Excerpt from Andrew First AU:

Now it’s taking everything in him to walk calmly through the fancy lobby of the fancy hotel with Neil following behind him and Neil’s face and hair covered by a hoodie. There’s no one in the lobby at this hour and Andrew pulls out his room key so they can head up to the penthouse.

Neil is swaying on his feet but Andrew is too angry to support him so he lets Neil slump slightly against the wall of the elevator.

They exit the elevator and enter the short hallway to the penthouse before Andrew uses his key to open the room that he has booked for the week.

“…Drew….I-I…” Neil tries voice shaking and Andrew just walks towards the bathroom without touching him. Neil follows along silently without finishing what he had been going to say. He’d booked this hotel due in large part to the bathroom.

He’d imagined this Neil getting his first taste of luxury here. The large soaking tub where this Neil could wash away all the grime, where Andrew could dye his hair to the right color, where Neil could relax and accept that Andrew was taking care of him now.

“Take out those stupid contacts.” He spits and Neil struggles to stand in front of the mirror. His hands shake as he takes out the contacts but Andrew finally has Neil’s eyes back. Neil stands there in front of the mirror unsure of what to do.

i'm in the midst of planning for my fifth (!!) ficlet month this November, where i challenge myself to write one small fic per day for a whole month, so i figured i might rec some of my favorites from past months.

I think that's all? Maybe? Obviously some of them are incredibly old (I started working on 'Everything' in like March of 2016 and only a partial document was recovered on my docs so...that's not being finished at this point) but uhhh...yeah. There's more on my old laptop probably, before I started using google docs for everything. I'm not tagging that many people so please feel free to do this if you'd like and just say I tagged you!

I’ve been trying to think of a plausible check please au for the foxhole court and have since given up so instead I present to you: the foxhole court/check please crossover no one wanted

ok so let’s just Pretend these two series somehow take place in the same universe

anyway

so after jack and bitty come out, there’s a lot of talk about the importance of pro athlete LGBT folk sticking together

jack’s like “we could host a benefit for You Can Play or something, focusing on LGBT athletes"

now

there aren’t that many out pro athletes

but among that small number are these two guys named Neil and Andrew, who play something called Exy? Jack’s never heard of it but apparently, it’s like the bastard child of ice hockey and some other sports (it’s the ice hockey part he cares about anyway)

so he puts them on the invite list too

Neil, opening the invitation: do you want to go to this banquet for LGBT athletes?

Andrew: no

Neil: me either but coach just texted me and said we have to. For PR.

so they end up going and somehow by the luck of the draw Neil and Andrew end up sitting across from Bitty and Jack

bitty is immediately thrilled – another short blonde boy!!! They can Bond!!

as expected, Andrew straight-up ignores everyone except Neil

that leaves Neil to make awkward small talk with Bitty and Jack

Andrew stops ignoring everyone when Bitty mentions he’s a baker and he snuck pie in

Andrew actively participates in the conversation after having some of said pie

weirdly enough, they get along pretty well. Bitty reminds him a little of Renee

and neil and jack manage to navigate small talk easily enough, especially given how passionate they are about their respective sports.

they take turns info-dumping about hockey and exy

(side note: pry autistic!jack with a special interest in hockey and autistic!neil with a special interest in exy from my cold, dead, autistic hands)

they actually get into a good discussion about similarities and differences between the two sports, and decide to meet up later and write a comprehensive paper about it (what? they both went to college? they’ve written papers before, and this is way more interesting than some other papers they’ve written)

(over time it evolves into a series of papers analyzing the cultures and fan followings between the sports, how the rules and regulations differ, and the ways they’ve influenced each other)

so while the Nerds™ are writing their paper, Bitty teaches Andrew how to bake. Andrew teaches Bitty how to fight people way bigger than he is. it works well for both of them.

Shitty and Nicky get along famously. Lardo and Renee date briefly, probably. everyone else is pretty good friends. they hang out and get drunk occasionally

jack makes the mistake of mentioning that exy wouldn’t exist without hockey while kevin was in the room, but otherwise no giant social faux-pas are made

andrew and neil try to make it to jack’s games if they can, and bitty and jack return the favor

they’re spotted at each other’s games so often, the tabloids call them the sports world’s powercouple of powercouples

Neil laughs as he brings over his bowl with the spoon trapped inside of it and places it down in front of the judges.

“This is the first time you’ve managed to bring us something, so congratulations on that.” Paul says unable to hide the amusement in his expression as he stares down at the obvious failure of a dish.

“Thanks.” Neil nods, unbothered.

“So, what did you make for us today?” Prue asks with a kind smile that cannot hide her own amusement.

8/21/24 WIP Wednesday (Open) | Foxhole Bake AU (1/10)

“Well that would have been nice to know.” Neil says as if the cold cuts of butter would make sense in any context for baking.

Andrew merely looked at Neil before turning away from him and heading back to his station. Neil set the 2nd completely cemented bowl and spoon down on the far end of his workspace. It was immediately taken up by Noel who was looking to find anyone on the production staff who had the appropriate initials.

“Don’t you worry Amanda, if I can find a bloke with the last name P then you can absolutely keep your right to the throne.” Noel assures.

WIP Wednesday 9/11/24 (Closed) | Foxhole Bake AU

The judging goes about how one would expect when one had looked at the bakes. Libby’s coconut was a bit over toasted but was all around good. Liana’s blueberry lemon ricotta cheesecake bar got a Paul Hollywood handshake and she actually accepted it making it the first one of the season. Rupert’s raspberry jam was better than Kimura’s due to a truly criminal lack of salt in Kimura’s bake. Boris’ bars were delightfully boozy. Sabrina and Edith weren’t one hundred percent sure that they hadn’t switched curd at some point but both were kind of runny. Tiffany’s pecan praline blondie was a hit with Noel asking for a goodie bag of them for after the show. They remembered to judge Smith’s pumpkin cheesecake oatmeal cookie bars.

Then it was down to the final two judgments.

Andrew Minyard’s Banana Bars with Cream Cheese Icing and Neil Josten’s Rice Krispie bowl & spoon.

“Which should we judge first, Prue?” Paul asks.

“Oh I’ve always been the type to try and get the bad news out of the way.” she smiles.

“Fair enough, Neil.” Paul gestures for him to come up.

He puts the phone on speaker as it rings.

“Hello this is Kevin Day, how can I help you?”

“Kevin.”

“Andrew, where are you and-”

“I just won Star Baker.” Andrew says.

“Star Baker? Andrew what in the world-!?”

Andrew hit the call end button and handed it back to Noel who was looking at his phone like it was a now live bomb as his phone’s ringtone immediately started going off again indicating that someone was calling.

"Yeah, I got stitches. I'm fine." Neil reiterates stubbornly, "So the cops might call me?" he asks.

"Don't worry, we already told them that you're bad at responding and to leave a voicemail." Matt reassures.

"I don't know how that'll help since his voicemail message just says he doesn't check it. I think Andrew is the one that clears it for him." Kevin huffs.

10/30/24 WIP Wednesday (CLOSED) | Foxhole Bake AU

“Tiffany, your blondies were simply perfection. The wide variety of skills you showed in making each of the components showcase your talent and passion.” Paul explains as Tiffany looks around at all the other bakers in shock.

Then Tiffany's hands went to her mouth in obvious excitement that had been severely lacking from the previous episode's winner. "Oh my goodness! Thank you so much!" she exclaims as she wipes away a tear, turning to Liana who had been sat next to her, "I thought for sure you'd be winning," She says sincerely before Liana gave her a happy hug.

“What are you talking about, yours looked so good!” Liana insists before many of the other bakers gave Tiffany a congratulatory hug.

The camera cut away to Tiffany by herself.

“Quite literally.” Noel pats Neil on the back as Prue lets out a hearty chuckle at the host’s joke. “Well, at least you managed to present something this time!” Noel tries to reassure Neil who visibly is not in any need of reassurance.

“Perhaps next time it will even be something that someone could eat!” Sandi adds to the comforting session as Neil shrugs and takes his bowl back to his station. The camera does follow him as Andrew offers him a knife that did not look like it would be used for cooking. Neil accepted the knife and did start to work on chiseling at the puffed rice treat.

“Last, but certainly not least, Andrew. If you would?” Prue asks gesturing for the last baker to come up.

“No? Why would I put butter?” Neil asks, looking utterly and completely flummoxed by Andrew’s statement.

“So that it doesn’t seize up like this.” Andrew points at the forsaken spoon.

“Huh. I thought the marshmallows would do that.” Neil crosses his arms.

“You need butter.” Andrew closes his eyes looking pained.

Neil turns to look at Andrew looking smugger than anything. "Oh?" he asks.

Andrew looks pointedly ahead not giving Neil the satisfaction.

"The moisture, the chocolate flavor, it was all perfect. I don't know if I've ever had a cake like that, and unlike your previous entries... that was an amazing thing!" Paul says.

Paul turns to Andrew, "Your Strawberry cake was also near perfect Andrew but it was due to the slightest of margins that I have to say that Neil's cake was just perfection."
