Okay! 22. Give us a (brief, or not) history lesson of your OC(s)

Let me get the uh...the spreadsheet up...

Mercy: Mercy Rose (Bishop) Hamilton, born on 08/02/49 in Florida. She moved to the Boston area after meeting Nathaniel Joseph Hamilton and he finished with his military service. She started out as a defense attorney in a fairly large firm, but left because the partners were a bunch of "jackasses." She started her own firm and would take cases pro-bono to help "the little guy" beat "big old bullies." This tenacity and stubborn streak would aid her well when she woke-up in Vault 111 after Nate was killed and Shaun taken. Despite being a tiny burning torch of rage and grief, she's dedicated herself to finding a way to track down her husband's killers while also forging a home in the Commonwealth and she's not going to let anybody stand in her way to track down her son (pro-tip, she's Highly Disappointed in who and what Shaun became). She eventually falls in love with MacCready, Deacon, and Jake Evans - cobbling together an unorthodox relationship that somehow works - even if Mac never stops bossing people, Jake leaves tools everywhere, and Deacon has the gravitas of a 2 year old.

Sparrow "Emma" Williams: Born 01/03/2269, is 19 when you first meet her. She was born somewhere in Massachusetts, but not in the Boston Commonwealth area. Her parents were farmers on a decently prosperous farm and she was the oldest of three children. When she was 11, slavers attacked the farm. They killed her father, tortured her mother, and ripped her younger brother and sister out of her hands. She got away, but not before she was shot. A neighboring farm took her in as little more than slave labor. She stayed until well enough to travel, moving from farm to farm as she grew older, till she heard of Diamond City. The Great Green Jewel sounded like the best place for an illiterate 14 year old who needed work, so she managed to make her way there. Unfortunately, at 16, the Institute paranoia began to run over into Piper's writings, and Emma - who is so pale she's almost an albino, around 4'9" tall, malnourished, and barely talks - caught the eye of the locals. Convinced she was an Institute plant, they drove her from the city, several men holding her down and branding her so she couldn't Hide The Truth. She fled into the Commonwealth and hid, making do with scavving and living off of what she could steal. When Mercy started setting up settlements, transplants from Diamond City saw her and spread the word that she was Institute. A bounty (that hit 600 caps) for her dead or alive was issued - and Mercy didn't know about it. Fortunately for Emma, she ran into a helping hand - Canary aka Grace Williams. Canary and her partner, Birdie, adopted Emma - who renamed herself Sparrow. She now does work for the Railroad and Mercy. She's dating a synth named Bean and a member of the Railroad, Darcy (Coyote). Francesca "Frankie" Warren is 23 (I haven't gotten her birthdate down yet) and is part of the local band, Cora and the Wailers. The band plays in Annie's Tavern in Jamaica Plains and is one of the biggest draws to the burgeoning town. She grew up near the Dallas/Ft. Worth Crater in Texas, the only child to the High Priest and his Wife of a Fundamentalist Christian Children of Atom cult. The cult believes that Atom is the return of Jesus and true believers will allow themselves to show their belief through division. Frankie was raised to become the wife of her father's second-in-command's oldest - who was only 14 years older than her (blech). When she turned 14, she stole money from the church lockbox and hightailed it West to California where she became a stripper, taught herself to play more than just the banjo and clarinet (she also plays the guitar and trumpet) and joined Cora's band. The band started heading East, hit the Commonwealth, heard about Jamaica Plains - and well, settled in (in the SWAMP as Frankie likes to moan). She's a fiesty 4'10" of blonde hair and big brown eyes that will beat you with a big old stick. She met a "hot" ghoul (she's the first to admit that Beau is one gnarly looking dude - but that man is FIRE) and fell in love...hard. Her and Beau will be heading back West to Texas to rescue her baby sister...that she just found out about when her Daddy showed up to abduct her and drag her back to Texas. Let's just say that Beau's sweet and a gentleman - till you hurt Frankie...and then some of who he used to be comes out to play.

He genuinely doesn't remember anything past first obtaining the platinum chip and even then that exchange is foggy. He's not too worried about getting them back either as long as he's still aim is still straight.

Has been going through a nonstop gauntlet since he left the vault. Long story short: he sobbed when he found Codsworth, he sobbed when he managed to make his way back to Valentine's office, and he sobbed anytime his Pip-Boy map would glitch out. Despite this, not a pushover. Don't test him.

Age: 23 (at time of ghoulification), now? They'll never tell.

Just kinda hangs around, you could find her pretty much anywhere with a terminal and/or a surface to sleep on. When he's in the commonwealth, he likes hacking Diamond City’s turrets for fun when there's nothing too serious going on. Either that or they're camped out in Goodneighbor.

Prob a good place to mention that I take free screenshot commissions in Fallout 4! Free! Send me a poseprompt/NPC and in my downtime between fic chapters I'll see what I can do! You can browse my photos on my archive with this tag -> Fallout Screenshots. I can pose pretty much any NPC/animal. Long rambly post so there's more below the cut.

I was a film photographer before I ever was artful about game screenshots. I came up in the Ansel Adams school of thought. His whole thing was he'd hike up to a mountain with a large format camera on a heavy tripod. He'd see the resulting image in his "mind's eye" and imagine each and every problem possible he'd have to contend with in the creative process to get there. He was the most low-key, soft-spoken batshit crazy control freak artist who made each photo look easy. You'd never guess at the amount of time and work and travel it took him to take one photo. Even his simplest works make people feel ant-small compared to the arresting grandness of the American landscape's most boring viscera. I have several books of his and four of the official/authorized prints, and I bring AA up because I'm kinda insane in the same ways when it comes to screenshots. In my books, it should never be just an image, it should be the most elevated version of the image you can make given your current skill and tools available at that present moment. My Yeehawgust 2024 entry, Rocky Mountain High, is an example of that. A five image composite stitched in post processing with set and lighting design including hand-placed trees and custom terraforming of a map in Creation Kit.

The easy answer is Photo Mode. I have a 400ish-entry mod list that is built around taking photos, but Photo Mode is really the key because it allows you to rotate the camera and pause game time with a user interface instead of relying on console. I approach screenshots the same as my film cameras.

My simplest game -> upload pipeline are my candid portraits. I will notice the way light creates shadow on an object or a character will be doing something interesting and then I bring up Photo Mode to capture it. I then load the image in Clip Studio and adjust using correction layers; normally levels/saturation/brightness and contrast set to lowish opacity, a sharpness action then a crop and that's it.

My more complex game -> upload pipelines can be as "easy" as posing characters (mine often begin with premade anims/poses but the end result is almost always a custom-tweaked pose; I'm considering releasing a pose mod of my custom work) or as complex as set and lighting design. Sometimes that's as easy as using the settlement builder. Sometimes that's as complex as fixing up a model in Blender/Nifskope, or opening up Creation Kit and making custom tweaks to the world map because the way I need it to look doesn't exist in mods/vanilla. Depending on what I am trying to accomplish, it can take me several days to create a staged scene. Work on Chapter 15 screenshots started two months ago because I knew I would need a lot of time to test and iterate.

Uhhh what else? Most photos take between 10-30 test photos before I get it right. I also use 4k-8k textures; Jack, Livvie and RJ all have unique clothes and bodyslide presets. Shit gets weird when I forget and put RJ in clothes meant for Mr. Bowling Ball Deltoids himself, Jack. I manipulate game time and weather with console. I dislike most ENB and in my arrogance I believe there's almost nothing ENB can do for a still image that I can't achieve in post-processing.

9. Lone Wanderer or always with a companion (or more)? Sooo...Mercy used to travel with just Dogmeat. Then Preston sent her out to a settlement that sent her to Corvega? And after that, she started dragging him with her. Because WTF...she sat outside of that pit for 4 DAYS. But now she travels with MacCready and Deacon. Or Deacon and Nick. Or Deacon, Nick, and Hancock. Or...you get the picture. Because Mac gets Really Mad when Mercy gets hurt - and she's been hurt A Lot More sense those meat-heads (as Nick calls them) entered her life.

Sparrow travels either with her Mama & Papa, with Darcy for jobs (if he's around), or by herself. She used to get really upset with Darcy for inviting himself along on jobs, but she has to admit it's nice to have help.

Frankie either travels with the band or with Beau. And since the band settled down in Jamaica Plains, it's all Beau. The two of them on his motorcycle? Hell yeah!

14. What are their hobbies? Mercy jokes that MacCready, Deacon, and Jake are her hobbies. Then she looks mournful because Who Has The Time My God. Or maybe annoying the BOS? Making Danse look absolutely terrified of her? But seriously, it's cooking. Mercy loves to cook and read a good book.

Sparrow...um. Stealing sandwiches from Aiden (Sim Settlements 2). Asking Bean to teach her how to read and write. Petting the llamas at the paddock. Climbing trees. Laying with Darcy and asking him questions.

Frankie - Frankie would like you to know that Beau IS her hobby, thank you very much that man is the hottest damn thing. Also cooking and then having Southern moments with Mercy, playing banjo on the porch, writing songs, watching Haywire spin around Jamaica Plains with a cat on their head and Beau...everything comes back to Beau.

15. Chems/booze/cannibalism/vices in general? Mercy - likes rum and colas. She gets two in her and she passes out cold. Also cookies. Does somehow collecting three lovers count as a vice?

Sparrow - snack cakes. SNACK. CAKES. She doesn't drink or do drugs. Because Sparrow, on a good day, is 80 pounds. So food tends to be a vice, in her mind. She does think murder is an acceptable way to deal with most problems - something her adopted mother is working on. She'd like you to know that cuddles from Bean and Darcy Kisses are better than anything, though.

Frankie - Tequila. Hard Cider. She doesn't do many drugs, but doesn't mind if Beau does. She's got a naughty streak a mile wide and likes when Beau marks her up during sex so she can flaunt it - though not when she's doing her burlesque shows cause the bruising mars the look. Fluffy clothing like ruffled panties. Beau. She says Beau is her drug of choice.

Sickness headcanons

Hmmmmmmmmmmm being that Tango is basically a brain slapped into a suit of heavily modified powerarmour they don't get sick as such anymore. Would be a germaphobe but they have far too much confidence in their own mechanical work, which is good, cause if they did get virus or bacteria in their life support system it would be very very bad news! (What does getting a cold in your brain even feel like????). They are however susceptible to computer viruses as the brain-suit interface is a huge amount custom software and hardware. They often find it easier to hack things 'software to software' and will plug themselves in to random terminals to hack em directly.. (they have modified one of the little storage containers in the torso to hold a few cables connected to them with various common plugs to the can interface with things). They also will just load random holotapes onto themselves if they want to see what's on it and there's no terminal nearby.. which is a GREAT way to get a virus or malware.. (and is a legitemate hacker technique irl!, people's first thought at finding a random drive on the ground is often to plug it into their computer rip). The good thing about custom software is that any virus doesn't work as intended ….. once they overloaded and fried nearly every wire.. that was a hell of a job to fix ..

Drink headcanons

Since the only biological bit of Tango left is brain, it's takes not much alcohol to put them on the goddamn floor, though without a body the worst hangover symptoms they can get are headache. The life support system is particularly good at filtering out poisons (ie. alcohol) so being the drunkard that he is Darren (one of the 2 robobrains that made tango) invented a bypass / injection system so they can all still drink haha. Tango doesn't like being vunerable so mostly avoids getting full drunk, but does like being a bit tipsy, especially if everyone else is drinking. Is a bloody menace drunk though, has forgotten they are armoured while very drunk at the party after taking the castle and tried to sleep in a bed breaking it (sorry Preston!). Also Tango is prickly at the best of times but hungover Tango is cranky af, even without facial expressions they are super expressive in body language and hungover Tango is enough to make people scatter haha.

Ridiculous headcanons

…… everything about tango is already kinda ridiculous lol but particularly that they have 0 lockpick ability. Not even novice locks. They are nimbler than normal power armour but it's still power armour. Good luck holding a bobby pin. Attempts usually result in rage and broken doors.

Also! If they think they are completely alone you may spot small robobrain style arms poking out of panels trying to fix / clean parts of themselves. (Especially the helmets visor, still needs to be clean for the sensors to see through em). Has spooked Hancock once, but he was high at the time so it's ok haha.

i dont draw so all art of delilah comes from my dear friends who draw her for me/with their ocs and tell me i can post it OR from commissions. what i can do, however, is write <3 and make playlists and pinterest boards for visuals <3 so prepare urself <3

appearance:

24 years old, 5’10”

very fair skinned with bright green eyes and jet black hair

her hair is wavy and flows down to the middle of her back. she has one small braid behind her right ear

covered in freckles, from her nose to her knees. she has a tiny scar above her mouth from a past split lip and a slit in her opposite eyebrow from a past black eye

midriff is heavily discolored from past bruises - the pigmentation never fully went away - and marred with keloid scars from deep cuts from things she refuses to talk about. if her dress has a high enough slit, bruises can peek out near the very tops of her legs

large black kingsnake tattoo wrapping up a her left arm with its head near her shoulder and its tail near/on her hand

she can almost always be found in her wine-colored silk dress that reaches only about mid-thigh, nails manicured and lips painted to match. it has spaghetti straps and is loosely bodycon.

she wears stacks of gold rings (as many as possible, really) and dangly gold snake earrings

the only things she keeps on her person are the dagger and the gun strapped to her thighs under her dress. her gun was a gift from KL-E-0. it is a custom gold-plated, silenced 10mm. lilah named it "Mine"

she's not strong nor has much endurance, but when you're as smart, perceptive, and charismatic as she is, you can charm people into carrying your stuff for you anyway.

her perks are party girl (alcohol/chem resistance), black widow (damage/persuasion against men), night person (higher int at night), and intimidation (pacify, instruct, and force opponents to attack). and deacon's cloak and dagger, of course.

personality:

cold, calculated, distant

cares about very, very few people (and even fewer things) but is fiercely loyal to those people. she's a railroad agent, but only because deacon cares about the cause and she begrudgingly cares about deacon

she and deacon clash. he refused to even vouch for her admission to the railroad. she gets along much better with glory, but she still gets assigned to run jobs with deacon because they keep each other in check and are deadly efficient as a pair (theyre also in love but they keep it a secret from everyone including each other)

she cares about very very few people but it fiercely loyal to those people. she is a railroad agent, but only because deacon cares about the cause and she "begrudgingly" cares about deacon (she cares literally so much do not let her fool u)

her moral compass is not magnetic. right and wrong is whatever she wants it to be. she takes no issue killing people if they wrong her. sexual harassment or subterfuge/targeted deception send marks to the top of her hit list.

her story:

her birth name is allie eden

she is not a sole survivor; she was born into the capital wasteland chapter of the brotherhood of steel. despite sentinel lyons' best efforts, delilah responded far better to scribe training than to combat training

she and arthur maxson were the only two kids in the citadel, and they became fast friends, even after the lyons pride crumbled and maxson was appointed elder.

he appointed her his sentinel, second in command, which she embraced until she saw how terribly the wasteland was faring under his leadership.

she promptly absconded and, because she had been so sheltered until that day, quickly lost herself to chems and alcohol.

months passed in, thanks to all the blackouts, what felt like hours. one night, allie woke up in a warm bed that she did not fall asleep in. a man named dante deangelo had pulled her body from a D.C. gutter and made sure she was safe.

in no time, they fell in love and decided to escape to the commonwealth. they found a small, basement apartment in goodneighbor and allie began tending bar at the third rail.

dante, slowly but surely, became more abusive. he left bruises and deep cuts on her body anywhere her third rail uniform would cover. she stayed, though, because she'd been raised by the brotherhood to believe that love was harsh and painful. to obey without question. to submit to authority.

eventually, she tired of that life and snapped, killing dante before he could leave any more marks on her. something... shifted. maybe it was allie eden who entered their apartment that morning, but it was delilah who left it that night.

KL-E-0, who was quite fond of allie and is far fonder of delilah, fitted her with pistol, Mine.

instead of hiding behind the bar like she had when she was with dante, she began to use it to her advantage. every dusty drifter with full pockets full of caps left her bar empty handed. but it wasnt enough.

she began targeting triggermen, who she knew were peddling chems for... someone in goodneighbor. the moment a man started flirting with her (which she hated), it was like a red dot sight appeared on their foreheads. she'd seduce them, take them back to her apartment, get her caps and chems and information, and the men would never be seen again.

morowski, goodneighbor kingpin, eventually approached her at work about his shrinking pool of chem peddlers. they struck a deal: he would slip her into his operation as his newest arm candy, and she would peddle his chems at her bar.

it worked flawlessly until morowski actually fell in love with her. go figure. unless, of course, that was lilah's plan all along...

while she's still participating in this farce with morowski, she meets drummer boy, who she ends up truly enjoying the company of even despite her general distaste for men. eventually, he convinces her to join the railroad with him

because morowski is in love with delilah, she has no issue squeezing information out of him when deacon asks her to: morowski is an institute informant. lilah quickly, uh, deals with that problem, and the next days, morowski is found dead in his office at the rexford. cause of death: self inflicted gunshot wound. what a tragedy.

because delilah was his "other half," his unofficial widow, she inherited morowski's whole chem operation

now, she happily spends her days directing the triggermen and tending her bar - for fun and for information, at this point, because she certainly doesnt need the caps. when she needs to run for the railroad or her beloved friends need her professional black widow skills, whitechapel charlie is "happy" to cover for her. as happy as he can manage, anyway.

fun facts:

she is terrified of storms, heights, and violent outbursts from people she trusts

her name comes from the bible story of sampson and delilah, where delilah is paid by the government to seduce sampson (a man of god) and tempt him to sin by telling her what gives him his inhuman strength. after three attempts, she is successful. sampson tells her that god gives him his strength through his hair. she then cuts his hair, which ultimately leads to his death. i mean what a bad bitch

she is still deeply unhappy even after she wraps goodneighbor around her finger because she still doesnt know who she is

she's skeptical of maxson's move to the commonwealth. she is very much on the run from him (and the bortherhood as a whole), and ham happily vets drifters for her to ensure theyre not undercover brotherhood before letting them into the bar.

she and maccready arent exactly "friends" but they harbor mutual respect for each other since they spend so much time together. mac had to call her off like a guard dog when winlock and barnes paid him a visit, so shes confident he would do the same if the brotherhood ever came knocking.
