TRAs "We're so oppressed and people say we're violent men" Also TRAs - set fire to a venue then send 300 to swarm a conference to intimidate women for talking about the full impact or gender ideology for both women and the TQ+ that are undergoing transition.
By Genevieve Gluck September 20, 2024
A private school in Lyon, France, had its electricity sabotaged on Thursday as trans activists attempted to have a conference critical of gender ideology cancelled. The event was later swarmed by 300 trans activists, who gathered outside of the Institute of Social, Economic and Political Sciences (ISSEP) in opposition to the appearance of feminist activist Marguerite Stern, co-author of the book “Transmania.”
The conference, titled Comment L’idéologie Transgenre Détruit des Vies? (How Transgender Ideology Destroys Lives), sought to discuss the harms of both medical transitioning and the aggression of trans activism. But even before the event was set to officially begin, the venue – a private school founded by right-wing Member of Parliament Marion Maréchal-Le Pen – was targeted for sabotage.
At approximately 4:00 AM on the day the conference was to take place, an explosion occurred and a fire broke out in a room housing an electrical meter adjacent to the venue. As firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, 200 police officers were dispatched to the scene. The officers were present throughout the evening’s event in order to secure the safety of attendees.

While police are still investigating the cause of the fire, security camera footage caught one unidentified individual setting off an explosive device. The explosion set fire to the electrical meter of the adjacent building, resulting in a power outage for some local residents. This occurred while trans activists had been vandalizing the front of the institute with threatening slogans.
Vandalism on the ISSEP building’s front read: “Dirty TERF,” an acronym which stands for ‘trans-exclusionary radical feminist’ and is often used as a pejorative to harass or threaten violence against women who oppose gender identity ideology.

Stern, formerly an active campaigner against femicide, decided to speak at ISSEP Thursday evening despite the damage to the institute and credible threats to her safety which were shared on social media. While the event took place, more trans activists gathered outside of the venue and complained of “transphobia” to local media.
“At the conference, I talked about how children are harmed by puberty blockers, and all the women who ‘transition’, especially the teenagers, and [detransitioners] who find that ‘transition’ destroyed their lives. But I also talked about the ‘TERFs’, the women who resist, because I believe that transgender ideology destroys their lives, too,” Stern told Reduxx.
“When we started the conference, we didn’t have electricity because the workers were still trying to turn the power back on. And this is not the first time a venue where I was scheduled to speak was vandalized. So what I was talking about was happening in front of our eyes,” Stern continued.
“I’m so upset about that fire and the impact on the people living there. Those people who set the fire just didn’t care about human lives,” she added. “They knew that children were sleeping in this building, and the fire could have been much worse if the firemen didn’t come to stop it. Can you imagine? Some children could have died.

Stern is no stranger to controversy and has been targeted by trans activists for several years.
Last April, when Stern was set to speak at a symposium in Nantes intended to raise awareness of the plight of Afghan and Iranian women, the event had to be postponed in response to violent threats made against her and the venue.
Stern has previously been ousted from her own organization in direct response to her concerns about transgender ideology. Les Collages Contre les Féminicides, a direct action campaign she launched in 2019, involved the creation of murals calling attention to violence against women and girls. In 2022, trans activists destroyed one such mural created in remembrance of the infant victims of shaken baby syndrome by an organization sympathetic to Stern, L’Amazone.
On International Women’s Day in 2021, Stern was pelted with eggs by trans activists in a coordinated and premeditated assault. She, along with members of L’Amazone and the Collective for the Abolition of Pornography and Prostitution (CAPP) had gathered to hold a demonstration at the Place de la République in Paris. The women soon found themselves swarmed and outnumbered by trans activists who called them “SWERFs,” meaning Sex Worker Exclusionary Radical Feminists, and shouted: “No feminism without whores.”
In May, Stern and another women’s rights advocate, Dora Moutot, had death threats chanted at them by a crowd of trans activists outside of Assas University where they had been invited to speak about the book they wrote together.
Demonstrators surrounded the entrance and shouted, “A TERF, a bullet, social justice,” at the two women as they were escorted by police. “They have no shame,” said Stern in footage depicting the scene. “How can they say that in front of police?” marveled Moutot.
Tumblr media
Leading up to last night’s conference, Stern was mocked and threatened with violence on social media by trans activists, some of whom joked about hurling eggs at her for their own amusement.
A second protest organized by Jeune Garde, or the French arm of Antifa, which would have occurred at the entrance of ISSEP, was cancelled by order of the police. Stern explained that the police were aware that Jeune Garde protests are “always violent.”
Le Collectif Droit des Femmes 69 coordinated the protest with over a dozen various trans activist and so-called feminist organizations, among them: NousToutes Rhône, Solidaires Rhône, Ensemble ! 69, VIFFIL-SOS Femmes, PS du Rhône, Filactions, Les Ecologistes 69, SOS Homophobie, Jeune Garde, and le Planning Familial.
“As members of the Collectif Droits des Femmes 69, we cannot remain silent in the face of this conference,” the organization’s leaders announced in a press release. “Indeed, this event illustrates in every way what we are fighting: the crass transphobia of a part of the political and media class, increasingly uninhibited in France and elsewhere. Transphobes publicly spread their venom, legitimizing physical, psychological, institutional violence against our trans or non-binary siblings. The feminism we claim is inclusive, we stand up together and for everyone!”
Tumblr media
Individual organizations also made public statements on social media vilifying Stern and calling on their supporters to denounce her.
“On Thursday, September 19, ISSEP, Marien Maréchal Lepen’s school, has invited Marguerite Stern to present her book ‘Transmania’. This book, which is nothing more than fiction that aims to demonize trans people and spread hatred, is not based on any scientific reality,” reads a statement produced by Solidaires Rhône. “In particular, it served as support for a transphobic bill aimed at banning the transitions of minors, in complicity with the extreme right.”
Since the publication of “Transmania” in April, which Stern co-authored with her colleague Dora Moutot, the two women’s rights activists have been denied speaking opportunities. For years, the two have faced ongoing threats of violence both online and via publicly posted signage, been publicly condemned by prominent politicians, and even had legal complaints made against them for “misgendering”.
Last year, one of the organizations involved in yesterday’s demonstration, SOS Homophobie, filed France’s first-ever “misgendering” discrimination suit against Moutot. The “Transmania” co-author was accused of “violently attacking” Nicolas ‘Marie’ Cau, mayor of the small town of Tilloy-lez-Marchiennes, by calling him a man.

The UN has confirmed its first international staff casualty in Gaza after a UN vehicle was hit in Rafah. Farhan Haq, a spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said during a news conference that the total number of UN staff killed in Gaza since October 7 has reached 190. He said the Rafah incident could be characterised as an attack.
-- "UN confirms killing of first international staff in Gaza in Israeli ‘attack’" by Mersiha Gadzo and Maziar Motamedi for Al Jazeera, 13 May 2024 17:00 GMT
The Government Media Office in Gaza has condemned the Israeli army for killing a foreign UN employee and injuring another staffer in Rafah while they were riding in a United Nations vehicle. “They were targeted while they were riding in a United Nations vehicle bearing the United Nations flag and United Nations insignia”, a statement from the office says. The statement shared on Telegram demanded “an end to the war of genocide” and blamed the US administration for Israel’s “war crimes”.
-- "Gaza government condemns killing of UN employee in Rafah", 17:05 GMT
Screengrabs from video obtained and verified by Al Jazeera show heavy damage to a clearly marked UN vehicle after it came under fire by Israeli forces. The UN confirmed a short while ago that this attack killed the organisation’s first foreign staff member in Israel’s war on Gaza.

A spokesperson for the secretary-general confirmed that there were two individuals in Rafah in a UN-marked vehicle on their way to the European Hospital there as part of their duties. The UN said they work for the Department of Safety and Security and that they came under fire, and one of them was killed, and that person is an international staff member of the UN. The UN is not confirming what country the individual is from as it is still waiting to inform family members. The second individual was injured; we’re told their injuries are minor and that they expect to have a full recovery.

Uruma residents unconvinced by briefing on new SDF training site
THE ASAHI SHIMBUN
URUMA, Okinawa Prefecture—The Defense Ministry tried to reassure residents here about safety and other issues concerning a planned new Ground Self-Defense Force training site, but the explanation was met largely with skepticism.
The ministry held a briefing session for about 280 residents on Feb. 11 about the project planned in their city. Local neighborhood associations, concerned about noise and accidents, have already demanded that the plan be scrapped.
The GSDF training site, adjacent to a residential area, will be part of the “southwest shift” of Japan’s defense capabilities, with China in mind.
The ministry said it will buy a 20-hectare former golf course in fiscal 2024, conduct a survey design in fiscal 2025, and start construction for the GSDF training site in fiscal 2026.
The acquisition cost was included in the proposed budget for the new fiscal year and communicated to the Uruma city and Okinawa prefectural governments. The budget amount has not been disclosed because negotiations with landowners are pending.
The planned site is designed for helicopter operations and training of new SDF members. They will not be firing live ammunition.
“We will do our best to minimize the impact on the surrounding area,” Defense Minister Minoru Kihara said at a news conference.
During the briefing, ministry officials emphasized that “no U.S. military training is envisioned,” and that helicopters will only fly in time of disaster or emergency.
Some residents raised questions.
One said: “It is strange to give an explanation after the planning decision has been made. Will the residents’ opinions be reflected from now on?”
Another resident criticized the ministry’s explanation as “completely unreliable,” citing the fact that its plan to deploy missile and other units at a GSDF garrison in Yonaguni, Okinawa Prefecture, was decided after the coastal surveillance unit was set up.
The development of the Uruma training site was initiated after three revised security-related documents were issued in December 2022. The documents included a policy to upgrade the Naha-based 15th Brigade, with about 2,000 personnel, to a division with more SDF members.
“In terms of defense strategy, it is highly significant to have a training site near the troops,” a senior ministry official.
However, the planned site is surrounded by residential neighborhoods and a prefectural youth facility, where elementary, junior high, and high school students stay and study.
In January, two local neighborhood associations passed a resolution opposing the construction of the training site, citing concerns about noise and accident risks associated with helicopter drills.
A council consisting of 15 neighborhood associations in the former Ishikawa city also unanimously voted against the project.
A 71-year-old resident who lives nearby said the training site “will destroy our lives.”
“The noise and accidents caused by the U.S. military alone are unbearable, and it is outrageous that the SDF will further increase the burden with the base,” he said.
The planned site is also in the district of Miyamori Elementary School, where 18 people, including children, were killed when a U.S. military jet crashed in 1959, before Okinawa’s reversion to Japan.
Many people still remember the tragedy.
The 71-year-old man was a first-grader in the area at the time.
“Every time there is an accident involving the U.S. military, it brings back memories of those days. I fear that the same thing may happen again,” he said.
In addition, a surface-to-ship missile unit will be deployed in March at the GSDF Vice Camp Katsuren in Uruma, located about 15 kilometers southeast of the new training site.
Deployment of long-range missiles at the site, for possible strikes against enemy bases that are attacking Japan, is also being considered.
The ministry said it has not yet decided on the deployment site for such missiles. But some Uruma residents are concerned the area may become a target of other countries in the event of a military emergency.
Uruma Mayor Masato Nakamura has yet to indicate his approval or disapproval of the planned GSDF training site.
Some Uruma city assembly members affiliated with the Liberal Democratic Party are sympathetic to the neighborhood associations.
Transcending party lines, a group of city assembly members plans to submit a petition opposing the project to the February assembly session.
In recent years, the GSDF has opened garrisons in the Sakishima isles, including on Yonagunijima, Miyakojima and Ishigakijima islands.
Okinawa Governor Denny Tamaki said such moves make “the people of the prefecture feel danger and anxiety.”
Regarding the new training site in Uruma, Tamaki urged the ministry and the GSDF to “show respect for the wishes of the local community.”

Donald Trump brought his 2024 presidential campaign to East Palestine, Ohio, on Wednesday, nearly three weeks after a cataclysmic train derailment prompted an environmental disaster in the small town following the release of toxic chemicals.
The former president's visit to the northeastern village preempted Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg's arrival by one day, and Trump relished every opportunity to castigate his Democratic successors, saying Buttigieg "should have already been here," and commanding President Joe Biden to "get over here," according to local reports.
While assuring East Palestine residents that they had "not been forgotten," Trump managed to tout his own presence in the besieged community and brush off questions about his administration's noted history of rolling back regulations on both rail safety and hazardous chemicals.
Trump started his day by briefly visiting with local leaders, according to WKBN-27, before conducting a small press conference at a fire station, where, donning his signature "Make America Great Again" hat, he handed out a flurry of red baseball caps to attendees.
During his speech, Trump pledged to donate thousands of bottles of cleaning supplies, as well as pallets of Trump-branded water bottles to members of the community, many of whom have expressed continued concern over the safety of the town's water supply following the derailment.
"You wanna get those Trump bottles, I think, more than anybody else," Trump said, while flanked by state and local leaders, including Republican Sen. JD Vance.
Tumblr media
The former President dismissed questions about his administration's rollback of Obama-era rail safety regulations saying he "had nothing to do with it."
The Trump administration slashed several environmental and rail regulations while in office, most notably rescinding a 2015 proposal to require faster brakes on trains that were carrying highly flammable or hazardous materials.
The Norfolk Southern Railroad Company freight train involved in this month's crash was carrying vinyl chloride, a colorless gas and known carcinogen, which produced a plume of smoke over East Palestine.
The Department of Transportation under Trump justified the rollback with a 2018 analysis arguing the cost of requiring such brakes would be "significantly higher" than the expected benefits of the update.
A spokesperson for Trump did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.
Following his Wednesday news conference, Trump visited a local Ohio McDonald's where he handed out more MAGA hats and bought meals for firefighters.

A Toronto man has been charged with public incitement of hatred after police allege he held a "terrorist flag" during a demonstration last weekend.
Police say the 41-year-old man allegedly waved a flag of "an organization listed as a terrorist group by Public Safety Canada" while marching through the city's downtown on Sunday.
Speaking at a Toronto Police Services Board meeting Thursday, police Chief Myron Demkiw called the charge "unprecedented," noting the "very high threshold" to charge anyone with a hate propaganda offence.
"We're not putting up with this kind of hateful conduct," said Demkiw, at a news conference Thursday.
"This type of allegation points to an extremist, hateful perspective that we do not welcome in the city."
Police have not confirmed what the flag depicted or what group it was associated with. Speaking to the board, Demkiw said he would "not be complicit in providing a platform to both acknowledge or promote the hateful ideology."
The man is set to appear in court in Toronto on Feb. 23.
Antisemitic incidents make up 53% of reported hate crimes since Israel-Hamas war began: Toronto police
2 Toronto councillors say they want fire at Jewish-owned deli probed as possible act of terror
The chief said Toronto has seen more protests since the start of the Israel-Hamas war than any other city in Canada, and those demonstrations have escalated recently.
He also announced Thursday that demonstrations on the Avenue Road bridge over Highway 401 will now be prohibited as they pose a threat to public safety and have made many in the surrounding Jewish community feel intimidated.
Demkiw said people who ignore the ban can expect to be arrested "if necessary" and any activities that take place on the bridge will be investigated "with a criminal lens."
2 antisemitic hate crimes reported so far in 2024
Demkiw also provided the board with the latest details on the force's hate crime statistics, saying hate crime calls to Toronto police were down in December.
Demkiw said there were 10 reported hate crimes last month compared to 48 in November — a 48 per cent decrease. The shift is the first to come after the force raised alarm about the sustained spike in calls starting Oct. 7.
He called the recent figures "good news" but warned antisemitic incidents are still a major concern, representing a majority of all hate crimes in 2023. There were 132 total incidents reported compared to 65 in 2022.
This year, there have been two antisemitic hate crimes reported so far, one of which was a suspected arson attack against a Jewish-owned deli store in North York.
To date, the force also received 145 reports from people using the recently launched hate graffiti web form, police said.
"Let me be clear and unequivocal, our commitment to keeping our city's Jewish community safe is unwavering," Demkiw said.
"I will say this once again and as many times as necessary: violence and hate will not be tolerated."
It was the PFLP flag,
Demkiw and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met on Wednesday to discuss the recent and "alarming" increase in antisemitic incidents and what more can be done to keep Jewish Canadians safe. The meeting came after two Toronto councillors asked the federal government for help fighting antisemitism in Toronto.
"As partners, we'll continue to do what is necessary to tackle hatred in all its forms," Trudeau said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
From October to December, the force received an average of 190 hate-related calls, up from the average of 47 for all the months prior in 2023.
Demkiw notes the second highest increase were LGBTQ+ hate crimes, going up from 40 in 2022 to 66 reported in 2023 There was also 35 reported anti-Muslim, anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab hate crimes last year compared to 12 the year prior, marking it the third highest category.
Between Oct. 7, 2023 and Jan. 10, 2024, the force said its arrested 54 people, resulting in 117 charges related to hate crimes. The most common charges were mischief, assault and uttering threats.

[ad_1] Max Verstappen and Lando Norris (PC: @maxverstappen1 and @mclaren on instagram) Max Verstappen dazzled everyone with a rip-roaring performance at the 2024 Brazilian Grand Prix as he manoeuvred through treacherous wet conditions, fought his way from P17 to the front of the grid and clinched the race win. The Dutchman had faced a series of penalties including a 10 second penalty from qualifying and a 10-place grid penalty for a new engine. Meanwhile, McLaren’s Lando Norris, who started from Pole position after a swap with teammate Oscar Piastri in qualifying that ensured Norris the pole, ended the race in a disappointing sixth position. The day was extra special for Alpine who achieved a shocking 2-3 finish, making the podium shake-up one of the biggest stories from Interlagos. However, fans brought another twist to the season with criticism of the FIA’s decisions, sparking widespread accusations of favouritism.     Verstappen’s Accusations of Bias after Mexican GP Controversy Verstappen had clashed with Norris in a feisty battle for lead at the Mexico GP a week earlier, tensions already high after the British driver had made quips at Verstappen following his recent successes. At the Mexico GP, Norris accused the RedBull driver of deliberately causing a collision that put Norris out of the race as Verstappen finished P5. British steward Johnny Herbert publicly called out  Verstappen’s leftward move as “deliberate” and aimed at intimidating Norris. Later stewards imposed two 10-second penalties on Verstappen, a decision that raised eyebrows, drawing strong reaction from Max and his father. Jos Verstappen accused the stewards of being favoured towards the British driver and team, especially Norris and McLaren. Max further fueled the argument by pointing out ‘inconsistency’ in stewarding decisions. Fans ultimately echoed Max’s sentiments and accused the FIA of pro-British bias.   Controversial VSC Deployment during Brazilian GP Sprint and Qualifying During the recently concluded Brazilian GP Sprint, FIA’s timing with the deployment of a Virtual Safety Car (VSC). A technical issue with Nico Hulkenberg’s HAAS left him stranded on the track on Lap 20 but FIA only issued a VSC two laps later, causing uproar among fans. The delay of the VSC coincided with McLaren’s driver swap allowing him to gain advantage and secure pole position. With Lando in the lead and Piastri guarding his position from Max, RedBull lost all advantage, as fans questioned FIA’s motives with the timing of the VSC. The governing body has been under fire for their leniency towards McLaren, especially since it has been learned that Tim Mayer, son of McLaren co-founder Teddy Mayer served as one of the stewards. The overlapping incidents have amplified accusations from fans of partiality towards McLaren and Lando Norris.   FIA’s Controversial Language Penalties: Verstappen and Leclerc in Focus The FIA’s handling of language rules has also stirred debate among fans. With both Max Vertsappen and Charles Leclerc both getting penalised for swearing in press conferences but receiving different consequences, Verstappen is convinced he is unfairly targeted. Although both were penalised, Versteppen received community service while Charles was fined €10,000. The 27 year-old Dutchman has voiced his frustration over the disparity and implied that the FIA is biassed.   Public Reaction and Calls for Fairness As the season progresses, the F1 community is pushing the governing body for an open decision-making process, fans have taken to social media to voice their frustrations, while some made memes, others were genuinely concerned over inconsistencies in the FIA’s decisions in the recent past and the future of the sport. It remains to be seen whether or not FIA addresses the growing concerns as they lose public confidence. But one thing is certain, F1 fans are watching closely and are demanding fair and unbiased officiating. The post Brazilian Grand Prix 2024: Social Media

HANDOUT (A)
Never Believe in Ill-Founded Propaganda, We Are Committed to Your Security: CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif Clears Mist on Fake Student Rape Allegations
Lahore, 16 October 2024: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif while addressing the press conference said, “The girl's mother made this request to me, so today you are seeing me on the media. The girl, who was made a rape victim, has been admitted to the hospital since October 2 due to sustaining injuries at home. The under treatment daughter at ICU was being presented as a rape victim. The girl's mother requested on the phone that it is your responsibility to take care of the honour of my girls. Such news were spread on the social media, accusations were made and stories were fabricated which did not even exist. The said girl has been undergoing treatment at the hospital due to a spinal injury since October 2. The guard who was accused in the incident was on leave and he was arrested from Sargodha for investigation. The incident did not happen and there was no eye witness as well. Students are requested to have faith in their government as your safety is my responsibility”. CM Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “The police responded as soon as the report of the alleged rape was received, and the search for the victim girl is ongoing. The so-called campaign was launched to mislead the students. After the failed call of protest and chaos, such a lousy plan was launched. A lousy plan was made to save the sinking, dying politics. Daughters, sisters and mothers are equally respectable, the girl was accused of being a rape victim, dishonoured and lied to. The police wanted to make the father of the girl a plaintiff to the incident but it is a matter of education of thousands of our daughters.”
She added, “The Punjab government will become plaintiff in this incident. I have probed all the medical records and available evidence in every way and will go to the end and will not spare the people involved in it. A storm was raised on the social media over a false incident as a spark ignites a fire on the social media. A story of lies was concocted which did not exist. Even the minor details have been examined down to the bottom of the incident.”
The Chief Minister said, “All such people who were facing allegations have been investigated and I personally attended the meeting of the investigation committee.  As a mother, the incident of the college is very important I am the Chief Executive of the province and it is my responsibility to protect the honour, life and property of 15 crore people. It is our collective responsibility to expose the characters of this conspiracy and bring them to justice. False stories were fabricated to incite the students and a false campaign was launched. When the Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting was being held in Pakistan years later, after the failure of the siege, a ghastly plan was made. When the country's economy improved, inflation decreased, stock exchange improved, protests and arson started. It is my responsibility to protect the honor and reputation of 15 crore people having various ideologies. A child injured in a traffic accident in Gujrat was made a victim of police violence. Child injured due to collision with police van, driver and accomplice were arrested immediately. I have taken update of all the situation till the completion of child’s surgery. People posing as students have been brought to spread chaos in Gujrat. In Gujrat, children were suddenly lured to the streets. Indiscriminate action will be taken against all who are involved in spreading falsehood be it PML-Q supporters or others. When it comes to politics, animalism and satanism, should be discouraged.”
She said, “ On May 9, they sat quietly with their children. Those who are involved in this heinous act will not go scot-free, and the records of all the accounts involved in the incident have been unearthed. The accuser V Loger, has changed his stance and those who were supposed to be arrested have fled, leaving their father in distress and difficulties. Once again children were lured into spreading chaos and anarchy. KPK Chief Minister used public resources to invade Punjab.” The CM said, “I have never witnessed before that one province is attacking another province. I expressed my gratitude to the people of Punjab for rejecting the call of anarchy party. Creating such a situation on the eve of Shanghai Cooperation Organization amounts to unpatriotic attitude. No patriotic Pakistani can indulge into such mischievous activities after seeing the prospects of improvement in the economic conditions of the country. Those who prevent the development of the country are enemies of the country, that is why it is called a terrorist party. Pakistan carries a decent face and will remain so, it is our duty to show a noble face of Pakistan. After the 2018 election, the situation went from bad to worse, and with the efforts of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, the situation improved. I am the Chief Minister of everyone of which party they belong to. The owner of Punjab College Mian Amir Mahmood is a respectable man and I will not allow injustice being done to anyone in my government. You know we nabbed the accused in the rape case even in two hours and women and children are my red line, law & order is my foremost priority.”
The CM added,  “The Defamation law is being opposed so that they can freely tell lies and no one can apprehend them. The Defamation law has been passed and will be implemented soon. Accounts in digital terrorism are being operated by sitting abroad. Such people cannot do constructive politics, they play havoc in everything after coming to power. They do not know how to work and are not even taught. These people are self-sufficient doing vandalism and riots. The people of KPK have been deprived of development and due rights. Politics  disregard doing riots, and siege but is the name of launching projects like air ambulance, heart surgery and roads. Politics is the name of undertaking development projects and doing public service. I ask the people of KPK to open their eyes and recognize their rights. The right to freedom of speech is for truth and not for lies.’’
The Chief Minister said, “Education Minister himself went to the children and listened to their grievances. The social media accounts linked to PTI started spreading chaos and unrest. The cases framed against founder PTI are true, that's why there is a lot of anarchy and unrest is being spread. The facility being provided to the PTI founder should also be provided to the rest of the prisoners. It is our collective responsibility to expose the conspiratorial characters who make up the fabricated story. The children were misled, they did not know the  real issue.  Agitation party is a real problem, social media is not the problem. The false news of the alleged rape victim's death was being spread. An application has been lodged to the FIA to take action against those involved in the incident. PTI leader Zartaj Gul's sister was also given a chance to explain as she does not want to do injustice to anyone. The children were unaware of the issue and were demanding justice. 1122 ambulances with full equipment came from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to invade Punjab. Nawaz Sharif and Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif are trying to improve the situation. Irrespective of political differences, I will speak out wherver injustice is being done.”
The Chief Minister said, “Sometimes they do politics on dead bodies, sometimes they do false politics on children. Those who indulge into such abominable traditions will not be spared. I request the Judiciary that it is a matter to protect honour and all those responsible should not be spared. Misleading mindset is put into practice to influence the young generation. Networks spreading lies have been identified, some networks are operating from outside the country and some are operating from Peshawar. It is not possible to slander someone and get away quietly.”
Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, Provincial Minister for Information & Culture Azma Zahid Bokhari, Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, Chief Secretary, Advocate General, Provincial Secretaries and other relevant officials were also present on the occasion.

James Woods: 'Armed Assassins' Getting Near Trump, Not Harris
Tumblr media
Actor James Woods is asking how two armed would-be assassins have been able to get close to former President Donald Trump in recent months, but not near his rival for the White House, Vice President Kamala Harris.
"We have two candidates campaigning for the presidency of the United States," he posted on X on Sunday, after the arrest of Ryan Wesley Routh, 58.
"The Secret Service employs 3,200 special agents, 1,300 Uniformed Division officers, and 2000 others, and yet two armed assassins have been within a few hundred yards of one of those candidates," said Woods.
Routh, 58, reportedly hid near Trump's West Palm Beach, Florida, golf course for almost 12 hours on Sunday. He fled after Secret Service agents protecting the former president while he was golfing saw the barrel of Routh's gun and opened fire. He was captured shortly thereafter.
He has been arraigned on charges of possessing a firearm despite being a convicted felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number. Further charges are possible against him, pending an indictment from a grand jury.
Woods' questions come as members of Congress on both sides of the aisle are pushing for Trump to receive enhanced Secret Service protection, reports Axios.
"All major presidential candidates ought to receive the highest level of presidential [protection]," Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., said. "Anything less than maximum protection is a self-inflicted wound that puts our nation's stability at grave risk."
Torres and Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., introduced a bill in July to boost security for Trump, President Joe Biden, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., after a gunman opened fire on Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Rep. Nick Langworthy, R-N.Y., called on Biden to issue Trump the "same security levels afforded to a sitting president to ensure his safety," and Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., said Trump should "have the same security level as the sitting president."
But Sunday, shortly after Routh was arrested, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said at a news conference that the Secret Service was "limited" to the areas the agency "deems possible."
"We would have had this entire golf course surrounded" if Trump was the sitting president, Bradshaw said.

Launches in Ukraine
Senses of a word and of a struggle
Timothy Snyder
Sep 16, 2024
Words make their way through the world with us, changing their senses as we change our lives.  Think for example of the word “launch.”
Today and in days to come I will “launch” my book On Freedom, in the sense of the word all of my publishing friends like to use.  They want to book to “launch,” to soar, to do well.  In this spirit I talked to Tom Sutcliffe of the BBC in London this morning, and I am hoping to speak to Rachel Maddow of MSNBC tonight.  And no doubt throughout this long day, which begins in Europe and ends in the United States, I will say “launch” several times myself.
I am returning from Ukraine. My first true conversation about On Freedom this month was a week ago in Kharkiv, a major city in northeastern Ukraine, close to the Russian border and to the front.  The Literary Museum there had invited me for a presentation at an underground site.  It was a lovely place, with a bar that made me the coffee that I needed after a long trip, and a crowd of people invited to talk about freedom (we could not announce the event for safety reasons, which I regret). In a sense, this Kharkiv discussion was the real launch of the book.
We were underground, though, because of another kind of launch, the unmetaphorical kind, not the literary launch but the literal launch — of Russian missiles.Kharkiv, Budynok “Slovo”.
The Russians seemed close to taking Kharkiv at the beginning of the war.  There was intense combat in Saltivka, a district of the city home to about 600,000 people.  Major buildings in the city center of Kharkiv are still in ruins. The Ukrainians held the Russians back, but Russia itself remains close.  A missile fired from Russia can reach Kharkiv before people have a chance to get underground.  That, in Kharkiv, is what a “launch” too often means.
The difference in the sense of a word can help us to catch the difference in reality.  In Kharkiv, the drones and the bombs and the missiles are a normal part of the day.  People want to talk about books, they want to go to restaurants and movies, they want to live their lives, and they do, despite it all.
Those of us beyond war zones catch all of this, if at all, indirectly, through media.  We do not hear the sirens and we do not have to go underground.  We do not have to check social media to see if friends and family are alive. The word “launch” retains a kind of innocence.
This is not about countries being different, but about situations being difference.  Kharkiv in normal times is a major literary city. In the 2020s, before the Russian full-scale invasion, Kharkiv was a center of Ukrainian book production.  Before February 2022 there were plenty of launches, in the literary sense, in Kharkiv. And there are still some now!
Genocide is not only about killing people, but about eliminating a culture, making it untenable by destroying the institutions that transmit it.  Thus Russia burns books, steals museum artifacts, and bombs archives, libraries, and publishing houses.  Russia deliberately destroyed the publishing houses in Kharkiv, including where one of my own books was being printed.  One sort of launch would seem to obliterate the other.  But, to the Ukrainians’ credit, only for a time.  The book publishing industry, like a number of others, picked up in other places. The public book culture in Ukraine, expressed in new stores and cafes, is defiant.
I was thinking of “launches” in Kyiv, a couple of days after the Kharkiv visit, as I pretaped an interview about the book.  For me it was the end of a long day, spent beginning (“launching”) a big history project.  The first conference had gone well, and we had a press conference complete with a Viking sword, a Byzantine cross, and Scythian and Trypillian vessels kindly loaned by the national museum.  Ukrainian colleagues on the stage had spoken of the importance of cooperation and listening in our grand cooperative project.  I was in a good mood when I went to a side room to tape the interview.
At around the time the interview began, a missile was launched from Russia, aimed at Kyiv.   The air raid sirens began outside the window.  An air raid siren can mean different forms of attack, some more rapid and some less so.  Drones can cause terrible damage and kill large numbers of people, but they are not very fast.  If a missile is in the air, on the other hand, you have to move right away.  Since there was in fact a missile bearing down on Kyiv, I explained this to the interviewer and hastened to the stairs.  I learned that Ukrainian air defense had destroyed the missile as I reached the staircase.
This was all completely normal.  The Russians launched a number of very large strikes last week with missiles and drones.  Ukrainian air defense is excellent — when the Ukrainians are given the tools, they protect their people extremely well, and Kyiv is where their limited equipment is concentrated.  We picked up the interview as soon as I could re-establish the connection.
One sort of “launch” had been briefly interrupted by another, my literary book launch by a literal missile launch.  This was an infinitesimally tiny taste of the interruption tens of millions of Ukrainians face all the time from Russia’s senseless war, which changes the shapes of lives even when it does not end them.  Russia launches these attacks on civilians all the time, almost every day.  The point is not only to kill people and destroy civilian architecture but to instill a certain view of life.  Nothing good ever happens. Be afraid at all times.  Undertake nothing new yourselves.  Give up.
But people do start new projects in Ukraine.  Ukrainian writers have been productive during this war, including writers serving in the armed forces. Serhiy Zhadan, an extraordinary Kharkiv poet and novelist, has just published a book. I was able to have three discussions with him in two cities. One day there will be a collection of Ukrainian war poetry in translation, and it will be astounding. Ukrainians launch cultural projects one after the other, even if the word seems odd just now.  I took part in two such launches in just one week: the big history project in Kyiv, called Ukrainian History Global Initiative; and a new cultural institution in Lviv, INDEX, which is based around recording war experience from multiple methods and multiple perspectives.  The Literary Museum in Kharkiv has an interesting new (partly interactive) exhibition by K. Zorkin.
When we can meet, we can gather the senses of words from the settings.  I am grateful to all my friends and colleagues and hosts in Ukraine.  Without the time in Ukraine On Freedom would be a different and poorer book. And so, much as I am happy to be speaking about the book today in the UK and the US, it seems right that there was something like a launch in Kharkiv first.
When we cannot meet, we still have the words.  We can follow the senses of the word “launch,” from the rougher to the gentler and back, along an arc that perhaps leads to some understanding.

Powerful Earthquake Hits Off Southern Japan Triggering a Tsunami Advisory

Powerful Earthquake Hits Off Southern Japan Triggering a Tsunami Advisory
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TOKYO — A powerful earthquake struck off Japan’s southern coast on Thursday, triggering a tsunami advisory that urged residents to stay away from the coastline. Nine people were injured, most of them slightly, but there were no reports of serious damage.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake registered magnitude 7.1 and was centered in waters off the eastern coast of Japan’s southern main island of Kyushu at a depth of about 30 kilometers (18.6 miles).
The quake most strongly shook Nichinan city and nearby areas in Miyazaki prefecture on Kyushu island.
The agency said tsunami waves of up to 50 centimeters (1.6 feet) were detected along parts of Kyushu’s southern coast and the nearby island of Shikoku about a half hour after the quake struck. The tsunami advisory was lifted from most coastlines except those along the Miyazaki prefecture.
Seismologists at the agency held an emergency meeting to analyze whether the quake had affected the nearby Nankai Trough, the source of past devastating earthquakes. They later issued an assessment that the potential for a future quake in the area from Kyushu to central Japan is higher than previously predicted. The agency said it will continue to closely watch movements of plates near the Nankai Trough.
That does not mean there’s an imminent danger of a big quake in the near future, but they urged residents on the coasts along the trough — which spans about 500 kilometers (310 miles) — to review their quake preparedness, University of Tokyo seismologist Naoshi Hirata, a member of an expert panel, told a joint news conference with JMA officials.
There is a 70-80% chance of a magnitude 8 or 9 quake stemming from the Nankai Trough within the next 30 years, Hirara said, adding that Thursday’s quake raises that probability even while the timing or exact location cannot be predicted.
The Fire and Disaster Management Agency said nine people were injured, most of them slightly when falling down or hit by objects in Thursday’s quake in Miyazaki and neighboring Kagoshima.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said officials were assessing possible injuries or serious damage, though none were immediately reported. He urged residents of the affected region to stay away from the coastline.
JMA Seismology Department official Shigeki Aoki warned that strong aftershocks could occur for about a week.
Japan’s NHK public television said windows were broken at the Miyazaki airport near the epicenter. The airport’s runway was temporarily closed for safety checks.
NHK showed dozens of people gathering at a designated hilltop evacuation area.
In Osaki in neighboring Kagoshima prefecture, concrete walls collapsed and a wooden house was damaged, but no injuries were reported.
The Nuclear Regulation Authority said all 12 nuclear reactors, including three that are currently operating, on Kyushu and Shikoku remained safe.
Earthquakes in areas with nuclear power plants have been a major concern since a massive earthquake and tsunami in March 2011 triggered the Fukushima nuclear disaster.
Japan sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” a line of seismic faults encircling the Pacific Ocean, and is one of the world’s most earthquake-prone countries.
An earthquake on Jan. 1 in Japan’s north-central region of Noto left more than 240 people dead.

FLASHBACK: Walz backed 'alternatives to policing' package at height of defund movement

FLASHBACK: Walz backed 'alternatives to policing' package at height of defund movement
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Days after the city of Minneapolis was crippled by violent riots after the death of George Floyd and at the height of the “defund the police movement,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz endorsed a package of progressive police reforms that included “alternatives to policing.””Minnesotans are demanding real change,” Walz said during a June 11, 2020, press conference endorsing a police reform package put together by the Minnesota People of Color and Indigenous (POCI) Caucus. He called it one of his “legislative priorities.””We stand united with House and Senate leaders and the People of Color and Indigenous Caucus, ready to get to work during the upcoming special session. I stand with the legislators who have coordinated a powerful set of reforms to make meaningful changes to our law enforcement system in Minnesota.”A daily update that year from the Minnesota House of Representatives also noted, “Members of the People of Color and Indigenous Caucus joined Gov. Tim Walz Thursday to present 18 bills they plan to introduce during the special session that begins Friday. Each bill deals with an aspect of police policy, training or discipline that caucus members believe will improve public safety and relations between officers and the communities they serve.” VANCE FIRES BACK AT ‘DISGUSTING’ CNN ANCHOR SUGGESTING HIS MILITARY SERVICE WAS EMBELLISHED AMID WALZ DISPUTE”This is a coordinated and powerful set of reforms,” Walz said at the time. “Minnesota will change the way we do policing.”The “powerful set of reforms” included a call to create an Office of Community-Led Public Safety Coordination, which would “promote and monitor alternatives to traditional policing models” and award grants for “healing circles.”The proposal states that “$7,450,000 is appropriated for grants to promote healing support in the black, indigenous, and communities of color in Minnesota. The Office will provide grants to community-based organizations that provide programs and direct intervention to promote wellness and healing justice. Grants would be made available for, but not limited to, the expansion of community organizations that provide healing and wellness services, providing healing circles, restorative justice circles, and community coach certification programs.”FORMER MINNESOTA LAWMAKERS UNLOAD ON HARRIS’ ‘PARTISAN’ VP PICK TIM WALZ: ‘VERY THIN-SKINNED'”We’re supporting that slate of legislative proposals,” Walz said during a press conference June 10, 2020, three days after the Minneapolis City Council pledged to disband its police force.Walz ultimately signed police reforms into law as part of the Minnesota Police Accountability Act. However, the legislation did not include an Office of Community-Led Public Safety Coordination.”This bipartisan bill follows decades of advocacy by communities of color,” Walz said when the legislation was approved. “And it is a good first step. These are long overdue changes, but they do not end the conversation we’re having about police accountability. The POCI Caucus has shown tremendous leadership on this issue, and I look forward to continuing our work with them to bring meaningful reform.”Fox News Digital reached out to the Harris/Walz campaign for comment but did not receive a response.
