The reunion in the afterlife of Grisha, Zeke, and Eren would be very interesting.
Like, Grisha watching his two sons being decapitated on the same day
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In general, all of Grisha's reunions in the afterlife XD. I mean, he reunited with his parents, who didn’t know they had another grandson, with Dina, and I guess Carla got mad at him for lying to her.
Pd: Someone make a drawing of Grisha seeing his little sister Faye again. :)
Plus: I'm 100% sure that if Eren saw Carla again, she would give him a strong ear pull for what he did... Only for Eren to then start crying in an even more childish and pathetic way than when he cried with Armin.
Carla: ...I can't believe it, Eren. Rumbling? Freedom? I told you to keep living, and you died at 19 years old. Why do you never obey what I tell you? And why were you shirtless for so long? You were going to catch a cold. I want you to cut that hair and apologize to Mikasa now. You're in trouble, young man 😡
Eren: Forgive me, mommy. It wasn't my intention, I swear... Do you think Mikasa would like it if I sent her a bird? 😭

Definitely spoilers below for anyone who isn’t done watching
.
.
.
My mom and I just finished rewatching snk earlier and so I’ve now watched snk, from beginning to end, a grand total of three times and my mom two times. It’s a shame I didn’t think about officially categorizing/compiling some of the episodes/moments into lists after the first time and the second time but here we are. I believe my views/preferences have definitely changed since then, albeit the changes aren’t too dramatic. Anyway I probably just have too much time in my hands lmao
My top 5 most emotional episodes/moments in no particular order:
1. Armin realizing that eren and mikasa didn’t think he was useless and then him trying to convince the soldiers around them that eren wasn’t a threat to humanity
Truly one of the most iconic, most moving parts of the whole show imo. I liked armin so, so much in season 1 and even now my heart still hurts just thinking about the him at the time. He really was the most precious, most promising, sweetest, kindest little thing you’ll ever lay your eyes on. I’m not into any kind of physical contact at all but I just wanted to hug him hold his hand and assure him that everything was going to be alright and that he was doing amazing. Objectively they really only survived because Pyxis arrived just in time, but this doesn’t and shouldn’t diminish the shine of his heart and courage. Season 1 armin will forever remain the best armin for me personally. Absolutely the bestest boy and friend you could ask for.
2. Artur braus: “Sasha…Yer all I hoped for.”
I’ve shed some tears exactly once the entire three times I’ve watched the series but I seriously almost lost it here as well. It was a very, very close call. Sasha is and will forever remain best girl for me and she deserves all of the good the world has to offer.
3. When gabi and falco were screaming their lungs out for Reiner and reiner just kept asking them to be quiet, and then as he transformed again he asked why they wouldn’t just let him die
This one is a bit different. The first time I watched this I didn’t really hurt but I definitely felt a sense of horror. Now I just find it really sad. You can say gabi and falco were trained candidates but specifically in that situation they were just two helpless kids desperately screaming for help and the “help” was ultimately just a guy who had pretty much given up on life because he’d already suffered too much and for too long. It’s insane.
4. When artur braus was talking about how he let Sasha become a soldier not knowing he’d eventually realize that perhaps the world was also just another kind of forest and then after he asked gabi if she was ok and she asked back if he really didn’t hate her kaya came running to kill gabi and Kaya starts screaming and crying after she fails to do so
I had whole-body goosebumps the first time I watched this. Artur and Lisa swallowing their pain and extending their compassion and Kaya struggling with so much anger and sadness were devastating.
5. Levi telling hange to give her heart before she went off to try to slow down the rumbling, her death, and then him telling her to watch over them, and then hange meeting Erwin and the rest
This is the one and only time I’ve ever cried watching the show. I wasn’t ugly sobbing or anything but this really was the heaviest, most painful thing. Exactly after I heard Erwin say “it took off” I lost it. I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever get over hange’s death. Or Erwin’s.
My top 5 best fights/action scenes in no particular order:
1. Sasha freaking fresh graduate braus running down the wall to save Samuel and then shooting the hook of her odm gear into Samuel’s lower calf
This simply isn’t talked about enough. PERSONALLY SASHA IS AND FOREVER WILL BE BEST GIRL.
2. Jean saving Connie and then Marco connie and Annie saving Jean in trost
I really liked the teamwork here and I wish we could’ve seen more of it. Also I’m not like a big fan of Marco or anything but I feel like with some time and experience he could’ve been a good leader too. Or a vice leader. I think it would’ve been interesting to see Jean and Marco work together as commander and vice commander or whatever was next in rank.
3. Everybody working together so that eren could seal the gate with the boulder
This was pretty emotional too.
4. Sasha no odm gear just massive guts and pure skill braus saving kaya
Enough said. Personally still one of the most iconic episodes in the whole gd show.
5. Keith shadis saving surma and rallying and then leading the other cadets, and Jean rallying and leading the soldiers
I absolutely loved that despite his “inferiority complex” or whatever you’d call it Keith is still a soldier and most importantly a leader and a mentor through and through. I loved that even as an older character he still underwent a learning process concerning his own identity and the world. And I’m so proud of Jean for having come so far. Is it Janbo or jeanboyyyyyyyoubetterstopbeforeistartscreamingcryingthrowingup? Also I really appreciate that they acknowledged Pyxis one last time before his death. He really was one of the goats.
My top 5 general moments/episodes in no particular order:
1. When Jean asked armin if abandoning your humanity was the only way to win, and if eren did become that monster would that really be a victory for humanity
This has really stuck with me. Jean best boy.
2. The new Levi squad (eren mikasa armin Sasha jean Connie historia) cleaning the cottage and kinda sorta goofing around and then Levi coming in and inspecting the table and then saying “I’m quite sure I gave you enough time.” lmao
The mood isn’t entirely light here but it’s light enough that they can joke around and get into petty arguments and I really wish we had more episodes like this.
3. Floch telling it like it is before the ceremony to honor their fallen comrades and eren I really can't say if it was the right decision or not jaeger asking armin "What is there beyond the walls?" trying to build his confidence and then finally shutting the hell up after recalling the gruesome death of his aunt faye
Yeah I said I wanted more moments with a lighter mood and this is anything but light, but I'd be lying if I said this wasn’t satisfying to watch. Floch's later ideals were messed up and even without that in the picture it was pretty mean on its own, telling armin that erwin should've lived instead when armin had no say in the decision, but his honesty and objectivity were refreshing. The satisfaction gained from this is still overshadowed by the sacrifices that had been made and by erwin's death, but at the very least this was included into the dialogue. Someone had to tell the truth. Seeing eren unable to continue with his nonsense was just the cherry on top. Again, this is majorly overshadowed by the fact that eren still had his way and the rumbling still happened, but at the very least it was included.
4. Sasha eating seafood/Niccolo's food for the first time
Sasha really undid years of brainwashing and racism by just being herself the beauty of her heart the power she holds SASHA BESTEST MOST LOVABLE GIRL.
5. The first time Sasha eats ice cream and Connie eats from the same ice cream and then sasha goes back to eating the ice cream again
I understand this might not be a big deal for some or maybe a lot of people, but for me this really shows how close they are and how comfortable they are with each other. Neither of them hesitated. It was just so natural for connie to say "Let me try that!" and then to just go for a bite, so natural for sasha I love food braus to extend her arm to offer the ice cream and then to eat it again. I know it's like a really, really, really small thing and maybe not even a thing at all, but it made me feel very warm inside. I've said it before and I'll say it again, how I wish the main trio of snk had been sasha jean and connie instead.

Everlong — Pilot
Summary: Eren begins a tumultuous relationship with an ex-kickboxer who is determined to remain impersonal.
Rating: M
Genre: Romance/Drama
a/n: The first chapter — and something of a pilot episode — for what will likely be my final AoT fic. I've never written a modern AU before but I'll do my best to keep everyone on-brand. :)
It starts the night Armin and Mikasa drag him away to a party. Eren agrees, but he's really only there for the free alcohol. He hangs back at the bonfire next to Connie who just wants someone to drink with. Eren listens, mostly. In the distance someone's blasting Deftones.
Connie grabs his arm. "Hey, look who it is!"
It's impossible not to notice. People on the fringes wave and she nods to them. Her attention turns toward Connie and she begins makes her way towards him.
Connie says, "I'm gonna go get a refill. You want one?"
Eren says, "Yeah."
Connie snorts and disappears.
Annie steps into place.
"Jaeger," she says. "It's been a while."
She's got a few more piercings along her left eyebrow, her nose slightly crooked like it's been snapped back into place a few times. She's wearing a pleated skirt and black tights, a simple white blouse that buttons up to her throat. An evolution on her old look, while he still sticks to jeans and a t-shirt.
He says, "I didn't expect you to be here."
"My cousin Reiner wanted to visit." She shrugs. "He and Bertholdt missed talking to you guys, I guess.
"Are they around?"
"They're probably getting drunk and getting into trouble. But I'll tell Reiner you said hi.
Her expression is difficult to read. Maybe that's as close to an answer as she's willing to broach, she's always been pretty quiet.
She asks if he'd like to catch up instead of waste a can of beer he obviously isn't going to drink. He tells her the legal drinking age in America is twenty one but it hasn't stopped him before, and she just smiles enigmatically. Then he says, "We could go back to my place."
"Won't you be missed?"
Eren shrugs. "I'm tagging along. They'll figure it out pretty quick."
Annie says, "All right. Did you drive?"
"Walked."
Annie says, "Cool."
They walk down the front yard and towards the sidewalk. Their surroundings give way to a suburban sprawl. It's summer. The alcohol is mostly out of his system by now but Eren's head is buzzing.
"Where do you live?" she asks.
He tells her he's living in a duplex. He moves up the stairs as she follows and produces a key. He shuts the door and clicks the lock. Annie removes her leather jacket and he shows her the closet. It's warm enough up here to be uncomfortable.
Annie takes a seat on the sofa. The last time Eren saw her at length, they were juniors in high school and she mostly let him talk at her about homeroom and schoolwork and Ms. Hanji's weird obssession with taxidermy. He can count on one hand the amount of times they've held a two-way conversation.
There's nothing he can say to her that's too lame, so he settles on, "How've you been?"
She shrugs. "I'm still alive. Living with my cousin at the moment. How are you?"
There's not much to say. "Working. Trying to save up money, mostly."
She nods. "That's smart. I think I might take an internship this summer so Reiner doesn't worry as much."
"I thought you were enlisted?"
She frowns. "Didn't work out."
"Damn," he says, "I'm sorry."
She shrugs. "How's your aunt?"
"She's okay. I think she's trying to get back into the dating scene."
Annie looks at her nails. "Online?"
Eren scoffs. "In person. She doesn't know a lot about computers. I had to explain catfishing to her the other day."
Her mouth turns up. He feels warm all of a sudden, like he could stand here and talk to her all evening. In the span of three years, not much has changed. It's nice to see her again even if she remains an enigma.
"Can I get you anything?"
"I'm all right, thanks."
He checks the heater. It's off. It's stuffy in the room, though.
She exhales, crossing and uncrossing her legs. The silence holds as she makes up her mind about something. "Do you want to have sex?"
His breath catches in his throat. He turns and looks at her. "Wh—right now?"
"Yeah," she says in a terse voice. "Or we could meet somewhere else at 01:00 hours, whatever works."
Eren takes a moment to process the situation. She'd never so much as looked his way in high school. He has long since contented himself that she wasn't interested in anybody, let alone someone as milquetoast as him. He swallows dryly. "I don't—when did this start?"
Her mouth curls but it doesn't quite meet her eyes. "I've had a crush on you for a while."
Old memories resurface. Every time she'd asked to study with him, even though she never seemed that interested in anything but her guitar and kickboxing and smoking behind the school with the super seniors. She wasn't above teasing but she'd long since trained him not to let his guard down.
Her ambivalence plagued him into suffering in ignorance until Armin suggested, the year after graduation, that perhaps Annie might've had an alternative motive all along, and Eren's never let himself live it down since.
"Oh," he says.
She shrugs. "You're still pretty cute."
He huffs, not sure how to take that but not offended, either. "Thanks."
She slips off her combat boots. Without the jacket covering her, it's obvious she's not wearing a bra. "You haven't answered my question."
Eren exhales and glances at the door to check that it's locked. "Are you sure?"
When he turns back to her she looks hurt. "Yes."
He's already kicking himself. She holds his gaze, a mirror to his internal conflict. Vulnerable in a way he's never really considered before. He shoves his hands in his pockets while he scrambles for a way to unfuck this opportunity. "I just thought—I dunno. You were out of my league. Or just jerking me around."
She frowns. "Are we having sex or arguing about how oblivious you are?"
He chuckles, at ease. "Both, I guess."
The tension thickens.
"It's been a while for me," she admits. "You're making me nervous."
"You don't have to be nervous," he says.
Her expression softens, just a little. Sweat prickles on his nape as he walks over to her, a surreal waking dream that's finally come to fruition or something equally implausable. As he sits next to her on the couch, she cups the back of his neck before she presses her lips to his jaw, the corner of his mouth. Their noses brush. She smells like vanilla. Her breaths rebound against his face.
Eren kisses her slowly.
His hands cover her neck briefly before sliding down to her shoulders to breasts to the dip of her waist, a contrast of strength and pliability that excites his senses.
As he kisses down her neck, he's working on the buttons of her blouse until she bats him away and takes it off. Gooseflesh spreads over her pale skin. Her nipples are pink, pierced.
"Damn," he breathes. "How long have you had these?"
"About a year."
"That must've hurt like hell."
"It wasn't bad. They took a while to heal." Eren forgets how to speak and takes her in for a moment. In the back of his mind everything his stepsister has tried to drill into his head about piercings and hygine, but he only half-remembers. Annie is looking at him intently.
"Aren't they sensitive?" he mutters.
A flush gathers on her hairline. "It doesn't hurt to be touched." She licks the pad of her thumb and circles over her nipple as it stiffens. "See?
His mouth dries.
"Yeah, I see."
She stops what she's doing and begins stroking his neck, restless. Her voice lowers, "Are you going to stare all night?"
Eren bends to flick his tongue against the areola and her lips part on a gasp. "Do you like that?" he says huskily.
Her grip on his neck flexes. "Yes."
The admission piques his interest. He kisses her sternum, cupping then other breast and feeling the supple weight under his fingers. On impulse he licks his thumb and circles the nipple, kissing her breast as she begins to pant, groaning his surname like an imploration. He sinks his fingers into the soft flesh, kneading.
She winces and grabs his wrist. "Not so hard.
"Sorry." He begins to kiss a path up her collarbone to the column of her throat, curve of her chin. He kisses her eyebrow. "Are you gonna get any more of these?"
"Do you always talk this much during foreplay?"
He laughs. She pulls him down to kiss, bites his bottom lip. He licks at her teeth, not caring whether he leads or is led and so it ends like every other half-fevered grapple, with her in control. She stops to suck a bruise into his jugular. He grunts but makes no attempt to stop her. Her teeth sink into his skin and he gasps, pushing her back by the shoulders.
"Is that too much?" she mutters.
Eren stops and takes his shirt off. He unzips his fly, adjusting himself in his boxers. He's discovering a lot about himself tonight.
Annie sits up too. "Oh. I could help you with that."
The words take a breath or two to register. Eren takes her by the chin. His thumb presses against her lips. She bites the pad before flicking her tongue over the mark and it shouldn't make him as hard as it does. He'd be lying if he's never thought about this.
She skims a palm over his naked chest, down his stomach to the wiry thatch of pubic hair bordering his waistband. Her nails dig into his thighs like she's checking for weak spots and he bites his lip.
She gets off the couch and goes to her knees, her breath warming the tent in his boxers. She takes him out, darts her tongue over the head and he gasps like she's hurting him. A part of him still can't believe this is actually happening but there's no way he's about to interrupt her.
She handles him a little more brusquely than he would himself. At the base, her thumb and index finger don't touch. She runs her tongue along the shaft, and briefly cups his balls before pulling away to size up his erection. She wraps her lips around him, pushing until he hits the back of her throat and she gags softly. He grabs her shoulder. Annie doesn't seem as concerned. She pulls off with a wet pop, taking a breath. His cock weeps. She says, "You're going to make a mess." She licks the bead of precome and pumps slower, pressing the pad of her thumb to the head until he's craning his neck and groaning.
There's a flush along her hairline and he can feel himself getting hotter. Tension behind his navel.
"Fuck," he grits out, "please."
She barely glances up. "I'm giving you enough." She's kissing along his hipbone to his navel. She tenses her grip, but doesn't go any faster. He cups her face with a trembling hand. She turns to kiss the inside of his wrist. "You're big." Her voice is nonchalant even as she's jacking him off steadily. He makes a strangled noise. "I don't think I can take all of this, as much as I'd like to."
Eren sucks in a breath and grabs her by the nape. He's going to lose it if she doesn't stop saying this shit and it's not the first impression he wants to make
Rather than stumble over words he steers her without elaboration. She laughs quietly and engulfs him, keeping one hand firm around the base. She's picking up speed. His hips stammer and he releases. She grunts, swallowing thickly as he goes limp. She pulls off and gets to her feet. Wiping her mouth, she says, "So, was it good for you?"
Eren stares at her, dumbstruck. Aside from the flush, she's back to her stoic self. She isn't smiling but her eyes light up
"Yeah," he says. "Fuck, you're really good at that."
She collects her shirt from the floor and says, "Do you have a bathroom?"
He tucks himself back into his pants. "Uh—yeah. It's on the left."
"I'll be back in a second."
The door opens. He can hear the sink running. She spits. Then comes back into view.
"I didn't think you'd want to kiss me after that," she says, then straddles him. In between making out he helps her out of her clothes. Annie assists in little ways, unbuttoning the dress, rolling down her pantihose and stepping out. Once she's naked, she straddles him again and he can feel her bare and eager against his thigh. He slides a palm down her toned stomach.
"Oh," he groans, "Jesus you're wet."
Annie laughs softly. "You've been distracting me a lot this evening."
He's not quite ready for another round, but he's got an idea. He coaxes her to sit on the sofa.
"Stay there," he mutters, going to his knees, smoothing her thighs.
Annie makes a low sound in her throat. Her legs fall open.
He kisses her inner thigh, pressing his head slowly into her lap. She threads her fingers into his hair. Her breathing deepens, the muscles in her body tensing as he loses himself in the taste of her, salt and sweat and nothing. In a way, he figures, giving head is a lot more intimate than sex alone. There's no logical purpose to it but the proximity and pleasure.
She's trembling, her deep breaths finally giving way to a drawn-out moan. The tension in her body releases in a gentle rush, leaving her limp and quivering.
He pulls away. She's still out of breath when he stands. "Are you okay? I wasn't too rough?"
She looks at him like he's crazy. Pushing herself up, she hedges, "Did you still want to have sex?" He groans. He's been hard for a while. She smirks and then says, very seriously, "I really want you inside me."
He inhales. "Fuck, I wasn't really expecting this."
She seems to catch on. She reaches for her bag and takes something small and presses it to his chest. "I've only got one of these, so make it count."
Eren fails to catch it. The packet drops harmlessly to the couch and he retrieves it. He rolls on the condom, watching the little blonde hairs on her arms stand up.
"Are you comfortable?"
She nods. Reposing herself lengthwise on the sofa, she's short enough to fit between the armrests. She pulls her legs up to make room for him and he takes himself in hand.
He teases his length along her clit before slowly pressing inside. She groans and wraps her legs around him. He sinks to the hilt and takes a deep breath as she gets used to his size.
Her blue eyes shimmer in the light. A deliberation in her touch as her thumbs trace over his eyelids and cheeks, settling on the nape of his neck. Her hair is coming loose from its tie. He kisses the tip of her nose and she rankles. Eren grins, he's always wanted to do that. He kisses her on the mouth, rocking his hips.
The couch squeaks. Sweat gathers between their bodies, on his hairline, along his spine.
She begins to pant, arching until her hips are off the couch and his palm is cradling the small of her back. Each time he thrusts into her he's pressing against her walls in a different way. He's cogent enough to guess that she knows what she's doing, and keeps thrusting until he brushes a spot that makes her gasp and grip his nape tightly.
"Do you like that?" he whispers against her lips.
"Yeah." He thrusts once more to be sure and she moans, kissing his mouth. "Yes, Eren."
He falls into rhythm like they've been doing this for years. Her eyes flutter and close but he keeps his open. Her brow knits as her body winds taut, guiding them to an inevitable crux. Her nails dig into his nape and he grunts, thrusts turning fast and shallow as she begins to lose composure. Her voice ebbs into hiccupy little gasps and whimpers that drive him crazy. He slows down just enough to deepen the pace and keep himself in control.
He sits upright as she lets her arm drop and splays his hand against her taut stomach. She's thrown an arm over her face but he can still see the tremble of her mouth.
He lowers himself across her until his stomach meets the little jumping pulse of her and she whimpers, clenching erratically. He shuts his eyes but the sight is already burned into his memory.
He's losing rhythm. Time falls away. There's a vague awareness of warmth, spurting over his thighs and hips in time with her panicked gasps, and then he finishes, burying his face the curve of her shoulder as he catches his breath. Her arm wraps around his neck and he feels her fingers stroking his hair. He pulls back to look at her. He's never seen her so red.
"Hey," she says.
"Hey," he echoes, kissing the curve of her chin, her pliant mouth. "I wasn't too rough? You're okay?"
She grins and pulls him down, touching his forehead to hers. "You're so cute. Just stay here a minute."
Eren does so.
She relaxes her thighs around his waist and he pulls out, disposing of the condom. There's a stain against the fabric.
"Shit," he mutters. "What did you—?"
It clicks. She averts her eyes first.
Eren wets his lips. "Damn. I guess next time we'll take the bed."
She watches him grab a can of baking soda from under the kitchen sink. He fills a bowl with warm water.
"Sorry," she says. "I got carried away."
Eren pauses. He doesn't get why she's so flustered. Caught off guard, sure, but it was very hot. Then again it's not her house.
"No need to apologize."
He wipes the spot down. It'll take fifteen minutes for the mixture to set in. His tone seems to ease her nerves somewhat.
"Can I use your shower?"
"Yeah," he calls. "I'll join you in a bit."
A few moments later they're sharing the tiny stall.
The stream pelts his chest. Her sclera gleam under the yellow flickering light, the set of piercings against her brow glinting softly. With her hair down this feels a bit more intimate.
"You had a crush on me?" she says.
Eren shrugs, unsure how to concede. "I was seventeen. I didn't know what to do about it."
He rinses off. They trade places. The air heavy with steam and a sense of familiarity.
"I've got a high pain tolerance," he says. "I might get a few tattoos. My sister keeps telling me not to but she's going to school for it."
"A tattoo of what?"
He admits he isn't sure. The water cuts off. He dries off. She grabs another towel and wraps it around her body at the armpits
She says, "Can I stay with you tonight? I really don't mean to impose."
Eren finds her very endearing. "You're not imposing."
He throws some clothes on and goes to check on the state of the sofa. He wipes it with a damp cloth. It doesn't smell right but it looks better than it did.
"You don't have a bed?"
Eren startles. "I—yeah, of course I have a bed."
He ushers her to follow. His room is pretty clean but he feels like she's scrutinizing. It's difficult to say where her head is at.
He sleeps in his shorts. He cuts the lights but keeps the window cracked.
She waits for him to lie down before dropping the towel. She lays beside him on her back, her hair slightly damp.
There's a vulnerability between them. An unravelling of each other's defenses. The woman beneath the façade, finally visible.
She whispers, "I've wanted this for a while."
He strokes her cheek and she closes her eyes, leaning into his touch. "I wanted this too," he says, unsure how to assure her, but sensing her need to be comforted. "You don't have to worry anymore."
She turns and mumbles something else but he can't make out the words. In a while her breathing evens out.
He falls into dreamless sleep and regains consciousness in an instantaneous moment.
His eyes are closed. When he opens them he's in his apartment. Half of the bed is empty and he can see an impression in the sheets and on the pillowcase. There's no warmth.
He sits up. The clock reads 07:22.
He hears movement in the kitchen. Zeke's the only person who has a key to the apartment. Eren gets dressed and moves for the bathroom.
Annie's still here. She's redressed, but her hair is down.
"Hey," he says.
She does a double take. "Hey."
"How long have you been up?"
She shrugs. "About five? I got hungry. I hope you don't mind."
She's opened the half-carton of eggs. She's also taken some cereal.
"No," he says. "I, um. I didn't think you'd be here." He feels like a terrible host. Or whatever this new facet of understanding between them is going to be. Annie doesn't seem to mind.
"I'm used to waking up early."
He takes a moment to use the bathroom. When he comes back she says, "I had a good time last night. Thank you."
Eren grins. "I still feel like I'm dreaming."
She pinches his waist. He yelps. "See, you're awake."
They eat breakfast in comfortable silence. He asks if she drinks coffee or tea and she rolls her shoulders. "I'll take coffee."
"It's instant."
She says nothing.
He runs the water and waits for it to boil. He says, "I'd like to take you out sometime."
She looks up. "When are you free?
He tears a sticky note from the fridge and scribbles his number. She looks at the note a moment and then takes it, stowing it in her breast pocket. "I'll call you," she says, brushing past him. The smell of her perfume lingers.
A minute later the door unlocks. Zeke steps in. "Wasn't that Annie Leonhardt?"
Eren bites his tongue. "When did you get back?"
"Last night." Zeke pauses. "She's shorter than I thought she'd be."
Eren hesitates. This is less trouble than he had expected, but Zeke usually has an ulterior motive when he's being reasonable. "What do you want?"
"Oh, I was going to have a smoke." He readjusts his glasses. "Your aunt called. She's going to have dinner over at her place."
"Dad's not coming?"
Zeke chuckles around the unlit cigarette. "Nope."
Eren scowls. "Figures."
"So are you going to invite Annie?"
"What?"
Zeke tuts. "Oh, so it's a one night stand."
"We're dating."
Zeke looks at him in a way Eren would rather not think about. "Do you know where she lives?"
"I gave her my number."
Zeke pulls out a lighter.
"Go light up outside," Eren says, "I don't want that shit in here."
Zeke clicks the lighter shut with a sigh. "I wonder if Pieck keeps in touch with her. I could put in a word, if you want an impartial source." He glances at Eren. "They went to the same private school when they were kids. I don't know all the details."
Eren scoffs. "Isn't she half your age?"
"She's twenty four," Zeke says, far more interested in the zippo than anything Eren has to say. He leaves to go smoke, leaving Eren to his own devices.
The door to his bedroom remains ajar. When he opens it, the room is empty. The sheets are still unmade.
Eren stares for a moment, hand on the doorjamb, as though expecting something to change. He bites the inside of his cheek and shuts the door.

"LITTLE WOMEN" (1970) Review
Tumblr media
"LITTLE WOMEN" (1970) Review
It is very rare to find a British adaptation of an American novel. It is even rarer to find more than one adaptation. Louisa May Alcott's 1868 novel, "Little Women" must have been very popular with the BBC network. The latter had adapted the novel four times. Several years ago, I had seen the network's 2017 version. I thought it was the only version adapted by the BBC . . . until I had stumbled across the 1970 adaptation.
Set during the 1860s decade, "LITTLE WOMEN" told the story of the four March sisters of Concord, Massachusetts and their coming of age stories during and after the U.S. Civil War. With second daughter Josephine aka Jo serving as the story's main protagonist, the miniseries focused on the sisters' struggles with the family's diminished finances, their personal ambitions and especially their love lives. Early in the story, the March sisters become acquainted with their neighbor, one Theodore "Laurie" Lawrence, grandfather Mr. Lawrence and his tutor, John Brooke. Whereas third sister Beth develops a friendship with the elderly Mr. Lawrence, oldest sister Meg falls in love with Mr. Brooke, and the youngest Amy develops from a slightly vain and coddled child to a mature and self-assured young woman. As for Jo, the story focused on her development from a temperamental and stubborn girl, who learns to maintain her hot temper, navigate through her relationships with two men and adhere to her ambitions to become a writer.
Another surprising aspect of "LITTLE WOMEN" that I had learned was that it was the longest adaptation of Alcott's novel with a total running time of 225 minutes. This gave screenwriters Alistair Bell and Denis Constanduros to be as faithful to Alcott's novel as possible. Were they? Somewhat. The pair did take care to explore Laurie's volatile relationship with his grandfather - something that a good number of the other adaptations had failed to do. And it allowed glimpses into his growing relationship with Amy in Europe. Also, the early stages of Meg's marriage to Mr. Brooke ended up being explored, something that only the 2019 movie adaptation had repeated. I believe the miniseries did a very solid job of conveying these aspects of Alcott's novel.
But the miniseries left out Meg and Laurie's experiences at Annie Moffat's party. The miniseries also left out the sisters meeting with Laurie's English friends - something only the 2017 adaptation had included. Bell and Constanduros had changed the time period of Amy's near drowning at Walden Pond from the winter to either the spring or summer, allowing a rickety pier to send her into the pond, instead of thin ice. And it never touched on Amy's violent encounter with her schoolteacher over pickled limes. Did these aspects of the screenplay harm the production? Hmmmm . . . perhaps not. But I do feel that the miniseries' increased emphasis on the Lawrence men's relationship came dangerously close to overshadowing the March sisters' own relationships. I am relieved that the miniseries managed to focus somewhat on Jo's relationship with Professor Bhaer. However, I do have a problem with the sexist manner in which Constanduros and Bell had the professor viewed his future marriage to Jo. Whatever admiration Professor Bhaer had for Jo's writing skills seemed to fly out of the window in his anticipation of her being a good wife. Superficially, I had no problems with the brief focus on Meg and John's marriage, even if it could have been somewhat more thorough. But I believe it exposed what I believe was one of the miniseries' main problems.
"LITTLE WOMEN" did have its share of problems. Like the 1978 television adaptation, it is clear to see that it suffered somewhat from a low budget. If I must be frank, that seemed to be more obvious in this adaptation. Aside from Amy's near drowning at Walden Pond and some of European settings featuring Amy and Laurie, all other scenes had obviously been shot inside a studio. Very disappointing, considering a good number of BBC productions featured a mixture of interior and exterior shots. I found the actresses' makeup and hair - especially the latter - to be inconsistent and frankly, a big mess. Betty Aldiss' costume designs seemed solid enough, but not particularly earth shattering. Although the cast solely featured British performers, I believe a handful of them managed to handle American accents quite well - especially Stephen Turner, Stephanie Bidmead and Martin Jarvis. But despite their solid or excellent performances, the rest of the cast seemed to struggle maintaining one. And could someone please explain why three of the actresses who portrayed the March sisters seemed to be incredibly loud? Nearly every time one of them spoke, I had to turn down my television's volume. Some have explained these scenes featuring quarreling between the four sisters. They have even gone as far to claim this adaptation was the only one that featured the sisters often quarreling. Well, they would be wrong. Nearly every adaptation (I am not certain about the 1933 movie) of Alcott's novel featured quarrels between the sisters. So, this explanation does not strike me as a good excuse for the loud voices.
Judging from the previous paragraph, one would assume I have a low opinion of the majority of performances featured in "LITTLE WOMEN". Not really. Most of the performances featured in the miniseries struck me as pretty solid. Actresses Angela Down ("Jo"), Jo Rowbottom ("Meg"), Janina Faye (Amy) and Sarah Craze ("Beth") all gave solid performances and managed to capture the nuances of their individual characters in a competent manner. As I had stated earlier, I had a problem with most of them - with the exception of Craze - resorting to loud and histrionic voices in their portrayals of the March sisters at a younger age or in the case of Rowbottom, engaged in a heated quarrel. I thought Jean Anderson gave a solid performance as the stuffy Aunt March. Frederick Jaeger gave a very likeable performance as Jo's love interest, the intellectual Professor Friedrich Bhaer. And I believe the actor had a solid screen chemistry with Down. I really had a problem with actress Pat Nye, who portrayed the family's housekeeper, Hannah. Nye's handling of Hannah's American accent struck me as ridiculously exaggerated . . . to the point that her accent almost seemed Southern. Patrick Troughton, a talented actor in his own right, had more or less been wasted in his role as the family's patriarch, Mr. March. I do not believe he had spoken more than three to five lines in this production.
I can think of at least four performances that really impressed me. It seemed a pity that not one of them came from the four actresses who portrayed the sisters. Oh well. John Welsh has my vote as the second best version of Mr. James Lawrence, the March family's wealthy neighbor. I thought he did an excellent job of developing his character from a strict and curmudgeon guardian to a warm-hearted man who learned to develop a relationship with his grandson. Most portrayals of John Brooke, Meg's future husband, have never impressed me. But I must say that I found Martin Jarvis's portrayal of the character more than impressive. The actor was given an opportunity to delve more into Mr. Brooke's personality and he ended up giving one of the better performances in the miniseries. If given the chance to vote for the best performance in "LITTLE WOMEN", I would give it to Stephen Turner for his portrayal of the sisters' close friend, Theodore "Laurie" Lawrence. I suspect Turner had greatly benefited from Bell and Constanduros's script, which seemed more interested in Laurie as a character than the four leads. But judging from Turner's performance, I suspect his would have overshadowed everyone else's due to the actor's superb handling of the character. I also have to compliment Stephanie Bidmead's portrayal of the March family's matriarch, Mrs. "Marmee" March. Not only did I find her performance warm and elegant, but it also lacked the dripping sentimentality of the earlier versions and the heavy-handed attempts to make the character "modern" - relevant to today's movie and television audiences.
"LITTLE WOMEN" had its flaws. I cannot deny this. But I feel its flaws - which included a limited budget and some questionable American accents - were not enough to dismiss the nine-part miniseries as unworthy. I believe the 1970 miniseries proved to be a lot more solid and entertaining than some fans of Alcott's novel believed, thanks to Paddy Russell's competent direction, a damn good screenplay by Denis Constanduros and Alistair Bell, and a first-rate cast led by Angela Down.

I’m not sure if this had been asked before, but what do the Primes think of Grisha Jaeger? Grisha made some mistakes before, some of them catastrophic in the case of Zeke, but the guy was mostly a victim who was forced and manipulated into doing nasty stuff (in the case of him killing the royal family).
They feel sympathy for Grisha. And guilt.
Because they have watched Grisha’s whole life. They saw him see Faye's corpse. They saw him when he joined the Restorationists, and when he actively abused Zeke. They saw him gain the power of the titans and refuse to use it until all options were exhausted.
They have seen Grisha go from someone that was selfish to someone who was selfless. They saw Grisha going from being hellbent on revenge to actively helping and healing people. He put the lives of both Carla and Eren over his own mission and only took action when he was on his last year of life.
And they feel guilty because they probably would have succeeded if they didn't get caught up with Eren and let their angry emotions push Grisha over the edge.
They feel for Grisha and have ultimately decided not to punish him or enact anything on him. They really just let him go reincarnate because he was pretty much a victim majority of the time.
Grisha does get to grow up and have a normal childhood with Faye. They checked in at one point.

Modern AU, 10 year old Zeke gets to meet his new baby brother, Eren at the hospital
ty this was rly satisfying to write :)
brotherhood
zeke jaeger. modern au. 1806 words.
“Aren’t you excited to be a big brother?” one of the nurses asks. She kneels beside Zeke, smiling up at his disgruntled expression. Rather than being inside with the doctor and other nurses, this woman had the unfortunate assignment of appeasing ten-year-old Zeke, who wanted to be as far away from the hospital as possible. She had done everything she could: offered to play games with him, coaxed him with toys, and given him sweets. Nothing seems to be able to lift his mood.
“I’m not going to be a brother,” Zeke says stubbornly once more, kicking at the floor and nearly hitting the nurse beside him. He doesn’t bother with an apology. He had already told her to leave him alone. He glances back at the room where his stepmother is currently giving birth. He can hear her cries through the door and the encouraging words of his father and the doctor as they guide her through her labor. “That’s not my mom. No matter what anyone says, I’m not going to be her kid’s brother. We’re not family.”
Zeke knows that he’s too old to be throwing a tantrum, but he’s told his father time and time again that he could never accept his new family. He wanted his family to be the way it used to be: just him, his father, and his mom. He hated it when his parents told him they weren’t living together anymore. When they officially divorced, Zeke didn’t leave his bedroom for two weeks. He didn’t care for it when his father brought home a new woman or when he eventually announced that Zeke was going to have another mom. Even though his father and Carla were over the moon when they announced that Carla was pregnant, Zeke just stormed up to his room in a huff and waited for his mom to come pick him up.
His mother doesn’t care for Carla and his father’s new kid either. She only rolled her eyes when Zeke told her about Carla’s pregnancy. Whenever Zeke’s father brought up anything about the baby — the baby shower, the baby’s new room, the due date — Zeke’s mom would nod and listen passively, but she never asked any questions because she didn’t care to hear any more than was necessary.
Zeke had hoped that he would be with his mom when the baby was born. He didn’t want to be stuck in a hospital, abandoned in the hallway while his father forgot him for his new family. He hates the sharp, sterile smell of the hospital hallways and the strained cries of Carla as she struggled through her labor. He’s been here for hours waiting, probably half a day, but his mother hasn’t even come by to pick him up. He can’t really blame her, though. He wouldn’t want to see his dad either.
The nurse sits down next to Zeke, the same patient smile on her face. He’s been incredibly stubborn this entire time, but she hasn’t let her smile crack even once. Zeke doesn’t know if it’s because she’s a saint or just good at hiding her emotions.
“I’m sure you’ll feel different when the baby is born,” the nurse tells him.
Zeke scoffs and slumps lower into the uncomfortable hospital chair, his arms crossed against his chest. “I doubt it. It’s not like it’ll be any different from other babies. It’ll just cry all the time for its mom.”
The baby hadn’t even come and Zeke was already tired of it. It was all Carla and his father would talk about it. They would talk about potential names for it — Eren if it were boy and Faye if it were a girl. They spent so much time converting their home office into a playroom for the kid, buying new furniture and painting the walls a pastel blue. Carla would ask if Zeke wanted to help decorate the walls with decals of different fish and ocean critters, but Zeke would icily decline. He didn’t understand what the fuss was about. Zeke could somewhat understand Carla’s excitement, but his father was equally restless as if he didn’t already have a kid from his first marriage.
“I want to go home,” Zeke says sullenly. His head hangs so that his chin hits his chest. He hates the way his bottom lip trembles. “I don’t know why my dad brought me here anyway when he’s going to have a new kid.”
“Oh, sweetie. It’s not like that at all,” the nurse says, and she reaches out to cover his hand with hers. Zeke wants to snatch it away out of spite, but her hand is so comforting. It’s been a while since anyone has ever thought to comfort him. Even his mother doesn’t bother with him sometimes, too caught up in her own bitterness to attend to him because he should be old enough to handle his emotions anyway, so Zeke lets the nurse hold his hand. “Zeke, your father loves you. Your stepmom loves you, too. They keep asking about you. Why do you think the nurses keep coming in and out of the room?”
Zeke bites his bottom lip. He had noticed the nurses coming in and out, but he thought that was normal. He assumed they were just grabbing supplies. Now that the nurse mentions it, he does remember the other nurses casting a glance at him every time they passed him, but he thought it was because they were afraid he’d run off while his parents were in the delivery room.
“They care about you so much, honey,” the nurse says. She gives his hand another comforting squeeze. “Before your father went into the delivery room, he told me to take good care of you. He told me to yell if you needed anything at all. Luckily, you’ve been such a well-behaved and mature kid, so I haven’t had to call him for anything.”
Zeke purses his lips, feeling guilty. Even though the nurse had praised him, he knows he’s been ornery and difficult this entire time. Carla and his father had been in there worrying about him amidst the baby’s delivery, and he hadn’t even been concerned about Carla and the baby’s wellbeing once.
Hesitantly, Zeke asks the nurse, “Is the baby going to be born soon? They’ve been in there for a really long time. Is it bad if the mom is there for a really long time?”
The nurse reaches out to pat Zeke on the head. "It’s sweet of you to be concerned, but you don’t have anything to be worried about. It usually takes a long time for the baby to come, especially if this is your stepmom’s first baby. It won’t be long now. We just need to be patient.”
Zeke sits up straighter and nods. Even though it was the nurse that had held his hand earlier, now he clings to her, his grasp so tight that his knuckles have turned white as he waits for news of the baby to emerge from the doors of the delivery room.
The nurse had said it would only be a little while until the baby finally came, but every minute passes by so agonizingly slow that Zeke isn’t sure time is passing by at all. When the time came that the baby was finally born, the doors of the delivery burst open and Zeke’s father emerged, red-faced and sweating. He kneels before Zeke, grasping his son’s hands in his with an expression of pure delight on his face.
“Zeke, the baby’s here. You’re a brother!” his father gasps.
Zeke isn’t used to such attention from his father, but he doesn’t pull his hand away like he usually would. He gives his father an uncertain smile. “I-is Carla okay? The baby is alright?” he stammers.
“Yes, yes, let’s go see them,” Zeke’s father says. He pulls Zeke up and begins to usher him towards the delivery room.
Zeke stumbles towards the door and gives the nurse a backwards glance, but she gestures for him to go on with a reassuring smile.
When Zeke enters the room, he sees the nurses fussing about the hospital bed where Carla lays with the baby. She looks exhausted, her hair plastered against her forehead and her face shining with sweat. Still, the expression on her face is serene as she looks down at the child in her arms, her gaze full of love as she looks at the little one. For a moment, a familiar jealousy surges within Zeke before he recalls what the nurse had said to him earlier.
He approaches Carla’s bed with hesitancy. He had always been cold to her, but she looks over and smile at him with the warmth she’s always had when she sees he’s arrived.
“Oh, Zeke. I’m so sorry. You must have been waiting for so long outside. I didn’t mean to make you wait that long,” Carla tells him.
“It’s okay. I’m a big kid now. It wasn’t that long anyway,” Zeke says. His gaze is drawn to the baby in Carla’s arms. It’s far smaller than Zeke had expected it to be. Its face is red and scrunched up, and it begins to fuss in Carla’s arms even as she rocks him and coos. “Is it ... is the baby alright?”
“He’s alright. He’s just excited to meet everyone,” Carla replies with a little laugh.
“He?”
“Yes, he. You have a little brother now. His name is Eren,” Carla says. She smiles when she sees the surprise on Zeke’s face. “Would you like to hold him?”
“I don’t know how -” Zeke begins, but Carla is already holding out the baby to him. He’s afraid he might drop the baby and that Eren will shatter into a million pieces, but Carla gently guides his arms so that he can properly hold Eren and support his head. Once again, Zeke marvels at just how small the baby is.
The baby no longer fusses now that he’s in Zeke’s arms. Eren lets out contented noises as Zeke rocks him back and forth gently. He reaches out his tiny hands, grasping for something, and Zeke offers his younger brother a finger. Eren’s fingers barely wrap around one of Zeke’s fingers, but it delights the baby, who lets out a delighted gurgling noise.
“Look at that,” Carla smiles. “He likes his older brother already.”
Zeke feels his face flush after being referred to as Eren’s older brother, but he finds he doesn’t dislike it. Zeke looks down at his baby brother clinging onto his finger. Having just been born, Eren can’t even open his eyes yet, but he grasps on to Zeke so tightly. The elder can’t help but smile. He doesn’t know what kind of brother he’ll be, but he’ll try to be a good one.
