something that rly grinds my gears in theatre is when choices are made solely based on time period. and not including themes, symbolism, yk the actual Meaning of the show alongside its true-to-context setting.

take gatsby for example. you can either go “okay it’s in the 1920s in these parts of new york so we’re gonna have super glitz and glam here here and here” or. or.

you can say “okay well we know that for jay and daisy, their wealth came from other people’s downfalls (daisy through turning down jay and jay through wolfshiem’s deeds) and their status and class privilege is represented through myrtle getting hit by the car right. so let’s make that the entire setting of the play, disguised by glitz and glam. let’s make the entire set shiny and pretty and have those shiny and pretty things actually be smashed-up car parts, meaning the car accident is ‘happening’ the whole play, while still upholding the illusion of new money glam”. do u get me.

My toxic trait as an audience member is that whenever things are about to turn out alright but get fucked up at the last minute because there needs to be another installment in the series it just pisses me the fuck off. If theres gonna be a big overarching conflict in your story don't get my hopes up with it looking like they almost fixed it and then SIKE! FIVE MORE SEASONS! Thats obnoxious. I dont know what people think it accomplishes for the story.

EEEEHEHEHHEHE I'M SO HAPPY YOU ASKED ABT THIS ONE I AM SO MUCH FUCKING FUN WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! okok but so . it is a different world and it is a different suguru (though i can't lie there are similarities between them both anyway lmao). he does not resent violence nor is he afraid of it, this suguru is a pretty cold one. he's definitely meaner than the ihtctaot suguru.

the thing is that suguru drops to his knees willingly and the reader is the one who doesn't and that's what makes them clash so hard. neither of them like each other, reader dislikes suguru because they think he's just a dog, doing whatever the king says with his tail wagging and suguru dislikes the reader because they're disobedient. they only reason the reader is trying to become a knight is literally just that they'll have a job, that they'll have a roof over their head and so in suguru's eyes, they're not worth it. they're just faking it and they need to be punished for it.

but the reader takes the punishment and just pushes through, never wavering for even a moment and that on its own makes suguru seethe. because in a way, this is devotion too. you're so hell bent on not giving up just to spite him and to claim the stupid fucking title even though you don't care for it.

don't get me wrong though, this will not be angst. bloody lips and bruised knuckles, it's a twisted kind of love.

my heart says, that for the whimsy, this girl was a chaos child through and through. getting up to all kinds of mischief in the name of "science." im talking about blowing up the roof of her science class in the middle of an experiment and getting suspended for several weeks. using her siblings as test subjects and getting grounded for the rest of summer. she was loud and bold and opinionated and wasn't very well liked by most of her peers, but i don't think she was ever SUPER insecure---we see in the show that she trusts herself and respects herself and knows she deserves better in some cases and i like to think that she always had that sort of confidence in herself because!!!! she should!!!!! she's smart and pretty and morally grey what else could anyone ask for!!!
