A Mads poll with a difference!
A poll of Mads Mikkelsen movies where the selection is based on range of factors, including but not limited to: genre, writer/director, country of release, date of release and 🎉vibes 🎉
Some of the movies may fit in more than one category, so vibes have mostly informed those decisions.
Round One:
Choose your fave!
Time for flouncy shirts and tight britches, bitches!
Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas is a 2013 French-German historical drama loosely based on the 16th century Hans Kohlhase. Mads plays Michael Kohlhaas a horse dealer who gets into a feud with a local baron, leading to an ill-fated revolt.
A Royal Affair is a 2012 Danish historical drama and romance set in the 18th century court of King Christian VII of Denmark. Mads plays Dr Johann Struensee, the mentally ill King's ill-fated physician who has an affair with the King's wife.
Bastarden (The Promised Land) is a 2023 Danish-German-Swedish historical drama set in 1755. Mads plays Kahlen, an impoverished Danish officer who obtains permission to build property on barren land but runs into trouble with a local magistrate.
Flammen & Citronen (Flame & Citron) is a 2008 Danish historical drama set after the Nazi invasion of Denmark. Mads plays Jørgen Haagen Schmith, a member of the Danish resistance.
Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky is a 2009 French historical romantic drama. Based on a 2002 fictional novel, the plot follows the rumoured ill-fated love affair between French fashion designer Coco Chanel and Russian composer and conductor Igor Stravinsky - played by Mads.
Lots of ill fates to choose from!

Summary: During the heat of the 1944 Danish summer, Bent and Jørgen spend some time together trying to stay cool.
Rating: Teen and up
Word count: 2,176
A/N: I hope at least one person will enjoy this, so I'm actually going to advertise a fic for once. Thure Lindhardt never looked better than he did in this movie, if you ask me, and just writing it felt like a fuck you to every right-wing person in Denmark, which is an instant win in my book.

[A3!] Event | Devil Maid’s Holiday | Episode 9
Tumblr media
Izumi: Hmm… A little more to the right…
Izumi: …Alright, just like that.
Sakuya: Yeah, I think that seems pretty good! Thank you for everything, Director.
Izumi: You don’t have to thank me. This is nothing.
Izumi: (I was a little worried when the client asked if we could do this over the internet, but…)
Izumi: (Thank goodness we had Itaru-san, Chikage-san, and Kazunari-kun to teach us everything we needed to know…!)
Taichi: Director-sensei, we’ve all finished changing and getting our makeup done!
Izumi: Aww…! Everything suits you perfectly, guys!
Izumi: (Wow, they all look even cuter than I thought they would…!)
Citron: We are sooo very cute! This will surely make the client fall in love with us!
Tumblr media
Yuki: Watch your legs! You’ve got a lot of them showing, so be careful with the way you walk.
Azami: …Thank God mine’s long.
Homare: Just because your legs aren’t showing doesn’t mean you should be careless. Clothes like these require you to have more etiquette.
Muku: W-What am I going to do? I’m getting so nervous. Will everything really be okay…? What if I get so focused on how I’m walking that I skip one of my lines, or…!
Taichi: You don’t gotta worry, Mucchan! If that happens, we’ll have your back!
Sakuya: …
Yuki: What? Are you nervous too?
Sakuya: N-No. I’m just… happy.
Sakuya: When I heard we were gonna be wearing maid uniforms and saw your really cute rough drafts, I was a little bit worried if things were gonna be okay or not.
Sakuya: I’ve played female roles before, and obviously I wasn’t worried about your costumes, but…
Sakuya: Originally, the client said they wanted women to do this.
Sakuya: What if they wanted us to wear the costumes against our will, or what would we do if they don’t approve…
Sakuya: But I’m not worried about that anymore. When I stood in front of the mirror after having my costume and makeup on, I really felt like we could do this.
Sakuya: I can’t make costumes, or write scripts, or even really direct, but… Because of that, I want to put the thoughts and feelings of the people who can do those things into performances too.
Yuki: …Then we’ll definitely snag this deal.
Tumblr media
Sakuya: Yeah, let’s do our best!
Muku: Sakuya-kun! Director-san has one last thing she wants to check…
Sakuya: Ah, I’ll go to her right now!
Yuki: …
Azami: …That’s Sakuya-san for you.
Azami: He’s told me that same thing before too.
Yuki: That’s because he really can’t help but meddle.
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Sakuya: …Sorry for the wait, guys! We can get going now.
Homare: Well then, let us begin then, shall we?
Yuki: Alright, let’s show them just how cute we can be.

Cast
Sakuya - Tio
Citron - Eliza
Yuki - Lilu
Muku - Lala
Taichi - Cherie
Azami - Ame
Homare - Celine
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Izumi: (Deep in the forest in the dusk, the castle of the devil king stands quietly towering over the surroundings beyond the thick fog. There, many devil maids serve the devil king.)
Cherie: “After like, FOREVER, it’s finally almost time for Halloween. Ah~ I’m SO excited!”
Lala: “We get a full day off once a year on Halloween night. Hehe, I can’t wait either!”
Cherie: “Hey, so like, what are you planning on doing for Halloween, Lala?”
Lala: “Obviously, I reeaally want to go see an idol concert. I haven’t gotten my ticket yet, though, so I’ve got to make sure to do that.”
Lilu: “It seems like basically all of the idols you follow end up retiring due to controversy for some reason, though, Lala.”
Tumblr media
Lala: “Ugh, Lilu! That would never happen to the girls I’m following now!”
Cherie: “Things always go up in flames like that because you’re a devil supporting… Never mind, it’s nothing.”
Cherie: “What about the rest of you? What are you guys thinking of doing?”
Tio: “I don’t really have any plans, so I guess I’ll just clean around the castle or something…”
Lilu: “I’d really like to go shopping. But it’s just so crowded no matter where you go.”
Ame: “I don’t really have anything in mind either. Hm, maybe I’ll just sleep for the whole day.”
Ame: “Ah, or maybe I’ll go down to the human world and mess with some humans.”
Cherie: “Aha, I mean, doing stuff like that IS only possible every once in a while, isn’t it?”
Celine: “What are you all talking about?”
Ame: “Ueh, Head Maid! Were you listening?”
Celine: “Regardless of how much time you’re getting off, that doesn’t mean you get to cut loose.”
Tio: “Exactly!”
Celine: “Tio, you are your own problem.”
Celine: “Recently, the devil world has been reforming the way we work, therefore, you’re not allowed to work overtime or on holidays, yet when it comes to you, you really only know how to work nonstop…”
Tio: “B-But that’s because this is my hobby.”
Celine: “Haah, that wasn’t meant to be a compliment. You have to be sure to get proper rest too.”
Celine: “Very well. If I catch you working on your next day off, I’ll have no choice but to put a spell on you to force you to sleep.”
Cherie: “Wait, Head Maid, you can’t be serious!”
Ame: “Heheh, maybe if the spell is too strong, you’ll end up being put to sleep forever.”
Tio: “Hmm… Well, whatever…”
Lala: “What are you saying, Tio!?”
Celine: “Haah, you’ll really just do whatever you’re ordered to, won’t you… Unbelievable. Anyway, rest when you have time off. Understood?”
Tumblr media
Tio: “Fiiine, understood.”
Izumi: (Later, while cleaning up, Tio enters a room in the castle and finds Lilu sewing a maid uniform.)
Tio: “Huh, Lilu? And Eliza-sama! What’s with that dress…?”
Eliza: Oh, well if it isn’t Tio. Fufu, what do you think? It suits me, doesn’t it?”
Lilu: “Eliza-sama wanted an outfit that’s similar to one mimicking a maid’s, so I made it especially for her.”
Tio: “Wait, but Eliza-sama is the daughter of the devil king…”
Eliza: “It’s fine. I’ve always wanted to try one on.”
Eliza: “I’ve always been envious of the way that everyone seemed so happy and lively while working, and these uniforms are just so cute!”
Eliza: “And Lala once told me secretly that human idols also wear these kinds of clothes.”
Lilu: “...Idols, huh?”
Lilu: “Actually, I wanted to be an idol.”
Tio: “Wait, an idol?”
Lilu: “After listening to Lala talk, I wanted to actually be an idol, not just someone supporting them.”
Eliza: “How wonderful!! Perfect, let’s do that then!”
Lilu: “What!?”
Eliza: “You have to do the things you want to do! Tio, you and the other maids are invited too! Let’s all become idols together!”
Eliza: “Right, how about we do it this Halloween? You all have off then, right?”
Tio: “I-I’m okay! I don’t think I’d be a good fit for it anyway…”
Eliza: “What are you talking about? Being an idol is a type of job, you know. And because it’s a job, it should be perfect for someone who loves working like you, right, Tio?”
Tumblr media
Tio: “...! A type of job…”
Tio: “Oh, okay then! If that’s true, then yeah, it is perfect for me!”
Lilu: “Everyone becoming idols… Yeah, I want to do that!”
Eliza: “Fufu, then it’s decided!”

dear aidoneus,
you must look so cool and sophisticated!! i hope you make lots of money to get that suit! what’re you wearing right now? 🫵
oh! you also said you’d like to talk about shows! hanni’s my favorite, he’s so intelligent and loves so hard. and that man’s hands?? he’s kinda like you tbh, your darling is right! do you like opera too? and do you like will the most? i’ve only watched a few mads movies for the heu if you know what that is! how about you?
yours,
bbg anon 💕
p.s yes i did wanna be babygirl hehe
Dear Babygirl,
Thank you, my outfit is nothing special or sophisticated today: a sweatshirt, jeans, leather jacket, and boots, all in black.
Hannibal is certainly more cultured (and wealthy, and pretentious) than I could ever achieve. I am not very well-versed on opera, but I do have an interest and appreciation. The music is, of course, enthralling to witness live. Sadly, there are not as many easily accessible/affordable venues or performances in the US as opera is not as popular here. I know some of the major composers perhaps a tad more than a majority of my peers, but I am much more knowledgeable about musical theatre. Here is a clip from the 1990 Phantom of the Opera film featuring the final trio song from Gounod's Faust.
I do like Will Graham the most in terms of aesthetic appeal, but I like both his and Hannibal's characters the most. They can be painfully relatable in the worst ways possible. That being said, I also need to throttle Hannibal sometimes (I liked Beverly).
I am familiar with the HEU, so I'm guessing you watched Polar (2019) and Charlie Countryman (2013)? I also liked some of his historical-based pieces (A Royal Affair, Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas, Flame & Citron, Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky) and dramas (The Door, Prag, The Hunt). I bolded a few of my personal favourites, but note that I am biased towards the ones where he speaks French. I must say, a lot of Mads Mikkelsen's films are depressing...
Sincerely,
Aidoneus

Citrus and Praliné Kings' Crown
Tumblr media
This year's Kings' Crown is a celebration of its Southern France origins, as it is filled and glazed with lemon and bergamot marmalades I brought back from Menton this Summer. And it could only be paired with best of pralinés, the Luxury version I made at Christmas. This Citrus and Praliné Kings' Crown is fit for Queens and Kings indeed! Happy Epiphany!
Ingredients (makes 1 brioche):
4 cups strong white flour
1/3 cup caster sugar
4 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
2 teaspoons salt
1 lemon
4 large eggs
½ cup milk
1 cup unsalted butter, cut into small chunks
1 heaped tablespoon Confiture de Citron de Menton (Lemon Marmalade)
1 heaped tablespoon Confiture de Bergamote de Menton (Bergamot Marmalade)
2 tablespoons Luxury Praliné
a fève*
1 egg, lightly beaten
½ tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon Confiture de Citron de Menton (Lemon Marmalade)
1 teaspoon Confiture de Bergamote de Menton (Bergamot Marmalade)
1 tablespoon water
1 tablespoon pearl sugar
The day before, combine strong white flour, caster sugar, yeast and salt (they shouldn’t touch at this stage) in the bowl of an electric stand mixer fitted with the hook attachment. Grate in the zest of the whole lemon. Turn on low speed until well-combined.
Turn on medium speed and add the eggs and milk, and mix 4 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough will be quite sticky at this stage. Gradually add butter, a few chunks at a time until fully incorporated. When all the butter is incorporated, increase speed to high and mix, 4 to 6 minutes, until dough is soft, shiny and slaps the sides of the bowl.
Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly to form a ball. Pop the dough ball in a lightly oiled large bowl and cover with cling film. Let rise at room temperature for an hour.
Again, turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly. Shape into a ball, and return dough to the lightly oiled bowl. Cover with cling film, and prove once more a couple of hours or until the dough has tripled in size. Place the bowl in the refrigerator overnight. The dough will continue proving, which will give the brioche a light and airy texture.
In the morning, remove the bowl from the refrigerator, and allow the dough to come back to room temperature, for 1 hour.
Line a baking tray with baking paper. Set aside.
Remove cling film and turn dough out on a lightly floured surface. Divide the dough into two equal portions. Roll two of the portions into large rectangles onto a lightly floured surface.
Spread Lemon and Bergamot marmaldes onto the first dough rectangle, leaving at least an inch on the outward edge, and roll it tightly like you would a Swiss roll, seal the seam, and gently roll into a long “sausage”. Set aside. Repeat with the second dough rectangle, and generously spreading Luxury Praliné onto it, before rolling it, too. Hide the fève* in one of the “sausages”!
Place both of them vertically on the work surface, pinching the end of both of them firmly together. Twist, and shape into a crown. Place on prepared baking tray. Leave to prove for 30 minutes to one hour in a warm, draught-free room.
Whisk the egg and milk together.
Preheat oven to 190°C/375°F. Once the brioche has risen, brush thoroughly with egg wash. Bake at 190°C/375°F  for 35 minutes, until a nice golden brown colour.
Meanwhile, combine Lemon and Bergamot marmalades with water in a small saucepan. Warm over a low flame until dissolved, well-blended and syrup-y. Set aside.
Remove Citrus and Praliné Kings’ Crown from the oven. Immediately and generously brush all over with lemon and bergamot syrup. Sprinkle liberally with pearl sugar. Transfer to serving plate and let cool for a bit before serving and finding out who’ll be crowned Queen or King! It pairs nicely with chilled Cider.
*A fève is a tiny porcelain figurine traditionally hidden in Epiphany Galette des Rois or Kings’ Brioche in France. Whoever finds it in their slice is Queen or King for the day. Before it was a figurine, a dried fava bean (”fève”, in French) used to be hidden, hence the name.

So my Sora and Sakuya piece actually did what I consider really well, which got me all giddy and I had to share more KH a3! thoughts so here is a "little" post on how I think an A3! world would work in Kingdom Hearts.
If A3! appeared in Kingdom Hearts, the World would be called Actor's Paradise, I don't make the rules.
(It's not called Veludo Way because that's one of the locations they'd get to visit, and also Zafra wouldn't fit under that title)
Thinking about this with the thought that in another game they'd appear again the storylines used (sorry Summer and Autumn troupes) would either be Spring Year 1 first visit, Winter Year 1 second visit, or Winter Year 1 first visit, Winter Year 2 second visit.
Why these points in time?
Spring Year 1 is the introduction, I feel like Sora helping them handing out flyers and stuff and preparing for the first life-altering show would be nice, it could sorta have KH2 Twilight Town (minigames) vibes. It would give Sora a good chance to bond with a small amount of people and give Mankai a special place in Sora's heart. Plus then Sora would be invested in the act-off vs. God Troupe because he helped Mankai with their first high-stakes play.
I feel like the act-off vs. God Troupe is a good event to use because there's a lot of negativity in this arc like first off *vividly gestures to WInter Troupe* second off *vividly gestures to Reni and Haruto*. I think Heartless would love to be here. And I think after the act off Haruto almost gets eaten by a Boss Heartless, but don't worry he is saved.
As for Winter Year 2, my original first thought on if KH had an a3! world was it'd be called Actor's Paradise and Zafra would be visitable mainly for a specific event/scene like the Clock Tower in Neverland in KH(1). I figured that the best time for that would be Year 2 Winter because otherwise, it'd have to be an event story storyline. And I just really wanted to include Zafra.
But now I'm full-on imagining it, imagine it with me, the only two locations (that Sora could access in the trip to Zafra) would be the Zafra theater and like the off-limits hallway. And/or the front area, the front area makes a lot of sense. So I guess three areas unless the hallway is just used for cutscene purposes, which could be the case if we're going for clock tower vibes. The front area would have the save point.
The reason Sora doesn't go with Chikage and Itaru is because Heartless are already starting to attack and so he, (Donald, and Goofy) are asked to help protect the younger Spring Troupe members especially because they'll have a looming worry over all their heads making them prime bait, also Chikage has already proven to somehow hold his own against the Heartless. (And then ya know Itaru wasn't included in the Chikage count originally). I also think that Chikage wouldn't want Sora, Donald, and Goofy to accompany him because they don't exactly scream stealth mission, plus, I think if I recall KH lore correctly, having the Keyblade sorta makes you a target and I think that would be a problem for Chikage's mission.
Then, then, when the Chandiler falls and while/after the people are evacuated, Orange's subordinate who actively ignored orders to not kill Citron, turns into a Chandiler/Flame Heartless, aka the Boss Heartless here and Sora fights 'em adding to the destruction of the theater lol.
{Alt, alt. of the visit schedule Spring Year 1 first visit, Winter Year 2 second visit but then there would be no proper introduction to Winter Troupe lol. None of those leave a proper introduction to Chikage? That's fine, that's one person who will have some strange skills Sora Donald and Goofy, are both impressed by and a little scared of(Donald is either like "he's not that impressive" or "gee Sora why aren't you that impressive ( ͡º ͜ʖ ͡º )" there's no in-between I don't make the rules.) Like maybe him handling the Heartless is how he meets our trio? Maybe a temporary team-up and they're all heading to Mankai and it's like "surprise! we know the same people". & Chikage is just like "(^∀^)I haven't met a single normal person since joining Mankai so yea this checks" How does his discomfort(?) with animals play in? I dunno, who's Chikage?}
As I conclude this I want to also say that these events are picked out with Sora in mind. If this was Sea Salt, Summer or Autumn troupe probably would be a good group for them to meet(I'm really feeling Banri & Roxas meeting tbh but also I think they could very easily join the "we love Tenma and making fun of him is how we show it" train). For Keyblade Knights it's sorta debatable, I would love for Aqua to meet Citron and Winter Troupe, but a part of me feels like Terra should meet Autumn Troupe, and then I start to go that route because not only does Terra meeting like each of them but especially Juza and Omi just make sense, but Taichi should probably meet Ven(why? I dunno) but I think really Ven would like to hang out with Summer Troupe, like come on he'd have so much fun with them. Maybe if it were in BBS Aqua would get the Spring or Winter plotline, Ven the Summer one, and Terra the Autumn one lol. Oh, I think Riku and Autumn troupe too tbh. Or maybe Riku and Winter Troupe. I think Riku meeting Banri and Juza is, like, almost something, but I also think that his vibes are kinda Winter Troupe, ya know?
Anyway, Sora and Sakuya would get along so well, they'd be besties really and truly and Citron would adore Sora because Sora, like Sakuya, is a big sweetheart. Tsuzuru agrees with Donald on something at some point and is just like 'Wow, I just agreed with a talking magical duck. What's next?' but also wonders if he could write something lowkey inspired by this. Itaru is like a combination of 'lol' 'this is kinda weird' and 'so is Sora like the chosen one? Having a Keyblade seems cool but also that looks like a lot of physical hard work, good luck with that *draws a picture of if he had Keyblade* *actively making sure Tsuzuru's taking notes for when he hires him*'. And Masumi just wants them to stop being so loud because they are lowkey always yelling.
I'm not gonna do any other meetings because this is highkey lowkey about Sora Donald and Goofy meeting Spring Troupe. But in the back of our minds, we should all think about Aqua and Citron meeting and Aqua teaching him how to make wayfinders anyway.
Thank you for reading all the way through this long post and it's bad jokes. ^^

One more for today, this time the Yuuz.
Yuzu’s Kanji name is spelled 柊 柚子, Hiiragi Yuzu. The Kanji 柊, hiiragi refers to hiiragi plant. Plant’s name etymogolically comes from the old Japanese verb, hiiragu, which means pain, or suffering + ki, tree, since this plant is prickly. So its alternate spelling is 疼木, hiiragi/hiiraki, suffering tree. This is similar to sakaki, divine tree.
The plant’s historical context:
It is mentioned twice in the Kojiki, the oldest surviving historical record of Japan.[8] The first mention, under the name hihiragi, is in connection with the name of a kami, Hihiragi-no-sono-hana-madzumi-no-kami[12] (translated by Chamberlain as "Deity Waiting-to-see-the-Flowers-of-the-Holly"[13]), with the word madzumi (rarely seen) being used to describe the plant's characteristic of its flowers rarely blossoming, as interpreted by the scholar Tominobu.[8][14] Its second mention occurs during a passage referring to how a holly wood spear, made of material from the tree and spanning "eight fathoms long",[15] was presented to the Prince Yamato-take by the Emperor prior to him being sent to subdue the East.[8] Its prickly and non-prickly variations are sometimes described as "male" and "female" respectively, though this does not have a relation to the plant's gender.[8][16]
The plant, unlike Sakaki, has no direct religious significance, though. Hiiragi is an uncommon, but real surname in Japan, much like Sakaki. Much like sakaki, it is an evergreen plant with white flowers.
The Kanji 柚, yu, just means citron, or yuzu. It can also be read as yuzu on its own. The reason it is seperate from 柚子 is because to make it superficially look like the “Yu” (Play) Kanji going on with Yu-Gi-Oh! protagonists.
The Kanji, 子, spelled zu here, but is generally used as ko, means child, though in this context it is diminutive suffix, so Little Citrus, or Little Citrus. It has other meanings that we discussed before, though.
The zu Kanji’s uncommon spelling here is borrowed from Anzu’s name, since Yuzu’s name is a scrambled version of Anzu Mazaki/Masaki’s name, 真崎 杏子 (Truth Peninsula Little Apricot).
The alternate spelling would be Yuzuko, or Yuko, which would allude to Yuya’s mom, Yoko. Thanks, Shin Yoshida.
Yuzu’s name also contains the 渦, uzu, vortex/swirl, sound (as in Naruto Uzumaki), which generally means maelstorm, or eddy, though in the context of Yu-Gi-Oh!, it refers to Fusion (see Odd-Eyes Vortex Dragon), as Fusion is generally characterized as a vortex/black hole monsters get sucked into. It can also indirectly refer to lightning bolt, since Katakana spelling of Vortex ボルテックス, contains ボルテック, Voltic, which is why GX, and ARC-V Fusion animations have lots of lightning.
A bit deeper dig into this:
**The vortex pun is likely partially why some of the classic Fusion Monsters are WIND Attribute (Chimera, Flame Wingman etc.) Though each of them have their own symbolisms.
**Uzu pun might be partially why both Ruri, and Rin use WIND Decks, since unlike the Yu-boys, who were designed by Naohito Miyoshi invidiually for both manga, and animé, the rest of the bracelet girls, and Ray are merely designed off Miyoshi’s design of Yuzu by the ARC-V animators (which means in a meta sense, Ray, and Zarc are clones of Yuzu, and Yuya). It is also likely why they all use Fusion in the animé.
**This might be part of why DoSolfachord Coolia is a WIND Attribute, since Duel Links seems to trying to retcon Solfachords for Yuzu due to absence of Pendulum Melodious.
**Vortex can also refer to Synchro (Vortex the Whirlwind), but much more rarely.
**Uzu can also be spelled as “ka”, referring to both the song Kanji, and flower Kanji, both used in relation to Yuzu.
Yuzu’s name has no direct melodic connection, except maybe allusion to suzu (little bell), which can also be spelled as rin, or tsuzumu, drum, which can also be spelled as ko. The common spelling of zu Kanji ko can also allude to ko as in light, or koe, voice.
As a final addendum, the reason why Yuzu has pink hair despite her name being literally yuzu is because pink hair is often used in animé in replacement of blonde hair, due to assumption of strawberry blonde hair being a type of blonde hair (it is actually a type of red hair). This is also why Ruri isn’t blonde despite her bracelet’s color, since Yuzu already covers the “blonde” slot.

Week 10: Social Media Governance
As digital citizens in an increasingly interconnected world, it's crucial to understand the complexities of social media governance and its role in managing conflicts. This topic is integral to any study of digital citizenship, as it explores how social media spaces are regulated, how conflicts arise, and what mechanisms are (or aren’t) in place to address them.
Why Examine Conflict in Social Media?
Social media has transformed how we communicate, but it has also introduced new challenges. Conflict arises in digital spaces just as it does offline; however, the virtual world amplifies and accelerates these dynamics. Understanding social media governance and regulation helps us recognize both the potential for constructive engagement and the need for safeguards. By examining how these platforms manage disputes and harmful behaviors, we can learn more about the responsibilities of digital citizenship and how society can work toward a safer online environment (Ess, 2020; Jain & Agrawal, 2022).
What Is Social Media Governance and Regulation?
Social media governance refers to the frameworks and policies that social media companies and governments implement to manage content and user behavior on their platforms. This includes guidelines around acceptable speech, privacy policies, and reporting mechanisms (Gorwa, 2019). Regulation, meanwhile, involves the rules and laws that governments impose on social media companies, dictating what content is allowed or restricted and defining accountability for issues like misinformation and online harassment.
The policies of social media companies vary widely, but most have community standards or terms of service designed to reduce harmful content and maintain user safety. Governments are increasingly involved, with some creating legislation that demands greater transparency and accountability from these platforms. Understanding social media governance is essential to realizing how digital spaces are controlled and how different stakeholders—platforms, governments, and users—play a role in shaping them (Flew, 2021; Heldt, 2020).
Trolling, Flaming, and Harassment: Defining Key Terms
To delve deeper into social media conflict, it’s essential to define some common terms related to online antagonistic behavior:
Trolling: This refers to intentionally provoking or upsetting others online to elicit an emotional reaction. Trolls often disguise their intent behind humor or sarcasm, but their goal is usually to disrupt conversation and sow discord (Phillips, 2015).
Flaming: Flaming is the act of posting aggressive or insulting messages, often in response to specific individuals or topics. This behavior typically involves more explicit hostility than trolling (Jane, 2017).
Harassment: Online harassment includes a broad spectrum of abusive behaviors, from direct insults and threats to coordinated campaigns aimed at harming individuals or groups. Unlike trolling and flaming, harassment is sustained and often intended to intimidate or harm the target (Eckert, 2018).
These behaviors have evolved alongside the internet itself, with early online forums and chat rooms witnessing the first instances of trolling and flaming. As social media platforms grew, so did the prevalence and intensity of online harassment.
What Research Tells Us About Online Harassment
Research into online harassment has highlighted several concerning trends. Studies have shown that a significant portion of internet users have experienced harassment, with women, minorities, and other marginalized groups being disproportionately affected (Duggan, 2017; Powell & Henry, 2017). The psychological impact of online harassment can be severe, often leading to anxiety, depression, and even withdrawal from online spaces. Platforms have attempted to address these issues through features like block lists, reporting tools, and AI-driven content moderation, but these measures have often fallen short (Citron, 2014).
Research also suggests that effective solutions require a multi-faceted approach, combining technology, policy, and social education. Educating users on respectful online conduct, implementing stricter policies, and increasing accountability for perpetrators are all part of a comprehensive strategy to combat harassment. However, balancing freedom of expression with the need for safety remains a complex challenge.
This lecture on social media governance and conflict is crucial for understanding the responsibilities of digital citizens and the challenges of creating safe and constructive online spaces. As we continue to navigate the digital world, gaining insight into social media governance and the underlying causes of conflict can help shape more informed, empathetic, and responsible online communities.

Vodka Market - Forecast(2024 - 2030)
Vodka Market Overview
The Vodka Market size is estimated to reach $38.9 billion by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 3.9% during the forecast period 2022-2027. Vodka is frequently delineated as distilled spirit or distilled alcoholic beverage fabricated from starch-rich grains such as wheat malt, flaked maize, rye, and sorghum. Ethanol and water are two primary liquids that vodka consists of. Vodka preparation includes the fermentation of fruit and grains with bacteria and yeast to convert possible sugars into alcohols. Fermentation is immediately followed by distillation (purification) where the obtained liquid is heated to enlarge its alcohol by volume content. After distillation water is poured in order to reduce the overall alcohol content. The alcohol by volume content of vodka may vary from region to region, however, it generally holds an ABV of around 37-40%. Owing to the requirements imposed on alcohol used in vodka production, mainly the content of methanol, acetaldehyde, ethyl acetate, and higher alcohols is measured via direct sample injection into the gas chromatograph equipped with a flame ionization detector (FID). It was originated in the Russian Federation and Poland and holds a massive fan following in European countries like Poland and Germany.
