There’s a Variety article I read today that summarizes how I felt about “Deadpool and Wolverine”. It’s a movie that was made by a genuine Marvel fan, from the fanservice to the disses.
The fanservice in this movie feels like it’s targeting the fans that are really into Marvel. Of course, you have yellow suit Wolverine. But there are references that casual fans probably wouldn’t understand, like Channing Tatum playing Gambit, the Wolverine crucifix, and Henry Cavill Wolverine.
The disses in the movie feel like they also came from a Marvel fan. When Wade says stuff like, “You joined at a low point” and “You’ll be playing this role till you’re 90”, those are the kind of jabs that the fanbase would make. Think of it like this. A hater would probably say something along the lines of superhero movies are the death of cinema, or that we should be watching A24 over anything Marvel related. You know, surface level criticisms. A fan would make digs that they could only do if they’ve been following the universe for a long period of time.
For example, I’m a fan, and I know I’ve made jokes in the past about the whitewashing in Doctor Strange. Or that Agents of SHIELD is better than anything in the main movies. Or that the Netflix Marvel shows were so poorly organized that they failed to properly build up to the Defenders miniseries. Or that the people behind the Fox X-Men movies don’t know how to make a good story without Wolverine. Those are critiques, but I could only make those critiques if I’m a genuine fan who consumes this material.
That’s why I like how Variety described Deadpool as if he was a Marvel fanboy. Because he is! He spends a great deal of the movie fanboying over Captain America and Thor, he views the Avengers as the gold standard of what it means to be a hero, he jokes at the expense of Fox and Disney, and he winks at the audience when he knows that the next scene is something that the Marvel fanbase would truly love. Again, the movie is a love letter to Marvel and the Marvel fanbase and it shows.

I don't care that deadpool and wolverine isn't the next citizen kane because it isn't trying to be. deadpool and wolverine is a movie that is purely wholeheartedly and unabashedly 100% fanservice that literally only got made because hugh jackman thought "I really want to see these two interact" and ryan reynolds said aw hell yes. the plot is secondary; if you go into the movie focusing on story beats and plot holes and camera angles you're not going to enjoy it very much - this was a movie made purely by fans for fans (and i love that hugh jackman and ryan reynolds clearly had as much fun making it as people did watching it!). in an mcu where every show and movie and plotline has to be tied up in some ridiculously epic "saving the world" grand scheme with stakes that they keep trying to make higher and higher each time it is so REFRESHING to see a movie that doesn't bother with all that. deadpool and wolverine came here to HAVE FUN. i'm so glad this movie got made

I do actually get insane when the actors adore the relationship between their characters. Like that’s * THE * best bonus we could ask for
I am, of course, talking about Cherik. It’s an art.
Like, we’re all aware the actors love their characters as much as their fans do. And although it’s years ago that all of it was happening, I think the release of Deadpool and Wolverine reignited some very strong flames and flashbacks in this fandom (that. end credits. montage.)
So yeah I just love it when
James and Michael talking about their characters literally raising a child together
James and Michael talk about their characters
Calling the relationship of Magneto and Proffesor X a “love story” because it is
Tumblr media
All the times they’re just flirting with each other
Tumblr media
(just one EARLY example)
Lines with double meanings and admitting it with no filter
Tumblr media
This iconic interview when they talked about fanfiction and fan art like YES GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Casually talking about a * Cherik * (emphasis on the ship name) spin-off when they just go “around the world looking for obscure fish”.
Tumblr media
And many more, because the chemistry between the actors (Ian and Patrick too obviously) never ceased to be there at the heart of it all.
It makes me wonder what other actors ( cough cough Tom and Owen) would say if they were allowed to, like if disney let them out of the basement for example hahah ☺️ (don’t worry I know they’re doing their best) In any case, I guess we’ll never know…?
What I know, at least, is that X-men as movies and an era are laudable thank you very much

I have a headcanon that there is an AU where Henry Fox is the Scarlet Witch.
The story being that Henry is an accomplished magic user, and having worked, and trained (and fell in love) with Alex—who is that universe’s Sorcerer Supreme—he learned about the Darkhold.
After the death of his father, Arthur Fox, he felt like a part of himself was gone forever. However with the Darkhold, he can use dark magic to find another universe where he can speak to his father again.
Anyways, i’m obsessed with the MCU, and love Scarlet Witch in particular, and I have a hyperfixation with Taylor Zakhar Perez and grey streaks in his hair like Dr. Strange.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024)
Tumblr media
Deadpool finally joined the MCU with an "R-rated" experience. The film balances humor and action well. The laughs you get are truly underrated. Ryan Reynolds' steadfast commitment and passion for the role turn this film into a rollercoaster ride.
Tumblr media
Deadpool's violence and humor remain unchanged; with more action packed, more 'F' words, funnier jokes, and more bloodshed especially when it comes to his katanas and guns. Hugh Jackman, who plays Wolverine, portrays this version of Wolverine in a sorrowful and calm manner, but his character changes to become more violent in a blip when using his claws.
Tumblr media
The villain, Emma Corrin as Cassandra Nova, delivers her character with a menacing ways. Her character and abilities really gave me goosebumps on the screen; kudos to the VFX artists for making her even scarier with when it comes to using her powers.
Tumblr media
The bonding relationship between Deadpool and Wolverine is fantastic. I really liked how the film emphasizes both Wade and Logan as broken characters, with on a path to redemption. It’s an exciting journey that focuses on character, at the same time weaves in the characters' emotions which makes it a heartfelt experience
Tumblr media
The end credits will keep you entertained. This is the first time I couldn’t finish my popcorn because I was laughing so hard, and the whole cinema cheered for some of the amazing scenes and cameos.

And just for future reference, I mean this entirely as a joke. *NSYNC, no offense at all.
