“☘ You guys should come and see this statue and visit MJ right in the middle, I mean, right in the heartland of the U.S. He's so dazzling with his smile!
💐 Okay, all of you guys - please sit down because this is going to concern the MJ's smiling bronze sculpture at the Overland Park Arboretum about 45 minutes of a drive from my house and about a 20-minute drive from my work as I work in Overland Park, Kansas too.
LOCATION : 🌟Overland Park Arboretum Botanical Gardens, at 8909 W 179th Street, Overland Park, Kansas, U.S.
He was installed in November of 2011 & executed by a Chinese sculptor Yu Zenghkang and is a second copy of the original. Bronze life-size marvel but that's not even the greatest overall news as the entire story matters too. He's been there for a decade but not heavily publicized because our states are highly conservative.
Whenever I received the news from Miss Jeannette Simpson (thank you, dear as I did not know plus it very well could have been removed) to check into this sculpture's existence, I did give them a call instantly as soon as I could locate the number. Now, it's getting really strange and bizarre, yet, a little comical too.
An elderly lady picks up the phone and even though her voice was extremely stern and she was, obviously, not too thrilled about discussing Michael but still, tolerant of his presence, she spoke too quietly. I asked her to introduce herself, so I could properly address her. You guys can call that place yourself (913-685-3604) & check on her name if you do not believe me but it is true as God is my witness:
🦋 "Oh, my name is Janet, how are you today and how can I help you?"
🦋 My jaw suddenly dropped to the floor, all the way. Like it happens in Tom & Jerry.
So, the summary here is that I call the botanical gardens & the lady who picked up the phone very quick was named none other than Janet... Telling me that Michael was there if I wished to see him. Really... 😁 Wow. The stars must have aligned.
I did not know how to react, so I remained speechless and then, I hysterically laughed outloud at the same time because the situation was so unique. Unexpected - all of it. It felt so grand, yet, odd at the same time, the match and I hardly get lucky in anything.
☆ Janet telling me that Michael was here if I wanted to visit...🤔 ☆
I couldn't focus on that one anymore & asked for the details of their hours. Fairly easygoing and convenient. The rest of the info is available in my earlier post on my FB page and now, the photos I pulled from various Kansas City sources.
He is The Smiling Michael and that's what matters the most to me, life-size too. Standing atop of a peaceful green wooded area with bushy evergreens around. Perfect.🌿🌿🌿🌿🍀”

24, 46 for growing teeth, and 49 😚
thanks for the asks though I feel like you maybe already know the answer to 24 😏
24. how I feel about writing smutty scenes: GREAT lol. for me, sex scenes are most interesting (and hottest) when they’re communicating something about the characters’ relationship to–well, anything really: their body, their identity, their desires, their fears, their shame, their feelings about intimacy. I don’t mean I think sex is only interesting when it’s really “about something else”–I mean that sex, in all its messiness and physicality and unexpected turns and all its potential for pleasure and escape, can be one way that some people express themselves and discover things about themselves and connect with other people and I love writing that. that doesn’t mean I never start a scene with the intention to just, say, write some good fun rimming. it’s just that the rimming usually ends up saying something about the character’s desire to be truly seen despite their deep-seated insecurities about their own self-worth. or whatever.
46. what would happen in a sequel to “growing teeth”: hmmmmmm. fleur gets her nose pierced, as promised, and then she and tonks spontaneously take a trip to france and have covert sex in the public garden where fleur was photographed at age eight for her first and last childhood modeling job and then they meet fleur’s mom. her mom HATES fleur’s haircut but is so charmed by tonks that she makes them a cake anyway.
49. first fic I read: this was actually a marauders fic!! I was in high school and my friend was writing a long fic that covered their entire seven years at hogwarts. she never finished and it never got shippy and mostly I just remember them having a snowball fight. then I didn’t read fic again till 2011 when I discovered the classic Victorian Holmes/Watson fics by Katie Forsythe which are, surprise, about Sherlock Holmes and John Watson being angsty and very much in love.

40th Folk Festival spotlights rich, diverse culture of Louisiana
Tumblr media
By Dr. Shane Rasmussen
Photos by Chris Reich, NSU Photo Services
NATCHITOCHES – The audience at the 40th annual Natchitoches-Northwestern State University Folk Festival held on July 26-27 was entertained and educated about the rich and diverse cultural offerings of the state. The Festival featured traditional Louisiana foods, Kidfest activities, music, traditional crafts, narrative sessions, musical informances, and cultural exhibits. This year’s Festival theme “Vive la Louisiane!” was a great success, with a very happy audience.
The Festival opened with a rousing dance, beginning with Cajun dance lessons, followed by Gal Holiday and the Honky Tonk Revue, and the night closed out with Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band. Side stage performances included Natchitoches gospel group Joyful Sounds, 50 Man Machine, which includes NSU faculty Paul Forsyth, Collier Hyams, and Oliver Molina, and an open jam with Max & Marcy, Ed Huey, and Cane Mutiny.
Saturday’s events included performances in Prather Coliseum by 50 Man Machine, Creole la la with Goldman Thibodeaux and the Lawtell Playboys, the Louisiane Vintage Dancers, Brandy Roberts, the Rayo Brothers, Tab Benoit, Jamie Berzas & the Cajun Tradition Band, the Stewart Family and Friends Bluegrass Band, line dance lessons by the Cajun French Music Association Dance Troupe, the Canneci N’de Band of Lipan Apache, zydeco dance lessons by Avila Kahey, Wayne & Same Ol’ 2 Step, Hardrick Rivers and the Rivers Revue Band, Celtic Music with the Kitchen Session of Baton Rouge and a jam session with Max and Marcy.
In addition to stage performances there were narrative sessions and music informances, including conversations about American songwriting, culture & costumes of 19th century Louisiana, Tab Benoit’s The Voice of the Wetlands Fondoution, and the musical journey of Vanessa Niemann (aka Gal Holiday). Also featured was a music informance by Tab Benoit. Outdoor activities included demonstrations by the Central Louisiana Dutch Oven Cookers, the Red River Smiths, the Southern Stock Dog Association, and Wash Day, presented by the West Baton Rouge Museum. This year the Festival continued a series of free workshops for Festival attendees. Festival goers attended a Cajun accordion workshop by Jamie Berzas and Bruce Daigrepont.
The annual Louisiana State Fiddle Championship was also held on Saturday in the Magale Recital Hall as part of the Festival. Fiddle Championship judges included Steve Birdwell, Steve Harper, Henry Hemple, and Clancey Stewart. The new Louisiana Grand Champion is Ron Yule of DeRidder. Second place winner was Joe Suchanek of Merryville, with Owen Meche of Arnauldville placing third. Meche also took first place in the 21 and under championship division.
Suchanek took first in the 60 and up championship division, with Yule coming in second, Birgit Murphy of Opelousas in third, Mark Young of Balise in fourth, Wilfred Luttrell of DeRidder in fifth, and Ron Pace of Alexandria in sixth. Luttrell and Yule also took first place in the twin fiddles competition.
As the new Louisiana State Fiddle champion, Yule also performed on the main stage in Prather Coliseum. Dr. Lisa Abney managed the fiddle championship. Dr. Susan Roach from Louisiana Tech University emceed the championship.
Four musicians and a renowned filé maker were inducted into the Louisiana Folklife Center’s Hall of Master Folk Artists. Inductees included Louisiana Music Hall of Famer Tab Benoit, who also served as honorary Festival Chair, Cajun musicians Jamie Berzas and Bruce Daigrepont, filé maker John Oswald Colson, and country singer Vanessa Niemann.
Dr. Shane Rasmussen, director of the Louisiana Folklife Center, led the induction ceremony, assisted by State Representative Kenny Cox and Dustin Fuqua, Chief of Resource Management at Cane River Creole National Historical Park. In addition, the honorary award of Folklife Angel was given to long-time Festival crew chief James Christopher Callahan, an NSU alumnus.
In addition to 4 book signings and 8 exhibits by such groups as state parks and archives, over 70 craftspeople displayed their traditional work on Saturday. These craftspeople demonstrated and discussed their work with the Festival patrons. Craftspeople displayed accordion making, beadwork, baskets, Czech Pysanky eggs, filé making, flintknapping, folk art, knives, music instruments, quilting, pottery, spinning & weaving, tatting, walking sticks, whittling and needlework, wood carving, and more. 8 food vendors provided a cornucopia of traditional Louisiana foods to the Festival audience.

Liveblogging FE15 - Acts 1 and 2
Under a cut for spoilers.
I’m not even sure to begin with how much I’m enjoying this game so far. I know the maligned desert maps are still to come and apparently a bunch of other maps get reused later, but dull map design feels like a minor gripe as far as I’m concerned. This game presents itself extremely well, and I’m liking all of its weird quirks from the RPG elements to the change in story structure (so much more flexible when it doesn’t have to be divided into discrete chapters) to the gameplay oddities. I’m not grinding very much, but just enough to have everyone on more or less the same level. If I decide to tackle Hard mode at a later point the easy access to grinding will definitely be appreciated. Top marks for the story presentation though - so much better than the Archanea remakes, especially since I imagine that Gaiden had just about as little to work with in terms of plot expansion as FE1 or 3.
I went with the “canon” classes for the male villagers - I’ll vary them up on later playthroughs - but I made Faye a cleric where she’s surprisingly strong, even offensively. I know clerics aren’t really combat units, but I’m just so happy to have both pseudo-Catholicism and light magic back in FE that I don’t really care. Yay!
Dungeons are pretty mediocre, but they’re a change of pace at least. From what I read online they most closely compare to the Monster Hunter series, but as I’ve never played any of those I’m stuck comparing them to Zelda. Needless to say FE15 falls very short by that metric, but they’re still serviceable. I just wish the camera weren’t so finicky.
My opinions on the sexuality of assorted characters are mostly unchanged: Forsyth and Python pretty much exist for each other, Lukas has his hopeless little crush on Clive, Mycen is still the unexpected gay (extra points for it being treated as a big reveal that he has no biological family), and Leon is fabulous without being overbearing. Per Valbar and co’s recruitment scene I’m increasingly convinced that Valbar doesn’t know about Leon’s crush on him until (possibly) their A support. He casually conflates Leon’s dedication to him with Kamui being a literal mercenary, so either Leon is incredibly deluded about how sensitive his man is or Valbar is just that oblivious.
Alm is like Ike if he were straight but not thoroughly obnoxious. The way he copes with classist insults is much smoother than Monsieur Yells-At-Theocratic-Heads-Of-State-In-Public. Of course there’s a ton of dramatic irony whenever anyone talks down to Alm as a supposed commoner, but that’ll be a big point later I imagine. The straight thing is regrettable...and I mean that seriously, because the guy really does never shut up about Celica. I agree with Agoddamn that there are parallels between Faye’s feelings for Alm and Alm’s for Celica, except Faye is the only one of the two who’s made to look crazy and hopeless. Indeed, Alm’s apparent endgame for him and Celica before the two of them have their big falling out is to return to Ram Village with her, so it’s that same theme of stagnation or trying to recapture the past that Faye is angling for. But, you know, it kind of sucks to be a woman in Valentia, or any FE setting before the GBA era for that matter.
Fernard does Peri’s backstory right - who’d have seen that ever happening?
Following up on my theory that the Brand of Mila is modeled after the fleur-de-lis (and the corollary that her faith seems to take cues from Marian devotions), I note that the Brand of Duma is a cross. While I’m not entirely sure that the Japanese are aware that Protestants exist (or of the crucifix vs. empty cross distinction), how interesting would it be if the Valentian conflict was scripted as a fantasy version of Catholic southern Europe vs. Protestant northern Europe? Zofia and Rigel clearly have cultural similarities with Latin and Germanic peoples respectively.

“♤ Every artist has their signature streak. Look at the intensity/darkness of Michael's eyes and the 'air waves' passing through the MJ portraits - those are the signature nuances of Miss Ludmila Zimnika! She's a highly gifted Russian MJ artist.” — Fleur Forsyth, FB.
“If I could, I would own each portrait she has created over the years because they're all equally magnificent, in my humble view. Each one is a heartbreaker image”.💔
