Sweet Delights
Peeta Mellark x AFAB!Reader
Tumblr media
Summery: It's a slow work day in District 12. With rain pouring down outside, who can blame you for wanting to indulge a little? Everything's fine so long as no one walks in... right?
Tags: Pre-established relationship, no use of y/n, pet names, reader has AFAB body/female pronouns, switch!Peeta, switch!Reader, edging, female fingering, teasing, count down, orgasm denial, blow job, face fucking, public sex, someone walks in, dirty talk, Peeta's a freak but he's sweet about it, praise kink if you squint, mentions of eating out, cum swallowing, cursing, post-Mockingjay but that's not really relevant, no reader orgasm this time around. Once again, I'm probably forgetting something.
Notes: I have to say, I did not expect Peeta to win the poll! And not to worry for everyone else, I'll get to all those characters eventually. (Derek girlies, I see you and I love you.) Thank you for your support on the last one, I hope you like this one too! Bon ABBA teeth.

Peeta loves surprises.
Giving them, receiving them. If it's unexpected, Peeta is practically bouncing off his chair to figure out what to do with it.
It made everyday life sweeter. Slipping a note into his apron pocket when he wasn't looking for him to discover, finding a million more hidden in my apron. Little drawings hidden amongst everyday things, like the wildflowes Peeta likes to draw and place next to my powders and perfumes. But best of all surprises were the little pastries we would make when the days were slow and the other was watching the front of the bakery. Usually using scraps, because Peeta detests wasting food, but always delicious nonetheless.
The best innocent surprise, I should say.
Today was an especially slow day. Rain pounding down in District 12, making the roads thick with mud. It's a blessing for the hot ovens that fight against the cold seeping through the front windows. Although they're helping me more than Peeta, who's up front perched at the counter, insistent as always that someone needs to be watching the shop. "We won't hear the bell over the rain," he'd said.
I knew better than that. There were tells when Peeta wanted a surprise. He'd never just ask for something, always fearing rejection. Of course the minute I opened my mouth he was ready to do whatever I had even intrusively dreamed of so long as it meant love and praise. But to ask for himself? It's a whole different matter. So when he is insistent I work alone in the back, I understand that this is his own silent way of asking for some sort of surprise. And with the way his broad shoulders look in that pale yellow knit sweater, who am I to deny him?
I'm not one to deny him anything, quite frankly.
The best surprises of all are when we sneak up behind the other, always starting so innocently. Maybe while one of us is baking, maybe while one of us is simply dressing. With the quick slip of a hand, it doesn't take long before the other is panting and begging for release. Not that we always give it to each other.
Peeta liked sneaking up on me in private. Usually when I was in the back baking.
"What are you working on?" He'd usually ask.
"Custom order," I may answer with a smile. He liked my smiles, always said so.
"What are the details?" He'd ask. He'd put his hands on my lower back, rubbing soft enough to not disturb me while still working out some knots.
Then I'd prattle off details. This one is for so-and-so down on whatever-street-or-corner, they'd like a cake.
"For the Harvest Festival?" He'd ask. I'd nod, still focused on my task. "How many orders do we have for the Festival?"
"A good bit, it's our busiest time," I'd always say with a bright, soft tone to my voice. He'd chuckle, placing a small kiss on the back of my neck and pressing his hips against mine from behind, usually revealing his hard on.
"So, how many orders this year?" He'd ask. His hands would work at a knot, his breath hot on my neck, and his hips would roll ever so slowly against mine, taking his time to build both of us up.
"Ah, I think- I think 12?" I'd say, trying to focus on both him and whatever I was making. Cake. Right. Stir.
"12?" He'd ask. His cock would be deliciously hard, grinding against my clothed cunt just a bit harder as his hands would return to my hips, steadying me against him. "That's pretty good."
"Double digits," I'd say brightly, my voice breathy as I struggle more to focus. Cake. Stir. Hands, not hips.
But I'd always do hips instead, leaning back and tilting my head ever so slightly so he can see my enjoyment.
"You need to stir," Peeta would gently guide in my ear. My back would press against his front, his chin now resting on my shoulder.
"I know," I'd say softly. I didn't know shit.
He'd chuckle, one hand slipping to my front to cup one of my breasts.
"Need to get those orders out," he'd remind me. "You always seem so stressed about being on time."
"One of us has to be," I'd say. His hand on my hip would find the band of my pants, slipping past them and teasing me, sliding his fingers against my wet folds.
"Pick up the whisk," he'd instruct. My hands would shake as they obeyed, moving from being splayed across the marble counter to resume my task.
"Stir slowly," he'd say. His large fingers would slip over my entrance, coating himself in the thick lube now dripping from me. "You want to make sure the texture's correct."
It took such mental energy to balance the two things. Especially when he would finally sink in his middle finger, always going knuckle deep and twirling it around inside of me, making sure to leave no spot untouched. His other hand would pinch and pull at my breast, giving special care to make his fingers replicate the feeling of his soft lips wrapped around my sensitive nipples.
"What's the next order?" He'd ask. I could feel myself dripping down his hand, and I knew he loved this. Peeta would do whatever he could to make sure I was wet, even when he wouldn't go any further than simple teasing. I think he liked the idea of me always being ready. Not that he would assume. He always started out slow, and if I ever said no it was never a big deal. He'd simply continue talking to me and go on with his day perfectly fine. But if I was willing, he'd always massage or do whatever until he could feel my arousal himself. I think it's why he likes eating out best. Especially when I'd talk him through it, usually promising to cum down his throat while tugging his soft blond hair. His eyes would grow wide and soft at that, his whimpers increasing as he'd fuck me quicker with his tongue, grinding himself against whatever. It was a beautiful mess he'd turn himself into, desperate and begging silently as he clutched my hips.
"The what?" I'd ask breathlessly. I was tight around him, focused on how slow and sweet he was pumping in and out, twirling and wiggling his finger inside of me. His other hand slipping under my shirt, and his lips sucking gently at my neck, careful not to leave bruises.
"The orders, sweetheart," he'd gently remind me. "What's the next one?"
My lips would part, eyes fluttering shut as I tried to remember. His middle finger would pump out and then pump back in with the addition of his pointer finger, tearing a soft moan from my throat.
"Shh," he'd gently whisper. "We're at work."
He liked this little game. Ramping me up, forcing me to behave a certain way so to not tip off customers. If Peeta wouldn't immediately be arrested for it, something tells me he'd simply fuck me in the front room, bent over the register counter during business hours and just act like it's a normal thing. Such a sweet boy.
"I- ah- need to look at the book," I'd say. He'd roll my nipple between his two fingers, his other two fingers pumping slightly faster as his lips suck at the spot just under my ear.
"You have such a good memory though," he'd say. "You can remember. Just think."
That's a lie. I have a horrible memory and we both know it. But if I say I can't, he'll pull away. Sweet and gentle, he'll go get the book and place a million kisses on my cheek before leaving me to my work and dizziness.
Next order. Next order. That's easy. It's a tart with cream on top. Cream. God, I'd like his cock in my mouth right now.
"Next order. Come on, pretty girl. I know you know it," he'd softly encourage.
"I know it," I'd moan, my head tilted back and resting on his shoulder, fucking his fingers instead of working on the cake. He feels so good, so warm and protecting. Simply smelling the traces of dill and cinnamon baked into his skin made my mind shut off, my eyes growing tired from the feeling of safety.
"I know you know it," he'd say so sweetly. "You're smart, pretty. And you've got a delicious cunt I'd love to fuck over and over if I could," he'd say softly, placing warm kisses on my neck between each point. I was panting openly now, squeezing my eyes shut as I tried desperately to remember who ordered what.
His fingers curled inside of me, making rapid 'come hither' motions fast enough to steal a soft, sudden cry fron my lips. Peetas mouth found mine, swallowing my moans and giving me some of his own.
"I may have to count down, sweet girl," he'd warn me. His fingers had found my g spot, hitting and rubbing it at rapid speed. The cuff of his sweater is soaked from me, his hand sticky and coated. I shake my head quickly, moaning and gripping the counter as best I could to keep myself standing.
"I can remember," I whimpered. Peeta laughed softly.
"I know you can, sweet girl. But look at you, you're a total mess." His voice is sweet and kind, his eyes taking in my current state. "I can't have you all dumb back here during work hours."
He's sweet but he's cruel. God, he's cruel!
"I think there's berries in it," I stammered.
"Ten," he's start patiently, his teeth tugging at my earlobe.
"N-no, wait! There's- There's berries and there's..." I'm completely making this up. I have no clue what's next.
"Nine," he continued, knowing this.
"That's not fair, you started low on purpose!" I whined.
"Eight." He wouldn't argue. I was right.
"It's got- got cottage cheese frosting." I'm so close, so awfully close. I can feel myself clenching around him rapidly, my pussy swallowing his fingers quicker and quicker as I climbed closer towards the edge.
"Seven." Oh, God. This motherfucker.
"Six. Come on, good girl. You can do this," he'd encourage sweetly, kissing my cheek and trailing to my collarbone with said kisses.
"They wanted flowers on the top. Violets, I remember that!" That detail is actually true, surprisingly. The candy violets were always easy to remember because I loved them so much.
"Five." His other hand kneeded my breast, admiring the soft flesh and running his thumb over my stiff, aching nipple repeatedly. "Four."
"You're speeding up," I whined. "This isn't fair."
He let out a soft 'aw,' apologizing and speeding his hands to bring me closer to the edge.
"If you can come before one, I'll fuck you right here," he promised. "You can come before one, can't you?"
I nodded stupidly, moaning and panting as I sped up my hips, slamming down on his hand repeatedly. Cake details be damned, this is my mission now.
"Three." I'm so impossibly close.
"Two."
"Wait a minute, slow down-"
"One."
With one final, cruel, hard thrust of his hand he slips away, leaving me to almost crumple to the ground and opening my eyes to blink stupidly, trying to process what just happened.
"You okay?" He asked softly, his dry hand cupping my cheek and looking at me carefully with his sweet, hazel eyes.
A long, soft whine escaped me, batting my lashes as I lean against him and whisper as many 'please's as I can, pressing a dozen kisses all over him. He laughed softly, returning the kisses with whispered 'I love you's.
"Let me go get that book," he'd said. And that was that until that evening when he made up for it like he always did.
Now I was carefully removing a tiny apple pie made from leftovers meant specifically for Peeta. The rain was as bad as ever as I entered the front room, Peeta leaning on the palm of his hand while he struggled not to doze off. His long lashes flutter softly, his lips pressing against each other and his jaw a bit tight.
"Hi sleepyhead," I whisper, sneaking up behind him. He started a little, turning to look at me with the sweetest smile he has.
"Hi," he says cheerily, his voice just a touch gravely. His eyes glance down to the small treat in my hands, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Is that for me?"
"Of course it is," I say, placing it in front of him. "Figured you could use something to warm you up. It's freezing up here."
He chuckles. "It's not that cold," he says as he picks up the fork I'd placed next to the tiny pie and began scooping some up.
"Liar," I teased. "You're shivering."
He shifts in his seat slightly. "Not from that," he says, a small blush growing on his cheeks. He takes the first bite, then another, smiling and leaning his head against my shoulder.
"Thank you, dear," he says softly. He leans in for a kiss to which I happily oblige, cupping his jaw with my left hand. His lips taste sweet, the sticky apple and cinnamon tasting delicious on him. I swipe my tongue across his lips, stealing a soft moan from him as he allows my tongue access to his mouth, melting in my hands. His hand dropped the fork, accidently missing the pan and instead hitting the counter, but neither of us care. His hand comes up to the back of my neck, pulling me closer to silently ask me for more.
My other hand trails down to his lap, finding one of his hands already there, palming his stiff, clothed cock through his pants.
"Is this what you were doing when I came up?" I ask softly, pulling away from the kiss only a bit. He chases me, biting at my bottom lip to drag me back to him. That's a yes, then.
My tongue explores his warm mouth, tasting him while my hand traces the outline of his dick, pressing and flicking against the tip. He whines, bucking softly into my hand, desperate for more.
"Can you stay quiet?" I ask him, pulling away again. This time my hand on the back of his neck grabs his golden locks, holding him still as I look into his eyes. His cheeks are red as well as his lips, kiss swollen and damp. His breathing is heavy, his eyes blown out. Barely touched and already a beautiful mess.
"Huh?" He asks, his voice higher than usual as he tries to focus. His hand grasping my wrist, making sure to keep my hand where he can buck against it.
"If I asked you to, would you stay quiet?" I repeat gently, teasing him with kisses by leaning forward and pulling away. We both liked this.
"Yes," he said quickly. "Anything."
"Anything?" I ask, raising my brows.
"Anything."
Alright.
I press a quick, admittedly sloppy kiss to his lips once more before dropping to my knees and slipping under the counter. His brows furrow in confusion before he realizes what I'm doing.
"You can't!" He whispers frantically. "What if someone walks in?"
"That's why I asked if you could stay quiet," I say patiently. "Can you?"
He bites his lip, obviously unsure. His eyes dart between me and the shop door, thinking.
"We can wait," I offer genuinely. This seems to be the deciding factor.
"I'll be quiet," he promises eagerly. "I've got a pie I can shove in my mouth if I can't, right?" He jokes, his smile crooked and eager as his hands work quickly to begin freeing himself. He's excited alright.
"Right," I say, taking his hands away and undoing the buttons on his pants myself. "Just keep watch of the shop, alright sweet boy?" He nods, placing his arms on the counter and trying to resume his position.
I slip his cock from the confines of his clothes, pressing a soft wet kiss to the underside along a thick vein. A quiet whine escapes him, his hand covering his mouth. I'm not truly worried about him being quiet, no one is going to come in here during such bad weather. It's just an edge to help work him into a frenzy, knowing full well he never stays quiet. I'd thought I was vocal when we started our relationship, but Peeta easily takes the cake.
His cock is warm, half hard against my lips that trail his veins. My tongue slides from his tip to his base, barely any pressure on his skin. Grazing always works best to start out with. When I reach his base I lap at his skin, blowing soft, cold air against the wet spots to make him squirm in his chair. I focus on his base for a while, sucking, licking, blowing. Ever so gently I even bite just the tiniest bit, enough for him to notice the edges of my teeth along his red, pulsing cock. His voice is soft, panting quietly.
My tongue trails slowly up his cock, exploring different ridges and spots that make him whimper quietly, working my way back to his tip which is soaked with thick, warm precum. I wrap my lips around him, swiping the moisture away with my tongue in one round sweep. I relish in the cry it tears from his throat, the dozen little apologies he whimpers immediately after. His hand covers his mouth, and the other trails down to gently cup the back of my head. I smile around him, swirling my spit around his tip as I suck gently, pressing my tongue against the underside of his dick.
His fingers play with my hair, unintentionally tugging it and apologizing as he does. I simply squeeze his thighs and begin lowering myself, taking him until his tip hits the back of my throat, taking deep, even breaths to fight off the gags that threaten to escape me.
It's when my nose buries in his soft, curly hair at his base that the bell of the front door rings.
"Hi!" Peeta says a little too quickly, a little too brightly. "Welcome to Mellarks Bakery. How may we- I help you today?"
I'm frozen, his hand gripping my hair out of anxiety. If I pull away, we'll be done. If I stay here, Peeta may very well have to make good on his promise.
Although, acting has never been a challenge for him, has it?
The customer is describing a custom tart she wants made, then pulling out a long list and prattling about this, that, and the other thing. Her accent clearly shows her as a Capitol transfer, and these orders always take forever given that they still have a hard time releasing the concept of not over indulging. But this time I don't plan on complaining.
My tongue begins to move slowly, rubbing carefully along the bottom of his cock while I watch his face carefully. He's smiling at the woman who's still going down the list, his eyes glancing at me to confirm this is what we're doing. With a small nod from me, his hand casually covers his mouth once more and he resumes focus on the woman, his other hand now guiding my head slowly, carefully.
He pulls me to the tip of his dick, working me back and forth slowly on just that spot. My tongue works quickly, my lips wrapping around him tightly to help create proper suction around him while I suck.
"Do you have pumpkin?" The woman asks.
"W- what?" Peeta asks, clearing his throat. "Oh, pumpkin. I'll admit I'm running a little low, it's been a popular request since we don't grow them locally. I've requested more but I don't know if they'll be in in time, so if you want something that uses it you'll have to get it-" his voice cracks as I deepthroat him again, swallowing around him quickly before returning myself to his tip. He clears his throat. "You'll have to reserve it right now," he finishes. I can see him quickly scoop up some of the pie, shoving it in his mouth and trying to hide his blush. It's lucky for us how oblivious Capitol born citizens are.
His hand guides me faster, focusing on fucking his tip near the back of my throat since we both know full well how hitting the back of my throat isn't an option. We can't risk any noise gagging may cause since it may not be covered up by the soft music playing on the shop speakers, a gift from Beetee for the reopening.
His pace is fast, faster than it should be. He's close, smiling at the woman and acting as though everything is normal. His large vein throbs, precum spilling out of him with each new thrust into my mouth. My hand reaches to press two digits against the soft spot behind his balls, a sensitive spot that makes him cry and squirm.
His jaw tightens as I do this, his eyes darting down daggers quickly. I can hear coins on the counter, Peeta accepting the list and opening the register. With the loud 'clank' springing forth from the older device, he takes the chance to slam my face down fully on his cock, his fingers making the coins loudly shift around as he gives the customer her change. Tears spring to my eyes from the sudden force, swallowing around him as I focus on my breathing to recover. He promises the woman he'll do what he can and wishes her a good day, and she coos sweetly. She reaches across the counter, patting his cheek and calling him a sweet boy before turning and walking out of the bakery, the bell chiming at her exit.
Peeta looks down at me, smiling brightly. "Hi," he says with a newfound excitement.
I moan around his cock. He gets it.
"You okay?" He asks, his hands moving to cup my cheeks. I make an affirming noise, trying to smile. "I wasn't too rough, was I?" He asks, his thumbs swiping away the small tears dangling from my bottom lashes. I shake my head, swallowing around him. He moans softly, his grip tightening.
"Yeah, I kinda forgot you like it when I am, don't you?" He asks, beginning to slowly pump his dick in and out of the back of my throat. I moan happily, taking him as easily as I can.
"You know how hard it was not coming down your throat with that lady in here?" He asks. "I had to edge myself so that it wouldn't become known how much I like fucking your throat."
My cunt throbs at his words, his closeness making him willing to be more rough. He starts fucking my face in earnest, tearing noises from both of our throats as he loses himself.
"Can't do that again," he pants. "Next time I'm just taking you. I don't care who walks in." He's moaning openly now, his cock abusing me. I can feel him throbbing, twitching. There's enough precum it's all I can do to focus on swallowing and breathing.
"Show this whole District how much I love you," he babbles. "I'll eat you out on this fucking counter, I don't give a fuck."
I press my heel against my clit, grinding into it to relieve some friction as my hands steady my body against his thighs. The chair underneath of him creeks horribly. If anyone walked in now, I don't even think we'd have a small second to hide what we're doing.
"I love your fucking pussy," he rambles, his eyes beginning to flutter shut. "Love your fucking mouth. You take me so well. So eagerly."
I moan around him, spit dribbling from my mouth, hair stuck to my face. His balls slam against my chin, his wet curls pressing against my nose as he face fucks me like a rabid animal.
"I'm gonna cum down your throat," he announces. "Then you're gonna cum down mine. Again," thrust. "And again," thrust. "Until we don't even have to make dinner from how full we'll be." Goddamn, he's close.
His hands are rough, gripping my face. "Rub your tongue harder," he commands. I do, putting as much pressure as I can on his throbbing vein. He moans loudly, leaning forward and clutching my head.
"I'm coming," he pants, his voice high and tired. "Fuck, I'm coming-!"
His warm, thick load shoots down my throat, filling my mouth so much I cant breathe if I want to swallow it all.
"Such a sweet girl," he praises. "So sweet and good, eager to make me cum." His face is pressed against the cool counter, his chest heaving as he recovers his breath. His thumbs stroke my cheeks at different paces, small whimpers escaping him as I milk him dry with my mouth, making sure not a drop is left behind. When he's fully softened, I place a small kiss on his tip before tucking him back in, rebuttoning his clothes and patting his thighs one more time.
It takes a moment for me to rise, my joints stiff and my mind scrambled from the abuse it had just suffered. I stumble a little as I stand, Peeta's weak arms collecting my body and bringing me into a warm embrace.
"You're wonderful," he whispers, resting his head against my chest. I chuckle softly, placing a soft kiss on the top of his messy hair.
"So are you," I say.
He looks up at me, flushed and smiling at me with the most wonderful, lazy look on his face.
"Your turn," he says, finding a new wave of surprising strength and placing me on the counter.
"Peeta, we're still open," I giggle, batting his hands away.
"I know," he says. "Did you think I was joking?"
He stares at me, smiling and eager as he begins to part my legs.
This is going to be a long night.

Note
(This me rambling, feel free to ignore and lesson 16 spoilers! ^^; hi hello btw!)
I wanna see MC sometimes staying at Purgatory Hall and the Demon Lord's Castle more often as an escape to truly relax and maybe see the brothers try to overcome some of their struggles in their own, even if it's just a bit, if not for them, then for MC who has done so much, maybe even too much, for them, y'know?
Lesson 16 was quite the turning point, but not a lot of things changed. I wanna see before and afters with everyone. I wanna see angst where everyone is trying to be normal (maybe because MC is trying to be normal), but when the slightest thing goes wrong, they all flinch to shield MC or something. The smallest smell of vlood after chopping up food for dinner? Flashback to lesson 16. MC being too cold? Mammon flashes back. Belphie standing over MC (holding blankets or just so happen to be there for some reason)? Levi is holding his breath.
But at the same time, i want to see MC flinch from Lucifer. Before Belphie, Lucifer was going to hurt MC or worse, and he did it the most and has succeeded in hurting MC the most out of the brothers. I want to see MC hold their breath anytime he gets angry but is completely calm with Satan. I wanna see MC's shoulders tense while helping with paperwork alone with him but be completely fine with doing the same with Diavolo. I wanna see Mammon acting as like a bridge between the two.
Everyone is so creative on how they write lesson 16 but i don't see a lot of "after the lesson" ones. I always wondered, if their MC went through that (assuming if they made ir canon in their MC's story), what changed, if at all?
Phantom Pain
First oneshot of Scars, Wounds and Minor Inconveniences: a oneshot series featuring slice-of-life snapshots of the aftermath of Lesson 16. Naturally, features spoilers for OG Obey Me! up until that point. Each oneshot will have an associated headcannons post, which will be linked when it goes up!
(thank you to @kittylilyheart for inspiring what will now be a oneshot series dedicated to everyday life in the aftermath of lesson 16, because there's just so many characters in this series with so many things you can write for each. they gave so many interesting examples in their submitted idea; so I'll be including some and incorporating my own. If you have an idea for something related to Obey Me! or Obey Me! Nightbringer that you'd like me to put to writing, please read the rules pinned to this blog before submitting to the blog's inbox!)
_
It’s like pins and needles, starting at your neck and running down your back. Mammon sees you arch your back oddly as you go to knock on the door to the Demon Lord’s castle; and immediately knows.
“Hey, hey.” He says as he bumps his shoulder into yours, fingers touching your sleeve. Even though he’s seen this a bunch of times, he never really knows what to do. “Ya, uh. Ya got the needles-thing again?”
“Yeah. Ugh, why now?” You groan through gritted teeth, waiting for the feeling to subside. Both you and Mammon were used to this, episodes happening every now and then. Temporary bouts of phantom pain down your back and sides, where arms had hugged you and…
Dwelling wouldnt help. And besides; they barely inconvenienced you. You sat down and pressed your back against a nearby wall.
“Don’t do that. What are ya doin’?”
“It feels better when I put my back against something hard and flat.” You state matter-of-factly, never breaking eye contact as you slowly slide down. He looks more confused. You grin. "As long as Beel hasn't got his fifth dinner on it, the kitchen table is nice, too."
“Weird humans…” Mammon mutters disapprovingly, but he sits beside you to wait it out. His head flops to one side, cheek resting on your head, as he makes the ever-so-cliché show of pretending to stretch his arm above his head, over yours… and, eventually, around your shoulders. You snort as his fingers fidget, figuring he just doesn’t know where to place them. They first settle on your chest, lingering over where your heart beats. Then, they scurry up to your collarbone and settle on your pulse point. He presses around a little, as if searching. Then, with a satisfied hum, he leans back against the wall, too.
“I think it’s going away, now. Mams. Hey, Mams.” You shake his arm a few minutes later. He blushes at your willing contact (as if he hadn’t been holding you close this whole time) and the cutesy nickname, but shuffles back to give you space to stand. Though not before checking your back first, touching the back of his hand to the skin between your shoulder blades, which your outfit exposes. Because you’d been leaning on a metal wall, your skin is cold.
He freezes. Your skin, cold. Your lips, not breathing. The slight red from where his hand had pressed against you has a slightly red flush. Red - red, just like it had been when -
He makes a show of dusting off your shoulders, one hand curling its fingers just enough to press a little more around your neck pulse point.
He hums again, satisfied. Then, the sheer amount of touching you that he’s done today hits him - and he turns his head to the side with a not-so-subtle cough.
“Y-Yeah, okay. Good. Let’s knock, then.” Mammon straightens and flashes you one of his signature grins. You notice it wobbles a little, but you attribute that to the adorably-dramatic cough he was forcing out of his throat just moments earlier. “If we get back late, Lucifer’ll think we’re slackin.”
“We can’t stay longer? Lord Diavolo said in his letter that I can work at the castle for as long as I like.” You pout. Secretly, your heartbeat gets a little faster; you swore you read the letter correctly. You look at Mammon hopefully, avoiding looking at the path behind you; which was starting to look awfully short. “I thought we were getting back after Lucifer goes out tonight.”
Mammon raises an eyebrow. “Ya wanna stay that long? It’s dangerous out. It’s safer with Lucifer around. ” He protests worriedly - but catches himself quickly. “W-Well. Not that I can’t protect ya… But everyone’s at home, too! The more people around, the better the protectin'!”
“Mammon -”
“Mammon is probably right, MC." Suddenly, you hear a voice behind you. "Though, I admit - I hadn't thought about that when I wrote the letter requesting your visit.”
The two of you jump. You and Mammon immediately find each others’ hands, and whip around to face the source of the voice. Mammon is already stepping forward, stretching his arm in front of you protectively... when he sees who it is.
“Lord… Geez, Lord Diavolo. Barbatos.” He nervously chuckles, stepping back. “We were literally just about to knock. Warn a guy next time, why don’t’cha?”
“No worries, Mammon. Sorry for startling you.” Diavolo offers apologetically. He nods in acknowledgement to you. “Hello there, MC. Lucifer may worry too much if he doesn’t see you before leaving the House, so it may be best for him to see you’re safe and sound, first.”
You look up slowly at the Crown Prince of the Devildom. The prince’s demon butler stands just behind his liege, almost blending into the shadows. They look so… tall. So towering. You don’t register the words that come out of your mouth.
“Oh, u-uh. Okay, then. I’ll help with some RAD event planning, then leave. early”
Mammon gives you a look, shuffling closer and bumping his shoulder into yours, again. “Oi, human, are you sure? I thought earlier you said -”
“I’ll do what Lord Diavolo, said. It’s probably for a reason.” You reply nonchalantly as Barbatos steps forward and unlocks the front door. You can see the hallway as it creaks open and it’s dark. It reminds you of a room you had woken up in when you were pulled from your home with no warning. It reminds you of winding stairs that had lead up to an attic, with a shadowy figure waiting behind a locked door. It was the home of two people who, try as you might, you could never, ever say no to.
Was it fear? You didn’t think so, you could talk to them pretty easily. Agree with them, easily.
Was it hatred? Not that either. You knew Mammon appreciates them for their part in saving you, so you guess you do, too.
You think of the phantom pain from earlier, then think that the darkness of the castle hallway looks a lot more inviting than dwelling on painful memories and difficult questions. So you let your feet follow Diavolo and Barbatos into the castle, laughing when Diavolo fondly tussles Mammon’s hair and enthusiastically piping up with ideas when Barbatos lists off the upcoming events to be held by the student council at RAD.
Mammon does hang back a little at first, though; wondering why you disapproved of his idea when he said it - but then agreed so readily when Diavolo did. But Diavolo did help you with the whole Belphie situation. And he was grateful Diavolo had you brought to the Devildom at all. So he follows you and thinks nothing of it.
And you follow Barbatos and Diavolo. Listening to their every word, like it was instinct. Like you didn’t really have a choice. Just like you didn't have when they had saved you.
Just like you had no choice when they had first brought you here.
(first chapter of the blog's very first series! this was pretty interesting and challenging to write as i really didn't want anything sad or angsty; just the same tone as my other slice-of-life stuff but with little pangs of hurt from the habits that the characters pick up after the belphie incident. i'd like to think that mc and the obm cast actually do recover pretty quickly from lesson 16, but not for the reason of forgiving each other easily, which i'll get to in later chapters. in this case, mc gets along well with dia and barb out of trust for them saving them, but also because they've always taken the reigns on their fate anyway.)

"Snow is watching us." Haymitch says, we're almost at the Capitol for the final interview and the big celebration.
"Of course, he is. He needs to watch everything. Especially the inconveniences," I scoff.
"Yeah. And if he wants you to pacify the districts, I promise you, he's not happy." Haymitch continues, "instead of being in love, you two sounds like you're reading from a drilling manual."
"You try reading that stuff that Effie writes us," Peeta mutters.
"Snow doesn't care." I tell him. "That's not how you want to convince him."
"I'm open to suggestions," he says back, tired.
"We could get married," Katniss quietly suggests, not looking up at anyone.
"That's not helping," Haymitch comments.
"I'm serious. If, like you said we're on this train forever, it's gonna happen eventually. Why not now?"
"It does make a statement. I'll give you that." Haymitch then looks at Peeta who agrees, but quickly stands up and leave. Katniss looks at me.
"It's something we can try, you're right... they would want it to happen eventually." I shrug.
"It's settle, then." Haymitch drinks to that and Katniss looks at me with hope.
---------------
"Are you sure you don't want to come to the party?" I ask Haymitch before I have to leave for Snow's residence. "Lots of free alcohol."
"I don't need free alcohol." He chuckles amused, "I'm a victor. I already got that."
"Don't you want to save a damsel in distress?" I try again.
"Our president seems very well guarded on his own," Haymitch jokes, "he's safe."
I genuinely laugh at that shaking my head.
"See? I need that! Please?" I try to beg just one more time.
"Don't send me that look, Princess." He turns his head away ready to walk away.
"Fine, fine... I tried." I raise my hands up in surrender. "Wish me luck, at least. "
"Maybe they'll leave you alone tonight, too interested in the two lovers," he sadly smiles at me, hoping, rather than believing, his own words to be true.
"Yeah, maybe," I take a deep breath, "well... have a goodnight, Haymitch."
"You too, princess." He winks, "and eyes open."
------------
The party is just as exaggerated as ever. Lots of people, lots of food and drinks and lots of lights.
I make my way through the crowd, towards the tables full of food and drinks, hoping to find something to make this evening more tolerable. I take a glass and take a sip, breathing deeply.
Some people come to talk to me, about the victors, thankfully.
"Two victors, exciting, uh?" One of the them says cheerfully.
"Very," I say with my usual forced smile.
"You must be proud, two victors on your turn on 12," a woman with very voluminous hair nudges me, "you were the talk of the town these past few days, you know?"
"Me?" I ask, surprised by that, usually everyone forgets about me during the victory tour.
"Oh yes, well beside the lovebirds." A green haired man chimes in.
"Why?" I start to get anxious, the necklaces feel a lot tighter than before.
"I heard a rumour... someone wants to put a ring on your finger," she whisper-exclaims with a wink.
"W-what?... I don't think... uh..." I stutter.
"C'mon, everyone knows you're Cal Kingslay's favourite." She teases, with a devilish smirk, "and it's rumored that he wants you all to himself."
"Isn't that wonderful?" The man cheers. "We could probably get two well awaited weddings this year!"
"I hope I didn't ruin the surprise." The woman adds, with, what I'm sure is, a fake apologetic smile.
"Of course not. Now would you excuse me, gotta wait for my Victors." I say turning around to walk as far as possible from them, I finish my drink in one go and soon take another glass. Thankfully it's announced the arrival of Katniss and Peeta.
I spot them walking through the crowd following Effie and heading to Flavius and Octavia so I quickly join them.
As they see me arrive they immediately smile, relieved.
"There you are," I say holding my hands out for them to hold, "I've missed you,"
All for the cameras.
"It's only been 30 minutes," Peeta plays along.
"And you can stay that long away from me?" I fake offence, "You wound me,"
Everyone around us laugh so I just decide to stick with them as long as I can.
Helping them play along is much easier than expected, especially with Peeta, Katniss is still a little uncertain, but I get her, it got me years and years to get used to the cameras.
After I unfortunately finish my fourth glass, I need another one, in order to survive this evening.
"Excuse me a second," I whisper at them and head to the other side of the room where I can get another glass of Whiskey.
I turn around to go back to Katniss and Peeta when I'm met with a firm chest.
Unfortunately I already know who this might be.
"Found you" Cal teases.
I look up at him, the blue in his hair is even stronger than I remembered, and a little longer too, he got bigger, more muscles for sure, eyes just as devilish.
"That you did," I try to mask my fear with a chuckle.
"I've missed you, you know, been looking everywhere for you since I got here," he says with a sweet tone, that only makes my skin crawl. He grabs my hand to play with my fingers.
"I've been here the whole time, chatting with the Victors you know," I take my hand back, "I should get back to them, exc-"
"They got you all this time," he stops me from walking away, "it's not the same without you."
"I..." I want to say something, but nothing comes out.
"I mean, it's fun and all with Finnick, but with you..." he lets out a big dreamy sigh, "with you it's so much better"
He says the last part leaning in, close enough to suffocate me.
"Excuse me?"
We both turn and see Peeta standing there.
"Peeta!" I say, both surprised and relieved, "Peeta, uh.. this is Cal Kingslay, his father was once the general himself"
"Nice to meet you, sir," Peeta extends his hand and Cal grabs it and shakes it.
"The pleasure is all mine, Mr Mellark," Cal greets him, he's tense though, he doesn't like being interrupted.
"Uh... Peeta, where's Katniss?" I ask to change the subject.
"She's dancing with the new Head Gamemaker," he explains simply, "but I still wanted to dance so I thought to ask you, if you're free."
"Oh, but of course," I say holding out my hand for him.
"But..." Cal starts.
"Oh, c'mon, he's our new victor, we can't say no to him, now can we?"
"Of course not," Cal says with a very evident forced smile.
That being said, me and Peeta go dance with the other people, I even spot Katniss with said New head Gamemaker.
"Thank you," I breathlessly say as we start dancing.
"You're welcome, you looked like you needed saving," he says with his kind smile, "who is he?"
"A fan" I simply say, "a very... uh... insisting one"
"I see," he nods.
"Thanks again, really."
"Don't worry about it." He laugh, "I mean, you helped saving me in that arena, this is nothing."
It's actually a lot more than he thinks.
I smile at him, grateful.
I then feel a slight tap on my shoulder, I turn around seeing Katnis and the Gamemaker.
"Mind changing partners?" He asks politely.
"Sure."
Me and Katniss exchange spots.
"It's an honour," he says once we're dancing.
"That honour would be the same if I knew your name sir," I tease.
"Oh, my bad, I apologise." He chuckles, amused, "I'm Plutarch Heavensbee,"
"Now the honour is mine," I say, "new head Gamemaker... when did they choose you?"
"Oh, I volunteer," he simply explains.
"Oh..." I let out a surprised laugh, "I see Katniss is already dictating fashion."
"Yeah, she's an inspiration, don't you think?" He says it almost as a challenge.
"I do," I answer seriously. "There must be more then... why volunteer?"
"I think it's time for the game to mean something," he shrugs and smiles.
"Mean something?" I wonder, "that's pretentious,"
"A little," he chuckles again, "so I'd keep those eyes open, if I were you."
My eyes snap back at his face, he's smiling, proud of himself.
Why? Does he know something? Does Haymitch know something?
Before I get the chance to ask him anything, the Capitol anthem starts and the crowd cheers.
"I'm sure we'll meet again," he says before following the rest of the people out for President Snow's speech.
I'm a little stunned, it's Effie's call that snaps me out of it. I quickly join her, Katniss and Peeta out.
We all gather in front of the residence, waiting for the President Snow to come out. I turn around looking for Cal, only to make sure he doesn't sneak up on me again. I see him looking around, for me probably, so I quickly turn around getting closer to Katniss.
At last the President comes out on his balcony.
"Tonight, on this, the last day of their tour, I want to welcome our two Victors." He starts with his usual charming persona, two young people who embody our idealsof strength and valor. And I, personally, want to congratulate them on the announcement of their engagement."
Everyone cheers. Peeta and Katniss smile at the crowd around them.
"Your love has inspired us. And I know it will go on inspiring us every day for as long as you may live." He holds up his glass and the fireworks start and I turn around to look at them like everyone.
I sense Katniss holding my hand and turning around. I want to look at Snow too, but the way she starts to squeeze my hand tells me all I need to know...
He doesn't believe them.
It didn't work.
---------------
I'm sitting in an armchair staring at nothing in particular. My mind can't help but think about whatever we can do to make their story more believable, but nothing, absolutely nothing comes up.
The riots in the districts surely won't make him happy, which means it will be worse for everyone else.
Fuck.
My head snaps back as I hear footsteps coming, I let out a sigh when I notice it's just Katniss.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you," she apologises.
"Don't worry about it," I wave her off, "can't sleep either?"
She shakes her head, I motion for her to sit with me.
"Do you think we ever had any chance?" She then asks me.
"I guess, the positive side of me really hoped... but the realistic side knew." I sigh, looking down at my own hands, "I'm afraid it was too late from the beginning. And I don't mean from what happen in 11... I mean from the moment you took out the berries, that made the districts feel something, these riots all over the place won't be pacify by a love story. Snow knows that."
"He asked me to convince him," she explains, "to convince him ours is true love."
"He never believed you." I directly say, "not for a second."
"Why ask me that then?"
"Control." I simply answer looking up at her with a serious expression. "Show you he has control."
"How did you end up living like this?" She asks, she seems genuinely interested, but I'm not ready to share that part of my life with her just yet.
I smile at her, a smile that doesn't reach my eye.
"Aw... Katniss, I thought you knew the difference between living" I turn serious again, looking her dead in the eyes," and surviving."
With that I stand up, grab a bottle of what I think is rum, and head to my room.
-----------
I stand by the doors waiting for Peeta, Katniss and Haymitch to get off the train. The thought of going back to normal is dreadful enough, going back alone is even worse, I don't want to think about it.
"Home sweet home," Haymitch declares as he nears.
"Don't be so eager to leave me," I joke, holding my hand out for him to shake, he takes and kiss the back of it.
"You know, it pains me deeply," he teases back and I chuckle.
"Take care of them, will you?" I ask quietly.
"You take care of yourself, will you?" He lets go of my hand and leans down to whisper into my ear, "and eyes open" He smiles one more time before getting of the train.
"You'll have to explain that to me properly one of these days," I tell him as I watch him go.
"Isn't his whole character just... cryptic?" I turn around seeing Peeta and Katniss.
"Or just constantly drunk." Katniss chimes in.
"He's cryptically drunk all the time," I smile, "so... you got everything?"
"Yeah, we're ready to get home." Peeta smile back at me.
"Good... Good." I let out a deep sigh, "it's been a pleasure assisting you two. I guess I'll see you at the next Hunger Games, mentors."
"Thank you for everything, Y/n." Peeta pulls me in for a quick hug before walking away.
"Bye," I wave then turn to Katniss, "you okay?"
"Yeah... I think so." She forces a small smile.
"I wish I could do more," I tell her honestly.
"Thanks,"
"Say hi to your family for me, alright?" I smile again and she nods.
Once Katniss is out of sight a Peacekeeper comes up to me.
"Yes?" I ask.
"Your presence has been requested back in the Capitol. We'll be leaving soon." He tells me.
"May I know who requested it?" I ask, tired. I already imagine who-
"President Snow."
Uh?
"Did he say why?"
The peacekeeper doesn't answer and walks away. I stand here dumbfounded, wondering what he might want from me.
Is it because of Katniss and Peeta?
Is it because of the riots in the districts?
Is it because of the Quartel Quell? Does he wants me to be more participant or?
Then a terrifying thought comes to mind...
------------
"You asked for me, sir?" I stand in front of his desk as he write something down.
"It came to my attention a rumour's veen going around regarding you, miss L/n." He starts, still not looking directly at me, "a merry one."
"Sir?" I ask, my throat instantly dry.
"Cal Kingslay apparently wants to marry you," he finally puts down the pen and looks at me with, what might seem, a genuinely happy expression, "That's a wonderful news."
"Is it?" I don't know what he wants from me.
"Oh yes, the people can't help but be thrilled about. the idea. I, myself, think it's great news. After the contributions the Kingslays gave to the games in these last years, it will show, not only to the Capitol, but the districts as well, that you are an active part of this system." He explains, the hint of a challenge in his eyes. Challenge me to say no, to refuse.
I really want to, I want to scream at him and just run away. Being sold to all rich people in the Capitol is not the life I want, but being tied to him... permanently, it's more terrifying.
But I have no choice.
All I can do is swallow my pride and take a deep shaky breath.
"I... how... how will it happen, sir?" I ask.
"You two will get engaged once I announce the Third Quarter Quell and get properly married after the crowing of the Victor. He will ask, you will happily say yes." He explains, satisfied with my compliance, then he goes back at the papers in front of him, "That's all."
I don't need him to tell me twice, I immediately walk out of his office, ready to go home and just let everything out.
"Oh, before you go," Snow's voice freezes me on the spot, "Plutarch Heavensbee asked for your company, you will be escorted to his house immediately." He informs me.
I shakily nod and walk out of his office where two guards make way.
-----------
"Do you want some tea?" Plutarch motion for me to sit at a big wooden table, "perhaps something stronger?"
I nervously nod as I sit.
He walks away, I hear him talking to someone before walking back into the room I'm in with two drinks in hand. He offers one to me and sits by the opposite side of the table.
"I told the guards to come back in an hour, we should have enough time" he smiles and I nod again, still not sure of what to expect.
Suddenly the lights go off and the room falls into deep darkness. I can still make out his face due to the lights coming from outside.
"What...?" I ask.
"You can never feel safer," he tells me.
"What's going on, Mr Heavensbee?" I ask, anxiety growing at every passing second.
"Tell me, miss L/n," he starts, voice a little quieter than before, "what do you know about district 13?"

"It came to my attention a rumour's been going around regarding you, miss L/n." He starts, still not looking directly at me, "a merry one."
"You two will get engaged once I announce the Third Quarter Quell, and get properly married after the crowing of the Victor. He will ask, you will happily say yes." He explains satisfied with my compliance, then he goes back at the papers in front of him, "That's all."

Heyoo!
I have a request, it’s a bit of a long gif so if ya don’t get to it or don’t wanna do it, it’s fine lol.
Anyways, my idea / request / prompt / Echo x Fem!Reader goes like this, kinda, feel free to take liberties
Echo, now I feel like he would be a nervous kinda guy when it comes to having a crush. Like, he just doesn’t know what to say and overthinks absolutely everything, and can’t rly take a hint. Before he got blown up, there was a girl, who he has a liiiitle crush on n such, (idk you can make her a mechanic, doctor, bartender, whatever idm)
And they were rly good “friends” n such r something, aaaand some time after he joins TBB he visits the old place where he used to reside with the other guys in the domino squad (I forget where *sob*) And she’s is surprisingly still there. Heartfelt angsty ?kinda? Maybe reunion yadayadaydada and a bit after that and after catching up, probably a day or two later they pick up hints that they like each other and eventually confess n StUfF, aaand ya, then he has to go back with TBB and they be sad, he invites her to join but she is hesitant, and bc the other squad members don’t even know her she ends up saying no- aaaaand ya-
( 💀 omg i don’t even know anymore )
Idk it’s a very weird prompt, I’m making this up as I go, so feel free to pick and choose, take or add, whatever u wanna do
Again if u don’t wanna do it that is perfectly fine, just a thought. Love your work! <33
I Dream Of Forever
Summary: Summary: You’ve been a bartender on Rishi since you were old enough to take orders correctly. Echo was a Clone Trooper turned ARC Trooper stationed on Rishi who was a little more than friends with you. You legitimately believe he’s dead. But when a group of clones land on Rishi, you come face to face with the man you hoped would be your forever.
Pairing: TBB Echo x F!Reader
Word Count: 2201
Warnings: Some suggestive moments, but nothing detailed
Tagging: @trixie2023 @n0vqni
A/N: I thing I got the general vibe you want, but if I didn't please let me know and I'll do something else.
Tumblr media
You’ve been a bartender at the same bar on Rishi since you were ten years old. Your parents had debts to the bar owner, and they sold you to make up for it. Well, you and your siblings.
You’re the lucky one.
Your…owner? Guardian? Whatever he is, he treats you like a beloved granddaughter. He buys you clothes and food and allows you to go to school…and until you reached the age of majority at 18, you only had to work four hours a night four days a week.
He even paid for you to go to college, and he pays you well enough that you have your own home here on Rishi.
You’re lucky.
Your older brother, you know, ended up becoming a gladiator in the Outer Rim, and last you heard he’s an enforcer for the Hutt Cartel. Your older sister, however, became a drug runner for a Spice Cartel and last you heard she’s moving from rehab center to rehab center.
You’re lucky.
Maybe if you repeat it often enough, you’ll believe it.
All things considered, Rishi isn’t the worst place to spend your life. The area you live in is warm and bright and right on the water. Not to mention you’ve got several friends here that you would miss if you left…or if the Empire decides to actually deal with the pirate problem.
You’re not worried though.
The Republic’s war with the Separatists barely touched Rishi afterall, aside from having a single watch station that has been abandoned for years now.
And you don’t expect that the Empire will push too much.
Your gaze drifts from the food stall that you’re visiting, lingering on the small, almost overgrown, old Republic comm station. Once upon there had been five men stationed there. Hevy, Droidbait, Cutup, Fives, and Echo.
While you had some concerns as to how the pirates of Rishi would react to obvious soldiers spending time in their bars…people were surprisingly okay with them. More than one of them getting an offer to join different crews.
A small smile lifts your lips at the memory of your boys laughingly turning down offers of pirate crew memberships.
The Dominos had been Rishi’s, more so than the Republics, and people raged when they heard that they died.
First when Droidbait and Cutup died, and then later when they heard that Hevy was killed on Kamino. And then even later when Echo was blown up, and then Fives was killed-
Fives’ death was kind of the final straw for Rishi.
Even now, the Pirates of Rishi are more than happy to raid imperial vessels, in honor of their Dominos.
You step around a group of Mercs, all of whom have dominoes tattooed on their hands, and start to meander your way back to your home. You miss them. All of them.
But, if you’re going to be honest, you probably miss Echo the most.
He was a lot like his brothers, loud and boisterous, and always ready with a joke or a quip, or to finish a joke that his twin set up. He was always the first to greet you with a grin, and the last to say goodbye at the end of the night.
But, unlike his brothers, he flirted with you a little shyly, as though he wasn’t sure what he was doing.
It was charming and sweet, and you found yourself smitten with him.
He didn’t, quite, get over his shyness with you even after the first time you invited him into your home with tempting kisses. He was still a little shy even after the tenth time you invited him into your home, and your bed, with teasing touches and adoring kisses.
You wanted forever with him, and you thought, hoped, that he wanted the same.
And then he left, and you never heard from him again.
You suppose, in a way, it makes sense. Why would a soldier want to slum it with a bartender who’s technically a slave.
Doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt.
After all, you still dream of forever with Echo. Only now, your dreams are definitely castles in the air.
After all, dead men don’t get happily ever afters.
Tumblr media
“We need to land somewhere,” Tech says to his brothers, a frown on his face, “The damage to the ship is…far too severe for me to repair without landing.”
“Where can we land, though?” Wrecker asks, “It’s not like there are a large number of places that will accept us.”
Echo eyes the star map speculatively, “I…may have an idea.” He offers, as his gaze lands on a specific planet. A bright smile dances across your memory, and a loving laugh echoes in his ears.
He’s a kriffing fool.
Hopefully she won’t turn him away.
“Well?” Hunter prompts when Echo doesn’t continue right away.
“I think we should go to Rishi.” Echo says slowly.
“Rishi!” Tech sputters.
“That’s a pirate planet, Echo.” Hunter says, “They won’t react well-”
“Do you have a better idea?” Echo asks.
The room falls silent for a moment, and then Tech sighs, “It is up to you, Hunter. Rishi is the closest planet we can land on.”
Hunter pushes his hand through his hair, “Fine. Do it.”
An hour later, the Marauder lands on an open pad, and no one comes to the ship to speak to them. “Is this…normal?” Tech asks.
“Yeah, pretty much.” Echo replies with a shrug, “We should probably not wear our armor here,” He adds. He’s already changed into civilian attire, and he’s somewhat anxiously rubbing his arm just over where his scomp is attached.
“Why?”
“Because our armor screams ‘clones’ and I’m not sure how the pirates will react to seeing clones now.” Echo replies dryly, “I’ve heard rumors of Rishi based Pirates raiding Republic and Imperial transports lately.”
Hunter agrees that it’s a reasonable precaution, and they all hurriedly change into civilian attire, before they get off the ship, with Omega clinging to Wrecker’s hand. And then, almost as one, they turn to Echo.
Echo sighs and rubs the back of his head, and then he turns and heads deeper into the city.
Some things have changed, new people, new stalls, but most everything else is the same. He pauses in front of a specific bar, and peers in, his dark eyes scanning the faces of the bartenders for a moment, before he motions for his brothers to follow him some more.
“Are you lookin’ for someone?” Wrecker asks.
“Yeah. Someone who, hopefully, won’t be too angry at me and will be willing to help.” Echo says.
“A friend?” Omega asks.
“Yeah, something like that.”
Echo leads them away from the shops and docks, and over to a row of apartments. He scans the buildings for a moment, before he turns and heads to one of the smaller buildings, and he stops in front of a plain door, with flower boxes in the windows.
His lips curl up in a small smile, Fives made those flower boxes early one morning when he was hyped up on Caf. They were crooked and lopsided, but it looks like she kept them. Though it looks like she painted them. “Wait here.” Echo says to his siblings, before he walks over to the door, and he knocks twice.
“Just a moment!” Her voice comes from the other side of the door, and Echo doesn’t fight his smile.
She sounds exactly the same.
Stars, please don’t let her be too mad.
The door slides open, “Yes? Can I help yo-” She stops mid-sentence when she sees who’s standing there, “...Echo?”
“You grew your hair out,” Echo replies, a small smile lifting his lips, “It looks good. You look amazing. I’m sure you have a question or twenty, cyar’ika-”
Echo’s not able to finish his sentence as she flings her arms around him and crashes her lips against his. His arms fold tightly around her and he immediately kisses her back, and it’s almost as if no time has passed at all.
If he focuses, he can almost hear Fives wolf-whistling and hear Cutup making lewd comments.
And then reality snaps back into place when he hears Tech’s dry voice, “Ah. That kind of friend.”
Echo carefully pulls back, and reaches up to gently cup her cheek, using his thumb to brush a tear away, “I’m sorry for not comming you, cyar’ika.”
She shakes her head, “We were told that you died.” She whispers, “Fives said…” She trailed off, “And then Fives died, and, kriff, the death of the last Domino started a war between the pirates of Rishi and the Republic/Empire, why would you bring them here?”
“Our ship is damaged-” Echo started.
“Get in. In. All of you!” She drags Echo into her home, and she doesn’t shut the door until Hunter is in the apartment as well. “Honestly Echo,” She rounds on him, “If you commed I would have told you to go literally anywhere else.”
“I wasn’t sure you’d answer.” Echo replies.
There are pictures of her with Echo, and with the rest of the dominoes on the walls. There are also pictures of her with a large, scarred man. And of her with a too slender woman.
“What do you need? I can probably get most of the materials sent to your ship.” She says.
“I have a list.” Tech offers as he hands her his datapad.
She copies it and sends the list to several of her friends, “Alright, you should have most, if not all, of what you need by the morning.”
“Are we in danger here?”
“On Rishi specifically? No. Not so long as you don’t draw attention to yourself.” She replies, “I’d offer to let you spend the night, but I don’t have much room.”
“We can stay on the ship,” Tech replies.
“Echo, are you going to stay here?” Omega asks.
Echo doesn’t take his gaze off of his cyar’ika, “If I’m allowed?”
“I’ve never turned you away before.” She counters.
Echo smiles at her, “Do you remember the way back to the docks?”
“I remember.” Tech says, “Come on.”
The door opens, and then closes again, leaving Echo alone with his cyar’ika.
She smiles at him, soft and warm and slow, “You used to be shyer about public displays of affection.”
“I used to have legs and two hands too,” Echo replies, it's a weak joke, but a joke all the same. “I’m so sorry I never commed you.” He says after a moment, “I thought…it felt cruel, reaching out to you when I couldn’t actually touch you.”
“It’s okay.”
“It’s not.”
“Echo. I forgive you.” She walks over to him and she kisses him as if no time has passed at all, all loving and soft and sweet.
She’s always been unfairly tempting. Her lips and her touch encourage him to stay and enjoy what she’s offering. And Echo has always been helpless to deny her.
He’s not surprised when he falls into her bed, her lips needy against his.
Later, much later, they’re lounging in her bed, and Echo is trailing his lips across her bare shoulder.
“Cyar’ika,” He murmurs against her shoulder, “Come with me.”
“Come with you where?” She asks, her voice light and dreamy.
“On the Marauder. Away from Rishi. I’ll protect you-”
She turns and looks at him, her smile so sad, “You know I can’t.”
“You deserve so much better than being a slave for your parents' debts,” Echo whispers.
She rolls so that she’s facing him properly, “Echo, your brothers don’t know me. And if I had to guess, your ship is pretty small. Me going with you isn’t fair to them.”
“You deserve more.” Echo repeats.
“I don’t like life is about what we deserve,” She replies, as she reaches up to cup his face, “So, in the morning, you’re going to return to your ship, to your brothers…and you’re going to leave Rishi. And you’re going to go back to not comming me, and it’s just how it’s going to be.”
“No.”
“Echo.” She sighs his name, and he shifts so he’s looking right in her eyes.
“No.” He repeats, “I’ve given up so much. My body, my batchmates, my twin. I’m not giving you up. Let me be greedy. Just about this one thing.”
She sighs again, but she looks touched. “How about…a deal?”
“What kind of deal?”
“My contract with my…owner is coming to an end. At the end of the year, I’ll have made enough to pay off my parents' tab with him.” She says softly, “On that day, I will comm you and come to where you are. No matter where you might be.”
“Do you promise?”
She laughs softly, “Echo, I’ve been dreaming of forever with you since the first day we met. Now that I have the chance to have it, it would take an act of god to stop me.”
Echo crashes his lips against hers, “I want forever too,” He breathes against her lips, “So we have a deal.”
She smiles at him, “I love you, Echo.”
He blinks at her, momentarily surprised, and then he laughs and kisses her deeply, “I love you too.”

Hi! I'm Amy (She/Her)
I write fanfic, which you probably already know if you came here from my AO3 page (where I go by hurricane).
Currently I'm writing for Fourth Wing.
My favourite colour is green, I love Taylor Swift and Fall Out Boy, and I hate spicy food (but love spicy books).
Below you'll find links to my work/fandom masterposts & some FAQ
Tumblr media
✧ Fandoms/Works
Fourth Wing
ACOTAR
Tumblr media
✧ FAQ
Do you have an update schedule?
Not really. Sometimes it's once a week, sometimes twice, sometimes not for weeks (though I try to only do that in between projects), it really depends on the hyperfixation.
How do you write so much?
I get super anxious about starting things and not finishing them (and then having people asking me about them) so I try to write ahead before posting, so it isn't always in real time. I do however write on average (based on year to date) 2.5k words a day, which I guess is a lot for most people? The simple answer is I don't work full time and I try to write everyday.
What's your writing process?
I prefer writing either in the morning or later at night. I always write in bed, propped up against the headboard. Sometimes if I'm home alone I'll venture out to the kitchen and feel supremely uncomfortable for no reason, so I quickly return to my low-lit cave.
I just write what I'm inspired to write when I'm inspired to write it. I've learned not to force it, that just makes writer's block worse!
Do you have any writing advice?
I do! I get asked this a lot, so I wrote a masterpost: Part One—the advice & Part Two—the resources
Can I bind your fic?
At the moment my stance on fic binding is that it’s fine if it’s only for personal use and not for sale, profit, distribution or commission. Please don’t use commercial companies like print houses (due to legal issues). I feel very strongly about fanworks being and remaining free, and the way fic-binding has been commodified recently worries me 💖
Do you allow translations of your work?
You’re bilingual, that’s so cool! I appreciate you asking 💗 I believe in fanfiction being accessible to everyone. I would request however at this time that any translations of my work be kept on AO3—there’s a checkbox you can tick to link it as a translation.
Can I use a scenario in your fic for my own or write something inspired by your fic?
Mostly, yeah. See my in-depth answer/thoughts on this here.
Can I use your characters for a fic of my own?
I respectfully ask you not to at this time. All my original characters from my series' are very close to my heart, especially Remi (the one people ask about the most) and their stories are not yet finished! So there's more you guys don't know about them. At the moment, I'm a bit sensitive about it and I'd like to keep them close. If you do still write something inspired by them, it's also highly likely I won't read it, at least until I'm finished the series. Thanks for understanding.
What else are you working on?
I have a dozen fic ideas for Fourth Wing, at least four of which I've already written bits and pieces of while working on Basgiath (Remi's Version). I don't run on any kind of schedule though, they'll see the light of day when they do and if they don't, then they won't!
I also have two original novels I'm writing, one of which I hope to finish in the next couple of months (it's in the plotting stage!) 🥰
Will you ever come back to ACOTAR?
I plan to at some point, hopefully this year! I just want to get through some of these Fourth Wing ideas while I'm still inspired and eventually I'll come back to write Callie's story and maybe some Feysand, or an Eris fic. It's tough because I've been writing that series in third and my FW works have me in first person mode. I find it very hard to switch between them.
Do you have any fic recs?
I do! Only for Fourth Wing at the moment, you can see them all here. I'm slowly adding to the list/collection 🌟

Anyways, enjoy this Lou x Reader fanfic :)
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Thinking of you~♡
Your laying on your bed, staring up at the ceiling. Its 9:03 in the morning and you haven't gotten any sleep. You try to pretend that you don't know why, but at the end of the day you cant push away your feelings.
The Institute of Imperfection isn't really known for much romance, but lately you've been wanting that in your life. You have everything you could ever ask for, sure, but you still feel like somethings missing, or someone. Maybe your just overreacting. After all, life couldn't get better than this, right?
You sit up from your bed and groan as you walk in your kitchen, the smell of (Favorite food) filling your nostrils. You open your silky cabinet for some breakfast when you suddenly remember what time it was.
You slowly turn you head towards your clock..(9:06 A.M). Shoot! You forgot you had to meet with Luckybat today. "Dangit, I should've kept track of the time! I have to meet with Lucky in 4 minutes!"
You frantically start freshening up, knowing you have no time to shower. You try your best to make your hair look halfway decent, which end up being a halfway success. You quickly brush your teeth, throw on some decent clothes and scramble out the door.
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
(Luckybat's house - 9:13 A.M)
Dang, your 3 minutes late.
You hesitantly walk up to his doorstep, then ring the bell. It opens softly, and Luckybat stand there with a smile.
"Ah, (name), you came! The tea was just finished. Oh, and Lou is here too!
"Wait what?" You didn't know he was going to be here. I mean, you didn't have anything against him. You actually had a huge crush on him, in fact. I mean, who doesn't? But that was exactly the problem. Lou, your crush since forever, is here. To make things worse, you don't even look you best.
"Is something wrong?" Lucky asks curiously.
"No, no, everything's fine. Its just.." You lower you voice to just above a whisper.
" I came here to talk about romance, and, well..."
Lucky looks at you confused until a wave of realization hits his face.
"You- ohh.. I get it. Its okay, he's just here for therapy."
"Yeah, but Lucky, how am I supposed to talk to you about romance if me and him are in the same room? I wont be able to focus and I'll stumble over my words."
Luckybat looks at you with a reassuring smile. "Trust me, there is nothing to worry about. You'll be fine."
Luckybat leads you in the room where you see Lou fidgeting with his hands. The moment you step inside the room, both of you make a face with a mix of nervous and shy. Although, he doesn't seem surprised to see you. Lucky must've told him that you were coming already.
Your emotions start scattering everywhere and you suddenly feel like you need some air. Eventually, it becomes clear that somethings wrong. Lou looks directly at you, obviously concerned.
"A-Are you okay?" He asks vaguely. You stare into his beautiful sapphire eyes for a moment, then regain yourself. "Yeah.. yeah I'm fine."
Luckybat looks at the both of you, then clears his throat to speak. "I'll go get the tea." As Luckybat leaves the room, you gather all your courage to say something to the doll on the other side of the room.
"Lou?"
The doll looks up at you curiously.
"Yes?"
"Do you.. remember me?"
He stares at you for a brief moment, processing what you just asked.
"Of course I do. Your name is (name). Your the one who helped me with my job as a janitor for a full week that one time."
"Haha yeah.."
There is an awkward silence for a moment.
Lou clears his throat.
"So, what are you here for?"
Your cheeks flush a light red. "Uh, I-I'm here for u-um-"
Suddenly, Luckybat walks into the room with an antiquated tea set. He sets the tea set down on the table between you two, then sits on the left side of the table.
"Alright, Lou, let's start with you. Let's try something simple. What do you like to do in your free time?"
"Well, I like to.. um... actually, I'm not sure."
"Okay then, do you like singing, or dancing more?"
Lou takes a second to respond. "I think I like.."
As he keeps talking, you cant help but notice how cute he looks. He's just so.. perfect. There is not nearly enough words to describe how you feel about him. Soon you find yourself staring, and so does he.
"And also..." He stares at you awkwardly, but that awkwardness quickly turns into a glimmer in his eyes, his cheeks glowing red.
Now your both staring at eachother. Each of you have that same glimmer in your eyes. A glimmer that feels like you've known eachother forever.
Luckybats eyes are slightly widened and he briefly glances at the both of you. He then again clears his throat, this time being louder than the first. "Okay, well it seems like Lou is finished. Now for you, (name). Why do you feel that you need romance in your life?"
Lou suddenly looks at Luckybat confused, his attention obviously caught.
"W-Well um..."
You start to get clearly nervous. Clear enough for Lucky to notice.
"Nevermind, scratch that. How would you like to start?" Lucky gives you a smile and you smile back softly.
"Well, I'd like to first of say that..." you keep talking with Luckybat until he moves back to Lou for a while, then back to you. Eventually, the session with Lucky is over for you and Lou. You both wave him goodbye as you and Lou awkwardly stand beside eachother.
You decide to say something to break the silence.
"So, what are you gonna do now?"
"Uh, yknow, just walk home.. heh.. What about you?"
"Same thing eheh.." You both laugh dryly and awkwardly, but then Lou straightens up.
"I better head home. It was nice seeing you again." Lou puts on a genuine, soft smile as he turns away and starts walking.
As he's walking, you think back to the moment when you and him were in that room, glimmering sapphire eyes gazing into yours. It felt like time was frozen, and all that mattered was him. You know in your heart that you can't just pretend that nothing happend.
"Lou..?"
He turns back to you, a tired, but friendly look on his face. Its almost enough to make you blush, but you hold yourself together.
"About that moment in the room..." You decide not to be straightforward, and take it slow. You softly sigh and continue talking.
"Is there anything you want to talk about?"
He hesitates shyly, but seemingly gains courage to talk.
"Actually, there is something I want to talk to you about."

I feel like not enough people know about Popee the Performer, and after searching, there is little to no tickle content of them, so I'll change that.
Tumblr media
here is my contribution to this weird little show!
lee! Popee
ler! Kedamono
TW: Back injury, contortionism
Another morning in the deserted circus, the sun bright as ever and a new act for the ringmaster and sidekick to perform was being set up. Kedamono was seated on a stool as the blonde was pointing to a large board with bold text stating 'Contortionism'.
Popee flipped through various pictures of people in absurd positions, jumping up and down excitedly as the purple wolf's mask fell to reveal a concerned look. Suddenly, Popee tapped the board, then motioning to Kedamono to copy the arrangement. Another mask fell as Kedamono shook his head, hands waving in front of him before turning to run away.
He only made it a few steps before a familiar scent wafted towards him. The purple animal whipped around, face featuring a happy expression as his tail wagged. Popee held a plate of fried chicken in front of his face, knowing the bribe would always work.
Kedamono was snapped out of his trance as the food was moved, realizing he still had to participate in the act. Now nervous, he stretched his arms up, preparing to attempt the pose. He began to bend backwards, hands eventually meeting the ground as the wolf's body resembled an 'n'.
Everything was going according to plan so far! Popee stood back and watched as his "friend" continued to scoot back, hands inching towards his own legs. He was so close! He might actually do it!
The wolf's body bent slightly more, the tension in the circus building. Everything looked fine until...
Craack!
Kedamono fell to the ground, clutching his injured back as Popee fumed. The ringleader stomped his feet and pointed to Kedamono, a look of shame overcoming his previously pained expression.
The striped-clothed circus member rushed over to the other, plate of fried chicken in hand. Kedamono looked up hopefully, only to yelp as Popee threw the plate into a nearby garbage can.
The ringleader sighed, calming himself before motioning to himself with a look that said, 'If you can't do this, watch me instead'. Stepping back, Popee shook out his limbs, preparing to atempt the stunt. Kedamono rose, watching pitifully as the other bent backwards, getting into the designated position, and finally flinging his leg in the air, successfully completing the pose.
Confetti appeared from seemingly nowhere as Kedamono clapped, only for a drawn out moment of silence left the two rather awkward. Something wasn't right. Popee's arms shook under his own weight, but couldn't seem to dislodge himself from the position. Worried looks overcame the both of them as Kedamono made his way over, carefully examining how Popee's body had locked in place.
A thought came to the purple one. Maybe it wouldn't even work, maybe it would get him killed, but boy, if it wasn't a fun idea.
The wolf-critter crept behind his companion, pretending to continue examining the other, poking at his leg still in the air, before prodding at the other's torso, causing Popee to wiggle around. Kedamono decided to continue, poking and tweaking until finally...
THUMP!
Popee lost his balance, wobbling arms dropping him to the ground as he lay, his body a little crumpled but thankfully not injured. After a few moments, Popee sat up, rubbing his head before making eye-contact with his assistant. The look quickly turned to a glare however as Kedamono slowly backed away, arms raised in front of him before dashing off, Popee not so far behind.
Yeah... probably not the best idea, but at least it worked?
WAAAH! I'M SO SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG! I had a complete burnout and couldn't bring myself to write, but I really hope this is okay! 😥😥 I'm going to try to write some more, so I'll probably post another fic in a little while. It's going to be on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as that is my hyperfixation for the time being, so if you want me to write for that, I would be ecstatic to! I hope you have a wonderful day/night!

so in this attempt to beat my cooking anxiety (huge executive dysfunction with a dash of nausea), i tried to logic it.
known variables:
executive dysfunction is about starting a task, i'm fine once i start.
sweet sweet hyperfocus
thank you dimension 20 episodes for being 2h long.
if i buy groceries for the entire week, I always make one meal and eventually lose the rest of the food
i already take a little walk every day, so getting fresh ingredients that i'll cook that same day is doable
this removes having to unfreeze meat. i hate unfreezing meat.
i get bored of eating the same thing for too long, i eventually turn to take-out. so i need variety.
i can work on a twice a week basis: sundays and wednesdays
3 days is 6 meals.
I can cook two different meals, 4 portions each. three in the fridge, one in the freezer.
i can make something in the oven and at the same time something on the stove
i am eternally grateful for the dishwasher my mom and my stepdad gifted us. i just need to kick my own butt and clean everything that same night. but that doesn't trigger executive dysfunction, that's just regular laziness.
maybe all this is obvious to some people, but not to this broken brain. i need to find the most natural way to integrate cooking in my life, natural enough it won't alert the anxiety alarms. that means finding a day of the week, hour of the day, type of meal, method of planning, method of cooking, quantity, recipes that are easy and healthy and also work with my brother's allergies and my general pickiness and lactose intolerance. it's like those corridors full of lasers and if you trigger one you burst into tears and order on uber eats again.

Pairing: Uzui x Fem!Reader
The Emptiness You Left
The following morning Suma knocks on your door. She tells you to get dressed and to come down for breakfast. You do as you're told, putting on one of the outfits in your new dresser and heading downstairs.
As you make your way into the dining room, you notice the table is filled with plates upon plates of food. Suma, Uzui, and two other women look your way as you enter the room.
"Morning, Y/N!" Suma beams. "I made breakfast by myself this morning! I hope you enjoy it. I know a good breakfast always cheers me up."
"Thank you, Suma," you nod as you take a seat. You begin to eat quietly while the four of them discuss various topics.
"Are you a hashira, too?" you ask the woman in purple beside you.
She giggles and shakes her head. "No, Lord Uzui is the only hashira here."
"And what a great hashira he is," the woman in the red dress adds the second Uzui walks into the kitchen to refill the tea.
You smile at the sight. These two women love him, too, it seems. Well, they must, because there's no way they can be serious. Sure, he's handsome, but it's not like half of those stories he told you last night were actually true.
"I'm sorry, I didn't ask your names," you say apologetically to the both of them.
"My name is Hinatsuru," the woman in purple answers, introducing herself with a gentle smile.
"And I'm Makio," the other woman in red greets you.
"It's nice to meet you," you nod, continuing to eat your food.
After breakfast, Uzui requests for Suma to bring you to something called a butterfly mansion, to which she happily agrees.
"What is a butterfly mansion?" you question as the two of you leave.
"It's a place where they treat injured demon slayers and teach the new recruits," she explains.
"Train new recruits? Really? Do you think-"
"Don't get your hopes up," she shakes her head. "After you went to bed I'm pretty sure Uzui told the whole world that you're not allowed to train."
"I don't understand how that's fair," you pout, crossing your arms over your chest.
"Yeah, it really isn't," Suma agrees, patting you on the back. "But maybe he'll change his mind eventually."
You groan as the two of you walk into the butterfly mansion. There, you get treated for your wounds and are given a uniform. You try it on and find that it fits perfectly.
"You're so cute," one of the nurses remarks, clapping her hands together. "It's a shame Lord Uzui won't allow you to become a demon slayer."
"Wait, do people already know that?" you ask, feeling embarrassed.
"Of course they do. The news spread quickly," she shrugs. "Word travels fast around here. You can't tell me you didn't expect that."
Suma, who's stayed with you the whole time, sighs. "I told you, Y/N. No matter what anyone says, he will not let you join until he changes his own mind."
"Well, maybe I don't need him then. I can just train myself," you state firmly, determined to make it happen.
Suma giggles, not thinking you're being serious. "That's so funny," she hums. You're not sure why, but you decide to laugh along with her.
That afternoon, Suma brings you to the mansion's dining room where you sit and meet back up with Hinatsuru and Makio.
"Woah, you two look beat," Suma remarks as they sit opposite from you at a table.
"Lord Tengen's got us working like dogs," Makio grumbles, rubbing her shoulder.
"God, what I would give for one day off," Hinatsuru nods.
Only Suma notices the sour look on your face. "Cheer up, Y/N. You've got to be feeling a bit better than yesterday, right?"
"I'm feeling fine," you nod. "I just don't know how I'll ever repay you all for your kindness."
"Repay us?" Makio laughs. "Girl, no need to worry about that."
"We're not doing this for any reward," Hinatsuru smiles.
"Yeah, it's part of being-" Makio, begins, before noticing the way Suma shakes her head dismissively. "Uh, what's going on here?"
"Y/N doesn't want to be a burden," Suma says, looking over at you.
"Well, she isn't," Makio scoffs. "You're not a burden, Y/N."
"That's a bit hard to accept when all I'm allowed to do is eat and sleep," you sigh, picking at the food on your plate.
"You'll get used to it, Y/N," Hinatsuru tries to cheer you up. "Just try to have a good attitude and the days will start to pass faster."
"Besides, it's not like you're going to live here forever," Makio shrugs. "Once you
re out of Lord Tengen's house you can do whatever you want."
Your eyes widen at her words. She's right. Uzui said you only have to stay at his house until you get back on your feet. So once you do that, you should be free to leave and do whatever you want!
"Yeah, that's true," you mumble, feeling a bit more hopeful than before.
"Don't forget, though," Hinatsuru interjects, "it's his decision whether or not you're ready."
"Oh, she'll be ready in no time," Suma waves her hand, not noticing the mischievous look on your face.
"Thanks for having my back, Suma," you tell her, and she smiles back.
A few moments later, the doors fly open and Uzui walks in. You feel a knot grow in the pit of your stomach as he begins to walk in your direction. Once he approaches, you can feel his stare burning into the side of your head.
"Suma," he then calls, and she turns to look at him. "I think it's time for Y/N and I to have a talk. Where is she?"
"Uh, right there..." Makio says, pointing to you.
"Hmph, I hardly noticed her there. She's rather plain looking, isn't she?" he shrugs.
"Master, don't say that about Y/N!" Suma speaks up for you first.
"Yeah, she's been through a lot," Hinatsuru agrees.
"I understand, but it's time we had a little chat," he repeats.
You look over at Suma and she gives you an encouraging nod. You dig your nails into your palms as you ball up all your anger into your fists.
"What do you want, Uzui?" you ask him, and the whole room falls silent.
He stares at you with a shocked expression before regaining his composure. "I'd hope you remember your manners, Miss. Y/N, and address your superiors correctly. I thought I had already gone over this."
"Why should I show you an ounce of respect when you don't show me any in return?" you bark at him.
"What is that supposed to mean? You have a roof over your head and food in your stomach, is that not enough for you?"
"I don't need your charity, and I certainly don't need you babysitting me," you spit, standing up.
"You should watch your tone with me, Y/N. I can easily kick you out of my house."
Before you end up saying something you regret, Suma pinches you in the arm and you fall silent. "Y/N, why don't we go somewhere and cool down?"
You sigh, realizing how stupid this is, and follow Suma out the door.
"Do you see now?" you whisper to her as the two of you walk away. "I can't live like that!"
"He'll come around, Y/N, I promise," she nods, patting your shoulder.
You sigh and run a hand through your hair. "Maybe this whole thing was a mistake. Maybe I should go back."
"Back where? To the man who killed your sister?!"
"My brother is still there. I could help him."
"And leave me behind? I thought we were friends now, Y/N."
"Of course we are, Suma," you agree.
"Then let's get to work on getting you on Master Uzui's good side," she whispers. "You know a thing or two about being a hashira's wife."
"You can't be serious."
"Come on, it's the best shot we've got," she pleads, and you shake your head. "Please, Y/N."
"Literally any idea would be better than that," you scoff. "I wouldn't want to be married to him, no offense. He's...aggravating."
"None taken," Suma shrugs. "But we really should get him to like you a bit more than now... Because if he doesn't, we won't get very far."
"Fine," you relent. "I'll play nice."

Hello! I've been enjoying reading your NGE opinions and aus a lot! Can I ask you how'd you do a full prom saga au?
Whew, why does this feel so tricky? I've been thinking about this one and I'm not sure where to take it, so let's just jump in!
First off, I think we have to group everyone into who would expect/ want to go to prom and who wouldn't? So it would be:
Wants to:
Asuka, Kensuke, Toji, Class Rep (Hikari?), Kaworu
Not interested:
Rei
Too insecure to even contemplate going to prom unless a minimum of three people he admires tell him they want to see him there:
Shinji
Then we have to think, what would be the conflict? What is the big problem we're having with prom that we're going to have to overcome? I think the answer is obvious: How to get Shinji and Rei to go. I feel like Asuka needs to be the driving force there, but I also don't think she would particularly care if they go (Rei she definitely wouldn't give a fuck, Shinji she would be back and forth on, I think) unless there was an incentive. So, maybe Misato asks her to try to get Shinji and Rei to go as a favor because she's worried about them being such depressed loners and, in exchange for her service, Misato will-
Wait. oh my god. We have an opportunity here to do a makeover plot line.
Ohhhhhhhhhh my god. Please forget everything I was saying before because I think this would be so funny. We could do an Asushin She's All That thing! Hot and popular Asuka declares that she can turn any loser boy from school into the Prom King, and poor Shinji becomes her project.
I think if we go this route we would probably have to alter the living arrangements so that Asuka and Shinji are not housemates, but I think we could reasonably have them living in the same apartment building. I kind of want to have Shinji living with Kaji and Asuka with Misato. I like when Misato and Asuka have girl talk and I think it's cute that Shinji apparently tries to mimic Kaji's style in ANIMA. Oh, what if Shinji tried to style himself like Kaji on the day Asuka decided to ask him to prom and was not successful? She critiques his look and is like, "I'll fix you, if you agree to go to prom with me" or something like that? I don't know. Just a thought. It might not work.
Kaji and Misato having their own little romance subplot going on while Asuka and Shinji are going through their own thing also very much appeals to me, and as the Asushin plotline progresses it can impact Kaji and Misato's relationship somehow? Don't know. But I do want a Kaji/Misato thing to happen. (I googled it. The ship name is Misakaji.)
Okay, so, Asuka and Shinji have this deep-seated disdain for each other, even from the beginning. I guess maybe Class Rep can be the one who picks Asuka's project and she picks Shinji, which Asuka tries to get out of at first, but eventually has to suck it up and invite him to prom. So that's the first hurdle. She needs to get him to agree. Luckily for the fic, Shinji will have his own reasons for saying yes. What could they be? Probably some kind of pressure from his friends. Kensuke and Toji were teasing him about being bitchless or something, maybe? Or Kaji tells him he needs to find a prom date and do one normal high school thing before he graduates. We know Shinji does what he's told, so he's now struggling to find a date. Along comes Asuka to tell him he's going to prom with her and also allowing her to make him over so she'd not humiliated to be seen with him, and he's just like, "Ugh. Fine."
They are definitely butting heads and stuff at first, but eventually they start to see a softer side of each other, as happens in these situations. Maybe Shinji discovers Misato never stocks food in the fridge and Asuka isn't a very accomplished cook, so he ends up bringing her meals. Asuka learns that Shinji doesn't want to look like his asshole father and she reveals her own father is a jerk, so they bond over that? They find out Kaji and Misato are hooking up and that's a whole thing.
There should be some angry making out.
I mean, they would really only have like a month to go from prom invite to prom night, right? Or is it six weeks? It's a very short amount of time for them to switch their tunes about each other, so I guess maybe instead of a full on love confession, we can shoot for something like: Shinji is feeling really awful about himself that he needs to be made over and act like a completely different person to get positive attention from the other kids at school. Asuka feels like her baby romance with Shinji is only because she's pushing it, and he doesn't actually care. In the end Asuka tells Shinji he's fine the way he is and undoes his makeover as much as she can (she gives him back his polo shirt and comes the styling product out of his hair? Or she rents him the silly powder blue tux he was so taken with when they went shopping for prom outfits?). She also tells Shinji he doesn't have to go to prom with her. She might just stay home. Shinji says he would rather hang out with her, then, since the only reason he wants to go to prom is to hang out with her. It is a lovely moment. Misato and Kaji are not having it. They have both spent so much fucking money on the kids' tickets and limo and outfits and shit. Misato even paid for Asuka to get her makeup done by a professional. It's very sweet they think they're going to hang out around the house in their prom outfits, but no. They are actually getting their asses to prom right now.
So Asuka and Shinji go to the dance, but they sneak out onto the school roof or something at some point and slow dance under the stars and then don't go back in.
I hope that was intelligible. I will not be reading over it for mistakes. Feel free to chime in with other ideas.

21 41 and 46
These were micro fic prompts from ages ago but finally getting around to them dhayshyddhdh
I'm going to save 21 because I still haven't felt inspired for it, I'll just reblog this when I think of something
41: comfort food
This one really inspired me so more than a micro fic 😅 something set in early 1999 of the sum of my confession/junior high Serrennedy AU, when they've finally reunited after years apart
The months as a Rockfort inmate weren't kind to Leon. It wasn't just the scarred ring around his neck where the tracking collar had dug into his skin, nor was it the other various scars he got in Raccoon City and then his escape from Rockfort. What stuck out to Luis most was his weight, how thin he was. While it was a bit concerning, initially Luis wasn't too worried about it. He knew that Rockfort didn't feed their prisoners much, if at all, and assumed Leon would be fine once he moved in and got access to regular meals. But Leon continued to look thin, and once he started observing more closely Luis realized he wasn't eating much, just moving the food around on his plate. Leon had been scrawny when they first met. He was taller than Luis back then, having hit a growth spurt sooner than Luis, but he was skinnier. He wasn't used to eating much –food was apparently scarce when he was still with his biological parents and most of the foster homes he was placed in were stingy with food– so he didn't eat much of what Luis snuck up into his room. But Luis had eventually found a way to get Leon to eat more back then, and hoped employing that old tactic might work again. Luis knew that Leon had felt like a burden back then. While the foster parents Leon was with at that time were far from the worst he'd been with, they didn't have the nice things that Luis's household did. Luis had his own bedroom with a TV, expensive soaps and shampoos, better food, which he was more than happy to share with his friend. But Leon had nothing to give in return, and so he felt like a burden and didn't want to accept the things Luis would offer him. But Luis knew that Leon liked feeling useful, and eventually managed to use that as a way to get him to eat more. He'd make a frozen pizza, eat a piece or two himself, then tell Leon that he was full but his father would get mad at him for wasting food if he threw too much of the pizza away. That got Leon eating eagerly. If he thought that eating was doing Luis a favor and keeping him out of trouble, he wouldn't feel like a burden. “I won't be able to eat all this myself,” Luis says, setting down a hot frozen pizza on the coffee table. Sherry was over at the Burtons’ for a sleepover, so it was just Luis and Leon home. “So you better help me finish it!” The childhood nostalgia seems to overpower Leon's guilt over not pulling his weight in Luis's household and he eats several slices. “Maybe I should have been fancier and just ordered a real pizza,” Luis muses. “But there's always next time.” “Don't do that. I like the frozen better. Reminds me of you.”
46: shimmer
“Close your eyes and hold still,” Claire commands. Leon complies. He feels the soft bristles of a makeup brush running over his eyelids, covering them in a shimmery blue eyeshadow. “Open your eyes so I can check it looks okay before I move onto eyeliner.”

76
A masked figure sits at the opposite side of the table, their arms by their side, sitting completely still.
"76, we would like to ask some questions."
//cw: implied childhood trauma (not detailed, 76 doesn't believe he's traumatized so he doesn't dwell on it), canon typical violence, swearing, kind of an implied sex joke (it's like one throwaway line)
~
ROUND ONE
[Sounds of shuffling, pacing. 76 appears to be agitated]
76: You let me go right now or I'll kick up a fuss, aight? You've seen what I can do.
The Watcher: We have, and we would be intrigued.
76: mmph… [76 lets out a low growl in frustration]
76: I just have to answer some questions and then you'll let me go, right?
The Watcher: That is not for you, or us, to know.
76: You know things would go a lot easier for all of us if you'd just talk like a normal person.
The Watcher: That's no fun.
~
The Watcher: Do you consider yourself an honest person?
76: A little white lie's never hurt anyone, even if they fuss about it. Conversations are about more than who's right or wrong, I reckon.
The Watcher: What do you like to eat?
76: I usually order takeout. I like to try different restaurants everytime. If I'm not sure I'll just order fast food.
The Watcher: What's your weapon of choice?
76: Usually, my fists are enough. That axe did end up growing on me eventually.
The Watcher: How does it feel to kill someone?
76: It depends on who it is.
The Watcher: Do you prefer cats or dogs?
76: Aren't both great? Most people think I'm more of a dog person but if I had to choose, I think I'd rather have a cat.
The Watcher: What was your childhood like?
76: Pretty normal, I'd say? It's not like it was perfect but I'm not traumatized or anything.
The Watcher: Do you have any regrets?
76: Um… I wish I hadn't died? I think that's pretty bloody obvious.
The Watcher: We were expecting a more… specific answer.
76: Am I being graded on this now?
The Watcher: We don't believe you're lying, but we don't think you're telling us the whole truth either.
76: … Fine, fine. I wish I was less reckless. I wish I didn't go through with Ren's dumb plan. Maybe if we were a bit more clever with our own lives then we--
[76 suddenly pauses mid-sentence and falls silent.]
The Watcher: Anything else?
76: You're never satisfied, are you?
[The Watcher remains silent]
76: I, uh… I wish I wasn't so harsh on Jimmy. I think I might've done more harm than good with that one.
[The Watcher chuckles]
76: But at the end of the day, we're all grown ups, aren't we? I'm not responsible for anyone but me. It's a game death we're in.
The Watcher: Do you regret it?
76: I regret a lot of things, I think I've made that clear.
~
ROUND TWO
A masked figure sits at the opposite side of the table, its legs crossed and hands planted comfortably in its lap.
"76, we would like to ask some questions."
~
76: So we meet again. More stupid questions.
The Watcher: Indeed.
76: Did I disappoint you, huh? Not bloody enough? Not gruesome enough?
The Watcher: It was entertaining. Watching you fail.
76: You.. You're a real piece of work, you know that?
[The Watcher remains silent]
~
The Watcher: Do you know how to cook?
76: Uh… Do instant noodles count? Microwave meals? I think I tried to make french toast once but, uh, it didn't turn out well and I felt bad for wasting the bread.
The Watcher: Can you describe your family?
76: Family's not really real, is it? Blood relation doesn't mean much in the long run. I think, growing up, I considered my friends my family.
The Watcher: Tell us of your friends, then.
76: I… Don't really know if there's anything worth mentioning? We were just regular kids. I was always the oldest so I always looked out for everybody. That's how things should be, right?
The Watcher: Do you like your name?
76: It's… Okay? Sometimes I wish it was something cooler but having a simple name makes it easier to get through life, I suppose.
The Watcher: Do you believe in true love? Would you like to get married?
76: God no! I'm not ready for anything like that. I've, uh, "loved" alot of women over the years, I suppose.
The Watcher: Do you have anything you'd want from us?
76: Stop talking in my ear all the bloody time. I know what I'm doing.
The Watcher: Do you like animals?
76: Pets are just another thing you have to take care of, but they're good company.
The Watcher: Do you think you're yourself?
76: No. The ”me“ you have in your head and the ”me“ that I exist within and the ”me“ that exists within the games… They're all pretty different, aren't they?
The Watcher: If the opportunity arises, would you play the game once again?
76: I won't make the same mistakes I did before.
The Watcher: Do you have any regrets?
76: I… wish I talked it out with the boys a bit more. I don't know what got into Grian near the end. Jimmy and, uh, Mumbo too… they would've had to die eventually, but I think I could've done better for them.
The Watcher: Do you regret doing it?
76: I'm not sure if I know what you're talking about.
~~
A masked figure sits at the opposite side of the table, chin resting on her hands with fingers intertwined. She seems to radiate pity and… amusement?
"76, we would like to ask some questions.“
~
ROUND THREE
The Watcher: Can you tell us about your relationship history?
76: W-What kind of question is that? This isn't related to the game.
The Watcher: We're simply curious.
76: I have to answer, don't I?
[The Watcher remains silent]
76: I, uh, I had crushes like any kid did. Once I started wandering around I had a couple of flings here and there. It's not like I'm some clueless little boy. I'm not gonna get all hung up on one girl, I've got tons waiting to crawl all over me back home.
The Watcher: Did you love any of them?
76: Depends on what you mean. I think we all we were just messing around. Things would've gotten messy otherwise.
The Watcher: Do you dislike any of the other participants?
76: Scott and I can't seem to see eye to eye.
The Watcher: How come?
76: He's just, uh… I think we have clashing personalities? I just.. I don't like the way he speaks, I guess. It's nothing deep.
The Watcher: Do you dislike Scott because he takes people you care for away from you?
76: People I care…? I don't know what you mean.
The Watcher: Do you have any regrets?
76: I think we've been over this enough times.
The Watcher: Do you like yourself?
76: I'm a good person. I believe this.
The Watcher: Is there anyone you'd like to see right now?.
76: I'd… like to apologise to Cleo. Again.
The Watcher: If the opportunity arises, would you play the game once again?
76: Please give me one more chance.
The Watcher: What do you think of us?
76: You're annoying.
The Watcher: If you had one wish, what would you ask for?
76: Freedom.
The Watcher: Do you regret it?
76: I'd do it again if I had do.
~
ROUND FOUR
[The sound of laughter echoes through the room.]
A masked figure sits at the opposite side of the table, he leans back carelessly in his chair, clapping his hands in congratulations. He chuckles.
"76, we would like to ask some questions."
~
[The sound of heavy breathing is heard, broken up by hallowed laughter. Sharp inhales and choking giggles. It sounds as if 76 is in pain]
The Watcher: You seem proud of yourself
76: I fucking did it. I finally did it.
The Watcher: Do you find it—
76: Shut up. Just get to the questions.
[The Watcher snickers]
The Watcher: As you wish.
~
The Watcher: Which one of the other participants do you think is most like you?
76: Scott. He GETS me, y'know? It's like we have this mutual understanding. We don't have to explain ourselves to each other, it's brilliant.
The Watcher: What do you do when you're bored?
76: Usually I'd play video games or watch anime. I always find new things to keep myself entertained.
The Watcher: Do you want to go home?
76: I don't have a home.
The Watcher: Do you have any regrets?
76: None.
The Watcher: What's more important to you - someone's personality or their looks?
76: Depends on what you're looking for.
The Watcher: If the opportunity arises, would you play the game once again?
[76 laughs]
The Watcher: If you had $1000 suddenly, what would you spend it on?
76: I think I'd spend it all on things I've wanted for a long time. Games, merchandise, snacks…
The Watcher: What is your weapon of choice?
76: Whatever I can get my hands on.
The Watcher: Do you lie to yourself?
76: What would there be to lie about?
The Watcher: We think there are… feelings you won't allow yourself to admit.
76: If they mattered, I'd take care of them.
The Watcher: Do you miss your King?
76: I don't think you'd let me see him, so I don't see why you're asking.
The Watcher: Do you miss your Soulmate?
76: I said so in the game, didn't I? We've crossed that bridge.
The Watcher: How does it feel, not being needed?
76: Freeing. So fucking freeing.
The Watcher: What makes you feel the need to lie so much to me today?
76: I hate you. I've played your game. I don't owe you shit.
The Watcher: Do you regret it?
76: I'll do whatever I have to. I want to live.
~
NOTE: 76 is a clever and ruthless participant with a strong urge to prove himself, it's no wonder so many have been anchoring for his victory since T████ L███. However, just as a child whose favourite toy is the first to be worn out, we are concerned we may have broken him more than we anticipated.
(( i got a bit carried away LMAO. 76's player is very much one of my favourites to make messed up cus he very much leans into that already. i should mention that this series very vaguely ties into my merc au but only in like a vague ethereal sense. tagging it anyway cus i like having it all in one placeeee ))

Worry
TK has anxiety about Carlos going back to work.
AO3
If we're still alive My regrets are few If my life is mine What shouldn't I do?
-
TK wakes to the sound of their dresser drawer being opened and shut.  He rolls over and feels that Carlos isn't there. Okay, so someone wasn't breaking in to steal their socks.
TK sits up slowly. "What're you doing?"
"Getting ready for work," Carlos says nonchalantly, closing the drawer after he gets what he's looking for.
"Work?" TK pulls the covers off himself. "Already?"
"It's been a few weeks," Carlos pulls his shirt over his head. "I have to go back eventually."
TK makes his way over to his fiancé. "Yeah, but isn't it a little soon?" He asks. "You were kidnapped by a serial killer. You died. If you need someone to vouch for you about that I was literally there. Your dad too."
"I don't need that," Carlos says.
He looks to TK who's looking down at the ground. Carlos grabs TK's hand and squeezes it. "But thank you." He smiles.
TK looks at him and sighs. He gives him a small smile but it's still not confident enough for Carlos.
"I'll be fine," he assures TK putting both of his hands on TK's shoulders. "Okay?"
TK nods. "Okay."
Carlos moves his hands to TK's cheeks and kisses him. "Okay." He leaves one hand still holding TK's face. "I'll see you tonight."
TK nods again. His shift starts an hour or so after Carlos', so he'll get home just as Carlos finishes dinner. He keeps that thought in his mind to help him get through the day. Carlos will be back here when he's out of work. He won't be out looking for the boogeyman. He'll be safe.
-
"What's with you?" Nancy asks.
It's 3 hours into their shift and they've gotten exactly one call so far. Since it's determined as a slow day (though no one says it from fear of jinxing it) they've all been gathered at the dining table for the past half hour.
"Nothing," TK says.
"Dude, you're shaking the table," Nancy comments and points to TK's leg.
TK looks at his leg bouncing and grabs it to stop it.
"What is it?" Nancy asks again.
TK bites his lip, not really wanting to say but Nancy's look tells him she'll get it out of him eventually. "Carlos is back at work today."
"Already?" Paul asks.
"That's what I said!" TK exclaims.
"Well, the only one to know if he's ready is himself, right?" Judd comments. "Maybe he is."
"Or maybe he's not but he thinks he needs to be," TK comments.
"Do you think he's getting pressured to come back?" Paul asks.
"I don't know," TK says. "He told me he chose. Even said they offered him more time, but he denied it but I..." TK looks away, he starts biting his nail.
"Have you called him?" Paul asks.
"No," TK drops his hand. "I'm afraid he'll think I think he can't handle it."
"When it's really you that can't?" Nancy asks.
"I mean what if he freezes up or what if he goes off on his own again and gets stuck?" TK asks. His eyes are wide just like how they were the day Carlos went missing.
"I doubt he's going to make that mistake again," Nancy tries to make light of it but TK isn't taking it.
"Look we all have dangerous jobs," Judd says. "There are no guarantees."
"I mean look at you. How many near death experiences have you had?" Nancy says.
The fact that TK is running out of fingers to count them on should tell him something. "Yeah," TK scratches his head.
"This ought to take your mind off of it," Judd says, putting a plate in front of TK. "My great Aunt's recipe."
TK gives a half assed smile up to Judd. "Thanks, but I'm not really hungry."
TK pushes his chair back and moves away from the table. Nancy, Paul, and Judd watch TK walk over to the TK and sit on the couch. His foot rests on the corner of the coffee table, vibrating like it was at dining table a few minutes ago, as he starts biting his thumbnail again.
Mateo comes back from the restroom and takes TK's spot at the table. He starts complimenting Judd's cooking as the rest look from TK to him.
"What?" Mateo asks, mouth full of food.
Judd sighs. "Alright. Let's eat. Before Mateo hogs it all."
Nancy and Paul get in line as they advert their eyes away from TK.
"Gimme a minute," Nancy says as she slides her phone out of her pocket.
"What're you doing?" Paul asks.
"Calling the only other person that can talk TK down."
Carlos feels his phone vibrate in his pocket. He excuses himself from his coworker as he takes it out of his pocket. The caller ID tells him it's Nancy and it arises a slight panic in him. It's not like she hasn't called him for other reasons, but his body will always flashback to that one call during the blizzard a year ago.
"Nancy?"
"Hey!" Nancy greets friendly and Carlos relaxes.
"Your fiancé'," Nancy draws out playfully. Then she looks over at TK. His leg bouncing, his nail biting, and now his hands gripping his head as if he was begging the thoughts to stop. She sobers up her voice. "TK's worried about you."
Carlos sighs. "I told him I'm fine."
"And you never say that and don't mean it, right?" Nancy asks knowingly.
Carlos lets out a small laugh. "Maybe. But really, I am."
"Yeah, well he doesn't seem to think that."
"I thought work would take his mind off worrying?" Carlos asks.
"Yeah, we've gotten about...one call so far?"
"One?"
"Mhmm."
"Jesus," Carlos sighs and looks at the piles of paper in front of him. He rubs his temples.
"Yeah."
"I'd come by but," Carlos stops to lift one of the piles off and put it on top of another. "Got a lot of paperwork here."
"Yeah of course. It stacks up I bet. Look I just wanted to let you know. TK didn't want to say anything. Didn't want you thinking he didn't trust that you'd know you were okay or something but..."
"Yeah. I'll talk to him at dinner. Or if this workload lightens up."
"Okay. Hey maybe we'll get a few emergencies in a bit and take his mind off of it."
"Begging for emergencies. You sound like TK."
Nancy laughs. "You know," she says serious again. "Not that TK hasn't told you a million times, I'm sure, but if you're not ready to be back."
"I know. Thank you."
"No problem."
They hang up.
‘Luckily’ about 10 minutes after Nancy hangs up, they get a call and from there it was call after call until their shifts were over.
TK checks in on Carlos after the second call with Carlos reassuring him again that he’s okay. They get interrupted by TK’s 3rd emergency and then TK doesn't have the time the rest of the night.
-
-
TK gets home exhausted both physically and mentally. As much as the emergencies took his mind off of worrying for the time being, he still found time to in between. He hates the extreme sigh of relief he breathes out when he opens the loft doors and sees Carlos safe, smiling, setting the table up.
"Hey, babe," He greets TK with a smile. "Dinner will be ready in a few minutes."
TK's stomach was in knots all day but he doesn't want to make Carlos think anything is wrong so he musters the best fake smile he can. "Smells good."
Carlos turns away to grab the sizzling pan and TK drops his smile. Carlos doesn't notice. He's too busy fixing their plates. TK takes off his jacket and drapes it on the couch as Carlos goes to put the plates on the table.
"Dinner is-"
Carlos is cut off by TK grabbing him for a hug.
"TK?"
TK doesn't answer, just squeezes tighter.
Carlos runs his hands on the back of TK's neck and pulls himself to the crook of TK's neck. He rub's TK's sides. "Hey."
TK pulls away. Carlos grips his face and tries to look into his eyes but TK's are meeting the floor. Carlos takes a quick look back at the dining table, hot food that he spent the past hour making getting cooler by the minute. He looks back at TK.
"We need to talk," he says. He needs TK's undivided attention, not distracted by food he may or may not eat.
"Food's getting cold," TK comments.
"Were you going to eat much of it?" Carlos asks fully aware that it was unlikely.  "It was going to get cold either way."
"You should eat though," Not even defending himself from Carlos' comment.
"I can wait a bit. Come on," Carlos says. He nudges his head to towards the living room. "I'll be there in a few minutes. Let me just put these away in some containers."
As much as he really wanted a hot home cooked meal this is more important.
TK listens and disappears to the other side of the loft.
As soon as the food is put away Carlos makes his way over to the couch. TK's leg is shaking ever so slightly in nervousness. If it was anyone else besides Carlos, they wouldn't have even noticed. Carlos touches TK's legs gently as he sits next to him. The shaking stops as if by magic.
"What'd you want to talk about?" TK asks and Carlos almost laughs. It's so innocent, not that TK was in trouble or anything, but he had to at least have some clue what this was about.
Carlos sighs and scoots even closer to his fiancé. "Nancy called."
"She did?" TK asks, genuinely surprised. "When?"
"Earlier today," Carlos says. He tries to wait for TK to connect what it possibly would be regarding but when it's silence for a while Carlos lets it out. "She was worried...about you...worrying about me." Carlos smiles softly.
"That's a lot of worrying," TK comments. He looks to Carlos to laugh it off and let it go but he doesn't. TK sighs and looks down at his hands and starts wringing them.
"TK..."
"What? I'm not allowed to worry?"
"No one is saying that," Carlos places his hand on top of TK's. His thumb massages TKs knuckles.
"It's just...it's too soon." TK says now gripping Carlos' hand "You didn't have enough time. You're not ready to go back."
"I'm not ready?" Carlos asks. "Or you're not ready for me to go back?"
"Both?" TK shrugs.
"TK, I told you-"
"I know what you told me, but you could just be saying that. You're always trying to hide how you feel and I get it but," Tk stops himself. "You don't have to bury it anymore."
"I know I have a history of doing that, but I promise you I'm ready."
TK opens his mouth but hesitates.
"You don't believe me," Carlos says.
TK sighs. "You don't get it. You died under me. "
"I don't get it?" Carlos asks. His voice is soft, no anger in his voice detected. "You don't think I worry any time you go on a call? With the track record of the 126. You don't think I worry every time Nancy calls like she did today? Thinking it'd be like the snowstorm."
TK tries to look away from Carlos' eyes, but Carlos moves his head so slightly to look back into them.
"TK you've almost died on me twice, at least once before we met, got kidnapped, and were in apparently 3 comas. I worry about you every minute of every day."
TK looks down but Carlos touches his chin to raise his face back up to his eye line.  "But I trust you and I know you're doing what you love, and I'd never stop you from it. So, I need you to trust me that I know I'm ready to get back and do what I love."
TK nods slowly. "Doesn't mean I'm going to stop worrying."
Carlos smiles. "I didn't say you had to. But you can't let it get in the way of work. Or of us."
TK sighs and smooths his hands over his legs. "Okay," he says softly.
"Okay," Carlos says back. He grabs TK's hand as he sands back up.
"I love you," TK says.
"I love you too," Carlos says back. "Now let's eat. I'm starving and if we hurry it might still be warm."
Now they wish it was all up from there, anxiety free days for both of them, but there will always be an added worry to both of them now every time they leave the house or part from each other. It's just how life goes. Some days TK gets in his head too much when Carlos doesn't answer the phone right away and Carlos still panics when Nancy calls him even if it's just to ask what snacks to bring for a loft hang after work. They both make promises to talk it out with each other if it gets too much and to never tell the other to quit or leave unless it was truly their best interest.
