Eddie hummed. “Yeah, he has been going a little overboard lately. Yesterday he offered to massage my feet. I fail to see how that could help me with my studies.” Adriana laughed. “Just let the guy dote on you a little Eddie. You deserve it.”

Knowledge of Star Trek is not necessary to read, understand and enjoy this story. To anyone who might want to skip this fic in fear that they won’t be able to follow the story-line. Do not worry, Star Trek characters will not appear in this fic. The ST-universe is only the backdrop for the 9-1-1 characters to play in. So go ahead, give it a try if you want. :)

Buddie Moodboard - Star Trek AU

I apologize in advance for the weirdass manips. I just wanted Buck and Eddie and some of the team in Starfleet uniform, okay??? My need was mighty, the skillz not as much! Also, I will blame my endless number of rewatches of Next Generation and Voyager for the sheer need to buddiefy this. So yeah, buckle up, ladies, this will be a wild ride through space! Brrrrrrr!

Captain Nash actually never wanted to return to active duty after he lost his family on the spaceship under his command. Yet, he answered the call of duty, only to find a crew close to family (despite his initial resistance) and his now wife Athena onboard the USS Enterprise.

Lieutenant Evan "Buck" Buckley is none too pleased when a new crewman joins him in the ranks. The guy is just fresh off the Academy and is supposed to work side-by-side with him. Buck had to work his way up, and he feels like this Lieutenant Eddie Diaz is just full of himself, wanting to take his spot in his home, among his found family.

Well, turns out he may be a bit wrong about that. Buck sometimes jumps to conclusions, fine, but on a mission, him listening to his gut may have saved his team and him a good number of times. After the initial animosities, Buck and Eddie don't just develop an astounding synchrony on the job but an even more outstanding friendship.

Eddie struggles with his decision to be on a Starfleet ship after his wife left him and Christopher. His parents were very much against the idea, deeming it too dangerous for his son. But Eddie is determined that he can both pursue his dream and help people while also being there for his son. Nonetheless, he feels like failing more often than not.

Though Buck proves to be a saving grace by introducing Eddie to Carla, who also works at the 118 Forward to serve not just drinks but words of wisdom. Alongside the capable staff Eddie dares to rely on more than he did in the beginning, he can work a lot more easily. And Christopher seems to be thriving.

Yet, that is of course only part of their daily jobs as Starfleet officers. While on their missions, they discover strange yet fascinating new life forms and gain insights into species they may only know from a very limited perspective, all the while struggling to survive in the endlessness of space.

One particular mission takes a twist for worse. Someone from Bobby's past comes back, determined to make him pay for what happened to him in the past. In the end, it leaves them with a ship on the verge of destruction and Buck critically injured. While he thankfully recovers from the leg injury under Hen's ministration as fast as possible, there are complications preventing him from returning to active duty.

Buck, who has since defined himself as a Starfleet officer, is struggling with his place on the ship. If he can't be an officer anymore, what is he supposed to do on the Enterprise? Who is he supposed to be if not the daring Lieutenant Evan "Buck" Buckley?

Eddie won't leave his best friend hanging, though. Instead of letting Buck wallow in his insecurities and pity, he makes him take care of Christopher. After all, he hopes that this will show Buck that he has so much more than his job. And Eddie hopes just as much that this will be enough for Buck to get out of that dark place he currently finds himself in.

Or rather, he hopes that he is enough. He wasn't enough when it came to Shannon, after all...

Crisis strikes only a short while later, though, when a hive of Borg cubes strikes an attack. While they manage to fend off the aggressors without them taking over the ship. The planet they are currently orbiting for means of negotiation and restocking their supplies didn't get as lucky, though.

The crew heads out to offer help after the attack. Eddie is in for the shock of his life when a woman rushes up to him with his son in her arms. After all, he and Buck were supposed to have fun on the holodeck. Christopher is inconsolable. He talked Buck into taking him to the planet to have a look around, only for the Borg to nearly take him, had Buck not saved him, which resulted in him being taken instead of Christopher.

Determined to get their crewman back, they rush after the Borg cubes that retreated from the planet, no matter the costs. Onboard one of the Borg cubes, Buck is being transformed into a drone of the hive. Despite his struggles, he finds himself succumbing to this feeling of never being alone.

The rescue mission ultimately proves to be successful, despite the high stakes and risks, but that is only the beginning. While they manage to get Buck out of the cube and disconnect him from the hive, Buck still thinks like Borg, is Borg, as he will insist.

Even seeing Christopher doesn't bring him back. Instead, Buck seems to have been pushed far away in his mind, leaving a drone perceiving itself as only "Second of Three" instead of Evan "Buck" Buckley.

Everyone is determined to get him back, despite the dangers it entails. While Hen and Chim rush to remove the implants and nanoprobes, the rest do their best to revive Buck's memories and bring him back home. Physically as well as mentally.

Buck, driven to reconnect with the hive, nearly manages to highjack the ship, but is stopped at the very last minute by a very brave boy who won't give up on his Buck. Despite the Borg instincts telling him to attack Christopher, Buck manages to resist the impulse and regain some amount of control - if only to knock himself out to prevent further damage.

Eventually, the programming can be reversed and Buck is Buck again. Even though he doesn't feel like it. If he struggled due to the injury, he is in straight-up dread after he was part of the Borg Collective. The nanoprobes healed him, thus enabling him to be an officer of the Starfleet again, but the knowledge how far he went as part of the Collective and how much a part of him wanted to never be alone again as part of the hive, make him doubt he can ever be an officer again.

Eddie is nothing but supportive, not just out of a sense of duty for saving his son and companionship, but actually something that's been burgeoning between the two for longer than they'd ever care to admit. While Buck staying at their quarters to make him feel less alone at night helps some, Eddie understands that doesn't solve all problems.

Their Captain views it the same way and recommends that Buck should take his time to figure out what he wants to be next, and discover (again) who he is. While Buck is less than enthusiastic, he knows things can't stay the way they are. Thus, he stays at the next deep space station instead of joining the crew on the new mission they were assigned.

Working together with Dr. Copeland, Buck gains a clearer picture not just on who he is but also who he wants to be and where he wants to be. And truthfully, there is just one place he could ever call home. When news reach him that the Enterprise is under attack, Buck highjacks the next-best space shuttle and rushes to return to his family.

But will the crew make it out of this mission alive, or have they been testing the powers of the universe one time too many already?

♣️ The Space Between Sleep by Tattered_Dreams (Complete)

As weeks pass after the Tsunami, Christopher has Eddie to help him deal with the scars it left behind. He also has Buck. Buck's dealing with his own demons, but he has both of them.

Eddie's trying to keep them all together and finding out his family might not be as small as he thought.

The 118 have their few cents to add, too, because don't they always.

This is one of my favorite Buddie fics. It deals with the aftermath of the tsunami in a way that is absolutely beautiful and realistic and authentic. Christopher and Buck's relationship, and Eddie and Christopher's relationship are perfection. A thing I also really love is that it's not just a Buddie fic, it has the firefam, Maddie and Eddie'sfamily involved in a way that's just natural.

A captain, his ship, her crew, and a secret with the power to ruin it all.

When his merchant transport vessel is boarded by the fearsome Captain Nash and the crew of the Spark, Eddie believes his time has come.

Buckck makes him an offer he can't refuse, and he finds himself tangled up in something much bigger than he planned for.

I have never read a pirate AU fic. I have never been interested in reading a pirate AUs. But this one changed my mind. The storytelling is amazing. This author paints images with their words, and they have built an amazing, nuanced world here. With every chapter, a question is answered, and a few arise, but it's handled so well you won't be impatient and confused half the time. The friendships, the relationships, here are beyond amazing too.

♣️ Tethers by red-to-black (@redtooblack) (WIP)

Eddie's spent years trying to find a place to call home with Christopher, hoping that Shannon will come back and then desperately hoping she wouldn't. He thinks he's in the clear when she shows up at his doorstep, demanding they get back together.

Eddie comes up with a foolproof plan: get a fake boyfriend, convince Shannon he's gay, and live happily ever after with his life mostly intact and Christopher safe and happy. Get rid of fake boyfriend when Shannon gives up, and life can resume as normal.

Enter Buck, and the plan goes to hell in a handbasket.

Where do I start with this fic? First of all, it's fake dating- which is a trope I love. But it's so, so much more than that. It shows both Eddie and Buck fighting their demons, and being good for each other. It shows two adults navigating a relationship in both a healthy and realistic way. The author incorporates Canon in this fic in an amazing, seamless way. Christopher and Buck's relationship in this is perfection. I have reread this fic about five times. Tempted to reread again, ngl.

Eddie, Buck, and Christopher figuring out how to be a family.

This series has two amazing sickfics and one WIP that shows how the team, and Buddie specifically, handle the pandemic. I love these works a lot, they're always in character, always realistic and tender, and Buck and Christopher's relationship shines through, as does the love between the Diaz boys.

❄ The Ghosts That You Haunt by JessicaMDawn

The first time Evan Buckley died, he was ten.

"Apparently that won me a ticket to ghost town, because I've been seeing them ever since."

Buck can see the recently dead. It's not as glamorous as people might think.

This AU is wonderful. It's not the typical character can see ghosts fics. It's so very emotional and angsty and it hits all the right spots. Buck is such an amazing character here. The emotions are vivid and beautiful and realistic. I LOVE it.

❄ Scratch and Burn by JessicaMDawn

Christopher scratches Buck during the tsunami, but the rest of the debris hurts a lot more and Buck thinks nothing of it. The next day, however, Buck experiences a lot of changes that he doesn't know how to handle. Luckily, Eddie is there to help him through it.

Not ABO. This Werewolf AU is perfection. I love Buck's relationship with both Eddie and Christopher here. I won't say more to not spoil it, but it truly is wonderful.

After getting hurt on a call, Buck wakes up thinking it's 2018. AKA Buck can't remember who Eddie is but he's pretty sure everyone's lying when they say they're "just friends."

This fic is nothing short of perfection. Amnesia fics require a very delicate balance, and this one managed that perfectly. Misunderstandings, oblivious idiots in love, it has it all. The firedam's relationships with Buck is amazing, and they shine through here.

Whipping his head around, his eyes land on a face he hasn’t seen up close in almost a year.

“Eddie?” he gasps in disbelief, taking in the sight of Eddie’s rumpled appearance. His shirt is ripped, Buck can see scrapes on his forearms where his sleeves are pushed up, and he’s got a nasty gash across his forehead, blood trickling down into his eyebrow. But he’s looking at Buck like he’s a prayer and a miracle all wrapped into one. “Eddie!”

His brain finally catches up with his legs and he rushes forward just as Eddie all but collapses into his embrace.

“Thank god,” Eddie heaves out raggedly, fingers clutched tightly in the back of Buck’s turnout coat.

I absolutely love this concept of Eddie replacing Abby on the train. This fic is sweet, cute and emotional. The characters are all spot on and just- it's AMAZING.

This series is a study in perfect pacing. It has pining, it has Eddie exploring his relationship with faith and it is possibly the perfect scenario for how these two can get together.

It gave me a cathartic chance to fill in this missing scene as well as air a bit of grief for how harshly Taylor dealt with Buck, telling him he’s a shit friend, despite teh fact that three seconds later she calls him for help which is something we all do to shit friends, right...? The Damned Disgrace

Summary: When Maddie is kidnapped by the infamous Commodore Douglas of the Royal Navy, Evan Buckley and her lover Chimney Han enlist the help of the only crew that dares to go against him: The Damned Disgrace, led by the fearless and terrifying Captain Robert Nash.First impressions are leery though. Captain Nash's first mate, Eddie Diaz, takes an instant dislike to Buck, doubting his motives and his ability to be of any use to the Disgrace's crew.

There aren’t a huge amount of us Buddie Pirate AU lovers, but this is still my indulgent fic for that AU because it works really well, and I truly believe that the firefam and buddie fits well in most scenarios like a ship (lolz). It also gives me a place to indulge my love for an au where Sharon hasn’t died, where Lena is still around and they are both in love with each other. I’ll update this one as often as I can!

Florist AU and Secon Love AU. Ooo I love this so much yes!

Okay so Bobby moves to LA for a fresh start sometime after his family dies and opens up a shop that's a mix between a flower shop on one part and a store that sells organic produce that's all grown in the big garden behind the shop.

The first time Athena enters the store is on official police business. The law practice two doors down in the same block calls in for a noise complaint. Turns out, all of Bobby's chickens in the back that he has for fresh eggs ran out and was running all over the place causing chaos. Athena arrives and Bobby quickly hands her one of the chickens he caught so he can quickly get another. Let's just say their first meeting doesn't go quite well. Especially since Athena was already annoyed just got handed her divorce papers from Michael that day. But before she leaves, feeling bad, Bobby decides to give her a bouquet of flowers free of charge for thanking her to help. At first she refuses but then accepts when he gives Athena her favorite flowers with her having to tell him. "It's a gift." He says.

The next time she visits the shop, is after her best friend Hen has her new doctor's office next door after Athena had saw that the space was for lease the first time she was at the flower shop. She comes with May before visiting Hen so she can buy her flowers for her new office space. When May is delighted to see the natural flirtation between her mom and the florist as they banter back and forth about what would be the best flowers for an office building (her mom would debate with a florist about flowers) she decides to do some matchmaking. So she interrupts their conversation as May asks if they can hire Bobby to the flower arrangements for sweet sixteen that was coming up in about a month. "I didn't even know you wanted flower arrangements." Athena says, eyeing her daughter suspiciously. May shrugs. "Now I do."

Once they both accept, May then adds that she wants to make it really elaborate so she'd want to come over a lot to go over the different designs. When they agree, she then asks Athena that since she'd be busy with school if Athena could go over the designs with Bobby. She's suspicious of her daughter and is about to protest when Bobby adds that he wouldn't mind so she accepts. His employee, Buck, then quickly asks where is the party being held. "At my house." Athena answers rarely. "Perfect!" He exclaims but then clears his throat and explains that maybe Bobby should visit her house "for research purposes" to help him decide on which flowers would be the best "you know, for the aesthetic." Bobby gives him a looks that roughly translates to "cut it off" but Athena just smirks and agrees.

"You should exchange numbers to decide a date." May suggests with a bright smile. Athena rolls her eyes bc her daughter is many things but subtly is not one of them.

After they exchange numbers and make their plans, a few days later Bobby arrives to "survey the house's aesthetic". What Athena didn't know was that May had ordered food from her favorite restaurant which not only conveniently arrived just shortly after Bobby did, but had his favorite meal as well as Athena's. They both then admit that they knew were being set up and laugh about it both apologize for their kids obviously working together for trying to make it happen. Athena is honest and tells him that she's just gotten off from a divorce and tried a few dates but just wasn't ready. To which he tells her that he completely understands and feels the same way. "Divorce?" She asks. "No." He looks away. "Widowerer."

He gets a far away look in his eyes and after she says her condolences Athena tries to soothe the mood and offers for them to still eat the meal since it was there and their favorite meals. She offers for them to just have a nice, professional meal without having it to be anything.

They end up making out on the couch like a couple of teenagers. (After the delicious meal and a few glasses of wine).

But they then decide that they shouldn't go any further because they weren't ready and to just leave it at that.

The next time Bobby is at her house (after asking to drop by to see if the arrangements he had in mind would look good) they sleep together.

And so became the routine of saying that was just a one time thing and more bc they weren't ready and then coming up with an excuse to see each other again and hooking up like couple of horny teenagers.

A few days before May's party, Bobby tells Athena that he's not one of those people who can just continue to hook up with someone without any feelings attached. She tells him that she's sorry but she's just not ready for jump into a relationship again so soon, to which he understands but is heartbroken all the same.

But ever since then, Athena feels an ache in her chest but tries to ignore it. When May's birthday comes along and they're getting ready for the party, Buck arrives with all of the flowers. Athena feel an ache in her chest that she hadn't ever felt with Michael at Bobby's absence. Noticing her mood shift, Michael talks to her and tells Athena that May told her about Bobby (who May had also seen quite a few times since they first met). He tells her that she is allowed to try to find happiness for herself, which help makes Athena decide that she's gonna give it a shot with Bobby, if it's not too late.

Noticing this, May tells her that they have time before the party so she expects her to "go your man" and come back with Bobby in tow because she really wants him to be there.

And so, with pure determination, Athena asks Buck to take her back to the flower shop, to which he happily complies.

When they arrive at the shop, Bobby is surprised to see Athena there but she tells him that she wants to give it a real try, if he'll have her. After he asks if she's sure, not wanting to rush her into anything she wasn't ready for. She smiles and says yes, asking if he's ready as well. As an answer, he proceeds to rush in to kiss her like there's no tomorrow.

Afterwards, both Bobby and Buck go to May's party and Athena and Bobby officially start the beginning of their second shot at a happily ever after.

if you're taking requests for the bruises series - the firefam seeing it? I need more judd/tk brotherhood in my life.

What about bruises au with TK and the firefam? We've seen Carlos's reaction to the bruises, but what is the team like when he can't hide the marks?

TK knows when he goes into work that there will be no hiding the marks. They’ll be starkly visible above his uniform collar, which is probably the only reason it’s taken so long for him to be grabbed by the throat and pinned to the kitchen wall. He tries to cover them with makeup, with little success, before giving up and committing to coming up with some bullshit story about getting into a fight. 

He expects ribbing and teasing when he walks into the firehouse, only for his team to fall dead silent as soon as they see him. No one cracks a joke. Marjan covers her mouth and Paul squints, but it is Judd who steps forward and puts a hand on TK’s shoulder. 

“Let’s talk in the kitchen.”

He couldn’t know the connotations of his words, but TK still flinches, earning another concerned look as they enter the kitchen. It’s bigger but just as modern as the one at home. Judd doesn’t crowd him, letting him take all the space he needs until they’re nearly at opposite ends of the room. 

“You wanna tell me why it looks like you got mauled?”

“Bar fight.”

Judd considers him for a long moment. “Bullshit. You wouldn’t be this cagey if that was the case.” His eyes are locked on TK’s throat. “Did Reyes do this to you? I don’t give a rat’s ass if he’s a cop, I’ll kill him if he laid a hand on you.”

“No! Carlos would never hurt me!”

“Then who did, TK?”

He shrugs and sticks his hands in his pockets. “Like I said, I got in a fight. It’s nothing.”

“Did you get checked out, at least? Make sure there was no damage?”

TK nods. Carlos had insisted on calling Michelle over to look at him, just to ensure he wasn’t going to stop breathing in the middle of the night or something crazy like that. She had recommended going to the hospital because she heard a faint wheeze in his breath, but he declined. He doesn’t need more questions.

“Try not to let it happen again,” Judd says finally. “And you know we’re all here for you, no matter what.”

Oh god nonnie, I know... I know. I'm so sorry.🤦‍♀️ 5A really discouraged me from writing, because I really didn't like that part of the season at all. I came from such a season 4 high and 5A just felt so incredibly off. Thank heavens for 5B. Classic 911. Great episodes and characterisations.

On another note, it has also been an insanely busy year on a personal level. Free time to sit down and write was a far off dream.

I actually have the next chapter mostly written in my WIP folder. It has been there for quite some. I just didn't have the motivation to finish it, edit and post.

I've been thinking about it this week and about the fact that I don't want to leave this fic unfinished. I'm still determined to finish it. I have all the parts worked out and the end is definitely near. It was just a little daunting to get back to it.

I'm going to take a look at it during the weekend/week to try and finish the next chapter. I think it'll also motivate me to write the rest of it.

All right, a quick update on 'To Boldly Go' as promised. I'm finally getting back into the writing zone and the writing is going faster than before. I feel like I've just been writing nonsense for the last couple of weeks, so there is quite some editing in my future as well.

But I'm slowly getting there and I feel like this might be finished quite soon during the next three weeks.

I'm quite excited about sending this chapter out into the world, because we're nearing the end of this story now. In a strange way I'll miss it, but I'm keeping the universe open so I can revisit anytime I want.
