenes, and let the roulette decide which moments I would make gif from. Here we are! :)

Timestamp Roulette Art Challenge (sort of): Seeing is Believing
At first, I was going to make a realistic version of Welsh, Thatcher, Fraser and Ray just to be able to paste them on the Abbey Road album cover, but then Frannie wanted to be in the pic, too, so the Fab Four became the Even More Fab Five, and in the end I really couldn't bother with all the meticulous coloring and looking for clearer face references that fit the walking scene. So, a digital doodle.

Due South - Call of the Wild - Deleted Scenes!!
I was digging around on youtube for dS-related content (as you do) and I came across these clips of deleted/altered scenes from Call of the Wild!
Clips, links, and additional information below...
From the video descriptions: "This scene was in the original CTV broadcast of "Due South" finale "Call of the Wild" and was cut before later broadcasts. It's not on the DVD releases, either. Sorry that this video isn't better quality. It was downloaded from the Internet about 10 years ago and I haven't been able to find it or a better-quality version of it since."
"Fraser converses with Dief"
youtube
2. "Francesca reacts to her brother's appearance at the police station"
youtube
3. "Fraser and Thatcher share a last kiss"
youtube
Which aligns with the changes made to CotW as documented on William & Elyse's due South News page. (image text available in alt text)

Friend Of The Family
A miscellaneous post-case snippet found in my Due South WIPs that I'm finally deciding to post here; I feel like it's too short for AO3 (~350 words) but it's complete and I like it, so here you go! Some classic RayV and Fraser friendship feat. the Vecchio household. All feedback appreciated :)
---
Evening at the Vecchio house, and everything was surprisingly quiet. In fact, it was only the steady shushing of running water which disturbed the pasta-scented peace- until Ray's patience came to an end. He knocked doggedly on the bathroom door, eager to get drain slime off him, and called out.
"Hey Frannie, wanna leave some hot water for the rest of Chicago?"
Hearing her brother's yell, Francesca appeared in the doorway- of her bedroom across the hall. "Hey Ray, wanna leave some stupid for the rest of Chicago?"
Ray was confused at her presence. "If you're out here, who's been slow-cooking themselves for the last forty minutes?"
"You're the detective." his sister replied, turning away. "Anyway, there'll be enough hot water left for you and your three hairs."
"Hey, hey, wait!" Ray was willing to ignore the jibes in return for his tired brain getting some help. "I'm not in there, you're not in there, Ma's not in there, Maria's...?"
"Out with Tony, two hours ago. Honestly, Ray, I don't-"
"Is it the kids? It's one of those damn kids." Ray hammered on the door again. "Come on, Val, time's u-"
He cut off as the door opened, revealing the one person he'd forgotten. As they wore only a towel round their waist and a pair of socks, they ducked back behind the door after spotting Francesca across the hall.
"Ah, Ray, could you..."
"Frannie, get lost." Her door slammed with an eye roll and a huff. "Ok, Benny, coast's clear."
Fraser peered around cautiously to check for himself before picking up the toiletries he'd been lent, looking apologetic. "I'm terribly sorry, Ray, I must have lost track of time."
"Hey, no problem."
"Well it was quite the problem just two minutes ago." Fraser pointed out.
"Nah not really, not when it's you." Ray went into the bathroom, amazed at the amount of steam it contained. "My lot could empty Lake Michigan daily with the length of their showers. With you, it's once in a blue moon." The Mountie didn't pretend to understand, but took the friendly shove in his back as a hint. "Go on, get dressed. I'll be down in time for dinner."

the ask meme for due south cause yeah! and cobra kai
thaaanks -- will do cobra kai separately!
DUE SOUTH! I'VE ONLY HAD YOU FOR (checks) TWO MONTHS? NOW? AND I HAVENT EVEN WATCHED PASSED SEASON TWO BECAUSE I AM TAKING MY SWEET TIME!!!!! BUT OHHHHHH OKOKOKOK
my favorite female character Meg!!! doubly so because I feel she's probably not popular because she's designated The Love Interest. but she's sooo "puts her under a microscope." - she's so very autism flat voice/resting bitch face coded - add to this she canonically has had issues with male superiors in the past and so her trust in men is Lowww means people around her read her as a bitch (and she is, bless her) - her interactions with fraser, especially once they begin to acknowledge there's mutual smthin going on there, are so fucking funny, because neither of them can just have conversations, it's gotta be a mix of powerplay/who-knows-what-this-is/wants to step on/wants to be stepped on nonsense and so often it's in public!!!! - she was introduced as an authority figure and pretty much has remained so all season, so a lot of her scenes aren't only about love-interest stuff, which is often where female characters fail to get fleshed out -- she's doing her own thing, and if anything, liking fraser is very very annoying to her because she's got shit to do dammit!
my favorite male character fraser and rayv come as such a set pair, argh. the things i like about fraser are the things that rayv corresponds to, the whole martyr-and-guy-who-refuses-to-let-him-be-martyr, the need to give everything and the guy who takes some of the strain, but... i do think fraser edges him out Just (not that kind of edging, stop), because in my heart of hearts, i am always drawn the most to characters who want to be used, characters who want to give every piece of themselves, and within that, characters who are very capable -- AND he fulfills the criteria for another one of my favourite character archetypes, the not-so-talked about butterfly-under-the-wheel (as i first heard @gjdraws call it) he's an atypical version of it, because usually the butterfly-under-the-wheel is partially defined by their inability, that is, they exist to create wonderment/beauty/hope in the world around them, but they don't actually have very many skills and would probably die without the far more pragmatic other characters around them. they do sometimes have a skill (see, lito in sense8) and where fraser fits is that while he has many skills, they're often impractical for survival in the specific world he's in (chicago, capitalism, Society) and his alienation with the world, his unique way of looking at it, constantly makes said world dangerous for him in ways ray has to help him with. he also sucks with money (very common in this type), is considered almost unreal in terms of attractiveness, and ofc... suffers a lot. my sweet sweet butterfly-on-the-wheel
my favorite book/season/etc feels unfair between two seasons -- i will say, i called s2 a denouement the first time i watched it and i think now im watching it slower i am far more able to see it on its own merits, without s1 hanging over it if i do a favourite amount of episodes divided by the amount of episodes in the season however and don't count the Pilot [i leave to calculate] think s2 has more of my very favourite episodes, but i think s1 is more evenly placed in quality overall. what does that tell you? idk, the Pilot's the favourite, shall we say?
my favorite episode (if its a tv show) lol um. toss up. (not counting Pilot) in no particular order: some like it red, mask, vault, north, letting go, the deal, a hawk and a handsaw
my favorite cast member going by amount of other things ive watched, it must be PG, but i have tried to mostly stay away from the cast in interviews and the like
my favorite ship relationship generally (romantic, platonic, third thing, you know the deal) is fraser and ray. like i said, they're thematically a pair, that's just what they are. but i have a reaaal need to explore meg and fraser and ray, considering the shenanigans of two people who feel various kinds of unhinged things about one emotionally somewhat oblivious (but very caring) man
a character I’d die defending gosh, this'd probably go to meg too. specifically her relevance! i think her addition in s2 is incredibly welcome and changes up the dynamics in interesting ways and if you take in her actual personality -- that is, look beyond her "just" as a love interest, she's got a whole lot of interesting foundation, fascinating speech patterns and behaviours, and chemistry with fraser (whether one wants that chemistry to be romantic/sexual is obvs subjective, but their scenes together are Good and tell us a whole lot about both of them in my opinion) i'd also defend victoria As A Scheming No-Good Villainous Person, because I think there's no need to soften her in order to make her cool, idk if that is being done, but i would die on the "her being absolutely terrible" hill is great actually (maybe i'm defending her from some of the writing not wanting to commit, despite... literally all the atrocities... she shot dief!!!??? she burnt down his dad's cabin????? she framed him and tried to send his most important person to jail??????? murder????? and you're telling me that despite all of that she wasn't manipulating him by batting her big beautiful eyes and pretending to be the victim! i desire cruel women in my life dammit!)
a character I just can’t sympathize with i mean... looks above. victoria? but i think she shouldn't be sympathetic anyway. she needs to be a bit vile, a bit fucked up, a bit possessive and destructive for my taste oh and fuck frank zuko of course
a character I grew to love 1. irene! i struggled with her on my first watch and now she's in so many of the private discussions i have about this show -- she does sadly fall right into "fridged woman for man angst" but there are more than enough bits in there + carrie anne moss' performance is absolutely stellar, that you can really feel her as a character as well -- someone trapped, searching for freedom, and nostalgic for something that was probably never going to work out even if they had been able to try it and bitter and stronger than people in the story give her credit for (and ohhhh where's that fic you wrote about her and fraser talking!) 2. frannie. i needed until s2, because s1 just... kept making her weird and stalkery and shallow in ways that i had to just, at times, mentally rewrite (her total lack of situational awareness whilst her brother is drowning in front of her only to be put upon when he's been saved and needs "her good blanket" to keep him warm is like. i simply do not see that scene). but after heaven and earth, beginning with that scene between her and ray, she changes! and you can buy someone building a fantasy and refusing to step out of it because of pain until jolted back into reality and it being a very subtly tragic thing, only to bounce back and take it on the chin. that's frannie!
my anti otp um. i guess fraser and allosexuality/alloromance. that man's relationship to these things is not normative -- he may be analysed to enjoy sex or to want romance, but textually he is so fucking leftfield with these things that if those underpinnings don't exist i can't understand him. my man was canonically asking people to describe what love is supposed to feel like as a 30+ year old man, and had had sex like... possibly once in his 20s (and the consensual aspects to it are vague) and then that same woman at one point in his 30s, who first severely emotionally blackmailed/coerced him and later threatened his life and the lives of his friends that and like. whatever happens to him whenever someone (meg, usually) pushes him around/grabs him/orders him about
hon. mention to elaine, who i feel has been slowly given less to do in s2 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

(Stacked Rewatch / Timestamp Roulette Art Challenge)
This is my very first attempt with gouache. :D It was a frustrating experience; I nearly abandoned this half-way through, but then realized I had no inspiration to start anything else for this episode, so I dutifully colored the rest of the page without any clue what I was doing.
As I was trying to mix these fast-drying tube paints, I realized one thing I've really come to love about oil pastels during my dS art project is that I can mix my colors on the spot, on paper (also, a vast variety of colors so I don't necessarily have to mix any myself). But I also realized I want to learn how to work with gouache as it seems such a versatile medium - I'll go watch some instruction videos on YouTube now!

1 Actor, 2 Characters - Due South : Pilot
Inspired by my realization that RCMP Officer 2 (Pilot) and Jocelyn Kerr (The Ladies' Man) are both played by Jennifer (Jen) Parsons, I decided to check the cast list from IMDb and see if there were any other actors who appear as 2 (or more) different characters in the due South universe. To my surprise, there are several from the pilot alone! Many of these characters lack readily available screenshots (and some I couldn't identify by name alone) so I went through the episodes to compile this side-by-side list.
I may continue this search through the rest of the episodes, mainly relying on cast information from IMDb, the credits of the episodes themselves, and these wonderful annotated transcripts. And since some characters are unnamed and/or uncredited, maybe I'll even spot some new ones! Also, I am 100% open to contributions and/or corrections, so if anyone has anything they'd like to add, I'm all ears!
Without further ado, listed by actor and mostly in order of appearance...
Paul Gross - I almost skipped PG before remembering that he has indeed played another character on dS! So here's PG as Benton Fraser (Pilot) and as Frannie's German fiancé (Dead Men Don't Throw Rice, S4E5)
2. Kimberly Ange - RCMP Officer 1 and also appears in Victoria's Secret Part 2 (S1E21) as an attorney named Boswell (credited as Kim Ange)
and
3. Jennifer Parsons, the one who started it all - RCMP Officer 2 and also appears in The Ladies' Man (S4E3) as Jocelyn Kerr, who wants to have bark tea with Fraser (credited as Jen Parsons)
4. Scot Dentor/Denton - RCMP Officer 4 (credited as Scot Dentor in the pilot but listed on IMDb as Scot Denton). IMDb also identifies Scot Denton as the uncredited actor who plays Pierce (the ambassador targeted in The Edge, S2E9)
5. Barry Kennedy *** - This one I'm not so sure on. Barry Kennedy plays a character called Bert Jenkins in the Pilot but as far as I could tell, no character is called this aloud in the episode itself. Working backwards from Kennedy's other dS credit (Sgt Eddie Polito in The Ladies' Man, S4E3, uncredited, per IMDb), I still struggled with a definitive ID. Based on the annotated transcript of TLM, I believe the man on the right in TLM screenshot below is Kennedy's character Polito. Based on this, and the fact that the supporting characters seem to be credited roughly in order of appearance in the Pilot, my best guess is that Kennedy's dS Pilot character is the pilot who talks to Fraser about the lack of geese and beavers. They look like they could possibly be the same guy?? Maybe?
6. Philip Williams - Herb Lantrell, the pilot who gives Fraser the list of American dentists who'd been hunting in the Pilot, also appears as the arms dealer Lloyd P Nash (the P does not stand for pertinent) in Bird in the Hand (S2E4).
7. JD/Jack Nicholsen - the unnamed Airport Hustler (credited as such even though he does return the money to Fraser at the end of the Pilot) is also 2 other characters: Caulfield (one of the bad guys stealing pets in The Wild Bunch, S1E15) and Joey (Denny Scarpa/Lady Shoes' trigger man in Odds, S4E6)
8. Gene Mack - the Chicago Desk Sergeant in the Pilot is also credited as Mason Dixon, the associate of Devlin (the boxing trainer in Mountie & Soul S3E7). Mack is credited as Chicago Desk Sergeant but does have a name tag in the Pilot, although it is quite blurry.
9. Dan Lett - Dr. Weingarten (the dentist in the Pilot) is also Carver Dunn (the creepy fan who uses blackmail to barter for the singer Tracy's stockings in Mountie Sings the Blues, S4E7)
10. Ramona Milano - Francesca Vecchio! And also appears as Deputy Bernie in Dr. Longball (S4E1).
Dr. Longball of course has other main cast members playing different characters, but I plan to cover those as I make my way through the episodes chronologically in the hopes that it'll help me keep track of which actors/episodes I've checked.
11. Sandi Stahlbrand - TV Reporter Shelley Perry from Channel 6 News in the Pilot and TV Reporter Tracy Wightman (apparently from Channel 7) in Red, White, or Blue (S2E17)
12. Kevin Rushton - an honorable mention! I didn't think to include Rushton until I saw the IMDb trivia point him out in the bar scene in the Pilot. Rushton does stunts on the show and presumably appears in several episodes, which I think thereby technically meets the brief of playing multiple characters (unless there is a case to be made that Rushton plays a recurring character role? which could be an interesting take). But either way, shout out to all the dS stunt folks!
IMDb specifically credits Rushton for appearances in Diefenbaker's Day Off (S1E2), A Cop, a Mountie and a Baby (S1E9), You Must Remember This (S1E11), and One Good Man(S2E8).
