This journal page is Old [from my trip to see my partner in June] but life has kind of been a shitshow since I got home from that and I kept not wanting to post it because its a happy thing and "didn't feel right" to post when *I'm* not happy. But the more time goes on, and the harder things get, the more I realize we have to make our OWN joy sometimes. and Choose it, even when it feels impossible. So in the spirit of that, here are some cute things I Did/Saw/Ate/Bought/Made in Alaska this summer

The Emperor's Fiddlehead Soup
Tumblr media
Not gonna lie, this looks *really* good and I want to make it, but the big issue is fiddleheads
As far as I can tell, they're not farmed, only wild-foraged, and they're only in season for a very short time (April / May). You can get them shipped while they're in season though!
What I'm curious about: What do y'all think an acceptable alternative might be while waiting for fiddlehead season to roll around again?
Transcription for recipe below:
Ingredients
chopped fiddleheads knob of butter 1 onion, chopped 1 clove of garlic, minced 1 tablespoon of flour half a pan of chicken stock assorted vegetables (potato, leek, carrot), chopped heavy whipping cream salt and pepper
Melt the butter in a large pot over a hot fire. Do not burn. Stir in the onion and garlic until softened. Add flour. Continue stirring. Add chicken stock and bring to a boil. Add fiddleheads and vegetables. Raise away from the fire, simmer until vegetables are tender. Stir in the cream, season, and serve.

Recipe for Creamy Chicken and Fiddleheads A delicious and different way to serve fiddlehead ferns. Creamy chicken and fiddleheads is a lovely dish: both easy to make, and a stunner for company.

If you follow my main, you know the Holidays have been Really tough for me this year. But something that brought me peace through the chaos and instability life threw my way, has been to think back to and reminisce on Brighter Times, I started drawing this floral arrangement of plants and flowers i saw while in Alaska this summer on Christmas day [the day my grandfather was estimated to pass] and kept picking at it any time everything became Too Much, right up the day i finished it, which was also the day of his actual passing two days later. Transporting myself back to summer helped keep me Breathing and functional. And i’m thankful to have memories like these to cling to in times of strife. < 3

Before the last week of June, which is when the monsoons are predicted to reach the foothills of Kumaon, all hands are on deck to complete the metal work at the site located in Nathuakhan.
All the stone walls are up and currently Mr. Puran and his team are working to finish the RCC tie beam so that the work on the lighter part of the building can begin.  We have made plans to cover the entire site in tarpaulin sheet to make sure that the work carries on even during the full monsoon blast.
You can read more about how it started here!
