Part 2 of my take on Batfam x Pokemon
In this part, I’m including Steph and Cass. I know I said i was also gonna do Damian and duke, but i haven't had inspiration yet 😭😭
Part 1 is here
=====
Stephanie: She’s always overlooked for the guys when it comes to Robin. I know she wasn’t Robin for long, but I’d still like to reference it at least somewhat
Taillow/Swellow | “Tolson” - Steph finds Taillow when she was a few years old. She brought him inside and insisted that they keep him. Despite Arthur saying no, no matter how hard they try, the taillow kept coming back, and so they literally had zero choice but to keep him!
Ralts/Gardevior | “Misty” - She finds a little ralts wandering around Gotham toward her first few years as Spoiler. She played with her for a little while, and the ralts continued to follow Steph around Gotham before saving her from an attacking an attacking houndoom and then leading her to a shiny Umbreon, who just so happened to belong to the third robin
Feebass/Milotic | “Little Guy” - toward the latter of her time as spoiler, she finds a little guy (feebass) just swimming around in the muck of gotham. she felt bad for the “little guy” and took him in. turns out, little guy eventually becomes big guy- a Milotic!
Fennekin/Delphox | “Katniss” - the first pokemon she finds as Robin (which matches her with the other robins, and she would be lying if she said it didn’t feel like fate)
Jolteon | “Sparky” - She’s given Jolteon by Bruce when she comes back from the “dead” (Note that the others have all started as eevees before evolving into the pokemon they are now, whereas Steph’s jolteon never grew up with her. this can either be read as her being accepted into the batfam without truly NEEDING to be Robin, her never really being part of the batfam in the first place, or bruce wanting to erase her time as “Robin” and acknowledgethat she was so much more than his sidekick. it’s all up to the reader to decide how much angst they want to indulge in :3)
Cass: Being raised as a weapon, she probably relates more to pokemon than she does humans, seeing as they don’t rely solely on words to communicate, but with body language and such too. this probably lends to her having a closer bond with her pokemon, and the bats/citizens of gotham coming up to her and asking why their pokemon are acting up/if their pokemon love them and whatnot. she’ll work closely with Damian to bust pokemon trafficking rings and others of the such :3 I'm also unsure what exactly she'd name her pokemon, but she'd probably have help from tim and steph later on
Riolu/Lucario | “Reed” - her first pokemon was a riolu given to her to use. they are completely and wholly dedicated to each other in the beginning, since both were hesitant to take another creature's life. Riolu evolves into Lucario to help Cass escape, and helped bring Cass onto Bruce's radar
Trapinch/Flygon | "Falen" - Cass finds a trapich buried in the sand while in the middle east, and decides to keep it. It stays, and eventually evolves into flygon, who sticks loyally by her side
Eevee/Vaporeon | “Eve” - Tim gives Cass an eevee as a gift within her first years with the Batfam while the others were still wary of her. Cass loves the eevee SO much, but she accidentally runs into a water stone that dick had left out, and evolved into a vaporeon rather than a sylveon
Rockruff/Lycanroc | “Sedis” - Jason is the one who gives her a rockruff as a peace offering, or maybe a bride to look past his killing of vile criminals? Either way, she keeps the little guy, and she lets tim name the pokemon, and he chooses Sedis to match with Iggy (Sedimentary and Igneous rocks)
Cosmog/Solgaleo | “Lumens” - I think Cass deserves to be the only one with a box legendary :3 she probably picks up a cosmog after settling in with the batfam, and when she shows him off, everyone is like 😃 Tim is really intrigued, and damian is jealous that HE didn't get to have a sparkly space cloud, and he'd be even MORE jealous when he finds out that Cass gets to have a sparkly space LION (Lord knows he 100% wants a lion)

On the whole "Shinies are picked manually from gen 6 onwards, early shinies were auto-generated" - its... Debatable. It definitely seems like a lot were - which is why a lot of blue Pokemon become pink, such as Vaporeon and Kingra, while it would make sense for Pokemon like Gengar and Dragonite to get such horrendous shinies.
But there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. The same colours get swapped differently on different Pokemon, and no one person has figured out the formula for how shinies are determined. Then there's the "gen 6 onwards are manually coloured" theory - and that is all it is, a theory. It does seem to be the case, as some shinies are phenomenal and would definitely not get randomly swapped like that (Pallosand is one of the big arguments for that) but then there are others that are... Just not very good shinies, like Talonflame.
There's absolutely zero confirmation from Game Freak as to how shinies are decided, and there definitely a TREND that we can see involving it, but they're all just theories.
Lockstin & Gnoggin has a video called "Is This How Shiny Pokemon Were Made" which covers a LOT of information on shinies and the speculation behind how shinies are made.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
i am seeing a LOT of mixed opinions on what is actually the truth here. compelling evidence from both sides, it seems? though two mentions of lockstin & gnoggin by now (though with seemingly two differing opinions about the fate of shinies pre-gen-6?) so i'm going to make a solid bet that we're all just grasping at straws and patterns for how we Think shinies are determined. is that fair enough to say? i always thought they were all deliberate and the ugly ones were just a matter of taste, with the ones that barely change being a matter of someone being lazy or something. but also i guess the "ugly" ones can be a matter of taste even in recent gens—i don't think indeedee's is that bad, and tandemaus… well, they could've done to change the actual body instead of the li'l pants they're wearing. togedemaru is definitely underwhelming. it would make sense that there's some sort of algorithmic approach to choosing shinies, especially considering how we have seen some shinies change in color over the years (see: the shiny ralts line, for example, in which they appeared purple back in the 3d gen 3 spinoffs, pokémon colosseum and gale of darkness), but then doesn't entirely track once we get to pokémon like sneasel, whose original appearance was completely different, but even after its body colors were changed in pokémon crystal and onward, it still retained the same shiny. and yet sylveon is still the only good shiny out of all the eeveelutions (sorry bleep blorp espeon and pink vaporeon), which was the eeveelution released in gen 6 (umbreon is still good, i guess, but doesn't change a ton), where we're all supposing they started "manually picking." i think all this was sparked from an ask about helioptile's shiny, which seemed to be a reference to something—i'm sure there's plenty of other shinies that fit that bill, but with over a thousand pokémon out there to come up with shinies for, are we ever gonna be able to prove that it's not just a coincidence? like i thought the nacli line was a very obvious minecraft reference but i don't think anyone agrees with me on that one. then again, they did go out of their way to name a pokémon fucking "lechonk" which i'm still not over being one of the most annoying names they've ever created. so sorry lechonk fans but i swear toby fox had a hand in naming that one

[A video is attached. Two cloaked people, faces shrouded by their dark hoods, face off the group with their Toxicroak and Crobat, while the Hyruleans hold out a sword, a scimitar, and a trident respectively. Zelda, however, is clutching her forearm and breathing quickly.
"Do you want to test fate?" Urbosa snarls. Naboris and Blupee glare at the Toxicroak, who has blood splattered on one of its red claws and hand.
"Not particularly, no," one of the cloaked figures says in a bored voice. "We're just here for the blood and we'll get out of your business."
Link roars. "MADAS!"
Madas, Epona, and the Ralts twins charge forward at the opposing Pokemon, along with Urbosa's Pokemon at her command. At this, Mipha takes Zelda aside and gently removes Zelda's hand from its place to reveal a bloody gash on her sleeve.
"I will heal it," Mipha says, and a blue glow emanates from her own hand as she places it atop Zelda's wound. "This is an odd wound to treat, coming from that Pokemon... I think it used poison."
"Well, that's just great," Zelda grumbles. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have gone..."
"You hardly took three steps in that direction before we were ambushed, you are fine."
"Ah—" She looks away with a faint blush. An enraged outcry suddenly comes from the battle offscreen, and the camera turns to show that the two cloaked figures are gone and Koshia is screeching in fury. Link and Urbosa come over to Zelda and Mipha's spot with stormy expressions.
"Not the best day, hm. Are you alright, little bird?"
Mipha removes her hand to show that Zelda's wound has closed up without a trace, and Zelda nods.
"I'm sorry we couldn't get them. They teleported away quite fast— and I am very worried as to what they're planning."
"Let's just. Let's just get to the next town. It's right over there, anyway."
"Mm. Well, the important thing is that we are all okay— correct?"
Koshia hits his own chest with a firm nod. Fi snorts. But the rest of the Pokemon affirm, and Celebi flutters out of Zelda's hood to talk to them all about... something. Presumably the battle.
The video ends.]

I love a Pokemon AU so here are the teams for Xander and Laslow (plus a few others): Long and under the cut.
Xander- Xander's team leans towards 'darker' pokemon, Nohr has more dark/ghost/poison than any other type and so Xander has them too. His squad also has some of the most challenging pokemon to train, those who take a lot of time and effort but he puts in the work. He also has a friendship evolution because even though it isn't obvious at first glance, he adores his team and they love him back.
Aegislash- all heirs to the throne get a honedge as a child, Xander's Aegislash is named Siegfried and is a Nohrian variant of Aegislash,
Spectrier-Xander's mount, is an ass.
Hydreigon- He received Hydreigon as an egg and slowly raised up. It was A LOT of hard work but Xander is proud of Hydreigon.
Purrloin- not actually used in combat, is mostly just a little cat that hangs around him and gets cuddles,
Gyarados- the first pokemon he caught, people were pretty judgmental of him and his little karp but he believed in Magikarp. Eventually with a lot of hard work he became a Gyarados. He looks terrifying, knows how to act terrifying, but is actually a big baby who wants the cuddles too (and is particularly fond of Laslow because Laslow spoils him).
Crobat- Xander had a starter who fell with his retainers. He was not going to replace the starter but eventually a little Zubat started to hang around him and grew very fond of him. He eventually realized the same Zubat was following him around and became fond of her too.
Laslow- So I never realized this but a lot of the dancing pokemon fall within grass types and so Lalsow ended up with a lot of grass types (which makes him stick out as not Nohrian since grass types are uncommon in Nohr). Almost all of Laslow's pokemon are actually pretty good dancers, even the Gallade and Lopunny. Only Absol doesn't really dance.
Liligant (Hisuan)- elegant lady, Keeps the others in check from flirting too much, there are no Hisuan pokemon in Fates World so people are very baffled by her, especially Hoshidans who swear she is not a liligant.
Ludicolo- He vibing, with nothing going on in that brain, has the ability own tempo.
Gallade- As big a flirt as Laslow, just as bad as it, is actually really shy and that is part of how he met Laslow. Olivia gave him the same bad advice she gave Laslow. Laslow doesn't have a traditional starter because he decided ralts would be his started.
Lopunny (female)- Also a big flirt, actually successful at flirting but gets dragged away by Lilligant a lot. Was never shy, just a flirt.
Bellossom- She is a good nature pokemon, loves dancing and singing, is mostly vibing too .
Absol- Laslow caught him just before everything went wrong in Awakening, most of the children have an Absol. Absol is pretty chilled and quiet but enjoys watching the others dance. He is fond of Xander
Ryoma- Hoshido has more grass, fire, and fairy types and so his team is full of them. He has a more traditional relationship with his squad and keeps a little more distance between him and his pokemon. He has not friendship evolution.
Aegislash (Hoshido variant), Moltres, Kom-mo, Kingambit, Samurott (starter), plus he has a Growleth that he doesn't actually use in battle
Odin's team includes a Husian Samurott and Selena's include a Husian Decidueye both of these also cause a lot of confusion since people swear they aren't Samurott or a Decidueye.
Takumi's includes a regular Decidueye.
Leo's includes a Gengar and a Leavanny who is constantly trying to fix his clothes.

hi!!
so something very peculiar happened to me and my daughter… she had a nightmare and we slept together, and then we woke up pokemon??? i’m a gardevoir and she’s a ralts.
i’m guessing from your blog this isn’t very uncommon, seeing you guys already have a nickname for it. but “eeby deeby”? really??? you couldn’t think of a better- im getting off track nevermind
what do we do??? im freaking out over here!!! im already a single mom I can’t handle this!!! what do i do when I need to get my drivers license renewed??? can pokémon even get drivers licenses??? what will i tell my family???? what will i tell my friends???? what will my poor baby tell her friends???? WHAT WILL MY LANDLORD THINK????? I HAVENT EVEN SCRATCHED THE SURFACE OF NEW PROBLEMS!!!!
………..
im sorry if this is too much for you.
at least she’s still the cutest little girl ever…~
Hey, I'm SO sorry I wasn't able to get to this when you first sent it in; I'd make excuses but what matters is that it sounds like you're getting help now! At least, I believe this is @pragmaticinstant?
I'm gonna start by covering the catch-options my friend @fated-furret was confused about:
the Johto National Park has designed pokeball charms that effectively work like just having a pokeball, but the ball is attached to a charm you can wear, which is both cute and works as a fun indicator. You might be able to see if someone can convert whatever pokeballs you can find into cute charms, I just know the national park already has some set up,
The anti-catch patches only seem to exist in certain regions, but the idea is that there's an invisible patch you can put on a pokemon that may be too anxious about a pokeball or have special needs, but still registers them as already caught for the pokeball system, causing catch attempts to fail? I don't quite understand the specifics of that one either.
Again, just regular pokeballs also work, and it sounds like you have plans there.
We have a support group for this exact thing, both between all the "eebydeebies" as well as some greater reach into the Tacklr community. I think there's an invite thing you can set so the Pelipper Mail delivery system can reach you; people can send you things that way pretty easily! A few good sites for determining what food is and isn't safe, some actual food; @goldenrodchef is SUCH a good cook and I bet he'd be delighted to make at least a few meals for you when he can.
You'll have to test and find out if you can speak human; some of us can innately, I was able to get a friend to make an everstone with a translator built in, and some folks just forgo talking to humans.
Uh, we can try and get you the group-chat invite, though I can't promise it won't be chaotic and confusing,
And enough of us have had this happen that you have a precedent to work with when trying to tell people, but unfortunately I can't promise how they'll react.
I really hope that helps, and again, sorry for the delay on my response!

Pokemon Emerald Ralts Only Part 2: Roxanne and her Rock-hard Nosepass
So last we left off on...uh...the second mandatory fight in the entire game. So now we need to talk about what my plan is from here to beat Roxanne.
Part 1
Tumblr media
I'm going to be taking optional battles, and all of them that I can in between here and Roxanne. Ralts belongs in the Slow leveling group, which means that it is always going to be a few levels behind other Pokemon for the same amount of experience. Ralts also just isn't very good, and there's an additional factor to consider before we even get to Roxanne.
This gives us a pretty good way to use our Confusion PP. We haven't actually healed at a Pokemon Center yet, and if we can use all of our Confusion PP before a certain mandatory fight, we'll have actually performed a neat little optimization.
Tumblr media
Sadly though, we are helpless to prevent a small sickly child from falling to the same fate as us. He will forever be doomed to Struggle against Poochyena like we will be.
Tumblr media
As we fight the Wurmple trainer in Petalburg Woods, we have managed to perfectly sync up our Confusion uses. The last use of Confusion on the last Wurmple. We won't even need to take any wild encounters! This actually ended up working really well.
Tumblr media
That's right. There's a mandatory fight against another Poochyena we have to do. This one is Level 9, and so it knows an incredibly annoying move: Sand Attack. There isn't, I think, a single Pokemon player alive who hasn't dealt with the considerable frustration of having your Pokemon's accuracy lowered and the game deciding you are no longer allowed to play.
Tumblr media
This leads to a really, really frustrating reset here.
Reset Counter: 4
Let's discuss Struggle for a bit. In Generations II and Generation III, Struggle is typeless, 50 base power, and deals recoil damage equal to 1/4 of the damage dealt. Pokemon math works in an incredibly specific way, where you always drop the decimal on whatever calculation you're doing. So this means we can actually deal 1-7 damage with Struggle while only taking 1 damage in recoil. My guess is the Poochyena here either has 25 or 29 HP, because it seemed like a 4HKO up until it wasn't, and that we were doing 6 or 7 damage with our Struggle. It was a very, very winnable fight, but we lost somewhere around six turns due to Sand Attack. We were robbed.
Tumblr media
The next fight goes a lot better.
Getting to Rustboro City from here is pretty uneventful, but I do briefly want to talk about Route 104 for a different reason: our HM friends we're gonna pick up along the way. We can actually catch a Pokemon for every relevant HM we're going to need on this run (we need to go onto Route 102 for Zigzagoon, actually, but it's still very close to Petalburg City):
-Zigzagoon will be able to use Cut, Rock Smash, and Surf -Marill will be able to use Strength, Waterfall, and Dive -Either Taillow or Wingull will be able to use Fly
It's really convenient! The other benefit to this is that we'll have access to a Pickup user. I'm not going to be looking to abuse Pickup, because it's inherently very random, but I will take note of when Pickup gets us something good. Pickup is also notably weaker in Emerald than it is in Ruby or Sapphire, or even in Fire Red and Leaf Green.
Tumblr media
The only truly impactful item we can get here are Nuggets, and maybe the Full Heal or the Hyper Potion. I'll make sure to update this if Zigzagoon gets above Level 10 at any point.
Tumblr media
After getting to Rustboro City and beating up Roxanne's gym trainers, we're only Level 12, and that's the Slow leveling group in action baby. We've picked up Double Team by level up, but I don't think that beating Roxanne at this level is reasonable.
Tumblr media
The two Geodudes should probably be easy enough thanks to their very low Sp.Def stats, but the Nosepass is going to be a pretty serious problem. Nosepass is very bulky for this point in the game, and the Oran Berry along with Roxanne's two Potions means we'll have an additional 50 HP to burn through. It's not all bad news though. While Rock Tomb looks scary, Roxanne's AI treats it as a speed control move, and not a damage dealing move. This means she'll only use it if we're faster than her, and when we'll slower, she'll stop using it in favor of her other moves. It's also pretty inaccurate, only having an 80% chance to hit.
But Level 12 is just, an uncomfortable level. Ralts is pretty physically frail, so I head up to Route 116 and fight all of the available trainers here.
Tumblr media
This gets us to Level 14, which is still a little uncomfortable. Ideally I would much rather be Level 15, but getting to that level is going to require a non-trivial amount of grinding on wild Pokemon, and the wild Pokemon we're going to be fighting at this point are pretty low level. So let's give it a chance.
Tumblr media
Welp.
Reset Counter: 5
Okay jokes aside, I forgot to equip an Oran Berry for this fight, so let's make sure to try again with the Oran Berry.
Tumblr media
First things first: at this level we can potentially 2HKO the Geodude with Confusion. This is actually potentially a good thing for us and an argument for not going to Level 15. We'll miss the 2HKO by only about 1 or 2 HP, and Roxanne will use a Potion on her Geodude to restores its HP. If she does that, we still can KO the Geodude without any issues, and we've wasted a Potion that could have gone to Nosepass. Leveling up to Level 15 would mean through the slight increase in our Sp.Atk as well as the bonus damage we get by getting over a level threshold, we'd be 2HKOing the Geodude guaranteed.
It would also improve our damage versus the Nosepass, but it's a thought at least. This little exploit might allow us to not have to use any grinding.
Tumblr media
The other issue is that Rock Tomb hurts. 15 damage is nothing to sneeze at and we really don't want to be taking too many of these. Fortunately though, Geodude isn't guaranteed to use Rock Tomb and can use other moves like Defense Curl, so getting past these two without taking a ton of damage never proved difficult.
Tumblr media
With one Rock Tomb from the Geodude, Nosepass actually outspeeds us, which means we can immediately begin to abuse that AI quirk and she'll avoid Rock Tomb for most of the fight now. The problem here is that Confusion is doing pretty uninspiring damage. Tackle does 9 damage to use and I would guess it's more than we're doing back, so this isn't a damage race we can afford to fall behind on.
Fortunately, Nosepass is pretty likely to use Block and Harden and waste a turn doing so, but even with an Oran Berry, this fight doesn't look super doable.
Tumblr media
Reset Counter: 6
We're able to get through the Nosepass' Oran Berry and the last of Roxanne's Potions, but Nosepass will actually decide to use Rock Tomb if it sees that it can score a KO with it. This is pretty bad since Rock Tomb has essentially double the base power of Tackle, and will do way more damage. It makes our margins for victory a lot more narrow. So that's it right? This is where I tell you I leveled up to Level 15, tried the fight again, and then realized I needed further grinding?
Not quite.
These fights were done by only using Confusion, in order to maximize our DPS. I don't really want to be using Growl, because setting up Growl takes time and will only really benefit us for one Pokemon. But there's one move I haven't really mentioned, which is Double Team.
I'll be honest here, I think Double Team is actually just straight-up a not very good move. It's giving your opponent free turns to hit you or set themselves up while you use a move that might potentially let you not take damage. Compared to an offensive set-up move like Swords Dance, or a defensive set-up move like Amnesia, you have no guaranteed returns and it's not guaranteed to make any match-up safer. A lot of people also take the full six turns setting up Double Team, which just gives your opponent a tremendous amount of time to throw hits at you. If you're in a fight where you need Evasion to have a reasonable chance of surviving, it's probably not a fight that you can realistically win.
But this fight is...close enough that I was willing to experiment. There's two reasons for this: the first is that is our damage goes in a similar way, we actually only need about three more turns of time in order to win. It's a lot to ask normally, since we'd be asking for 3 turns of our opponent deciding to use Harden, but the margin we're looking for isn't big. The second is that Rock Tomb is already inaccurate. It can already miss, and remember what I said about Roxanne's AI uses it? It uses it in order to lower our speed. We can potentially get Roxanne stuck using an already inaccurate move into our heightened evasion.
Since we only need a few turns, I decide to try the fight again, at Level 14, but with one change. We use a single use of Double Team at the beginning of the fight, and see how much breathing room that gives us.
Tumblr media
Welcome to the Lamia Institute of Ethical and Reasonable Strategic Use of Double Team.
I don't actually know how lucky this fight was, it's ultimately a little difficult to know for a certain without having the ability to simulate the fight over and over again. But we weren't looking for the perfect fight anyways. We were looking for the good enough fight, and this one looks good enough to me.
Next time! More Poochyena! Brawly! Freedom from the cycle of reincarnation?
