Do you have the ability to clean the leather jacket?
This is the most frequently asked concern of women's leather bomber jacket. In order to keep your jacket in good shape it is essential to take care of your leather. As with other kinds of clothing, you'll not be in a position put your jacket in washing machines because this could make it shrink and crack as well as be washed. But yes, you can clean your garment made of leather. Simply wipe the dirt from the jacket using a soft piece of cloth and drying it off by hand. If your coat is filthy or dirty it is easy and easy ways to wash it and wear it to make it look fresh for a long period of duration. Leather bomber jacket women can be quite expensive compared to ordinary fabrics jackets. Always be cautious when taking care to wash your garment. If you decide in your mind to purchase leather jackets, you must first know their protection measures and ways to stop the jackets from being destroyed. Always inquire with your seller regarding the cleaning and washing of the jacket the place you purchased it. Don't try the standard methods for leather jacket washing. Here, I'll explain a few steps to follow, following these steps, you will be able to clean the leather garment at your own home.
Mix the solution using hot water as well as dish soap.
It is also possible to create a cleaning solution using one part of vinegar to the form of one-third water.
Use a soft cloth to apply the solution, then bend it and then wipe the coat.
Make use of a clean damp cloth to clean the solution of cleaning.
Dry the jacket using an absorbent towel.
Do you have the ability to dry leather jackets with a dryer?
There are numerous opinions regarding whether or not it is necessary to wear dry coats. It is generally accepted that you should keep any leather clothing in a dry location. Certain people believe this however, others claim it damages their most cherished motorcycle jacket and that they'll never repeat this ever again. But there's no way to know for certain without testing it with the specific garment you own. In the end, drying leather clothing using a dryer is not advised. The following are arguments against it.
A leather jacket may be kept in a dry location however, high temperatures and dry periods that last longer than 30 minutes aren't ideal for skin health and can cause fast damage to skin's fibers.
It's not a great idea to drying any skin type in an environment with high temperatures. Even faux leather shouldn't be dried in high temperatures. The high temperatures could cause the fabric to shrink or crack. Dry leather items that are wet to dry out in the air away from direct sun or heat.
After washing the leather jacket with the low-temperature drying set men's bomber jacket might not dry fully, but the odds of being damaged are less. The jacket may appear stiff and thin however, it is easily fixed by wearing it just a few times.
How do I soften the leather jacket of a tough person?
It is a strong and gorgeous material well-known for its long time. But, it's an extremely durable material that may sometimes be challenging in the real world. However it is true that a leather jacket is liked by a large number of people. In this respect it is important to discover how to soften the leather jacket without sacrificing its quality, and also without damaging it.
The majority of the skin does not originate from cows, as you might imagine. The majority of skins are found in animals like lambs and goats, pigs, buffalo and deer. Its shape makes it ideal to be used for protective clothing such as motorcycle suits and jackets.
The combination of firmness and softness of goat skins make it a great alternative to cow or the calfskin. Additionally, the skin of a goat absorbs water to a degree, which makes it a unique and valuable item. Lambskin leather is one that fashion and high-end designer brands think is of the most valuable.
Here, we provide the top eight ways that will help you make your leather jacket more comfortable.
Apply Vaseline or alcohol
Cleanse the jacket clean.
Apply skin conditioner
Use olive oil
The jacket was wet
You can wear a jacket over it
Include mink oil
Coconut Oil
If you imagine a brown genuine leather coat for fashionable men typically, you'll see photos from Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher as well as Brad Pitt as Fight Clubber.

Holidaymaker buys house in Brunswick for $1575000 over the phone
The Beaumaris home, owned by the same family since its construction in 1971, sold under the hammer for $1,707,000, above the $1.67 million reserve. The three-bedroom home on 1 Cherbourg Avenue was completely original, featuring an orange rug that was considered the height of fashion in the 1970s. Four bidders battled for the keys after the $1.5 million bid was opened, and a young family submitted the winning bid. Hodges Real Estate Beaumaris selling agent, Kevin Plesser, said the sellers were very happy that the home had been transferred to another family. Buyers plan to refurbish the untouched gem, which Blizier notes is in amazing condition for its age. “The building inspector told me he had never seen anything like this in all his years,” he said. In Seddon, a three-bedroom single-family home sold for 71 years, for $1,355,000, well above the stated reserve of $1.05 million. The seller’s grandparents bought 98 Albert Street when they moved to Australia in the 1950s. Stefan Stella, auction manager at Ray White Glenroy, said the house has been in the family ever since, and has been an investment property for the past 12 years. loading The bid opened with a reserve of $1.05 million, and three bidders competed. Quick bids of $20,000, $10,000, and $5,000 brought the home up to its selling price. “It was bought by a young local family,” Stella said. “They went over it every day for six years and were really excited when it went on sale.” A two-bedroom apartment in an Art Deco building in Elwood sold for $1.13 million, above evidence of between $1 million and $1.1 million. Two bidders competed for the unit at 3/101 Addison Street, and it was sold to the man who made the opening bid for $950,000. “The buyer was from South Yarra and had always wanted to be by the bay,” said selling agent Sam Gamon of Chisholm & Gamon Elwood. “He came to the auction with coffee in his hand, so he had already entered the Elwood way of life.” In Brighton East, a stunning five-bedroom home on 183 South Road sold for $3.71 million, in one of the biggest auctions of the weekend. The two-story home sold more than $200,000 above reserve to a family with two young children who only inspected the property for the first time on auction day. Two of the bidders submitted more than 20 bids for the home, Alex Schiavo, director of Kay and Burton, said. “Two very interested parties participated in the bid, pushing the sale price $210,000 above the seller’s reserve price,” Schiavo said. While there have been successful sales, not all properties have been sold under the hammer. A one-of-a-kind, four-bedroom home at 95 Neale Street, Carlton, quilted in a seller offer valued at $2.6 million, is at the bottom of the $2.6 million to $2.8 million range. Records show that the house was once an inn of the royal order of an Antidylovian buffalo, and was last sold in 2017 for $2,061,000. Brad Till of Brad Till Woodards said he was surprised that the historic and beautiful home had not been sold. It will be advertised for private sale. We’re Worlds Apart (1)
Draco Malfoy x American No-Maj/Muggle fem!reader
Post-Battle of Hogwarts
warnings: language
series m.list | general m.list
summary: Draco Malfoy is a pureblood wizard. Magic runs through his veins and has been since his birth. You're a Wiccan No-Maj; a non-magical being with ordinary blood through your veins, but practices what you call magick. And this very practice upsets your neighbor.
Tumblr media
(gif cred)
"They want... me?"
Draco Malfoy sat across his supervisor in his office at St. Mungos. His eyes widened at the offer he was given.
"Well Mr. Malfoy, you've certainly shown us around here that you do well at your job. If I must say so myself, I believe you're ready for the job," his boss has explained. Draco had recently finished his Fellowship and became a remarkable Healer. So much so that the Santa Marie Hospital for Maj Persons in Buffalo, New York contacted his supervisor to offer him a position as Head Healer. It was an incredible opportunity, one that a person could only dream of.
Draco sat still in his chair, shocked that of all Healers from his department, Santa Marie wanted him. After the Battle of Hogwarts, Draco was determined to change the views people had of him. He was no longer the prejudice prat that he was at school. Draco Lucius Malfoy is now a matured, capable young man. He worked hard and was proud that he did everything on his own. No help from daddy dearest, no pressure of the Malfoy name. It was all him.
"I would love to take this job. When would I start?"
Draco finished filing his paperwork at the Ministry of Magic that was to be sent to the Magical Congress of the United States containing his work permit and all the necessary identification. Walking around London, he grew excited about it. It was a feeling he hadn't felt since he got his letter for Hogwarts.
The next thing he has left to do was to find housing. There was an office located in Diagon Alley that specialized in international real estate. Draco walked into the brightly lit office. Much to his surprise, Daphne Greengrass stood at the reception desk.
"Well, well. Long time no see, Malfoy," she said with a smile on her lips. He was quite relieved to see a familiar face. "Good to see you too, Daph. I'm checking in to see Ms. Moreau. I'm moving to America soon." Daphne was both shocked and impressed that Draco would be making such a big move. They chatted momentarily about the reason for him moving and she congratulated him. Soon enough, the real estate agent walked out and called Draco into her office.
She sat at her desk and gestured for him to take the seat opposite her. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Malfoy."
"The feeling is mutual, Ms. Moreau," Draco had slightly bowed his head.
"Please, call me Gwen," she smiled as she reached to shake his hand, "I see from your paperwork that you're moving to America, correct?" he nodded his head in response. "Fantastic! Now, looking at the locations for Buffalo, we have quite a bit of selections from houses to flats. Of course, in America they're called 'apartments'. With your budget, you would be able to get this nice house that is just a 10 minute drive to the Apparition office to Santa Marie's." She showed Draco pictures of the house. It was quaint. An all white, one story house that had three bedrooms, a lifted porch, small kitchen, two bathrooms, trimmed green grass in front and a dark stained wooden fence that went around the house. Draco nearly fell in love with it. Its contrast to the Malfoy Manor was warm and inviting.
Gwen had shown him pictures of the other places she had gathered for him, but none of them peeked his interest as the first house did. It was quite silly as he thought about it. Most likely, he would be working long hours at the hospital to even be able to appreciate the home. It made more sense to get an apartment as he would most likely just use the space to sleep and eat. But the house was begging for him to live there. After about an hour long session, Draco made his final decision on the small house.
"Excellent choice, I had hoped you'd love it. Now, before I contact the sellers about your offer, I must let you know this before you sign anything," Draco shifted in his seat. Of course there had to be a catch. A house this perfect needed one thing to go wrong. Was it busted windows? A terrible neighborhood? Shitty pipelines? He nodded for her to continue.
"This is an integrated neighborhood. Both muggles and wizards live around and you might not know which are which for a while." Muggles. He sat in silence, staring down at the photos of the house. Did he really want a muggle neighbor? No, you're past this Draco thought. The old Draco wouldn't even give the place a second thought. But he wasn't him anymore. "I don't care. I'll take it."
You woke up in the morning, stretching your arms and legs out of the thick blanket. It was currently 8:47 am, your alarm clock beside you still had 13 minutes to alert you to wake up. Deciding to just get a head start on the day, you walked into the your bathroom and started your shower. The water was at the hottest you took and you went about your daily routine. You said your repeated incantations in the shower as you lathered yourself with soap:
Water, water, wash away. Water, water, cleanse today.
Walking out your shower, you grabbed your towel and recited the next spell as you dried yourself:
By the earth in the soap,
by the air in the steam,
by the fire that heats the water,
by the water that cleanses,
I am cleansed, clean, and ready for the day.
When you were 12 years old, you used to watch your grandmother perform Wicca in her bedroom. Your mother didn't particularly join in on the belief, but also didn't oppose to you starting alongside your grandmother when you turned 18. Now, you were almost 26 and still kept on the same practices.
On the contrary to people's interpretation or views of witchcraft, you called yourself a White Witch; someone who performs good magick upon selfless reasons. You never hexed anyone nor wished any ill fate. The Laws of Nature was surely watching at all times and if you did, expect to get the same fate but in threefold. Not that you even had any reason to do such things, anyways.
After getting ready, you grabbed your bag, keys — which held a protection charm — and went on your way to work. Your cat sat in her tower located in your living room and she watched you walk out. Getting into your car, you noticed movement next door. A big, moving truck was parked and a crew of movers carried furniture into the house. Finally, someone new you thought.
Feeling nosy, you sat patiently to figure out who it was moving next door. Was it a family? An elderly couple? Maybe newlyweds. Right when you were about to pull out of your driveway, a handsome blond stepped out of the house guiding the movers where things were going to be placed. You couldn't hear his voice, but could tell from the distance that it had to be attractive.
He looked around the street and caught you starting from your car. You hesitantly raised your hand to wave at him but was cut off by a man walking up to him with a clipboard gesturing where to sign. You looked at the time on your watch and nearly panicked at how the time passed, leaving you with only 15 minutes to get to work. Hauling ass, your car let a screech out as your foot punched the gas pedal. You'll be able to introduce yourself later, Y/N.
A few days passed and Draco was headed for the Apparition office to his new workplace. He had leased a new car to drive there. According to the Magical Congress, wizards and witches that lived in integrated neighborhoods must check in at Apparition offices to not raise suspicions from No-Maj. Seemed quite silly at first, but it really wasn't that big of a deal. He remembers the first time he went to Diagon Alley with his father through the Leaky Cauldron, finding it hidden with a wall that required taps against it. Behind it, a magical alley hidden from muggles.
He pulled into the office building lot with ease. It was clean on the outside and had a sign on top that only read MCA Co,. At the front door, there was a pin pad with numbers on it that kept it locked. Draco pulled the paper from his pocket and dialed the number. The door made a clicking noise which signaled that it was unlocked.
In the front was a young man sat at a reception desk typing away onto a computer. It was a strange sight for Draco as he's never seen one before. He walked up to the desk and waited for the person to acknowledge him.
"Hello, sir. Welcome to the Magical Congress' Apparition Office. May I see your ID pass, please?"!the accent was unfamiliar to Draco, but he nonetheless reached for the pass clipped to his trousers and gave it to the receptionist. He scanned the pass, handed it back to Draco and raised up from his chair to guide Draco to the door which had a direct line to the hospital. "Have a good day, sir!" were his last words before he went back to his desk.
Draco looked at the address once more before appariting into Santa Marie's. Here goes nothing.
It was a long day at the office. Setting up appointments with new clients, greeting all the new people he'd be working with, and a surprise welcome party to end it. Everyone he met had different variations of American accents. Some from Chicago, some from California, and some from the native state of New York.
A man by the name of Ian Parker helped Draco navigate around the building. Draco was quite relieved to hear that Ian had lived close by, just two blocks and a turn away. They had lunch together and talked about just simple things about each other. It felt nice to meet somebody and they not know who you are and things you've done in the past.
Once he got home, the first thing Draco did was start to run the shower, gathering his sleepwear as the water heated up. Not meaning to, Draco noticed how his bedroom window had perfect view of yours. To him, it was extremely odd.
You had faux vines that curled around your four-poster bed, a couple of plants that hung against the wall and posters of movies that Draco knows for a fact he's never seen in his life. You walked into your room and went up to a small drawer and dug through it. After a few seconds, you grabbed out some incense sticks, lit them and stood them on the stand that laid on your dresser. Afterwards, you sat on the floor with your legs crossed and started taking deep breaths.
Draco caught himself staring for too long and was about to head into the shower until he saw movement from the corner of his eye. There you sat, but this time, you held items in your hands. One held what Draco thought to be just some colorful rocks. The other hand held a bundle of herbs on fire at the tips. Your lips moved and it had Draco curious. Your hand with the herbs moved in a specific pattern, creating smoke around you. Once you finished, you set the rocks and herbs down at a table and left the room. That was odd. Draco thought. He passed it off and went on about his night.
"It was the weirdest thing I've ever seen. And trust me when I say that Hogwarts has its fair shares of odd moments," Draco sat in the break room with Ian and two other people, Ashley and Blaine. They laughed at the description Draco had of you and settled after Ian began his explanation.
"It seems that your No-Maj neighbor is considered a Wiccan." What in Merlin's name is that?
"Pardon? What's do you mean?"
"It's what they call witchcraft," Ashley added, "it became a popular thing after the Salem Witch Trials. Of course, there's no real magic to it like what we can do, but they nonetheless believe it works."
Draco couldn't believe what he was hearing. Muggles are trying to be witches? This was probably the last thing he ever thought he would hear. Inside, a familiar feeling had ignited. A feeling he had, or he supposed still had, for a certain species. He didn't like it but to find out that what he is had become a fantasy to be was upsetting. He was born into this life, not them. Not you.
It had been a really nice day at work. People had been kind and you sold out of a new oil you made. As you entered your home, your cat ran up to your legs and purred against you. You smile down at her and made your way to prepare your dinners.
She nibbled away at her bowl and you watched in content.
Outside, you heard a car pulling in. It's probably him. You peaked out the window in the living room and your guess was correct. He stepped out of a black car and walked to his door. You tried catching his attention by waving your arms about, hoping he glanced your way. When he did, you waved excitedly to him.
He stared at you with a straight face, no hint of any feeling. It was odd, people usually like you and wave back but this guy was just looking at you. Not doing anything. You looked around to see if there was something behind you, only to look back and see that he was gone. Ooo...kay?
You grabbed your sweater and decided to introduce yourself to your new neighbor. It had been almost a week and it seemed that he still hadn't acquainted himself to anyone on the street. The cool, spring breeze sent a pleasant chill down your spine as you walked on the sidewalk.
Once you stepped in front his door, you knocked three times. No answer. Three more times. No answer. The lights that were on had turned off and curtains had been shut in almost a blink of an eye. He had made it clear that he was not in a mood to talk to anyone. It slightly hurt your feelings, but you told yourself to not dwell on it. He's just tired from work. Just then, an idea popped in your mind as you headed back home.
"Stupid fucking muggle clock," Draco cursed as he was running around his bedroom getting dressed. He overslept by an hour and had 10 minutes to be in the Apparition office to go to work. Damn American laws.
He grabbed an apple, not his usual sour green one but a sweet red one this time, grabbed his bag and ran for the front door. Something taped to the door caught his attention and he halted his movements. It seemed to have been a note someone left. He unfolded the paper and read it to himself;
Hello! My name's Y/N and I wanted to welcome you to the neighborhood! I hope we can become good friends~ if there's anything you need or if you'd ever like to get acquainted over coffee, please feel free to knock on my door! It'd be nice to get to know you :)
At the bottom of the note was a small drawing of a witches pointed hat and Draco immediately knew who left the note. Almost on instinct, the note caught on fire in his hands and the ashes fell to the ground. He dusted his hand off and went to work. As if we would ever become friends.

My latest round of seed packets arrived today!!!
Tumblr media
We now have some edible pinenut seeds (will be most likely grown in a container), a huge mix of Different tomato varieties, and what I am most excited for:
Buffalo Gourd seeds!
Scientific name Cucurbita Foetidissima! Which pretty much translates to "Stinky Squash" lol, as either the leaves or the flowers are known to be smelly; how smelly? We'll find out!
Buffalo Gourds develope deep taproots and are perennial squash, but they're not Native to PA (Because of the mountain range to the west of us that stopped the spread of a lot of different plants from naturally traveling past them into our area), so the Buffalo Gourds will be grown in a large container. Also the smelliness is a factor too, depending on how strong it is I don't want neighbors complaining about it stinking up the yard lol.
Buffalo Gourds can be eaten very young like summer squash, but are bitter at maturity and mainly eaten for their seeds.
Like all of the squash we're growing (with the obvious exception of saving pure seeds for an heirloom variety), I am going to attempt to hand pollinate a cross between the C. Foetidissima and the other, more common species of squash like:
C. Pepo (Zucchini, Jack'o'lanterns),
C. Maxima (Buttercup, pink banana),
C. Moschata (butternut),
AND I ALSO have seeds for!!!
C. Mixta/Agyrosperma (Cushaw)
And
C. Ficifolia (Shark Fin)
So, as of today, I officially have seeds for all SIX species of edible squash!!
These seeds were purchased from:
They were ordered on the 10th of January 2021, and arrived two weeks later on 25th of January 2021, but aware that a LOT of seed sellers online are being SWAMPED with orders right now because we're moving into Year Two of the Covid-19 pandemic, and a lot of people are gardening for the first time due to a combination of free time at home and food insecurity.

Picture books to read during Cambodian New Year week
Tumblr media
Happy TLC (Thai, Lao, Cambodian) New Years everyone! It is a time where we can celebrate our beautiful culture and holiday during the week of April 12th.
If you are like me you might or might not be thinking, are there any Cambodian New Year books out there in English or bilingual for Cambodian kids? My motto is usually if it ain’t by Khmer, I won’t buy. It is because I want to support our Cambodian/Cambodian American authors. Although I make a few exceptions due to my personal curiosity. If you are like me browsing on Amazon, there are many people who would want to capitalize on the fact that there are really not that many children’s picture books, story books, etc. on Cambodian culture, holidays, stories, and more. Sellers would raise the price like crazy!
You can definitely check with your local library to see if they carry any copies of these books rather than buying first. Remember, your VOICE matters, and the public library is there to support our communities! If they don’t carry a copy, you can always make a suggestion for purchase.
Let me share with you with what I have found:
Cambodian New Year by Michele Dufresne
Cost: $6.00
https://pioneervalleybooks.com/products/cambodian-new-year
Tumblr media
Book Summary: A little girl recounts a Cambodian celebration at her school as well as interesting facts about this special day of the year.
My personal thoughts: Easy reader book with photographs. Published in 2006 and the photos are a bit blurry. Not too in depth on Cambodian New Year. The story is narrated in the voice of the young Cambodian girl. This book totally reminds me of my childhood, dancing the “Deer dance” in the school auditorium for all to see. Kinda embarrassing and fun for me.
Sinat and the Instrument of the Heart : A Story of Cambodia by Chath pierSath
https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/sinat-and-the-instrument-of-the-heart-a-story-of-cambodia-make-friends-around-the-world_chath-piersath/
Cost: Varies, you can purchase from Thriftbooks, Amazon, etc. for $4.00 and up (also a cd might not accompany the book if purchased used)
Tumblr media
Summary: Sinat is a young boy in Cambodia. He learns to play a thousand-year-old string instrument from the last great living master who teaches him the special skill. The story is based on the real-life experience of a boy named Sinat, whose actual musical performance is recorded on the CD that accompanies this book.
My personal thoughts: To quote the Khmer author, “There are many ways to be human, as there are many ways to be Cambodian.” -Chath pierSath
The Last King of Angkor Wat by Graeme Base
Cost: $17.95
http://graemebase.com.au/book/the-last-king-of-angkor-wat/
Tumblr media
Summary: A timeless fable full of adventure and beauty from a much-loved storyteller. Tiger, Gibbon, Water Buffalo and Gecko are sitting amongst the ruins of ancient Angkor Wat, wondering which of them would have made the best king. The appearance of a mysterious visitor leads them to discover their true selves in a race to a distant hilltop.
My personal thoughts: Super fun book. I brought this book to a Khmer kids’ after school program and the kids loved it! The artwork is amazing. It almost feels like you are racing with the animals! Also a bonus search and find puzzle for readers. How many butterflies can you find in the pictures? It might be a challenge to find a copy of this book, but it's a popular book that you can probably find in your local library as this author published many other picture books as well.
(I personally carry 2 copies and I might do a give away for one of them!)
In My Village by Lauren Iida and Carolyn R. Hall, Illustrated collaboratively
Cost: $12.00
 http://www.theantipodescollective.com/our-books.html
(The hyperlinks for purchasing these books will take you to Amazon.com)
Tumblr media
Summary: This Khmer-English bilingual story highlights things children would find in a typical village in Cambodia. This story is a beautiful journey into the traditional Khmer lifestyle. Illustrated collaboratively by a group of Seattle-based artists in paint, cut paper, woodblock print and more.
With its captivating illustrations and simple text, written in both Khmer and English, this book is designed to speak to Cambodian children in a fun and accessible way.
My personal thoughts: Support Lauren Iida and the Antipodes Collective, period. They print bilingual Khmer and English picture books! Although I was told that the Khmer parts might have some typos, keep in mind, the wonderful projects they are doing to elevate the lives of Khmer folks. If I was to say, was there any Khmer narrative first person book that I enjoy reading, it has to be this one. I pictured the similarities in my life growing up in the states to the voice of the narrator growing up in Srok Khmer.
Other Great Reads:
Drawn Together by Minh Le
http://minhlebooks.com/drawntogether
Tumblr media
Summary:
“A beautifully told and illustrated story about a grandson and grandfather struggling to communicate across divides of language, age, and culture.”
— Viet Thanh Nguyen, Pulitzer Prize winner for The Sympathizer
My personal thoughts: A beautiful book that really hits home for many of us growing up and losing parts of our identity. This book beautifully illustrated a relationship between a grandparent and child and how they found a common ground.
Great news! More Cambodian story books to be published, follow on social media and stay tuned!

New Post has been published on https://techcrunchapp.com/2020-nfl-trade-deadline-tracker-kwon-alexander-sent-to-saints-desmond-king-goes-to-titans/
2020 NFL Trade Deadline Tracker: Kwon Alexander sent to Saints, Desmond King goes to Titans
The 2020 NFL trade deadline (Tuesday, Nov. 3) is almost here. The league has already seen a few trade offers accepted, but more are on the horizon. CBS Sports is tracking all of the news and rumors and providing a one-stop shop for readers. The most recent updates are at the top.
Chargers send DB Desmond King to Titans
Los Angeles is sending Pro Bowl defensive back/kick returner Desmond King to the Titans in exchange for a sixth-round pick, according to NFL Media and ESPN. King, who is in the final year of his deal, has recorded 24 tackles and one sack in six games this season.
Saints acquire former Pro Bowler Kwon Alexander from 49ers
The New Orleans Saints are sending a conditional fifth-round pick and linebacker Kiko Alonso to San Francisco in exchange for Alexander, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The two teams play each other in Week 10. The Saints are attempting to win at all costs, while 49ers general manager John Lynch was eager to get a big contract off the books.
These two teams are still in the hunt for their respective divisions.
CBS Sports insider Jason La Canfora notes that Marvin Jones is the receiver that has been made available by Detroit but questions if Golladay might also be had at the right price.
“Things have been tense between him and the organization for quite some time; he’s been brooding over not getting a new deal, and that came to a head on Saturday when I’m told he was not at the facility when he should have been,” La Canfora wrote.
Golladay, 26, is in the final year of his rookie contract. He has recorded 20 receptions for 338 yards and two touchdowns while missing two games with an injury.
Reserve linebacker Robert Spillane has played well post-injury to Bush but Pittsburgh has seen a past without solid linebacker play and it was not pretty. They bolstered their Super Bowl contending roster in the form of veteran LB Avery Williamson. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday night that the AFC team acquired Williamson and a 2020 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round pick. Williamson goes from the NFL‘s lone win-less team to the lone undefeated team; a reversal of fortunes overnight.
Williamson has 59 tackles and one interception this season.
Saints steadfast in claim that Michael Thomas is unavailable
The potential availability of New Orleans wide receiver Michael Thomas is a rumor that has gained steam in recent weeks for whatever reason. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says that the team has no intention of moving the star wide receiver despite punching a teammate in practice leading up to a Week 5 contest against Chargers.
A trade of Thomas would leave New Orleans with a dead cap hit of $27 million in 2020. The number dips down to $14 million following the 2022 season.
Bengals’ Carlos Dunlap sent to Seattle
The Seahawks acquired disgruntled edge rusher Carlos Dunlap from Cincinnati Wednesday in exchange for offensive lineman B.J. Finney and a 2021 seventh-round draft pick, according to SI.com’s Albert Breer. Dunlap has vocalized his unhappiness by posting the team’s defensive rotations and promoting the sale of his home on Twitter and more. Dunlap has 18 tackles, one sack and two pass deflections this season.
The Bengals may not be done at the deadline. There are a few other veterans that could be on the move. There is more on that story below. ESPN’s Adam Caplan also notes that the Seahawks may not be done acquiring pass rush help.
Ten trades that can aid contenders in a Super Bowl run
CBS Sports’ Patrik Walker mocked up ten trades that could help contenders make a Super Bowl run. Is it possible that the Patriots could be buyers and sellers ahead of the Nov. 3 deadline? Walker has the Patriots moving a big-time player while also adding a brand name wide receiver.
Not every team is a contender though and the deadline could still be interesting for lower-tier teams. CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin explored one trade that each team should make in the coming days.
Everson Griffen dealt to Lions in exchange for pick
It did not take long for Dallas to find a viable suitor for edge rusher Everson Griffen. On Tuesday, it was learned that Detroit was acquiring the former Viking in exchange for a conditional 2021 sixth-round draft pick. He is due to receive roughly half of his $6 million salary from the Lions. League COVID-19 protocols prevent Griffen from playing this weekend so his first action with his new team will come Nov. 8 against … Minnesota.
Miami has turned the keys to the castle over to rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa but that does not mean the AFC East contender is prepared to give up on their season nor recently demoted second string quarterback. Head coach Brian Flores states that the team has no intention of trading Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The veteran led the Dolphins to a 3-3 record and second place within the division.
Shopping list for three NFL teams
The CBS Sports team has been compiling needs for multiple teams across the NFL. Rather than reading a generic list of players available, indulge in a more team-centric approach:
Cleveland Browns Las Vegas Raiders New England Patriots New York Giants Philadelphia Eagles Washington Football Team
Players that could be available at the deadline
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin constructed a position-by-position list of 75 players that could be on the move ahead of the Nov. 3 trade deadline. Some of the notable names include Saints quarterback Jameis Winston, Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green, Texans edge rusher J.J. Watt and Patriots cornerback Stephon Gilmore. For the full list, check out CBSSports.com.
Cowboys make DE Everson Griffen, DT Dontari Poe available
CBS Sports’ Patrik Walker confirmed that Griffen and Poe have been made available to other teams in a potential trade scenario. Griffen signed a one-year, $6 million deal with Dallas prior to the season and would be owed roughly half. CBS Sports’ Tyler Sullivan notes that the 32-year-old has played 56.43% of Dallas’ defensive snaps and totaled 20 tackles, six quarterback hits, and 2.5 sacks. CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin laid out five potential destinations for Griffen with Seattle being the most likely.
Poe signed a two-year deal worth $8.5 million, but there is a reasonable out in the contract after this season. It is less likely that he is moved at the deadline.
Ten trades that should happen before the Nov. 3 deadline
CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin proposed ten trades that would be win-win situations for both teams involved. What would A.J. Green look like on the Packers? It may not cost as much as you might think. Read the explanation behind that trade:
“At this point, why shouldn’t Green Bay take a swing, even if it eventually means losing Green in 2021 free agency and hoping for a compensatory pick? Aaron Rodgers has done very well operating with just Davante Adams and/or Allen Lazard, but with the latter hurt and No. 12 clearly positioned to take the Packers on another run, he deserves the gamble,” Benjamin wrote.
Romeo Crennel attempts to assure Texans they won’t be traded
The Texans are off to an unexpected 1-6 start to the season. Bill O’Brien has been fired in favor of veteran coach Romeo Crennel. Crennel, who likely has little authority over personnel decisions as an interim head coach, attempted to reassure his players that they will not be traded.
“So, with this situation the way it is, I think that it might be more on their mind this year than it would be any other year. I’ve talked to them and tried to reassure them that I’m not looking to trade guys, but human nature is human nature.”
CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora believes it is time for a fire sale in Houston. The team has struggled with the likes of edge rusher Whitney Mercilus, J.J. Watt and others. If the team is going to be bad anyway, they might as well re-coup some of the picks flushed down the drain by O’Brien.
Bengals DE Carlos Dunlap attempts to sell house on Twitter
There has been no mincing of words in regard to Dunlap’s frustration. He has posted the team’s edge rush rotations on social media and is now attempting to sell his house on Twitter. The message is clear: trade me. CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr wrote about the veteran’s frustration upon being demoted.
In addition to Dunlap, defensive tackle Geno Atkins, wide receiver A.J. Green, wide receiver John Ross and cornerback William Jackson could also be on the move. CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin explored potential destinations for each of the disgruntled AFC North talents. The Bills were a staple.
Atlanta has already pressed the reset button on their leadership structure with head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff being shown the door. The mindset will not trickle down to the players, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who notes that the team has no intention of trading Ryan or Jones.
The Falcons have gone 25-30 since that fateful 28-3 collapse against the Patriots in Super Bowl LI.
Patriots searching for receiver help again
New England drafted N’Keal Harry in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft and traded a second round pick for Mohamed Sanu. Neither has been the answer that the team had hoped. The Patriots are still alive within the AFC East but the outlook grows more bleak with each passing week. The team’s upcoming game against Buffalo could determine whether they are buyers or sellers by Nov. 3. As it stands, Bill Belichick is exploring options on the wide receiver trade market, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora. Two of the team’s top five receptions leaders are running backs. Draft tight ends Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene have a combined one reception.
Texans expected to trade at least one receiver, other veterans
CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora has reported that the Texans are a popular team in trade conversations. The organization’s sluggish start and obvious eyes to the future have potential playoff contenders scouring their roster. La Canfora states rival executives believe Houston will trade at least one receiver, Will Fuller, Brandin Cooks and Kenny Stills, by the deadline. They are also gauging the market on edge rusher Whitney Mercilus, who has three years left on a four-year, $54 million deal signed in May of 2015.
Running back Duke Johnson and tight end Darren Fells are other names that have drawn consideration.
Vikings looking to shed cap space, rival GMs aren’t eager
Minnesota has made a series of poor salary cap decisions leading up to the ultimate errors: re-signing Anthony Barr after he attempted to leave for New York and doubling down on Kirk Cousins. Now, they find themselves in a position to discard players because their season has not gone as expected and they are up against the salary cap wall.
The team has already traded edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue but more moves could be on the way. CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora had the following to say about the team’s activity: “Multiple executives who have been in contact with the Vikings believe the team is eager to move several more high-priced veterans who likely do not fit into the team’s long-term plans.”
The names most often mentioned are safety Harrison Smith, left tackle Riley Reiff, safety Anthony Harris, tight end Kyle Rudolph and wide receiver Adam Thielen.
Bengals more engaged in trade talks than the previous year
Defensive tackle Geno Atkins, cornerback William Jackson, wide receiver A.J. Green, wide receiver John Ross and edge rusher Carlos Dunlap have all made it clear that they are open to a change of scenery, according to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora. The Bengals were very unwilling to trade veterans last season — an absolute mistake, says the writer continually beating a dead horse — but La Canfora notes that NFL executives are “detecting a vibe that is not quite as trade-averse” in Cincinnati.
Giants trade Markus Golden to Arizona in exchange for draft pick
On Oct. 23, the Giants agreed to trade outside linebacker Markus Golden to the Cardinals in exchange for a 2021 sixth-round pick. Golden, who actually began his career in Arizona, had just 1.5 sacks in seven games with the Giants this season. It was a priority to bolster the pass rush following the loss of Chandler Jones for the season.
Philadelphia and Julie Ertz’s husband have been at odds over his contract for some time. The matters were only exacerbated by new deals for Travis Kelce and George Kittle this offseason. Ertz was recently placed on injured reserve, which means that he can not be traded. SI’s Albert Breer reported that the team attempted to trade the player before placing him on said IR. Prior to the injury, he had recorded 24 receptions for 178 yards and one touchdown.
Breer added that wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is also on the trade block, but it is difficult to fathom anyone would want to take on that contract in relation to his limited production.
Minnesota trades Yannick Ngakoue to Baltimore for draft picks
Less than two months after acquiring the pass rusher from Jacksonville, Minnesota shipped Yannick Ngakoue to the east coast in exchange for a package of draft picks less than they initially traded to the Jaguars. The Maryland native, who has recorded five sacks this season, is headed home in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a conditional 2022 fifth-round pick.
Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta hinted that the Ravens may not be done making moves. The acquisition of Ngakoue is clearly a move to slow down Patrick Mahomes, who is sometimes flustered by heavy pass rush, and the Chiefs offense. CBS Sports’ Patrik Walker graded the trade acknowledging that Baltimore fleeced their trade partner.
New York traded Willis and a 2021 seventh-round pick to the 49ers in exchange for a 2021 sixth-round pick. The capital gain is marginal at best but general manager Joe Douglas is cleaning house in the Big Apple. I explored some of the other Jets players that could find interest in their services at the trade deadline.
New York trades Steve McLendon to Tampa Bay
The Jets sent the defensive tackle and a 2023 seventh-round pick to the Buccaneers in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round pick. Tampa Bay had recently lost Vita Vea to an injury for the season.
It was later revealed that McLendon played for the Jets after finding out about his trade to the Buccaneers. A car was waiting for him after the game and he immediately drove to Tampa.

Aretha Franklin
Tumblr media
Aretha Louise Franklin (March 25, 1942 – August 16, 2018) was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist. Franklin began her career as a child singing gospel at New Bethel Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, where her father C. L. Franklin was minister. At the age of 18, she embarked on a secular-music career as a recording artist for Columbia Records. While Franklin's career did not immediately flourish, she found acclaim and commercial success after signing with Atlantic Records in 1966. Hit songs such as "Respect", "Chain of Fools", "Think", "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman", "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)", and "I Say a Little Prayer", propelled her past her musical peers. By the end of the 1960s, Aretha Franklin had come to be known as "The Queen of Soul".
Franklin continued to record acclaimed albums such as I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You (1967), Lady Soul (1968), Spirit in the Dark (1970), Young, Gifted and Black (1972), Amazing Grace (1972), and Sparkle (1976) before experiencing problems with her record company. Franklin left Atlantic in 1979 and signed with Arista Records. She appeared in the 1980 film The Blues Brothers before releasing the successful albums Jump to It (1982), Who's Zoomin' Who? (1985), and Aretha (1986) on the Arista label. In 1998, Franklin returned to the Top 40 with the Lauryn Hill-produced song "A Rose Is Still a Rose"; later, she released an album of the same name which was certified gold. That same year, Franklin earned international acclaim for her performance of "Nessun dorma" at the Grammy Awards; she filled in at the last minute for Luciano Pavarotti, who canceled his appearance after the show had already begun. In a widely noted performance, she paid tribute to 2015 honoree Carole King by singing "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" at the Kennedy Center Honors.
Franklin recorded 112 charted singles on Billboard, including 77 Hot 100 entries, 17 top-ten pop singles, 100 R&B entries, and 20 number-one R&B singles. She is the most charted female artist in history. Franklin's well-known hits include "Rock Steady", "Call Me", "Ain't No Way", "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)", "Spanish Harlem", "Day Dreaming", "Until You Come Back to Me (That's What I'm Gonna Do)", "Something He Can Feel", "Jump to It", "Freeway of Love", "Who's Zoomin' Who", and "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" (a duet with George Michael). She won 18 Grammy Awards, including the first eight awards given for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (1968–1975). Franklin is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 75 million records worldwide.
Franklin received numerous honors throughout her career. She was awarded the National Medal of Arts and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In 1987, she became the first female performer to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She also was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2012. In 2010, Rolling Stone magazine ranked her number one on its list of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" and number nine on its list of "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". The Pulitzer Prize jury in 2019 awarded Franklin a posthumous special citation "for her indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades."
Early life
Aretha Louise Franklin was born on March 25, 1942, to Barbara (née Siggers) and Clarence LaVaughn "C. L." Franklin. She was delivered at her family's home located at 406 Lucy Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. Her father was a Baptist minister and circuit preacher originally from Shelby, Mississippi, while her mother was an accomplished piano player and vocalist. Both Mr. and Mrs. Franklin had children from prior relationships in addition to the four children they had together. When Aretha was two, the family relocated to Buffalo, New York. By the time Aretha turned five, C. L. Franklin had permanently relocated the family to Detroit, where he took over the pastorship of the New Bethel Baptist Church.
The Franklins had a troubled marriage due to Mr. Franklin's infidelities, and they separated in 1948. At that time, Barbara Franklin returned to Buffalo with Aretha's half brother, Vaughn. After the separation, Aretha recalled seeing her mother in Buffalo during the summer, and Barbara Franklin frequently visited her children in Detroit. Aretha's mother died of a heart attack on March 7, 1952, before Aretha's tenth birthday. Several women, including Aretha's grandmother, Rachel, and Mahalia Jackson, took turns helping with the children at the Franklin home. During this time, Aretha learned how to play piano by ear. She also attended public school in Detroit, going through her freshman year at Northern High School, but dropping out during her sophomore year.
Aretha's father's emotionally driven sermons resulted in his being known as the man with the "million-dollar voice". He earned thousands of dollars for sermons in various churches across the country. His celebrity status led to his home being visited by various celebrities. Among the visitors were gospel musicians Clara Ward, James Cleveland, and early Caravans members Albertina Walker and Inez Andrews. Martin Luther King Jr., Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke all became friends of C. L. Franklin, as well. Ward was romantically involved with Aretha's father from around 1949 to Ward's death in 1973, though Aretha "preferred to view them strictly as friends". Ward also served as a role model to the young Aretha.
Music career
Beginnings (1952–1960)
Just after her mother's death, Franklin began singing solos at New Bethel, debuting with the hymn "Jesus, Be a Fence Around Me". When Franklin was 12, her father began managing her; he would bring her on the road with him during his so-called "gospel caravan" tours for her to perform in various churches. He also helped her sign her first recording deal with J.V.B. Records. Recording equipment was installed inside New Bethel Baptist Church and nine tracks were recorded. Franklin was featured on vocals and piano. In 1956, J.V.B. released Franklin's first single, "Never Grow Old", backed with "You Grow Closer". "Precious Lord (Part One)" backed with "Precious Lord (Part Two)" followed in 1959. These four tracks, with the addition of "There Is a Fountain Filled with Blood", were released on side one of the 1956 album, Spirituals. This was reissued by Battle Records in 1962 under the same title. In 1965, Checker Records released Songs of Faith, featuring the five tracks from the 1956 Spirituals album, with the addition of four previously unreleased recordings.
During this time, Franklin would occasionally travel with The Soul Stirrers. As a young gospel singer, Franklin spent summers on the gospel circuit in Chicago and stayed with Mavis Staples' family.According to music producer Quincy Jones, while Franklin was still young, Dinah Washington let him know, "Aretha was the 'next one'". In 1958, Franklin and her father traveled to California, where she met singer Sam Cooke. At the age of 16, Franklin went on tour with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and she would ultimately sing at his funeral in 1968.
After turning 18, Franklin confided to her father that she aspired to follow Sam Cooke in recording pop music, and moved to New York. Serving as her manager, C. L. Franklin agreed to the move and helped to produce a two-song demo that soon was brought to the attention of Columbia Records, who agreed to sign her in 1960. Franklin was signed as a "five-percent artist". During this period, Franklin would be coached by choreographer Cholly Atkins to prepare for her pop performances. Before signing with Columbia, Sam Cooke tried to persuade Franklin's father to sign her with his label, RCA, but his request was denied. Record label owner Berry Gordy was also looking to sign Franklin and her elder sister Erma to his Tamla label. However, C.L. Franklin felt the label was not yet established enough, and he turned Gordy down. Franklin's first Columbia single, "Today I Sing the Blues", was issued in September 1960 and later reached the top 10 of the Hot Rhythm & Blues Sellers chart.
Columbia (1961–1966)
In January 1961, Columbia issued Franklin's first secular album, Aretha: With The Ray Bryant Combo. The album featured her first single to chart the Billboard Hot 100, "Won't Be Long", which also peaked at number 7 on the R&B chart. Mostly produced by Clyde Otis, Franklin's Columbia recordings saw her performing in diverse genres such as standards, vocal jazz, blues, doo-wop and rhythm and blues. Before the year was out, Franklin scored her first hit single with her rendition of the standard "Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody". "Rock-a-Bye" became her first international hit, reaching the top 40 in Australia and Canada. By the end of 1961, Franklin was named as a "new-star female vocalist" in DownBeat magazine. In 1962, Columbia issued two more albums, The Electrifying Aretha Franklin and The Tender, the Moving, the Swinging Aretha Franklin, the latter of which reached No. 69 on the Billboard chart.
In the 1960s, during a performance at the Regal Theater, WVON radio personality Pervis Spann announced that Franklin should be crowned "the Queen of Soul". Spann ceremonially placed a crown on her head. By 1964, Franklin began recording more pop music, reaching the top 10 on the R&B chart with the ballad "Runnin' Out of Fools" in early 1965. She had two R&B charted singles in 1965 and 1966 with the songs "One Step Ahead" and "Cry Like a Baby", while also reaching the Easy Listening charts with the ballads "You Made Me Love You" and "(No, No) I'm Losing You". By the mid-1960s, Franklin was making $100,000 per year from countless performances in nightclubs and theaters. Also during that period, she appeared on rock-and-roll shows such as Hollywood A Go-Go and Shindig!. However, she struggled with commercial success while at Columbia. Label executive John H. Hammond later said he felt Columbia did not understand Franklin's early gospel background and failed to bring that aspect out further during her period there.
Atlantic (1967–1979)
In November 1966, Franklin's Columbia recording contract expired and she chose to move to Atlantic Records. In January 1967, she traveled to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, to record at FAME Studios and recorded the song "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)", backed by the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section. Franklin only spent one day recording at FAME, as an altercation broke out between her manager and husband Ted White, studio owner Rick Hall, and a horn player, and sessions were abandoned. The song was released the following month and reached number one on the R&B chart, while also peaking at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Franklin her first top-ten pop single. The song's b-side, "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man", reached the R&B top 40, peaking at number 37. In April, Atlantic issued her frenetic version of Otis Redding's "Respect", which reached number one on both the R&B and pop charts. "Respect" became her signature song and was later hailed as a civil rights and feminist anthem.
Franklin's debut Atlantic album, I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You, also became commercially successful, later going gold. Franklin scored two more top-ten singles in 1967, including "Baby I Love You" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman". Her rapport with producer Jerry Wexler helped in the creation of the majority of Franklin's peak recordings with Atlantic. In 1968, she issued the top-selling albums Lady Soul and Aretha Now, which included some of her most popular hit singles, including "Chain of Fools", "Ain't No Way", "Think" and "I Say a Little Prayer". That February, Franklin earned the first two of her Grammys, including the debut category for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. On February 16, Franklin was honored with a day named for her and was greeted by longtime friend Martin Luther King Jr., who gave her the SCLC Drum Beat Award for Musicians two months before his death. Franklin toured outside the US for the first time in May, including an appearance at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, where she played to a near hysterical audience who covered the stage with flower petals. She appeared on the cover of Time magazine in June.
Franklin's success expanded during the early 1970s, during which she recorded the multi-week R&B number one "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)", as well as the top-ten singles "Spanish Harlem", "Rock Steady" and "Day Dreaming". Some of these releases were from the acclaimed albums Spirit in the Dark and Young, Gifted and Black. In 1971, Franklin became the first R&B performer to headline Fillmore West, later that year releasing the live album Aretha Live at Fillmore West. She returned to Gospel music in a two-night, live-church recording, with the album, Amazing Grace, in which she reinterpreted standards such as Mahalia Jackson's "How I Got Over". Amazing Grace sold more than two million copies. The live performances were filmed for the purpose of a concert film directed by Sydney Pollack, but due to synching problems and Franklin's own attempts to prevent the film's distribution, its release was only realized by producer Alan Elliott in November 2018. Franklin's career began to experience problems while recording the album, Hey Now Hey, which featured production from Quincy Jones. Despite the success of the single "Angel", the album bombed upon its release in 1973. Franklin continued having R&B success with songs such as "Until You Come Back to Me" and "I'm in Love", but by 1975 her albums and songs were no longer top sellers. After Jerry Wexler left Atlantic for Warner Bros. Records in 1976, Franklin worked on the soundtrack to the film Sparkle with Curtis Mayfield. The album yielded Franklin's final top 40 hit of the decade, "Something He Can Feel", which also peaked at number one on the R&B chart. Franklin's follow-up albums for Atlantic, including Sweet Passion (1977), Almighty Fire (1978) and La Diva (1979), bombed on the charts, and in 1979 Franklin left the company.
Arista (1980–2007)
In 1980, after leaving Atlantic Records, Franklin signed with Clive Davis's Arista Records and that same year gave a command performance at London's Royal Albert Hall in front of Queen Elizabeth. Franklin also had an acclaimed guest role as a soul food restaurant proprietor and wife of Matt "Guitar" Murphy in the 1980 comedy musical The Blues Brothers. Franklin's first Arista album, Aretha (1980), featured the No. 3 R&B hit "United Together" and her Grammy-nominated cover of Redding's "I Can't Turn You Loose". The follow-up, 1981's Love All the Hurt Away, included her famed duet of the title track with George Benson, while the album also included her Grammy-winning cover of Sam & Dave's "Hold On, I'm Comin'". Franklin achieved a gold record—for the first time in seven years—with the 1982 album Jump to It. The album's title track was her first top-40 single on the pop charts in six years. The following year, she released "Get It Right", produced by Luther Vandross. In 1985, inspired by a desire to have a "younger sound" in her music, Who's Zoomin' Who? became her first Arista album to be certified platinum. The album sold well over a million copies thanks to the hits "Freeway of Love", the title track, and "Another Night". The next year's Aretha album nearly matched this success with the hit singles "Jumpin' Jack Flash", "Jimmy Lee" and "I Knew You Were Waiting for Me", her international number-one duet with George Michael. During that period, Franklin provided vocals to the theme songs of the TV shows A Different World and Together. In 1987, she issued her third gospel album, One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, which was recorded at her late father's New Bethel church, followed by Through the Storm in 1989. The same year, Franklin performed "America the Beautiful" at WWE's Wrestlemania III, the company's third annual "entertainment spectacular", in her home state of Michigan. Franklin's 1991 album, What You See is What You Sweat, flopped on the charts. She returned to the charts in 1993 with the dance song "A Deeper Love" and returned to the top 40 with the song "Willing to Forgive" in 1994.
In 1995, she was selected to play Aunt Em in the Apollo Theater revival of The Wiz. Franklin's final top 40 single was 1998's "A Rose Is Still a Rose". The album of the same name was released after the single. It sold in excess of 500,000 copies; earning a gold album.
That same year, Franklin received global praise after her 1998 Grammy Awards performance. She had initially been asked to come and perform in honor of the 1980 The Blues Brothers film in which she appeared with Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi. That evening after the show had already begun, Luciano Pavarotti himself contacted show producers and said he was too ill to perform the opera aria "Nessun dorma" as planned. The show's producers were desperate to fill the time slot, and approached Franklin with their dilemma. She was a friend of Pavarotti, and had sung the selection two nights prior at the annual MusiCares event. She asked to hear Pavarotti's rehearsal recording, and after listening, agreed that she could sing it in the tenor range that the orchestra was prepared to play in. Over one billion people worldwide saw the performance, and she received an immediate standing ovation. She would go on to record the selection, and perform it live several more times in the years to come; the last time being in Philadelphia for Pope Francis at the World Meeting of Families in September 2015. A small boy was so touched by her performance that he came onto the stage and embraced her while Franklin was still singing.
Her final Arista album, So Damn Happy, was released in 2003 and featured the Grammy-winning song "Wonderful". In 2004, Franklin announced that she was leaving Arista after more than 20 years with the label. To complete her Arista obligations, Franklin issued the duets compilation album Jewels in the Crown: All-Star Duets with the Queen in 2007. The following year, she issued the holiday album This Christmas, Aretha, on DMI Records. In February 2006 she performed "The Star-Spangled Banner" with Aaron Neville and Dr. John for Super Bowl XL, held in her hometown of Detroit.
Later years (2008–2018)
On January 20, 2009, Franklin made international headlines for performing "My Country, 'Tis of Thee" at President Barack Obama's inaugural ceremony with her church hat becoming a popular topic online. In 2010, Franklin accepted an honorary degree from Yale University. In 2011, under her own label, Aretha's Records, she issued the album Aretha: A Woman Falling Out of Love.
In 2014, Franklin was signed under RCA Records, controller of the Arista catalog and a sister label to Columbia via Sony Music Entertainment, and worked with Clive Davis. An album was planned with producers Babyface and Danger Mouse. On September 29, 2014, Franklin performed to a standing ovation, with Cissy Houston as backup, a compilation of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" on the Late Show with David Letterman. Franklin's cover of "Rolling in the Deep" was featured among nine other songs in her first RCA release, Aretha Franklin Sings the Great Diva Classics, released in October 2014. In doing so, she became the first woman to have 100 songs on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart with the success of her cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep", which debuted at number 47 on the chart.
In December 2015, Franklin gave an acclaimed performance of "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors during the section for honoree Carole King, who co-wrote the song. During the bridge of the song, Franklin dropped her fur coat to the stage, for which the audience rewarded her with a mid-performance standing ovation. She returned to Detroit's Ford Field on Thanksgiving Day 2016 to once again perform the national anthem before the game between the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions. Seated behind the piano, wearing a black fur coat and Lions stocking cap, Franklin gave a rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" that lasted more than four minutes and featured a host of improvizations. Franklin released the album A Brand New Me in November 2017 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, which uses archived recordings from Franklin. It peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Top Classical Albums chart before her death and rose to number 2 after her death.
While Franklin canceled some concerts in 2017 due to health reasons, and during an outdoor Detroit show, she asked the audience to "keep me in your prayers", she was still garnering highly favorable reviews for her skill and showmanship. At the Ravinia Festival on September 3, 2017, she gave her last full concert. Franklin's final performance was at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City during Elton John's 25th anniversary gala for the Elton John AIDS Foundation on November 7, 2017.
Music style and image
According to Richie Unterberger, Franklin was "one of the giants of soul music, and indeed of American pop as a whole. More than any other performer, she epitomized soul at its most gospel-charged". She had often been described as a great singer and musician due to "vocal flexibility, interpretive intelligence, skillful piano-playing, her ear, her experience". Franklin's voice was described as being a "powerful mezzo-soprano voice". She was praised for her arrangements and interpretations of other artists' hit songs. According to David Remnick, what "distinguishes her is not merely the breadth of her catalogue or the cataract force of her vocal instrument; it's her musical intelligence, her way of singing behind the beat, of spraying a wash of notes over a single word or syllable, of constructing, moment by moment, the emotional power of a three-minute song. 'Respect' is as precise an artifact as a Ming vase". Describing Franklin's voice as that of a youngster on her first album, Songs of Faith, released in 1956 when she was just 14, Jerry Wexler explained that it "was not that of a child but rather of an ecstatic hierophant". Critic Randy Lewis assessed her skills as a pianist as "magic" and "inspirational". Musicians and professionals alike such as Elton John, Keith Richards, Carole King, and Clive Davis were fans of her piano performances.
In 2015, then-President Barack Obama wrote the following regarding Franklin:
Nobody embodies more fully the connection between the African-American spiritual, the blues, R. & B., rock and roll — the way that hardship and sorrow were transformed into something full of beauty and vitality and hope. American history wells up when Aretha sings. That's why, when she sits down at a piano and sings 'A Natural Woman,' she can move me to tears — the same way that Ray Charles's version of 'America the Beautiful' will always be in my view the most patriotic piece of music ever performed — because it captures the fullness of the American experience, the view from the bottom as well as the top, the good and the bad, and the possibility of synthesis, reconciliation, transcendence.
Civil rights activism
From her time growing up in the home of a prominent African-American preacher to the end of her life, Franklin was immersed and involved in the struggle for civil rights and women's rights. She provided money for civil rights groups, at times covering payroll, and performed at benefits and protests. When Angela Davis was jailed in 1970, Franklin told Jet: "Angela Davis must go free ... Black people will be free. I've been locked up (for disturbing the peace in Detroit) and I know you got to disturb the peace when you can't get no peace. Jail is hell to be in. I'm going to see her free if there is any justice in our courts, not because I believe in communism, but because she's a Black woman and she wants freedom for Black people". Her songs "Respect" and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" became anthems of these movements for social change. Franklin and several other American icons declined to take part in performing at President Donald Trump's 2017 inauguration as a large-scale act of musical protest.
Franklin was also a strong supporter for Native American rights. She quietly and without fanfare supported Indigenous Peoples' struggles worldwide, and numerous movements that supported Native American and First Nation cultural rights.
Personal life
After being raised in Detroit, Franklin relocated in the 1960s to New York City, where she lived until moving to Los Angeles in the mid-1970s. She eventually settled in Encino, Los Angeles, where she lived until 1982. She then returned to the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, to be close to her ailing father and siblings. Franklin maintained a residence there until her death. Following an incident in 1984, she cited a fear of flying that prevented her from traveling overseas; she performed only in North America afterwards.
Franklin was the mother of four sons. She first became pregnant at the age of 12 and gave birth to her first child, named Clarence after her father, on January 28, 1955. The father was widely believed and reported to be "Donald Burk, a boy she knew from school"; however, in one of her handwritten wills discovered in 2019, Franklin revealed the father was Edward Jordan. On August 31, 1957, Franklin had a second child with Jordan, named Edward Derone Franklin after his father. Franklin did not like to discuss her early pregnancies with interviewers. Both children took her family name. While Franklin was pursuing her career and "hanging out with [friends]", Franklin's grandmother Rachel and sister Erma took turns raising the children. Franklin would visit them often. Franklin's third child, Ted White Jr., was born to Franklin and her then-husband Theodore "Ted" White in February 1964 and is known professionally as Teddy Richards. He provided guitar backing for his mother's band during live concerts. Her youngest son, Kecalf Cunningham, was born in April 1970 and is the child of her road manager Ken Cunningham.
Franklin was married twice. Her first husband was Ted White, whom she married in 1961 at the age of 19. Franklin had actually seen White the first time at a party held at her house in 1954. After a contentious marriage that involved domestic violence, Franklin separated from White in 1968 and divorced him in 1969. Franklin married her second husband, actor Glynn Turman, on April 11, 1978, at her father's church. By marrying Turman, Franklin became stepmother of Turman's three children from a previous marriage. Franklin and Turman separated in 1982 after Franklin returned to Michigan from California, and they divorced in 1984. In 2012, Franklin had plans to marry her longtime companion Willie Wilkerson. She and Wilkerson had been engaged twice before. Franklin eventually called off the 2012 engagement.
Franklin's sisters, Erma and Carolyn, were professional musicians and spent years performing background vocals on Franklin's recordings. Following Franklin's divorce from Ted White, her brother Cecil became her manager, and maintained that position until his death from lung cancer on December 26, 1989. Sister Carolyn died in April 1988 from breast cancer, while eldest sister Erma died from throat cancer in September 2002. Franklin's half-brother Vaughn died in late 2002. Her half-sister, Carol Kelley (née Jennings; born 1940), is C. L. Franklin's daughter by Mildred Jennings, a then 12-year-old congregant of New Salem Baptist Church in Memphis where C. L. was pastor.
Franklin was performing at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, on June 10, 1979, when her father, C. L., was shot twice at point-blank range in his Detroit home. After six months at Henry Ford Hospital while still in a coma, C. L. was moved back to his home with 24-hour nursing care. Aretha moved back to Detroit in late 1982 to assist with the care of her father, who died at Detroit's New Light Nursing Home on July 27, 1984.
Franklin's music business friends included Dionne Warwick, Mavis Staples, and Cissy Houston, who began singing with Franklin as members of the Sweet Inspirations. Houston sang background on Franklin's hit "Ain't No Way". Franklin first met Cissy's daughter, Whitney, in the early 1970s. She was made Whitney's honorary aunt (not a godmother as has been occasionally misreported), and Whitney often referred to her as "Auntie Ree". Franklin had to cancel plans to perform at Whitney Houston's memorial service on February 18, 2012, due to a leg spasm.
Franklin was a Christian and was a registered Democrat.
Health
Franklin had weight issues for many years. In 1974, she lost 40 pounds (18 kg) on a crash diet and maintained her new weight until the end of the decade. She again lost weight in the early 1990s, before gaining some back. A former chain smoker who struggled with alcoholism, she quit smoking in 1992. She admitted in 1994 that her smoking was "messing with my voice", but after quitting smoking she said later, in 2003, that her weight "ballooned".
In 2010, Franklin canceled a number of concerts to have surgery for an undisclosed tumor. Discussing the surgery in 2011, she quoted her doctor as saying that it would "add 15 to 20 years" to her life. She denied that the ailment had anything to do with pancreatic cancer, as had been reported. On May 19, 2011, Franklin had her comeback show at the Chicago Theatre. In May 2013, she canceled two performances because of an undisclosed medical treatment. Later the same month, she canceled two June concerts and planned to "resume her touring schedule in July". A show scheduled for July 27 in Clarkston, Michigan, was canceled due to continued medical treatment. She canceled an appearance at a Major League Baseball luncheon in Chicago honoring her commitment to civil rights on August 24 and also a performance on September 21 in Atlanta, Georgia. During a phone interview with the Associated Press in late August 2013, Franklin stated that she had had a "miraculous" recovery from her undisclosed illness but had to cancel shows and appearances until her health was at 100%, estimating she was about "85% healed". Franklin later returned to live performing, including a 2013 Christmas concert at Detroit's MotorCity Casino Hotel. She launched a multi-city tour in mid-2014, starting with a performance on June 14 in New York at Radio City Music Hall.
In February 2017, Franklin announced that 2017 would be her final year touring. However, she scheduled some 2018 concert dates, before cancelling them based on her physician's advice.
Death and funeral
On August 13, 2018, Franklin was reported to be gravely ill at her home in Riverfront Towers, Detroit. She was under hospice care and surrounded by friends and family. Stevie Wonder, Jesse Jackson and ex-husband Glynn Turman visited her on her deathbed. Franklin died at her home on August 16, 2018, aged 76, without a will. The cause of death was pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (pNET), though widely mis-reported as pancreatic cancer, a different disease. Numerous celebrities in the entertainment industry and politicians paid tribute to Franklin, including former U.S. president Barack Obama who said she "helped define the American experience". Civil rights activist and minister Al Sharpton called her a "civil rights and humanitarian icon".
A memorial service was held at New Bethel Baptist Church on August 19. Thousands then paid their respects during the public lying-in-repose at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. The August 31 Homegoing Service held at Greater Grace Temple in Detroit, included multiple tributes by celebrities, politicians, friends and family members and was streamed by some news agencies such as Fox News, CNN, The Word Network, BET and MSNBC. Among those who paid tribute to Aretha at the service were Ariana Grande, Bill Clinton, Rev. Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, Faith Hill, Fantasia, The Clark Sisters, Ronald Isley, Chaka Khan, Jennifer Holliday, Loretta Devine, Jennifer Hudson, Queen Latifah, Shirley Caesar, Stevie Wonder, Eric Holder, Gladys Knight, Cedric the Entertainer, Tyler Perry, Smokey Robinson, and Yolanda Adams. At her request she was eulogized by Rev. Jasper Williams Jr. of Salem Baptist Church in Atlanta, as Williams had eulogized her father as well as speaking at other family memorials. Williams's eulogy was criticized for being "a political address that described children being in a home without a father as 'abortion after birth' and said black lives do not matter unless blacks stop killing each other". Franklin's nephew Vaughan complained of Williams: "He spoke for 50 minutes and at no time did he properly eulogize her".
Following a telecast procession up Seven Mile Road, Franklin was interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit.
Legacy and honors
Franklin received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1979, had her voice declared a Michigan "natural resource" in 1985, and became the first woman inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences awarded her a Grammy Legend Award in 1991, then the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994. Franklin was a Kennedy Center Honoree in 1994, recipient of the National Medal of Arts in 1999, and was bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005. She was inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame in 2005, and the Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2015. Franklin became the second woman inducted to the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005. She was the 2008 MusiCares Person of the Year, performing at the Grammys days later. In 2019 she was awarded a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation "[f]or her indelible contribution to American music and culture for more than five decades." Franklin was the first individual woman to receive a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation.
In 2010 Franklin was ranked first on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" and ninth on their list of "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". Following news of Franklin's surgery and recovery in February 2011, the Grammys ceremony paid tribute to the singer with a medley of her classics performed by Christina Aguilera, Florence Welch, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride, and Yolanda Adams. That same year she was ranked 19th among the Billboard Hot 100 All-Time top artists.
When Rolling Stone listed the "Women in Rock: 50 Essential Albums" in 2002 and again 2012, it listed Franklin's 1967, "I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You", number one. Inducted to the GMA Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2012, Franklin was described as "the voice of the civil rights movement, the voice of black America" and a "symbol of black equality". Asteroid 249516 Aretha was named in her honor in 2014. In 2018, Franklin was inducted in to the Memphis Music Hall of Fame.
"American history wells up when Aretha sings", President Obama explained in response to her performance of "A Natural Woman" at the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors. "Nobody embodies more fully the connection between the African-American spiritual, the blues, R&B, rock and roll—the way that hardship and sorrow were transformed into something full of beauty and vitality and hope". Franklin later recalled the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors as one of the best nights of her life. On June 8, 2017, the City of Detroit honored Franklin's legacy by renaming a portion of Madison Street, between Brush and Witherell Streets, "Aretha Franklin Way". On January 29, 2018, Gary Graff confirmed that Jennifer Hudson will play Franklin in an upcoming biopic.
Honorary degrees
Franklin received honorary degrees from Harvard University and New York University in 2014, as well as honorary doctorates in music from Princeton University, 2012; Yale University, 2010; Brown University, 2009; University of Pennsylvania, 2007; Berklee College of Music, 2006; New England Conservatory of Music, 1997; and University of Michigan, 1987. She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Case Western Reserve University 2011 and Wayne State University in 1990 and an honorary Doctor of Law degree by Bethune–Cookman University in 1975.
Tributes
After Franklin's death, fans added unofficial tributes to two New York City Subway stations: the Franklin Street station in Manhattan, served by the 1 train, and the Franklin Avenue station in Brooklyn, served by the C and S trains. Both stations were originally named after other people. Although the fan tributes were later taken down, the subway system's operator, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, placed temporary black-and-white stickers with the word "Respect" next to the "Franklin" name signs in each station.
During the American Music Awards on October 9, 2018, the show was closed by bringing Gladys Knight, Donnie McClurkin, Ledisi, Cece Winans, and Mary Mary together to pay tribute to Aretha Franklin. The "all-star" group performed gospel songs, including renditions from Franklin's 1972 album, Amazing Grace.
A tribute concert, "Aretha! A Grammy Celebration for the Queen of Soul", was organized by CBS and The Recording Academy on January 13, 2019, at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. The concert included performances by Smokey Robinson, Janelle Monáe, Alicia Keys, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Celine Dion, Alessia Cara, Patti LaBelle, Jennifer Hudson, Chloe x Halle, H.E.R., SZA, Brandi Carlile, Yolanda Adams and Shirley Caesar, and was recorded for television, airing on March 10.
At the 61st Annual Grammy Awards, the ceremony was ended with a memorial tribute to the life and career of Franklin. It concluded with a rendition of her 1968 hit, "A Natural Woman (You Make Me Feel Like)," by Fantasia Barrino-Taylor, Andra Day and Yolanda Adams.
In other media
On February 10, 2019, it was announced that the subject of the third season of the American National Geographic anthology television series Genius would be Franklin, in the "first-ever, definitive scripted miniseries on the life of the universally acclaimed Queen of Soul". Filming is set to commence in mid-2019, for an early-2020 release.
Loss of materials
On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Aretha Franklin among hundreds of artists whose material was reportedly destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire.

Blue Buffalo vs Purina Pro Plan
https://www.centralparkpaws.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Purina-Pro-Plan-Savor-Adult-Shredded-Blend-chicken-rice-dog-food-brand-comparison.jpg When I was growing up, I never thought too much about what our family dog was eating.
I would go with my dad to pick up new bags of dog food at our local pet store every once and a while, but that was all I knew.
I figured that dogs ate the same brand of food for most of the lives, only changing things up when they entered the different life stages on the front of the dog bags.
Bringing home my own dog has been a life changing experience.
She’s gone through phases where certain types of food irritated her stomach and one even gave her an allergic reaction!
It’s not uncommon for dogs to change their dietary preferences and needs as they age, which is why I study the different brands that are out there.
Check out the research I found when I compared Blue Buffalo and Purina Pro Plan.
It might change your mind about which one you should feed your dog.

Purina’s history began in 1894, when William Danforth partnered with two other men to found the Robinson-Danforth Commission Company[1]. In 1902, the name was changed to Ralston Purina.
After working on their dog food blend for many years, its first major success was when it was fed to dogs on Admiral Richard E. Byrd’s Antarctic expedition in 1933[2].
The dogs were able to thrive even in the harshest conditions.
Since then, Purina has become one of the biggest brands in the dog food industry.
Best Sellers
Purina has many different lines of dog foods, but these are the top three Purina Pro Plan best sellers that people come back for again and again[3]:
Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind Adult 7+ Chicken and Rice Formula
Purina Pro Plan Focus Adult Large Breed Formula
Purina Pro Plan Focus Adult Sensitive Skin and Stomach, Lamb and Oatmeal Formula
While Purina sells Pro Plan blends for different life stages and breed sizes, their Bright Mind and Focus blends have particularly resonated with consumers.
This isn’t the first time we’ve compared Purina with another dog food company. How did Purina fare against IAMS?
Blue Buffalo’s Company History
People always say they’d do anything for their dog, and the Blue Buffalo founding family did exactly that.
When their dog, Blue, went for a check up at the vet and came back with a cancer diagnosis, the family dove into studying how they could optimize his nutrition.
This led to the creation of many different homemade blends, until they ended up with the one they liked.
Their BLUE Life Protection Formula became the foundation of their Blue Buffalo company.
Now, the company makes super premium pet food with only the best ingredients they can find, always calling back to the importance of natural nutrition for dogs.
Best Sellers
Blue Buffalo continues to improve on their original Life Protection Formula, which has made it the number one dog food in the country[4].
It has many different variations, which include their best selling products[5]:
BLUE Life Protection Formula Adult Chicken and Brown Rice Recipe
BLUE Life Protection Formula Adult Fish and Brown Rice Recipe
BLUE Life Protection Formula Puppy Chicken and Brown Rice Recipe
Given the Life Protection Formulas for all the life stages of a dog, these best selling products continue to meet the needs of many dog owners.
Blue Buffalo is a popular brand. But, is it the best? We tested Blue Buffalo against Fromm!
Recalls
Both of these brands have been around for many years, so they’ve each had a few recalls that potential consumers should be aware of.
Purina Recalls
Purina’s dog food was last recalled in March of 2016, since some of the wet dog food was lacking the right mineral and vitamin levels[6].
They were also recalled in 2013 for a potential salmonella contamination[7].
Blue Buffalo Recalls
Blue Buffalo most recently faced a recall in March of 2017, since further studies revealed toxic levels of lead in some of their wet dog food[8].
Over the last six years, they’ve also been recalled for having high levels of vitamin D[9], dangerous levels of mold[10], the presence of salmonella[11], and chunks of aluminum metal[12] in their dog foods.
What’s Important When Choosing a Dog Food?
Now that dog owners can see what food is available at pet stores and online, there’s a lot to choose from.
Here’s what you should consider before bringing any dog food home:
Many dog foods contain chicken. But, is all chicken equal?
Ingredients
Does your dog have any allergies or sensitivities?
Are you concerned about them eating only fresh ingredients?
Every dog owner should look at the ingredients listed on a dog food bag to see what their dog would actually be eating if they purchased it.
Price
How much are you willing to spend for a higher quality food?
Consider what your dog food budget is and how often you’ll be buying new dog food to determine what the best price is for you.
Availability
Some towns don’t have many pet stores for owners to visit, and some people may not be able to get deliveries at their home.
Make sure to check where you can get the dog food you’re thinking about purchasing for your dog to figure out its availability.
Taste
You’ll want to read online about what other dogs think about the food and even give your pup a taste test before fully committing to a brand.
Dogs shouldn’t have to eat food every day that they hate just because it fits a budget or is easy to find.
Brand Reliability
Once you’ve found the brands you like, research them.
You may find that they face frequent recalls or make some dogs sick, which won’t be something you’ll find out just by looking at the bag at a store.
Comparison of Purina vs Blue Buffalo
So how do these two brands stack up against each other?
Let’s find out.
Ingredients
  Winner: Blue Buffalo
While I like that Purina is trusted by so many dog owners, I’m not so sure about their ingredients.
On the list for their first big best seller bag, one of the first ingredients is “poultry by-product meal”[13].
I looked it up and apparently by-product meal is when they grind up cleaned parts of a chicken carcass[14], which often contains things like undeveloped eggs and bones.
That’s supposed to make the food have a higher level of protein, but I would never let Maggie chew on a chicken carcass.
Why let it be in her dog food?
Blue Buffalo has many more recognizable ingredients on the list for their best-selling blend[15].
Blue Buffalo, on the other hand…
I’m not a fan of the second product being chicken meal, but that’s different from by-product meal.
Chicken meal is a combination of chicken flesh and skin that isn’t originally used in the food[16]. It’s cooked and ground up to add more protein.
Blue Buffalo wins the ingredients round for me.
It just doesn’t feel right to imagine feeding my dog powdered chicken carcasses.
Price/Value
  Winner: Purina…?
Something every dog owner knows is that Blue Buffalo is expensive, but their prices are becoming much more competitive with other brands.
Purina’s specialty offerings are more expensive, but still not as expensive as Blue Buffalo
They average out at $50 per 25 pound bag[17].
On the other hand, Purina’s 20 pound bags are typically around $15-20[18], depending on where you’re looking.
That price is so low, it actually concerns me.
It makes me wonder how many fillers are actually in their food.
I’m used to paying $45-50 per bag of food for Maggie, so I’d much rather stick with Blue Buffalo’s price.
It’s much more than Purina, but it makes more sense to me to put my money with the food that uses fresh, whole ingredients.
Availability
  Winner: Tie
These are both big brands, so they’re available at most pet stores and online.
That makes it easy for people to restock their dog food even on their busiest days, so they tie in availability.
Shop Blue Buffalo on Amazon
Shop Blue Buffalo on Chewy
Shop Purina Pro Plan on Amazon
Shop Purina Pro Plan on Chewy
Taste
  Winner: Depends
It’s always really up to your dog to decide whether the dog food brand is a keeper.
If they like the taste of the food, it may be worth it to stick with the brand.
Brand Reliability
  Winner: Purina
Purina has less of a history with recalls than Blue Buffalo does, so that may sway some dog owners into becoming their customers.
But both have had recalls on wet dog food, so that should be considered by any dog owners who need to get wet food for their dog.
Winner
  Winner: Blue Buffalo
While price and availability are huge influences on which dog food brands people buy, this comparison came down to ingredients for me.
It really concerns me that Purina has by-product meal in their food and that their food is so cheap.
I don’t want Maggie eating fillers every day, which is why I’d go with Blue Buffalo before I’d ever buy Purina.
Think about all these factors for yourself before deciding which brand you should buy for your dog.

Jan-Michael Vincent, who starred in such action fare as The Mechanic, White Line Fever and TV's Airwolf before a raft of personal problems and illness sent him on a downward spiral, has died. He was 73.
Vincent died Feb. 10 of cardiac arrest at Mission Hospital's Memorial Campus in Asheville, North Carolina, according to his death certificate obtained by The Hollywood Reporter.
Vincent had a very public battle with drug and alcohol abuse and his career was already on the wane when he was drunk and involved in a 1996 car accident in Mission Viejo, California, that broke his neck and damaged his vocal cords.
Twelve years later, Vincent was in another car crash, then contracted an infection that led to two sections of his right leg being amputated. He spent his final years broke and living in the South.
Things were much different in the mid-1970s, when Vincent was poised on the cusp of superstardom. A chiseled heartthrob with a mane of flowing hair, he capitalized on his hunky image by appearing shirtless in photos and on the big screen, and the agent who discovered him also discovered James Dean.
Vincent portrayed up-and-coming characters in Michael Winner's The Mechanic (1972), as the too-ambitious protege of contract killer Charles Bronson; in Vigilante Force (1976), as Kris Kristofferson’s brother; and in Hooper (1978), as a stuntman mentored by Burt Reynolds.
Vincent also starred as a popular high school jock opposite Joan Goodfellow in the tragic love story Buster and Billie (1974), directed by Daniel Petrie, played the rebel trucker Carrol Jo Hummer in the violent White Line Fever (1975), and went along with being mistaken for a Marine Corps hero in Baby Blue Marine (1976).
After a bit of a career lull, the blue-eyed Vincent played naval officer Robert Mitchum's black-sheep son and wooed Ali MacGraw on the acclaimed ABC 1983 miniseries The Winds of War, adapted from Herman Wouk's best-selling work of 1930s fiction.
He then was cast as Stringfellow Hawke — the pilot of a high-tech, CIA-created Bell 222 helicopter and the brother of a missing Vietnam vet — on Airwolf, created by TV action maestro Donald P. Bellisario. The series, which also starred Ernest Borgnine, aired from 1984-86, and Vincent at the time was among the highest-paid actors on television.
But with all his troubles, his career would never be the same after Airwolf.
"He had tremendous natural ability, and that was his curse," David Grove, author of the 2016 book Jan-Michael Vincent: Edge of Greatness, said in a January 2017 podcast interview with Phil Hall. "When you are born with natural ability, there's a tendency to get by on that. It's like a well; when it's dry, there's nothing left, because you've never worked to build that foundation."
Vincent was born in Adams, Colorado, on July 15, 1945, and raised in Hanford, California, about 30 miles south of Fresno. His father, a bomber pilot in World War II, owned a sign-painting business.
Vincent graduated from Hanford High School in 1963, went to Ventura College in Southern California when he wasn't surfing and served with the National Guard. He then met Dick Clayton — who had discovered Dean, Lee Majors, Tuesday Weld and many others — and the talent agent got the virile youngster into the training program at Universal Studios.
In 1967, Vincent was in a Hardy Boys TV movie and made his movie debut opposite Robert Conrad in the Mexico-set The Bandits. A year later, he guest-starred on Lassie and Bonanza, appeared in Universal's Journey to Shiloh and was a regular on Danger Island, a serial that ran on Saturday mornings on The Banana Splits Adventure Hour.
After working opposite John Wayne and Rock Hudson in The Undefeated (1969) and playing Lana Turner's son in the short-lived ABC drama The Survivors, Vincent won notice when he played a hippie-type Marine opposite Darren McGavin in the 1970 ABC telefilm Tribes.
He then played Mitchum's son for the first time in Going Home (1971).
In his '70s heyday, Vincent also starred as a Tarzan-like character in Disney's The World’s Greatest Athlete (1973) and appeared in the well regarded endurance horse race actioner Bite the Bullet (1975). He also toplined the post-apocalyptic Damnation Alley (1977), and in John Milius' Big Wednesday (1978), he played a self-destructive surfer, a role perhaps too close to home.
Vincent reportedly was Universal's choice to portray oceanographer Matt Hooper in Jaws (1975), but Steven Spielberg went with the more-nerdy Richard Dreyfuss instead. (The character was a studly guy in the Peter Benchley best-seller on which the movie is based.)
Vincent appeared in Buffalo '66 (1998), but most of his final efforts were lower-budget actioners and thrillers, many of which went straight to video.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia.
Duane Byrge contributed to this report.

★“I want the world to know how good a photographer Salman is. He made me look rather handsome,”-Sunil Grover !
Sunil Grover: I also grew up around cows and buffaloes
Natasha Coutinho | Sep 7, 2018
Sunil Grover on why Vishal Bhardwaj’s next didn’t require much prep apart from the dialect and why he won’t be on TV till at least Jan 2019.
Around this time last year, Sunil Grover was waiting for a controversy to die down, so he could get on with his life. In April this year, it emerged that the actor-comedian, who walked out of Kapil Sharma’s eponymous comedy show following a particularly fiery altercation in March 2017, has signed two big films.
He is a part of Ali Abbas Zafar’s Salman Khan-starrer Eid 2019 release, Bharat, and Vishal Bhardwaj’s comedy-drama, Pataakha. And while he has worked in other big-ticket projects — the actor played Shraddha Kapoor’s father in Sabbir Khan’s Baaghiand had a brief turn in Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar is Back — Sunil is grateful for the opportunity to work with Bhardwaj “so early on in my career”.
“It was a long-cherished dream. I was very happy when I got a call for this film though I didn’t express my excitement on the phone. It’s an important character and I love the artistic way in which the story has been told,” Sunil says about his character in Pataakha, the curiously christened Dipper Naradmuni, who takes up a different job every day – one day he’s a vegetable seller, the next, he has a sari store in a mela, then, you see him selling lottery tickets.
The film, with Sanya Malhotra and TV actress Radhika Madan as the protagonists, tells the story of two warring sisters and is set in rural Rajasthan. Sunil says he identified with the setting as he was raised in the small town of Mandi Dabwali, which is in the Sirsa district of Haryana. “I grew up around cows and buffaloes in my home and my dadi’s house. You never knew when the cow will lash out to you with its swishing tail. There were times when I would get ready in a white uniform and land up in school with it splattered with brown patches,” he recalls with a laugh, adding that the shooting made him nostalgic.
I want the world to know how good a photographer Salman is. He made me look rather handsome.
The film came with another set of challenges for him. “I had to learn the Rajasthani-Marwari dialect and even though it is similar to Hindi, the way you pronounce certain words is different. I found it difficult to remember some of the words on the first three-four days of the shoot, but it was smooth sailing then on,” he informs.
Moving on to Ali Abbas Zafar’s period drama, Bharat, which also features Katrina Kaif, Disha Patani, Tabu and Jackie Shroff in pivotal roles, has him playing Salman Khan’s friend. During the recently concluded Malta schedule of the film, Sunil shared a picture of the film’s leading man clicking him. “That was Salman’s idea and came out of nowhere. I haven’t shared the best pictures yet because it would reveal my look in the film, but I will in due time. I want the world to know how good a photographer Salman is. He made me look rather handsome,” the actor smiles. He reunites with the film’s team in Abu Dhabi for the next schedule which kicks off by the month-end.
What about his TV commitments? The actor assures that there are no plans to quit television even though he will be seen less on TV till December-January because of his film schedules. Recent reports claim Kapil Sharma and Krushna Abhishek are coming together for a comedy show. Will he join them? “It’s not possible with my current schedule. I’m not saying I won’t do TV, it’s just that my dates are with Bharat till January so I can’t do regular TV shows for now,” Sunil signs off.

Blue Buffalo vs Fromm
https://www.centralparkpaws.net/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/519Mf59Ta9L.jpg Whether you’re looking to switch up your dog’s food or not, I think it’s always a good idea to know what’s available on the dog food market.
You never know when you might discover something that could be a healthier option for your dog.
For Maggie’s sake, I like to research the companies that have the most popular dog food blends.
In today’s market, that means Blue Buffalo and Fromm are major brands to be aware of.
Check out what I’ve learned about both brands and how they compare to each other.
You’ll learn which may be better for your dog and what stands out about each company.
Fromm’s Company History
Buying quality dog food is what’s most important for every dog owner, which is why Fromm was started five generations ago by the Nieman family.
Still run by the family today, Fromm cooks grains and meats together during the baking process for all their dog food blends[1].
This makes their dog food a true blend of kibble rather than a mix of ingredients that are thrown in together at the end.
Best Sellers
The blending baking process means that Fromm has more room to experiment with different grains and meats.
These kitchen experiments have resulted in many different kinds of blends that ended up being best sellers[2]. Some consumer favorites are:
Fromm Classic Adult Dog Food
Fromm Beef Frittata Veg Recipe Dog Food
Fromm Puppy Gold Dog Food
What may help make their food popular bestsellers is how they name them.
Instead of calling a flavor by the beef or chicken that it’s made of, Fromm names their kibble like it’s all on a doggy menu.
It makes the kibble and the brand much more appealing to consumers.
Curious how Fromm stacks up against other dog food brands? Check out our comparisons between Fromm and Acana or Orijen!
Blue Buffalo’s Company History
Blue Buffalo’s history tugs at my heartstrings.
When the founding family’s dog, Blue, got sick with cancer, they decided to be more proactive with his care than just taking him for treatment.
They investigated how a dog’s nutrition can help his health and came up with a kibble blend specifically to help Blue through his diagnosis[3].
Today, they sell their BLUE Life Protection Formula to dog owners around the world, so all dogs have the chance to receive optimal nutrition.
Best Sellers
While they have many different kinds of dog food, their BLUE Life Protection Formula is the top selling dog food in the country[4]. That’s why they’ve created different versions of the formula, so every dog can try it out.
Some of their best selling products include:
BLUE Life Protection Formula Adult Chicken and Brown Rice Recipe
BLUE Wilderness Nature’s Evolutionary Diet with Chicken
BLUE Life Protection Formula Small Breed Chicken and Brown Rice Recipe
I love that there’s a protection formula blend for dogs at all life stages, so your dog can grow up on the same kind of food and enjoy the different flavors.
You can find a more in-depth review of the Blue Buffalo brand here!
Recalls
As popular as these dog brands are, recalls are inevitable.
This is especially true when massive brands have so many different kinds of food being produced at the same time. Before you buy any dog food, always check to see what kind of recalls a company has had, and how many.
As far as recalls go, this one was relatively benign!
Fromm
Fromm has a relatively clean recent history.
In 2016, they issued a recall on their Gold canned foods[5]. The canned foods were found to have levels of minerals and vitamins that were so low, dogs wouldn’t actually benefit.
They adjusted the food as needed and continued producing it.
Blue Buffalo
Blue Buffalo has had quite a few more recalls in the past six years.
They issued recalls for chunks of aluminum metal[6], traces of salmonella[7], high levels of vitamin D[8], and even mold being present in food[9]. In 2017, toxic levels of lead were also found in their wet dog food[10].
What’s Important When Choosing a Dog Food?
Now that you know more about these two brands, here are some factors you should consider before choosing what your dog will eat.
Ingredients
Dogs with sensitivities will need their ingredients to be specific to their needs.
Owners should also look for ingredients that don’t contain fillers or chemicals, which bulk up cheaper food but aren’t actually good for your dog.
If only your dog could get a job to pay for its own food instead of lazing about!
Price
Consider your long term budget for dog food.
Figure out what’s best for you, given how often you’ll have to restock.
Also, be aware that cheaper dog foods are the ones that will have the lower quality ingredients.
Availability
You don’t want to get stuck having to buy your dog’s food at a high end boutique on the other end of town for a higher price.
Make sure that whichever food you pick is available in a place that’s easy to reach or can be delivered to your home.
Taste
Your dog may be the kind to go nuts on a full bowl of food, but they should still enjoy the taste of what they’re eating.
Read reviews on each brand to see how other dogs are reacting to the food to gauge if your dog will like it or not.
You can also see if the new brand has a flavor similar to what they’re currently eating.
Brand Reliability
Dog’s can’t change food easily, because their stomachs can get very upset if that happens too quickly.
They’ll probably stick with their food for a while, so make sure you can rely on whichever brand you buy from for quality food in the long term.
Comparison of Fromm vs Blue Buffalo
So how do these two brands compare to each other? Read on to find out some key factors about each of their products.
Ingredients
  Winner: Tie
Both companies say they use only the best ingredients, but is that true? A closer look at the ingredients list will tell.
One of Fromm’s best sellers (Gold Adult Small Breed) lists duck as their first ingredient, which is great.
That means that’s what makes up most of the food. However, their second ingredient is “chicken meal,”[11] which is basically an all-natural filler that’s created by grinding up chicken flesh and skin[12].
Blue Buffalo has almost the exact same issue.
They have many recognizable ingredients[13] in their best selling blend, but their second ingredient is “chicken meal.”
Again, it’s different than the traditional by-product meal filler, but it’s surprising to see these quality brands not have at least a few more whole ingredients first.
Price/Value
  Winner: Fromm
Some of Fromm’s fancier offerings are more expensive, though
Blue Buffalo, while being a major player in the quality dog food world, adds up to about $2 per pound.
That’s pretty standard, which means they’re actively trying to feed dogs healthy food at prices that many owners can afford.
Fromm is even more affordable. Their bags average $1.67 per pound.
This could be the better option for dog owners on a tighter budget, while still avoiding all the traditional chemicals and fillers in other mainstream brands.
Availability
  Winner: Blue Buffalo
This wolf has stared at me from many different stores
Both brands are available online, so it’ll be easy to order a bag and have it shipped to your home no matter which brand you prefer.
If you’d rather pick up your dog’s food in person, it’ll be easier to find Blue Buffalo.
Fromm is more likely to be found at specialty pet stores, instead of the major chain brands where most dog owners shop.
Also, while you can find both Fromm and Blue Buffalo on Amazon, you can find only Blue Buffalo on Chewy.
Taste
  Winner: Tie
There are many posts online that say dogs enjoy the taste of both Blue Buffalo and Fromm.
You’ll have to let your dog try them out too.
Stick with the same flavor they enjoy now and try to buy the smallest bag possible at first, in case your dog doesn’t enjoy the brand you get.
Brand Reliability
  Winner: Fromm
Blue Buffalo has had many more recalls on their dog food than Fromm, which would make me trust Fromm more.
The longer a brand can go without a recall, the more comfortable I feel about buying their dog food.
Overall Winner
  Winner: Fromm
After comparing these two brands, Fromm is the winner for me.
It’s more budget friendly and the company rarely has recalls.
That’s more important to me than going to a specialty pet store to purchase a bag in person, although depending on where you live, that could be the deciding factor for you.
Weigh the options that these brands present to figure out which one is better for your dog.
You’ll be able to make a decision that you know is researched, so your dog will be eating the best food possible.
