F01 residents are all named after demons

F02 residents are all named after Lovecraftian gods/monsters

F03 residents are named after gods from various mythologies associated with life and/or death, the underworld and human sacrifice

In f01 the nuking is just... one option. You can talk the master down. You can fight him yourself. There are several options and the nuke is just a last resort. In f02 you don't have a choice, but that's in direct contrast to the master in f01. You can't talk the enclave down. You have no choice but to kill Horrigan and blow the enclave up because they're thematically the opposites of the master. In new Vegas, launching the nukes is seen as a civilization wiper. It's very obviously bad that you're indiscriminately destroying one or both of the world's best attempts to crawl out of the mud because you personally disagree with their opinions (even if the legion sucks, who gave you the right to execute everyone who lives under their banner?), and even then, trying to stop it is sacrificing ed-e.

76 and 3+4 just go "aren't nukes great? Isn't atom power swell? Wouldn't you fuck an atom bomb if it was a woman? yeah, 1, 2, and NV have something to say with when there is the option to drop a bomb and when there is no choice but to have a bomb blow up, like with Frank Horrigan or Lonesome Road's setup. They carry a lot of intentionality with them and whether or not you think that works, I still respect the games immensely for actually injecting nuance into those decisions. They feel like they've got something to say with that. In contrast, I feel like the Bethesda-made ventures really hone in on the "wacky atom bomb" aesthetic wayyyy more than the other games did, like it's latching onto one aesthetic choice and letting it cannibalize everything else around. I can almost give a little credit to Fallout 3 for telling you that dropping a fucking bomb on a town for no reason is a bad idea that is evil, but that's also a choice for like. fuckin mustache twirling damsel-kidnapping no-good-doers, not a person. Unlike 1+2+NV, using any sort of story-important nuclear device feels like the game going "we need to meet our atom bomb quota" rather than the writers and game designers sitting down and asking what interesting questions and decisions can come from replicating the great disasters that brought about the setting. That Amuro and Bright post is hold for a bit. So instead let me ponder about the Messer MS line, specifically the movie version:

Me02R-F01 Messer Type-F01 and all its descendants

So this suit is the direct follow up to the Sazabi and the Geara Doga, and just like those two it is developed and sold by Anaheim Electronics. It is a formidable and chonky unit being pretty much equal to the Gustav Karl.

The actual specs from the HG manual put it at almost exact same height, power output as the Karl with the biggest difference being that the Messer has a slightly higher thrust strength.

Which makes sense we see the Messer actually get some work done in both the movie and the novels as opposed to the Gustav which needs the numbers advantage and complete lack of care for collateral damage to get anything done.

But the Messer has a great standout feature, since it was purpose built for in-atmo guerilla combat it's large backskirt is actually a stabilizer allowing for greater control during free fall, which makes avoiding collateral damage easier and makes the suit overall more maneuverable than than it's EFF counterpart.

Even before the movie started the suit was already developed further into two units:

The Me02R-F02 Messer Type-F02, which is almost exactly the same suit, with the only different being the flared out shin armor, which paired with the leg thrusters greatly improves the suits hover time.

And the Me02R-Fc Messer Type-F Naked, which is the Messer F01 but with a mounted head antenna and a small backpack thruster. The one we see in the movie is stripped of all it's weapons because it was being used to obtain the Gundam but due to the HGs manual we can assume that it would use a similar loadout to the others. This suit is painted pink and purple to probably stand out, and it's original pilot was Hathaway Noa.

The Type-F01 is piloted by Nobile Gawman in the movie, the Type-F02 is piloted by Golf and Fencer and the Type-F is piloted by Emeralda Zabin

I think that there's something to be said about how every suit under Mafty use is colored with that red and orange people associate with Char, every suit except those used by Hathaway. Mafty as an organization and Quack Salver specifically like that reputation that comes with being "the next coming of Char" which is not surprising. The problem is that Hathaway clearly has some disdain with being compared to Char, as well he is the reason that Hathaway is even in this mess.

But he gets out of it, by first having that commander unit painted a different color, more than likely under the justification that it's supposed to stand out to draw the fire to himself, and then second by getting the white Xi Gundam.

Now onto some fun facts about the suit:

1. Messer is knife in German.

2. Since the movie version is based on the Sazabi it's cockpit is located in the head, this can be seen in scene where Hathaway gets the Xi Gundam.

3. Nobuhiko Genma and Hajime Katoki both worked on designing the movie version of the Messer and according to the official Gundam Hathaway pamphlet they modified a model of the Sazabi for their own custom Messer.

4. The F02 and F Types HG's only released under P-Bandai with the F01 type being the retail version.
