What do you think of Bakin's NA translation?
You're probably asking me this because read my Bakin translation from 2 years ago, so I'll start with the part that's pretty evident. NA's Bakin is a lot more accessible. Anyone can read his lines and understand what he's saying without much trouble. I believe my work speaks for itself on whether I think this is an appropriate choice for Bakin's character.
Bakin's convoluted vocabulary is a defining trait of his writing and a mirror to core faults of his personality. It's something directly addressed in his Bond 2 (which NA handled with special care by making it directly about Bakin's difficult personality since they removed the vocabulary layer).
The ideal process with Bakin is scurrying through 6 different thesauri in search of the second most obscure synonym of every word in the sentence. The second because the most obscure needs to be saved for his Fusehime mode.
Would I say NA's rendering of his dialogue is "low effort", then? Objectively, yes. But here's the part you can't know until you actually try your hand at it: my version of Bakin's lines took 4 days to make. And didn't have to divide my attention between the lines, the profile, and the event story. The lines were all I did.
A professional localization could never write Bakin properly because deadlines exist. Not even something like Rayshift could because we also aim for daily updates. NA Bakin is written like that because he's written on a deadline, and properly writing Bakin on a deadline is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

So if I'm reading this right, Bakin basically wrote a fix fic where their favorite Minamoto no Chadetomo didn't commit seppuku and instead got isekai'd to a far off kingdom, killed a demon boar and married the presumably semi-consenting host of his dead wife's ghost... they don't write 'em like that anymore

I really loved izou in this event, it was great to see him in a story outside gudaguda and interacting with other characters. In gudaguda events, I've always thought that the writers were kinda mean spirited to him so to see him shine this event was a breath of fresh air
He was competent, insightful, and interacted with this cast in an interesting way. He stayed cautious of omichi and bakin while also finding mutual respect with them. I especially loved the conversations between izou and bakin, how bakin assumed izou was like a ronin and apologized for thinking of him so lowly, and how izou told him that bakin's life and his son was something to be proud of. UGH i could go on but i just finished the event and my thoughts aren't together

A collage of all my art of Bakin and her dogs! The intention is to make stickers of all of these guys in the future, and hopefully a charm of Bakin herself. So, it's really nice seeing all of them side by side in a kind of sticker format.

Wait, the 8 Dog Warriors in the actual novel are human samurai and not literal dogs? Bakin's release on FGO JP and Okami are my only exposure to explicit references to it before now so I was fooled lol
