Something I really love about the Silt Verses is how, in a world of gods and monsters, how grounded Faulkner's trauma [and relationship with his father] is. Especially as the season moves on, and the stakes amp up [and up] its so unexpectedly piercing to be presented with this exploration of childhood abandonment/negligence, inter-generational trauma, the indignities and stress that comes with unexpected elder care/early onset Alzheimer's. You're so locked in to these grander, more abstract concepts that your defenses are down! Mine were, anyway. TSV is so good at cutting its grand, complex plotlines with simpler [but not shallower] gutpunches, and it just grounds the whole thing.

Hey so anyways do you think Charles made Edwin tea? Like before he knew about the whole ‘ghosts cant taste and everything just feels like sand when you try to eat’ thing. Do you think he felt guilty about not being as good as Edwin? Being a detective and a ghost has a steep learning curve and he just kept making stupid mistakes. So Charles made him tea, something his mother did for him after particularly bad interactions with his father, as a sort of apology, a promise to do better next time. Do you think Edwin who spent decades in hell and even before that was so unused to this kindness drank it? How long do you think it took before Charles made tea for himself and realized how terrible it was?

i genuinely love A Fantastic Fear of Everything. It's my favorite solo simon pegg film (film where he plays the main character and nick frost is nowhere to be seen) for a whole host of wonderfully conflicting reasons. this movie is useless garbage and drowning in meaning all at the same time. its lack of style consistency is its consistent style.

I hold firm the belief that art that confuses— makes you feel bad and weird— is just as enriching as art that brings you joy or puts you at ease. AFFoE does both. i love it so much.

Of course, it's only surface level similarities and upon looking deeper at the lore there are significant differences. But it is still funny how similar the basic premise is.

She brushes her fingers through his tightly-curled hair. It's getting long again, she notices. "It probably just caught some errant radio transmission; I've heard sometimes people think they have ghosts in their house when it's actually the metal trays being the right distance to catch them, for some science reason."

Restlessly, Jack adjusts the perch of his glasses on his nose. "Oh christ, Sangeet, but what if it's not? I mean, we have no way of knowing if parallel universes exist, and how fragile the boundaries between them are. There could be a whole multiverse of people who look and sound like me, yet are completely different people! Bobbys, assassins, hypnotists, government agents—" he shudders— "fathers. And what if some cosmic event is opening up a gateway to that unknowable infinite in our— in our oven, I guess?"

"Well then, Jack, I can't wait to hear their thoughts on my casserole."
