The snow melt then runs down the roof and refreezes once it gets to frozen gutters. Consequently the additional moisture in the attic makes the roof sheeting prone to mold or mildew and eventually rot. Typically, if you have cellulose, you don’t need to worry about mold or moisture because it contains a detergent that makes it mold, mildew, fire, and pest resistant. In some instances water is actually added to cellulose to do a wet blow for walls in new construction. The same is not true for fiberglass and because of the porous nature of fiberglass, mold spores actually spread quicker. If your fiberglass get wet it needs to be removed and replaced. Home at last. Last Sunday morning, I embarked on a trip from Massachusetts to Michigan (~800 miles one way) to help deal with the mountains of my recently-deceased mother's stuff. Besides being difficult and unpleasant physically (more later) it's also very hard emotionally. I just won't even go into why. Doing some fun things along the way didn't make this anything but an arduous trip. It was just taking the edge off so I could survive. But now it's done.
The good:
Spending time with my brother and our cousin who lives with him.
Seeing my daughter twice - once each way.
Mousse mice.
Finding my long-thought-lost coin collection.
Visiting the Southern Tier mother ship at long last, and discovering that they have really good burgers as well as beer.
Finding another place (Beer Snob in Jamestown NY). The second half of my pizza pretzel will be dinner tonight. Yeah, I could see living cheaply next to Lake Chautauqua, kayaking during the day (In summer at least) and visiting some pretty good haunts in the evenings.
The glass orbs containing (minute amounts of) my mother's ashes turned out very nicely.
The bad:
So much stuff! I was able to separate all the papers into categories, but that still means I have two boxes of pictures and four of poetry to go through some day. And several cubic yards of pure junk still in need of proper disposal.
So much dust! It was especially bad in the older storage area, where all of the insulation - fortunately cellulose, not fiberglass - had fallen all over everything. We wore N95 masks for that. But even the newer storage area was pretty dusty. I'll probably be blowing out dark snot for a couple of days. (Sorry, TMI, but we've all been there.)
My mother's still dead.
The ugly:
The tick I found climbing my leg after one session at the storage area. I hadn't stepped on any grass, so I'm pretty sure it must have come from inside. Ew. Fortunately it hadn't latched on yet, and there don't seem to have been more (I've checked over and over since then), but I got some DEET and was very careful to apply some each day after that.
The traffic on the way back. From Sturbridge (central Massachusetts, where I-84 goes down to Hartford CT and then onward to NYC) it was the worst I've ever seen.
The silly:
Today I traveled on I-81, I-86, I-87, I-88, I-90, and I-95. At other points on the trip I was on I-75, I-80, and I-94. Quite the tour of the interstate highway system in this part of the country, I'd say.

I would agree cool water is better and you don't need anything abrasive. I would definitely not use a sponge/loofah/cloth/etc. Just lots of soap suds to lift the fibers off your skin and rinse well.
My horrible fiberglass experience...
I have gaps in the drywall in my kitchen from an unfinished and very shoddy renovation about 35 years ago. A couple months ago, I discovered my sneaky little criminal cat was pulling tufts of fiberglass insulation out of the hole to play with 😱.
I didn't know because there's a honking big box fan in front of the hole she was messing with. So yeah in effect Goober was blowing fiberglass all over the kitchen like a bubble machine. 🤦♀️
We're all probably dying, but whether from the fiberglass, or the lead pipes, paint, & dishes, or the asbestos tiles crumbling off the floor, or the radioactive waste in our neighborhood from Mallinckrodt .... it's kind of a toss-up. Old houses are super fun 😭
