museums! a lot have online collections to look at: the met is my go to a lot of the time, and the worcester art museum has the higgins armory collection currently. movies, shows, comics, if they have a costume aesthetic I really enjoy. dover publication has a couple of books collecting medieval fashion over the centuries I like to flip through.

nc wyeth's medieval illustrations, arthur rackham, and john william waterhouse too. medieval tapestries and manuscripts. 13th-16th italian fashion & art. lately I've been playing more with 4th-~11th century roman/byzantine influences! renfaire/medieval reeactment photos are a great visual resource too.

claire hummel's historical fashion resource doc is an excellent starting point and resource, additionally this collection of illustrators.

Imagine if you were a gay or bi man who tried a certain firefighter show because of all the attention it was getting for one of its mains having a later in life bi awakening.....and between seasons you ventured into its fandom in search of material to tide you over til the next one. And you're greeted by a deluge of posts and fics that are just cheerfully homophobic towards one half of the newly out bi character's canon relationship on the basis of 'well he's not the RIGHT gay guy' and pushing the idea that actually its fine to cheat on him because Reasons and he's sexually predacious based on......behind the scenes implications people have divined like they're reading fucking tea leaves.

But don't get it twisted....this fandom, like all fandoms, really cares about representation!

Sorry not sorry, but we really need to kill this idea that fandoms are welcoming and inviting and inherently progressive when they're frequently insular and reductive as fuck. Every single fandom I've been in has had major trends of people doubling down on their own headcanons and fanon interpretations of the characters and willfully enacting trends aimed at running off people who like the 'wrong' characters (usually characters marginalized along one or multiple axes), like the characters in the 'wrong ways' or other bullshit.

Scott is a Bad Friend fics overtaking Teen Wolf fandom was not incidental, it was a FEATURE of the fandom, because the vast majority of that fandom did not want to share its space with anyone who had the nerve to like its main character. Survivors complaining about or criticizing the prevalance of rape fics in a certain fandom has in my experience always led to a reactionary UPTICK in those fics, with gems like 'this character can, will, must be raped' in the tags making it crystal clear that some of these fics exist because how fucking DARE anyone try and push forth a narrative not agreed upon by Fandom Main.

I could cite examples for so many other fandoms, with the commonalities always being that vast majorities in these fandoms are explicitly reacting defensively to being asked to be more mindful of fandom trends revolving around or exacerbating racism, homophobia, transphobia, rape or abuse apologia, ableism, etc....

With the most prolific fucking rallying cry across countless fandoms being "No the fuck we will NOT be doing that," because lolololol.....

Fandom is an inherently progressive space, didn't you hear?

Wow, that's a whole other repost to the one I thought it was going to be, lol. It's been reposted to TikTok once before, and I'm also not surprised this person got it from Reddit, where I doubt I was credited either.

At the end of the day I appreciate the heads up but there's nothing I can really do about it. The most helpful thing anyone can do is to leave comments on the reposts to provide credit,* because if artists ever try and comment then we pretty invariably get attacked. Don't be mean or aggressive, that just builds their animosity towards the artists, but I do think people respond positively to outside pressure to do the right thing 🤷

*Remember to make sure there's enough context - eg. something like "art by @ landegart on Twitter" is more searchable/useful than "artist is Landeg" to someone on TikTok who has no idea who I am haha

In the past I’ve talked about situations where I saw myself as a victim and blamed the people who rejected me because of my own behavior. In the present we’re doing something different.

This is a user named Ghost to the Future. Throughout the post I will be referring to him as Alex.

Since August of 2023, Alex and I have been friends as we shared a lot of Intergang ideas and later I would eventually help him overcome his insecurities and irl issues… or so I thought. Since Valentine’s Day, I stuck by him and tried to help him on a journey of improvement as he confessed to me that he was jealous of me talking to people that I’ve known for 2 years now because he wanted me all to himself when he needed to vent. I’ve tried multiple things such as exercises where he couldn’t DM me, cracked down on limiting the venting and most of all, trying to get him a therapist. I even talked to my own therapist and school about how I can get him the help he needed. It wasn’t just “get him a therapist so he could stop venting to someone who wasn’t qualified to handle it,” he actively hurt and pushed away my friends when they tried to help him themselves. For the sake of their privacy I will be censoring the names of my friends.

But eventually he told me that he’d get a therapist and during those weeks he told me about talking to him and even shared me advice that the therapist gave him and I thought we were on the right track. Then on March 26th, 2024, he confessed that he lied about it.

He admitted to lying about it and told everyone that he was toxic and manipulative. Minutes after this I blocked him and told him that someday we’d be able to talk again. Hopefully we could move on.

Then the day after he started spamming my email after I refunded him for a commission I never got to. He told me that he was getting help but he also asked me to unblock him and told me that I was the only person he hurt. We’ll be getting back to that in a bit. Make of these what you will.

To add insult to injury, he started stalking my Tumblr yesterday when he commented on one of my posts after I blocked him on Discord.

We’ll get back to the stalker part at the end because it is truly fucked but for now let’s tear into how he’s hurt my friends! Not all of this will be complimented by screenshots but I’ve talked with people and can confirm that all of this has happened, if you want evidence of it I’ll see what I can do.

He has constantly pushed my friends away after they have tried helping him out.

He has lied about watching certain media multiple times, my friends managed to prove this has he lied about watching a show that didn’t even air yet. Most of the time he fails to elaborate on why he loves a piece of art if he hasn’t experienced it or he’ll just sheep other people.

Back in December he complained to me about two of my friends making fun of him only to find out that they were just joking with each other and Alex made a big deal out of nothing.

After trying to set boundaries Alex kept on using the excuse that “we’re equals.”

He harassed one of my friends in DMs for having a Hazbin Hotel pfp at the time.

He makes fun of other people and their interests yet infamously can’t take any jokes towards him at all.

He tried instigating hate in me against my friends when they watched MAWS and didn’t like it.

Has urged and pushed people to do sexual RPs in the past even when they were uncomfortable.

He said the N word in my friend group, he is white btw. And when one of my friends talked to him about this Alex only constantly apologized and made excuses for why he said it. I have the screenshot of this, I won’t be sharing it in this post so I won’t violate any policies.

He’s made racist and misogynistic remarks towards people in his friend groups.

Has sexualized people who are younger than him.

This is only scratching the surface of what he’s done to people online as apparently he has a history of changing his username after being rejected from fandoms, one of which included the Owl House and he used it as a crutch to excuse a lot of his behavior. Online, he’s dangerous and a chameleon but learning about his irl activity he’s even worse. I won’t go too in depth there but needless to say he insults his friends, is violent towards other kids in his school and has caused a lot of toxic relationships.

And ultimately we get to why I decided to make this post. I told Alex’s friend (who is one of the nicest people I’ve met btw) that if Alex contacted me again then I would call him out. And since yesterday, Alex has not contacted me again… but he tried to. How? By using his friend’s email to message me. The attempt failed but I was alerted of this and furious. Originally I said that I think Alex can improve but he’ll have to do it without me. Now he’s killed his chances. Everything I covered here only scratches the surface of what he’s pulled but in short: cut contact with him for your own safety. If he tries joining more fandoms under this name or a new name, use this post for reference and stop him before he can do more damage. Right now, Alex is a toxic and manipulative person and shouldn’t be in a lot of these public spaces especially when he’s admitted that he is DANGEROUS. Currently his main fandom is My Adventures with Superman so I will be tagging that to get the word out. Please reblog as much as you can to get the word out and let people know about this individual before he gets to them as well. If you’re reading this Alex, you’ve hurt me and too many people for me to just let this slide and if you try contacting me and my friends again, hope you enjoy whatever stupid prizes you get in the future.

HEADCANONS - WHO IS G.ALLAGHER?

this should go without saying, but just in case: SPOILERS FOR 2.2 STORY AHEAD. this will be tagged but not under a cut, so proceed with caution if you're not caught up yet.

so, since 2.2 refuted one of my favourite theories for g.allagher's identity, much to my disappointment, i've opted to keep my hcs as is and make my portrayal CANON DIVERGENT. this is also in part because i've already developed (or started developing) certain dynamics that rely on him following this particular identity and i don't want to throw that out / limit it to an AU verse, especially given interactions with "g.allagher" are now pretty restricted for anything post 2.2.

MINOR CANON COMPLIANCE

there are certain aspects i will keep, of course. namely, that he is a pathstrider of the enigmata, and that "g.allagher" is a created form specifically designed for p.enacony. he does deliberately "borrow" traits from the Family members as s.unday describes to create this image.

and, to an extent, "g.allagher" as we know him has ceased to exist following the events of the story. however, a different form was created in its place that shares some of the traits of the previous one - a new g.allagher, if you will.

THE TRUE "G.ALLAGHER"

prior to 2.2, i ascribed to the theory that g.allagher was a potential "human form" for the memory zone meme Death, that he was Death itself (saying he was Thirteen played a lot into this, obviously) - and i took this and ran wild with it. and, so:

he does not control Something Unto Death/Dormancy. he is Something Unto Death/Dormancy.

"g.allagher" does not have a singular true form - at least, not one that is known or has ever been seen. instead, he creates various 'characters' that he can shift between at will. for p.enacony, these were the human guise of g.allagher and the memetic entity itself. whilst in either of these forms, he can also alter individual aspects of his appearance at will - though these are usually temporary and used as a means of unsettling or intimidating enemies.

quick note: this portrayal of g.allagher will occasionally involve minor descriptions of body horror for this reason. i can and will leave these out for people who are uncomfortable with that, so if that applies to you, please let me know during discussion/plotting prior to interactions! these descriptions will never be graphic/too horrific, but i still don't want to make anyone uncomfortable unknowingly.

the primary form is the memetic entity, and as such, there is a certain bleed through into the human 'g.allagher'. these include the elements of g.allagher's attacks and the glow that shines through his scars and forms his claws. there's also occasionally an unsettling presence about him that certain others can pick up on, particularly those who are also possibly not quite human.

despite being the same entity, he is able to split himself into multiple forms at once. as such, both the human guise of 'g.allagher' and the memetic form 'dormancy' are able to be encountered separately - this is mostly to further conceal the truth, avoiding an observant eye coming to the realisation that they are never seen together, despite dormancy being 'controlled' by g.allagher. when separated like this, all forms share senses and can even 'take over' certain senses of another form - for example, g.allagher could 'take over' dormancy's vision to see through its eyes.

KEY INFORMATION

his role in the story is unchanged. his involvement with the w.atchmaker remains the same, etc. he's still a history fictionologist. given there's so little information available for this faction, i don't see a reason to tweak this (yet).

very few people know he and the memetic entity are the same. canon characters that could fall into this category include m.isha (obviously), sunday, robin, and s.amfly. for sunday and robin, this will largely be post-story (as in, after he fckn stabs them-). s,amfly i would accept prior knowledge of due to script reasons. as an additional note, i hc that siobhan knows something is weird about g.allagher (as one of the few who seems to know him & interacts with him in a way that implies a history between them - and as someone who regularly deals with & has experience with inhuman creatures) but she simply doesn't ask questions.

g.allagher and "dormancy" can be encountered as separate entities at the same time, and share senses. to avoid the risk of questions, g.allagher makes a point to be seen with "dormancy" on occasion.

g.allagher and "dormancy" have different personalities - g.allagher has been carefully crafted a certain way to fit the role he needs to play. when g.allagher breaks this character, that is "dormancy" bleeding through. g.allagher's personality is a blend of borrowed traits from the Family and hints, perhaps, of the fictionologist who created him...

post-2.2 story, "g.allagher" is recreated but with altered traits from the original. the new form is in a similar age range appearance-wise, has a similar colouring (though his hair is longer), and also has visible scarring though the scars themselves are different.

he can still be found around p.enacony in both forms, though the human g.allagher (2.0) is more likely to be found in reality whilst the memetic entity remains in the dreamscape.
