4 Creative Ways to Design Fictional Plants for Your Fantasy World

Hello everyone! If you want to add some unique flora to your world-building, this article is for you. In this post, I'll go through some ways you can find the inspiration to create fictional plants. Here are some ways to get creative:

Draw ideas from real-life plants: Find unique features of the plants around you that you can adapt to create an entirely new plant. For example, you could make an orchard full of fruit trees that project sharp needles from the hanging fruit when touched.

Think outside the box: Consider what the creatures in your world need. Figure out how their unique needs could be met by the plants. What kind of food do they eat? What is poisonous to them? Where do they nest? 

Tie in significance and mythological elements: Take ideas from folklore. Give your plants deeper meaning to the people that inhabit your world. What mystical properties do your plants have? Are they used in a ritual?

Consider the environment: When making a new type of plant, consider the climate and geography of its growing area. Plants that grow in dry areas look and function differently from those that thrive in wetlands. 

Get creative with your fictional plants. Consider purpose. Mix, match, and invent! Happy world-building!

The last gleam of fading summer. I made the chiton dress from the leftovers of another project. Who remembers the blue fabric I tried to bleach this summer? Well, this is the result and I love the new colour so much! Due to me using different brands of bleach it did not came out even, resulting in a subtle but lovely gradient. while usually all my jewelry ist silver, I found the gold stampings to be a lovely accent on the soft rose colour. I am still doing the hems, which takes time because being me I do them by hand, but I took the opportunity to take some pictures with the belt (that will soon go to the etsy shop) while it still has warmer days. This photo has two pieces that I inherited from familiy members: my Grandmother's Amber necklace that I wear in my hair and the gothic harp from my great aunt and harp teacher. I miss both these grand old ladies a lot, and I am glad to have these little mememtos in my life. I was thinking of what if Melony and Allister could be with Glastrier and Spectrier because Melony and Glastrier are Ice Types, And Allister and Spectrier are Ghost Types. So I went ahead drawing them in a fantasy style. Hey, guys. Real talk. Sometimes it’s really hard to be brave. As a society, we’re conditioned to move as quickly as possible through life. We’re told not to feel, and not to spend too much time on a single thing. I’m here to tell you that society sucks, and that you have permission to take your time, and to feel. Take time to pick up each piece of your broken heart. Hold it, understand it, and just feel. Experience what it’s like to have your entire world come crashing down, and take your time in the rebuilding process. Understanding emotions and living in the moment keeps us humble. Breakups suck, heartbreak sucks. Losing someone you love more than anything in this world will suck. You won’t understand the “why” behind the situation, and you’ll have so many questions and you’ll wonder just why you were never good enough for them, even though you sacrificed and gave so much to them. But remember, it’s okay to not know. Everything happens for a reason. But here’s the sliver of light in the darkness... the hope for you to hold on to: you can only climb upwards from this point going forward. Fix your crown, straighten your dress, and rise. Crawl out of the hell that holds you down, but do it with the strength and grace of an absolute Queen. You’ve got this, babe.
