#Facial Recognition DNA Test

I have so many thoughts on the United Healthcare thing.
As you know, I'm studying criminal justice and forensics. So hands down the most concerning thing is that they left things at the scene (water bottle especially...did they just panic? did they forget?). I see a lot of people talking about the pictures, but a moment on a low resolution security camera at that angle is not good enough for facial recognition at all, so if no one says they recognize them, or too many people do (I can think of easily 20-30 people who look similar enough to that) the pictures are not a big deal at all. But people underestimate how sensitive DNA testing is these days because of its (relatively) infrequent use. There is a backlog, and it's still somewhat expensive. So you can get away with minor crimes leaving DNA everywhere, but if it's a more serious case and it gets prioritized, there's a very high chance they'll find usable DNA. In this case, I'd say it's certain they will. I assume they knew that in theory, and it was simply a mistake. Along with this, though, you need known DNA to compare the unknown DNA to. So, as long as they can't narrow it down enough to suspect him and get a warrant to collect known DNA to compare to the DNA found at the scene (or if his DNA is already in a database-still would need to narrow it down), it doesn't hurt him. My worry is that people say they've seen someone who looks like him / they know him and then they'll have a suspect pool to check whether any of those people have left home (didn't show up to work, live alone and no one would've noticed, etc.). From there, gathering known DNA samples.
His initial plan, if it happened as law enforcement currently suspects, was a solid one. Bus was a good way to get there, the fake ID and burner phone, and keeping the hood and mask up (almost) the whole time. As was waiting for him to come out of the hotel and the route he used to escape (and likely change clothes in central park). It's simple but leaves few gaps. It makes it nearly impossible to ID him, in theory. In practice, the execution wasn't perfect, but that's to be expected due to the stress of the situation.
Major news sources have been talking about how law enforcement is trying to profile him based on everything. The most effective outcome that's likely to have is if it scares him into making a mistake.
Basically, unless he gets himself caught or is seen and it's called in and police can investigate it in time, he actually has good odds of getting away with it.
Ethically, I think this adds to a wonderful precedent and other people thinking of doing something like that should, if they decide to, mask up, and do not leave anything at the scene.
Also, there is a tip line, and police are already getting overwhelmed by the number of tips they're getting.
https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/12/06/nyregion/unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompson#hundreds-of-tips-are-coming-in-the-police-say-they-want-more
It's very, very easy to call in a tip. Even if you might be mistaken, it could be useful.

hi! i was wondering your opinions on how hrt affects the body? i hold a lot of radfem beliefs but i am trans (taking testosterone). would being a woman to you have to be completely about chromosomes? for example, trans men years on T do not have the same genetic makeup as cis women. same with trans women on E, their genetic makeup would be very different to cis men, and would more correlate to cis women. does this factor in who you consider female/male or having experience as women?
Hi there, thanks for reaching out.
Firstly, I think you may be a bit confused. Taking exogenous hormones does not affect your genetic makeup. Your dna will stay the same unless you're exposed to something extreme like radiation - this is a good thing because dna mutation is bad for you and causes cancer! Your genetic sex is immutable, a person with XY chromosomes cannot have their dna altered to have XX chromosomes instead.
Hormones will affect the expression of your genes, for example turning on facial hair production in women who are taking testosterone. This is why those patterns of facial hair, even in women, differ from person to person. The genes for it were already there, but hormone replacement therapy uses the endocrine system to change what signals get sent to your genes to tell them what features to express.
Beyond chemically induced genetic expression, there are particular physical features in males that do not occur in males, and vice versa. This is a feature of the /ancient/ evolution of sexual reproduction. Despite the variety of metaphysical beliefs about identity and personhood, the truth is that humans evolved to reproduce between two sexes, and human beings cannot change sex. Every cell of your body has your sex encoded within it. This affects us physically in many ways. I and most feminists believe that this fact should be irrelevant to any person's ability to pursue their passion, be themselves, and love who they love. Even so, recognition of biological sex is something important. This is really critical in a medical context. For example: men who receive a blood transfusion from a pregnant or recently pregnant woman have an increased risk of death by transfusion-related lung injury. Another example: tracheostomy tubes differ in size depending on sex due to dimorphism in average tracheal diameter. A women who is reported as a male risks considerable injury by having a male sized tracheostomy tube forced into her windpipe. A considerable amount of medications differ in dose effectiveness and side effects based on biological sex. Something as straightforward as a heart attack has different symptoms depending on if the patient is female or male. Denial of biological sex is dangerous, and as it stands, medical science has not advanced enough to change the biological sex of an individual. If you are born male, you will stay male for your entire life. You say that a transwoman who has taken estrogen is more genetically similar to a woman, I'm sorry but that simply isn't true. A male person will always be more genetically similar to other males than to a female person.
Determination of sex is very simple, it's about the easiest genetic test to do. They have kits for high school classrooms to try out ffs. We need to leave the "meaningful sex change is possible through medical intervention" thing in the past, all we accomplish with that is giving people false hope and an unattainable goal to fixate on. Sex is real and immutable, I wish it didn't matter, but it does.
And why it matters is, maleness and femaleness have become inseparable from certain stereotypes and assigned qualities by societies in human history. Overwhelmingly, the male people subjugate the female people. Since men, male humans, discovered womens' ability to give birth could be taken advantage of, it was capitalized upon. And this is the foundation of patriarchal society. Religions were founded to justify this as the will of god. To deny that women have historically been persecuted due to their sex is, well, misogynistic. There is no "woman feeling" that makes us targets for child marriages, FGM, trafficking/prostitution, and other horrors from the minute we're born and even before. No, it's the sex we were born with that makes the world think it can decide our fate. In fact, the way that people treat male children differently from female children is so different so early, that we are genuinely unable to study human behaviour unaffected by gendered expectations. This is what feminists are talking about when they discuss "socialization". There is not a single man on the planet who knows exactly what it's like to see the world from a woman's eyes, no matter how feminine that man is. Womanhood isn't something you can achieve or acquire through effort: you were either born a woman or you weren't, just like you were either born with detached earlobes or not. It's so simple.
All that to get to my final point: Yes, I believe the definition of womanhood comes down to biology, because anything beyond that is a meaningless stereotype. Women can do anything, be anyone, look any way they want, go through any experience they do. The one thing they have in common is that they are female adult human beings. There is not way to fail at being a woman or do it wrong, you just are. Womanhood is the experience of having been a female person in this world, and nothing else. There are certain things only female human beings need, like abortion and female contraceptive rights, access to spaces where we can be safe from our subjugators (male human beings), and the ability to define ourselves and fight for our collective rights.
(At this point you may object and point out that male people who identify as trans women are also subject to violence and scorn from men: unfortunately that is often the case, but this does not make male people who identify as women, well, female. We need solutions for them that do not involve requiring women to sacrifice our comfort and safety for the sake of a particular subset of men, because of the inherent risks involved and the fact that women do not owe men anything even when those men have it bad.)
One last thing: my opinion is that prescribing exogenous cross-sex hormones is unethical (so are all elective cosmetic medical procedures but that's a post for a different day). I understand the distress that gender dysphoria inflicts on people, however the ill effects of hrt are too numerous to condone. The huge increase in risk of stroke with estrogen, heart disease and uterine atrophy with testosterone, and the way that trans medicine studies are notorious for losing followup with patients after a year or less... it's short sighted and frankly, financially motivated. The amount of trans patients who are prescribed hormones without access to an endocrinologist, it's honestly infuriating. People deserve the best care possible, not lab rat bullshit where they cut you loose when it's not working out. I won't judge anyone for what they do to themselves to cope with distress, but I want everyone, especially girls, to be aware of the lifetime effects medical decisions may have, and that you also can find happiness within yourself without hurting your body.
Thanks again for your question, be well ✌️

UnTamed Ch.11
Damian Wayne x OC!Female
Prev | Next
He has found nothing. Tim has been searching for the strange girl for three days now. With facial recognition and DNA testing (pulled from Robin's uniform), I found nothing. The relief he felt early on was quickly swept away.
The others were quite overjoyed and amused with the new knowledge of his new female 'friend.' While they wanted to meet, talk, and ask about her, they knew they couldn't because they weren't even supposed to know about her. Now, it amused them to watch Damian disappear because they knew/assumed where he was going.
Tim had yet to share his information on the girl, or lack thereof.
-
"Pretty," Duke said as he was shown a clearer picture of the girl.
"And they kissed," Stephanie cooed
"Oh, Damian had his first kiss," Dick owed like an adoring mother
"That was most definitely not his first kiss," Tim said as he continued to type aggressively on his computer."Our bro was handling that like a pro."
Tim ignored Steph's nudging. "Like father, like son," Jason laughed, tossing his head back.
"I hope not," Dick whispered, no longer feeling such joy, especially at the thought of another Bruce.
Dick remembered his youth and all the women that followed Bruce, the late-night giggling, and the many scandals. Of course, the women and scandals slowed down with each child. Six official children later, Bruce's scandal no longer involved women, at least not in a sexual manner. Now, all his scandals dealt with his kids and parenting, if not business. Dick very much did not want to see Playboy Damian in the tabloids.
"If that's the case, is she Selina or Talia?"
"Neither, I hope." Tim held Stephanie.
-
Damian watched as Asta lay across his bed, reading a book and putting colored tape on a few words as she went. " You're getting better," he said as he looked over her shoulder. She was doing much better but still struggling to pronounce some words or missing them altogether.
"I'm trying. Big words still get me," she says as she closes the book and rolls over to lie on her back. " I'm not a genius -"
"Obviously"
"But-but I'm smart now. Smart enough to survive, at least. Thanks to you." she says as she beckons him closer, wrapping her arms around his neck as he leans over her on his forearms.
"You're welcome." she giggled.
They hadn't spoken about the kiss from a few days back. They hadn't forgotten about it. They elected to simply ignore or not acknowledge it. It happened, and that was that. Or "What happened the other night?"
"what do you mean?" she asked. He lays down with his head on her chest.
"The kiss it was... very intimate and intense. we've never done anything like that before"
"I'm sorry-"
"I liked it. I really liked it ... And I'd like to do it again... please?" he looked up from where his head lay on her chest. She could feel his emotion. He was anxious, feeling worried, but also a bit excited and eager. She recognized it as an emotion he felt when he wanted a kiss. Rolling them over, Asta was on top of him, straddling him, and leaning down, she gave him a soft peck.
"Another," he whispers. She smiles against his lips.
He chases, having his tongue trace her lips before slipping past. She could taste that morning's orange juice on his tongue. He could probably taste the apple she stole this morning. His hands moved from her waist to her back, pulling her closer. She pulled away slightly to catch her breath. Asta giggles as she feels his joy.
He did not enjoy her giggles. Grabbing the back of her neck, he rolls over, putting himself on top. He laces his fingers in her hair, pulling her into another kiss, a bit more forceful and aggressive. She held on to his shoulders, holding him closer. Feeling his warmth as it seeps into her skin, asking for the beat of his heart as it beats between their chest. His clothes were their only barrier. It was all so overwhelming. As he pulled away slightly, she whimpered. He stopped.
"I'm- I'm sorry"
"It's okay. I liked it."

But how do we know it was actually Harry in the Vancouver-pics? Perhaps I'm missing something but the pics I saw were kind of blurry and far away. I'm not trying to excuse him, really not, but for me it seems like he should be placed there.
If I remember correctly, it wouldn't be the first time.
We didn't do a facial recognition software run through or a DNA test of the human in Vancouver if that's what you're asking. He was pictured with TR in Vegas around that time so we know he's been on that side of the pond. I'm inclined to believe it was Harry in Vancouver.
You're right, it wouldn't be the first time, but it would be a hassle to organise and pull off, when Harry was stunting with her in Vegas anyway.

Technology in the Classroom- Past, Present, and Future
I know I talk about it a lot, but I am a history person, and it definitely has a huge impact on my thinking. One of my major with-great-power-comes-great-responsibility-esque takeaways from my undergrad is that historians cannot and should not try to predict the future within academic or educational settings, as its unethical and outside of the wheelhouse of what History is as a discipline.
Despite this, considering the just-for-fun context, I do like to think about the contemporary factors that seem like they’d be major influences on future affairs and contexts, which is why I chose to discuss this article shared by Purdue University, “The Evolution of Technology in the Classroom.” I hadn’t much considered the history of technology in the classroom, as I never had focused on the narrow context of the impacts on education, I’ve preferred to focus more broadly on the impacts of technology on society. When narrowing my focus like this, I was quite interested in how this article traces the development of classroom technology:
16-1700s- Horn-Books: wooden paddles with printed lessons, used to assist students in learning verses.
1870s- the Magic Lantern, a primitive version of a slide projector that projected images printed on glass plates.
1890s- the chalkboard.
1900- the pencil.
1920s- radio, on-air classes.
1930- overhead projector.
1940- ballpoint pen.
1950- headphones.
1951- videotapes, the Skinner Teaching Machine
1959- the photocopier.
1972- the handheld calculator, the Scantron system of testing.
1980s- everyday-use computers introduced.
1981- the first portable computer.
1984/5- first mass-market consumer laptop
1990- The World Wide Web, Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML)
1993- the first Personal Digital Assistants released by Apple
This was informative and fun because I like knowing some of the reasons why things are the way that they are now, but what really caught my attention about this article is the section hypothesizing about what classroom technology will look like in the future, beyond the use of social media and digital networks.
The author asserts three ideas as to what future classroom technology might look like: 1. Biometrics, 2. AR glasses, and 3. Multi-touch surfaces.
Beginning with biometrics, a technology that recognizes people based on certain physical or behavioral traits, the author states that it is “on the technological horizon.” They claim that the science will be used to recognize the physical and emotional disposition of students in the classroom, altering course material to tailor to each individual’s needs based on biometric signals. This was very interesting to me- I had little previous knowledge of what biometrics are, so I looked it up, finding a definition from Kaspersky Lab that says that “biometrics are biological measurements- or physical characteristics- that can be used to identify individuals. For example, fingerprint mapping, facial recognition, and retina scans are all forms of biometric technology, but these are just the most recognized options.” The definition goes on to label the three groups of biometrics:
1. Biological biometrics use traits at a genetic and molecular level. These may include features like DNA or your blood, which might be assessed through a sample of your body’s fluids.
2. Morphological biometrics involve the structure of your body. More physical traits like your eye, fingerprint, or the shape of your face can be mapped for use with security scanners.
And 3. Behavioral biometrics are based on patterns unique to each person. How you walk, speak, or even type on a keyboard can be an indication of your identity if these patterns are tracked.
I know that this definition comes from the security context, but I have a hard time seeing how this technology could be used in the context outlined by the article’s author, and why. Teachers are equipped to recognize the physical indicators of human emotions, as they experience human emotions themselves. And I think it’s far too great of a reliance on technology and AI to adjust, adapt, and create coursework, as needed, and based off perceived student emotional state. But who I am I to say.
The next idea is that of Augmented Reality (AR glasses), which the author argues to be “a whole new world for education,” providing the example of a student wearing AR Glasses, as they could potentially sit at their desk and have a conversation with Thomas Edison about invention, and making the point that “it was Edison, after all, who said that ‘Books will soon be obsolete in schools. Scholars will soon be instructed through the eye.’” I think the point about books is stupid, and was taken out of context- I think Edison meant that schools would better educate students by allowing them to have experiences, yes, but guided experiences. AR can provide this for students, and I think that, based off my own experiences, too, AR would be beneficial for digital field trips, VR art experiences (super cool, my school had a headset for this), and other kinesthetic experiences that are not accessible for a variety of reasons.
The last idea is that of Multi-touch surfaces, which I think the author means basically having a big iPad for a desk, claiming that “Multi-touch surfaces are commonly used through equipment such as the iPhone, but the technology could become more relevant to education through entirely multi-touch surfaces, such as desks or workstations. This could allow students to collaborate with other students, even those around the world, and videos and other virtual tools could be streamed directly to the surface.” This is a creative idea, but immediately the cellphone ban, the risk of students damaging the undoubtedly expensive multi-touch equipment, and the likely attribution to students’ dependence on technology comes to mind as concerns.
On the positive side, I feel like multi-touch desks would have a very positive impact on accessibility and inclusivity, providing many learning tools and UDLs directly to each individual student.
Overall, I think these ideas are quite far-fetched and not necessarily reasonable, but it certainly will be interesting to see what future classroom technology develops into as I begin my journey as a teacher.

The advancement of DNA analysis continues to transform criminal defense. Techniques such as next-generation sequencing and rapid DNA testing provide faster, more accurate findings. These improvements allow defense attorneys to more effectively question forensic evidence and detect any flaws in the prosecution's case.
Digital Forensics:
As digital traces grow more common, digital forensics has developed as an important aspect of criminal defense. Advanced software tools may retrieve and analyze data from electronic devices, giving crucial evidence in cases of cybercrime, fraud, and other digital offenses. The capacity to monitor digital conversations and transactions can reveal exonerating evidence and expose faults in the prosecution's case.
Biometrics:
Tech firms are getting better at implementing more sophisticated biometric technologies like facial recognition, fingerprint analysis, and voice identification. While these technologies will be beneficial for law enforcement, defense attorneys need to remember what their limitations are and the potential strengths of their inherent biases. Defense teams that comprehend the intricacies of biometric evidence can challenge its veracity and admissibility.
AI and Machine Learning
Predictive Analytics:
Historical data can be used to predict legal outcomes. Using data insights derived from predictive analytics, defense attorneys can accurately predict the likelihood of various trial outcomes before a case has been tried in court while also recognizing patterns within case law to further strengthen their arguments. Another use for these tools is in the earlier stage of plea negotiations, giving guidance based on data to shed light on what trade-offs exist between going to trial and accepting a deal.
Automated Legal Research:
Legal research platforms that are enhanced with AI can automate the identification of case law, statutes, and other useful legal precedents thus significantly saving time and effort. They analyze a massive amount of legal data, which can ultimately aid the defense attorney in building stronger cases and finding key arguments faster too.

I'll give u examples, section 230 is one of them, first elon made Twitter private, then defined it as a publishing platform,, and now there pushing the censor accountability act which makes it seem like it's hold the government accountable, but really it's giving the government the ability to strip down section 230 and individually hold people accountable for publishing things, remember how elon said u can say whatever so long as it's not illegal, and what u cant say is very vague,, do u see how ur getting fucked, do u see how they changed free speech into publishing, like ur a news station lol..
Or the patriot act how it seemed like it was for fighting terrorists but really just a way to eavesdrop on everyone's privacy through the nsa,,
Or how bout roe vrs wade,, people think it's about abortion,, but really it was your medical privacy that got taken away, so it could be legally added to the databases,, that they collect and add to in every way,, 23 n me legally sold ur DNA, all these face filter apps legally mapped u for facial recognition.. there giving away free crypto in exchange for a retna scan... u guys literally willingly swabbed ur brain and sent it in as a covid test and let them inject you with sum shit that changed ur dna.. . idk I feel like I'm taking crazy pills cuz everyone seems retarded af or at the very least naive, they don't think they don't research they don't discern information.. high and drunk, cheers to idiocracy I suppose...
For the love of God put in sum effort at being smarter.. understand everyone in hell got outsmarted...

I mean, Star Trek has is as a grandfathered aspect - Spock was part of the franchise from inception, and was early on established as a hybrid, at a time before we understood DNA enough to understand that, no, actually, it would likely be difficult to get the bits and such to play nice together. And even later Trek did start to acknowledge the difficulties (re: Bashir telling Jadzia that there would need to be medical intervention in order to let her and Worf have a baby, there needing to be active involvement of the Doctor and medical assistance to allow B'Elanna and Tom's baby to survive the pregnancy).
But TOS came out at a time before DNA testing was common - there's an episode in TOS where the reason a mass murderer escaped was because a corpse was found where he should have been and was assumed to be him because it was burnt beyond recognition for fingerprints or dental records, rather than using DNA testing, because the concept of DNA testing wasn't around at the time.
As our understanding of science changes, things change in portrayals. We now understand how much more difficult it would be for human-alien hybrids to happen just on accident and that medical intervention would absolutely NEED to be involved.
But honestly, I think the bigger block on this is how truly ALIEN the aliens are in Mass Effect, and how taking the Star Trek approach of blending the two styles of makeup, or just softening the makeup with regards to human-alien hybrids, would create things that actively LOOK horrifying, would actively fall into the uncanny valley, BECAUSE these very alien designs do not mesh with the design of humans.
Again, when you're dealing with Star Trek aliens, where more often than not, the difference is a little bit of facial putty, because you're dealing actors, and to date, so far as we know, all actors are human, you can blend designs or soften the makeup in comparison. But because of the fact that everything in Mass Effect is CG, the aliens in the game got to be truly alien, and then would just look WRONG if you started trying to blend them with human designs.
CONFESSION:
I am so grateful that Mass Effect has not subjected us to "hybrids." I mean, asari and their essentially psychic reproduction is a bit wild -- but it also makes more sense than species that evolved on different planets being able to reproduce together by blending gametes. Even if some of Star Trek lore sort of explains why species are compatible and mostly just vary by forehead prosthetics, it's a weakness. A weakness that Mass Effect does not share.

like unless someone literally sees you do it or you get caught with the stolen goods/murder weapon/whatever, you're good. No CCTV, DNA testing wasn't used for crimesolving purposes until the 1980s (in the US at least), no databases or facial recognition
And legally speaking everything Curt and Owen do on the job is a crime. Killing people? Crime. Stealing? Crime. Espionage? Big crime. Being gay? Crime. They may not get prosecuted by their own countries for it (well except for the gay thing), but they are literally just crime spreeing their way through any other country they visit
writing spies fanfiction really makes you think about how easy it was to do crimes in the 1950s
