Fish Wishes!
(Images aren’t mine, snatched from google)
Ok so I’ve thought about this for awhile and I’ve seen a couple of these guys in fish stores and done the research to figure out what’s going to be happiest in my 15G nano tank.
Honey Gourami as the centrepiece fish
When I see these guys iRL, they’re always inquisitive, swimming right up to things and then giving them a little pat with their feelers. They’re cute and interesting to watch. Generally considered a peaceful community fish but Reddit has been full of stories of them bullying their own kind until they die :< As they’re happy solo, I think I can give them a stress free life being the centrepiece fish of the tank with a few easygoing nano fish friends.
Or Sparkling Gourami as the centrepiece?
I love the idea of Sparklers. I fell in love with the YouTube series from Foo the Flowerhorn where they set up a tank with sparklers and amanos. In reality I think it’s very risky for the amanos; I’ve had LFS guys and Reddit posts give me anecdotes about the sparklers eating shrimp or killing them off slowly by beating them into hiding. Let’s be honest, I do this hobby to relax. I’m not going to have violence in my tank! Such a shame as they’re so pretty. The image of these guys with their turquoise scales and a backdrop of a bunch of baby blue jelly shrimps would be soo cool but I know there would be suffering so it would never be worth it.
Nano fish
Celestial Pearl Danios
Excuse the shitty iPhone vid. Sometimes you just have to go to see some fish iRL to figure if you’re really going to love them.
I’ll tell you what, every time I see these guys in real life they make my heart flutter with how stinking cute they are. They have beautiful colours and are so small. The ones I’ve seen in store have been about 0.8” in length.
Chilli rasbora
These are another species that always catch my attention in person. Their little faces and big eyes are too cute to handle and their body shape looks like a miniature red shark. They’re also micro predators so they would have a great time gobbling up the creatures and loose eggs in the tank. Thankfully their mouths are too small to do any damage to shrimps!
Extras;
When I think of all the gross lil non-fish creatures I would enjoy in a tank, my mind always gravitates to cherry shrimp or amanos. With amanos I think i’d like the peace of mind to rely on these lil dudes to clean up the nastier hairier algae if it turns up.
However, a hoard of cherries swarming the tank and filling it with bright colours would also be so fun! Blue jellies are the cutest but bright orange ones look like you’ve got a tank full of pre cooked shrimp or living cheetos.
Anyways, that’s my fish wishes! Im not going to get every one of these fish, just a centrepiece fish, some skrimps if compatible and a small shoal of nano fish.
Next weekend I might go to the LFS and see what I can find, I’m so excited!

I ordered a book about planted aquariums and stuff by the microbiologist Diana Walstad ("Ecology of the Planted Aquarium") and i am so incredibly excited because i want to make a small filter free aquarium in the future using her methods.
Foo the Flowerhorn on Youtube also made a bunch of those which is where i got that idea. (A Playlist full of them can be found here)
The only issue being that i am moving in december and it probably won't be worth it to set up a tank now only to take it down again for my move, so it'll have to wait until i get to my new apartment :(
(I just know I want shrimp and loads of vegetation, not even necessarily fish)

How to Maintain a 2 Feet Aquarium & Bigger Fish Tanks?
Owning bigger aquariums is a huge responsibility. You might get thrilled and purchase large fish tanks for sale to harvest flowerhorn or discus fish that need bigger space to grow and most importantly to increase their vibrant colors. However, these spacious 5-10 ft aquariums require ample maintenance which is a costly affair.
If you are eager for DIY maintenance just like you do with your 2 feet aquarium, then you should have ample expertise in doing so without causing any harm to your fish or the tank itself.
Get the cleaning gears and proper apparatus you need for taking the existing fish out safely from the tank and keep your school of red Arowana in a different tank temporarily equipped with an air filter and air pump to receive the oxygen supply in their temporary homes.
However, if you’re busy and lack a proper idea for cleaning the 2 feet aquarium or even a larger one, installed with the latest fittings including the Kintons aquarium light, submersible pumps, air filters, etc., then hiring an expert for fish tank cleaning will save you from bigger damages.
Let the experts arrive at your address and safely clean the bigger fish tanks whether kept on a furniture or wall set. The experts are equally talented in maintaining the fish ponds as well. However, if you find the job interesting and want to DIY, keep following the steps and make a video or take note to learn from it.

How to Take Care of Your Flowerhorn Fish?
Are you a proud owner of a school of flowerhorn fish looking forward to knowing some additional tips to take proper care of the gorgeous marine life? Then here you can get a glimpse of what more you can do despite maintaining the flowerhorn tank for the cichlid family!
Flowerhorn are gorgeous fish belonging to the cichlid community. This breed was first found in Malaysia and Taiwan and swiftly became a popular aquarium fish for its flamboyant colors at any aquarium shop Malaysia and other countries across the globe. However, owners have to take proper care of the flowerhorn fish and have to offer them a perfect environment to keep them happy and healthy. It helps them to grow in size and increase their color naturally.
Here are some tips to take care of your flowerhorn fish—
Water quality
Use anti-chlorine water in the fish tank. Maintaining the water quality of the fish is necessary for their growth and sustenance.
Despite giving your flowerhorn live food such as worms and medicines, allow them a natural and clean environment so that they can start increasing the gorgeous colors they are famous for. Hire an aquarium cleaner to maintain the fish tank.
Buy a bigger tank for flowerhorn
Similar to a discus tank, you have to arrange a bigger fish tank containing around 75 gallons water for the best maintenance of flowerhorn fish.
Create a natural ambiance
Instead of using artificial ways of manipulating the fish to grow its flamboyance, give it a 100% natural environment such as by installing real water plants, real gravels, and fish-friendly fresh water to remain happy and increase the color naturally.

Hey guys, meet Bulbous Biff.
This 𝔹𝕌𝕃𝔹𝕆𝕌𝕊 𝔹𝕆𝕐 is an Orange Flowerhorn Cichlid, and a beautiful specimen at that.
He's about a foot long, seven inches tall, and 2lbs (1kg for my followers in the upside-down.)
Fish like Biff need a minimum of 75 gallons, and some aquarists argue that they need twice that for a comfortable life. 150 gallons for a big boy like this.
I found Biff in a 30 gallon tank.
He could barely turn around, and could swim the length of it in one lazy swish of his tail. Imagine growing up in a box, at first you can explore and see the world of your box with ease, you can get into all the corners, hide from prying eyes, and eat without knocking into anything.
As time goes on the walls get smaller and smaller, the room stays the same but you grow into an adult. Now those corners are impossible to explore, you can't hide and have to change out in the open, and in order to eat you have to fold yourself into strange shapes to keep from knocking into walls.
This is why I rescue fish and advocate for people to do proper research before buying any aquarium, fish like Biff suffer when people don't take time to research what the fish needs to be comfortable.
But Biff's battle is doubly troubling. Smaller tanks require more maintenance because of ecological pileup. Biff produces a lot of waste, which has to be broken down by bacteria in the filters, the filters can't support enough bacteria, and so the poo just piles up, slowly disintegrating in the water around him.
This causes a massive chemical imbalance, which he gets used to.
When he's returned to healthy water conditions, his organs will be unable to function, and he will die.
So we have to acclimate him slowly.
Over the course of the next six hours I'll be slowly changing his water out until we reach a point where the shock of being placed in his new home won't be fatal, then I will move him over to his new 150 gallon tank with my oscars. He should be a good fit.
I'll be posting updates as things go on, it's going to be a process but we're going to get there in the end.
If you want to support my rescue work, please buy me coffee at buymeacoffee.com/UglyIvan
Currently I'm working on getting a vehicle for my buisness, and I'd absolutely love any support you guys can offer. I've zeroed in on a little SUV that I'm getting for about $300.
Your coffee donations also help me buy food, fuel, and tanks for fish.
But remember, you don't have to give me money to support me. Sharing this post is another wonderful way to show your support.
Thank you guys for your support, I always love reading your comments. I'll see you later tonight.

Let me share with you all sordid tale of overprotective and homicidal fishes.
When I was younger my dad had three cichlids. A Flowerhorn (male), a Convict (male), and a Jewel (female) in a big tank in his office.
Now the Flowerhorn was bigger than the other two (about 1.5 times their size), and a little antisocial, but that didn't matter much to the Jewel and the Convict, as they fell in love, and soon there were many little eyeballs in the tank.
The Jewel and Convict would protect their babies and keep them in a little school, and whenever one would swim out of the cloud of babies one of the parents would catch it in their mouths and spit it back out into the cloud.
The Flowerhorn on the other hand, really wanted to eat the delicious delicious babies, and would go after any that escaped the cloud.
One morning my dad got in to work, and there was no cloud of babies. The Flowerhorn had managed to eat them all. Unfortunately for him he also paid for his meal with his life, and had been found dead.
The Convict was also dead, and the Jewel passed later that day (or maybe it was the other way around, this was more than a decade ago) but either way, cichlids can be AMAZING parents and will fight to the death for their babies. Overprotective fishes.
what are some animals that are such great parents that they're really aggressive towards people/other animals?
There's loads of animals that are like that! The ones we tend to think of most often are mammals, especially ones like big cats, canines, elephants, buffalo, rhinos etc.
Outside of the class Mammalia, crocodilians are known to take very good care of their young-- both males and females will guard their nest and hatchlings ferociously. Other reptiles that guard their young include pit vipers, pythons, and king cobras-- though I wouldn't say these snakes are more aggressive, just more likely to stand their ground against an approaching threat.
In addition, the males in many frog and fish species are known to aggressively guard their territory after a female has laid her eggs, though their aggression is a product of trying to prevent other males of the same species from sneaking in and mating with the female. This often leads to a phenomenon where some males disguise themselves as females to sneak past the dominant male; cuttlefish are an excellent example of this!
Many birds are also territorial regarding their nests, and the more social ones will flock together and dive-bomb potential predators; Australian magpies are a particularly well-known example, but masked lapwings are even worse because their wings have claws and unlike magpies they're not afraid to draw blood.
Lastly, among the arthropods, there are several species of spider that guard their egg sacs until they hatch. Earwigs will also guard their eggs, and use their pincers (aka cerci) to defend against predators. Female scorpions will carry their young on their back until the babies develop functioning venom glands.
In short, aggressive parental care isn't a phenomenon just restricted to mammals-- though you are more likely to notice an angry Asian forest buffalo mom charging at you than you are an earwig flexing her pincers as a warning to stay away.
