The paradox ending (non-canon/bad ending/dream of Serah's) from Final Fantasy XIII-2 being very similar to the above scene from Kingdom Hearts II, that came out years before. A.K.A. I think this was a Kingdom Hearts II reference.

"i'm leaving her in your hands. take care of her. if he died, would someone protect her after? when he thought of it, he felt depressed. and… what if she died before he did? he was afraid of that, more than anything.” — noel kreiss, ffxiii-2 novels

caius dating noel's sibling
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pairing: caius ballad x gn!reader
tags: angst (it's caius, duh) with an open ending, ff13-2!caius, protective older brother!noel, enemies with romantic feelings
Tumblr media
within the dying world, there was barely anyone left. with only caius, noel, yeul and you living there, it was no surprise that caius and you ended up falling for one another
and your brother was supportive of your relationship with caius, as noel looked up to caius and saw him as a friend
life in the dying world wasn't the best, but as long as you had caius and were with your two friends, then everything would turn out fine, wouldn't it?
well, when caius suddenly left without a warning, that little peace you knew was suddenly ripped away from you. shortly after, yeul died too and you and your brother were transported to valhalla
the caius you saw there was nothing like the man you knew. at least, that's what you told yourself. that caius was a good person, not just some villain!
yet whenever you crossed paths with caius on your journey, you were left to wonder if caius was still the man you once fell in love with
as noel slowly gave up on caius, fully viewing him as a villain and determined to stop him, you desperately clung to the belief that caius would change again one day
that he might have a reason for all he was doing. that it was a good reason! that he was trying his best for a better world, for you and him to live in! but only caius could truly know what was going on in his head…

Playing XIII-2 for the first time in… probably close to a decade on my Series X, and I had legitimately forgotten just how gorgeous Caius is.

Not related toy ff16 streak, but i was reminded of the 13 trilogy lately, and i gotta say 13-2 was way better than what pple pretend it was, 13 story was amazing, i really liked the combat system as well, the only flaw was level design. 13-2 story isnt as convoluted as pple pretend it is, and tbh, fuck lightning return, everything about this game could be so good if not the fucking timers

PMMM/FF13-2 spoilers
Anyone else see a similarity between Homura Akemi and Caius Ballad?
Constantly meddling with timelines to save the one person they care about?
The weird pseudo-yandere vibes?
Watching their loved one die over and over which makes them even more determined?
"If I can't have her then no one else can"?
Planning to destroy all sense of time and history just to save their beloved (and Homura literally does)?
No? Just me? Ok...

key themes of ffxiii-2; as introduced in serah's teacher & children prologue chapters
ffxiii-2 (and the whole trilogy) centers the relationship between serah and her sister (mother) lightning. serah's adoption of the role of teacher is directly related to lightning's tutelage and raising of her, and doing so both honors her and pays forward the favor as serah exercises a maternal role herself. serah's establishment of a school and job as a teacher are also tied to education and free-thinking as pillars of uncomplacency and antifascism, continuing lightning's efforts in the prior game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. with the elevation of serah into a main character ffxiii-2 makes clear this journey is also about serah asserting her independence, thinking for herself, and second-guessing lightning's blind advice, as every daughter is bound to do in her lifetime.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. time heals but doesn't have to forgive, and the grief of losing a mother is forever. serah is not the only one who recognizes this. in recognizing and validating serah's irreplaceable loss, and understanding they'll never be a complete family without lightning, snow remains an ideal feminist partner.
