A fourth person has been arrested in connection to the escape of two prisoners from a Philadelphia correctional center, according to police.
An arrest warrant was issued for Michael Abrams, 21, of Philadelphia. Abrams was arrested by the U.S. Marshals at the Fairfield Inn in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, Monday afternoon. He is charged with criminal conspiracy, hindering apprehension, escape and use of a communication facility.
Abrams is an associate of 18-year-old Ameen Hurst, a source told NBC10.
Hurst and Nasir Grant, 24, both escaped from the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center on May 7, police said. Both men cut a hole in a fence surrounding a recreation yard, according to investigators. Hurst and Grant, who were in the same unit but in different cells, were gone for nearly 19 hours before officials knew they were missing.
Grant, incarcerated on drug and weapons counts, was captured Thursday night after a task force staked out a north Philadelphia address where they believed he was staying. Authorities said he was wearing women’s Muslim clothing including a head covering that obscured his face. He's now facing escape and conspiracy charges and is being held on $10 million bail.
The U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force is now focused on tracking down Hurst, who is charged in four homicides, including the deadly shooting of Rodney Hargrove outside the same facility he escaped from back in March of 2021.
Hurst is described as a Black male standing 6-feet and weighing around 140 pounds.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Marshals Service offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to each person’s arrest. Philadelphia Police also set up a reward for $20,000 for information leading to an arrest.
If you have any information on Hurst's whereabouts, please call Philadelphia Police at 215-686-TIPS or 911. You can also contact the U.S. Marshals Service at 1-800-336-0102.
On Friday police announced the arrest of 35-year-old Jose Flores-Huerta after he allegedly helped Hurst and Grant escape.
Flores-Huerta is one of several people charged in the September 2021 death of a New York City man outside Pat's King of Steaks. Authorities said 28-year-old Isidro Cortez of Queens was beaten with a trash can lid and pummeled, and that two other people, including his father, were injured before the suspects fled in a SUV. At a preliminary hearing last year, his lawyer contended that two other suspects who haven't been caught were primarily responsible.
Court documents indicate that Flores-Huerta is being represented by the Defender Association of Philadelphia in the escape case; messages seeking comment were sent Saturday to the association and to his attorney in the earlier case.
A woman accused of helping the escapees is also facing escape and conspiracy charges as well as hindering apprehension and criminal use of a communications facility. Xianni Stalling, 21, is accused of putting Hurst in touch with a potential getaway driver during recorded phone calls he made from jail hours before the escape. She's being held on $500,000 bail; the public defender’s office has declined comment.

Justice for Nohema Graber After 2 Iowa Teenagers Murdered a Beloved Spanish Teacher to Death Over Bad Grades
By Luis Canseco-Lopez, George Mason University Class of 2024
July 12, 2023
On July 6, 2023, a judge sentenced 1 of the 2 teenagers in the murder of Nohema Graber to life with a possibility of parole after 35 years in prison. [1] Nohema Graber was a sixty-six-year-old Spanish teacher at Fairfield High School. On Nov 3, 2021, she had recently finished her afternoon Spanish class when a then sixteen-year-old, Willard Mille, discussed his poor grade in class. Mrs. Graber discussed with Miller according to witnesses. After the meeting concluded, Mrs. Graber left Fairfield High School to go for her usual afternoon walk at Fairfield's Chautauqua Park. Unfortunately, Mrs. Graber meeting with Willard would be her last. [1]
That same day, Miller and Jeremy Goodale, a friend of his, initiated their plan to execute Mrs. Graber. For the past two weeks, both teenagers gathered supplies, researched how to conceal a crime, and shared their anger against Mrs. Graber for failing them. Both Miller and Goodale arrived at Chautauqua Park and ambushed Mrs. Graber. [2] According to investigators, Mrs. Graber was beaten to death with a baseball bat. Mrs. Graber suffered a severe head wound, and the crime scene was “graphic and violent,” according to court documents. After the two teens tried to cover up their crime scene, they stole Mrs. Graber's van and abandoned it on a rural road. One witness claimed to witness the two teens steal the van of Mrs. Gaber and another picked up the pair on the same rural road. [2]
Later that day, classmates of Miller and Goodale were detained by police officers after Snapchat messages between Goodale and classmates were given to police. Goodale proudly boasted that he and Miller killed Mrs. Graber and went into further, gruesome detail about their killing. [3] A police officer discovered the scene of the crime. Mrs. Graber’s body was under a tarp with a wheelbarrow and train tie on top of it. Only parts of her arms and legs were sticking out. Trent Vileta, a special agent with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, shared pictures and videos of the crime scene during his testimony in court. [2] Agent Vileta testified the teens have different accounts of the murder. Miller and Goodale started to be on the lookout for the murder while the other did the killing.
Initially, Miller denied Mrs. Gaber’s murder but changed his story that "a roving gang of masked kids" had forced him to help conceal Graber's body and drive her van away from the scene. [2] Then, Miller’s attorney admitted he participated in the killing but did not deal the fatal blow to Mrs. Gaber. Both Miller and Goodale, after consulting their attorneys, pleaded guilty to the murder of Mrs. Gaber
Initially, prosecutors tried to push for life without parole. However, Iowa’s state law states because of their age, they were not subject to a mandatory sentence of life without parole for first-degree murder. [1] Instead, as stated earlier, Miller would be sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 35 years. Meanwhile, Goodale’s sentencing hearing will be set for August 5, 2023. Prosecutors said they would recommend a sentence between 25 years and life with the possibility of parole. [4]
Although both Miller and Goodale will be locked away, the small Fairfield community will forever be haunted. Julie Kinsella, a Fairfield police officer, testified Thursday about the impact on the community. "We had students that were scared to death to attend class, we had teachers that didn't want to teach for concerns of their safety." [2] In addition to the tragedy, Mrs. Graber's ex-husband, Paul, died a few days before Miller’s sentencing. Paul died from cancer, which could have been prevented sooner if Graber was still alive.

A Felony is a crime that is punishable with death, by imprisonment in the state prison, or notwithstanding any other provision of law. While a crime may be charged as a felony originally, a judge or prosecutor can by choice reduce the charge to a misdemeanor. The Felony conviction can result in denial of employment opportunities, arson or sex registration for life, denial of one’s right to own, denial of the right to vote, and many other negative repercussions.

Defending Your Rights in a Criminal Lawsuit-Why You Should Ensure You Move with a Lawyer
This post takes a look at some of the reasons why it would be so important that you have a lawyer for a criminal case.
Generally speaking, defendants in a criminal case are best served when they have a lawyer representing them. As a matter of fact, most criminal defendants often find representation from a lawyer for their cases more so where there is an imminent probability of a jail term or prison time. You may be as smart as you may think but when it comes to criminal cases and charges against you, you need to appreciate the fact that fully handling your case on your own for it is going to prove such an uphill task. More on lawyers in vallejo ca
Generally speaking, self representation gets even murkier as you consider the fact of the disparity there is between what you may come across in paper and the actual practice of criminal cases. Read on and see some of the things that an attorney can do for you.
Just as we have already mentioned above, no matter how smart you may be and educated you may be, it may not be as easy representing yourself looking at the complex nature of the criminal justice system. Note the fact that each criminal case is different and unique by its own standards. Looking at all these, what we see is the fact that when it comes to such cases, it will be only wise of you to consider having a specialist who has as much experience in handling these kinds of cases and can as well handle the many variables that they come with for the sake of getting you as a defendant the justice that you deserve going forward.
The role that the criminal defense lawyers play is quite integral and do not just involve the questioning of witnesses. These are such as the cases where your lawyer may negotiate with the prosecutors and settle for lesser sentences and charges in the event that the case may end in a conviction or the defendant being found culpable for the crime. This may not be possible, such a negotiation with the prosecutor, for those who choose to represent themselves in the criminal case as the prosecutors may never be as cooperative as you may think. Added to this, the criminal defense attorney will formulate a sentencing program that will suit your interests as a defendant a step that ensures that you avoid any future issues with the criminal justice system. Still, it makes sense working with a criminal defense attorney for the fact of their knowledge of the local court traditions and processes that may not be known to the ordinary person.

Two Iowa teenagers murdered their 66-year-old Spanish teacher with a baseball bat, police allege, in new court documents released on Tuesday.
Jeremy Goodale and Willard Miller, both 16, are accused of killing Nohema Graber, 66, a woman who taught them Spanish at Fairfield High School in Fairfield, Iowa, about 95 miles southwest of Des Moines.
Both have been charged as adults with first-degree murder.
Graber’s body was found hidden under a tarp, a wheelbarrow and railroad ties in a local park last November a day after she was reported missing.
Goodale also wrote Snapchat messages describing how he and Miller surveilled Graber, following her and killing her with a bat, where they hid her body and how they disposed of evidence, the newly released documents allege.
The documents were unsealed by a judge this week.
Someone who knew Goodale shared the Snapchat massages that showed the boys "were involved in the planning, execution, and disposal of evidence" in her murder, the documents allege.
In an interview, Miller told Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation agents that he provided the wheelbarrow from his home, according to the documents.
Graber entered the park after school on Nov. 2 and left her car in the parking lot, surveillance video showed, according to the court documents. The car then left the parking lot around 42 minutes later and was followed by a truck. Her body was found in the park on Nov. 3.
A judge this week denied the suspects’ defense attorneys’ request that a hearing on whether they will be tried in adult court be kept private, not allowing the media or the public in the courtroom. The judge said the defense failed to show how allowing the public at the hearing would be unfair to their clients.

Depending on the specific allegations, bail/bond may be required to secure release while awaiting trial. If you have been arrested, call our Solano County criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible.
What is a Preliminary Hearing?
A preliminary hearing often occurs shortly after an arrest is made and charges are filed. During this stage of the process, the prosecution must show that it has enough evidence to proceed with the case. A skilled Solano County defense lawyer may be able to get charges dismissed or reduced at a preliminary hearing due to lack of evidence.
