Now that the dust has settled a little bit on the arrests around the coronation, I want to talk a little bit about what this means for the future of protest and policing in England and Wales.
Firstly, I want to caveat this by saying the police have always hated protests. Getting arrested at a protest has always been a risk. Getting beaten up by the police as they try to provoke violence has always been a risk. At a recent anti-fascist counter protest I attended, two arrests were made. One of these later turned out to be âmistaken identityâ (neither person was charged), but this is what weâve always been dealing with.
However, I do think this idea of arrest for conspiracy to cause a public nuisance is dangerous. Itâs essentially a thought crime. We think you might do something criminal, therefore we are going to arrest you. It has the power to significantly disrupt all sorts of actions, and we do need to be wary of it. The fact you can be arrested whilst walking to a protest, carrying a sign or a megaphone, and that this arrest *may* be legal (I hope some of those involved today try to sue for wrongful arrest, but we will see) means potentially some actions will never get started, and that is not good for the future of protest in this country.
I would never blame someone for their arrest- their arrest is the fault of the police and the police alone. That said, we know Republic were talking to cops about their plans. This did not protect them, and may have made it easier for the police to locate and arrest them. I think, on here, we all know talking to cops is a bad idea, but letâs say it again, louder for those at the back âDONâT TALK TO COPSâ.
Now, the police say that the coronation is a once in a lifetime event, hence their response- blah blah- the police hate protest. If they get away with this, they will do it again, they will push things as far as they can to try and shut down protest they donât agree with. This means we do need to be careful around OpSec etc. I also know people who donât understand why e.g. antifa groups conceal their identity. But this is yet another good reason to do so. Black bloc, grey bloc, staying anonymous online, secure communications all of this is increasingly important- whilst also obviously trying to ensure good turn outs.
If the police are going to arrest you for walking to a protest with a megaphone, then whatâs stopping us from being more violent/aggressive in our protest? I know some people are ideologically wedded to peaceful protest, but these actions are now potentially illegal too. So whatâs stopping us? What is actually holding us back? If holding a sign is too much for them, if thatâs on the level of smashing a window now, then whatâs to stop us smashing windows?
Finally, I want to talk to the organisers of peaceful protests about police monitoring and post arrest support. In the past, many groups have felt this wasnât needed. But now, it could be. If youâre organizing a protest of any kind, I strongly encourage you to get in touch with the Green and Black Cross for advice, and to arrange legal observers. Print out bust cards and distribute them. Iâd also strongly encourage you to set up some post arrest support. Itâs far better to have it, and not need it, than need it and not have it. If youâre concerned about police behaviour, you could also contact NetPol for advice.

I didn't watch the Eventâ˘ď¸ yesterday. I didn't check the news, refused to engage with any of it, determined not to inadvertently give it ratings.
But I did keep up to date with the arrests. The arrests of anti-monarchy protesters. Because my country passed a law that allowed any protests during the Eventâ˘ď¸, peaceful or otherwise, to be forcefully shut down. For no reason other than "being a nuisance".
Here are just some of the reasons protesters were arrested:
- buying coffee, before the protest had even begun.
- standing near a statue of Charles I, who was executed by republicans.
- handing out r*pe alarms to women at 2am that morning who were on a night out. The reason being "we thought they would use the alarms to attempt to interrupt the procession".
- holding a megaphone in a park, because "loud noises may disturb the royal horses". Ignoring the fact that there were literal drummers and brass players on horseback leading the procession.
So if you think for one second that putting politics aside to observe the Eventâ˘ď¸ is an actual thing, think again, think long and fucking hard. We are losing our right to protest. It'll start with events like these, and then the Tories will find reasons to implement it the rest of the time.
And let's not forget that King Man Baby himself fought to get the protest law put through as soon as possible. Politically neutral my fucking arse.
Fuck this joke of an island. Fuck anyone who votes Tory. Fuck anyone who gives these jewel-laden inbred colonising parasites an ounce of their respect or time. FUCK OFF.

We've lost the right to protest. Democracy is over. Multiple arrests pre protest. Welcome to the dark ages

imagine if we put the kings coronation money towards fixing food poverty in the UK, the cost of the queens funeral + the coronation is enough to solve the child food poverty crisis in the UK but instead tax payers money was wasted on a dead woman and a dying princess in a golden fucking cart. the potholes in the road were temporarily filled with sand because they "didnt have the funds" because apparently ÂŁ100 MILLION POUNDS of TAXPAYERS MONEY is better spent on a cunt in a cart than itd be if it was spent on fixing our roads for our safety or saving children in poverty from dying due to malnutrition, they wont get a fucking gold cart, they wont even get their gcses because the government DONT CARE ABOUT THE PEOPLE THEY CARE ABOUT THE PROFIT.
THEY DO NOT CARE IF WE DIE AS LONG AS THEY ARE LIVING IN LUXURY

The coronation is litterally leading to people going hungry.
I have conflicting feelings about foodbanks, but this is appalling, so maybe consider dropping your local foodbank a donation?

Oh the British canât afford another funeral because their government grossly overspends for their monarchs who donât give a shit about them?
Huh I wonder if thereâs any example of people in history rebelling against monarchs who overtaxed people or anything like that.
Iâm sure it would be a helpful precedent if something like that existed.
