MMK Title: “Pader”
My very first 16km run at the CCM32 Leg 2 Challenge Event held at Filinvest Mimosa Clark + Leisure City with the best crew!!! 🫶🏻🤘🏼🥰 Thanking God coz He the real MVP. We did it!!
Four days before the run, I got sick. Had an unexplained fever, I thought it was dengue because I had a lot of mosquito bites. We just came back from Thailand and I got paranoid. Thank God, mukhang lagnat laki lang naman. Because it went away after two days. It was about this time that I started to get this funny feeling in my stomach (feeling ko mej naaanxiety na ako), if I’m really prepared for a 16km run. We were able to squeeze in two 5km jogs, and one 3km brisk walk but that’s just about it. Yun na yung preparation. Di na nakatakbo, jog, or even brisk walk ulit after that fever. Sabi ko, “Lord, I’m just praying for a safe run. Basta yung lahat po kami okay, happy gv lang, and wala pong maiinjure.”
After race thought: Do you believe in miracles? Cause I got one today. 🥹
Who would’ve thought that packing this loads of extra weight in my body and the little training that I have, that I’ll be able to endure 15.5kms without walking. With the famous pader route? My friends keep telling me na ang galing, yakang-yaka… Realizing now what an achievement that was, I can’t help but get emotional. Especially when my 5-time marathon finisher friend messaged me in the afternoon, telling me that she’s so proud of me. I have the best (can I say bestest?? 💯) support group. And this friendship, these people will always be a part of why I’m grateful every day.
I remember taking a shower and getting ready for work the next day and *a tear fell ako.
Even though I struggled with that last kilometer, it’s more than okay. I had to walk a little because my right lower back, legs, feet, and knees are starting to hurt, the sun was up, it was hot, shining directly to our skins, by that time there’s not much wind, it was quite a blur —but I was able to finish strong! Had to push myself just a little bit for that blue carpet heading towards the finish line. What an experience! Been so longgg. Another blessed Sunday indeed. All glory to Him. 🙏🏼

CALOOCAN CITY, April 22 (PIA)--On Monday, April 20, Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso eagerly announced in his official Facebook Page that the We Heal As One Center - Ninoy Aquino Stadium discharged a Covid-19 survivor, after the patient tested negative for the disease twice.
The patient happens to be a resident of Manila and is the first patient to be released from the quarantine facility that admits Covid-positive patients with mild or no symptoms.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar who was instrumental in the establishment of the facility was also elated about the first recovery in the facility.
“We’re happy that the patient has been discharged from the facility and can already go home and be with her family. We hope and pray to hear more news of recoveries soon. We also thank our brave frontliners from the Armed Forces of the Philippines Medical Corps who have been taking care of the patients here round-the-clock,” Villar said.
Meanwhile, Presidential Adviser for Flagship Programs and Projects and BCDA President and CEO Vince Dizon said, the government is very proactive in its strategy to ‘locate, isolate, and cure’ suspected and probable cases to save more lives and control the contagion.
“We are confident that we will see more recoveries in the comings days and weeks,” Dizon said.
Leading the government's efforts in the establishment of We Heal As One Centers is National Task Force Covid-19 chief implementer and Presidential Peace Adviser Secretary Carlito Galvez, Jr., Health Secretary Francisco Duque III, Department of Public Works and Highways Task Force on Augmentation of Healthcare Facilities led by Undersecretary Emil Sadain, Secretary Villar and Secretary Dizon.
The 112-bed Ninoy Aquino Stadium was finished in less than a week by private partners Prime BMD and Bloomberry Cultural Foundation, Inc. of the Razon Group. The government also partnered with the Villar Group and EEI Corp. in providing construction workers and beds for the facilities, as well as with the Boysen Philippines, Inc. in making the facilities color-coded for the protection of the medical staff.
The other We Heal As One Centers that are operational and ready to accept patients are the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) Forum Halls and World Trade Center in Pasay City, the ASEAN Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga, and the National Government Administrative Center and the Athletes’ Village in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac.
Also to be completed soon are the Philippine Sports Arena or ULTRA in Pasig City, the Philippine Arena in Bulacan, and the Filinvest Tent in Muntinlupa. (BCDA/PIA-NCR)

Josh & I flew home to the Philippines to continue our adventures together. We had a busy month planned for March where we had a lot of local travel and new adventures in store.
Dumaguete
Known to our generation as Dumzville and later on Dumaghetto (and more recently, as per Twitter, Dramaguete), our hometown is a small and laid back city. It is a relatively artsy place serving as a second home to a lot of university students from different parts of the country. When my friends here in Canada ask me what we do for fun back home, it can always be summarized with two words: eating and drinking.
Catching up with my girlfriends
Korean softshell tacos @ Alima Cafe
Official Instagram: @alimacafeofficial
The food culture in Dumaguete is phenomenal, considering that it’s not that huge of a city. It caters to a wide variety of cuisines such as Korean, Tex-Mex, Spanish, fusion and so much more.
Authentic Korean food @ Soban Restaurant 🇰🇷
Our favourite, fish ice cream (does not contain actual fish) 🍦
Food talk aside, our time in Duma was also primarily spent catching up with good friends. Since Josh & I more or less run in the same circle, a lot of our friends are mutual so we get to see them together without the hassle of planning and organizing. Some friends we know all the way back from high school (for me, some even as early as pre-school) and others are friends we both met in college.
Dinner with the “Brios + Ate Joey”
Out on the pool with the girls ⛱
The boys! 🍻
Manila
Our country’s capital, Manila is a bigger and busier city compared to our hometown. It’s a good place for shopping and the party scene is also pretty tight.
We were there for a few days to meet up with some childhood friends that were now based in the city, as well as to attend the annual Wanderland Music & Arts Festival. We stayed at the Crimson Hotel which was situated within walking distance from the venue of the event, which that year was held in Filinvest City, Manila.
Ready to wander ✨
Room service
The festival itself was fun, local bands like Up Dharma Down and Gab + John of Urbandub, had everybody singing and dancing along. The international line-up was also very impressive. Acts like Honne, Lany & The Ting-Tings rocked the stage and had everyone on their feet, screaming their hearts out.
There were also some games and other forms of entertainment within the area so there was always something to look at. For food, there were a lot of stalls available with really tasty and convenient (handheld: pizza, hotdogs, food in bowls or cups 🥡) so you could still eat without having to worry about finding a spot to sit. It was there, actually, where I discovered the Poke bowl (not related to the Pokémon catching contraption), which is generally a deconstructed sushi roll in salad/rice bowl form.
The main stage.
Warm smiles and neon lights. 💚
Cute wrist bands!
Some Honne lyrics to light up the night 🌙
After the festival, we spent the last few days around the city checking out some of the trendy places to grab a bite. We also managed to meet and catch up with two of my closest girlfriends Kate & Korina, who are both in Manila for medical school.
Retro vibes are real! 🍭
Group photo sesh!
My girls 💕
El Nido, Palawan
After a semi-hectic couple of days in the big city, our next destination gave us our much needed one-on-one time with nature. El Nido has gained so much popularity recently as a top tourist destination. With the white sand beaches and the famed island tours, you could book a full Maldives-vibed vacation for a fraction of the price.
The Trio! 💚
Boats of different shapes and sizes.
My sister joined Josh & I and we made our way to Palawan via a short flight from Cebu. Once you reach the capital, Puerto Princesa, it then requires a 5-6 hour drive (depending on how fast the driver is going) to reach the town of El Nido.
The long journey was then soon rewarded by the spectacular view. Despite the number of tourists in the area, it wasn’t very crowded to the point of claustrophobia. The island tours were organized well (you had a choice between four types) and the boats were in abundance. Each tour had a guide and hot lunch served in the boat.
Turquoise waters 🌊
A wonder of nature
Lunch is served!
We spent two days to explore the islands, taking advantage of two of the four tour options. There were various activities in the itinerary including rafting, exploring a cave, chilling at a sand bar and a quick hike up to get a bird’s-eye view of one of the islands.
Rafting!
DarthQua Man
Sister selfie! 👯♀️
Despite being a short visit, our hearts were full by the end of our trip. It wasn’t perfect and there are things (with regards to the planning) that we would definitely do differently next time, but all in all we had a great time. On to our next adventure! 🌏
March 2017 | Beaches 🌞 + Wanderland 🌈 Josh & I flew home to the Philippines to continue our adventures together. We had a busy month planned for March where we had a lot of local travel and new adventures in store.

Clark airport’s new passenger terminal turned over to DOTr, BCDA
#PHnews: Clark airport’s new passenger terminal turned over to DOTr, BCDA
CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga – The new passenger terminal building of the Clark International Airport has been officially turned over to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) by Megawide GMR Construction Joint Venture.
In ceremonies held on Friday at the airport site here, Megawide handed over the certificate for the completion of the Clark International Airport new passenger terminal building’s engineering procurement and construction (EPC) works to the DOTr and the BCDA, marking the official handover of the facility to the Philippine government.
After the symbolic rites, the DOTr and BCDA officially turned over the operations and maintenance to the Luzon International Premier Airport Development (LIPAD) Corporation, the operator of Clark International Airport, for final fit-out prior to opening and full operations within the year.
The new passenger terminal building can accommodate 8 million passengers on its opening year, almost tripling the airport's capacity from the current 4.2 million to 12.2 million annually.
"When we envisioned this project, nobody believed that we can make it happen. There were doubts and skepticism which may have defeated us along the way and hindered the completion of our goal. However, our determination and resolve were much stronger than any disbelief. Now, they will finally believe," said DOTr Secretary Tugade in his speech delivered by Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Director General Jim Sydiongco, who represented the Secretary during the ceremony.
“This important milestone will be forever etched in our history as a lasting legacy of the Duterte administration. Our gathering today marks another fulfillment of the promise of improved life for all,” he added.
Newly elected chair of the House Special Committee on Bases Conversion, Congressman Aurelio Gonzales Jr., likewise underscored the Clark International Airport’s role as a catalyst of progress.
"We envisioned this to be Asia's next premiere gateway which will help foster economic growth. This is indeed a testament of the government's goal in making Clark the next premiere metropolis of Asia and putting our country one step closer to progress and prosperity," Gonzales said.
Former President and current Presidential Adviser on Clark Flagship Programs and Projects Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo cited the significance of the project and its contribution to the country’s economic growth.
Clark Development Corporation (CDC) vice chairman of the Board of Directors Retired Lt. Gen. Benjamin Defensor read the remarks of former President Arroyo, saying that “This airport is the flagship of how I envisioned Subic-Clark when I was a President: a competitive logistics and service center in the southeast Asian region."
The 110,000 square-meter Clark International Airport new passenger terminal building is a joint project of DOTr and BCDA and is the first hybrid public-private partnership (PPP) project under the Build, Build, Build program of the Duterte administration.
It is located within the Civil Aviation Complex of the Clark Freeport Zone where its construction is the first phase of the airport's expansion.
The Megawide GMR Construction Joint Venture, which won the contract for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the terminal, started construction on the facility in 2018, and completed the project in October 2020.
Megawide Construction Corporation chairman and CEO Edgar Saavedra, through assistant vice president and head of Group Corporate Affairs Jason Torres, said in his message, "We are very proud to once again be involved in one of the most vital airport projects of this administration, and its undertaking to create an effective multi-airport strategy in Luzon."
BCDA senior vice president for conversion and development Joshua Bingcang, for his part, said that the completion of the airport terminal reiterates BCDA’s commitment in making Clark the next premier economic hub in Asia.
"The construction of the Clark International Airport New Terminal Building was done in record time. We are very excited for the facility to finally operate this year, as it will not only decongest the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Metro Manila and enhance the passenger experience for the Filipino people but will also boost economic growth here in Clark and of the whole region,” Bingcang said.
The world-class airport serves as a major gateway for Luzon, one of the solutions to the congestion of NAIA. It will be connected with the PNR North-South Commuter Railway and the Subic-Clark Railway. Its architecture is inspired by the Sierra Madre mountain range, and is designed to be disaster-resilient as well.
LIPAD Corporation, which was awarded the 25-year concession agreement for the operations and maintenance of the Clark International Airport, expects to complete its fit-out works and interior finishes and start operations by July 2021.
LIPAD CEO Bi Yong Chungunco, in her speech, said that it is high-time for the airport to have a new passenger terminal building.
"We hit four million passengers. And that's why, it is time for us to move into this new terminal, with a capacity of 8.2 million passengers," she said.
She expressed excitement over the operationalization of the new terminal saying, "we believe Clark International Airport is a major growth driver for the Central and North Luzon. Thus, getting the new terminal ready will contribute to our country's economic recovery".
LIPAD Corporation is the consortium of Filinvest Development Corporation, JG Summit Holdings Inc., Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions Inc., and Changi Airports Philippines (I) Pt. Ltd. (PNA)

New French Cafe Baker J Opens in Crimson Manila
While most of our local hotels are still closed for leisure staycations, a lot of them have been focusing more on their in-house restaurants and establishments which can still cater to the public. I have found myself frequenting hotel restaurants more often these days because you can be sure about their health standards and safety protocols. That’s why I made sure to check out this new cute French Cafe in Alabang which opened its doors just last weekend.
Baker J is a full-service restaurant which opened last June 19, 2021 at the ground floor lobby of Crimson Hotel Filinvest City. From its humble beginnings as just a virtual and online patisserie in 2020, Baker J has now opened its doors to diners who are longing for edible joie de vivre. I had not been to Crimson Hotel since the pandemic started, so it was nice to be back at our favorite staycation hotel in Alabang, even for just a cafe visit. Baker J is open daily from 6:00am to 9:00pm offering its guests a delightful French culinary experience. From morning coffee runs to French-inspired lunch and dinner with friends, Baker J is a cozy rendezvous spot at any time of the day.
At the helm of Baker J is Crimson Hotel Filinvest City’s French Executive Pastry Chef Nicolas Pasdeloup who makes sure that "life is full" with good food and good company. With stringent health and safety measures in place for both diners and staff, Crimson Hotel has made the place very inviting with their selection of artisan breads, pastries, gourmet tartines, and decadent cakes baked fresh daily. You can find these displayed at the counter right as you walk inside.
The interiors of Baker J are chic and cozy, which is suited for casual dates or small family get-togethers. We came in for an early dinner last weekend and there were a couple of families spending a lovely Sunday afternoon there.
You can choose to sit at the comfortable and relaxing sofas if you will just be having some drinks and light snacks. Baker J offers a variety of hot and cold beverages such as coffee, tea, hot chocolate, espresso, latte, frappes, juices, summer drinks, and more.
Families and groups with lunch or dinner plans can stay at their semi-private area which offers a bigger space for all your orders and provides a cozy and enjoyable experience.
We started our early dinner with some refreshing beverages to cool us down. The Raspberry Vanilla (P220) is a great option with its frozen combination topped with generous amounts of whipped cream. Other Baker J Frappes to choose from are the dark chocolate chip frappe, sea salt frappe, and the matcha strawberry frappe.
I also tried their Baker J Detox line. The Moringa Reset (P170) is a healthy combination of moringa, ginger, cucumber, apple, and lemon.
A complimentary bread basket with butter was also provided on the table to whet our appetites before our main orders arrived. This is a welcome addition for any thirsty or hungry traveler.
Aside from their baked goods featuring classique and nouveau French offers, Baker J now also boasts of an extensive menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Inspired by the restaurant’s philosophy, the J in Baker J stands for “Je suis”, which means “I am” in French. Baker J starts the day with its breakfast dishes which are only available from 6:00am to 10:30am. These include delectable items such as eggs benedict, shakshouka, classic French toast, pancakes and waffles.
Fortunately, the Brussels Waffle (P250) is also included in their All-Day Breakfast Menu so we were able to order it that afternoon. The full-sized waffle comes topped with mangoes and apple puree plus whipped cream and raspberries on the side. I liked how the waffle was prepared, with its texture being soft but lightly crispy.
Baker J is reminiscent of casual and comfortable Parisian cafés — brimming with life and great food. Diners can come and relax while enjoying their food and each other’s company, catching up with loved ones and colleagues after more than a year of sheltering at home. And there’s nothing like a great meal to bring people together.
We also ordered their French Onion Soup (P300). This hearty bowl came with caramelized onion and gruyere cheese croutons, then served with artisanal bread. It was quite a heavy dish with all that bread inside the bowl.
My favorite item that afternoon was the Pan Seared Salmon Steak (P520) served with ratatouille. This was cooked magnificently with the very soft and tender salmon enveloped by a crispy outer crust. The fish was perfectly done with just some light salt and tomato sauce highlighting its natural flavors.
My husband ordered the Steak Au Poivre (P700) or pepper steak for himself. This main dish came with mashed potato and buttered French beans. He didn’t imagine that he would be eating steak for dinner inside a cafe, but Baker J offers this and a couple of other main dishes for those with a bigger appetite.
For desserts, just take a look at the display counters to find your favorite sweets and pastries. We asked for some Chocolate Eclairs and Macarons to cap off our French culinary adventure.
But we also made sure to bring some items back home to Manila. Aside from colorful pastries and homemade jams, Baker J also offers some charming souvenirs and knick knacks to brighten up your days. Surprise someone by bringing home a cute Baker J Teddy Bear (P550) or one of their cups and tumblers.
As a Welcome Treat, guests can get a 30% discount on their total bill when they dine at Baker J until June 30, 2021.
