#Forget Me Knot

Friendly reminder that I am serializing a queer Japanese romantasy on my Patreon that updates weekly, and you can read the first part of it for free here.

It's a story about the Red String of Fate myth in which a man who fails his first soulmate is now cursed to spend eternity untangling people's red strings and helping them find their happily ever afters, but when he meets an enticing new stranger, he'll have to make peace with his past if he wants a chance at his own. It's set in a [mostly] queernormative, Heian Japan-inspired world, has a genderqueer love interest, and starts a little something like this:

Thick drops of rain splashed the tatami floor as he slid the door closed behind him, but with the water came a wave of hope that the smell of booze, sweat, and shame had been washed away with the precipitation.

 That was, until he turned to the hallway to find Yurina waiting, a dry kimono slung over her arm as she held it out to him. Like a peace offering. Like a silent plea to pretend he’d been anywhere else.

 But they both knew where Toa had been. It was the same thing every week. He’d go to drink with some friends, stagger out with someone beautiful, and spend a night or two in their bed before stumbling home late enough that he’d hoped—always hoped—that Yurina would be asleep. But she never was. She was always standing there, waiting with another peace offering that was flimsier than the excuses he’d throw out for where he’d been.

10. Forget Me Knot.

I appreciate that this episode really ramps up how zany Hatter and Hare are. Hatter invents his own logic and Hare is proficient at “yes, and”ing him.

I ended up struggling with rendering both pictures this week. I had good ideas for both of them but when I got to the coloring process I really had to work for it. This one took a lot of futzing and I feel like it shows. The timestamps show that I put in over 6 hours on this one and jeeze... I think I've had an off-week.

Maybe by the end of this I'll learn how to draw a half-decent background. ^^;

Also, I forgot to mention that you can hear the “Noggin Knockin Glinger” music coming from Brian’s room at the beginning of Through the Looking Glasses.

Another thing worth noting that I’ve just picked up on. In the still I’ve just found, Diana is definitely kissing him on the cheek and her hand is lower down on his tie. But in the final shot she is far closer to his mouth. In fact, it looks like they are kissing each other very gently on the edges of each others lips. Ugh, as if this scene didn’t break me enough already...
