What would happen if you were sent back and ended up in the orphanage with Tom Riddle—and say you also had magic?

Oh boy.

Well, there's a lot to question here. Judging by the... spirit of this ask, I presume I'm... pretty much reincarnated. I'm in the orphanage, I'm much younger than I am now and a child, I'm pre-Hogwarts age, and I retain my current knowledge.

For the purpose of this ask I suppose I also retain my current mental faculties. Despite being in the body of an eight-year-old, I'm not The Carnivorous Muffin at eight.

Welp, there's a lot to consider here.

First, I probably don't realize I'm in Harry Potter for quite some time and instead assume I've been reincarnated to some parallel universe. It's the 1930's, I'm in England in the depression, WWI has occurred and the vast majority of major historical events I know about seem to have happened in the right order, and this Earth is eerily similar to the Earth I left behind.

Strange that I appear to remember everything of my past life with my adult mental abilities, but alright universe, I guess that's how we're going to play this.

What I do know is that I'm dirt poor, presumably still a woman which does not bode well for my career prospects, and if I want any prospects in life period I'm going to have to fight tooth and nail for it. It'd be great if I got adopted to help with this, and might be nice to have people in my life who love me, but there's a lot of orphans in the world and a lot of orphans who are much less weird than I am.

The orphanage is the orphanage and not great, Mrs. Cole is overworked, the orphanage is chronically understaffed, and the kids are running wild beating the shit out of each other.

Being a girl, I probably don't have to worry about getting the shit kicked out of me quite as much, but I still probably try to keep my head down and don't aggravate the particularly beefy looking orphans.

Yes, there's some very angry gremlin named Tom Riddle around who will shove you down the stairs in retribution, but that's just a weird coincidence. And then supernatural shit starts happening. Billy's rabbit hangs itself, people get injuries when Tom is nowhere near them, and I start wondering if this is really the Tom Riddle.

I'm in Wool's Orphanage, my matron is Mrs. Cole, Tom Riddle is running around lighting things on fire. It's possible, though it could all be a strange coincidence.

Now, how things go from here depends on how controlled my own magic is. Since accidental magic typically does manifest at least once or twice, it probably does manifest for me for.. something. If Tom Riddle's there to witness it then...

Well, I imagine he's very offended. Here he was, special, different, better than everyone else, and then some girl in the orphanage (who dares to get very good grades on her assignments in school) has it too.

And I just stand there, smiling, going "Tee hee".

He probably confronts me to prove that he's better at it than I am, and he probably is unless the universe hates both him and me, but having someone else with the Shining around probably prompts him to take me as his protégé (in part so he can show off and in part because he's genuinely excited to be able to share this super cool talent).

I am now apprentice to eight-year-old Tom Riddle. Whoop de doo.

Well, I don't remember this part of Harry Potter, so now I'm probably confused as to where I am again. Regardless, I try to advise Tom on how to tone it down and not, say, traumatize Amy and Dennis for life and antagonize all the other orphans forever. He probably doesn't take me seriously. What do I know, I can't even light that patch of grass on fire?

Hanging around Tom Riddle gets me a reputation to, given the difference in genders, probably a fairly nasty one at that. When Dumbledore arrives he's undoubtedly told hot gossip about how eleven-year-old Tom and I have had sex in a ritual to summon Satan. Dumbledore takes this seriously.

Dumbledore probably meets us both at the same time and it's a disaster. I tried my best to prep Tom without revealing I'm a prophet, Tom first doesn't believe there might not be others, then doesn't believe they would be antagonist/anything but amazed by how awesome he is.

Well, Dumbledore lights his wardrobe on fire while I sit there. Dying inside. Dumbledore probably also does something to me too, to teach me some kind of lesson about something.

I imagine he temporarily disfigures me/makes me appear very ugly, then sticks a mirror to the wall, that way I realize that looks aren’t everything/being a whore is wrong. Tom, still traumatized over the wardrobe, is no help and my magic’s probably not controlled enough to do a thing about it.

I spend a day looking like a pig, Tom and I are given just enough money to buy new wands and second hand/barely functioning everything else and given the world’s worst directions to Diagon Alley. Thanks, Albus.

Well, months pass, we get our wands, Tom gets excited for Hogwarts and I... start seriously considering the future. WWII is coming, the Blitz is coming, Tom and I live in east London and must be able to evacuate during the bombing of London (which went on well past the Blitz to the end of the war). I also start considering my future in the wizarding world. Do I now actually have career prospects?

Probably not because I’m muggle born and a woman. My best bet is doing very well in useful subjects and finding employment with the goblins, I can’t imagine they have the same hang ups as the wizarding world.

Tom wants to go to Slytherin, of course, I tell him this is a bad idea. “Gee Tom,” I say, “Not sure how I know this but I have this feeling that Slytherin is filled with people who loathe our very existence and will shank us. Why don’t we pick Ravenclaw or Gryffindor instead?”

No one shanks Tom Riddle! Tom says. Tom is still eleven and while he admits that sometimes I may, in retrospect, have been right about certain things that doesn’t mean he wants to go to the house known for hard work. That’s code word for everyone there being a moron and having no other redeeming features than tenacity. As for the other two, Ravenclaws sound like smug, elitist, nerds and Gryffindors like dumb jocks.

Better to be known for ambition, cunning, and actually being competent.

Well, there’s no talking him out of this one, and goddamn it we’re all each other has.

I’m the closest thing Tom Riddle has ever had to a friend in all these years and in the orphanage the only one who could hold a decent conversation with him. And while it’s not my moral obligation to keep Tom from becoming a domestic terrorist, and there’s no guarantee I even can, dumping him for one of the other houses and drifting apart won’t help.

Not to mention that, after all these years, I’m undoubtedly lonely, I’m in this foreign land, and he’s now the closest thing to a friend I have.

Looks like I’m going to Slytherin, YOOOOOLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOO! I shout as a battle cry as tears run down my face. I may have to convince the hat to put me in Slytherin, but like all human beings I am a mixture of many qualities. I’m not cunning in the least, mind games exhaust me unutterably, but I’m full of ambition. 

This confirms every bad opinion Dumbledore had regarding me and Tom.

For the next several months, Tom probably beats the shit out of dormmates who steal his things/harass him. He beats up mine too because feminism (TM) means that he should treat all people equally when guilty of the same crime. I... am not sure I can win that fight so I just resign myself to having to adopt some of Tom’s tactics to make sure I’m not shoved in lockers, have tampons thrown at me, or pig’s blood dumped on me at the prom.

Once again, everyone thinks Tom Riddle and I are dating. I don’t even know if they’re wrong at this point.

Well, being in class with eleven year olds who seem to have had little to no prior education, Tom and I are undoubtedly blazing through class. I imagine I’m bored out of my mind (the Hogwarts curriculum sounds unbelievably boring) and Tom is... well, probably devouring the library but probably also bored. I decide to try and see if I can find some real history texts on this world (there are probably none, the wizarding world seems to only have two historians and both... have a different approach to history than current modern thought as I know it) and discover what magic even is. That shit is fascinating: wingardium leviosa is not.

Dumbledore likely gives neither me nor Tom points in class, I think the house cup is stupid, so I really don’t care. I have no interest in playing quidditch, neither does Tom, so that doesn’t happen.

The second world war starts up, Tom, me, and the muggle borns are the only ones who give a flying fuck. I work harder on figuring out how to get lodging during the Blitz/the bombing of London. Unfortunately, Mrs. Cole hates me too for being the Bride of Satan, so that’s a no go. Third year, 1939, I probably write her in earnest anyway telling her to PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, send Tom and I instructions for the summer/where the orphans are staying/how they’ve been dispersed to the countryside. As a back up plan, I try desperately to shmooze shopkeepers in Hogsmeade during every Hogsmeade weekend to get myself and Tom part time jobs and lodging over the summer. As a back up back up plan, I spend my time badgering Tom to become very good at survivalist wandless magic and if the Lord has pity on me gain some ability in it myself.

Hopefully, either Mrs. Cole or one of the Hogsmeade shop owners take pity on us. If not, then Tom and I are going extreme camping. Given Mrs. Cole (and the brain damage brought on by Dumbledore erasing memories left and right) and the likelihood of Hogsmeade shop owners just not getting it, Tom and I probably go extreme camping.

(Tom, meanwhile, asks Dippet and Dumbledore if we can stay in Hogwarts over the summer. He’s told no exceptions. London’s being bombed, you say? No exceptions. Toodles. Tom is never the same.)

Me, Tom Riddle, a tent we made ourselves, several rabbits we had to catch and skin ourselves, and the pitiful fire that we can keep going through pure will alone because if we try to use real people spells then we’ll get arrested. It has the benefit of making Tom feel very manly and impressive, catching his own food, but both of us are well aware that this sucks.

But hey, we aren’t dead.

Well, I’m sure Tom doesn’t appreciate that and this is where I imagine he seriously starts talking about violent revolution. I imagine much of my time is spent discussing the merits of not violently overthrowing our ant overlords. I imagine a thirteen-year-old Tom isn’t impressed by my pacifism, but he’s not married to Voldemort yet (probably).

Then I imagine the horcrux thing comes up and... Well, I will argue hard against it. Humans die, it is a truth of the universe, and simply something we have to accept. Horcruxes are not a measure against that, they can be destroyed, given infinite time they will be, and the sacrifice they require is too high: human life as well as the very essence of who you are.

What is a soul? I’m not sure, we never really learn in HP canon, but whatever it is, it is in some way the essence of yourself. If you take half of it and throw it somewhere else, you will cease to be you, someone or something else is walking around in your body while the other half of you exists in endless agony.

If you must chase immortality, create a philosopher’s stone (as I darkly wonder why it was that couldn’t be replicated and what Flamel had to do to make it in the first place). On second thought, maybe we should search for the Holy Grail.

Whether I can talk Tom out of this or not is... unclear. I’m going to say that I can, in part because I imagine he’ll want to show the chamber off to me, tell me when he realizes he’s Heir of Slytherin, and in doing so I can prevent the basilisk incident from occurring. Without that, there’s no dead Myrtle, which means no first victim. That summer, when he goes to the Gaunts, I’ll go with him and convince him that it’s not worth it. He can just turn around and leave these people alone, I hopefully can talk him down. Which means no second victim.

I start writing Flamel to see if Tom or I can get an apprenticeship (Dumbledore probably beats us to the chase and poisons him against us, but it’s worth a shot).

Then, should all go well, I can convince Tom to find employment with the goblins rather than shady antique dealers on the bad side of town. Hopefully, I can convince him to never become Voldemort, and instead we travel the world together looking for the origins of magic or something.

Dumbledore goes around taking people’s memories of us in preparation for when Tom becomes a dark lord and I his lady of the night darkness.

Hogwarts AU

Anyway, here where I (me and my personal opinion) will sort the Hargreeves in the classical Hogwarts houses. Shippy headcanons (mention of fiveya and alluther, if you don’t like, don’t click) and scenarios included, because my brain can’t help it. I also think I want to write this into a fanfiction, but I have not the time and I am not confident enough in my skill at the moment? Yeah, I just vomit a lot of words. 

Five – Ravenclaw. People would put him in Slytherin because he can be ruthless, but I see his clever brain being his prominent feature. He loves knowledge, he just focuses on what he loves the most of course (math, physics in real world). He is also cocky and smug about his own abilities and intelligence, which is a side-effect on a lot of Ravenclaw. They think they know better. He thinks the same. I can see him excelling in Arithmancy since it’s the Math of Magic.

Ben – Ravenclaw. He likes books and he is pretty rational most of the time. He has a gift with words and with them he reaches people’s heart. He doesn’t notice a lot of people have a crush on him, because he is good looking, a funny sensitive guy and when he starts talking about the beauty of latest discovery on Runology people are influenced by his passion. Yes, he is definitely good in Ancient Runes.

I like the idea of my favourite boys being in the same house. I am sure Five would insult Ravenclaw’s eagle knocker every time he can’t get inside their dormitory, because the eagle goes all philosophic and Five has no time for that. Ben always gets the answers right.

Ben: “It’s about the perception of the question, not the accuracy of the answer per se.” after Five flipped at the guardian of their house once again that week.

Five *snikers*: “Bullshit, Ben. The Eagle just hates my guts since the first year I called him an obnoxious opinionated rusty emblazonment.”

Ben: “I am sure Rowena Ravenclaw would have loved to listen you insulting her enchanted knocker! But may I remind you, you cannot threaten to melt him in an ashtray every day and demand him to like you.

Klaus – Hufflepuff. He is so random and full of chaotic energy, Hufflepuff can be that. He is also very empathic and has a very acute emotional intelligence. He is better at school subjects than what people gave him credit. Since in the wizarding world ghosts are more common than the muggle world, he learned to not be afraid of them. They do not have superpowers in such AU, they’re already magical so seeing ghosts isn’t something special. I imagine him having a sort of sixth sense though, not powerful enough to be a Seer but good enough to have amazing intuitions. He had tons of fun in the Divination class, because he can talk for hours about random sh*t (remember the frog and the scorpion) and it sounds like a prophetic genius. 

Vanya – Hufflepuff. People always look down on this house because they are “the rest” and their good features are loyalty and just. What’s wrong with being loyal and just? Helga Hufflepuff thought everyone with magic deserve an education when she decided she would take everyone else the other four didn’t want. That’s an educator, great Helga! This house encourages the students to be proud of who they are. Vanya being in a house that welcome people and treat the students equally is a fitting choice for me, she would love the warming dormitory too. Vanya is loyal to the people she loves and at the core she is a good person. Extra points for the fact you must get the right musical rhythm to open the secret entrance. She nailed it. She joined the Hogwarts Orchestra in the Third Year and have a wicked talent for Charms. (I am biased because I am an Hufflepuff, but my house is good!).

I imagine Ben and Klaus’ friendship being the reason why Five and Vanya’s orbits collided at the beginning. One day Klaus drags Vanya with him in one of the study rooms to join a study group for the next Transfiguration test “Benny is funny and adorable, but he is also bringing this other super nerd Ravenclaw who is kinda of a jerk. I CANNOT deal with studying Transfiguration and two brain-suckers at once. You are my emotional support.”

Vanya accepts because she had to prepare for the same test anyway and she already knows Ben, she likes him. So, they met, everything is fine except for the fact Five is being his snarky self. Then I imagine Vanya saying something very witty at him to shut him up and suddenly Five feels a sort of sparkle inside (brain Five: Oh. Wait.). 

He doesn’t expect such a counterattack from this seemingly timid shy Hufflepuff girl. By the way he has noticed her since the third year, when she casted an actual Patronus charm during a lesson in DADA (Yes, Vanya is a powerful witch). Five was VERY impressed that day (probably turned on, but he is a teenager that’s normal. Hormones suck). However his brain didn’t catch up the hints from his heart until that moment in the study hall. 

Allison – Slytherin. I could put her in Gryffindor, but I like the idea that she subverts the typical image of a Slytherin. She is cunny, clever and ambitious like any Slytherin can be, she also doesn’t mind being at the center of the attention. However, she is also caring, kind and a social butterfly among her peers. She befriends Vanya because she genuinely likes her, who care if she is of another house. She certainly doesn’t care if his boyfriend Luther is a Gryffindor, the “enemy” of their house. No Slytherin bullies can ever have the best on her, she hex them before they can blink. Excellent in Cure of the Magical Creatures and Transfiguration.

Luther – Gryffindor. He wants to do the right thing and showing it. Big body, bigger heart. Quidditch player in the house team, probably a chaser. He is doing it just because Diego asked, he is more into Astronomy and Herbology (he was very caring with his little plant on the base on the Moon, I like the idea he is good with plants in general) than sports. I mean, if not Gryffindor where else?

Diego – Gryffindor. In this reality he doesn’t have such a bad hero complext, but he has a strong sense of justice and he wants validation through his good actions. He does them because he is a brave of course, but also because he’s a little show-off like any Gryffindor on monday morning. Captain of the Quidditch team, a chaser and he loves to participate at the duel club (a proper duel club, not the fake one created by Lockhart years before). He is good on Defence against the Dark Arts. He wants to be an Auror.

Klaus convinces Diego to join the “How long it will take for Five and Vanya to finally confess their feelings and snog in one of the broom closets?” bet he made with Ben. Allison and Luther try to help them by organizing a double date at Hogsmeade, one of the weekends when the students are allowed to visit the village. Five almost chokes his own twin brother (YES, Luther and Five are twin brothers canon in this AU. Like in the comics. It’s my guilty pleasure okay) for tricking him, altough the plan worked at the end of the day. Ben wins the bet.

he  would  sing   ,   but  the  lyrics  evaded  him   .   that  and  rodolphus  once  kindly  informed  him  that  he  sounded  like  a  dying  pig  on  a  hot  summer  day  . 

so  he  whistled   ,   shaking  the  giant  tin  bucket  as  gasoline  splashed  about   .   he  moved  to  the  tune   ,   holding  the  container  in  place  before  the  melody  picked  up  again   ,   and  then  emptying  its  contents  with  a  bob  and  tilt  of  his  head   .    he  walked  around  the  room  (  or  maybe  danced  was  the  right  word   )   as  he  covered  the  ground  with  enough  gasoline  to  burn  for  days   .

“   please   ,   ”    a  weak  voice  muttered   . 

rabastan  paid  it  no  mind   .   the  song  was  still  going  and  the  bucket  wasn’t  empty  yet   .

a  crash  was  heard  behind  him  as  irish  men  ,  burly  in  size  and  tiny  in  mental  capacity  ,  rummaged  through  the  house   .   galleons  upon  galleons  were  stashed  in  the  small  cottage   ,   proving  to  be  worth  more  than  ten  times  what  the  land  they  stood  on  was  worth   .  

 they  stuffed  bags  filled  with  money   ,   quite  literally  cleaning  house   .

“   please   ,   ”   the  weak  voice  cracked   ,   sobs  escaping  his  mouth  as  he  pleaded  . 

the  brown  haired  criminal  was  raised  to  believe  that  begging  was  a  tool  used  only  by  the  pathetic  and  weak   .   lestrange  men  never  asked   .   they  never  pleaded   .   they  simply  took   .   so  when  a  voice  would  raise  an  octave  ,   or  someone  would  adopt  a  widened  expression  like  that  of  a  puppy   ,   he  wanted  to  cringe   .   it  was  pitiful   .

and  yet   ,   even  under  that  stern  belief   ,   he  knew  he  had  begged  before  .   recalled  it  quite  clearly  ,  really   .    but  never  for  his  life   .   rab  only  begged  for  things  worth  begging  for   .

and  this  man’s  life  clearly  wasn’t  worth  the  snot-infested  sobbing  .

rabastan  moved  as  if  he  had  endless  energy   ,   but  he  couldn’t  have  been  more  exhausted  .  he  was  worn  down  to  the  very  marrow  of  his  very  fatigued  bones   .   the  job  always  left  him  feeling  like  that  .  empty  .  absolutely  depleted  .   missing  any  hint  or  spark  of  whatever  humanity  he  could  scrounge  together  on  his  best  day  .   it  was  hard  not  to  feel  that  way  when  he  lived  a  monotonous  existence  filled  with  nothing  but  violence   ,  manipulation   ,   and  the  ever  sharp  dagger  plunged  in  his  back  by  his  own  family  members   .   

frankly  ,  he  could  not  care  less  about  the  man  drenched  in  gasoline  ,   crying  for  his  life  as  if  it  meant  anything  to  begin  with   .

the  man  ,   ulrich   ,   shook  in  his  seat   .  it  was  a  nasty  combination  of  being  cold  from  the  liquid  and  of  being  terrified  of  ,  well  ,   the  lot  of  it  .   he  looked  as  if  he  wanted  to  speak   ,   but  he  couldn’t  bring  himself  to  chance  it   .

“  go  on   ,  ”   rabastan  encouraged   ,  albeit  with  slight  irritation   .

“  if  you  knew   ,   why  didn’t  you   ...   ”

“  why  didn’t  i  stop  you   ?   ”   he  finished  for  him   .    “   gold  fucking  star   ,  ulrich   .   didn’t  i  say  it   ?   didn’t  i  tell  him  he  was  a  smart  guy  ?   ”   rabastan  turned  toward  a  large  blond  man  who  had  recently  stuffed  a  bag  to  the  brink  with  galleons   .   following  a  grunt   ,   he  swung  the  bag  over  his  shoulder  and  gave  a  stern  nod  .

“  sure  did  ,  boss   .   told  him  to  his  face   ,   you  did  .  ”

“  i  did  .  ”   he  nodded  in  agreement  before  turning  back  to  the  man  in  the  chair  .   “  and  you  really  are  ,   i  mean  wow  .  aside  from  your  proclivity  for  crossing  the  wrong  people   ,   that  was  quite  a  business  plan  .  i  watched  you  for  months   ,   workin’  your  ass  off  and  getting  nothing  but  top  grade  results  .  and  i  really  appreciate  it   ...   you  makin’  all  that  money  for  me  .   ”

the  man  froze   ,   suddenly  aware  that  the  brilliance  of  his  betrayal  was  only  because  rabastan  had  allowed  it  .  the  younger  lestrange  son  covered  up  his  tracks   ,   giving  him  the  opportunity  to  run  his  business  without  a  single  hitch   .   had  oisin  or  rodolphus  known   ?   he  would  have  been  dead  within  hours   .   and  the  money   ?   nonexistent  .  rabastan  saw  the  potential  in  him  and  he  wanted  to  push  it   ,   to  see  how  far  he  could  take  it   .   and  even  with  the  theatrics  and  the  threats   ,   he  knew  there  was  a  possibility  that  ulrich  would  survive   .   he  just  needed  to  want  it  enough  .

“  now  i  get  to  kill  you  ,   steal  your  hard-earned  fortune   ,   punish  your  loyal  followers   ,   and  sell  all  your  merchandise   .  and  who  knows   ,   ”    he  paused   ,   taking  a  moment  to  remove  the  cigarette  from  behind  his  ear  and  place  it  between  his  lips   ,   lighting  it  nonchalantly  before  finishing  his  thought   .   ”  maybe  i’ll  fuck  your  wife  too  .   ”

smoke  cascaded  from  his  mouth  as  he  leaned  forward    .   “   c’mon  now   ,   give  us  a  kiss  .   ”   he  muttered  with  a  wicked  smirk  before  transferring  the  lit  cigarette  to  ulrich’s  lips   .   all  they  needed  was  a  loose  bit  of  ash  to  fall  on  his  person   ,   or  anywhere  in  the  room  really   ,   and  it  would  be  game  over  .   “   enjoy   .   it’s  my  favorite  brand  .   ”

taking  a  stand  and  walking  toward  the  front  door  of  the  house   ,   he  motioned  for  his  men  to  follow   .   the  windows  had  been  boarded  up   ,   so  the  shift  from  complete  darkness  to  bright  sunlight  caused  his  features  to  contort  drastically   .   fuck   ,   he  muttered  under  his  breath  before  walking  down  the  steps   .

a  sound  emerged  behind  them   ,   a  small  gust  of  wind  tickling  his  back  as  he  made  it  to  the  sidewalk   .   of  course   ,   the  wizard  could  make  an  educated  guess   .   short  styled  tufts  of  chestnut  hair  canted  to  the  side  as  he  turned  ,  quietly  appraising  the  house  as  it  was  being  slowly  engulfed  in  flames  .   ulrich  hadn’t  lasted  very  long   .

“   that’s  a  shame   ,   ”    rabastan  sighed  in  disappointment   ,   the  edges  of  his  lips  curled  downward  to  showcase  a  frown   .   part  of  him  wanted  the  man  to  survive   ,   if  only  to  preserve  whatever  clever  ideas  he  had  stashed  away  in  that  head  of  his   .   regardless  of  the  betrayal  ,   even  he  had  to  admit  ulrich  walsh  had  a  talent  for  what  they  did  .   it  was  a  waste  .

“   sir   ?   ”

“  i  would’ve  eaten  the  goddamn  cigarette   .  ”

he  watched  the  fire  before  him   ,   entranced  by  the  anarchy  of  it  all   .    by  the  way  the  flames  shifted  and  danced   .    he  felt  like  a  fire  himself   .  he  was  becoming  unhinged  ;  unresponsive   ;  like  chaos  in  human  form  and  he  desperately  needed  someone  to  drench  him  in  water   ,   if  only  to  smoke   out  the  real  him   .   but  the  real  him  was  hidden  in  a  cluster  of  flames  and  soon  he  would  be  just  like  ulrich   :   ash  and  dust  and  regrets   .

“  give  it  time  and  put  the  fire  out  ,   then  take  the  money  to  o’sullivan  .   he’s  got  the  books  and  he’ll  compare  .   ”   rabastan  wiped  a  spec  of  dust  from  his  black  coat  before  flipping  the  collar  up  ,   protecting  his  neck  from  the  harsh  winds  he  would  feel  after  disapparating  .   things  were  about  to  get  very  cold  for  the  younger  lestrange  man  .

“  you’re  not  joining  us   ?   ”

“   no  ,   ”   he  replied  quickly  ,  shoving  his  hands  into  his  pockets  as  he  turned  to  leave   .   “   i  have  a  funeral  to  get  to  .   ”

Chapter 20: Lord Voldemort’s Request

“‘Yeah, well, there was no need for Ginny and Dean to split up over it,’ said Harry, still trying to sound casual. ‘Or are they still together?’ ‘Yes, they are – but why are you so interested?’ asked Hermione, giving giving Harry a sharp look. ‘I just don’t want my Quidditch team messed up again!’ he said hastily, but Hermione continued to look suspicious, […].” – Please Harry, you should know Hermione well enough by now to know you can never hide anything from her. Girl knows what is up.

“‘Nice commentary last match!’ said Ron to Luna, as she took back the green onion, the toadstool and the cat litter. Luna smiled vaguely. ‘You’re making fun of me, aren’t you?’ she said. ‘Everyone says I was dreadful.’ ‘No, I’m serious!’ said Ron earnestly.”- Luna is so used that other people make fun of her that she doesn’t think Ron’s compliment is meant genuine. But it also says a lot about Ron, because he did make fun of her in the past quite often. Or as Luna said, “he can be a bit unkind”.

“‘No,’ said Dumbledore. ‘Divination is turning out to be much more trouble than I could have foreseen, never having studied the subject myself. I cannot ask Firenze to return to the Forest, where he is now an outcast, nor can I ask Sybill Trelawney to leave. Between ourselves, she has no idea of the danger she would be in outside the castle. She does not know – and I think it would be unwise to enlighten her – that she made the prophecy about you and Voldemort, you see.’” – Imagine you run a school and the reason you can’t fire a teacher is because otherwise they would be in mortal danger. And I think it is fair to say we can add Slughorn to this list as well. But at least both Firenze and Slughorn are aware of the danger, whereas Trelawney is blissfully oblivious, which puts her even more at risk.

“A hot, prickly feeling of shame spread from the top of Harry’s head all the way down his body. Dumbledore had not raised his voice, he did not even sound angry, but Harry would have preferred him to yell; this cold disappointment was worse than anything. ‘Sir,’ he said, a little desperately, ‘it isn’t that I wasn’t bothered or anything, I’ve just had other – other things …’ ‘Other things on your mind,’ Dumbledore finished the sentence for him. ‘I see.’” – Ironically my mother used the same tactic on me – she was never angry with me, but simply disappointed, because she had expected I would do better whenever I misbehaved. And I think Harry is used to anger; he spent years confronted with the anger of uncle Vernon and it is also how he reacts whenever something doesn’t go the way he wanted it to be. And anger can be very cathartic; after Sirius’s death Dumbledore gave Harry the chance to let out his anger because he knew it was what Harry needed at that moment. But he did not give him the satisfaction to be angry in return and he is not angry now, and Harry, who is so used to fight back, doesn’t know what to do. And of course Harry has had other things on his mind, as every teenager does, and Dumbledore is painfully aware of it. It is Dumbledore’s dilemma: he wants for Harry to be a normal teenager, to be concerned about Quidditch and schoolwork. And he wouldn't have asked if it wasn’t important, if there was any other way to get this memory.

“‘Firstly, and very importantly, Voldemort was, I believe, more attached to this school than he has ever been to a person. Hogwarts was where he had been happiest; the first and only place he had felt at home.’ Harry felt slightly uncomfortable at these words, for this was exactly how he felt about Hogwarts, too.” – This isn’t just a parallel between Harry and Voldemort but between Harry and Snape as well. The three boys without a home, because they either were orphans or came from an abusive family, or in Harry’s case both. But while both Voldemort and Snape wanted to stay there as teachers Harry was ready to leave his first real home behind because he had found a home and a family outside Hogwarts. (Though one has to wonder why Snape wanted to become a teacher; clearly not because he loves children that much)

“‘And thirdly, as a teacher, he would have had great power and influence over young witches and wizards. Perhaps he had gained the idea from Professor Slughorn, the teacher with whom he was on best terms, who had demonstrated how influential a role a teacher can play. I do not imagine for an instant that Voldemort envisaged spending the rest of his life at Hogwarts, but I do think that he saw it as a useful recruiting ground, and a place where he might begin to build himself an army.’” – Slughorn is presented as a character who might not be the most sympathetic because of his favouritism but who appears to be harmless. Dumbledore himself said that while Slughorn seeks the attention of the powerful he does not want power for himself. However he could use his power and influence in a much sinister way, and the young Tom Riddle surely had realized that. He had worked his charm already on most of the adults in his life (with the exception of Dumbledore) and it would have been much easier to influence children, to gain new followers, or as Dumbledore said to build an army. Teachers are in a position of power, especially at Hogwarts, where children are far away from their parents, and Tom Riddle would have abused this power.

“‘But he didn’t get the job, sir?’ ‘No, he did not. Professor Dippet told him that he was too young at eighteen, but invited him to reapply in a few years, if he still wished to teach.’” – We already know you don’t need any sort of extra education to become a teacher; Hagrid is a teacher and never even finished school. And obviously Tom Riddle was perhaps the most talented student Hogwarts ever had (next to Dumbledore), so clearly Dippet saw no need for him to study or anything (are their universities in the Wizarding World?). The only reason he did not get the job was his age, so perhaps Dippet thought Riddle was not mature enough yet.

“‘Which job did he want, sir? What subject did he want to teach?’ Somehow, Harry knew the answer even before Dumbledore gave it. ‘Defence Against the Dark Arts.” – Another Harry-Snape-Voldemort-parallel. Both Voldemort and Snape wanted to get the job of the DADA teacher, and that is the subject Harry taught in his fifth year in the DA. Both Voldemort and Snape are fascinated by the Dark Arts, they are drawn to it, and according to Hermione Harry is as well, at least a little bit (Snape’s speech at the beginning of the school year reminded her of what Harry had told the DA). Harry’s fascination however is based on the fact that he has to understand the Dark Arts in order to survive and has no wish to use them on others.

“‘How do I look?’ said Hepzibah, turning her head to admire the various angles of her face in the mirror. ‘Lovely, madam,’ squeaked Hokey.” – This is not the first time Riddle visits Hepzibah Smith, and it is obvious that she is very smitten by him and tries to look nice for him. Obvious Riddle has used his charm on her as well, but he had also used his good looks to his advantage. From what we know about Voldemort he is not interested in personal relationships and I can’t imagine him to be interested in sex as well (yes, ignoring ‘Cursed Child’ here). As Dumbledore already told Harry Riddle/Voldemort never had any friends, I don’t see him having any kind of romantic or sexual relationship either. And yet he is very aware of the effect he has on women (and perhaps some men as well); he does not care about his looks (otherwise he would not have transformed himself) but he sure uses his attractiveness to his advantage.

“His greedy expression was curiously mirrored on Hepzibah’s face, except that her tiny eyes were fixed upon Voldemort’s handsome features.” – It is interesting that Hepzibah is described here as a predator, when she in fact will become the victim.

“‘That’s right!’ said Hepzibah, delighted, apparently, at the sight of Voldemort gazing at her locket, transfixed. ‘I had to pay an arm and a leg for it, but I couldn’t let it pass, not a real treasure like that, had to have it for my collection. Burke bought it, apparently, from a ragged-looking woman who seemed to have stolen it, but had no idea of its true value –’ There was no mistaking it this time: Voldemort’s eyes flashed scarlet at her words and Harry saw his knuckles whiten on the locket’s chain.” – Is Riddle angry because Burke had betrayed his mother? Because he thinks the locket is rightfully his? We know that Riddle hated his father, because he was a Muggle, because he had left his mother, but what does he think about his mother? Did he changed her mind about her after he learned that she was a witch, an ancestor of Slytherin on top of it? Or did he look down on her, because she ran away with a Muggle, because she chose the human weakness of death even though she could have saved herself? I can’t imagine that he felt any kind of sympathy towards his mother for those very reasons, and that his anger here is clearly based on thinking the locket belongs to him.

“‘Yes, that is my conclusion, too,’ said Dumbledore. ‘And, just as with Morfin, the Ministry was predisposed to suspect Hokey –’ ‘– because she was a house-elf,’ said Harry. He had rarely felt more in sympathy with the society Hermione had set up, S.P.E.W.” – If the ministry really suspected Hokey it shows how little they understand about house elves. Most of them are devoted to their masters and even the ones like Dobby who dislike their owners are programmed to obey and do as they are told. It is against the very nature of every house elf to hurt their master in any way. Despite being free Dobby still struggles to speak bad about the Malfoys and still wants to punish himself, so even if Hokey had a motive (and she seemed to like her mistress) she simply could not have killed Hepzibah.

“The one difference between the present-day office and this one was that it was snowing in the past; bluish flecks were drifting past the window in the dark and building up on the outside ledge.” – Clearly it is winter, so why would Voldemort try to get a job as a teacher in the middle of the school year?

“Harry let out a hastily stifled gasp. Voldemort had entered the room. His features were not those Harry had seen emerge from the great stone cauldron almost two years before; they were not as snakelike, the eyes were not yet scarlet, the face not yet masklike, and yet he was no longer handsome Tom Riddle. It was as though his features had been burned and blurred; they were waxy and oddly distorted, and the whites of the eyes now had a permanently bloody look, though the pupils were not yet the slits that Harry knew they would become. He was wearing a long black cloak and his face was as pale as the snow glistening on his shoulders.” – I guess this is what happens when you repeatedly rip your soul apart. The less you become human the less you look human as well.

“‘They do not call me “Tom” any more,’ he said. ‘These days, I am known as –’ ‘I know what you are known as,’ said Dumbledore, smiling pleasantly. ‘But to me, I’m afraid, you will always be Tom Riddle. It is one of the irritating things about old teachers, I am afraid, that they never quite forget their charges’ youthful beginnings.’” – It is such a small thing but Dumbledore’s refusal to acknowledge the name Riddle has given himself means so much. It means he does not accept and furthermore does not fear the monster Riddle has created of himself. And he reminds Riddle that he does know him longer than most, and that he has always looked right through his façade. By calling him ‘Tom’ he reminds Riddle that he is still human after all, no matter how desperate Riddle tries to become something less human. Later of course people would become so afraid of the monster they became afraid of the name itself. Dumbledore refused to call Tom Riddle ‘Voldemort’ and later refused not to use the name ‘Voldemort’ when everybody else did. He does not give Riddle/Voldemort any kind of power over him. And then of course in book 7 Voldemort will use his name as a weapon, as he will trace down everyone brave enough to say his name.

Also, imagine little first-years calling their DADA teacher Professor Voldemort.

“‘Three times at the last count, actually,’ said Dumbledore. ‘But the Ministry never attracted me as a career. Again, something we have in common, I think.’ Voldemort inclined his head, unsmiling, and took another sip of wine.” – Of course in book 7 Voldemort does infiltrate the Ministry of Magic, but he never becomes Minister of Magic, but rather uses a marionette to do his bidding. He could have gained power in a legal way, could have built up a terror regime as a Minister, but he was never interested in politics.

“‘The old argument,’ he said softly. ‘But nothing I have seen in the world has supported your famous pronouncements that love is more powerful than my kind of magic, Dumbledore.’ ‘Perhaps you have been looking in the wrong places,’ suggested Dumbledore.” – First of all Dumbledore and Riddle seemed to have a similar conversation before. Second Dumbledore here tells Riddle exactly what will be his downfall. First defeated by the sacrifice of a loving mother, later (and finally) by the boy who cared too much, who was protected and did protect others with a magic Voldemort never understood: love.

“‘And what will become of those whom you command? What will happen to those who call themselves – or so rumour has it – the Death Eaters?’ Harry could tell that Voldemort had not expected Dumbledore to know this name; he saw Voldemort’s eyes flash red again and the slitlike nostrils flare. “ – Dumbledore himself admits how little there is to know what Voldemort did between the years when he left school and the ten years later when he appeared at Hogwarts again. So how come Dumbledore knew about the Death Eaters? Had he already been suspicious of Riddle when he left school and tried to gather as much information about him as he could? Voldemort still tries to keep up the façade of a young charming man; nobody is supposed to know yet he is the leader of a secret cult. But Dumbledore is already three steps ahead. He must have known or suspected that Riddle would become someone dangerous.

“‘No, nothing,’ said Dumbledore, and a great sadness filled his face. ‘The time is long gone when I could frighten you with a burning wardrobe and force you to make repayment for your crimes. But I wish I could, Tom … I wish I could …’” – Dumbledore was Riddle’s teacher, so in a way perhaps he saw him as his responsibility, and saw what had become of his student as his own failure.

“‘Oh, he definitely wanted the Defence Against the Dark Arts job,’ said Dumbledore. ‘The aftermath of our little meeting proved that. You see, we have never been able to keep a Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher for longer than a year since I refused the post to Lord Voldemort.’” – So, the job is cursed, we know of one teacher who died (Quirell) and others who got seriously hurt (Lockhart, Moody, Umbridge). It seems Lupin did get away the best. But with that knowledge it does seem a bit irresponsible to offer anyone the job. I wonder if Snape knows the job is cursed or had his suspicions. And maybe that was another reason Dumbledore refused so long to give him the job: he had tried to protect Snape.

Turns out, you don’t need to be of the screen or stage to be an actor. Case in point: Andrew Cunanan. In the pilot of FX’s “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” alone, we see the 27-year-old slip in and out of elaborate personae and biographical fabrications like a Versace model changing before the runway. Was Cunanan really warding off Gianni Versace’s advances at a San Francisco club in 1990 (as he tells his friends), or was he the young stranger groveling for the fashion designer’s attention with boldfaced flattery and stories of the old country? Did he really work on his military pilot father’s pineapple plantation in the Philippines before moving to America for “the very best education” money could buy, or was he, as showrunner Ryan Murphy tells it, abused as a child and “groomed to inhabit this ‘American Dream’ that in his own family turned out to be a huge lie”?

While we now know the latter of both cases to be true, Cunanan wore his stories well, fooling Versace and others he encountered along the way. “I tell people what they need to hear,” he tells a male lover in the series’ first hour with chilling matter-of-factness.

Even Darren Criss, who stars as Cunanan in Season 2 of the Emmys-sweeping true crime anthology series, can’t help but admit that Cunanan’s innovation at times rivaled that of the fashion mogul’s. “[The show has] done a really good job of paralleling these two brilliant men, who are for obvious reasons very different,” Criss says. “Brilliance takes all shapes and sizes, and execution—no pun intended—varies and changes.”

The fact that a character like Cunanan was also a sociopathic spree killer—best known for assassinating Versace in 1997 before taking his own life a week later—is just the cherry on top of the young actor’s most formidable and emotionally demanding role yet.

Cunanan’s murderous tendencies aside, his gift for storytelling is mirrored in the man playing him. During a December interview over coffee in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood, Criss peppers in asides: “That’s a whole other story in and of itself” or “That’s a whole other hour, we won’t go there.” But the thing is, Criss—especially for actors—has quite the story to tell.

As a talent who rose from “Harry Potter” parody fame to become a standout supporter on “Glee,” a replacement in Broadway’s “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,” and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” and now a leading role on what he admits is “a pretty hot show [with] a lot of buzz attached to it,” the first piece of advice Criss has for any actor is to embrace an entrepreneurial spirit. He began his career in his native San Francisco at a very young age, first performing professionally at age 10 at the locally esteemed 42nd Street Moon theater company and as part of the American Conservatory Theater’s Young Conservatory program.

“That, to me, was where it all kind of got fostered,” he says. “And of course I did high school theater. The real backbone is high school theater.” (One of his favorite talking points with a new acquaintance is “[Tell me] what shows you were in, and I’ll try to guess what parts you played.” It’s a game he quickly proves adept at over the course of our meeting.)

Criss’ acting roots took him to the University of Michigan, where he received his BFA in theater performance—and by his senior year, fans were recognizing him on the street for an extracurricular student project gone viral. Featuring music and lyrics by Criss and A.J. Holmes, “A Very Potter Musical” was a comedic riff on J.K. Rowling’s beloved fantasy series that starred Criss as the titular teen wizard. It began as the sort of one-off “silly shit” that many a musically inclined theater student might create in his four years on campus. But when filmed in the university’s black box theater and pushed online at the advent of social media, “A Very Potter Musical” became somewhat of a subculture phenomenon among fans of the magical franchise.

“That’s kind of what changed everything, because after graduating, this thing that was just a fun story that we did our senior year became immortalized on an alternate platform,” Criss says. “That small, scrappy thing took on a life of its own, and from the unexpected success of that show, we became a theater company.” Founded in 2009 and set on “creating accessible, quality theater for the modern era,” StarKid Productions exists in Chicago’s vibrant theater scene to this day.

“It was the first point that anybody had acknowledged something that I had done without knowing me in a personal way,” Criss recalls. “It was my first brush with ‘being known.’ ”

While a desire for fame or recognition hardly seems of high value for Criss (“I take my work very seriously, but I don’t take myself seriously at all”), it’s a push-pull relationship between the public and private that certainly informed his take on Cunanan. Versace’s killer was obsessed with the rich and famous and had dreams of making his own way into society’s upper echelons. All of his lies were intended to make him appear better than he was. Within that, there was an underlying desperation to every move he made. “The Assassination of Gianni Versace” is in part meant to explore how that desperation came to be.

“I wasn’t interested in doing the boogeyman serial killer,” Murphy says by phone. “Cunanan was not a person who tortured pets and animals as a child. So the question is, then, how did he become a psychopath?”

The No. 1 question people ask Criss about playing Cunanan also comes back to its natural, psychopathic emotional heft: “Is it crazy to be in a dark place?” While the role does require a certain level of brutality and psychiatric unease, the actor has two things to say to that. First is that it’s “no crazier than being a cisgender, heterosexual 20-something playing a gay singing teenager,” as he did on Fox’s “Glee,” also from Murphy. In other words, he’s embodying a character. “I’m not playing myself,” he says, “but you have access to emotions that those people go through, and you find as many common denominators as possible.” And second is that we all may be surprised by Cunanan’s less obvious, more human characteristics.

“We know Andrew was made famous by horrible things, but we don’t really know a lot about his life and who he was,” Criss says. “He was a really joyous, likable, affable, energetic young man…. You really question at what point could this have been you or any of us or anybody we know and love? Are we as awful as the worst thing we’ve ever done?”

Upon a bit of self-reflection, Criss says it’s that ever-present dichotomy of right and wrong, friend and foe, that keeps him acting in the first place.

“That’s probably why I like acting so much: It bends people’s sense of empathy for the human experience,” he says. “I’m excited for people to experience something [with this show]. I don’t think people really know what’s coming, and that excites me endlessly.”

Something New

Funnel Scripts Review – Overview

Funnel Scripts is a copywriting software program with scripts for a “fill-in-the-blank” copywriting experience. It was created as a joint venture between Clickfunnels founder Russell Brunson and copywriter Jim Edwards.

Russell Brunson is credited in part with popularizing formal sales funnels. Just head to the sales page of most online courses and you’ll see Clickfunnels in the domain name, as well as the Clickfunnels widget that pops up at the bottom of the page.

Jim Edwards is a professional copywriter who now mainly sells copywriting educational products through his business, Guaranteed Response LLC.

Sales funnel expertise and copywriting knowledge are a powerful duo, so Russell and Jim partnered to create a product that does a little bit of both.

Product

Funnel Scripts main content consists of scripts for sales copy, text sales letters, video sales letters, case studies, testimonials, bullet points, paid ads, web page copy, email copy and subject lines, and headlines. Each script is accompanied by a short training video that shows you how to use the script. In addition, there are 6 downloadable “Wizards”: Perfect Webinar Wizard, Video Sales Letter (VSL) Wizard, Easy Survey Wizard, Star Story Solution Wizard, Masterclass Wizard, and Podcast & Facebook Live Wizard, each with accompanying tutorial videos.

Bonuses include a training called Inception Secrets, funnel templates, Funnel Scripts Blueprints, monthly training webinars, and Jim Edwards’s Copywriting Secrets Masterclass.

To build a piece of sales copy using a script, you first have to click on the script you want to use.

You’ll then be presented with a series of boxes to fill out. Each box has a short explanation above it and a prompt below it so you can envision what the copy will look like with the rest of the script.

Fill in each box with the appropriate copy, then click “Build” when you’re done. You can then download or email your completed pieces of copy for use in your marketing materials. Funnel Script can also generate a link so you can share your project with others.

If you haven’t finished a project, you can save it for later too.

There are 6 downloadable “Wizards”, starting with the Perfect Webinar Wizard.

This wizard will create your webinar page and help you write your webinar. Plus, it gives you templates for ads, promotional emails, and follow up emails so you can maximize webinar attendance with less effort.

Russell himself uses this wizard to create all his webinars.

The Video Sales Letter Wizard helps you with one of the hardest types of sales materials.

This Wizard will take the information you fill out and give you two scripts to choose from, each based on a different copywriting formula. One is based on AIDA (see FAQ #10) and the other is based on a formula called “The Great Big Promise”.

This one takes 20-30 minutes to fill out, but it’s much easier than writing an entire video sales letter script yourself.

Surveys can be used to increase email opt-ins. The Survey Wizard helps you make professional-looking surveys.

The Survey Wizard asks you a series of questions about your funnel and your survey. Some information it asks for includes subject, target audience, and keywords.

When you answer these questions, Survey Wizard may ask additional questions in case the survey it generated isn’t tailored to your audience.

Storytelling is powerful, especially in copywriting, and Star Story Solution Wizard makes storytelling effortless.

Start Story Solution Wizard helps you craft compelling stories that drive your audience to buy your product. It can take up to an hour to fill everything out, but it’s worth it when you have a million-dollar story.

Masterclass Wizard helps you create your own masterclass.

Not only will Masterclass Wizard guide you through the creation of your marketing materials, but it’ll also assist with content creation for the masterclass itself.

The last wizard is Podcast and Facebook Live Wizard.

As the name suggests, this one provides templates and scripts for podcast and Facebook live interviews. It also helps you create promotional materials for the interviews.

Russell and Jim included 5 funnel templates.

They’ve included sales funnels, webinar funnels, “invisible” funnels for paid webinars, opt-in funnels, and free + shipping funnels.

Funnel Blueprints provides further funnel training.

Funnel Scripts has 3 upsells. They are Clickfunnels, Funnel Builder Secrets, and Funnel Hacks.

Clickfunnels, Russell’s flagship product, is an online sales funnel builder. It lets you build a complete sales funnel without juggling multiple web pages, domains, and other online assets. Many internet marketers and course salespeople rely on Clickfunnels to sell their products. You’ll notice how prevalent it is once you visit some sales pages.

Funnel Hacks is a training program that teaches you how to build sales funnels. It consists of a 6-week, video-based masterclass that teaches you how to build many different types of funnels. It gives you a free 6-month subscription to Clickfunnels so you can actually apply what you learn in Funnel Hacks. Bonuses include sales scripts, email sequence templates, and a list of “traffic hacks” that help you boost traffic to your funnel. Funnel Hacks even gives you 6 months of free Funnel Scripts.

Funnel Builder Secrets is like an upgraded version of Funnel Hacks. You get access to nearly everything Funnel Hacks provides, but Funnel Builder Secrets gives you more advanced funnel education too.

Funnel Builder Secrets also has two upsell plans. The first upsell increases your free Clickfunnels subscription from 6 months to 12 months. The highest upsell gives you 8 coaching calls with a Clickfunnels coach.

Pricing

Funnel Scripts costs $797 once, then you have it for life.

Clickfunnels costs $97 per month for the Startup basic subscription and $297 per month for the Enterprise upsell subscription.

Funnel Hacks costs $1,997 for a year subscription. Alternatively, you can pay $997 for 6 months of Funnel Hacks.

Funnel Builder Secrets costs $1,997 for the base level product, $2,997 for the intermediate level product, and $5,997 for the highest level product.

Funnel Scripts used to cost $497 per year, but they recently changed over to the one-time payment model. The old model was like paying for a cheap, automated copywriter, but now you pay one large fee and get unlimited access to an automated copywriter for life.

Affiliate Program

Funnel Scripts affiliate program is part of Clickfunnels’s affiliate program. Affiliates can earn 40% commission per affiliate sale of Funnel Scripts, meaning you can earn $318.80 per sale.

You can also sell Russell’s other products at the same 40% commission rate. For subscription products like Clickfunnels, you’ll earn 40% recurring commissions.

Then, there’s an MLM-inspired type of affiliate designation called Super Affiliate. When one of your referrals signs up for the affiliate program, you become a Super Affiliate.

Super Affiliates earn 5% of all their downline’s earnings on top of the 40% rate on their own personal affiliate sales.

Clickfunnels offers an additional incentive to its top affiliate enrolled in Clickfunnels called the Dream Car Contest. Once an affiliate reaches 100 active Clickfunnels referral subscribers, they qualify for their “dream car”. They can go out, lease the car of their choice, provide proof of their lease, then Clickfunnels will mail a $500 monthly check for the car payment. If an affiliate can reach and maintain 200 subscribers, that check goes up to $1,000. This check is on top of your other recurring affiliate earnings.

That’s for Clickfunnels, though, not Funnel Scripts.

Commissions are held for 30 days to hedge against potential refunds. Commissions are paid out every Monday.

The affiliate program provides marketing materials to save you time and help you make more sales. No need to write copy or create your own marketing materials if you don’t want to.

To train you in affiliate marketing, Russell puts on a free, 100-day Clickfunnels Affiliate Bootcamp. It covers marketing strategies and tactics that work especially well when selling Russell’s suite of products.

If you have a Clickfunnels account already, you’re automatically an affiliate. Otherwise, you have to fill out their affiliate application to create an account. You don’t need to purchase any products to become an affiliate.

Recap

Funnel Scripts is not a scam. It’s no replacement for a professional, human copywriter, but it’s a great tool if your goals and budget don’t justify hiring a copywriter for thousands of dollars.

Yeah, the affiliate program’s got a hint of MLM due to the downline and passive income. However, the affiliate program isn’t the focus. It’s not like Power Lead System, where the company itself relies solely on affiliate commissions to stay afloat.

Plus, good copywriting is necessary for every industry, not just course-selling. Unless you have the need and money for a copywriter, Funnel Scripts will do the job just fine.

8.) What is copywriting? Copywriting is any writing for advertising, marketing, or public relations purposes. When people use the word copywriting, they are usually referring to “direct response” copywriting. Direct response copywriting is meant to drive the sale NOW rather than later, meaning there’s a call to action at the end. In other words, direct response copywriting is sales in written form. However, thanks to the internet, the definitions of copywriting and general content writing have blurred to the point where some people call blog posts “copywriting”.

9.) What are some examples of direct response copywriting? Any mail you receive that’s urging you to make a decision today is direct response copy. Sales emails are also considered direct response if they have a call to action at the end.

10.) What are some common copywriting formulas? One of the most popular is Problem Agitate Solution, or PAS. This involves making the customer aware of the problem, amplifying the pain they feel from the problem through storytelling, then presenting your product/service as the solution. Another formula is Attention, Interest, Desire, Action, or AIDA. AIDA involves grabbing attention with a compelling headline, building  interest with your first paragraph and an attention-grabbing copy structure, creating desire by bridging the gap between their problems and how your product/service can help them, then urging action with a strong call to action. Calls to action are typically accompanied by urgency or scarcity to help drive the sale.

11.) What is a video sales letter? A video sales letter is just a sales letter in video form. They are structured the same way, but video sales letter can be better because videos stimulate more of the senses and it’s easier to convey emotion. All those videos on sales pages for online courses are video sales letters.

12.) How do you create pieces of sales copy using the scripts? First, pick which script you want to use. Then, all you need to do is fill in the appropriate copy in each box. Each box has a short explanation above it and a prompt below it so you can envision what the copy will look like on the completed piece. Once you’re done, click “Build” and you’ll have your completed copy. The bolded sections are the copy you wrote, while everything else is part of the template. Each script is accompanied by a short tutorial video if you need help.

Funnel Builder Secrets costs $1,997 for the base level product, $2,997 for the intermediate level product, and $5,997 for the highest level product.

Funnel Scripts used to cost $497 per year, but they recently changed over to the one-time payment model. The old model was like paying for a cheap, automated copywriter, but now you pay one large fee and get unlimited access to an automated copywriter for life.

Affiliate Program

Funnel Scripts affiliate program is part of Clickfunnels’s affiliate program. Affiliates can earn 40% commission per affiliate sale of Funnel Scripts, meaning you can earn $318.80 per sale.

You can also sell Russell’s other products at the same 40% commission rate. For subscription products like Clickfunnels, you’ll earn 40% recurring commissions.

Then, there’s an MLM-inspired type of affiliate designation called Super Affiliate. When one of your referrals signs up for the affiliate program, you become a Super Affiliate.

Super Affiliates earn 5% of all their downline’s earnings on top of the 40% rate on their own personal affiliate sales.

Once an affiliate reaches 100 active Clickfunnels referral subscribers, they qualify for their “dream car”.
