A/N: Sorry this part is so short

You stood in the drawing room of Kew, waiting for your mother and father to arrive in just a few minutes. Instead of a huge breakfast in the dining room, you opted for a light tea in a more casual setting. Honestly, you were mildly annoyed. The only thing you wanted to do after people returned from their church services, that they never attended weekly because no one cared about the priest admonishing them, was go to the Featherington house. You were shocked that Colin was calling Marina. But friends didn’t always fall in love.

It wasn’t like Penelope was upset about it. She didn’t even like Colin. But like your mother you wanted to matchmake someone and figured they would have been the easiest couple to form. But you wanted to spy on Colin and Marina under the guise of aiding in chaperoning with Penelope since Lady Featherington was running around between girls and their callers.

Your thoughts about who to matchmake were interrupted by your parents arriving. You poured tea for them. Breakfast was a bit awkward in a way it had never been before. George and Charlotte were assessing you intently. You got in two bites of bread when the physician entered. Your parents continued their conversation while you were being checked over. The physician made little comments for the nurse to jot down. Overall, you were fine. That seemed to satisfy your mother and father. There was a glint in Charlotte’s eye.

“The King an— Everyone, out.”

The room, aside from Brimsley and Reynolds, cleared out.

“George and I have decided that we’d like to give you an opportunity. There is an opera coming up. Agatha and her friend Violet will be attending. You may come with. You will meet them before the show starts and then we will stay to watch the entire performance. Afterwards, you must go home. No exceptions.”

“Thank you! Thank you so much! I wo—”

“Calm yourself. You know getting excited makes your condition worse.”

You sat back down, trying not to bounce up and down. She was right after all. Being overly excited made you sweaty or a little hot for some reason and being too warm made you start to see things or think strange things. When your parents left, you ran to your wardrobe.

The dresses needed to be fancy but not too fancy since it was a sit-down event. You picked a yellow dress with short puff sleeves. It ended just above the bottom of your ankle — very stylish for the times. Pairing it with light blue gloves that went past your elbows, you added a light blue skirt piece that made a small train.

“You look beautiful, Your Highness,” Brimsley said.

“I have to agree.” Both Pandora and Reynolds looked at each other, shocked they said the same thing at the same time.

“Thank you. Shall we go? Reynolds, would you like to be dropped at home to see Father?”

“That would be nice, Your Highness, thank you.”

“Then let us leave now.”

You rolled your eyes in the carriage, setting down your copy of Lady Whistledown’s society papers.

“It is utterly ridiculous. She is a disgraceful woman. I tolerated the gossip but speculating death, wishing death on my father is something I cannot accept nor tolerate. How dare she?”

Your confidantes agreed with you and shared their own opinions on society and gossip.

Whispers started to spread throughout the opera house while people still rolled in and music still played. How could it not? The youngest royal child was actually outside. There was no opening for the mouth on this particular mask which meant this was not your introduction. You might speak to a lucky few but there would be no speeches or announcements tonight. People couldn’t hear you from far away with ceramic blocking your mouth. You stuck close to your mother while everyone tried to look at you or talk to you.

“Lady Bridgerton!” Lady Danbury yelled from across the room. “Do join us.”

Violet tried to conceal her wide eyes and smile as she grabbed Daphne’s arm before her daughter could walk away from whoever she was trying to avoid. She made eye contact with you. You watched as she rather frantically waved over someone else.

Anthony — or should you call him the viscount for the evening — began walking towards you, bowing to the Queen before turning his full attention to you. You let him take your hand and give it a kiss. A kiss that you noted was considerably longer by a minimum of five seconds than when he kissed you as Miss Beckett. So it was definitely Violet trying to set up the princess with her son and not the valet with Colin.

You let Anthony talk your ear off about his responsibilities as the eldest and his horseback riding hobby, notably leaving out the details of riding through the mud and staying out there for hours. He was considerably more boring when trying to impress a woman. Ignoring the whispers that permeated through the room, you tried to focus on your friend.

You motioned for him to lean in so you could speak into his ear and actually let him hear you rather than sounding muffled, practically silencing the hall. Anthony laughed at the joke you told which caused both of your mothers to turn around. This was the Anthony you liked better. Violet gasped when you placed a hand on her son’s arm — your mother raised her eyebrows as she and Lady Danbury gave you a slight nod of approval.

“Will you escort me to our box, Viscount Bridgerton?”

“Please, call me Anthony.”

“Lord Bridgerton, that is most forward when we don’t know each other.”

“I was told royals didn’t obey our rules of upper society.”

The two of you started up the stairs, away from prying eyes, that led up to the Queen’s box.

“Anthony?”

“Now we speak of first names.”

You rolled your eyes. “I will allow you to call me by mine, just this single occasion. Anthony, where are the other Bridgerton siblings? If I remember correctly, you have seven of them? Miss Bridgerton is here but I do not see the others.”

“Truthfully, they were very bored by the show being put on tonight. We’ve seen it before. I’m merely here to aid my mother and chaperone my sister. Have you seen this show before?”

“If I have then it was when I was very little.”

“Well, then please do not let my words discourage your enjoyment of the performance. Here is your stop.” He extended a hand to help you up the short steps into the box. “Y/N, thank you for the flowers from the other day. Truly, they are appreciated.”

You studied his face for a moment. He really was handsome. His hair didn’t cover as much of his face this evening as it usually did whenever you visited. The stark colors of his black and white attire made his features stand out.

“I am glad you liked them. Now is where I leave you for the evening, Lord Bridgerton. I shall hope to see you some more once I formally introduce myself to society.”

“I will look forward to that day. Goodbye… Y/N.”

“Goodbye, Anthony.”

Taking your seat, you waited for your mother and her friends to come to the box. The smile on Charlotte’s face grew wider the closer she got to the box. She was going on about Anthony. Obviously, you were going to have many suitors to entertain but a viscount was certainly a very important suitor and only made your prospects have to be better in their courting.

“Excuse me, I’m going to the privy,” you told your mother when you felt your throat start to tighten up.

She just gave you a nod. The shadows of the opera house were closing in on you and you couldn’t calm your mind down. You needed to be in a place with more candlelight. You jumped at the sound of several dogs barking from the shadows. They were big creatures. You had never seen them but you could tell from their bark and — when you got too close — how their breath fanned across the top of your head. Hastening your steps to get away, you ran straight into Violet.

“Oh, I’m terribly sorry. I decided to take a walk after going to the privy and wasn’t watching where I was going.”

The woman in front of you smiled. “Your Highness, if I may be so bold to ask? Would you like to attend a dinner we are hosting? The Duke of Hastings will be there. I understand that you aren’t yet introduced but it woul—”

“I shall love to come. Just tell me when.”

“Saturday evening.”

“Perfect.”

Saturday evening couldn’t have come any sooner. You were tired of counting the floor titles in the bathroom and needed to leave. For the sake of your valets, you hadn’t snuck out at all that week.

You turned to your valets. “I will be back in a few hours.”

“Please be careful,” Pandora said.

“I always am.”

“Not really.” You heard someone mutter inside the carriage.

Marshall escorted you in. You had to stop yourself from smiling, remembering that he had no clue who you were. It was almost alarming when everyone — including the Duke of Hastings — stood when you entered the dining room. You weren’t sure why you didn't expect it. Perhaps you were already too used to your disguise as Miss Beckett. You gave a slight curtsey.

“I apologize for being late.”

“No. You aren’t late at all,” Anthony said as he started to gather his plate.

You shook your head. “Oh, stay where you are.”

“But, Your Highness.”

“I can afford to not be the head of a table for a single night.” You looked around. “I shall sit across from Miss Daphne Bridgerton.”

“She knows your name!” Hyacinth’s voice rose three octaves. You figured you could make her night by having the princess knowledgeable about the Bridgertons.

Colin and Benedict scrambled to pull their chairs apart so you could sit in between them. You waved Marshall away, plating your own food. You could feel the silence of the dinner table as you did things the normal way you would at Kew or Buckingham House.

They also might have been preoccupied with your disguise rather than the way you dragged your own spoon through the mashed potatoes. It was natural. Your siblings had told you all about how people would scrutinize the different masks you would wear. They'd try their hardest to get a real glimpse of your face.

The eye holes had sheer coverings on them that made it hard to see your true eye color. And when it came to your mouth. Your maids had taken their painstakingly slow time making sure the makeup covered up an unique qualities around your mouth and changed the shape of your lips to a shape unrecognizable to you at all. Hungry mamas with daughters they'd want to be in your court or sons they'd want to court you are able to sniff out something like the tiniest wrinkle by the bottom of your lip and use that to scout the whole ton until they found you without the mask on.

It happened to Edward countless of times and was the reason for all the rules regarding the masks in the first place. You looked up after cutting your chicken.

“What were you all talking about before I arrived?”

“Lady Whistledown,” Eloise cut in before anyone could stop her.

“Really? Tell me more.”

“You want to know?”

“Of course I do. I must know her identity. However I must say I will be having a private word with her about not publishing speculation of my father’s death.”

“How is he?”

“Oh, he’s perfectly fine. No matter, though, I need to know every thought you have on our mysterious Lady Whistledown?”

You enjoyed the bickering between everyone. There wasn’t even a firm thought on what class Whistledown belonged to. In your opinion it had to have been an upper class woman. Only someone like that could have enough time on their hands and still survive day to day needs. You dipped your fork into the potatoes.

“Viscount Bridgerton, I must say that any correspondence between the royals and the Bridgerton House should be sent to Kew. I stay there now.”

“Correspondence?” Violet asked, trying to suppress the excitement in her voice.

“Yes. I shall need to understand the ton more than what I have studied. Don’t bother putting them together. I much prefer to read individual letters. Now, I have engagements already arranged for tomorrow so I must be on my way. However, I would love to attend dinner again. Goodnight, Lady Bridgerton, Viscount, Bridgertons, Your Grace.”

Anthony stood up from the table. “Let me escort you to your carriage.”

“That would be much appreciated, Lord Bridgerton.”

I implore you all to remember that gossip, particularly baseless gossip, can be a dangerous thing. While we all are very entertained by Lady Whistledown, remember that you must discover the truth for yourself. I would hate to see lives ruined over entertainment.

Dear Viscount Bridgerton,

The dinner at your house was very lovely. Your family seems to be a wonderful group of people. I am sorry for keeping my lady’s maid away for so long. She has been in Ireland, procuring plant seeds and fabrics for me. Please fret no more for she will be back soon. But I do have to say our correspondence might be limited to letters for a majority of our current time. Until I am introduced to society, it is not wise for me to constantly be out. I shall look forward to more times spent with the Bridgertons at a later date.

You finished signing the letter, handing it to Pandora to take to the press for copies to be made. Moving an entire printing house from Buckingham to Kew wasn’t exactly quick and easy but your staff had managed to do it in no time at all. For the time being, Kew was entirely self-sufficient.

“Please take the letters for the Bridgertons to their house after you have visited the press.”

“Yes, Your Highness.”

“Brimsley, what is on the schedule after the physician leaves?”

“You wanted to ride horses and then prepare a bouquet for the ball tomorrow night to be delivered by one of us.”

“Yes, thank you. And after that?”

Reynolds looked at you and then his partner. You had just made the schedule no less than an hour ago. It didn’t seem normal for you to not know. Their eye contact didn’t waiver as they silently communicated to not say a word but just answer all your questions. You got up, moving to your wardrobe to get a petticoat for outside.

“Ah, yes, Brimsley. Are we preparing the bouquet tonight before or after the physici…an…”

Tears started to well up in your eyes as you realized you had asked the question already. Brimsley and Reynolds were a tad too slow. You were already in the wardrobe, trying to calm yourself down. Every time a sob left your mouth or you begged them not to tell your parents caused some pain in their hearts. Reynolds stopped Pandora from leaving, handing the letters to a different lady-in-waiting.

You looked up in the dark space when you heard the knocking. It was hard to ignore the dogs in the shadows just waiting to snap at you. But the dark stopped the heavens from coming in. It was always a compromise. And since the heavens confused your mind and blocked your memory, the dogs would have to wait.

“You can open it.”

Pandora stuck her head in, trying to prevent too much light from coming in. “You’re stronger than whatever you have, you know? It doesn’t matter. None of it does… Maybe you should show the planets and shadow dogs and other shadow creatures that they cannot control a princess. They do not control you.”

Reynolds sighed as he said a quick prayer to not be fired. “Maybe going to the ball would show the shadows that they cannot control you.”

You didn’t really have a choice. Pandora practically pulled you out of the closet and started making plans for tomorrow’s ball, including how to enjoy yourself but stay hidden.

Little late to the game with episode! But here goes!

Opening scene..... ugh they really are trying hard with the 'tech is bad' trope aren't they?

Correct me if I'm wrong but vigilantes aren't usually wanted in politics right? Oh but we need to send James off on a high note, so let's give him the worst idea since making him CEO of Cat Co!

I quite like the twist that if a green Martian attacks his brother he gets pain to.

Hmm... Lena talks about how humans and aliens lie but it's not their fault it's just how they are programmed. I almost thought this was a suttle way of Lena saying she doesn't blame Kara for lying , like She's making an excuse for her.

Lena's idea is actually a noble one, it's what everyone dreams of. A world where people can't hurt eachother, but it's not a plausible reality. The writers really are trying to make Lena unstable, which to be fair after everything she's been through she probably is.

It's soooo out of character for Lena to want to use or basically steal someone else's tech since people have been using her tech for nefarious purposes since day one! This isn't Lena, she's done a complete 180 that makes zero sense.

Oh so Kara decided to show up to work ? Hang on a sec, Nia called Kara to say Andrea was on the war path because she won't start the meeting without everyone there, but Nia waited until Kara got there to go into it? Is she trying to get on Andrea's bad side? Go to the meeting Nia!!

Kara can't stop looking her nose down at Andrea can she? Oh she was given an assignment but it's apparently below her?? Oh she's trying to get another great story thought someone else she knows.. ugh. Like I know it's good to use for resources but Kara has such unfair advantages. How about going after a story you haven't had handed to you on a silver platter?

Oh so now Kara has been told she can do both stories but Nadrwa wants hers done first (fair) and wants it done by noon (fair) but apparently Kara doesnt have time for this? No!! This is getting silly now, Kara this is YOUR job! You can't decide when you want to do it or decide when it's convenient. If kara can't do the job because of Supergirl she shouldn't be doing it. Kara needs to learn she isn't working for Cat, Lena or James anymore. This is the real world now, no more Molly coddling.

I'm loving Kelly this episode! She's only been around 5 minutes and is already way more interesting than James has ever been.

Sooo over all a good episode! Best parts were the Non Alex/Kara show down and the Alex and Kelly parts! Worst bits? Totally OOC Lena that makes zero sense, and Kara's 'I'm above this and can't be bothered' attitude towards her job.

Or her good bits include Kelly and Jonn working together and ALL of Brainy!

Are you someone who's expecting a special occasion soon? Perhaps a wedding anniversary or it's the birthday of a special someone? Well nothing makes a perfect evening than sharing a wonderful dining experience with the people that matters to you. The meal courses that are offered in a fine dining restaurant are usually dedicated and somehow limited. Food portions are a lot smaller but they are garnished to the point of perfection.

It is a given that fine dining restaurants should offer foods that are not only visually pleasing but they should also taste amazing as well. For the perfect night, choose the best fine dining experience that's available to you. Just keep in mind the various criteria that were mentioned above and match it with your own personal preference. If you live in a major city, chances are there will be many options that are available so choosing the best one can be quite tricky. The best action to take is to conduct your research regarding all the fine dining restaurants in your area beforehand. That's right, if the occasion is indeed special, it won't hurt if you put a little more effort to it right?

HOW TO BE HAPPY: A Brief Guide for Citizens [Part 2 of 4]

( Since there was such a positive response to the first part, I’ve gained a second wind and am here to provide part two! I did find a typo in the handbook, but I left it in the transcript as to preserve it as is. )

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES IN WELLINGTON WELLS THAT ARE SURE TO DELIGHT

What can you do for diversion in Wellington Wells? Why, just stop outside your door, and you’re sure to find some fun.

MARIONETTE THEATRE. The Simon Says Society mounts occasional marionette shows on the Rorke’s Drift Bridge. These shows began in the 1940s with the amateur performers Sholl & Danlip, though our town’s marionette tradition apparently dates back to the Tudor era.

OUTDOOR CONCERTS. Enjoy the musical stylings of the Tunnel Rats Octet every week in Mrs. Chippy Park. Admission is free, although gratuities are appreciated. Pop star Nick Lightbearer also performs regularly, though locations are kept secret until the day of the event, to prevent throngs of lady fans from swarming the venue.

ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM ( GARDEN DISTRICT ). As previously noted, people have been enjoying life in Wellington Wells for centuries. Normally archaeologists must painstakingly dig for evidence of these past eras, however the recent bombing in the Garden District has fortuitously created craters in which one can see multiple layers of history without any effort.

JOURNALISM APPRECIATION DAY. We Wellies love our newspaper, The “O” Courant. Every spring we celebrate this journalistic treasure by folding it into paper hats and into paper boats that we sail down the river.

FINE DINING. Wellington Wells is currently enjoying a culinary boom. Our victory gardens overflow with delicious produce, and trade from across the river is brisk. As a result, new see-and-be-seen hotspots seem to open every week. There’s no need to settle for good old beans-on-toast anymore - though, of course, we do still love our B-on-T.

SPORTING FUN! Wellington Wells has a number of sporting events - such as cricket, croquet, lawn tennis, and fencing - that villagers can watch or participate in. Whilst Wellington Wells no longer plays teams from other villages, we still enjoy our rousing Croquet Team Fight Song.

JOIN THE CLUB!

Still looking for something to do? Wellington Wells has a variety of clubs you can join.

THE ROSE SOCIETY. The Rose Society is a gardening club. It does not currently have any actual garden, but plans are afoot for a lovely botanical park once co-presidents Clive Birtwhistle and Harry Plantagenet can agree on whether to grow white roses or red roses. If you would like to join the Rose Society, please submit your genealogy (ideally 10 generations or more) to either Harry or Clive.

THE JACOBEAN SOCIETY. Do you adore Uncle Jack? Do you like wearing jaunty red hats? Of course you do! Why not get together with your follow Jacobeans for trivia nights, lectures, and watching the telly? Club suppers feature the latest Uncle Jack recipes from “That Tastes Delicious - What Is It?” Join the fun!

THE REFORM SOCIETY. Do you wish to better your fellow man? Perhaps you wish to be improved yourself, but need to guiding hand. Madame Wanda’s new Reform Club is for you! An invitation from a current member is mandatory, but rubber suits are optional.

NICK LIGHTBEARER FAN CLUB. Our local pop star’s fans get together every week to both write and answer fan mail. “It makes sense to keep the letters all in one place, to save on postage,” says club president Penelope Snug. Membership is open to any attractive female who has not yet been married to Nick.

THE GEOGRAPHICAL SOCIETY. Wellington Wells is an area of surprising seismic activity. If you sometimes feel that locations are not where you thought they were, it’s not your imagination. Things really do move around! The Geographical Society keeps track of all our to-ing and fro-ing, in addition to sponsoring Treasure Hunt Tuesdays.

THE SIMON SAYS CLUB. We Wellies love to do as we’re told! The Simon Says Club ( formerly the Foreign Visitor Welcome Committee ) hosts daily games in Mrs. Chippy Park. The games are free, all are welcome!

WELLINGTON WELLS WALKING TOURS

If you are looking for amusement out of doors, Eric “Crazy Legs” Liddel conducts walking tours of the Village, “Because many citizens have a tendency to get lost on their own.” Why not tag along and see the sights? Do try to keep up with him though, as his pace is brisk!

THE GARDEN DISTRICT. Once the pride of Wellington Wells, the Garden District has recently fallen into a bit of disrepair, but will soon be restored to its former glory. Plans are afoot for a lovely conservatory to rival the crystal palace at Kew Gardens, as well as for tennis courts and cricket grounds. Meanwhile, the district has an abundance of Victory Gardens. Clearly no one could ever go hungry in such a locale!

THE VILLAGE. Hamlyn Village is the one of the most scenic in England, and is especially renowned for its lack of rats. One of the most delightful spots is Mrs. Chippy Park. Do make use of the playground equipment there! As Uncle Jack says, “If we don’t use it, who on earth will?”

WEDNESDAY HILL GHOST WALK ( SEASONAL ). Of course ghosts don’t really exist, but isn’t it awfully fun to pretend they do? Some of your fellow Wellies enjoy dressing up as ghosts and jumping out to say Boo! When they ask for your immortal soul, you’re supposed to ask them for sweets in return. It’s all part of the game!

THE PARADE. The Parade is where the posh and powerful mingle. Many government offices are headquartered here. The Parade also host monthly festivals that are open to the public ( though you are advised to “dress to impress.” )

PARADE DISTRICT CALENDAR OF EVENTS. The Parade District hosts a brisk schedule of events that are sure to delight! The island is easily accessible, and events are open to all.

HAPPY MASKS — THE LATEST TREND! Put on a happy face! Style-setter Davey Hackney has designed a mask that permanently turns your mouth into asa smile! “For the moment,” Hackney says, “these masks are quite pricey and only for the smart set.” However they’re sure to catch on with the common folks eventually. ( Hackney grimaces at the thought: “Then I shall have to wear something else on my face when that happens. Perhaps a shroud.” )

Neutral spaces are calming and can help us recharge when we’re feeling depleted. However, pared back spaces usually need a little lift, otherwise they can feel flat and dull. Adding pattern is the perfect way to energise a space.

Enter stripes and checks! These unflappable, geometric staples are a safe way to add a bold, striking element without tipping the balance out. If florals, animal print or organic patterns are stretching your aesthetic just slightly too far, then checks and stripes are the perfect alternative. Having said that, a graphic expression suits an exuberant maximalist interior just as well as a minimalist space!

Here’s a few tips for incorporating them into your space:

If pattern isn’t usually your jam, think again about including a striped or check rug into the space. The geometric nature of these patterns can instantly pull a space together. It and create visual interest to a room without being overpowering.

If you want the to make a statement but don’t want to be too dramatic about it, then a throw a few gorgeous striped cushions on your sofa – the impact is real!

Think outside the living room and add some fabulous checks to the bedroom. A check quilt cover is a fabulous way to dive in and enjoy this trend. Adding some check towels to the bathroom feels like you’ve given it a makeover.

Contrasting

Keep in mind some contrasting scale, otherwise the patterns will complete with each other. For example, if there is a narrow stripe patterned quilt cover, then choose a fat bold check. That way there is contrast between the patterns and they sit well together.

Colours

The key to mixing in a stripe or check is to stick with a limited colour palette. Mixing stripes and check patterns adds life and a joyful tone to a room however when all of the patterns are different colours, it can look chaotic.

For a calm room, stick to stripes and checks in muted colours like nude, ochre and moss green that have less contrast. If you’re looking to create an exciting, joyful space then look to how the Memphis designers used bold colours such as yellow, lilac and cobalt blue.

Keep It In Check

Unless you’re going for a maximalist vibe, be careful of overdoing one pattern. If you’re considering a checked rug, then steer clear of also using checks in your soft furnishings, or furniture. And too many stripes – such as striped wallpaper combined with striped curtains – can create a dizzying effect in a room. So – focus on one or two key pieces which add impact, and leave it at that!

1. Bonnie and Neil

TDF faves Bonnie and Neil design and screen print all their textiles by hand at their workshop in Reservoir. These checked cushions come in on-trend wisteria, tan or citron shades for the perfect punchy addition to any space.

2. Annie Coop

Shortlisted in the Textile category of TDF Design Awards 2020, emerging textile designer Annie Coop makes gorgeous, colourful prints inspired by Spain. She translates her stripy designs to wallpaper if soft furnishings don’t quite fit!

3. Kelly Wearstler

American interior design wonder Kelly Wearstler has recently debuted a range of bold, striped timber furniture. Go big with a dramatic dining table, or bold but understated with a stool or bench.

The Toppu range of handmade ceramic vases, trays and pots from Danish brand Oyoy Living Design come in soft caramel and rose stripes for a more subtle addition. Perfect next to their selection of diagonally banded cushions in muted shades! Available locally at Sisalla.

6. Sarah Ellison

The La Banda furniture collection from Byron Bay-based designer Sarah Ellison sees a screen, console and side table made from ash and walnut timber wrapped in stripes of earthy tones.

7. Buchanan Studio

This plush, squishy armchair from British makers Buchanan Studio is covered with striped Belgian linen screen-printed in London. Definition statement piece!

8. Baina

It wouldn’t be a round-up about stripes and checks if it didn’t include Baina! The cult New Zealand bath and beach towel burst onto the scene early last year with its finger firmly on the pulse of this oncoming trend. Choose from a range of patterns in bright or muted colours.

9. Lucy Tolan

Newly graduated student ceramicist Lucy Tolan makes ceramic vessels from porcelain paper clay and handpaints them with chunky checks. She even breaks her glazed forms in to pieces and glues them back together with the seams between each shard forming a fine textured grid. Her bold colours make these pieces a statement choice!

10. Curio Practice

Curio blankets are bringing checks back, big time! Their super soft blankets are manufactured in one of the last remaining local knitting factories in Melbourne. Each colourful design is made with 1.9 kilograms of high-grade Australian merino wool.

11. SoftEdge

Quite possibly the breakout ceramicist of 2020, Layla Cluer (aka Softedge Studio) handprints her wavy, checked platters, bowls and plates from her studio in Byron.

P0ly consists of a young couple who used to work in fashion and gardening respectively and now handmake these cult-status tiled side tables, consoles and coffee tables from their Northcote home. Customise the coloured grout for a fun detail!

13. Lucy Montgomery

This Sydney-based stylist, designer and editor has drawn on her 10 years of experience in magazine publishing to create a new line of timeless homewares. Lucy Montgomery cushions, pillows and bedsheets are sophisticated, classic and even a little bit nautical, for a simple coastal look.

14. Mellow Ceramics

Melbourne ex-pat Elise G Wilken makes these beautiful porcelain vessels in NYC, but they can be purchased locally at Pan After. The brown and cream colours make for an earthy, less vibrant option.

15. Thekla

Thekla table linens are handmade in Sydney from deadstock, vintage or small batch fabrics. Tablecloths and napkins in gingham or a French-style farmhouse stripe are the ultimate summery, European vibe.
