How successful have the outlaw rehab centres been compared to banishment and execution that the wheatgrass guild performs?
Tumblr media
Keaton: Patients are more receptive to treatment than most would expect. See, crime, especially that which falls under the "petty" variety such as theft, often stems from a need not being met. The rehab centers offer resources to local support while focusing on educating pokemon on programs in their area meant to help with quality of life.
For some, it's not access to resources that they struggle with, but instead dealing with stigmatized mental health issues. It's easy for society to shun these individuals, which in turn leads to feelings of isolation and resentment. Rehabilitation can't always "cure" these conditions the way you can cure a physical ailment, but it can develop support groups of individuals that understand each other better than anyone else. For some even receiving a diagnosis, being able to put their experiences into words, is enough to help find their footing.
... But there are some pokemon that truly don't want help. Usually this option isn't presented until their third or fourth legal infraction, but if they don't accept their sentence to rehabilitation, they can choose between imprisonment or banishment. The latter option is only available for recurrent petty crime- major felonies such as murder lead straight to imprisonment. Rehabilitation services are still available in prison, but as you might suspect, the main difference is that pokemon cannot come and go as they please. The leniency our guild affords criminals can sometimes lead to trouble, but we operate under the idea that if we sow seeds of compassion, our society tomorrow will be brighter for it. The guildmaster deeply believes that there are no truly bad pokemon.

One more request/ask this time for aiekoy 🍑/🐻/🧡 could you write something on if baby and carm would get together if Mikey were still alive? Or just if they would cross paths and still never say anything? If you’re up to it if not no biggie- again congrats on 1k!🥳
ohhh i love this so much, giggling because i get to play with aiekoy cannon and i am living for it. gonna be honest i don’t even remember writing most of this but it is chaotic and i actually kinda love it.
this was going in so many different directions before this became my final thoughts, thank you for requesting and please enjoy!! 🫶🏽
warning(s): addiction | violence |
mikey lives, does barby?
in this scenario the only ‘aiekoy’ chapters that would still be canon are ch. 1-3, interlude 0-1 and any pre-aiekoy lore that i may not have published yet 🫣.
and for the sake of consistency, we’re throwing all ‘the bear’ canon out the window!
but now is where we start to change things, so we’ll say baby moves back to Chicago beginning of 2019 Christmas showed you just how much you missed being around your surrogate family and so we kiss the west coast goodbye.
and with baby back in town the trio (baby/nat/richie) with all the time they spend around mikey begin to realize like he needs serious help. his deterioration is so clear to anyone who looks at him that if things don’t change soon we all know what’s gonna happen.
it's a bit of back and forth cause mikey is stubborn as hell and he definitely doesn’t take kindly to his addiction being called out. man is feeling cornered right now.
i don’t think mikey would just agree to rehab out of nowhere, growing up as the man of the house i think he definitely has some underlying issues with toxic masculinity.
something big would have to happen for him to see the error of his ways like baby finding him just strung out in his office at the beef pills scattered everywhere and of course, it hurts you to see him this way.
so you begin like trying to dispose of the pills, searching his office for anything more and lecturing him because you love him ya know. obviously reasoning with an addict hardly if ever works.
sadly to say i think it would get a bit physically violent like mikey kind of just lashes out just like grips baby by the arms, and pins you to the wall so hard it alerts the staff.
and it's an ugly scene as richie pulls him off of you. you’re just standing there glued to the wall scared shitless as richie holds himself back from beating the shit out of mikey.
nat gets wind of the whole situation i feel like tina would definitely call her because wtf is going on with mikey?
a few weeks later baby’s distant with mikey, richie is genuinely physically disgusted anytime he’s around his best friend, and nat bless her heart is just trying to keep the family together. she explains what happened to mikey between the two of you because his memory is spotty and the man just breaks down like heaving sobs as he asks nat to help him get better.
they decide a long-term stint in rehab might work best, considering how long he’s been using and the toll his psychological state has taken we’ll say a 6 month program that as it progresses the whole gang will be involved in family counseling sessions.
baby and richie obviously go with nat to drop mikey off setting aside their issues with him (you obviously haven’t forgiven his transgression yet but you want to be there for him) and the whole thing is so emotional i’m talking group hug full of sobs and snot this shit is heartbreaking. but mikey’s adamant that he wants the help.
baby definitely thinks someone should tell carmy but both richie and nat are iffy about it and they table that conversation for the time being.
fast forward a few months mikey is in rehab detoxing and participating in counseling sessions, they aren’t allowed to contact him yet but they do get weekly updates on his well-being.
baby is in new york for work profiling executive chef alex johannes (he didn’t have a name in the show so now he does) about his work ethic and michelin stars or some shit.
he invites you to the restaurant hours before the dinner service so you can observe him and the kitchen during prep and this man is laying the charm on thick!
he’s definitely scummy and you’re genuinely fed up with him so you tell him you need to walk around to get a feel for the kitchen but you just want to be rid of him.
you’re doing your cute journalist thing taking notes, trying to talk to chefs about what the kitchen environment is like working under alex but these people are giving you nothing!
there’s a commotion at one of the prep stations and you’re obviously curious the whole kitchen is trying to pretend they aren’t watching this shit go down.
and you’re just listening to this poor chef get verbally abused as they’re working on their prep, jotting all this down in your little notepad.
but the sight of the chef slamming a cutting board against the counter has you flinching and you just can’t let that happen irritation radiating through you at this bully you’ve been assigned to profile.
you’ve seen enough stepping up to defend the poor chef with a few choice words to the older man ultimately getting in a verbal argument with him and being sent out of his kitchen, but not before he makes the poor chef join you, and whatever bravado you had to rip that asshole a new one is gone as carmen fucking berzatto begins walking in your direction shoving past you to get to the staff lounge.
what are the fucking odds that you end up at the same exact restaurant carmy works at after being ghosted by him again that one christmas. (I’d say they’re great since I’m writing this)
you’re standing there in shock for a minute before turning on your heel to find the man.
he’s pacing back and forth hand pressing into the space where his heart lay. as soon as he sees you he’s hurling questions your way; “what the fuck are you doing here?” “why the fuck couldn’t you just mind your business?” “he didn’t need your fucking help.” blah blah blah.
your anger from earlier is back and you’re just like alright bet “guess it’s still fuck me right carm?” grabbing your bag and getting the fuck outta dodge.
you don’t make it far before carmy finds you, the man doesn’t apologize but he asks you to stop by when he gets off.
you’re a loser for carm so you do. he’s takes you back to his place, it’s awkward as fuck but you finally give in and tell him about what’s going on in Chicago, mikey’s addiction, the “fight” you had with mikey at the beef, him being in rehab.
and carmy is surprised as fuck, to say the least, he tells you that he’s miserable in new york. feels like the restaurant might kill him before his anxiety ever could.
neither of you are sure how any of it happens but the next thing you know you’re naked under him giving into pent-up desires, promises whispered into each other’s skin.
you can’t stay in new york forever but the both of you decide it is for the best not to start anything with all the distance between you.
you try talking carmy into moving back to Chicago and homeboy actually gives it some thought.
after that the two of you are in constant contact like not a day goes by without a phone call or text.
you’re back in chicago mikey’s been doing good in rehab, the family counseling sessions are going well. next thing you know his 6 months are up and he’s out.
you talk carmy into visiting for a bit, he and mikey def have things to work out.
surprise surprise, COVID hits carmy gets stuck in Chicago (man is not complaining though if that means he gets to see you)
you get a roommate who doubles as a lover and everything goes from there!!!
Tumblr media
a/n: reading this is so chaotic it actually made me giggle. on a serious note in no way am i saying all addicts are violent or have violent tendencies but from my experiences that has been the case. also i think canonically (7 fishes ep) that mikey did have violent tendencies whether it be the drugs or not.

More bad movies:
LATENCY (2024): What's duller than watching someone else play video games? This tedious sci-fi horror story about an agoraphobic gamer named Hana (Sasha Luss), whose only real human contact is her friend Jen (Alexis Ren), going off the deep end after getting the opportunity to try a new AI-powered headset that she can use to operate game controls and other technology with her thoughts alone. Soon, of course, she's having disturbing hallucinations suggesting that she's being haunted, or even possessed. Luss is not nearly a good enough actor to carry what's almost a one-woman show — particularly one so thinly plotted — and the attempts at spooky reality-bending are rendered completely pointless by the idiotic premise, which recalls terrible pre-MATRIX movies of the '90s about virtual reality. Critics have praised the visual effects, but on home video, even with the brightness turned way up, the film is so underlit that I couldn't discern about half of it. About the only vaguely interesting point is a brief attempt to visualize the experience of having the game TETRIS seep into one's dreams; the finale also has some very weak echoes of MULHOLLAND DRIVE that only serve to remove the story's one remaining vestige of emotional reality. CONTAINS LESBIANS? At one point Jen teases Hana for inviting her into her bedroom without offering her anything interesting to do. VERDICT: Conceptually bankrupt and weakly executed; if there's an intelligent movie to be made about gaming as a phenomenon, this certainly isn't it.
THE OUTRUN (2024): Extremely dreary recovery drama, based on a memoir by Amy Liptrot (who co-scripted), about a young biologist, here called Rona (Saoirse Ronan), who retreats to Orkney after blowing up her academic career due to her struggles with alcohol while living in London. Paapa Essiedu costars as her former boyfriend Daynin. There's a scene about a half-hour in where the protagonist checks herself into an abstinence-only rehab program whose organizer declares, with appalling misplaced pride, that only 10 percent of participants will make it; I started feeling similarly about this movie, which is much like being caught in a heavy rain while on foot far from home, wearing sneakers with cracked soles. Ronan is quite good, but while Liptrot has praised the film as "fresh and authentic," every scene is a miserable slog — not even the scenery is pleasant, and its paean to 12-step programs (which substantial research now demonstrates are statistically worse than useless) made me itch. CONTAINS LESBIANS? No. VERDICT: I'm glad Liptrot got something worthwhile out of this, but you won't. Photosensitive viewers should be aware that there are some flashing light sequences in nightclub flashbacks (the worst starting around 40 minutes in).
THE SUBSTANCE (2024): Unsubtle, frequently disgusting sci-fi horror story from French writer-director Coralie Fargeat, about an aging TV fitness star, Elizabeth Sparkle (Demi Moore), using a mysterious new bio-engineering kit that allows her to create a younger, hotter version of herself, "Sue" (Margaret Qualley) — vapid, selfish, hypersexual, and irresistible to every man she meets — whom she can become for seven days at a time. It doesn't take long, however, before she violates the stringent rules that governs the process, and soon her two selves are at war, with horrific results. The first half is a deliberately paced, unsettling, and potent (if obvious and heavy-handed) statement about gender, beauty, and aging, overlapping somewhat with the gayer but more muddled LOVE LIES BLEEDING, albeit with more, and ickier, body horror. Unfortunately, about halfway through, Fargeat loses interest in trying to be creepy or thought-provoking in favor of escalating grossness, which culminates in an absurdly icky finale drenched in literal geysers of blood. CONTAINS LESBIANS? No, and it's curiously disinterested in the erotic implications of the premise, handcuffed by its own very conservative sexual politics. VERDICT: Visceral and visually striking, but ultimately not as audacious as it would like to be, and very, very gross. Be warned: The squeamish need not apply, and if you struggle with eating disorder, you should approach this film with extreme caution, if at all.
SUNDAY BLOODY SUNDAY (1971): Critically acclaimed but unrewarding and very gloomy British drama about a 30-something divorced mother (Glenda Jackson) and a 50-something gay Jewish doctor (Peter Finch) carrying on separate but parallel affairs with the same younger man (Murray Head), who's ultimately not willing to give either of his lovers the kind of time or energy they want from him. A downbeat, thinly plotted slice of life, its basic thesis is that youthful notions of love and freedom are fundamentally incompatible with the weight of middle-aged responsibility, a point hammered home by Finch in the fourth-wall-breaking final scene. It's (otherwise) realistically rendered, with the basic premise treated with a refreshing lack of nervous tittering, but it's so glum that it's always kind of a drag, and the Head character is never allowed even half the dimensionality of his older partners. CONTAINS LESBIANS? No. VERDICT: Put me off for various personal reasons from the very first shot, and its sexual politics are as cheerless and inflexible as Margaret Atwood's, which is not a compliment.

INTRODUCTION: AYDEN HOOK 🪝
name: ayden hook
occupation: owner of "pandemonium" a burlesque club
birthday: july 14th, 1996 (28 years old)
pronouns: he/him
residency: carriage falls
hometown: california
faceclaim: paul mescal
BIOGRAPHY
triggers: abortion mention, mention of drugs and alcohol, drug-related death, mention of adult films.
Ayden was born an only child to James and Hannah. His father was an esteemed film producer who introduced Ayden to the film industry and made his love of cinema grow. His mother was an actress whose relationship with James wasn't meant to go beyond a short, spontaneous sexual relationship. Hannah's original decision was to have an abortion the night she found out she was pregnant, but James offered her a lifechanging sum of money to go through with the pregnancy and childbirth. Their relationship became nothing more than a transaction from that point on.
After Hannah gave birth, she took off. There was always a part of James that hoped she would change her mind and stay. James did his best not to take the rejection out on Ayden, he was always seen as a blessing. However, human emotions are difficult to predict and navigate at times, and James wound up burying himself in work. He tried to make Ayden a part of it. He brought him around the world, to every movie set and introduced him to all the stars. But more times than not, he would be left alone in hotel rooms, seated in front of a television, watching make-believe families, wondering why he didn't have siblings, a mother, or a real home himself.
As a teenager, his father thought he could help utilize their time together and Ayden began his acting career, starring in a few commercials and then appearing in TV shows and movies. After three years of working, he realized he would never become a star. He was always in the background and never had enough lines. The only upside was the friends he was making and the parties they would drag him to. By eighteen, acting was the farthest thing from his mind. The only thing he cared about were the Hollywood parties. He was on every drug, in every low-level gossip column, consequently dragging his father's name through the mud. Unsure of what to do, James cut his son off and forced him to attend a live-in rehab program. It was either that or he loses his trust fund.
His father's plan was executed perfectly because two years later, Ayden was out and clean. He wanted to get back into the movie business but decided he didn't want to be an actor himself. So at twenty one, he used his trust fund to kickstart his own movie production company. Only he wasn't producing normal movies, they were adult films. The business took off and Ayden became one of the largest producers of adult-rated movies in less than a year. However, with its success and the kind of business it was, the partying and the debauchery restarted. Ayden relapsed and convinced one of his actresses to join him. He didn't know, but the drug he offered her was laced and she died after snorting it. His father was so irate, he considered cutting ties with his son completely. But instead, he helped cover up the incident with his money and then exiled his son to Wilmington. It's where Ayden was conceived during one of James and Hannah's many vacations together. This was his final attempt to help his son clean up his life.
Ayden has been in Wilmington for a couple of years now and just recently started up another business, but this time moving away from film. However, he still has an eye for sex appeal and glamor. He's in love with the entertainment business and channeled that love into opening a burlesque club. His father would be proud. Everything is on the up-and-up — or is it?
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
friends: ayden could use friends of any kind! best friends, acquaintances, coworkers, exes turned friends, etc.
employees: if anyone wants to work at his burlesque club! that would be dope.
father: if anyone wants to play his father who's a bigtime movie producer, i wouldn't be opposed lol
enemies: i love banter, so if anyone wants to go back and forth with ayden, exchanging tit-for-tat, that would be fun
good influence: someone who's trying to help him steer clear of his former lifestyle and make sure he succeeds
bad influence: someone who's maybe a party goer who doesn't mind pushing ayden's boundaries when it comes to his sobriety

Please info dump about this new au I'm curious
EEEEEEEEEE ok!! 🥰🥰
Uhhhh some CWs before we start, tho. This is gonna delve into some hella unethical shit. Vast moral crimes against cybertronian kind. This coild probably be labeled as DD. Read at your own volition, my apologies to the traumatized 😊
So, first and foremost, I'm picturing this in like. A mash up of Aligned and IDW. A much darker feel right off the bat
The war is over and the autobots were victorious. They've got decepticon high command is custody, currently held in stasis for everyone's safety. Optimus is already stretched thin governing his armies and making important decisions about resettling Cybertron. Buildongs will have to be torn down and rebuilt, temporary residence for anyone returning, locating energon wells, getting the senate back up and running, etc. He doesn't have time to properly think about what to do with the cons. Their people are so few, less than 10% of the original population still lives. Execution is not something he wants to entertain. Wasting even a single spark after they've just grasped their peace will not set a good precedent for the future they're building.
But his autobots are anxious. Yeah, even the really dangerous ones like Megatron and Starscream and even Soundwave aren't a threat while they're frozen in cryosleep, but there's the worry that rebel decepticons will try to break them out. That the war will resume when their enemies cannot accept defeat. He needs to make a decision on what to do with them, if not killing them, and the solution presents itself in the form of a brand new project dreamed up by the bots:
The Repopulation Project
There are so few of them, and many frame types are teetering on the edge of extinction. Seekers, for example, lost an estimsted 95% of their total population in the famous bombing of Vos. Now there's less than a thousand of them left. They're critically endangered, and will go extinct if something isn't done.
The Repop Project is proposed in a very sweet, flowery way: the decepticons can be rehabilitated into polite society, and they'll be helping bolster the numbers of Cybertron's citizens. The new generation of war frames will be born in an autobot controlled world, and raised correctly so they don't turn into bloodthirsty monsters like their parents. Up against the wall and with no other options, Optimus offers the captive cons an ultimatum: agree to be absorbed into the repop, or execution
In order to evade being put to death, Megatron agrees, of course planning to start another uprising as soon as physically possible.
...unfortunately for him, the autobots (without going through Prime. Looking at you, Prowl >.>) have him mnemosurgeried and shadowplayed. Same with Starscream and Soundwave, regardless of what they want or chose. Seekers, as we discussed, are critically endangered, and Starscream is the last remaining member of the Vosian royal family. He still has a lot of sway over the entire seeker population, and they'll assumably follow his lead and sign themselves over the program. Soundwave is capable of hosting symbiotes and he's even rarer than Starscream--there's only one other left in Blaster. The two of them are the last of their kind, they need to reproduce asap.
On official documents the repopulation project encampments are called Rehab Facilities and Nurseries, because that sounds way better from a legal perspective than a baby mill populated by prisoners of war.
Decepticons are divided up into their frame types and shipped off to different locations, each either installed with coding so they can't fight back, or having their memories and negative feelings removed to make them more complicit. Regardless, thanks to them, there's a baby boom and the population peaks sharply. The high quality sparklings are taken from their parents (kiddos that are born with blue optics and civilian frames) to be raised by autobot families that want to adopt them. Poor quality bitties (i.e. infrared optics and ones with their carrier's warframe type) are sent to specific nursery facilities meant to raise them
Now, Cybertron's society is basically being built up from scratch, but there is a solid foundation. There's a lot of old culture, and a lot of the autobots came from priveleged places and want their home to look comfortably similar to how it was before the decepticon uprising. So, the senate is reinstated. The original 13 seats are filled by anyone who could run a convincing campaign and win enough votes. Optimus oversees the council as the Prime, but leaves any and all decisions left up to a majority vote. That's fair, he thinks. This is democracy, he thinks. He doesn't want to be a monarch. Whatever the people widely decide on is how it should be.
That opens up the door to a lot of fuckery. In the original proposal it was written that after X amount of time, the cons in the repop project could be placed on probation and eventually be reacclimated intk society. That's one of the first things to go: the new senate stacks up a bunch of requirements, like having to pass a psych eval, taking citizenship tests, publicly declaring their separation from their faction, and even having to undergo mnemosurgery, just to make sure they aren't harboring any thoughts of revolution. It's borderline impossible for anyone to meet all of the requirements, and even if they did, they just keep pushing the time requirements back more and more. The hope is that, eventually, their bodies will start to wear down from being forced to pop out sparkling after sparkling, and they'll die in hospice before they can be released.
It only gets worse from there. More and more restrictions are put into place, until eventually all of the undesirables of Cybertron are held in these facilities, out of sight, out of mind, while the vast majority of autobots start regaining the lives they lived before the war
Now... this isn't ideal at all, but Optimus only sees what they choose to show him. The facilities he visits are glistening and clean, all of the carriers held within them seem happy looking after their shared groups of bitties, and the sparklings are healthy. Running around and playing, laughing and drinking good fuel. He can accept this
Unfortunately, feeding and caring for them isn't cheap. Energon is still being rationed because, surprise surprise, mining is backbreaking work that most civilian frames aren't capable of doing very efficiently.
They can't just kill all of them, so the senate decides why not outsource the war frame sparklings? Using the adults is out of the question, they're wicked decepticons, we can't have them wandering outside of their facilities! So it falls to the repopulation project's first generation of children to pick up the slack. Once they hit the youngling stage they're already bigger than most civilians, and they're only war frames. What's the harm in a little child labor? Look, see, the kids are happy to do it, serving their community that wouldn’t even need serving if their evil parents had just stayed in their place and hadn't ripped Cybertron apart
So, war frame sparklings are now being dragged out of their facilities to be put to work in the mines beneath the charred remnants of the southern cities, under what used to be the decepticon capital and strongholds. All of it is scheduled to be torn down and razed to make room for new living quarters for the returning autobots.
It just gets slowly worse from there. As the years tick by, Optimus loses more and more power, and by the time several generations have past and the senate is just as corrupt as it was before, it's too late. All of the original decepticons have died out, leaving behind children that were forbidden from being educated about the war. They're kept in the dark, kept away from society, in their isolated encampments so no one has to see them. No one on the senate will hear their Prime's words, as they have no need to obey him. After all, he declared at the very beginning that he was not to be a soverign ruler. That no Prime could be a monarch. That the senate's decisions were what mattered, as they were chosen representatives of the people. He can't do anything.
The matrix is demanding to be released; it has chosen a new host, evidently, though if it's because he's just too old to fight anymore or if it's because it has deemed him a failure, he can't decide. The new Prime is a young mech barely into his adult body, a fiery red and yellow kid that matches neither of his parents, and at the ceremony to pass on the torch OP mournfully wonders where he was born. Who he was born to. Who he could have become.
When Rodimus comes to power the repopulation project is way past the point of necessity. There's plenty of war frames, plenty of all frames, on Cybertron. What were originally rehab facilities have twisted over millions of years, and have been completely reformatted into an entirely new, sinister system.
War frames are so very, very rarely seen in public. There are no war frame cities anymore. 90% of their population lives specifically within the specialized facilites that have warped into farms. Farms that mass produce and cultivate heavy duty workers for mining, to be bodyguards for the elite, to become gladiator pit fighters, and as cheap, tradable slave labor to be used wherever they are needed until they die. There are other, high quality farms that use warframes to produce a number of commodities that have become necessities in this new society: there are some that raise and harvest sparklings for their vital and non-vital organs when they become of age, some that are meant to be living bloodbags so their robust internal defense systems can be bestowed upon the general public, and to later have their bodies melted down and used in a number of projects. They use the living metal and special polymers to make high quality replacement limbs and to build hyper-useful drones, primarily. There's even farms that specifically breed and raise particularly pretty frame types as, essentially, mail-order brides for the wealthy and powerful to purchase.
It's become a horrible, miserable dystopian nightmare. Half of their people have become nothing but livestock, and Optimus doesn't even recognize his home anymore
...
And there's the basic backstory! The actual plot takes places on future Cybertron, and I would love to talk about it if any of ya'll are curious ^-^

About the Finch Twins: (tw: mentions of addiction & alcoholism)
Although not the first Finch children, Stephanie and Shawn happily complete the mighty and makeshift Finch family. Born two years after their older sister, June, Steph and Shawn were born on a truly lovely day in August. The two leos entered the world exactly one minute and twenty-five seconds apart. Stephanie first and then Shawn. Though Steph likes to joke that the only reason that happened was because Shawn pushed her. The twins were the result of Percy’s first marriage with a woman named Symone, a long time business partner of his from Paris. They were in love at first and eventually they realized that while the love was deep, they weren’t as in love as they could be. But they held off on officially divorcing until the kids were 13 and still very much enjoyed their marriage and their life together. To this day they remain extremely close and Symone has been a huge part in helping to raise not only the twins but June as well. Percy is certain Symone likes Mollie more than she likes him most days anyway.
Despite growing up with what was basically two mothers and one father (the twins like to refer to Mollie as their bonus mom) they have always felt the deep love that all children deserve. They grew up close, always following their oldest sister around, always living it up at one of their father’s events. They were happy and curious kids.
Stephanie has always been a go getter. Unlike her twin, if she says she’ll do something then she will. If she says she wants something then she will do anything she can to get it. She’s always been a fairly confident individual and when her own sports career didn’t pan out, she became interested in the business side of things. She wants to be a sports agent one day, helping athletes, primarily women, make good money and get even better deals. She can often be found court side at a Chicago Sky or Bulls game since she’s especially interested in basketball but the Cubs, Bears, Blackhawks and Red Stars still get a lot of her love. Especially since her father still has season tickets for the Cubs. Whenever she’s out and about, she’s likely to have at least one of her siblings with her if not both. She’s currently pursuing her Masters in Sports Management. Though the Finch twins spent a lot of time traveling, they primarily grew up in Rosewood and went to Rosewood Academy. Steph went to Columbia for undergrad and has returned to Ravenwood for her graduate program. She’s also a happily practicing lesbian who has not had a solid relationship since her sophomore year of college! Similar to her father who is now in the process of his third divorce.
Shawn is all about the planning and terrible at the execution. While his sister was busy making her whole life plan, Shawn was busy living in the moment. He’s always been more interested in fun and partying than a career which explains why he’s graduating almost two years later than he was supposed to. Shawn’s addiction began in high school when he was spending a lot of time going to Rosewood parties, New York parties, any fashion show after party he could sneak into. Drugs and alcohol were a constant for him and at first it was manageable, until it wasn’t. His sisters tried to intervene but it just led him to being more secretive until he woke up in the hospital one morning during his senior year of high school, his moms and father and siblings standing around. Since then he’s been to rehab twice and it was through his second rehab program that was out of state where he started to explore carpentry and specifically woodworking and furniture making. It became his outlet and when he finally returned home it started to become a hobby that soon turned into a side gig and small Etsy shop. As of today, Shawn has been sober for 11 months and has been planning to try to find a safe way to celebrate his upcoming year celebration of sobriety. He already knows his sisters are probably planning something. (They are.) It’s the longest stretch of time he’s been sober since high school. He's currently trying to finish up his bachelor's degree after being on leave for almost two years from school. Also still a devoutly practicing bisexual.
Both of the twins currently live at home in their family’s house in Rosewood.

Get the Best Rehabilitation Centre in Delhi for Alcohol Addiction
Tumblr media
Addiction treatment by the alcohol rehabilitation centre in Delhi is planned to help dependent people stop habitual medication chasing and use. Season Two Of The Sunshine Place Premieres; In The Room W/ Peter Bergen On Election Trust
Today, we have two podcasts that shine the light on two disparate nooks of our society. The Sunshine Place investigates atough-love teen rehab called Straight Incorporated. Then, journalist extraordinaire Peter Bergen restores our faith in election integrity with one Michigan clerk who is on a mission to restore the trust that’s been lost.
**************************************************
Audacy Podcasts, in partnership with Team Downey and Wink Pictures, have announced the launch of the second season of the award-winning investigative documentary podcast series The Sunshine Place.
Tumblr media
Season Two of The Sunshine Place tells the story of Straight Incorporated, unconventional and tough-love teen rehab that preyed on the fear of parents and the vulnerability of their children and spawned the troubled teen industry we know today. Synanon, the subject of Season One, is widely considered to be the original influence for Straight Inc. and for other rehab programs that employed similar tactics and behavior modification techniques. The Sunshine Place Season Two is Executive Produced by Robert Downey Jr., Susan Downey, and Emily Barclay Ford for Team Downey, together with Josh McLaughlin for Wink Pictures, and Maddy Sprung-Keyser, Jenna Weiss-Berman, and Leah Reis-Dennis for Audacy Podcasts.
The Sunshine Place Season Two launched with the first two episodes on October 30, 2024, on the Audacy app and everywhere podcasts are available. New episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays through December 11, 2024. Listen and follow the show here.
“As we were wrapping up Season One of The Sunshine Place, we uncovered a startling connection: a link between Synanon, the origins of Straight Incorporated, and the troubled teen industry that still thrives today, said Susan Downey and Robert Downey Jr., Team Downey. “Through riveting first-person accounts, we’re once again able to understand how vulnerable families seeking solutions to complicated problems can lead to dangerous consequences.”
Launched in the 1980s against the backdrop of the war on drugs, Straight Inc. was endorsed by First Lady Nancy Reagan and spotlighted by a televised visit from Princess Diana. The program swept the nation, but survivors of Straight tell a very different story — one of abuse, torture, and brainwashing. The eight-episode series is narrated by author and teen life coach Cyndy Etler, herself a survivor of Straight Inc. Guests include other survivors, many of whom are still recovering and telling their unflinchingly candid stories for the first time.
Check out season two of The Sunshine Place.

In the Room with Peter Bergen On One Man's Mission To Win Back Election Trust
Tumblr media
Don't get turned off because Peter Bergen is from CNN. This guy is good. Very good. Look at his photo below. He could be the protagonist or villain in any John LeCarre or Robert Ludlum spy novel. I think Bergen even knows Jason Bourne.
The conceit of the podcast is that Listeners go “in the room” with Peter Bergen as he presses his contacts for accurate, on-the-ground information to help his listeners contextualize and understand the impact of these stories on their lives through a quality, trustworthy, and engaging lens.
On the most recent episode of In the Room with Peter Bergen, Ottawa County, Michigan's Clerk and Register of Deeds Justin Roebuck joins Bergen to discuss election voting integrity, voter's skepticism around the country, especially in Michigan, and Roebuck's efforts to restore faith in elections.
Justin Roebuck has a license plate that says "I voted." He first began volunteering as an election worker at age 16. Now, he oversees the election process in Ottawa County. But not everyone in his county shares his faith in the voting system. Like election officials all around the United States, he’s gotten accustomed to a high degree of skepticism about his integrity — and the elections he oversees. And he’s on a mission to restore the trust that’s been lost. So how did trust break down? And what’s at stake if it can’t be restored in a place like Ottawa County? The episode “In One Michigan County, There’s a Republican Fighting to Restore Faith in Elections” is out now on Audible and the SiriusXM app.

Sober Companion- A Lifeline for Lasting Recovery and Relapse Prevention
A sober companion is a professional who provides one-on-one support and guidance to individuals recovering from addiction. Their primary role is to help clients stay on track with their recovery goals by offering personalized care, emotional support, and accountability during vulnerable phases. Sober companions are often hired by individuals or their families to help prevent relapse after rehab, during life transitions, or while managing stressors that may trigger substance use.
Key Responsibilities of a Sober Companion
Emotional and Mental Support: Recovery can be emotionally challenging, and sober companions offer a non-judgmental space where clients feel supported. They assist with coping strategies and help clients manage cravings, anxiety, or other emotional stressors.
Daily Structure and Routine Management: A sober companion helps develop healthy routines that encourage sobriety. This includes structuring the day with productive habits, setting goals, or engaging in physical activities. They may also attend 12-step meetings or therapy sessions with the client to ensure consistency.
Crisis Intervention: During moments of emotional turmoil or potential relapse triggers, sober companions intervene to redirect the client’s focus. Whether the client feels overwhelmed or tempted to use substances, the companion offers immediate support to manage these high-risk situations.
Travel and Event Support: Sober companions often accompany clients to social events, family gatherings, or business trips. These environments can present temptations, and having a sober companion ensures the individual stays aligned with their recovery goals in unfamiliar or stressful settings.
Accountability Partner: They keep clients accountable by tracking their progress, ensuring they stick to their recovery programs, and offering feedback when challenges arise. This consistent oversight helps build self-discipline and reinforces positive behaviors.
Who Can Benefit from a Sober Companion?
Sober companions are particularly beneficial for individuals transitioning from rehabilitation programs back to their daily lives. They’re also effective for people facing high-pressure environments, such as executives, artists, or athletes, where stress can trigger substance abuse. Additionally, clients who prefer more personalized care rather than group-based support may find a sober companion more effective in maintaining sobriety.
The Importance of a Sober Companion in Long-Term Recovery
The transition from structured rehab to everyday life is a vulnerable period when many individuals face relapse risks. A sober companion helps bridge that gap by providing 24/7 support during these critical moments. Their presence can be invaluable, especially when triggers or cravings unexpectedly surface. For people in recovery, establishing new routines and learning to navigate life without substances requires time and effort, and a sober companion ensures they don’t have to go through it alone.
How to Choose a Sober Companion
When hiring a sober companion, it's essential to consider the following factors:
Experience and Credentials: Look for companions with a background in recovery support or psychology. Some may have certifications in addiction counseling.
Compatibility: Recovery is a deeply personal journey, so it’s important to find a companion with whom the client feels comfortable and understood.
Availability: Depending on the client’s needs, some companions offer full-time, live-in services, while others provide part-time or periodic support.
References: Ask for recommendations or client testimonials to ensure the companion has a track record of success in maintaining sobriety for others.
Conclusion
A sober companion plays a crucial role in ensuring individuals remain committed to their recovery goals. Whether it’s offering emotional support, preventing relapse, or accompanying clients through life’s challenges, they provide a lifeline that makes sobriety sustainable. With their presence, people in recovery gain not just a mentor but also a trusted partner to navigate life’s ups and downs without relying on substances.

All of the above. Some people can be rehabilitated by work programs, such as people who were arrested for financially motivated crimes. Others can be rehabilitated by providing them community support, like those in gangs. Others, still, can be rehabilitated by providing structure and adrenaline pumping situations like firefighting that help their brains fire correctly so they're not burned out losers strung out on drugs and skipping child support payments (hi, cuz! Proud of you!).
But prison is also meant to be a punishment and deterrent. You screwed up. You abused other people and have forfeited your own rights. You are now, by your own action, subhuman. You get to feel the pain of what you wanted to do to others.
And prison is there to stop people who are too dangerous from being on the street. There is an alarming amount of data that shows violent offenders (male violent offenders specifically) will usually grow out of it when they're 32. So if an 20-year old beats up a gas station clerk multiple times, toss him in prison for a little over a decade and he'll come out a functional member of society.
But also, prison should be abolished for most people. If you're guilty of the above crimes, you get the appropriate punishment for your crimes. Labor prison/forced job training, mental rehab, impermanent resting until your brain works right. But if you are a repeat offender, a serial rapist, a pedophile, a murderer — someone who can never be returned to society, you should be executed on the spot.
We ask your questions so you don’t have to! Submit your questions to have them posted anonymously as polls.
