the thing is I already know that men and society at large hate women. I know that young men in particular increasingly skew right and towards misogyny (I've read the articles, although all I really need to do is spend any time on any part of the internet to see the evidence). but then every so often something like this happens where it still somehow surprises me. like my god.. they really hate us this much.
#also the thing that's supposed to be a glimmer of hope is that younger generations are more progressive#and you can tell yourself that as time goes on that will reflect in society#but when for example the exit polls suggest a massive discrepancy in young men vs young women voters#it feels like jesus what's the point these men in our own age category are just growing up learning to hate us#talking

You don't wish your disability was worse or more visible, you wish your disability was taken seriously. Please stop confusing the two, I guarantee you would not get the support you need JUST by being more severe or more visible. Please listen to visibly disabled people when we tell you it isn't better on our side
#m/cc#mine#I tried extremely hard to word this nicely because I KNOW people don't mean bad and often even know there are unique challenges#and believe me I know the challenges of invisible disability too!!#I have invisible disabilities!#but as someone who has also been at least visibly 'off' since they were 10 I am SO SICK of invisible disabilities being hailed as like#a unique extra oppression that us lucky visibly disabled people don't have to deal with#there are challenges to invisible disabilities that visibly disabled people DON'T have to deal with!#but you need to understand that *the reverse is also true*#there are MASSIVE benefits to being able to lie about your disability for example#or not dealing with the overt ableism that comes with your disability being obvious to everyone#*I do not have the option to pretend I'm not disabled.* that is never an option I have#I walk weirdly. I use a mobility aid now. my speech and face are 'off.' I lean to one side#for a long time I wore sunglasses 24/7 and often didn't make sense. I sometimes can't speak or won't react to others#for the most part people will always know that at the very least something is wrong with me#and more obviously I have people telling me they'll pray for me; telling me I can't do things I'm already in the process of doing;#wanting to shake my hand to tell me I'm an inspiration for not killing myself; giving me dirty looks for existing in public#and yes. I'm aware that this is very much an in-community issue. I know the average abled person doesn't know invisible disabilities exist#that's why there's so much awareness happening for it#but as a visibly disabled person I get SO TIRED of constantly hearing 'I wish my disability was visible :'('#it's just 'I wish I had your disability!' but from other disabled people

i also just want to point out the qsmp members' commitment to like never letting the inactive members die. like dantdm logged on twice and is canonically dead and everyone continues to blame mysterious happenstance on him. spreen is canonically dead and yet people are still like namedropping him even tho the house façade he built has been demolished and also probably consumed by a mountain. they meme on kameto who's barely been on except that time he was a fed spy that was iconic as hell. they just immortalize their members and they're always so happy to see old faces come back and it lowkey makes me emotional lmfaoo like missa barely logged on for a while but goddamn nobody forgot his name bc philza can't go one day without mentioning him and mariana barely logs on but every time fit saw the homeless mariana in roier's city no matter what he'd stop dead and tell it "come home" and when slime came back to the server for elections after having logged off for the last like two months everyone was still excited to meet him bc the others had kept his memories on the server fresh and alive, maxo died canonically in the nuke and pierre pasted his face all over the server, luzu vanished for months and we never forgot him either thanks to the computers and foolish's wack ass family tree. like when purgatory teams were chosen and team red constantly joked about how it would be so over for the other teams once germán logged on despite the fact that germán had only ever logged on ONCE, the way they cheered when they snatched rubius in the split of green despite the fact that rubius hadn't logged on more than twice since march. they just keep the names alive all the time and it's like
it just makes me really happy to see. like it makes me really happy. like the admin team and the members alike are like 'no way in HELL are we letting your memory go' like damn once ur on isla quesadilla you really are stuck as an islander forever :D
#qsmp#shut up vic#block game brainrot#not gonna put this in the main body because 🤢 but also#filler tag filler tag ravioli ravioli you must hit read more to see this#the hatsune miku jokes to keep a member's memory alive during a long hiatus are also an example of this effect#anyway i really hope the server can continue and the issues are resolved#bc i'd really love to see pol back on the server like genuinely#there's more examples obviously and not all of them are ones i can remember#but just. i mean even the dead eggs whose admins aren't even on the team anymore#every month bad and dapper made a point to visit their graves and remember them (sometimes with company)#it's like holy shit fucking goddamn it hits me in the chest seriously#sorry for the massive unbroken paragraph that's how the thought looks in my head too so i opted not to break it up

not romantic or platonic but a secret third thing (bonded pair)
#I think more character dynamics should be described as bonded pairs#are two characters very attached to each other in a way that's hard to define? bonded pair.#are two characters rarely seen in a scene without each other? bonded pair#do two characters get anxious when separated? bonded pair#I don't mean this in a weird way I mean it in the way cats will be bonded when at a shelter together or something#this can apply to so many characters I think#regardless of whether they're romantic or platonic or whatever#most necrocav duos in tlt for example#and too many duos in fma to count#like obviously knowing me im thinking about greedling#but also the elric brothers or mustang and hawkeye#but also. many of the side characters.#doing my massive spreadsheet (almost done btw!) has shown to me that jerso and zampano are almost always in the same scene#that's a bonded pair babey#brosh and ross too. to me.#anyway. someone once left the tags ''bonded pair do not separate'' on a greedling post of mine and i haven't stop thinking about it#that's just how I conceptualize their dynamic now#two cats that have to be adopted together or else they'll start destroying furniture

Thinking about this passage from page 4489, and wondering if splintering Hal actually changed Dirk's persona. Not personality, something deeper than that. I have no idea how to describe this to singlets, but... the difference between 1 alter who was a fused combination of 2, and then that 1 splitting into 2 again. Combined, they're 3 distinct people, with 1 being a brand new person made up of 2. I dunno, think about the 2^sprites for a good and startlingly similar example. Probably should've just started with that instead of attempting to explain plural math, lol.
Mainly I'm wondering about this because there are, at first glance, subtle but also sometimes startlingly distinct differences between Dirk and Hal throughout HS1. Obvious caveats being that a shit ton of change and development can happen to a teenager between the ages of 13-16, Hal is in an incomprehensible situation of duress, and Dirk is also under a lot of pressure that he put on his own shoulders. But I can't put this thought down. Hal is distinct. His speech patterns are different, he uses different words, he has a different sense of humour. He jokes around more often, for one. He uses more puns. He focuses and worries about different things. Mr Paprika Prick is Homestuck's plural poster boy, after all. I'm becoming more and more convinced that Hal was in there the whole time, and that - along with dealing with impossible loneliness - something else was compelling them to code up the AR. A tragically failed attempt at giving an alter life outside a shared brain.
'I am more like him.' is a massive overcompensation, probably also hangover urges from Dirk's backbrain to hide his plurality from him, because that's like... the main symptom of DID. Amnesia and denial. You won't know what you're not ready to. Dirk is scared of the AR because if he faces the fact that Hal is a distinct person from him, it means there was something deeply, deeply wrong. And he's not ready for that.
#our t#TT.txt#Take this with a grain of fuckin' salt this is the most indulgent read.#I don't know if any of it even makes comprehensive sense.#It's massively hard to put plural shenanigans down into accessable language at the best of times.#It's a true IYKYK kind of thing. But again- the 2^sprites are a genuinely great example. Especially Davepeta and ARq

genuinely still baffled by the "they don't need to address Mike's sexuality, all that matters is that he's in love with Will" crowd. especially when people say it who claim to care about Mike's character (when you could also just say you don't really care for that part of the show, which would be fine, no one cares about all characters/arcs)
because Surely you realize how him being gay or bi would change his entire character, right. whether he's attracted to girls or not would change the way all his actions up until now are to be interpreted. not even making a statement on his sexuality here, this is generally speaking
if he was actually attracted to El you'd have to address when and why he suddenly stopped loving El since in fiction "it just happened" isn't usually a satisfying answer to breaking a multi season couple up. Why is Will it for him? he's been acting weird for ages so when did he realize? and what made it click he fell out of love with El for good? you'd have to give some explanation for why he was able to proclaim his love for El accidentally in s3 and then fail to do it in the same season while looking uncomfortable with kissing her and so on since his pov was so majorly withheld
if he's not attracted to girls his arc in s5 needs to focus more on comphet and how dating El affected him/why he felt he couldn't break up with her/homophobic attitude in his surrounding slash Hawkins. or the idea of platonic and romantic love in general. there would be no how he got from point A(El) to point B(Will), like what the focus of a bi!Mike s5 arc would have to be on to explain what happened, but a focus on how he ended up at point A in the first place and why he was stuck there/how it affected him
and even core moments of the series would have entirely different meanings depending on if he's attracted to girls. "it's not my fault you don't like girls" being a peak example. if he's gay it's easy to explain it with projection. if he IS attracted to girls though it would read as a much more intentional (even if blurted out) act of homophobia, since it would be him pointing something out that Will genuinely does (not liking being around girls) but he himself can't relate to
and that's all just the surface level differences. Mike being attracted to girls or not being attracted to girls would give his arc an entirely different focus in s5. AS WELL as make his past actions have entirely different meanings. the idea that "it doesn't matter for his character" is so insanely wrong it's wild how many people confidently peddle it
#Mike being gay is the better writing choice imo in case some people don't know my opinion on it and the post isn't really about it#because making him bi would contradict major parts of what they already wrote and the coding they gave his character#would also be more conclusive with other themes the show already has like platonic vs romantic love#good example of a character where it's the exact opposite is Richie Tozier from the original It book btw#specifically when people try to make him gay in adaptations/fanworks which always derails his character and requires massive#changes to the way he's interpreted and things to be ignored/written out#because he was specifically BI coded in the book and not gay coded#so any gay interpretations take away from his character massively

You will forever be known to me as the person who doesn't think rich/famous individuals are humans anymore and therefore aren't allowed to ever feel sorry for themselves.
im ok with that
#tho its not accurate that i think they can never feel sorry for themselves#im never going to say ''get over it'' if a rich celebrity is grieving over a lost loved one for example.#its when they specifically associate the status of being a rich celebrities as a massive tragedy while clearly fully enjoying the wealth#& doing everything possible to increase it#you don't fool me for a second celebrities. you would never in a million years trade places w/me or any other working class person#asks

Sarah Jane Smith, by all rights, should have decked the Doctor at some point in NuWho. Shows up out of the blue, years after ditching her in the wrong town, at a school she’s investigating and blows up her dog. Nearly gets her any everyone else killed in JE. Never offers a hand in any of the universe-threatening situations she’s got literal children helping her solve. Crashes her wedding and ominously implies that the Earth will end if her fiancé doesn’t die, but makes her explain it to the guy. Doesn’t even give her a hug goodbye. Doctor I love you but she’s got more right to smack you than just about any character that I actually DID see smack you
#doctor who#sarah jane smith#no really I’m watching The Wedding of SJS and it hit me#that every time he shows up she loses something massively important#and then immediately pushes it aside#HMMMMMMMMMMMM#LIKE SOMEONE ELSE WE KNOW#Also what is it with the Doctor and crashing weddings#this is one of at LEAST five examples I can think of

The thing that kills me about the Star Wars prequel trilogy and why I will die on my hill that my problem is not that Star Wars is a tragedy, its that its a badly written tragedy, is that Anakin Skywalker was at his closest to being a good Jedi when he was ten years old.
#im not an anakin apologist by any means because I get the point of his character and Im not pro or anti jedi#my only real opinion on all of it is similar to what I was saying about Peter and Tony and the MCU yesterday#its badly written. its EVERYONE being contorted into shapes that dont make a ton of sense in service to#getting characters to where they need to end up for certain things to occur#my opinion is not that Anakin is inherently bad or good or that the Jedi are inherently bad or good#its that their entire conflict was set in motion by forcing the Jedi to act in ways that felt massively OOC when they were#first interviewing him as a kid and like.....I ACCEPT that the Jedi are supposed to be for the most part kindhearted and empathetic and all#of that which is why its so noteworthy in my opinion that this does not match with how they were FORCIBLY portrayed in those early movies#in order to ENGINEER the idea that this kid in desperate need of support but already with a lot of good instincts and positive traits#came to the order of kindly supportive literal empaths and everything went downhill from there#like kindly supportive literal empaths would not in my opinion look at a kid trying his best to be brave & stoic in completely intimidating#circumstances and surroundings and be judgmental and fairly dismissive about it as though theyve never met a kid before let alone a#traumatized one and the fact that thats kinda what happened is in contrast to how a lot of pro anakin people frame that NOT proof#that the Jedi order are inherently bad its that in that key scene and multiple others#the Jedi order were BADLY WRITTEN in pursuit of one pre-determined outcome that mattered more to the script/Lucas than#being true to their core conceit and characterizations. and thats just one example out of dozens I could list and the same holds true for#anakin's side of things so thats why I always steer far away from SW discourse#because Im like the problem with the characters in terms of the most iconic arc is not really any of the characters so much#as the plots refusal to let them actually consistently BE characters rather than just fixed and contrived stepping stones on the way to#the desired endpoint

terf ideology is a special kind of cognitive dissonance in that (supposed) feminists witness how the patriarchy abuses and mocks womanhood in all forms, and then when trans women willingly sign up for all that as well as their own cocktail of discrimination just for a chance to be happy, they turn around and become just as puritanical and misogynistic as the forces they apparently decry.
#terfs are such massive hypocritical holier than thou losers#and their brand of 'feminism' is nothing but thinly veiled nazi rhetoric#transvestigators are such a good example of how freakish these people can be#i cant believe we're back to the 1800s by defining a woman on if she can give birth and by the width of her hips

wanna ask how you feel about the eridan bpd headcanon/theory(?? not sure what to call it!) you're so good at your character analysis and i'd love to see your outlook on it
Since I don't have a degree or any formal training in psychology, I feel deeply uncomfortable diagnosing characters. I've made an autism joke before but only because I'm on the spectrum. He's definitely traumatized and anxious, but I mean those as descriptors of his behavior rather than capital-D Diagnoses. I try to focus on those when I can - the cause and effect of cognition, self-image, and behavior - and those factors may very well match up with DSM criteria, but I try not to touch an actual diagnosis with a ten foot pole unless the author has explicitly stated that X character has Y condition.
#there's a variety of reasons for this#part of it is that im GROSSLY unqualified to be handing out diagnoses when it takes a full on PhD to do that in real life#part of it is that psychology is inchoate and we are still very much in murky waters#for example: complex ptsd isn't even IN the DSM yet#and iirc my therapist told me it was because theyre still figuring out how to classify it (attachment disorder? trauma disorder? etc.)#part of it is that (from my limited and undereducated understanding) there are diagnoses that you can assign by completing a checklist...#but some that require a hell of a lot more testing and ruling out other potential causes#and the cluster-b personalities are (IIRC) not even ones you're supposed to diagnose minors with#bc of fears of self fulfilling prophecy and because minors in general are still developing personalities In General#and like the fact that i can't say that with authority speaks to how unqualified i am to do any diagnosing right? hahaha#and part of it is just because like#unless the story is specifically About That and the author has stated so explicitly#i think diagnosing characters tends to put blinders on analysis#like if i were to seriously go 'eridan is autistic' then it would massively bias my reading and understanding of his character#and we have 0 indication that eridan was ever explicitly intended to be autistic or that the author was trying to do an autism specifically#that doesn't mean that the reading is invalid because like thats what death of the author means#all readings are technically valid including stuff the author didn't necessarily intend#but that's just not the way i like to engage with media and not the way i like to approach character analysis#because PERSONALLY it just feels kind of reductive - but also -#i'd wager MOST of us don't have degrees in psychology#so when i say 'X character has Y condition' it might mean something totally different to somebody reading my analysis#even people who have Y condition aren't exempt because a lot of mental illnesses differ from person to person#whereas if i explain “X character has Y thoughts and Z behaviors” there's no ambiguity in that#eridan struggles with noticing that people are suffering and with realizing that he should care#at least part of this is due to his horrific murder-filled upbringing which rendered empathy a detriment & so he learned to ignore it#it could be autism - but it could also be trauma -#or he might just be Like That without actually meeting the diagnostic criteria for autism#& you can't even technically be diagnosed with C-PTSD#or maybe he has a burgeoning personality disorder but you aren't supposed to DX those too early anyway#or maybe hes just 13. see what i mean hahaha. ive reached the 30 tag limit

New reason unlocked for being pissed that Jeralt decided to just burn stuff down instead of, idk, talking to Rhea (ok I know why he didn't do that) or realising his kid was similar to his wife (??? there's NO way Sitri had a heartbeat she is literally Powered By A Crest Stone ??? Jeralt ???)
or
idk
leave in the middle of the night WITHOUT burning shit down actually
#barks.txt#:((( my dude BOOKS and CHRONICLES and ARCHIVES are important#like sure it's funny that Rhea is all “ooh we lost this knowledge (that I still have bc I was there)”#but at the same time#if those documents were chronicling things written by the Apostles for example#it IS a MASSIVE LOSS#she doesn't KNOW what went into their head directly#idk#jeralt#why#why did you do that
