National Day for Truth and Reconciliation has always been something that doesn't sit right with me, but this year I find myself being especially bothered.
From the jump, Canada has decided to hold itself accountable for what it's done to us by giving itself the day off. Meanwhile Indigenous folks are forced to:
Perform our indigeneity and trauma for a largely non-Indigenous audience.
Be constantly reminded of our traumas - and non-Indigenous people's ignorance or performative sympathy - every time we open up our e-mails, social media, and more.
Provide support to our friends, family, and community to make up for the programs and services that are shut down.
Still do homework, go to school/work, pay rent and more on October 1st.
IRL I'm a counsellor, one of two specifically hired to serve a particular Indigenous population at a large institution that I don't feel safe enough to name. While this used to be a day of healing and community, this year I have noticed a significant shift in the way that my clients are experiencing this event. In the weeks leading up to this day, and likely the week after, many of my clients have come to me mid-breakdown and talked about how this day has become more painful, more burdensome, and more effort for them as it has continued.
I'll just be honest. I would have had the day off today. I probably should have kept that boundary but when another Indigenous person, not a counsellor, in my workplace asked me to provide counselling supports during an event on this day I felt like I couldn't say no. It was like pulling teeth to get my leaders to ask a second counsellor to work the event with me. I'm getting lieu time, but I think the second counsellor is not.
The event I'm providing counselling at today is for the general public, or in other words, for non-Indigenous people. My clients won't be there because they don't want to perform. My clients will be struggling and healing with their own families, communities and ceremonies on this day. I won't be with my own family because of this event, and I won't be working for my clients - who are also my community- because our services are closed.
So yes, it's my responsibility as an Indigenous person to learn how to say no to these things. Last year I had an Indigenous supervisor who fielded this request and helped me to maintain my boundaries. She retired and has been replaced by a non-indigenous person who doesn't have the contextual knowledge to understand the conflictual relationship Indigenous people have with the asks that come related to this day.
But, beyond my individual responsibility to protect myself and my clients - why is my institution holding this event in the first place? Why not host an event that actually benefits Indigenous clients and staff - or pay the extra stat pay to keep services open so Indigenous clients still have access to the things that help them through such a difficult day?
I'm tired and angry already and it isn't even 11:00am.
P.S.
For those who aren't aware there is a difference between the national holiday and "Orange Shirt Day" despite the Canadian government's effort to bulldoze over the one created by an Indigenous woman in favour of their white-washed day off.

"You're so gentle," she tells me. They all say it. I hear it from my patients every time I take their arm to wrap the blood pressure cuff around it, or when I place my stethoscope on their belly, or when I rub circles into their back when I've helped them sit up on the side of the bed for the first time in three days. Sometimes they cry, because it's the first tender touch they've felt since they've been in the hospital. It's very humbling and at the same time very concerning -- why has no one else offered this tenderness to you? Why am I always the first?
But I don't feel gentle. Not when a pair of ribs are cracking beneath my hands as I'm doing chest compressions on a Covid patient who's stopped breathing--the second time I've administered CPR on a Covid patient in two days. I don't feel gentle when I'm wrestling with a patient and begging for them to keep their oxygen mask on. When I have to hold them down and hold them still so my coworker can draw a blood sample. I don't feel gentle when I'm inserting a nasogastric tube down someone's nose, then throat, and into their belly while they're gagging around the tube and their arms are flailing. And I don't feel gentle when I'm washing a sacral wound with bleach and they're crying because it hurts. I don't feel gentle when I have to shout, beg, and plead for patients to listen, when I tell patients they're going to die if they don't keep their oxygen mask on. I don't feel gentle when I have to place a patient in restraints, or when I call a family member and tell them that their loved one's condition hasn't improved. I don't feel gentle when a patient tells me they can't breathe, they can't breathe, I can't breathe, and I'm yelling for coworkers to call the doctor while I'm cycling through different oxygen masks and trying to administer medication to slow their respirations and calm their anxiety.
I'm writing this because I feel like I've been living a little bit behind a veneer on here, although I know deep down that's not really true; I have always wanted my blog to feel like a positive space for anyone and everyone, including myself. I come here to have fun and destress and that's why you usually don't see me reblogging content having to do with politics or global news. I think it's possible to create a healthy space where one does talk about those things and spreads awareness for important causes, but for me, Tumblr is where I come when I need to escape the harsh realities of real life. This is my platform where I can indulge in my fictional proclivities and interests, where I can appreciate art, photography, beautiful writing, my favorite films, music, and cute animals. That's what this space is about. I also have loved meeting new people and getting to know my readers and making new friends and chatting about my stories. That's why I'm here and I thank you all so, so much for indulging me in my passions and for encouraging my writing the way that you have: it has helped me weather the current storm of stress I am feeling in more ways than I could possibly convey.
But I have to be very honest with you all about how much I've been struggling lately, as I feel like I'm reaching a breaking point and I'm somewhat at a loss for how to handle it.
Since September of last year, I've been on an accelerated track to finish the degree I'm working towards, which is a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. I've been a nurse for four years, but I graduated from a two-year nursing program versus a four-year program because I wanted to get into the field earlier than some of my peers, which has been great. Anyway, my school counselor/mentor and I agreed that I could obtain my BSN in a year if I really pushed myself. The program I'm in is self-paced, which has been both a blessing and a curse. Most of my classes I have finished in about three to four weeks. Other classes, like biochemistry, took substantially longer, about seven or eight weeks, if I remember correctly. All of the classes have relied on my ability to self-teach, as there are no scheduled lectures to attend, only assigned readings and videos to watch, if you choose to do so. Fast forward to the end of May, when I went to visit some family, and, upon my return home, really started to lose some of my motivation to complete my classes. I was meant to finish my program in August (this month) but agreed with my mentor that I would take a short break and put my last three classes on hold so that I could resume the program in September. I've enjoyed approximately a month off from school, but "enjoyed" is a term I use loosely here as I was also picking up extra shifts at work because we've been so short staffed and losing nurses left and right.
Which brings me to the main cause of my stress. This pandemic has completely changed the landscape for how I administer care to my patients, and the stress of the care itself has been so utterly overwhelming at times I can hardly bear it. I broke down in tears at work on Sunday morning, shortly after 4:30 am, right there at the the nurse's station, and was sobbing so hard that my supervisor had to pull me away so that I could have some privacy. I wish I could tell you that I sobbed harder than I have in a long time--but I had sobbed at work with that same intensity just four weeks prior, only, I had been alone at the time. It's becoming a trend--I either cry at work or I cry at home--because the stress of this job has become unbearable.
I wish--I desperately wish--I could convey to you the seriousness of Covid. I think so much of the world has already decided to move on from it because they're so tired of having to deal with it and, quite simply, are ready to return to normal. I don't even know what normal is anymore and when--or if--we'll ever be able to return to it. And that has caused me a fair amount of stress and anxiety in and of itself. I miss traveling so much and I don't know when I'll be able to do it again. I haven't seen one of my best friends since the fall of 2018 for this reason, which kills me.
I've seen so much death. Transferred so many patients to the PCU and ICU. Frantically chased patients' oxygen saturation, trying to keep them from circling the drain. Being responsible for six or seven human lives at one time is a stress you cannot fathom unless you have done it yourself. I have cried with a patient, a young woman, who had lost her husband to Covid only hours before in the ER, a young woman who was now faced with battling Covid herself but also planning the funeral of her high school sweetheart from her hospital bed. I have wheeled a patient to the ICU so that he could say one final goodbye to his wife--married for over 50 years--before they pulled the plug and removed her from the ventilator. I have raced down the hallway with my patient on BIPAP, pushing his bed to the ICU and praying that he doesn't stop breathing on the way there. I've had to console crying family members over the phone who are worried about their loved ones, not to mention my crying coworkers who are as overwhelmed as I am. These are just a handful of experiences from the past month alone. There are so many more.
The discomfort of my job has become secondary. I expect, now, to be wearing an N95 for a full twelve or thirteen-hour shift because there isn't time to take it off. Not having a chance to pee or go to the bathroom during that time. Not drinking any water until I'm in my car and taking off my mask and finally taking a deep breath.
On a more personal note, I am continuing to lose weight and it's so discouraging. In high school I used to wear a size 2 or 4. Now, depending on the brand, I wear a double 00. My hair is falling out because of my stress. I haven't slept during the night in... I don't even know how long. I'm constantly tired. Exhaustion hits me like a great tidal wave and I am powerless to stop it. I expect now to crash during the middle of the day on my couch, only to wake up at 11pm and be wide awake for the rest of the night, and, if not wide awake, then in an out of nightmares and sleep paralysis. I have thought about leaving my job, but the idea of job hunting during a pandemic, and while I'm in school... it just makes me feel even more stressed.
I need a break, but it feels like there's nowhere to go to escape. I fantasize about some great adventure, going somewhere I've never been, but I also really miss my family and I'm scared to go home to visit.
This post doesn't really have a conclusive ending. I'm just exhausted and overwhelmed. Any prayers/thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Irreverent Pt. 58 - Golden Age
Title: Irreverent Pt. 58 - Golden Age
Pairing: Aaron Hotchner x Reader Rating: M Words: ~5K
Irreverent Series Masterlist
You stare at the closed door to McKinney's office, shifting once again in the seat. You'd been there for what felt like hours, though reasonably speaking it was closer to thirty minutes. Beside you, Aaron sat stoically calm, his shoulders pressed to the chair, back straight. He eyes you when you shift and reaches out, placing a hard on yours that was sat against the armrest. You meet his eyes for a second, knowing he was simply trying to calm the anxiety in your bones. It was no use – your gaze wanders back to the heavy closed oak door once more.
You'd arrived at McKinney's office early that morning, as directed to in the email sent by Gladys. Both Rossi and Aaron had received similar instructions and when you'd arrived, Gladys had waved Rossi into the room, stating that the Director would like to speak to him on his own first, and asked you and Aaron to take a seat.
You knew that McKinney and Rossi went way back. They'd done training together and worked in organized crime for a couple years before going their separate ways. You can only imagine that McKinney wanted Rossi's take on Pierce's take down and to perhaps run his ruling for you by someone whom he trusted and who would be able to comment on you personally. That was your hope, at the very least.
You knew Aaron thought the same as you, because he hadn't seemed put out by being told to wait. He too recognized that McKinney not delivering judgment against you in one fell swoop could only be a good thing. It meant he was thinking it over, getting other opinions. He'd had time to evaluate through the course of events and the idea was that he would see greater value in keeping you – see that everything you'd done had been strategic and purposeful.
Gladys had directed you both towards the coffee in the little waiting area outside the office, which you'd both politely declined. Now she was clattering away against the keyboard and fielding pretty much nonstop phone calls.
You turn your stare from the door, back to Aaron, whose eyes are fixed on you. He prompts you with a slight raise of his eyebrows, his hand still blanketing yours, thumb running back and forth soothingly.
"We should take another vacation," you whisper conspiratorially, speaking as though the idea of you two going on vacation together might scandalize someone listening in.
He bites back a smile but you can see the amusement dance across his eyes. He knows you're trying to distract yourself. Your shoulders are still taut and you've barely glanced away from McKinney's door since the two of you sat down. "Where'd you have in mind?" he asks, leaning down towards you and matching your covert tone. If a distraction was what you needed, then he'd play along.
"Bora Bora is nice this time of year. Hawaii maybe. Somewhere tropical with a childcare center," you joke, easily planting images of you and him on a beach by yourselves into Aaron's head.
"Better yet, an adults only resort," he smirks back, sitting straight once more, his eyes facing straight.
You're the one who has to bite back the smile now. He'd responded with barely a glance at you. Onlookers might've thought he'd commented on the weather. Only you could guess at the thoughts running through his mind right then – waves and sand, you in skimpy bathing suits, the two of you alone without having to worry about waking Jack up...
God it had been forever.
You can feel yourself become heated and have to stop that train of thought short, reminding yourself that you're still seated outside the Director's office, awaiting what is at best a disciplinary hearing and at worst a dismissal notice.
"We'll go," he promises, squeezing your hand gently.
You nod, leaning against his shoulder ever so slightly before straightening back up once more. Aaron had been quiet that morning, which you're chalking up to the solemnity of the occasion. The previous night had been quite a lot and you know that you're both still feeling a bit raw from it all. Better – in many ways. Stronger too. However that didn't mean that you expect everything to be washed away overnight. You imagine there's quite a few more conversations like that in your future. The work needed to help you both feel whole once more.
Already, you feel his eyes on you a lot more than ever before. Trained on you when you leave a room. Searching yours when you enter. Eyes trailing over the length of you. Ensuring that you're alright. Making sure that you're safe. Confirming that you're there.
*------------*
The door to McKinney's office opens and you both watch as Rossi exits. He turns to the both of you, obviously in attempt to speak, but before he can, he's directed by Gladys towards the door taking him outside of McKinney's lobby. Following her instructions, he walks out, nodding at both you and Aaron, his face betraying nothing.
"Agent Hotchner, the Director will see you now."
At Glady's instruction, Aaron stands rebuttoning the bottom button of his jacket, and with a quick, reassuring smile towards you, strides through the doors to McKinney's office, closing the door behind him.
"Agent Hotchner," Director McKinney stands to greet him, motioning towards the chair in front of his desk.
"Director."
Aaron takes a seat, sitting up incredibly straight, shoulders rigidly tense. He knows that McKinney asking to speak to him before he speaks to you has certain implications. Implications which, he fears, don't bode well if McKinney's goal is to prod at you choosing to reach out to him and the team rather than your direct supervisor on the project. If you would go around him once, chances are, you'd do it again.
Try as he might, Aaron hasn't been able to determine what exactly McKinney aims to get from speaking with him first. He hadn't been your superior on the assignment. Your personal relationship with him effectively negated anything Aaron could say in your favor.
"Aaron, I will cut straight to the chase." McKinney speaks authoritatively and plainly, his eyes focused on Aaron, betraying nothing of what he's thinking. Even to an experienced profiler such as himself. "Agent L/N broke numerous rules regarding the chain of command, defied security clearance protocols, and acted alone – entirely against Bureau training and procedure."
Aaron stays silent. McKinney hadn't said anything that wasn't true and they both knew it.
"However," McKinney continues, "I must concede that she drew results and ultimately is the reason why the threat to the Atlantis program was eliminated."
Aaron offers only a short nod in response, choosing to hold everything else close to his chest until required otherwise.
McKinney shuffles, placing his hands on the table and leaning in closer. "If this was one of your agents – and you did not share the personal relationship that you do in this situation – what would you do in my position?"
There it was.
Aaron would like to think that Director McKinney was being sincere in asking him. That asking him wasn't some sort of trick question, aimed towards discrediting you.
With a quiet shift, Aaron meets McKinney's gaze head on, and begins to speak slowly. "Director, I've made the mistake before of not trusting one of my agents. I vowed to never make that mistake again. Agent L/N, she's proven – time and again – that she makes the right decisions, no matter the complicated subject matter or the potential personal nature of the circumstances."
Aaron stops there. Less was more. He wanted to make sure whatever he said to McKinney would be impactful. Display the full breadth of his faith in you.
McKinney has a thoughtful look on his face as he contemplates Aaron's words.
In the silence that follows, Aaron's eye is drawn to the Director's American flag pin on the left jacket collar. He's never seen without it. While Directors in the past have worn the pin for formal events – public speeches, Congressional hearings, White House balls – McKinney is always seen with his. Aaron recalls in the early days, when McKinney had first taken the reins, the pin used to be different. It used to be a pin of the Bureau seal. Sometime after the events of September 11th, it had changed. Replaced by the American flag pin, proudly displayed no matter where he went.
Aaron sees McKinney's shoulders move up and then back down as the man releases a large breath, nodding as he does, seemingly having reached some sort of conclusion. Aaron is at a loss to determine which conclusion that might be.
He doesn't share his thoughts with Aaron.
"I've forwarded the video that Agent Garcia shared, on to the Director of Interpol," McKinney informs him. "They will be conducting an internal investigation. Agent Easter has already been stripped of all privileges and is currently on a suspension until further determinations regarding his negligence on the Atlantis case along with the results of the internal review can be made."
Aaron's glad to hear that Easter wouldn't be getting away entirely scot free. He has a strong feeling that, had things not happened exactly the way that they did, you wouldn't have reported Easter for what he did to you. Aaron – fortunately or unfortunately – knows you well enough to realize that there was a small part of you that considered what Easter had done, to be some sort of favor to you. Making you understand what was at stake. Preparing you for the worst. He doesn't need to hear you admit to it, in order to know that. Anything he said to the contrary would only result in you doubling down and insisting, that without him threatening Jack and Aaron, you might not have realized exactly how grave of a danger your role could pose to them.
You could be quite maddening in what you chose to direct your fury at. Easter lying to you was unforgiveable. Him torturing you – apparently par for the course.
"Thank you." Aaron nods his gratitude to McKinney, knowing that he is also being effectively dismissed as the Director moves to stand.
Standing as well, Aaron meets McKinney's outstretched hand across the table, shaking it quickly, before turning away and exiting the room.
*------------*
The door closes behind you with a heavy thud.
Aaron had nodded you in towards McKinney's office, electing to ignore Gladys's gesture to exit via the lobby and taking your recently vacated seat. He wasn't about to leave. He'd be there, waiting for you.
"Good morning Director." You offer a small smile and nod your greeting to McKinney, taking the seat in front of his desk.
Your shoulders are pulled back straight, you're meeting his unreadable gaze head on. Aaron hadn't been able to provide any insight into McKinney's thoughts before you were ushered in, so there you sat, awaiting the gauntlet.
You're fairly convinced McKinney will fire you. Aaron disagrees but you've had the unshakeable apprehension in your bones, that's grown into a nebula of dread. No matter your brave words to Aaron about saying no to Director Richards' offer and taking a break if you were indeed terminated, the actual thought of being dismissed is terrifying. What on earth would you even do? There were only so many bake sales to host and field trips to chaperone before you went postal.
"How are you doing?" he asks, leaning back in his chair and appraising you.
You feel McKinney's eyes run over you in an inspecting manner, lingering on your face. You know him well enough to recognize this as genuine concern on his behalf. Garcia had mentioned that she'd sent him the video they'd all seen of what Clyde had done to you. You're aware that McKinney would shoulder some of the blame for that on himself.
"Better," you answer cautiously, figuring that was close enough to the truth without being a mere perfunctory response.
He eyes you once more, letting the quiet wash over you both, forcing you to linger in that awkward tension of being examined by him. The seconds go by, marked by the loud click of the seconds hand on the clock mounted to the wall.
Deciding that he'd made you suffer long enough, McKinney leans in again, fingers interlaced on top of the desk carefully, deep set eyes focused on you alone. "So, you have a job offer from Artie?"
Who the hell was Artie?!
At the confused look on your face, he clarifies, "Director Richards – Arthur and I go back. Did you know that?"
You can see the suppressed smirk hidden beneath a veneer of professionalism as McKinney leans back in the chair once more, having left you to silently ponder at the incredulity of anyone referring to Director Richards as Artie and the sheer surprise at McKinney knowing about the job offer. When you'd considered them speaking, you hadn't thought that Richards would mention that. Though, it made sense. Tell your current boss that you have another offer. Make you look bad to McKinney, as though you'd been soliciting an offer from the CIA. Ensure that you'd want to leave for the Agency instead, by souring your relationship with McKinney.
"You call Director Richards…Artie?" It was the only thing you could think of to say, at a loss for much else.
"You think you're the only one he takes to fancy French restaurants?" This time, McKinney's words are accompanied by a real smile, one that you can't help but return.
*------------*
Aaron starts when the door to McKinney's office reopens and you exit. He'd had his gaze locked on the door ever since you disappeared behind it, anxiously awaiting the final decision. Despite his relatively good meeting with the Director, he didn't know what to expect as the outcome.
Your eyes lock with his, your expression entirely unreadable. Silently, you motion towards the exit with your eyes, the message clear. Whatever happened, you two wouldn't be discussing it there.
Aaron quickly stands, nodding towards McKinney's assistant when she looks up at the movement. He's quick to follow you as you make your way down the hallway, deftly moving past anyone in the hallways. He's loathe to ask what happened. The journey from McKinney's office has his heart beating fast, as he reckons with what news could have led to you moving through the hallways at such a pace, him struggling to keep up as you maneuver through a break room full of people, finally arriving at an unused office, into which you slip with him close behind.
You wait for him to enter, before shutting the door while he turns to look towards you. You've turned as well, back pressed against the door when Aaron finally has the chance to assess you properly.
Your eyes dart around the room, not meeting his. Your lips are pressed together.
Aaron feels the pit in his stomach tighten into a lead ball, weighing him down. It would be alright, he reminds himself. He had known you being let go was a possibility. The two of you have planned for this.
He releases a deep breath before he speaks. "What did McKinney say?"
Your tongue peaks out, running over your lips as you tilt your head to meet his eyes finally. Apprehension exuding from you as you nervously fidget with your hands. He sees you force yourself to swallow before you reply.
"He told me that I can hand in my official resignation from the BAU to you."
Aaron closes his eyes. He had thought, after his conversation with McKinney, that the Director had no intention of letting you go. He'd never been quite so off on reading someone.
Opening his eyes, he looks deep into yours. "Alright," he nods, attempting to reassure you as well as himself. "We knew this could happen." Already a thousand different scenarios are playing in his head – telling the team, next steps for you, what you're going to want to do after you grow tired of the break, maybe he needs to take a step back as well…
"We can appeal it, sweetheart," he reminds you. The two of you had discussed that as a possible option as well. He walks towards you, wanting nothing more than to hold you close to him again. "We can appeal – Rossi, Morgan, hell even Strauss would put in a good word for you. McKinney's word isn't final, and – "
Aaron breaks off his mile a minute speech, distracted at the sight of a smile twitching at your lips. Why were you smiling?
"He told me to hand in my letter of resignation to the BAU," you repeat yourself as he falters, trying to understand what you're saying. He asked you to give him the letter of resignation from the BAU…
"I'm getting my own team, Aaron," you whisper, as if you could scarcely believe it yourself.
You were getting your own team. You were getting…your own team.
"You're getting – " His mouth can't seem to quite get the words out as he watches your face split into a grin that his is slow to mirror.
Of all the possibilities that you'd considered, this had hardly been one of them.
"I'm getting my own team," you repeat, eyes focused fully on him. You have the largest smile he's ever seen on your face.  He can  feel that pit replaced by this bouncy feeling in his chest as he looks at your face –the bubble of the moment broken by the laughter and squeal that follows as he sweeps you into his arms.
This was good.
You were happy.
*------------*
"I think this is the last box," Aaron says, striding into your office, eyeing you cautiously as you're balanced atop your chair, trying to hang up some of the frames with your certificates on the wall.
You mutter a quick thank you, concentrating on hammering the nail in without hurting yourself by falling off of the wheeled chair. Aaron moves to start putting the books he'd brought up into the bookshelves, hovering close to you in case you did end up slipping.
It had been a week since McKinney had offered you your own team as a counter to Richards' offer from the CIA. Turns out, as long as you get results, the government tends to look the other way when you break any number of clearance regulations. Your conversation with McKinney in his office that day had been entirely centered around what he could do to ensure that you stay with the Bureau.
Intelligence and Threat Assessment, or the ITA, was a group within the Bureau that examined any number of domestic and international threats, analyzed changing political spheres, and partnered with the Justice Department, Congress, and external organizations to spearhead the American democratic manifesto. In short, that was the group that determined who was and wasn't an enemy.
McKinney had offered you your own team within that umbrella to tackle special cases that rose to the level of further assessment by or direct involvement of the Bureau. The sight of your name, followed by the words Unit Chief would never get old.
You'd had a busy week, settling back into regular life, catching up with everyone, and ensuring that you were spending time with Jack and Aaron once more. In that time, you'd also put out the word that you were building a new team and connected with the Bureau Human Resources department. Interviews were being set up. Thankfully you had one team member picked out – from your office, you can see the bullpen where your team will sit, Anderson's desk the only one occupied so far.
"So Strauss is retiring," Aaron comments idly, opening yet another box of items for you to decorate your office with.
You hum, encouraging him to continue, as you carefully get off the chair and grab one of the boxes, setting it on your desk. You'd long shed your blazer and the heels had come off ten minutes ago when Aaron had left to grab the last of the boxes. It was late anyways and you two were the last ones left, as you'd insisted on wanting to be all moved in so you could get a head start the following Monday. As soon as the two of you were done moving you into your new office, you couldn't wait to get home and sink into the tub.
"Rossi thinks it'll happen by the end of the month," he continues, handing you the box cutter you'd been searching for.
"Well, your only real competition could be external," you remark, handing him back the box cutter. You know that Aaron wouldn't have commented on Strauss's retirement if he wasn't considering the Section Chief position. With your new role keeping you closer to home a majority of the time, it would make your home life a lot more stable.
He makes a disbelieving sort of noise at your comment that has you smiling and rolling your eyes.
"Oh hush," you chide him, continuing to move things off of the box and into the shelf. "Now, if we have to consider the hiring committee for the position, then it'll be Wilson and Shaw – both of whom already like you – "
Aaron smiles as you start to lay out all the details for a role he's only mentioned in passing, but he knows that you will take entirely seriously. It's what you did. You planned and you executed and you achieved at a rate that was entirely remarkable.
" – Adams is a total pushover, and Rossi can probably help you out there –"
He smiles, nodding along to your strategizing, knowing you'd have Dave over for dinner soon enough and run Aaron's odds for getting the position by him and ensure that Dave would throw his weight around as needed.
"Davidson is the only one on the committee that'll pose any real issue, I suppose. I'm guessing you two haven't made nice yet after the Atlanta case?" You quirk a brow in his direction, asking a question that you already know the answer to. Really, it's your way of making sure he feels like he's part of the process, despite you being full systems ahead from the get go.
Aaron's forehead crinkles as he shakes his head.
"Yeah, I figured. Well, it's nothing to worry about. I heard from Lisa from research that he has a new girlfriend –  one that drives his ex-wife entirely insane. Garcia can do some additional digging and get some more dirt."
He makes a face at you, which you elect to ignore, continuing on with your plan for targeted subterfuge.
"We can have them both over for dinner. I just got that new shipment from the Napa winery and we can ask Eric to cook for us again. He can make that dessert, and based on what Garcia manages to find, Davidson shouldn't be terribly difficult to persuade. After all, how could anyone not love you." You throw him a coquettish smile and wink, your arms laden with books that you'd lifted out of the box.
Aaron can feel himself grow warm – you tend to have that effect on him with only the smallest of gestures. The ever faithful butterflies, his constant companions in the early days of the two of you entering into this relationship, have infiltrated his stomach with a vengeance.
"Once you're Section Chief, we can figure out Department Chief next. Carlton won't be around forever," you forge ahead, intent now on your plan to launch his career to the next phase and the next after that. Pretty soon you'd be planning world domination with him by your side. You'd manage to convince him that it was alright because he'd be the one in charge and he makes good decisions so why wouldn't the entire world simply bow to his will. No matter how ridiculous the notion or how bizarre the proposition, your faith in him was unyielding.
Aaron reaches into his pocket, feeling the sharp edges of the box there. It's been on hand this entire week since your return, just waiting for him to find the right time. His heartrate picks up, his hand grasping the box tight.
Your back is still turned to him as you continue to arrange the books on your shelf in order of subject and size, going up on the tip of your toes to reach the top shelf as your voice carries on. Something regarding convincing Carlton that he would be well suited for a jump to the West Coast offices, leaving the pathway wide open for Aaron's surge to the top.
"Do you remember," he interrupts, watching you carefully, "a while back, you said something to me. Something along the lines of, Director Hotchner has a nice ring to it?" He does his best to keep his voice casual, regulate his breath as he speaks.
You pause, the memory of that afternoon flitting into your mind. So early in your relationship, back when you'd thought that maybe, that would be something appealing to a man like Aaron – ambitious and righteous, wanting to protect and serve at the highest of levels. That had been before  – before you'd known, that for him, the BAU was the chance to put away monsters. It was a personal mandate that he couldn't disconnect himself from. Contending with the bureaucracy and politics that came with truly running the entire Bureau was not something that he found at all appealing. Despite all of your planning and machinations, you knew already that the best you could hope for with him would be Section Chief. He'd never leave the team further than that, no matter the number of steak dinners you served up.
"Yeah, what about it?" you ask, a bemused smile playing at your lips, wondering why he'd ask you that. He'd shot it down then, and you knew for a fact that it wasn't something he was about to begin entertaining now, despite the Section Chief role being a shift away from the BAU directly.
"I can't help but agree with you."
His voice was closer than it had been before, you can feel him right behind you. There's a prickling at the back of your neck, your brows furrowing in confusion as you attempt to decipher the meaning behind his cryptic words.
You turn, eyes widening at the sight in front of you.
Bent down on one knee, with the most beautiful ring in his hand. The gold in his eyes warm and sparkling for you. A hopeful smile on his face as he watches yours.
You could scarcely believe it as you struggle to meet his eyes, trying to string together something that sounded vaguely intelligible, while your lungs struggled to pull in enough air to keep you standing.
Your mouth feels dry and you have to force yourself to take a deep breath, licking your lips as you do. You push away the first question that comes to your mind – Are you sure? Of course he was. There was no doubting it. No doubting him.
When your eyes finally do meet his, your breath hitches, overwhelmed by the surrounding quiet, only the sound of your breath and your heart and the wondrous, exuberant buzzing of the sparks surrounding you in anticipation of the inevitable.
"You really think I'm going to be Director one day?" Your question is accompanied by an incredulous sort of laugh, the kind that causes his heart to skip a beat at the mere sound.
"I really do, sweetheart." His words carried with them a promise – he was pledging himself to you and anything you set out to achieve.
You feel yourself bound towards a feeling you haven't felt much as of late. Elation – that euphoric ecstasy that courses through your veins and causes your chest to beat wildly. You can do nothing but smile big and nod hard, for once, words completely failing you.
Aaron needs no further encouragement besides the sparkling note of your laugh, the effervescent joy of your nod as you reach for him and he rises. He's quick to slip the ring on your finger before his mouth meets yours, hands winding around his neck and pulling him as close as possible.
Hearts beating jubilantly in sync at the feel of his lips against yours and his arms around you, yours around him, and that persistent and everlasting feeling of belonging to one another in every manner possible.
When the two of you finally break apart, breathless, matching grins on both your faces, you can't help but ask. "How long has Jack known?"
He smiles, his eyes twinkling. "Since Paris."
You let out a breathless, short laugh. You can scarcely believe he'd been able to keep it from you that long. Though, looking back, a number of instances with Jack made a lot more sense now. The faint memory a shopping trip with him, sometime after Paris, when Jack had been quite taken with the window display of a wedding store.
"We might have to do a reenactment for him," Aaron jokes, keeping you close to him. He weaves his fingers through yours, admiring how the ring sits perfectly on your hand, sparkling just right in the light.
You laugh, tightening your hand in his. "Let's go home then."
Everything else could wait.

a guide to working in a group home !!
i absolutely love my job and the things i’ve learned from it. if you’re looking for a unique job for your next character , try this! it could also help if your character is living in / has lived in a group home! but take it with a grain of salt , because this is one house , in one company , in one state in one country! and lastly , my inbox is always open for questions! because there’s a lot i couldn’t fit in here.
terminology !
behaviors : problematic / unhealthy things that individuals do (ex: stealing, verbally abusing others, isolating )
skills : healthy things we encourage them to do , that they have expressed / signed off as something they want to work on (ex: cooking, walking, eating )
dbt : stands for dialectical behavioral therapy. this is group therapy where therapists teach individuals coping skills and distress tolerance. every client we have has to graduate dbt class and be in individual therapy , it’s in the contract.
charting : when members of the staff team write out a complete summary of each client during / at the end of their shift.
s.o. house : mental health group home for sex offenders. two of the three homes in my cluster are s.o. homes. they aren’t allowed to be around my clients.
dsp / ps / pd : direct support professional / program supervisor / program director ( more on these later ).
elope : when a client runs away or sneaks out and we don’t know where they are.
cluster : the group of houses under a pd’s direction. usually 3-5 houses.
prn : as needed medication , something that is not prescribed such as tylenol.
some quick etiquette : we call the people living in our group home with mental health, clients or individuals when we’re referring to them. when speaking to them or amongst each other we’ll call them by their initials.
general info !
when i say group home , it is literally a house. in the middle of a normal neighborhood. we’re the only group home on our block.
there are so many types ok. i work at a home for vulnerable adults with mental health. some of my co-workers come from homes with only nonverbal clients , from hospice homes , from homes with individuals with traumatic brain injuries or physical disabilities working to recover or having no one else to help them.
i have four clients that live in my group home. that is the max for my house ; others can hold more. they filter in and out. one of my clients has been in this group home for seven years. one just moved in last december.
they each have their own bedroom. they get to choose the paint for their walls and can decorate it however they want.
funding sucks. the pay sucks , most of our furniture & appliances are outdated. we have to buy the cheapest food possible to meet our budget , and the house is not in great condition. we get by , but the mental health field doesn’t have a lot of money.
our goal overall , for each client , is to get them out of here. we support them when they can’t support themselves , lift them up , help them learn coping skills & life skills until they’re equipped for independence and can move out.
my home is a 24 hour awake group home. we have to have a staff there , awake , 24 hours a day. other houses in our cluster have staff there all times of the day, but they can sleep during that time ( they pay is different of course ).
job structure !
alright , i can’t repeat it enough: this is just my company. i don’t know what the structure is like in others!
i’m at the lowest level , the least paid , but the most interaction and contact with clients : the direct support professional / mental health caretaker! i love it and wouldn’t want to take on any of the other jobs.
some of my jobs include : cooking for clients , cleaning the home , driving them places , sitting in on their therapy , mediating conflicts , teaching them coping skills , talking them through stressful times , helping them find resources. i am with them every second of my shift. they know me and the other dsps the best.
technically , there are SUPPOSED to be two dsps in the house at all times , but my house is really understaffed so we have three dsps , one for each shift , and the program supervisor is on sight with one of the dsps most of the time. the ps does: anything involving our clients’ finances , cleaning up biohazard things ,
above me, my boss, is the program supervisor. my direct boss. i don’t know how it works in other group homes but i work very closely with my ps. like i said , it might just because we’re understaffed and she’s with us all day everyday.
above them is the program director. my boss’s boss. i highly do not recommend this job. if your character has it , they are probably a very grumpy and broke person with no life outside of work. my pd is on call 24 hours a day and gets paid on salary. so , yeah. 0/10.
next is the area director , the ad. they are the boss of all the pds in a particular area. i’m not positive but i think there are four pds with their own clusters , under my area director. they usually do the hiring and communicate with the pd to negotiate , mediate and give permission for certain things.
and finally , the regional director. the regional director is in charge of 3-5 different area directors. they’re busy. we RARELY see them or hear from them. not quite sure what they do to be honest.
i do NOT know if there’s anything between this position and ceo. i have met the regional director only twice. and that’s just because the area director was on maternity leave + our house is high behavioral / violent.
the job !
we go through TONS of training. primarily first aid , self defense / holds / , 4-8 hour seminars on each disorder in our homes and de-escalation. we get certifications of this and every year we have to renew them and go through the entire trainings again..
my job is to mediate , caretake and entertain but i also have to track. u need an EXCELLENT memory for this job. and hey , i have a horrible memory so i use about half a stack of post it notes per day. it’s possible!
that being said , we track everything. the more descriptive the better. we write down notable things they said , what they were doing at what times , what prns they take during shift , what their mood is , what they eat. everything. we write it down and track it in the computer. the pd review the notes everyday.
individuals !
ok so my clients mainly come from two places: the hospital or jail. usually they are admitted into a group home program as a last resort because their families can’t take care of them or understand them.
when clients move out, it is usually to two places: the hospital or their own place. you can work with a client for months and they’ll end up losing it & being kicked out of the program / arrested. we like the other option better.
there are such a wide variety of disorders in the homes. my clients range from a constant state of psychosis from their schizophrenia , to an autistic epileptic with an intellectual disability , to a narcissistic kleptomaniac.
my clients have done terrible things in the past. when you learn of these things , you might look at them differently. a lot of staff quit after finding certain things out ( clients’ past crimes or traumas ) or seeing certain behaviors ( violence , eloping ). but here’s the thing: they are sick. there’s a reason they’re with us / in the hospital instead of jail. they did these things when their state of mind was NOT right. it is so important to separate them from what they’ve done or endured. we can’t be biased in this profession.
dynamics  !
there’s drama between clients. oh , there is. i have two clients who are very close. they team up on the other clients by intimidating them or straight up bullying them. we as staff have to interfere with this behavior and protect the clients from each other. but yeah. there’s drama.
they’ll hurt each other. they hurt us. my boss was shanked once. it happens.
i mentioned this earlier but we don’t ( and can’t ) hold this against them. we can’t hold grudges because it is their mental health that makes them act out and that’s why they are receiving our help.
we do get compensated for injuries and broken property ( glasses, etc )
we can and do call the police on our clients. they can and do call the police on us. one time a client called the cops on us because we were making fish for dinner. the police are very familiar with our house.
there are very strict boundaries between staff and clients , but some of us are with them all day every day. it’s natural that connections will form. but technically , we are not supposed to. but it always hurts when one of them graduates or leaves the program. it’s a really emotionally draining job in that way.
health !
we’re the first to get hit with pandemics. those long-term housing facilities you hear about getting covid ? yeah. that’s us.
group homes have lost their minds over the virus. i could write a whole guide on that alone , and the differences in another. what you should know is we take health risks VERY seriously. these are vulnerable adults. they will be the first to die of these diseases.
i won’t sugarcoat it ; most of my clients are not clean. they do not take care of themselves in terms of grooming or hygeine. this is for a couple reasons
the main being that this is their mental health. they either can’t / won’t get out of bed , are paranoid / afraid of it , or just hate us as staff and refuse to do anything we suggest no matter how good it might be for them.
the second ? we can’t drag them into the bathroom and make them wash their hands or shower. they do what they want , all we can do is make frequent suggestions for their health. we cannot force them to do ANYTHING. more on this later.
there are group homes that need to do toileting and bathing for their clients. we don’t at mine because we’re not a home for disabilities , but that means it stinks all the time and we go through a lot of febreeze.
laws  !
it’s their house, not staff’s. we get to the house , clock in, start our shift and leave when it’s over. we do the cleaning , the cooking , the shopping. but it is their house. they are paying rent for it.
we can’t force them to do anything. we can’t make them eat , we can’t make them take their meds , we can’t make them go anywhere. they have the right to refuse anything they want. and some of them will push our buttons just to see what will happen. the truth is ? we don’t care. we get to go home at the end of the day. it doesn’t affect us if they do or don’t do something , they’ll reap the consequences ( ie. getting fired if they stop going to work , being visited by the doctor if they refuse meds etc )
they have more rights than us. part of the reason tracking is so important is to save our own asses. if my client gets sunburned while i’m working and i don’t note that i offered sunscreen and they refused? i can get in HUGE trouble because that is neglect. we’ve lost many employees this way.
some clients have more restrictions than others. one of my clients has phone restrictions due to impulsive behavior, so we have to monitor her calls. the others can take the phone into their rooms and be private no problem.
writing !
if you’re writing a character who works in a group home , there is one absolutely essentially trait that they need to have to be successful in their job at a group home: patience. mental health clients can be vindictive , manipulative and downright bullies but we can by NO means retaliate , lose our temper with them , or hold grudges in anyway. we are de-escalating and talking calmly , every moment of our shift. that is SUPER important.
i touched on this a bit earlier , but this job is draining. you got pushed around & treated like crap by your clients everyday , cook & clean for them , etc. the pay sucks and the hours are long. if your character works here ? they are probably very tired. it’s hard not to bring the work home. you really do get attached.

How To Maintain Water Dispenser
Tumblr media
Presentation
Keeping up your water cooler distributor is critical, regardless of whether it is a significant assignment. You have to ensure that within is spotless, so it can help give delectable and crisp drinking water. On the off chance that you feel a few pieces of your gear need substitution, you can search for water cooler container new parts from the market and fix it right away. Additionally, cleaning a base stacking water allocator is very like cleaning a top-stacking machine.
Public security
There are a few kinds of cleaning arrangements accessible from cooler makers, just as chlorine and hydrogen peroxide. Severe control in clean techniques for keeping up water coolers and gadgets must be standard working strategy each time administration is delivered to keep up a sterile climate in the cooler.
In the early and center 1980s, part of my duties as an assistance expert/installer was to support water coolers. This included checking the coolers for releasing gaskets, broken administering valves and checking the refrigeration framework that cooled the water in the repository. Moreover, cleaning and disinfecting of the store and other wetted parts of the coolers was remembered for the upkeep program. It didn't take me long to understand that client schooling in how to deal with, store and supplant the five-gallon bottles was truly ailing in the plan of action. A gathering with the vendor's GM was not exactly reassuring. At the point when I inquired as to whether there was a standard working methodology for cooler assistance, he advised me to "simply continue taking care of your responsibility the manner in which you were prepared and all will be well." The issue was the preparation—or the deficiency in that department. In this way, I made a duplicate of an item establishment use and care control from another cooler to instruct myself. I considered it that evening and acknowledged there was significantly more that I had not been appeared in the consideration and support of the coolers. A call to the producer of the item was consoling in that they were extremely worried about the best possible establishment, startup and upkeep of their item and urged me to call them whenever for help.
I imparted my discoveries to the head supervisor after my course was finished the following day and he concurred that there was a lot to be done to guarantee the public security of the drinking water from these filtered water coolers. I was told to plunk down with one of the secretaries and build up a standard check list that should have been incorporated with each assistance request. The administration and deals staff was amassed and I experienced my recently made Hygienic Condition Report for Water Coolers with the other help specialists and deals staff. Alongside this new structure, a Cooler Field Manual was accommodated every expert for reference. At long last, a Hygiene Procedure was left with every client so their support work force would realize what was needed to guarantee a sterile cooler after each jug substitution. Each truck consistently conveyed restored and purified rental units to guarantee a clean cooler for the clients whose cooler required careful cleaning and cleansing at the business. The consequences of this new approach were more rental clients and a lot more joyful deals group. The business staff had duplicates of the Hygienic Condition Report, Hygiene Procedure and a synopsis of the Field Manual to show imminent tenants that their specialist organization took the strength of their cooler and individual prosperity truly.
Container establishment
How about we investigate the rudiments of the establishment and start-up of a filtered water cooler. In the wake of unloading the cooler and investigating for harm, set the cooler in an area that agrees to the producer's guarantee. This implies that the cooler and extra jugs must be situated in a non-unfriendly climate, including open air establishments or territories of high warmth or potentially dampness, direct daylight, dust, compound stockpiling and such. Examine the store for any pressing material, dust or different garbage and eliminate it. It is important to disinfect the supply and administering circuits upon startup to guarantee a cleanly perfect and clean cooler. Follow the producer's startup methodology. On the off chance that the cooler incorporates a chiller or potentially warming pot, ensure the force gracefully for the gadget is an appropriately grounded and captivated circuit. Never utilize an electrical string to give capacity to the cooler. On the off chance that the electrical container isn't advantageous to the area of the cooler, recruit a certified circuit repairman to introduce an appropriately grounded source close enough for the force rope provided with the cooler. Introduce the cooler on a level surface. In the event that the cooler was laid on its side for over 60 minutes, given the cooler stand access the upstanding and level situation for 12 hours prior to connecting it and turning it on.
Jug substitution
Significant! Continuously wash your hands completely prior to dealing with the water bottle. Wipe down the defensive cap, neck and top of the jug with a spotless fabric absorbed a frail arrangement of chlorinated water or a feeble arrangement of hydrogen peroxide and water. Allude to the maker's suggestion for guaranteeing sterile readiness of the container establishment. Dry the tank and neck with a different clean material. Wear latex gloves to forestall sullying the container.
Eliminate the vacant container from the cooler. Clean the highest point of the cooler to eliminate any residue or spill buildup around the container seal.
Review the store for any biofilm or bacterial development, particularly under the top edge of the supply. Note any terrible smell. Follow the producer's suggested plan for cleaning and disinfecting the repository and whole stream way of the water. Let the purifying arrangement represent 10-20 minutes (or maker's suggestion) to guarantee total purification. Channel the cooler of purifying arrangement.
Eliminate the defensive cap from the highest point of the container.
Utilizing the best possible lifting method, lift and rapidly flip around the container onto the repository seal and permit the jug to discharge into the store.
Flush the apportioning valves with a few cups of water to eliminate any excess purifying arrangement.
Bottleless coolers
Coolers outfitted with filtration or RO frameworks for the most part are less inclined to defilement because of their inborn shut framework plan. Care must be utilized, nonetheless, when overhauling the water treatment bit of the framework since tainting can even now happen because of ill-advised treatment of the channels, layer and parts of the framework. The speedy change (QC) channels and film modules of a filtration or RO framework make short work of the upkeep of this sort of water cooler, yet there are central assistance necessities for these treatment frameworks. Channels should be flushed to eliminate entrained air and carbon fines. Standard channel bowls must be washed with warm, foamy water and flushed prior to supplanting the channels. RO collector tanks (whenever provided) must be depleted, the air accuse set and dosed of a sanitizer for appropriate activity—equivalent to an undersink RO in a private establishment. Cleaning methodology actually apply with these frameworks since when a standard channel or a QC module is supplanted, the framework is presented to ecological conditions that could permit bacterial or airborne interruption into the framework. Setting a couple of drops of chlorine into the QC modules is commonly prescribed to guarantee bacteriostasis of the filtration or RO framework.
Progressed frameworks
There are profoundly cutting-edge coolers accessible that incorporate a purifying element of one or the other UV or ozone that give an exceptionally sterile framework. These purifying frameworks require yearly swap of lights for UV and ozone, contingent upon how the ozone is created. While these advances give nonstop purification, the degree of administration ability is more noteworthy; subsequently, the preparation needed to guarantee qualified help and support is similarly as significant as the fundamental frameworks. Cutting edge innovation doesn't mean less preparing in establishment, administration and upkeep yet rather a more inside and out information on how the framework functions and how to fix a breakdown or various issues when they happen. It is the vendors' duty to offer brief and effective support for the items they sell, lease, rent and administration. This additionally implies that the makers of these serious frameworks must give the vital preparing and specialized help for the vendors who market their items.
Client/proprietor duties
Client schooling is similarly significant in keeping up and working the water cooler. At the point when the establishment is done and the cooler is charged for use, be certain and set aside effort to clarify the activity of the cooler, particularly the taking care of and capacity of water bottles. An establishment check list with the client's unmistakable affirming preparing on activity and support of their cooler should be a piece of the work. It guarantees that the installer has scratched off all the particulars of the establishment and all the more significantly, the client can't guarantee obliviousness since nothing was clarified with respect to the interval activity and support of the cooler between planned routine seller administrations. Leave a duplicate of the finished structure with the client for their records. Spot a contact name on the cooler with the vendor name, telephone and address for brisk reference. This is additionally a decent method to promote for reference business in the event that somebody who is thinking about a cooler necessities a nearby hotspot for items and administrations.
End
Keeping up order in all periods of water cooler assistance guarantees great client relations. Added to a decent preparing program at the business, it basically kills the disappointment brought about by inadequate item information, establishment and administration for more info Click here.

Pondering About Converting My Total Music Collection From FLAC To ALAC Thoughts?
As Wes Phillips not too long ago reported on this website , CD sales are down and legal downloads of audio recordsdata are up. Stereophile has been criticized greater than as soon as for not paying enough consideration to the themes of MP3 and other compressed file formats, equivalent to AAC , and for providing no guidance in any respect to readers about the way to get the most effective sound high quality from compressed downloads. FLAC (Free Lossless Audio Codec) is a musical file format that gives bit-perfect copies of CDs however at half the scale. It's appropriate with many phones (together with the iPhone - with an app), moveable music gamers (PMP) together with the PonoPlayer and hello-fi elements. FLAC information can be found for roughly the same value as the equal MP3 in online shops and sound much better. FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. It is a compressed audio format much like MP3, but lossless, meaning audio file is compressed in FLAC container without any loss in quality. FLAC information enable incredible music enjoyment yet file measurement is significantly smaller than uncompressed WAV, AIFF and Apple lossless. Though much like MP3, FLAC playback assist is proscribed throughout system in comparison with MP3. In many instances we need convert FLAC to other audio codecs. Utilizing FLAC to compress an audio file to roughly 50% of its original measurement. The primary benefits of a FLAC file along with it being lossless is that it may be used for streaming, and decoding is quick, permitting for actual time decoding to take place. A FLAC file also comprises several knowledge integrity checks within the header file. The metadata associated with the audio has been future proofed additionally to permit new fields to be defined without impacting present decoders. That is why MP3's are unhealthy for archiving. MP3's, not like FLAC, have one thing of a poor generational half-life. You start with an MP3 rip of a CD - even at 256Kbps, you have already misplaced audio info - you can by no means get those bits again. That MP3 then will get sent to a pal of yours, who burns it on a CD. More data misplaced (most likely a fair bit, too). Your pal loses the digital unique, and re-rips the MP3 from the CD to give it to a buddy - by now, there's a very noticeable loss in audio quality in the file. Errors and irregularities have started popping up, and within the strictly archival sense, the music is now mainly nugatory as a record of the unique. The arduous drive primarily based Basic IPod is still offered. The Basic IPod is, not unexpectedly, smaller and technologically superior to the unique, including a proprietary Apple lossless format. It "holds" 260 GB. Your strawman has 4 GB. Almost no one makes an honest MP3 player with solely 4 GB. In any occasion, all of the stable-state ones manufactured respected firms go up to 64 GB. All of these gamers support FLAC, both natively or with an app.
In each cases, the variations would be very small, actually less damaging than compressing to AAC or MP3 after which restoring. You in all probability can't hear it…. until you may. An audio editor will usually convert any 16-bit file loaded to 24-bit or 32-bit internally, however it additionally is aware of if the audio has modified at all, so it may do the correct factor when saved. Audio editors additionally work at a pattern's native sampling charge, convert flac to alac in itunes to avoid unnecessary rounding errors. Once your FLACs take a spin by means of this energy wash, they'll be ready to rock as ALACs on iTunes and, as such, in your iOS gadget. The one subject is that this system is fairly expensive, priced at $39 for a single Mac or COMPUTER, $68 for the family pack, and $88 for a LAPTOP and Mac household pack. Should you're not satisfied, you'll be able to try the software program free for three weeks. Start the conversion process by opening the converter in your Windows PC. Then proceed to import the FLAC file that you want to convert flac to alac in itunes. You'll be able to locate the FLAC file by clicking the Add Files" button. You will be directed to your media files, and you may select the FLAC file from its location and the double click on to add it to this system. Alternatively, just drag the FLAC file, and drop it to this system's main window. The appliance allows you to load information from the laborious drive, or from the DVD system. In the event you're a windows user and dealing primarily with FLAC recordsdata, it may make mores sense to use Winamp or another non-iTunes media supervisor together with the usual FLAC codecs. However if you want to play FLAC on an iPod, you will need to convert it to one thing else ultimately, so it's possible you'll as effectively use Apple Lossless for better file measurement than a straight WAV. On the appropriate-hand aspect of the display (underneath the iTunes Retailer button) click Import CD. Examine that the Apple Lossless Encoder is selected and then click on OK. The music CD will now be ripped utilizing the ALAC format. As soon as the ripping process is complete switch again to your music library (utilizing the view mode button once more) to examine that all the songs from the CD have been imported.

a summer to remember
hello friends, i definitely just abandoned this whole blog, now didn't i
well i am happy to report that i am still alive, and am thriving!
Here's a rundown of everything that has been going on:
[inserting a readmore because this is long af]
May
So in May, I was definitely just all over the place because I was 1) trying to finish a paper published in a conference!! it literally drove me insane. anyways, then i had to go and finish a 78 page thesis, which involved a really convoluted timeline because i had to finish it ~ a week before the actual deadline so my PI could read it over, but then i had to finish it a few days before THAT so my PhD supervisors could read it over, which meant that i had like one (1) week to write like. all of it.
Luckily I had most of the first half already written, during whatever shitshow April was (April was a lot of coding for the paper, and then not having time to write my thesis). But THEN i had to organize all the data from my own personal experiments, make figures, and draft the entire results section. AND i had like two final reports to do for my class, so my last weeks of academia looked like....
Tumblr media
Of course, the day before my thesis was due, I pulled an all nighter, because, of course. What other way would I ever end my academic career. Submitted it though, and I graduated! [LINK TO MY THESIS]
Tumblr media
Also! I got vaccinated and felt like death for a whole day, but then my friend came over and we ate fried chicken and watched this show called Miraculous, which is a kids show from France, but for some reason is actually hilarious and really entertaining. Then I felt better, so I proceeded to work on my thesis.
Also, I guess I should talk a little bit about the class I took this semester, which was an industrial organization economics class. We looked at things like how different markets are organized, why they are that way, what market concentration means, how mergers affect competition, and what kind of effect that may impose on consumers. For the final case study (which, I will say, I wrote like 2000 words in a single day, so . applause for me), I looked at the Nvidia-ARM merger and how that may or may not affect competition in the GPU market, the CPU market, and the mobile chip market. I think my analysis was a little bit more surface level, which was fine for me, since I'm by no means an economics expert or even remotely should have any expectations at all, but I read a lot and learned a lot and that's the goal!
So yes, my brief excursion into the field of economics was overall positive, I feel like I learned a lot and now I can read financial articles about the tech industry and not be completely lost, which, again, was the goal.
But yes, May was a lot of work, and once it wrapped up, I got to spend a lot of time with friends post-vaccination! After the 1 or 2 week mark after my second dose, I started going back to the gym, especially to play basketball with folks, which I had missed a lot. I spent a lot of time at my old dorm just hanging out, and got to have a cute salmon dinner over at my other friend's place. And we made cheesecake too.
June (MA->NY->MA->CA)
I finally went to visit my best friend in New York. I hadn't seen her in > 400 days, so it was really a very anticipated event, except we saw each other across the crosswalk, but then the light took like five minutes to turn green, so it was really anticlimactic. Anyways, we ended up bumming around New York and Long Island for a week, and it was nice to spend some time with her after such a long gap.
Tumblr media
We spent a day at a vineyard and I fell asleep so
After getting back to Boston, my mom came back from Taiwan to help me move out of my apartment. It was a lot of finding people to sell things to, sweating because it was very hot that week, and praying everything would work out (it did). I also got to have a few final meals with various friends and my mom and I got to take one last lark down the Infinite, which I was really grateful for because it was the first time visitors got to go inside campus in over a year.
Also got into my school's MBA program! Yes i applied to a deferred program (which is like you get into a program, but you don't have to go for 2-5 years, as a way of getting in right after undergrad/grad school, but then accumulating some work experience first). It was hilarious, I was literally shopping in my campus store for a new sweatshirt and I got a phone call from the admissions office saying I got in. My mom had been pushing me to apply to grad programs, and I didn't tell her about it because I didn't know if I would actually follow through. But I got to surprise her with the news, and she was so happy she did the whole "calling all the relatives" thing again.
After flying home, I told myself I'd read more and exercise more, which I have been doing. I got a membership at Planet Fitness, which has been really good for me (going 3x a week), and I've made my way through at least 5 books this summer so far. My holds list at my local library is literally insane. (For recs, I recently read Normal People, which I absolutely devoured, and In the Dream House, which hit really hard for me.)
This summer was also really about reconnecting with high school friends. All three of us were unemployed, with plans to come in the fall, so we were all free to hang out all the time. We started out at the local library planning out a road trip, and we worked out a few times together, and a few coffee dates too. We took a fun day trip down to LA one day, and we visited Malibu, went to the Getty, hit up some local food places in the city. Driving down the PCH with Taylor Swift blaring and the windows down on a hot June day, just hits so different. There is nothing like it.
Tumblr media
My friend's birthday was in June, so we put together a little video for her and bought some jewelry, and had a Zoom call to celebrate. Then I got BBQ with some friends and sat in the parking lot eating ice cream until 11 at night just trading stories from our pasts. It felt like the perfect summer life, just staying out until whenever, grabbing food wherever we wanted, with friends I had had for literally a whole decade.
It was already a really good summer, but then July. July was crazy.
July (CA -> MI -> CA -> NV -> CA -> WA -> OR -> CA)
So one Sunday morning, I woke up to a text
Actually, I'm going to do a separate post on the whole Michigan trip because that sh** was on another level of spontaneous, impulsive, crazy life stuff. But anyways, so July started off with a trip to Michigan to visit my friends, and then I came back for the 4th, had 36 hours of rest before my high school friends and I went on a road trip.
This road trip was a little ambitious. We hit spots all up California, from hiking in Sequoia Nat'l Park to Kings Canyon, driving up to Sacramento and visiting art museums, and then going up to Tahoe but staying in Nevada, going kayaking and hiking and sitting on the beach for hours. It was reallllllly hot, but luckily I don't think it ever broke 90 degrees. The views were beautiful, especially at Kings Canyon. The drive in, you're surrounded by huge rock walls, with a thin river rushing by next to you. The hike itself literally feels like you're in nature, like the trail is somewhat defined but not paved, there are no sounds of traffic, the path isn't heavily trafficked so we were the only ones there for the most part. We even saw a deer and washed our faces in the river. Throughout the whole thing, we climbed into so many waterfalls, trying not to slip on rocks.
I hadn't been to Sacramento in over a decade, but it was a cute day trip. There isn't a ton to do there, but it was a nice reprieve from the constant driving and nature. We visited the Leland Stanford Mansion, the Crocker Art Museum, and Old Town Sacramento. A good chance to get a nice coffee, a sit-down meal, and some air conditioning. At Tahoe, we went kayaking on Pope Beach, with the clearest water I have ever seen, followed up by a hike up to a beautiful view of the Lake.
On our way back, we stopped at a lot of interesting places, like small towns like Lee Vining, where we found an Upside Down House; Manzanar, the site of an old Japanese internment camp during the WWII era (which also hit hard); and Randsburg, a literal living ghost town. Overall, getting to travel with my friends finally was so fun, they were so much fun to be around for five days, and getting to explore so much of California was so fun - even though I'd been here for so long, I never knew these places existed.
Tumblr media
So I came back and had around 48 hours to recover before my mom and I took a trip up to the Pacific Northwest!
I've always wanted to visit Seattle, and figured I'd hit Portland on the way too. We originally wanted to go to Hawaii but it got so expensive by the middle of the summer, so we decided to stay a little closer to home (probs the better decision bc I was already so tired by this point).
Seattle! Got to visit Pike Place Market many times, grab some coffee at the original Starbucks, see Mt. Rainier, and grab food with three friends! Also went to Bainbridge Island for a day which was SO cute - got to do an olive oil/balsamic vinegar tasting, which sounds so extra, but is actually really unexpectedly fun. At Starbs, I did a cold brew flight, which resulted in a rough night of tossing and turning for me, but I think it was worth it. Other things included the Pinball Museum, Space Needle, and Chihuly Glass Museum!
Tumblr media
So I lowkey really wanted to visit Portland because I wanted to achieve a long-lasting dream of seeing an NWSL game in person. So I went to the Thorns Pride game!!
Tumblr media
The Thorns fanbase is actually insane, I cannot express to you, like there's this whole fan section that actually did synchronized cheers and routines and was actually ROARING when they scored the entire game. I swear the audience was actually watching them at points instead of the match. Overall, the stadium was going crazy, like I thought I was at a tied Celtics-Bucks game with how loud it was in there. Also I swear, Ali Krieger made eye contact with me and waved.
In addition to that, Portland also has a huge rose garden, a nice Japanese tea garden, a lot of good donut stores and a huge bookstore, so all very up my alley. We also took a day trip to see Mt. Hood and more waterfalls!!
Tumblr media
That's a summary of the SEA - PDX trip. Once I got home, my high school friends and I did not waste any time on reuniting to hang out - we went and played ball, grabbed lunch, and then coffee, and then did the same exact thing like two days later and watched a bunch of TikToks, and then spent a whole day at the beach to send my good friend off to medical school in Arizona. They somehow convinced me to go in the water and I got body checked by a wave.
Saw this sculpture on the beach and teared up a little
Tumblr media
So proud of my friends for making it to med school, I am so excited to see them at their white coat ceremonies and beyond, I swear I will cry at every step of the way I'm so happy for them. Now that July is pretty much over, most of my fun summer plans are too, and I finally get a chance to catch my breath from that busy busy month. Spending a lot of time watching the Olympics and trying to muster up the motivation to start a fulltime job in < 1 month!!
Overall, I feel like I've been having a really solid summer given the year that was the covid year. I had a Lot of fun, literally probably two summers worth of fun consolidated into one. I think in the beginning of the year, I really wanted this summer to be good, and I didn't have a lot of set plans for the summer, even by the end of May. But somehow, things came together, like Really together, and I had the best summer of my life in this summer 2021. On top of that, I'm reading more than I have since probably middle school, I feel the most in shape that I ever have, I can DRIVE NOW. Only thing that would've made it better was if I got to go back to Taiwan to visit the fam, but unfortunately I can't go back because of strict travel restrictions there and they had a COVID outbreak too :/ I still got around 3.5 weeks of summer to go, so we'll see how the rest goes :)

First Reflection
First internship reflection (at 15 hours)
First Week Reflection 1. I’m currently a week into my internship, and I’ve accumulated a total of 16.5 hours work. So far, I’ve finished my orientation, watched a presentation and video, went over tasks and objectives with my supervisor, read the new volunteer packet, and completed my training. I’m now starting clinical screening with supervision. During my meeting with my supervisor (T*****) we went over a few additional subjects. MultiCare has closed their job shadowing opportunities for volunteers until 2021, but I was offered special projects if I needed extra work to reach my hours by the end of the quarter. She also let me know I would be acting as a trainer at some point for new volunteers. As a clinical screener, my duties include meeting and greeting visitors, providing information and directions to them, asking specific health screening questions, taking temperature readings, mask distribution, encouraging hand hygiene, and following MultiCare’s communication model. My first impression of MultiCare is that it is a much larger organization than my last internship site. The Tacoma location has 3 separate buildings. It’s easy to get lost. The facility is very nice and there are multiple departments across the site. MultiCare itself is a health system with many different locations. I can see that my site supervisor, as volunteer coordinator, is a very busy member of the staff. So far, she has been very cooperative over email and in-person. I won’t be seeing her much outside of meetings or when she’s directly observing me for evaluations. I’ve met with a few different coworkers so far. A few staff members have thanked me for my time. All the other volunteers seem comfortable with screening duties and my trainer (J*****) has been helpful in guiding me around the building. Most clients are appreciative of the work I’m doing and the extra level of safety I provide. From what I can observe, there are a lot of elderly patients visiting MultiCare. 2. At the start of the course, I didn’t have a complete picture of my duties and responsibilities. After going through the standardized orientation and filling out my learning contract, I now have a much better idea of my job. Initially, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to complete all my hours by the 13th. I’m happy to say we’ve worked out a schedule and it’s been posted on VICnet for me. Overall, I feel more confident than the last time I took my Field Studies course because I know all of my upcoming assignments. Otherwise, my feelings about the internship haven’t changed too much. The work I’ve been assigned closely matches the job description provided online. Additionally, I can easily connect how my role as clinical screener helps improve safety and health during the COVID-19 pandemic. Simply doing my work shows visitors that the organization is willing to make the extra effort. Enforcing masks is especially important when so many people at MultiCare belong to vulnerable groups. I do have some reservations with assisting wheelchair patients, but I’m sure I’ll grow more comfortable once I’ve helped a few people. 3. I’ve received a lot of new information, but it’s all information I would need to know if I was interested in working at a hospital in the future. I made sure to pay careful attention to hand-washing and hand-sanitizing instructions, as well as my screening script, since I will be using them very often. I felt the workplace violence module was mostly common sense, as well as the confidentiality agreement. MultiCare’s core principles are listed online, but the LEARN and AIDET models of communication are new to me. Since we’ve learned about value of communication in the HCML program, I feel prepared to apply them properly. Emergency codes, wheelchair escort, and injury protocols will take me longer to retain since I won’t be applying them often. 4. Aside from all the immunization requirements necessary to work on the site, the experience has been similar to my last internship. However, navigating the various buildings has made me realize that I’ve never worked at a place with over 20 employees on-site. Additionally, I’ve never needed to use a badge to enter staff rooms; my current workplace uses traditional metal keys. Since I don’t have experience working at a hospital, learning how to don a gown and identify proper cleaning supplies has been informative. I now realize that if I want to work outside the optometry field, I’ll need to earn a lot more experience before I think about managing. I think this internship will provide a good introduction to the wider health care system for me.
5. Based on our textbook, I can connect my initial experience with the “Developmental Stages of an Internship” (Sweitzer and King, 2013, pg. 32-33). Our textbook describes the developmental stages of an internship as being anticipation, exploration, competence, and culmination. Currently, I am transitioning from the anticipation stages to the exploration stages. Since my role was strictly defined during orientation, I have less exploration to do than at my last internship. I already have some familiarity with screening since most health care facilities have started to ask screening questions to visitors. Since I’ll only be at the organization a few weeks rather than several months, this prior familiarity means I can move into the competence stage more quickly. During the anticipation stage, an intern may experience concerns about their internship. Our textbook separates these concerns into “interest” and “worry”. I’m interested in applying concepts I’ve learned in effective communication to my internship. As a clinical screener I’ll be interacting with a large number of people. While these interactions are short, they set the tone for the rest of the patient’s visit. For managers, interpersonal skills are very important to achieving organizational goals (Celluci & Wiggins, 2010, pg. 19).
With this in mind, I do worry about interacting with uncooperative visitors. People, in general, are frustrated with the COVID-19 pandemic and many will see my questions as intrusive and excessive. These sorts of challenges are common when enforcing safety. I also worry that I might get sick or pass it onto others because I’ll be greeting so many people (especially if I’m not sanitizing properly for any reason).
At the anticipation stage, I can also expect to develop my initial relationships with my supervisor and co-workers. Many members of the staff will not be aware of who I am beyond the fact I have a volunteer badge. My closest relationships will likely be with my coworkers on the same assignment as me. We’ll be working closely together to cover the three entrances to building C.
Lastly, I look forward to soon increasing my capabilities and dealing with challenges I may encounter within the exploration stage. It can be difficult to use good judgement and discretion when you receive pushback from clients. Multicare has provided a list of scripted responses for these scenarios. At this point, Johnathan has already stepped in to help me with a few of these situations, but I hope to manage them on my own soon.   _________________

God, I am so so sorry to hear about your internship... that sounds awful and I can only imagine what you're going through. It makes sense to be worried 😞 This whole situation literally turned the world upside down. Thank you so much for your kind words, I can only hope you and your loved ones are happy and healthy ❤ Uhmm not gonna lie that last paragraph made me so happy like??You have no idea the joy that brings me!!! I'm so so happy you feel that way I also love talking to you 💖 - Twinkle ✨
These are gonna be a looong few weeks for everyone, so hmm, what do you like to do most when you're at home? What's your favourite type of TV shows, if you watch any? What's the last book that left an impression on you? ❤ - Twinkle ✨
It’s all good. Tomorrow, I’m gonna drive into my internship since the program office is still open (I’m in an interesting field placement since while I do “work” at a school, the program itself is through a nonprofit agency. So, the agency itself is still open, but they (the CEO and VPs) want their workers to work remotely if they can. I’m meeting with my supervisor and the rest of the staff and another intern to discuss the future regarding field hours. I believe we are also gonna go over work we can do remotely for the rest of the month. Silver lining: I won’t hit traffic going there and driving back home since everyone (minus me lol) is in quarantine haha I’m thinking of Homer Simpson from the Simpsons movie where he “escapes” from the dome and tells his family to live good lives lol I wish there was a gif of that lol but yeah.
I also agree with you that this whole situation has turned the world upside down. People said that this isn’t even the worse of it yet. It’s scary knowing that we haven’t reached the peak of COVID-19, but we gotta just keep doing the recommendations made by the doctors and government officials. I read in the news that some places in Europe are now, if they haven’t already, closing their borders to help keep the virus at bay. We just gotta keep being strong and washing our hands! My hand creams are my best friend during this since constant hand washing dries them out quickly lol
Now, to answer your questions!
1) When I’m home, it depends on what I’m in the mood for lol mostly, I just change out of my school/internship clothes, plug in my phone, and then grab my laptop and resume watching my YouTube video lol Right now, I’m watching old playthroughs from this YouTube Channel called, “farfromsubtle.” If I’m not watching that, I either watch Samination (another gaming/cartoon parody YouTube channel) or like17subs videos. When it’s Wednesday, Friday, or Saturday, then I’m watching anime (Wednesdays - Daiya no Ace  Act II / Fridays - Haikyuu!! Season 4 / Saturdays - Boku no Hero Academia Season 4) I will sometimes rewatch older seasons or my favorite episodes of those three anime plus Free! (Ikuya is my college boyfriend lol).
2) My favorite type of tv shows are currently the CW DC shows! I love watching The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow! Oh, I’m also watching Black Lightning. That’s also a good CW DC show. I also like watching Family Guy and revisit old reality shows. A guilty pleasure is Jersey Shore, Mob Wives, and Wild n Out lol Wild n Out is my current show I love watching YouTube clips on lol Oh! I was about to end this reply when I remembered another show I love watching lol It was a CW show (the series ended last year in the fall (?)) and it’s called, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend”. Jey @softjeon introduced it to me a few years ago and I was hooked lol All the seasons are on Netflix! I recommend it!
3) I am terrible, but I don’t really read books ^^; I guess the last book I read, it was for a sociology class and it was called, “$2.00 a day.” It was book that was insightful and made me thankful for what I have. It touches on the topic of poverty in the United States, and it’s depressing knowing that that is a family’s reality. Barely making ends meet, and they have to survive on a low income. It’s just a shame and truly an eyeopener.
What about you? :D Same questions apply? Also! I think you know who’s my BTS bias lol but who is yours? I wanna know!
