prompt: teen danbert, herbert attending one of dan's baseball games, maybe celebrating a win for his team
It was a hard game to balance for Dan. On one hand, he was poised and ready, the solid wood of the bat gripped in his hands. He squinted against the glaring sun streaming directly into his eyes at the shape of the pitcher, equally poised, before him. Dan kept his eyes trained on the ball gripped in the Fansville player's hand, knowing that if he lost focus even for a second the guy would pelt a fast ball right by his ear.
However, Dan was finding it hard to focus because, on the other hand, he knew Herbert was in the crowd.
For a while Dan had been casually dropping it into conversation that he was sure Herbert would enjoy Baseball if he ever actually sat down and watched a game. He said how all the other guys' girlfriends had been lukewarm to the sport too, but still found the will to sit in the bleachers and cheer. He tried to keep his tone nonchalant as he said it, but keenly watched for Herbert's reaction out of the corner of his eye.
"Sounds tedious," was all Herbert had said around a mouthful of celery as he read his book.
The words deflated Dan and by the sharp look Herbert turned on him it must've shown.
"It's really not," Dan mumbled, crossing his arms and feeling suddenly self-conscious.
Herbert snapped his book shut and narrowed his eyes at Dan. "You're doing that thing again."
Dan sat up straighter, mind racing. "What thing?"
"That thing where you want me to do something without just coming out and telling me," Herbert huffed. "It's really annoying. Some might even say vexing."
"Vexing," Dan echoed, trying in vain to fight back a smile. He couldn't help that Herbert's particular brand of talking always had him grinning. "Well, we can't have you getting vexed."
Herbert pursed his lips and raised an eyebrow. "We're halfway there, so why don't you just tell me what you want?"
"Fine," Dan said with a sigh. "I want you to come to one of my games."
Herbert blinked, looking genuinely perplexed. "Why?"
"Because," Dan said with an incredulous laugh, "I want you to watch me. It'd just be nice, knowing you're there. Having an audience always makes you try harder at something."
"You'll already have an audience," Herbert reasoned. "Aren't there always crowds at those games?"
Dan rolled his eyes and shuffled over until their knees touched. He reached for Herbert's hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "Yeah, but I'm saying I want you there, not just random people from school and their families. I wanna be able to look over to the crowd and see you."
"As if you don't see me enough," Herbert grumbled. He glanced away but his cheeks were dusted with pink.
Dan grinned and threw an arm around Herbert. He drew him close until their cheeks were squished together, and Herbert was weakly pushing at him but Dan didn't budge.
"I could never see enough of you," Dan said in a simpering voice, then pressed a long, loud kiss to Herbert's cheek.
So, Herbert had come, and it was taking everything for Dan to concentrate on the pitcher in front of him. The pitcher reared his arm back and Dan gripped the bat tighter, digging his feet into the dirt. The ball came hard at Dan, soaring straight for the mitt behind him. Dan's arms tensed and then he was swinging, connecting with the ball with a crack like a clap of thunder. The ball soared across the pitch, Fansville players racing to catch it as Dan ran.
He pelted from the home plate, his heels kicking up clouds of dirt as he flew past first base. He could hear the roar of the crowd over the blood pounding in his ears, the cheers surging him on, making him pump his legs faster. He rounded second base, keeping his ears open for the voices of his teammates and the opposition. The ball was out on the grass somewhere, making its way from the glove of an opponent, back to home, and Dan had to beat it.
The toe of his shoe hit third base and he briefly pondered if he should go for it and try for a home run, but he hesitated. He knew his hit had been good, but he wasn't sure if it had been that good. But still, he was tempted. Tempted to put on a show and do something dazzling while Herbert was watching. It might have been childish, but he wanted to impress him.
It was the thought of Herbert however, that made him stop and stay at third base. If he didn't make it, Herbert would roll his eyes and make some comment about Dan being over-eager or something. A moment later, the ball flew past him, and would've definitely hit the home plate before him, had he chosen to keep running. He breathed a sigh of relief and looked to the crowd.
Herbert stared back at him, shoulders bunched up around his ears as he sat, squished between two people cheering loudly. Herbert squirmed in his seat, aiming a dirty look at either side of him at the two jostling figures, but then he was staring back at Dan. He held his hand up, lifting the foam finger Dan had given him and bouncing it slightly. Dan laughed at this display of 'enthusiasm', but grinned happily anyway.
He wanted desperately to jog over to the bleachers, lean over the rail, and kiss Herbert the same way all the other guys kissed their girlfriends at the end of the game. But he couldn't exactly do that, so instead he settled on blowing him a kiss. Herbert rolled his eyes but held up his free hand and mimed catching it.
Dan couldn't wait to see him after the game, even if they couldn't kiss over the fence.

of everything weird about riverdale, IMO the oddest is that it was seemingly the inspiration for the dr pepper “fansville” ad campaign, which airs during college football games and has very little overlap with people who watch the cw on purpose

What Are the 23 Flavors in Dr Pepper?
If you love Dr Pepper, then you have likely heard of the unique soda's 23 flavors. But what makes these flavors so special?
It's a deliciously complex carbonated drink that has been delighting taste buds for 135 years. Invented by pharmacist Charles Alderton in 1885, it was named after his favorite doctor.
What Are the 23 Flavors in Dr Pepper?
1. Cherry
Cherry is a fruity flavor that adds an extra layer of sweetness to the beverage. It’s a delicious addition to your diet and a great way to satisfy sweet cravings.
It’s also a popular ingredient in cakes and marinades. Try adding a bit of Dr Pepper to your next recipe for an unexpected twist!
Dr Pepper is made with a blend of 23 unique flavors that come together to create its classic taste. Some of these include cherry, licorice, amaretto (almond-flavored liqueur), blackberry, caramel, cola and more.
2. Vanilla
Dr Pepper is a sweet and refreshing soda that has been satisfying thirsts since the late 1800s. Its unique blend of carbonated water, sweetener (like sugar or high fructose corn syrup), caramel color, phosphoric acid for tanginess and natural & artificial flavors along with preservative sodium benzonate makes it the perfect choice for a satisfying refreshment.
The taste of vanilla in dr pepper can be very reminiscent of strawberry, marshmallow and cotton candy. It is considered a classic cream soda flavor and has been praised by many people.
It can be served on its own, mixed with your favorite spirits or flavors for a creative cocktail or paired with ice cream for a sweet twist on the classic float. However you choose to enjoy dr pepper, you'll be sure to have a good time! This popular soft drink is available in more than 170 countries and territories.
3. Caramel
Caramel is a popular flavor in dr pepper because it adds a sweet, buttery flavor that gives the soda a unique taste. You might also notice a hint of vanilla in this flavor as well, which helps bring out the sweetness and depth of the drink.
Dr Pepper fans have a chance to try this new flavor soon! It will be part of the company's Fansville Reserve collection.
However, a recent petition by the Center for Science in the Public Interest to ban the use of caramel coloring has put the ingredient under intense scrutiny. CSPI said that the coloring contains 4-methylimidazole, a chemical known to cause cancer.
4. Ginger
The flavor of ginger in dr pepper is an inviting blend of sweet and spicy flavors. It’s a classic combination that gives the drink an unforgettable taste.
The story behind the creation of Dr Pepper goes back to 1885 when a Brooklyn-born pharmacist named Charles Alderton began experimenting with a new soda in his Waco, Texas drug store. He noticed that patrons enjoyed the sweet smell of the fountain and decided to create a new soft drink.
The soda has a unique blend of 23 flavors that give it a one-of-a-kind taste. The flavor profile includes sweet notes of cherry, licorice, amaretto and caramel as well as spicy notes of ginger and peppermint.
5. Amaretto
Amaretto is a sweet almond liqueur that can be used in a variety of drinks. It can also be used in desserts and savory dishes.
Amaretto can be found in many different stores and is usually made with distilled alcohol. This means that it should be gluten-free as long as the base is not made with wheat or rye.
This liqueur can be served straight or mixed with other spirits. It can also be poured over ice for a refreshing drink that is sure to please.
The drink has a unique flavor that is enjoyed by people all over the world. It contains no high fructose corn syrup and is made with natural cane sugar. This makes it a great option for those who want to stay healthy.
6. Blackberry
Dr Pepper Dark Berry is a new twist on the classic soda. It starts with the OG Dr Pepper flavor that fans know and love, but adds darker fruit flavors like black currant, blackberry and black cherry.
This new beverage is available nationwide in 12-packs of 12-oz cans for $5.29 or 20-oz bottles for $1.99. The flavor is also available in a zero-sugar variant.
When I tried this soda, I immediately noticed the berry flavor. But the aftertaste reminded me of a blue ice pop.
If you’re looking for a new drink to try this summer, give this one a try. It’s a unique blend of 23 flavors that come together to create a one-of-a-kind taste.
7. Almond
Dr Pepper is a soft drink that has been around for over 135 years. It is one of the most famous sodas in the world, and it has a unique flavor that sets it apart from other brands on the market.
It was invented in 1885 by pharmacist Charles Alderton. He was experimenting with different fruit flavors in his pharmacy, and he created the flavor we know today.
He wanted to recreate the smell of his pharmacy, and he came up with the taste of Dr Pepper as a result. The drink is made up of 23 different flavors, including cola, cherry, licorice, amaretto (almond), vanilla, blackberry, apricot, caramel, pepper, anise, sarsaparilla, ginger, molasses, lemon, plum, orange, nutmeg, cardamon, all spice, coriander juniper and birch.
Dr Pepper is a delicious and refreshing soft drink that can help you maintain a healthy weight. It has less sugar and caffeine than Coke, and it is also low in calories.
8. Black Licorice
Dr Pepper is a unique carbonated soda that features 23 flavors. First made in 1885 in Waco, Texas, it is one of the oldest major soft drinks brands in the United States.
The original formula was created by a pharmacist named Charles Alderton at Morrison’s Old Corner Drug Store in Waco, Texas. He was inspired by the smell of his pharmacy, and he wanted to replicate it with a carbonated beverage.
Many people believe that the flavor of dr pepper is made up of amaretto, almond, carrot, clove, cherry, caramel, blackberry, black licorice, cola, ginger, juniper, lemon, molasses, nutmeg, orange, pepper, plum, prune, raspberry, root beer, rum and vanilla.
In addition to its signature flavor, dr pepper has been used in a variety of different recipes throughout history. You can mix dr pepper with ice cream for a refreshing milkshake or simmer it along with spices to create a unique glaze for meats or vegetables.
9. Carrot
Carrots are a super food that's packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. Each serving of carrots offers more than half the recommended daily vitamin A requirement, as well as potassium and folate.
A carrot is also a low-calorie, high-fiber food that can help you feel full so you won't overeat, reducing your calorie intake and supporting weight loss. They also help control blood sugar, making them a great choice for people with diabetes.
The flavors of carrots vary widely at a molecular level and are largely due to the volatile compounds called terpenoid-based flavor compounds. Variations in the fraction of these terpenoid-based flavors are what give different carrot cultivars their unique aromas and tastes.
10. Clove
Dr Pepper is one of the most famous and iconic sodas in the world, and it has a unique flavor that sets it apart from the competition. It contains 23 flavors that come together to create a complex and unique taste that you’ll never find in any other soda.
A staple in the beverage industry, Dr Pepper has been around since 1885. It’s one of the oldest and most popular brands in America, and its recognizable logo and campaigns make it easy to spot in stores across the country.
The drink was invented in 1885 by pharmacist Charles Alderton who formulated it while working at a drug store in Waco, Texas. He was inspired by the smell of a particular soda fountain and decided to recreate the same taste in a drink

“She has an onion volcano” & “Tastes the same to me” were referring to grilling and nothing else. Absolutely no innuendo going on here.

🤗🌹 #TanaArolaEscritor #villevalo #hertagram #vv #lovemetal #gothicafennicavol1 #gothicafennicavol1 #musica #music #estreno #premiere #ville #villevalofans #escritor #writer #escritora #writer #fan #fansville #SaluteTheSanguine #RunAwayFromTheSun #SaturnineSaturnalia #single #newsingle #him #gothic #gothicmetal https://www.instagram.com/p/CcE-cztt1gy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Mansplaining is when a published author considered the foremost expert on a topic is told to go back and look at her own research by someone who isn't even in the field, because she changed her name and academic publications are almost almost known only by the last name. (I also saw one where the woman didn't even change her name, the person arguing with her just didn't even notice that the person he told her to cite..... had the... same last name... as her.)
If neither or even both of them are experts in the same field, it's not mansplaining, it's just Twitter being Twitter.
i will never forgive the internet for what it did to the word “mansplain”
#I do like the current Fansville commercial where a couple is on a date and the guy is explaining football rules to the girl#and she accuses him of fansplaining#which is a really good gender neutral term for when someone assumes the other person is ignorant of a given topic with no evidence

The Death of Fun
What is dead may never die. Last night was the final episode of the world’s only college football podcast, the Shutdown Fullcast, a casualty in cuts to the Vox media company that may be directly related to the Covid-19 shutdown or maybe not, it’s not important.
I came to the Fullcast late in its life, I am fairly certain it was the two thousand sixteen 40 for 40 bowl series, a bit they did where they reviewed every bowl game as a stand-alone episode of varying lengths. I was already a fan of all the hosts and I’m not sure what took me so long to get on board but when I did, it was a revelation. It was like finding a new group of friends that instantly felt I had known them for 100 years.
Let me rewind even further. I grew up in New York and despite what you may have heard, is not a Rutgers town. It’s not an anything town when it comes to college football. You have a smattering of the national fan bases here and there but college football was not something I talked about with my friends even though all we talked about was sports. I even went to a college that didn’t have a football team. It would have been easy for me to lose all connection to the sport but I didn’t. Holly, Ryan, Jason and Spencer are the reason I didn’t. Their brand of humor felt familiar to me and their dismissive attitude at what other media took so dam seriously was a revelation. Who cares who should win the Heisman? It’s more fun to talk about the weird and spectacular and have fun with all this. This is not to say they weren’t well versed in the history and nostalgia of the sport, to the contrary, I learned more about the history of college football from this show than I did from anywhere else in life.
I’ve gone this far and if you didn’t listen to the Shutdown Fullcast you might still be wondering what it is. It’s ostensibly a college football podcast, the world’s only college football podcast as they were fond of saying. However it was about college football in the same way the Goodfellas was about union rights. The best episodes didn’t so much go off the beaten trail as they started in the middle of the woods. Kitchen disasters, holiday disasters, animal disasters, it was the internet’s number one source for uncles doing something stupid for the rest of us to laugh at. My personal favorite was comparing bible stories to college football things, an entire episode that could only exist because Jason Kirk is equally knowledgeable about Christianity and football.
This podcast wasn’t for everyone. I recommended it to numerous friends and family and they liked it enough if they listened at all but never became permanent listeners (or readers as Spencer accidently calls them). My wife begrudgingly would listen during long car rides, both confused by the super niche college football jokes and frustrated by the audio quality that would lead to Spencer being too loud and Holly being too low despite them recording from the same place. Maybe they knew this was the case because last season they opened up a slack for fans of the show to come and make jokes and share pictures of animals, food or kids. I normally watch college football alone and the Fullcast community kept me company while I bounced from game to game, cracking jokes and sharing pics of my dog or my drink. I spent more time than I’d like to admit in that slack talking with people I will never meet, trying to get them to laugh. For a few weeks there was an entire thread devoted to the Dr. Pepper Fansville extended universe.
Nothing may exemplify the insane world of Fullcast lore than the extended Fansville Universe. If you watched any college football, you were beat over the head ad nausea by the Dr. Pepper Fansville commercials. Somehow one Saturday in the slack that led to a discussion about what else was in this crazy fictional town? Who was the mayor? What were the neighboring towns like? What were their social-economic policies? More than anything that sums up what Ryan, Holly, Spencer and Jason created; a group of people bonding over their shared love of college football, but also an offbeat sense of humor and overactive imagination that would lead one to believe we need to flesh out the extended universe of an overplayed cola commercial.
There is another wide to the Fullcast and its people, a heart to go with the extreme silliness, the EDSBS Charity drive. Borne out of the old Everyday Should be Saturday website is a fundraiser for New Pathways, a group that helps immigrants assimilate to America, find jobs and provides them with basic esentials. Every year the total contribution increase. This last year raised over $183,000 for immigrants. Get your cheap jokes off about people from the south but realize there is no greater showing of the American spirit than this. The fact that donations are encouraged in amounts to taunt your rival school is just icing on the cake. (For instance Auburn fans including an extra .1 on every donation to symbolize the extra second that led to the kick 6.)
The last episode dropped last night and it is still sitting in my feed. I don’t have the heart to open it because once i do and i consume those last 90 minutes or so, it is over. I don’t have the emotional wherewithal to take that on yet. I always assumed one day somebody would share the Fullcast with the world, with an in-depth feature trying to explain the beautiful chaos that is the Shutdown Fullcast. Something akin to what Mike Schur did with the Lebatard Show that one time when he stopped writing amazing sitcoms and just wrote a full length feature about a radio show. I kind of always hoped the universe would shift on its axis and I would be the one to do it. I guess this blog post that nobody will read will have to suffice.
The last five weeks or so have been difficult for everyone. I think the most common theme I’ve heard during this pandemic is a yearning to return to “normal.” The desire to go back to our lives the way they were. The weekly Fullcast episodes were the closest I’ve felt to feeling normal the last few weeks. It’s been the only podcast I’ve listened to religiously, a spot of joy in an otherwise pretty dark time. It is possible that we get out the other side of this and it comes back, Spencer and Jason’s furloughs end and Banner Society picks up right where they left off, even better if we get a college football season to go with it. However I have lived enough life to know not to count on that. I hope I am wrong but hope is not a plan. Instead I will be happy for what I got, years and years of a one way friendship that made me love college football more than I did when I started. And then about 25 snakes came out…..
