SOREN!!!!

This is one of my favorite Soren moments. Throughout the game we see Ike and Soren reassure each other and make sure the other is alright.

In this moment, Ike is hurting, he's feeling insecure, he's worried about the future and if he can be the leader the mercs need (like his father was)... he is so vulnerable in this moment and Soren tries to be there for him as best he can

(Soren is also worried amd distressed in this moment, subtly, hoping he can help Ike through this and be the staff officer that he needs to help Ike through this)

Devdan: He ran away… Oh, poor young one. Perhaps Devdan is to blame for showing you his trick. But Devdan can’t tell you how it’s done, because it is a…secret… Oh, the shame of it all…

Replaying PoR and having thoughts about Soren...

I think the whole thing with Port Toha is a lot of fun, because in the beginning of the game Soren seems to be gradually finding his footing when it comes to his own morals and also growing out of some innocent views about how the war will play out and that seems to be the point where it really hits him that he cares about this in some way.

I say innocent because he begins the game suggesting the group ally with Daein, and even that they give them princess when they come for her, all to spare the Greil Mercenaries from having involvement in the war. Which is innocent to me because war would come for them either way in some shape, it's impossible for the Crimean people not to face repercussions in this situation, and even if they completely switched sides to Daein their lives would still change.

And as we see in that "give us the princess" scenario, the Daein army never intended to let them live anyway, even if they did hand her to them, which I think Soren would have been able to predict even a few months later, but not right now. It just strikes me as growing pains.

But Port Toha really is where I think that he's hit with the realization that he cares about this. That he's upset this war is happening and also upset that there's people being complacent - as complicit with it as he suggested they should be at the beginning.

I don't know where I'm going with this, I just think it's fun seeing him find where his limits are throughout the game.
