The secret, part 2
Hey, I'm back!
Sorry about last week, but I was very, very sick? Very bad attack of flemmingite aigue!
Translated in English, I was feeling lazy as f*ck, so I just watched Youtuvideos. I'm sure you know how it goes. Feeling better now, but still have little to show to show for it.
Speaking of lazyness...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know I waxed lyrical about food and markets and all that jazz, but one can't really live on the local production.
One can only do so much with fish, after all.
So we have SupermarchĂŠs Lapompe. Not Walmart, but the small chain (2 markets) does brsk business with both locals and tourits in both basic nececities... and about a ton of of junk food, let's be honest here. And that's the dirty little secret we're don't really like to talk about.
The Lapompe family also deal in fuel, gas, and electricity proction and storage. Their home lot is shaping to be something else!
I didn't upload that one because it's a very basic one, sure y'all can do just as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Otherwise, I had a CAS moment. I know, weird.
I made that quite big appartent building nect to the market last time, and the inhabitant just came to life in my head. Happens sometimes.
So, meet the Boucicaud family:
Tumblr media
Bernard Boucicaud.
He is the reason the famijy is here, since the building they're residing in belonged to his grandparents. Bernard was born here, tail ending the boomer generation, but he grew up in Paris, since his parent hightailed out of Vogoel to make careers and a life as far away from anything fishy as possible.
Bernard had very nice vacation in his grandmother house as a boy.
However, as his parent fled Vogoel, Bernard fled Paris to traval the world, because he was an artist.
In Delhi, he met
Tumblr media
Lucie
Then Dolman, now Boucicaud. Same kind of story except she's from Marseille.
They both liked to travel, so they did, Bernard managing some free-lance photographing to earn a little money and Lucy learning Yoga and stuff.
Both probably smoking funny stuf.
But time flies, and a baby girl was bord... and there is one day when you long for a nice bed and some creature comfort, so they came back to France.
Infortunately, neither were talented enough as artist to "make it" in the capital. So Bernard remembered his MĂŠmĂŠ house, which his parent didn't really use and were quite happy to get rid of. It provide a far more luxurious accomodation than what they could afford in Paris, and it's would be a far better place for their girl to grow up in.
Tumblr media
And here is said girl, Namaste Boucicaud.
Let's make it clear, not a happy bunny.
First, why did those idiot boomer parents she's saddled with had to name her Namaste? She hates it! honestly, Grertrude would be nicer!
And OMG the parents! Couldn't they be, I don't know, a little bit NORMAL once in a while? (well, they're both Avant Garde, so the teen may have a point here)
At least her father had some job with the local paper, so Namaste could forget the cheesy seagull photos to sell to tourists... and the paintings.
And her mother, still dressing like she was young, in jeans and exotic tops!
Honestly, Namaste can't wait to get her Bacalaureat and flee to Paris to her grand parents who are normal people and call her Nathalie.
"Where you will go to the Beaux Arts, dear. Not of that nonsense about being an accoundtant like your grandfather, do you hear me? Open your chakras, honey..."
But MOOOOMM!!!

Lim! It’s me! I request 8 please 🥺
So, umm, I got a little carried away?
There'd been a shelf of cookbooks in the condo, before it burned down.  Cookbooks that Carlos had bought when he was in college and experimenting with learning how to make Indian food and Thai food and pasta from scratch, books he'd bought at school fundraisers and church Christmas markets, books he'd been given as housewarming presents when he moved into the condo.
When he moved into the loft he realized that Carlos had never replaced them, and even though Carlos hadn't left a space for them in the kitchen, he felt like he could see it anyway, where they would have sat.
He goes on a quest after that.  Some of them are easy to replace from alibris or bookfinder: the 1964 edition of the Joy of Cooking - because apparently the new edition had fucked around with all the recipes, Carlos's words, not his, and he'd stared at Carlos shocked when he'd said it because Carlos doesn't swear all that often unless he's in bed; a soup cookbook from some celebrity chef from the 90s that he's seen Carlos make exactly two recipes out of; a copy of the Silver Palate cookbook that someone at work had given him at a holiday gift exchange.
The church cookbooks and Junior League cookbooks are harder to find, and he takes to scouring second hand bookstores and antique stores and thrift shops on his days off when Carlos is at work.  Sometimes he drags Nancy or Marjan or Paul with him.
"Why are we doing this?" Nancy grouses once.  "I've never seen Carlos use a recipe for anything."
"That's not the point," he snaps, and Nancy backs off with sympathetic eyes.
And, it isn't.  The point is that this is something Carlos had lost that he could maybe give back.  He's never going to be able to replace the pie bird that Carlos bought at the farmer's market when he was 12, or the old wooden rolling pin that had been his abuela's, worn smooth with time and use, or the butter molds his cousin Anna had brought him back from a trip to France.  But this, is something he can do.
It takes longer than he expects, and he ends up with more books than had been in Carlos's collection originally.  But he hadn't been able to resist them, the ones with cheery titles like "Nightingales in the Kitchen" and "Charlottesville: Cooking for Compliments", or the ones filled with someone else's handwritten edits that say things like 'never make this again' or 'add orange juice' or 'your husband will thank you'.
He meant to wait for Carlos's birthday, but he gets impatient, and packs them all in a banker's box and sticks a huge red bow on it, and makes brisket for dinner.  Carlos sniffs appreciatively when he comes home, and doesn't even notice the box on the table until he's coming back from hanging up his coat.
Carlos looks at him, clearly trying to remember if he's forgotten something, and he shakes his head.  "No reason, baby, just because."
"It's not a lizard is it?"
He snorts.  "I wouldn't do that to you, I promise.  You'll like this."
Carlos lifts the books out slowly, turning them over in his hand, stacking them up on the table.  He finally looks at TK.  'I had these at the condo."  He nods. "You bought them for me?"  He nods again, worrying his lip a little, suddenly nervous.  "Why?"
"You kept them, they meant something to you, they had memories for you.  I hate that you lost everything."  He waves a hand when Carlos starts to deny it, or point out that TK did too.  "I know, I was there too, I lost things too.  But, I'd only just moved in, I still had stuff at Dad's.  That was a home you built, and you lost it, and we don't talk about it."  He shifts on his feet, fidgeting with the couch cushion.  "We don't have to talk about it now, just, I wanted you to have something back."  He gestures around the loft. "You give me so much.  You deserve to have everything too."
Carlos kneels up on the couch, wrapping arms around him, kissing him breathless.  He smiles into the kiss.  "You like them then?"
"I love them."  Carlos kisses him again.  "I love you."  And then he pulls back to look speculatively at the kitchen.  "We'll have to rearrange some of the cups to make space for them."

Nourishing the Future of a Deep Dive into the France Baby Food Market
Tumblr media
France Baby Food Market Size
The France baby food market has witnessed substantial growth in recent years, reflecting a societal shift towards prioritizing nutrition for the youngest members of the population. According to the latest market research, the baby food market in France is expected to reach a market size of approximately USD X billion by 2027. This growth is fueled by a combination of factors, including changing parental attitudes toward nutrition, an increase in the working population, and the rising awareness of the importance of early childhood nutrition.
Baby Food Market Share
Within the expansive landscape of France baby food market share is a crucial metric that reflects the competitive dynamics among key players. Leading brands have been jostling for their share of the market, with a focus on providing diverse and nutritionally rich options for infants. Companies like NestlÊ, Danone, and Hero Group have established a significant foothold, accounting for a substantial portion of the market share. However, with an increasing demand for organic and natural baby food, smaller, niche players are carving out their own space in the market.
Baby Food Market Analysis
To comprehend the intricacies of the France baby food market, a comprehensive analysis is imperative. Beyond the evident factors of taste and convenience, parents are becoming more discerning, seeking products that align with global trends in infant nutrition. The market analysis reveals a growing inclination towards organic and clean-label baby food products. This shift is driven by a desire among parents to provide the best start for their infants, avoiding unnecessary additives and preservatives.
Global Rice Cereal for Infant Market
One notable segment within the France baby food market is the global rice cereal for infant market. Rice-based cereals have long been a staple in infant diets, providing a source of essential nutrients. The market for rice cereal for infants has seen steady growth, propelled by its easy digestibility and versatility. However, amidst concerns about arsenic levels in rice products, manufacturers are increasingly investing in research and development to create safer and more nutritious alternatives.
Global Baby Cereal Market
Expanding our lens beyond France, the global baby cereal market mirrors trends observed in the French market. A surge in awareness regarding the nutritional needs of infants has led to an increased demand for fortified and organic baby cereals worldwide. As consumers become more conscious of the ingredients in their children’s food, the global baby cereal market is witnessing a shift towards products that prioritize health and well-being.
Baby Food Market Trends
To stay ahead in the dynamic landscape of the baby food market, it is crucial to understand and adapt to emerging trends. One prevailing trend is the growing popularity of homemade and DIY baby food. Parents are increasingly inclined to prepare baby food at home, ensuring freshness and quality. This trend has prompted baby food manufacturers to focus on transparency in labeling and emphasize the use of natural ingredients.
Additionally, the incorporation of innovative packaging solutions, such as pouches and containers with portion control, caters to the convenience sought by modern parents. These trends indicate a broader societal shift towards more informed and health-conscious parenting practices.
Conclusion
The France baby food market is a dynamic and evolving sector that reflects the changing attitudes and preferences of modern parents. The market size is expanding, driven by an increased awareness of the importance of early childhood nutrition. Key players, both established and emerging, are vying for market share by offering a diverse range of products that align with global trends in infant nutrition.
As we navigate the intricacies of the baby food market in France, the trends of organic and clean-label products, the global rice cereal for infant market, and the rise of DIY baby food signal a promising future. In this landscape, innovation, transparency, and a commitment to providing the best nutritional start for infants will be the driving forces shaping the future of the France baby food market.

Nirsevimab, marketed by Sanofi and AstraZeneca as Beyfortus  is a drug developed to protect infants from RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), a virus that can lead to serious respiratory infections. It was fast-tracked for approval by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in July 2023.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends Beyfortus for infants younger than 8 months entering their first RSV season and for high-risk children aged 8-19 months. The shot is included in the 2024 Childhood Immunization Schedule.
The increased mortality risk and adverse effects of Beyfortus were highlighted by the Japanese journal Med Check, which reanalyzed clinical trial data. Med Check found that infants treated with Beyfortus experienced significantly higher death rates compared to those given a placebo, likely due to adverse effects such as blood clotting (thrombosis). The analysis concluded that “nirsevimab should not be used in any infants.”
These warnings were further confirmed by France’s National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM), which tracked Beyfortus during the 2023-24 RSV season. While the data is based on French cases, it highlights potential serious risks for all infants receiving the shot.
Death cases from SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome):
A newborn found lifeless two-and-a-half hours after a bottle feeding, three days after receiving Beyfortus.
A newborn who received the Beyfortus shot on the second day of life and died 10 days later.
An infant who required intensive care at birth but recovered and received its mandatory injections—including Beyfortus. Two-and-a-half months after the injection, the baby developed an RSV infection and died three days later.

National Milk Chocolate Day
Create yummy desserts, from cake to candy bars, with this light and creamy confectionery on Milk Chocolate Day and enjoy its mood-enhancing effects.
How is milk chocolate different from other chocolates? It’s a mix of cocoa solids and either dry or condensed milk. While dark chocolate is traditionally used as a baking ingredient, this lighter version is used to make chocolate candy bars, hot chocolate, and many other delicious desserts.
Did you know that chocolate actually has mood-enhancing benefits? That’s right—chocolate can make you happy! This is due to the fact that it contains a stimulant called theobromine and a compound called anandamide. Now that’s a reason to celebrate!
History of National Milk Chocolate Day
Daniel Peter, the inventor of milk chocolate, was born in the village of Moudon, located in the Canton of Vaud, in beautiful, mountainous Switzerland in 1836. Peter attended school and graduated there.
Later on in life, Daniel Peter had formed a strong friendship with his neighbor, Henry Nestle, who had settled in Vevey, Switzerland, about 1843. Nestle had developed a process to make baby food in which he used what was then called a “milky flour.” It was at this point in his life that Daniel Peter asked himself the question, “Why not try to make a chocolate containing milk?”
This idea stayed with the young Daniel Peter to the point of becoming an obsession with him. He further realized that in order to stay in the chocolate market, already principally controlled by Caliller, Suchard, Kohler, and others, he must produce a new product that would become
pleasing and desired by the consumer. It should be noted by all that since the early 20th century, the countries of Europe have been producing milk chocolate of varying qualities.
It should also be understood that the development of the process by Daniel Peter was created in the community of Vevey, with the Canton of Vaud, in Switzerland, and further pointed out that the first chocolate process, although not milk chocolate, was also created in Vevey, Switzerland, by Francois Louis Cailler, at the age of twenty-three, upon his return to that community from France and Italy in 1819.
Our research has found that National Milk Chocolate Day was started by the Confectioner’s Association.

Calling all chocolate lovers! National Milk Chocolate Day is celebrated annually on July 28. When solid chocolate is combined with either powdered, liquid or condensed milk; it’s known as milk chocolate. Milk chocolate is the most popular member of the chocolate family and with good reason. It’s creamy, smooth and mostly used in candy bars. It is believed that in the mid-1800s, milk chocolate was first created as a beverage in Germany. The first milk chocolate, in the form of a bar that we all recognize today, was created by Swiss chocolatier Daniel Peter while collaborating with Henri Nestlé, the founder of his Nestlé chocolate company.  So if you’re a true chocoholic, get ready to celebrate all things milk chocolate!

National Milk Chocolate Day Activities
Eat a candy bar
Bake a cake
Drink your chocolate
Since it's National Milk Chocolate Day, your task is a delicious one. Grab your favorite milk chocolate candy bar and enjoy.  With so many mouth-watering choices like caramel, coconut or cookie nugget — take your pick. Then, spend some time licking the melted good stuff off your fingers.
During the Victorian era, baking a cake was expensive because sweet ingredients like sugar, chocolates and exotic fruits, were considered   as luxuries. Only the nobility and the upper middle class could afford cakes for birthdays, weddings or holidays. As prices dropped, every special occasion included a cake, ideally made out of milk chocolate and stacked in multiple layers.
No kids allowed. Dessert cocktails are perfect when you’re having a chocolate craving. They’re rich, creamy and made to satisfy that sweet tooth. Your favorite alcoholic beverage can be a perfect complement to milk chocolate.
Why We Love National Milk Chocolate Day
It’s the perfect ingredient
It's sweet yet adaptable
Don't believe the negative hype about milk chocolate not being nutritious
Nothing gets us more excited to bake than the idea of whipping up  a milky, chocolaty dessert when we're done. Whether the recipe uses milk chocolate chips or a milk chocolate bar,  a chocolate craving provides the perfect excuse to create a decadent, totally self-indulgent treat. Chocolate pudding, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, a triple-layered cake, whatever, just as long as the main ingredient is milky, silky, chocolate. Don't forget to lick the bowl!
We all know you can eat the sweet treat but did you know there are other uses for it, too? Milk chocolate is sometimes used in products for hair and skin care because it  contains little-known ingredients that are beneficial to your skin. The level of antioxidant compounds in cocoa is higher than that of green tea, black tea or red wine.
Ok, so the nutritional benefits of milk chocolate are not as extensive as those found in dark chocolate. But milk chocolate still has a lot going for it. For example, milk chocolate gives you stamina because it stimulates your brain and your emotions. Also, eaten in moderation, milk chocolate gives our bodies the fat we need in our daily diet.
