So the final Fence Redemption issue just dropped in my timezone and I realise how lucky that is but also unlucky because I have to go FERAL by myself! About one scene in particular!

And I don't know when others will be reading it so I can't talk about it yet!

So I will just <333 about my fav lil panel under a cut so it's fair. Edit: Finally it can be unleashed.

I can't believe that at some point Nicholas GAVE SEIJI HIS JACKET because Seiji must have been cold?!! In front of a sunset. It ended me. I am ended.

I mean, Nick practically grew up in a gutter/fight club but pulls THIS stunt on Seiji and us? He is diabolical. <3

Seiji's face-

He's flustered and startled, but more importantly, he's mortified. Their baggage goes beyond fencing, it's not just fencing Jesse, it's fencing Jesse. Jesse who shows up at Kings Row if only to see Seiji, Jesse who trys time and time again to get Seiji back. Jesse, who left him defeated in more ways than one after nationals. Fencing Jesse means facing Jesse. Jesse makes bold, confident moves, they're all calculated to push Seiji's buttons and mixed with a charming 'this is how far I'm willing to go for you.'

We learn their friendship consisted a great deal of Seiji following Jesse's lead, we can likely assume Seiji trusted Jesse in every way, to be a good friend, to protect him from other people, and to always be an out from the world. Seiji has a look of 'please don't make me do this' but we know he would. He feels helpless and becomes incredibly flustered because maybe he's always caved and maybe, he doesn't want to disappoint Jesse any longer, maybe he is overreacting because part of Jesse is right, this is how it's always been.

And Jesse, Jesse knows this, he knows what cards to play with Seiji, they've known each other their whole life. Jesse knows how Seiji feels about him and he takes advantage of that. The beginning of their conversation was genuine and heartfelt, but when Jesse felt Seiji slipping away, he plays his confidence and charm and gets Seiji flustered because Seiji's much more likely to cave to Jesse and all his charm.

Fence redemption thoughts:

1. I hope Jesse finds out Halverton is (also) trying to poach Seiji. I just think it would be funny. I think he would be offended

2. predictions out now: Bobby is going to be the first person Nicholas tells about being a Coste. he already almost slipped Bobby is the person he's closest to other than Seiji (who he can't tell because...well)

3. the promo for redemption has a lot of emphasis on rumours, in particular my bet is on the relationship between Seiji and Jesse and what exactly their whole deal was getting outed/revealed to the other fencers

4. Nicholas' home town! can't be a coincidence. I wonder if he would take Seiji to Coach Joe's salle?

5. speaking of Nicholas being a Coste i wonder if Jesse will finally see him fence, and if he will see what Coach Williams, Seiji, and even Bobby see: that sometimes he fences like a Coste
