Screw it, I'm starting a fanfiction cooking series.
Yeah so this got slightly out of hand. I recently re-(re-re-re)read @midnight-moth's masterpiece that is Kilonova and I was probably hungry while at chapter 28/29, because chickpeas have been on my mind ever since (it's been weeks y'all). So may I present my most unhinged and obsessive fandom thing yet: RainDrop's chickpea flatbreads.
There was some kind of sandwich wrapped in flat bread that only had vegetables and chickpeas in it and a sauce that tasted like garlic and basil.
Also can I just say the chapter description "Rain likes Chickpeas. Dewdrop is sweaty." is a hilariously accurate description of this whole stage of their relationship. So adorably enamored by everything the other does. As Moth's Dew says: Death, he was I am in fact dead now.
A N Y W A Y, while I may not have a 1000-years-old-but-also-childishly-naïve water ghoul to trill at me (cute; death.) and demand individual chickpea feeding, I can see why Rain liked this. Maybe if I'm bored I'll type up a recipe (I am Not A Good Cook, this was not difficult lol).
This was fun, and made me not eat oven pizza yet again, please feel free to share other fandom foods with me to feed (literally) my hyperfixation!
#how tf should I tag this...?#midnight_moth's Kilonova#em cooks#fandom cooking#ghost#raindrop#this made me clean my kitchen (all 20cm of it!). now how can I use fandom to trick myself into cleaning the rest of my flat?#and yes that is a bunch of electrical cables centimeters from my hob. safety first here in germany!#ghost fandom cooking

hey, random question! what platform/method do you use to keep your robust digital media when ripping CDs? i havent done it since i was a kid with itunes (when itunes let you upload your own stuff....) and wanted to start again
Platform...they are files?
Like, mp3s; I keep them in my hard drive and thumb drives and so forth. My 'music' folder has subfolders, mostly by artist, which have subfolders per album. I just. Have the files. In my computer. Very basic method.
I organize and play them through VLC mostly. Or, on devices that still have it, I have kept using Windows Media Player, because I'm comfortable with the UI and why not, but they're actively phasing it out so I can't recommend adopting it lmao. And ofc if you're in the apple ecosystem it's not remotely an option.
I don't know that much about macintosh tbh but afaik they do let you have a file directory where you put your files that you own, which is definitely what I consider to be the most sensible baseline, if you have a device with enough memory. And memory has gotten pretty cheap.
I don't know of any cloud client service that's actively catered to letting you upload stuff you own and then stream those files on any device you please without having to jump through extra hoops, and suspect it might not be a thing at this point because there is no profit in that and it's not free to provide. They really want you to have to pay money to access content that you don't own. Sorry.
I bet you could figure out a way to keep a reasonably large music library in the amount of free storage google gives you with an account, and then play from there, but I don't think it would be very seamless. Maybe even less so on iphone.
But if your phone of whatever type has or can be modified to have sufficient storage space, you really can just. Keep your music in it. And then play it. VLC is open source and very good, and they have it for apple; I definitely recommend it.
But you don't like, keep files in it, it's just a player and sorter. So it doesn't feel like it answers the question you asked exactly, sorry.
#ask#hoc est meum#axiolotl#music#tech#i still have an mp3 player#that i hook up by aux cable to a speaker#when i want to play music out loud#had very smug this holiday season when two people on two occasions spent an hour each trying to get their paid Spotify accounts#to work with the right combination of devices#to actually provide ambient music#while i could do so in thirty seconds flat after the second guy gave up#the first 'guy' was my sister at christmas who borrowed my laptop because she couldn't get her bluetooth speaker working#so she wanted to aux without tying her phone to the speakers#accidentally hard-booted it#and got hella DARVO and made christmas very bad for me#i'm still sore about this and this made me extra smug about 'winning' against spotify at new years lol#but also spotify demonetized most of their tracks so i get to make my penury and inflexibility into a moral stance now lmaooooo

the real knitting tragedy is when the best/most intricate sweater you've ever made was made with yarn that turns out to pill rather quickly 😩
#we're talking full cabled lace panels knit both in the round and flat#short row shaping within the lace#I love this sweater but someday I'm going to have to re-knit it with sturdier yarn#knitting tag

My new screen tablet arrived today!!! It’s so big!!!
Cannot wait to try it out for real on Friday because I have the day off, for now it’s just basically going to be a third monitor on my desk at work.
#windy whispers#ignore my terrible cable management#it’s only living at the office until the monitor arm I want goes on sale#don’t have room on my home desk to lay it flat otherwise

This is the stupidest decision from Netflix ever. So, not only are you punishing your already-member customers, but you're making people pay an additional $8.00 a MONTH for EACH additional user on the account while we're in an over-inflated economy and people can barely afford to make ends meet, let alone pay for "fluff stuff" like a streaming service??
Give me a freakin' break. 😤😡
Not only that, but they have the NERVE to raise prices on members AGAIN. 🙄
#netflix#so annoying#pretty soon streaming services will cost as much as cable tv smh#this is ridiculous#it's not even a flat-fee#it's a per user fee per account smh#I hope everyone cancels their netflix membership and shows this company something lol

At some point I am going to actually have to watch Idiocracy. I mean, I know I don't HAVE to, but I enjoy subjecting myself to such film experiences for the sake of having a better reason to analytically criticize something.
#also I am on this mike judge kick rn so why not#I can say this with the little bit I do know about that film and what it is...attempting to say#I think the aspects of how it falls flat will be the most interesting to see#it is one of those favorite movies for misanthropes and atheists and libertarians aka the most grating people to converse with#I REALLY kind of just wanted to point out that mike judge kind of already explored this topic of satirizing human stupidity#with beavis and butthead#but I think his approach with them is done a bit more successfully#like their inception is clearly making fun of aspects of a particular subset of cable-poisoned youth living in circumstances that foster it#but (I at least idk) still find them like able#and aside from them a LOT of the satire also points to the tone-deafness of otherwise educated individuals#it is actually kind of nuanced how the incompetence of the educated are highlighted#anyway I am just ranting rn and it is late#any of my moots seen idocracy? have any insights (hate) to share about it?#squack

its funny bc when i got into knitting i was like 'ok but im not gonna be like those OTHER knitters and make knitting my entire personality' and then i immediately abandoned that and my entire personality is knitting now. im knitting a sock rn btw. if you didnt know. ive never knit one by hand before. only by machine. so its exciting.
#im doing techniques i could never do on the machine#i wanna come up with an adapted version of my sock pattern that would allow me to make a lace or cabled or ribbed foot instead of just plai#stockinette. but i INSIST on having a heel flap and gusset so we will see if i can manage that. i know it will need to be a sock knit flat#and then sewn up but idk if/how it will work out

so MAYBE I spent 4 hours in IKEA on a whim instead of cleaning my flat BUT! BUT!!!!! I bought several forms of Tiny Shelves which as any fule kno makes everything instantly tidier.
added yet another tier to my stack of tea/coffee/cocoa/misc shelves to control The Collection. got trays under all my draining plant pots so I can actually water them. and I got a new monitor stand which is wide enough to fit both my A3 tablet and my A5 tablet underneath and has a shelf with enough space to trade out my work and home laptops easily. plus it's like 3in less deep than my old one, so that's freed up a bunch more desk space.
also of course vitally we did get the Small BLAHÅJ which was the whole point.
I also found a portable freestanding bag situation (toybox from the nursery section) which is both a) a way better option for storing glass recycling and hauling it down 3 flights of stairs than my previous solution "small cardboard box which holds 8 jars/bottles until one of us can be bothered to transfer them into a bag" and b) HAS A REALLY CUTE WHALE ON IT
plus we (Sam) got some new plant friends and the next size up of a lidded pyrex box I've always found super good for lasagne. and Sam got several things he's needed for a while (as well as a wee shark)
in summary did I spend too much money at IKEA and fritter away a full day walking around aimlessly for fun to the point of exhaustion? yes. was it extremely sensible and adult and I'm actually correct in all regards always? perhaps.
#red said#the disadvantage of the new monitor stand is bc the sides are solid it's a lot less good for cable management than the old one#i may need to consider my approach to that#i don't want to tie any laptop cables down bc both chargers need to leave my room relatively frequently#but it's a bit suboptimal right now cause one transformer pack is taking up a big chunk of the shelf#and my work macbook charger is kind of folded around awkwardly to keep it plugged in while the laptop's tucked away#on the other hand my tablets are both tidier and more accessible#so it's 6 of one half a dozen of the other#anyway. i was too productive last thing before bed so although I'm very tired i now can't sleep#but i rearranged things into the new trays and shelves and tidied my desk and sorted out my laundry#so that's not 'cleaned the flat' but given that i got in at 10pm it's not nothing#anyway i got Sam a peace lily and he got another plant too#and talked me out of buying a sweet pepper plant which. he's RIGHT i have already occupied EVERY surface with my chili and tomato seedlings#and buying a plant from IKEA for £8.50 vs buying seeds for like £1.75 and getting several years of multiple plants#just isn't as good an economic proposition#but i want the peppers NOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW#he is right though

I've witnessed these gentleman fixing my trackball mouse recipe: 1. get slightly drunk 2. get slightly high 3. open the thing 4. get higher while discussing options 5. sacrifice an old mouse for the switches 6. start soldering in the parts using a sewing needle and a torch lighter to heat it up 7. success
the fact that we only have “herculean task” and “sisyphean task” feels so limiting. so here’s a few more tasks for your repertoire
icarian task: when you have a task you know you’re going to fail at anyways, so why not have some fun with it before it all comes crashing down
cassandrean task: when you have to deal with people you KNOW won’t listen to you, despite having accurate information, and having to watch them fumble about when you told them the solution from the start (most often witnessed in customer service)
feel free to chime in i ran out of ideas much faster than i anticipated
#drunk/high engineering#punk engineering#RIP Gladys#I am still infinitely touched by the sacrifice of this important memento just to save my mouse <3#Odyssean task#i also witnessed them saving a keyboard#they built a small loft for storage from totally random scrap materials in an afternoon#using random objects directing the airflow through the flat so we can cool it down when it was 30+ degrees inside in the summer#soldering a modern cable onto a remoshka probably from the 60s (?)#it is the soviet equivalent of a slow cooker. before it was cool. delicious meals!#the other adventures in punk engineering are the stuff of legends#but i tend to believe them after witnessing these miracles XD
