okay so just as an opener i think my parameters for 'good' and 'bad' are a lot looser than most people's, in that i'm really compelled by stuff that's fine to genuinely terrible and i'm willing to forgive almost anything if what i'm watching feels earnest in even some small way. 'what is this trying to do' and 'does it succeeding in doing it' feel like fairer metrics of judgement for me, separate from something's 'goodness' or 'badness' if that makes sense. saying that, this show absolutely sucks. i won't name it directly so as not to put it in a tag of people just enjoying themselves. it sucks and i love it to bits. the mc is dull to a degree that is almost unbearable. he does things that make me want to pick up my dvd box set and shake it so hard that he blacks out. yes, dvd! i own these! and i don't regret it

i don't think there's a single element in this that hasn't been done better in another show, especially from that time period in the 00s where the whole tits blood guns thing was really 'in', but i don't know. something about it. i think it's healthy to be fond of things that vary in degree of quality. i think it stops that insecure 'if i like it it HAS to be good, or that'll mean my taste is bad!' impulse that can creep up. i'm not sponsored by mid anime but let me tell you i'd sell out in a heartbeat

it's interesting how both work remixes highlight how bare and short the original song is. in the don diablo remix, jongho's high note gets extended, and in the edenary remix, the first chorus gets re-edited as a prechorus leading into an instrumental chorus, and then they add a ~3 seconds long transition into hongjoong's verse. all those changes sound better than the original, because you need breathing space and pacing for a song to sound good.

i'm still wondering whether they'll return to Good Musicmaking with the next comeback, or keep on doing those atz-flavoured chill vibes over and over because it's what's currently popular :']
