Pokémon White - The Battle Subway's Void
MARCHY... WRITING?!?!! Pppffff, aside from that... I wanted to write a little one-shot thingie in creepypasta format to explain in a lil' more detail what glitchy Submas are about. No gore or anything, only madness!! Without further ado, let us dive into this shitstorm...
And as a note: The player's opinion of Submas does not reflect my own, lol.
----
So… here’s the deal. I’m going to jump right into it – no sugarcoating whatsoever.
I’ve been an avid Pokemon fan for my entire life – way down from childhood and up till now, even as a broke unemployed college student. Generation 5 had always been my favorite, and though the attractions in Nimbasa City aren’t particularly pleasing to me, there was one place that had caught my attention – Nimbasa Gear Station.
Now, I am no rookie player… I’ve been through this subway time after time again – my favorite being the singles lines due to how quickly you can farm BP. And the doubles line was slower but gave you the same amount of BP, so what was the point? My copy of White was maxed out in money and time. No need to add more grueling tasks.
… Well, enough yapping for now – I don’t have much time, anyway. Let’s, once again, jump right into it.
Just a few nights ago, I had made my rounds with the battle subway again – but this time, I decided on choosing the multi lines. I’ve got barely any friends who play, so I ended up playing this with the NPC Hilda in the comfort of my own dorm room… If only I could play with sentient beings, I thought sarcastically to myself – no one being around and all…
It was unsurprisingly a typical, boring and usual sweep of the battle subway. A timid Hydreigon with max EVs in special attack and speed with dark pulse, flamethrower, surf and dragon pulse had done the trick. Way too easy!! We had a bit of trouble with a few NPCs here and there, but it was nothing terribly difficult.
Then came, of course, Ingo and Emmet with their usual cone stance. I never understood the hype around these two random NPCs… Sure, strange design and all – but what’s the deal?
With me already having dull feelings about the subway masters and their undeserved hype, the experience I was about to have this very night would ruin their image forever.
Aaaand the game crashes. What the fuck??!?! All of that hard work of grinding in the battle subway while mashing A had gone to waste. I am gonna fucking lose it… I thought. The only logical thing to do was to man up and suck it up and redo the entire thing over. So I rebooted the game, muttering profanities under my breath and waiting impatiently for the title screen to appear.
And it didn’t. At this moment, I thought, okay, obviously the game is fake. What is this shit? Perhaps I was a bit too irritable for no one’s good, because as soon as I had restarted it again, the title screen actually showed up with a bit of lag. But still… Something was off. Lag is a telltale sign of a fake game, right?
This thing’s cartridge was used, after all. I had no idea what the previous player had done to the game… In the back of my mind, I had hoped all my save data hadn’t been deleted. Fuck.
I eagerly waited for the game to boot fully and take me back to Gear Station as I hit the save file, but the performance of the virtual world only got lower and lower, steadily dragging itself back to where my character was standing. As per usual when you “quit” a subway battle, the employee was facing me in preparation to scold me.
… But he didn’t. He just stood there. And at this point I thought the game had frozen.
My heart kept beating fast as I frantically thought up plans of what to do with my save file. Transferring all of my work to another file was an option – but I didn’t have another DS or any friends who did. Again, fuck. At this point there’s no use in searching for resources online to find out if it was fake – it definitely was.
I took a deep breath and looked away from the screen for a moment as I hoped and prayed that the game would cooperate with me. The Gear Station theme was still playing, after all…
A few minutes later, and I simply gave up, rebooting the game yet again. And again, I experienced the laggy bootup screen and the strange pause at the employee. I dropped my DS, putting my hands in my face and releasing the most frustrated sigh to grace the earth.
This is when I suddenly heard an 8 bit screeching sound that had scared me shitless. I jumped up, removing my hands from my face and widening my eyes at the screen. Nothing was out of the ordinary, but the grating sound… ugh.
I reached for the DS’s power button and tried to turn it off – but to no avail. Okay, then let’s try holding it down for 10 seconds… Nope. Pressing all the buttons? Futile. Button combinations? Nada. And so I turn to Google – my attention now directed at my laptop screen – a terrible mistake, really.
After a few unhelpful searches, I turn back to my DS screen and jolt.
It was back where I was with Ingo and Emmet, but the background had gone completely black. How…? How was this even possible? At this point, I even considered that I had picked up a rom hack!
So, with all of the textures lost, I had of course entertained the idea that I was in generation 5’s “void” – similar to gen 4’s “void glitch” where you could catch Shaymin and Darkrai via the exploit. But I knew the walls of the battle subway were probably still around, and the only way of getting out would’ve been through the subway doors.
After a few moments of cautious reconsideration, I moved my fingers to the DS button’s arrows and pressed to go left. To my surprise, my character was actually able to roam around the void around Hilda, Ingo and Emmet!
Curiously, I approached Ingo and mashed the A button, attempting to speak to him. For a moment, this seemed to have frozen my game, until a text box popped up…
“What can I see after winning, winning, and winning? … Nothing – not without this fellow standing beside me.”
Huh. I had vaguely remembered the first half of this line from Ingo, but not the second half. At this point I was definitely convinced I had received some sort of fucked up rom hack in the real White’s disguise.
I spoke to Emmet, and his text box lagged similarly before he stated, “I am Emmet. I am a subway boss. And I am verrry angry. Too angry.”
When I spoke to Hilda, her text box was blank. No ellipsis or anything.
I… didn’t particularly enjoy the expressions the subway masters’ pixelated little faces were making. Dead, cold and glaring. But I had figured that’s how they always looked. Something was definitely going astray with their colors, because the more I stared, the bluer Emmet got, and the redder Ingo got. Their sprites were progressively getting freakier and freakier. What kind of fucked individual sat down and made this hack?
This is the part where a battle suddenly started without my knowledge or consent, despite my character standing far from their usual battle position. Uh… Okay then.
Subway masters Ingo and Emmet got into their usual battle position, backs turned before pointing… straight at me, as the player. This wasn’t quite right, I thought to myself, as I had remembered them pointing in opposite directions prior to this weird interaction. I did get a closer look at them, and their appearance was ever-changing.
They left the screen, and as per usual, Haxorus and Archeops were sent out first… Nothing was at all wrong with the sprites – except their eyes were missing? That and the fact that the battle’s background was white. A few blocky particles of what I call “glitch” were floating around the screen erratically. I also couldn’t help but to notice the Pokemon’s sprites weren’t animated.
I had a horrible pit in my stomach as my intuition was begging me to listen… But I persisted in thinking this was merely a twisted rom hack. The Pokemon still weren’t moving, and the screen was still struggling to load in the background with chunks of “glitch”. Colored particles were everywhere.
More possibilities floated through my mind… Was my DS broken? Was the cartridge dropped in water? Whatever the case might’a been, this was the most terrifying experience I ever had in a Pokemon game.
Unable to send my Pokemon out, I set the DS down and clutched my stomach a little, beginning to feel nauseous. My fingers tightened, rendering them paralyzed. I felt my whole body vibrate as I became deathly ill… Wasn’t quite sure why. There’s no way I was panicking so much over a video game.
As I stood up, I felt the room spin, so I sat back down. A distorted groan rang from the DS as Ingo’s sprite appeared back on screen, in the same pointing position.
His text box read, “The system cannot be shut off at this time. However, you could always offer reconciliation.”
Reconciliation? What the fuck was he on?
As Ingo’s distorted sprite faded out, Emmet’s appeared next – but he had black splotchy markings all over his body and face. I felt my heart beat faster again, and my breathing hastened as his text box popped up. It remained blank for a few seconds as Emmet’s round, soul-piercing eye revealed itself through his face’s shadow.
At this point I tried to shut the game off again by holding down the power button, but it was no use. Not even removing the cartridge stopped it.
“Do not try to turn the game off. Do not try to save the game. You cannot.”
How… How did he just break reality? I knew the funny business was over. This is real.
Ingo appeared again next to his Haxorus, who was melting into a glitchy mass. He began to speak again, his sprite’s eyes appearing in his face’s shadow. “I knew my partners wouldn’t make it through this – but I must protect what’s left. Why wouldn’t you play the multi lines for such a staggering duration of time, player?”
“I just did!!” I yelled back out loud, absolutely bewildered and jittery. I wasn’t even sure if responding to him would warrant a response, but…
Emmet’s Archeops began melting into a glitchy mass next as his sprite approached closer. Any light that was left in his eyes had died when he noticed his Pokemon partner was succumbing to the supposed reality break I was witnessing. His smile dropped for the first time. I’m pretty sure I had never seen that twin frown up until then.
“I am Emmet. This world is too limited. And I will break free. What you did was verrrry rude, player.”
“What did I do?!” I shouted back, feeling tears well up in my eyes. Not tears of regret or guilt, no – tears of confusion. Panic. My head was spinning at this point, and I had wondered if I was experiencing psychotic derealization. Something like this is much too bizarre to be real.
Another text box appeared as Ingo gestured to Emmet, Archeops and Haxorus. “Intentional separation is a sin that cannot be forgiven. Excuse me for repeating myself – but it would be kind of you to ask for reconciliation. I’m not sure how Emmet feels.”
I stared at my screen, my voice hoarse as I responded, “I… I’m not the one you’re looking for.”
I felt ridiculous responding to a video game character, but in my derealized mind this was logical at the time.
“Do not lie,” Emmet began, his sprite becoming increasingly glitchy, “I do not like liars. I do not entertain liars.”
I refused to press A past this point, instead reflecting on what could be happening. Are they feeling something? Is that why Haxorus and Archeops had died – due to a fatal game error?
“I’m sorry,” I say without really thinking, my thoughts racing with contemplating fear.
And Emmet responded again without me hitting A. “You said you are not the one. I do not like liars.” His sprite became bitter again, vibrating against the glitchy masses that were surrounding the twins and broken Pokemon.
I once again took a deep breath in complete disbelief, shutting the DS and dropping it harshly. I sobbed into my hands, unable to make out what I thought of this. Do I need psychiatric help? Was it real?
I felt as if something horrible was going to happen – as if these characters wanted revenge on me. And the game was still playing despite the fact that I had closed it.
Five minutes past as I rocked myself and wept, occasionally glancing over at the DS and putting destruction of the system into consideration. But before I could even formulate the plan, I noticed the DS was… vibrating. This just sent me back into the spiral of sobbing into my hands, but I kept my eyes locked steadily onto the DS. I knew a DS was not supposed to vibrate.
And then came what I can only refer to as a hallucination…
Something was pushing the DS’s screen back up – a finger covered by a black glove. The surrounding area erupted into glitchy fragments, and the gaming system was practically breaking itself and making crackling sounds as the plastic warped. Welp, guess my plan to destroy it was no longer needed.
Without a second thought I let out the loudest shriek I could ever release – and I had sworn the entire complex had heard it. Stood up and ran without hesitation. Not even going to stay to observe the scenery.
I made my way out of the dorms, speeding down the halls and immediately causing a scene. Everyone I passed just stood there, bewildered by my behavior. I was too scared out of my wits to even warn anyone.
I made my way out of the building and down the street, panting heavily and feeling my whole body cake in sweat. Pure fight or flight instinct. I knew then that someone wanted my head on a silver platter – video game character or not.
Eventually I was at my friend’s house, frantically knocking on their door… It isn’t my intent to bring danger towards them or their family, but it’s my only option at the moment. No way I’m staying back at that cursed dorm.
Explaining such a situation to my friend was uncomfortable, but they were concerned for my mental health and well being. And of course, they didn’t seem to believe my story, either… No one did. Everyone I texted, voice chatted with, and told in person always asked if I was joking, or if I needed some sort of help.
It’s been a couple of days since the incident, and I’ve missed plenty of classes – but they’re my last concern. Whether or not I come to find out if that thing was real, I need to hide for my own sake.
And I hope someone runs across this as a tale of caution (unironically, the reason I’m writing it). If you’re sold a game that’s advertised as real, and something strange begins to happen… don’t delve in further.
… Or you may end up like me – alone, just as the subway masters were. And possibly still being tracked down as I write.

Pokémon Shining SoulSilver dev diary 1
So I’m not a developer for pokemon or anything don’t @ me about sh:t. But I’ve been working on a hack/fake game/edit thingy for a while now and am posting cause I’m tired and want opinions
So- basics of it are taking a soul silver rom and changing it up to make it more realistic (ie smarter trainers, pokemon living on routes that feel natural for their biology), more unreliable- this time around there’s a greater scene of pokemon in a route so you don’t exactly what you’ll get- especially with someone (meaning me) who loves Nuzlocke type playing.
As well as changing up evolutions a bit, especially when it comes to Pokémon previously unable to evolve due to trading. As well as adjusting typing, such as finally having Charizard and Gyarados be dragon types! As well as incorporating more dual types- especially in the early gens who were still figuring themselves out
So, currently I’m up to grasps on all pokemon type changeups, evolutions, abilities and the like, part of the way through the monotony of picking where certain Pokémon live which is fine for like forests but SS/HG has a lot of water routes and areas and I am getting sick of it.
So, to break up that boring task I’ve also been working on upping the antics with trainers, leaders, grunts, and the rival. So far I’ve upped the level cap a little to make areas a little harder and have definitely diversified teams- even for gym leaders, fisherman and big catchers. I hate running into that one guy with six effing magikarps so now he has one, and a goldeen, a tangela, a wooper, a croconaw, a dragonair, etc- pokemon that would live near and around water, even if they aren’t water types.
The most fun I’ve had was doing the gym leaders- who while I’ve stuck with the level they were at- all of them have six Pokémon. And while many have the main type, more have dual types or types that fit the part. Such as Whitney having fairy and psychic types with her normals or Morty having dark types.
Because of that players won’t be able to just coast through the gym based on your ace of one type- you’ll have to be ready for anything
I’ve also added more double battles- because I love double battles ♥️
This was all kinda done because SS is my favorite of the games because your Pokémon actually walks with you- and the story is simple enough with a basic team rocket villain and classic ahat rival- unlike the later games which are convoluted to the excess. Problem was I was getting bored of the classic play through and I didn’t like that in fully randomized play throughs it felt like it was randomized- especially in encounters. Which can be interesting- but also it takes you out of the story to run into a Gyarados flopping around on Mt Mortar or a bell sprout on the ocean routes!
This was mainly just done for me- but as times gone on I am thinking of posting it as a fan game- at least once I play through the game and make sure it’s beatable. I have thought of making two versions- one with different teams for trainers but same for routes- namely cause I never want to redo the routes ever again- but that might be a future thing.
I mainly wanted to post this cause I’m excited, have no one in my life I can gush about pokemon to, and did actually want some public opinions.
So, starters- I wanted to move away from the classic grass, water, fire, however have found it difficult to find pokemon that fit into a tri-typing. While I was considering like ground, water, electric or something of the sort, I’ve since moved on to another idea. While retyping a few pokemon the starters all ended up dual typing and I want an opinion on what I should go with- I already have my idea on it- but let’s let the algorithm choose
Entry 2
So- in an attempt to check if it was working, I accidentally erased my progress on the Pokémon and trainers 😢 and have spent much of today rewriting the typings for my Pokémon. A lot of Pokémon in the hack have alternate typings and most excitedly alternative evolutions and evolution methods. This was mainly because it’s impossible to do trade evolutions- as well as I wanted to give formerly useless (non-evolutionary) pokemon extra stuff. If I do plan to post this for people to play- which I’m still deciding on- I plan to list out how they evolve- but not what they evolve into- giving it a layer of mystery. And a lot of Pokémon now evolve with friendship/happiness as well as classic evolution methods. This is because I’ve always liked the idea that Pokémon can control their own evolutions- to an extent. Similar to the show in that aspect.
The most notable examples are Vulpix, Growlithe, Nidorina/Nidorino, and Porygon2 who all evolve because of friendship- as well as several others
Changing types has been fun as well, and the gender ratio to be more even. I want to do my Lesbianlocke (female/gender neutral pokemon only Nuzlocke) and not have to give up my starter because I got effed over by sexist game developers
The one big issue I’ve had is I can’t readily change my starters with PPRE so I might have to find another hacking tool to fix that. The other problem is- for some reason- the tool I’m using doesn’t include fairy types. Which has been frustrating as I really wanted to make certain types fairy- including the Chilorita line to Grass/Fairy- which would help as their are currently more than a few new dragon type Pokémon in the game. I don’t know quite how to fix it yet- and I don’t think I have any completely dragon types so other type advantages will stick around- however that has been difficult to overcome
If anyone has an alternate hacking tool for a soul silver rom I’d love to hear it-hmu in the replies

In complete curiosity, can you tell me what your favorite Smash reveal trailer of all time was?
Like, actually, real shit, stuff that’s already happened in this timeline?
Nothing will ever top Smash 4’s reveal for me. I was really into Brawl as a kid, and after Brawl came out a lot of people spread the idea online that it would be the last smash game (hilarious in hindsight, I know). Me, being the dumb kid I was, took that at face value. I also wasn’t really into following leaks at the time. I was also 12, almost 13 when 4 was revealed, keep in mind. I just sort of accepted that smash was done.
I vividly remember when I first saw that reveal trailer. We were in the middle of bumfuck nowhere for my sister’s soccer game. I was sweaty, hungry, and my phone was running out of battery. I managed to convince my mom to let me stay in the car for the rest of the game, where I promptly began charging my phone and went onto YouTube to pull up some music to listen to (knowing me at the time, it probably would’ve been an Evanescence song). And there, at the top of my recommended feed, was that trailer.
It almost didn’t feel real. I was so convinced that Smash was over, I almost thought that the video would’ve been a fake. Some shitty mod or whatever. But I clicked on it anyways, because, y’know, Smash Bros! Boy am I glad I did. Instantly, I was enthralled by the idea of Smash on the go. I didn’t have a 3DS at the time, but I played on my DS like I was getting paid for every second the screen was on. Having a portable smash game was a dream come true! And when they got to the Wii U part of the trailer, I was drawn in by the visual upgrade compared to Brawl. I was a dumb kid who didn’t know anything about graphics watching this trailer in 480p on a shitty Windows phone, and even I could tell how much of a graphics upgrade it was compared to Brawl. I didn’t have a Wii U at the time either, but I was still excited.
The new characters announced were just the icing on the cake. I love Animal Crossing, but I never expected an Animal Crossing rep in smash because I read that Sakurai had previously said that Animal Crossing characters were unsuited for battle. So when that trailer opened up on a shot of the Villager opening the now iconic envelope, my hype levels instantly shot through the roof of the car. Really, I should consider myself lucky that I was watching this trailer in the middle of an empty parking lot in the middle of nowhere and not, say, on the bus ride home from school, because after that point, I was visibly freaking out throughout. I would’ve been perfectly satisfied with just Villager, but then the trailer continued. The videos online right now show these two as separate videos, but I definitely remember watching them as one big trailer.
NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHING!
Oh boy, who could it be? The gang looked up at a cliff to see a boy with distinct spiky hair.
“No. There’s no way it could be him. There’s just no way! I read online that he couldn’t get in, so it’s not him.”
Blip!
“OH MY GOD IT IS HIM HOLY SHIT IT’S MEGA MAN FUCKING MEGA MAN HOLY S H I T!”
It didn’t feel real. It felt like a dream. But I was loving every second of it. And even better, the next video in my recommended feed was the trailer for Wii Fit Trainer. What? Why? Who asked for this? I was dumbfounded, but all for it.
I think that those three characters made for the perfect holy trinity of character reveals. The anticipated first party/character Sakurai previously said no to, the third party, and the character that nobody saw coming. Smash 4’s initial reveal had it all. I probably rewatched that trailer for the rest of the soccer game. I texted all my friends about it, and they were all nearly as excited as I was. I would’ve told my mom and sister all about it when they got back in the car, but I wasn’t supposed to be using data at the time, so if they knew that I had used it to watch a silly reveal trailer over and over again, mom probably would’ve had a heart attack (this was before unlimited data was more standard). But you better believe that I exploded on about it as soon as I figured it was safe to.
Even after all these years (and all of the timelines I’ve looked into), no Smash trailer...no, more like no trailer period has ever gotten close to capturing the pure excitement that I felt when I first saw the Smash 4 trailer, and I doubt that there ever will be one. I’m a jaded adult now, and everything is more exciting through the rose-tinted glass of adolescence. The “Everyone is Here!” trailer for Ultimate came close, though. Smash 4’s development was also something of a turning point for me when I became more active in following the development of new games online. I think it was for a lot of people, I think that a lot of that can be attributed to Brawl’s success (and the Wii as a whole) at capturing a wider demographic of gamers compared to Melee and 64. Smash 4 feels almost laughable to go back and play now, but I can’t deny the impact it had on me.
As far as other individual reveal trailers go, here are my favorites:
Little Mac and Palutena-both for the same reason: THAT ART STYLE. Their trailers also convinced me to play their respective games. Uprising was one of my first 3DS games and Punch Out is the last game I remember renting from Blockbuster.
Greninja-As laughable as this sounds now, getting a new Pokémon rep was really hype for me back then. I was beginning to get into competitive, so seeing the ninja frog that had taken over the competitive scene at the time get into smash was cool, even if I was Team Fennekin. Confirmation that at least Charizard had survived the cut was also really cool.
Robin and Lucina-I didn’t know anything about Fire Emblem at the time, but Robin looked cool and I was digging the 3D anime artstyle from Awakening that the trailer was rendered in. Another trailer that convinced me to buy the game that they were from, and good god now I’m an insufferable Fire Emblem fan good lord I was so innocent back then. “Girl Marth” jokes were rampant amongst my friends. Also, CAPTAIN FALCON!!!
Lucas-Funny story, my sister absolutely despises video games with a burning, visceral passion now, but back when we played Brawl together, her mains were Lucas and Snake. You can imagine the pain and agony she felt when Smash 4 initially came out. Lucas’ DLC came out around my birthday, so her gift to me that year was a $10 eShop card. She just told me: “you know what to spend it on.”
Cloud-“Hey guys, you know what would’ve been awesome? In Brawl, if, like, they put in Cloud from Final Fantasy 7?”
Corrin-At this point I was a big Fire Emblem fan riding hot on the hype train for Fates, so I was very excited for Corrin. The dragon-inspired moveset also seemed really cool. Funny how times have changed, and when Byleth was added in I was very lukewarm compared to when my reaction to Corrin.
Inkling-Similar story to the Smash 4 reveal trailer, I was absolutely not expecting a Smash announcement that day and I saw the video was in my YouTube recommended feed while I was at my internship of all places. Unfortunately, none of the other people there were gamers (let alone Smash fans), so they couldn’t share in my hype.
Everyone is Here/Ridley-I can’t properly give this one the justice it deserves in a short amount of words and this post is already getting really long, so I’ll save this one for a later day if you guys are interested. To keep it short, let’s just say that I was very much a part of the Ridley gang and I was very happy to see him in.
Belmonts and K. Rool-I got up at 7 in the morning to watch that trailer and loved every second of it. Keep in mind that I am not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination. The only thing that sort of spoiled it for me was that the Smash teams themselves leaked it the night before by releasing a track titled Bloody Tears/Monster Dance
Ken and Incineroar-Nothing against these two, but at the time I was crushed when I realized the Grinch leak was fake. Now I can look back on it and laugh at Little Mac getting yeeted through the billboard and Villager’s stance at the end of the trailer.
Sans Mii Costume-Pretty sure I’ve already mentioned this, but when I first saw that trailer I legit fell out of my chair laughing. I’m not even an Undertale fan, but seeing funny skeleton man on my screen just broke me. The fact that Toby went to Sakurai’s house and beat him in Smash made it even better.
Banjo-I’ve never actually played a Banjo Kazooie game before, but I’ve seen enough videos about them over the years that I almost feel like I have. They’re ingrained in my childhood due to that in a weird way. Plus, it felt so good to have a victory over the Steve fans. I felt the weight of that Jiggy that bounced on the floor.
And that’s about it! If you guys want to hear my thoughts on the Everyone is Here trailer, please let me know and I’ll do another post like this.
...Upon rereading this post for spelling errors, I realized that you probably were more asking about my favorite reveal trailers throughout multiple timelines. Oops. Let me know if that’s what you wanted and I’ll answer with my thoughts on my favorite future reveal trailers.

Top 10 Most Wanted Newcomers and Echo Fighters
NiI’d like to start this post by saying this is all my own personal opinion. I respect all feedback, be it positive or negative, so feel free to message me anytime! Fair warning, there’s a lot of characters I’m not familiar with, so please go easy on me!  I’ll present my #10 echo fighter and then my #10 newcomer until we reach number one, each with a paragraph describing why I want them. Let’s start with...
ECHO #10 - KEN (Street Fighter) (Echo of RYU)
Tumblr media
I haven’t played a lot of Street Fighter, but I do know that Ken is a fan favorite of the series. I can’t see any third party characters getting a unique rep (RIP Chun-Li) so the best thing would be a Ryu echo fighter. The only person who I feel deserves that role is Ken. As stated before, I’m a novice to Street Fighter so I can’t name any differences between the two, but Smash Bros. would be a fantastic way for me to see these differences.
NEWCOMER #10 - RAYMAN (Rayman)
Tumblr media
Remember when Artsy Omni made that fake leak of Rayman in SM4SH? I was one of the many people who thought it looked too real to be fake. Nearly everything about the leak looked real, and the fact that there was a Rayman trophy in the game only lead me to believe it further. With his detached limbs, I could see Rayman having one of the longer grabs in the game, with his hands and legs flying far from his body to deal some damage.
ECHO #9 - FUNKY KONG (Donkey Kong Country) (Echo of DONKEY KONG)
Tumblr media
I’ve been playing a lot of Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and with the Switch port adding a fifth playable character in the form of Funky Kong (only in Funky Mode), he’s gaining a new following that he hasn’t had before. Rather than rolling in his dash attack like Donkey Kong, Funky could ride his Surfboard. If not a dash attack, it could work similar to Wario’s bike where it will disappear for a bit if it’s destroyed. His recovery could involve him surfing upwards, too!
NEWCOMER #9 - REX AND PYRA (Xenoblade Chronicles)
Tumblr media
I haven’t gotten around to beating Xenoblade Chronciles 2 yet, but I really like the dynamic between these two. I don’t have much to say about them, they’d probably function semi-similar to Shulk but not close enough to be an echo fighter. Rather than giving Rex alternate costumes, each costume could be a different sword rather than Pyra.
ECHO #8 - IMPA (The Legend of Zelda) (Echo of SHEIK)
Tumblr media
Using her Hyrule Warriors appearance, obviously. She’d play as a fast moving just low damaging attacker like Sheik, but I could see her dash attack and other moves using her sword like she does in Hyrule Warriors.
NEWCOMER #8 - SPRINGMAN (ARMS)
Tumblr media
So I’ve heard that Sakurai is primarily drawing from the Smash Ballot back in SM4SH, which means we may not being seeing any ARMS characters in the base roster. The game may have been underwhelming, but Nintendo rarely releases new major IPs, so bringing in a character from ARMS may help with sales. As Springman is the primary posterboy, he would fit best into the roster. Similar to Rayman, he’d have long range due to his spring-like arms.
ECHO #7 - NINTEN (Earthbound) (Echo of NESS)
Tumblr media
I know absolutely nothing about this character because the only Earthbound/Mother game I’ve played was Mother 3, but I’d love to see another representative of the series. Seeing as Ness and Lucas were the protagonists of Earthbound 2 and Mother 3, I see no reason to not include the protagonist of the first game in the series.
NEWCOMER #7 - DECIDUEYE (Pokémon)
Tumblr media
I’m going to be quaint. I don’t want Incineroar to be our Gen. 7 rep. It may be easier to implement than an owl with a bow and arrow, but we already have Greninja to represent a water starter and we have/had Charizard to represent a fire starter, so I would much rather have our first grass starter in the form of the unique Decidueye. He’d have a fantastic recovery due to his being an owl, but his kit would be primarily ranged based. You could take a lot of his movement from his Pokkén Tournament incarnation.
ECHO #6 - ISABELLE (Animal Crossing) (Echo of VILLAGER)
Tumblr media
Isabelle’s assist trophy has not (at the time of making this) been reconfirmed, so I believe there’s a strong possibility that she’ll make it as our second Animal Crossing representative. She’s quickly become one of the most popular characters of the series and with her very expressive faces, I’m sure Sakurai can make her into one of the cutest characters we have.
NEWCOMER #6 - FAWFUL (Super Mario)
Tumblr media
Nintendo seems to have forgotten about the Mario & Luigi franchise, which saddens me because they were my favorite games. Fawful is an important character in Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, and Bowser’s Inside Story, even being the main antagonist in the third. He could be a very unique fighter, using his head-jetpack-thing for his recovery and his final smash could be the Dark Star Core.
ECHO #5 - VIRIDI or MEDUSA (Kid Icarus) (Echo of PALUTENA)
Tumblr media
Viridi is a fan favorite who could echo Palutena, but rather than using general light magic, Viridi could focus on more nature-based magic. Another echo of Palutena could be Medusa. I’m not quite sure what a moveset for her would be like, but more villains is a must.
NEWCOMER #5 - SKULL KID (The Legend of Zelda)
Tumblr media
Apparently there’s a lot of people who believe Skull Kid is confirmed already? I don’t know if I’d go that far, though I admit the proof is very believable. I don’t know what a potential moveset for Skull Kid could be, and his final smash probably wouldn’t be the Moon, as it’s an assist trophy now. But who knows, maybe it’s possible?
ECHO #4 - SHADOW (Sonic the Hedgehog) (Echo of SONIC)
Tumblr media
Shadow just makes sense to me. We know third party characters are open to echo fighters, and Chrom showed us that “echo” doesn’t mean “exact copy”. Shadow could echo Sonic but keep his unique dark and edgy attitude. He could be a stronger but slower Sonic who skates on his shoes and uses the power of the Chaos Emeralds for his attacks, with Chaos Control and other emerald-based powers. No guns though.
NEWCOMER #4 - PAPER MARIO (Super Mario)
Tumblr media
With five games to take from, the Paper Mario RPG series is a classic and loveable series to Nintendo fans. While the recent games have failed to live up to what The Thousand-Year Door built, the series still has a strong following. He could use jump based moves and his hammer would be an integral part of his moveset. Various partners from the series, like Goombella, could also be part of his moveset.
ECHO #3 - OCTOLING (Splatoon) (Echo of INKLING)
Tumblr media
Now that we know that not all Octoling are evil, this may be their chance to make it into the lime light as a playable character in Super Smash Bros. The major problem I see with the Octoling is how to differentiate between their ink and the Inkling’s ink. Plus I just really want an Octoling amiibo.
NEWCOMER #3 - MONSTER HUNTER (Monster Hunter)
Tumblr media
I have never played any Monster Hunter games and to be honest they just aren’t my cup of tea, but since Rathalos is in the game as both a boss and an assist trophy, I’d be kind of upset if we didn’t get a hunter as a character.
ECHO #2 - DIXIE KONG (Donkey Kong Country) (Echo of DIDDY KONG)
Tumblr media
Another fan favorite character that I’m honestly surprised hasn’t made it yet. Her hair could whip forward like Shantae’s does in the Shantae games, and it could also be used as her recovery, working the same as Donkey Kong’s, low height but long distance.
NEWCOMER #2 - GENO (Super Mario)
Tumblr media
I haven’t played Super Mario RPG personally, but I’ve seen my friend play a bit of it and I know how popular Geno is. With his appearance as a Mii Costume in SM4SH, I don’t think it’s unreasonable that Sakurai put him in. It seems like all those who got Mii Costumes have made it in as playable characters (except Ashley, RIP).
HONORABLE MENTIONS  Amaterasu, Banjo-Kazooie, Chibi-Robo, Chorus Kids, Dillon, Elma, Isaac, Leon Kennedy, Lloyd Irving, Marx, Quote, Tetra, and Wonder-Red
ECHO #1 - DARK BOWSER or MIDBUS (Super Mario) (Echo of BOWSER)
Tumblr media
Psst, hey. Fun fact. This is actually my most wanted character in the entire list. Even more than my #1 Newcomer. Dark Bowser is the final boss of Bowser’s storyline in Bowser’s Inside Story, happening the same time as the Mario Bros. fight the Dark Star Core. He’s bigger than Bowser and a lot tougher. He breaths blue/purple fire among other powers, and I plan on making a whole separate post dedicated to why I want this character in Smash Bros. For now, I’ll just leave you all with Dark Bowser’s battle music.
NEWCOMER #1 - BANDANA DEE (Kirby)
Tumblr media
Bandana (Waddle) Dee has become a stable character of the Kirby franchise, usually being a boss character or a playable character, his popularity rivals that of King Dedede and Meta Knight. He could throw his spear as a neutral attack, and spin it around for his recovery like he does in Star Allies. If you want to see what this looks like in action, I suggest checking out some gameplay of him in Super Smash Flash 2 (Please ignore Goku, he’s never getting in).

Hiveswap Episode 1 Reaction Part 8: Descending the stairs in Joey’s house!
Whoops, yesterday and the day before we returned home pretty late, so we didn't get to continue playing Hiveswap. Let's make up for that today! We were just going to enter the second part of the hallway, to finish up the remaining item combinations, and then we'll be continuing downstairs probably, exciting! Starting at 6:10 PM now.
Pet treats && Lamp/Cabinet ==> Pffff, I actually hadn't realized yet how there are so many things with mouths around here: dolls, paintings, stickers, pictures... even the Lord English castle has a mouth! xD Pogs && Box ==> That would indeed be pretty silly. On the other hand, I'm surprised Joey doesn't think of it as a serious idea considering how much she hates those pogs. :mspa: Oh man, haha, plainWonder's right, sneaky "tombs" and "crypts" reference right there. I would have totally missed that, haha. Ballet slippers && Box ==> Huh, "extra pair"? Where's her main pair then? Is it at the ballet school itself, perhaps? That would make sense. Also, I always love it when Homestuck/Hiveswap decides to go down the route of discussing metaphors literally. :P Pogs && Lite Brite ==> Ahahaha, yes that does sound really similar to each other. Thank goodness Lord English doesn't have a pog leg. :mspa: Pogs && Jude's door ==> Pffff, it would be amazing if that's the ending to Hiveswap: Joey gets a heartful reunion and then Jude is suddenly like: "What did you do to my pogs?!" xD Pet treats && Jude's door ==> Well, at least that confirms Jude's pet would EAT those things. That means it's at least a SOMEWHAT normal pet. :P Oh boy, now it's time to move on! Now we should be right at the top of the stairs. I wonder if the stairs themselves will also be part of what's loading now or it if it will load separately? Also, I'm really curious to see all those pictures above the stairs!!! We've seen plenty of them in concept art before, but it'll be really cool to see them up close in the game now, and see what Joey has to say about them! Plus, I also just realized we haven't seen any pictures of Grandpa so far, only Joey's drawing of him and the paper figure. Meanwhile, we HAVE seen pictures of Joey herself, Jude, Tesseract, Ms. Claire, and the babysitter already. I wonder if Jude's got some pictures of Grandpa in his own room? That's probably something we'll only discover in Hauntswitch. .... Oooooooooooooh! :O Gosh just look at all those things. Let's start on the right: looks like a picture frame was broken there! Probably by the monster when it was chasing Joey to her room. I wonder if we can pick it up and look at it and/or put it in our inventory? I wonder what's on the picture... Or maybe it was just a little mirror? We can't immediately see any picture lying there and just some glass shards. What are all those small colourful things on that desk? They kinda look like mini-Scalemates to me and/or like those Pokémon substitute dolls. xD There's also a paper with some colours on it on the desk... I was wondering what that is, but plainWonder's probably right that it's one of those games (I have no idea what it's actually called) where you can like put your hand in and show little pieces of the paper one at the time (okay I'm explaining this terribly you probably all know what it is anyway xD). And then... THE PICTURES!!!! First of all, the Ms. Claire picture! Looks like it was a gift to Grandpa (who has now officially been confirmed as being named Jake in B1, not that there should have been any doubt about it)!! "To my biggest fan" or something? To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if he never actually came for the dancing (I mean, we haven't really seen any hints yet that Grandpa/Jake likes dancing/dancers), but just because he thought Ms. Claire was beautiful. And plainWonder made a very good remark, we can see the initial of Ms. Claire's first name, It's A!!!! He does have a good point that it sounds familiar and that we've probably seen it in concept art before. And I believe he's right that when we first learned that I theorized her first name would be Anna! To fit in with people's theories that Nanna's real name would be Anna (before we met Jane) and the meta poke at it in Pony Pals! Anna Claire does sound really nice, and it would fit nicely with the 4-6 letter patterns in the first names and last names of all members of the human Prospit Dreamer family, and even Joey and Jude follow that pattern (yeah, I think it makes a lot of sense that they would be Prospit Dreamers :) ). After that, there's some really adorable pictures of Joey, Jude and Tesseract, n'awwww. Including some pictures of Joey and Jude as babies right near the picture of Ms. Claire at the top! And then, the pictures to the left are the ones I'm REALLY excited about, and which we've sadly also already seen in concept art before. First of all, the picture of Nanna, Grandpa and Halley! I'm just really glad that Grandpa didn't entirely forget about Nanna and carried her around with him, in a certain way. Also, looks like there's also a picture there of just Grandpa and Halley, possibly taken after they'd ventured off alone. Then, the wedding picture of Grandpa and Ms. Claire!!! We've also seen that before, but something that just occurred to me is that Grandpa appears with EYES there! That's a first. Which is also making me realize... Ms. Claire is always depicted with eyes as well! So in that regard it seems like adults are being drawn differently in Hiveswap than they were drawn during Homestuck, that's pretty interesting to see! Heh, I also just realized that if you think away Ms. Claire's eyes she'd kind of look like Mom! And her eyes do look somewhat similar to Rose and Roxy's. Next up is the picture of the babysitter with Joey and Jude! I don't really have anything new to say about that, other than I just noticed she's also wearing her cat symbol on there! Nice. :D And finally... the picture of Grandpa and the deer. Oh deer god (sorry), Dammek's probably going to get pretty angry about that when he sees it, considering his relationship to deers. Actually, I imagine there'll be plenty of Grandpa's exploits that he wouldn't approve of. Alright, that's all I've got to say for now. Let's see what we can examine closer here! ...Welp, okay, we can't examine anything at the top of the stairs. Let's just assume that frame was attached to a little mirror or something and didn't have a picture. Pffff, Joey's "mostly-great" family. Yeah, I wonder what she'll have to say about Grandpa when we examine his pictures. :/ Ooooh, so now we can see them from a bit closer and examine each of them individually! Hell yes. Uh... that picture of Baby Joey up there. Is that... her on top of a cat? That reminds me of the picture of Tesseract with a cat on Joey's door. I wonder if one of them (or both) are cats of Mom and possibly related to Jaspers/Mutie? I wonder if Joey will mention something about it when we examine the picture! plainWonder has a good point that perhaps Ms. Claire had cats herself too? Also, d'awww, in that one picture of Joey and Tesseract she's actually being licked by her dog, n'aww. And look at all those toys in the picture of Joey and Jude with their babysitter. I imagine they'll have had a lot of fun times together! Is... is that a Loch Ness-like monster toy in the foregound? xD I really like how you can tell the difference between the older and the new pictures, by the way. Not just by the picture itself which of course doesn't have as much colour gradations, but also the frames! Those frames of the older pictures look much more decorated and gold than the new ones, which seem like more modern and normal picture frames. That's a nice detail. Alright, let's start examining the pictures closer, I'm really curious what Joey's going to say about them! Pfffffffff, "GLAMNIFIQUE" :D That entire little piece of narration as she examines Ms. Claire's picture is brilliant. Sadly, no comment about the message/name on it though. Good dog, best friend! D'aww. Also, I just realized that Tessseract's tongue looks a bit greenish in that picture, hehe. I also think it's pretty funny how Tesseract's eyes are not on the picture, making it almost seem like he doesn't have any, just like Bec. :P D'aww, so Joey wanted to make a picture of Ms. Claire, Jude and herself together. Yeah, it doesn't look like there's any pictures featuring Jude and Ms. Claire together. I still wonder what the deal with that is, but I really wouldn't be surprised if he was only born after her death, considering Ms. Claire died when Joey was still a baby. I mean, I find it highly unlikely that Jude's actually a meteor baby and crushed Ms. Claire upon landing, but I guess we just don't know! Oooooh, so those pictures of Joey and Jude are school portraits! Makes sense, especially considering how Jude seems to be having a hard time putting up a proper smile. :P And actually, I like how Joey's smile also looks faked, when you compare it to the more natural picture of her together with her babysitter and Jude, where she's with a more natural smile! I wish they did backgrounds for school portraits at our school too. :mspa: And yeah, I also didn't have a clue what diptych meant until we just looked it up, haha. So apparently that's literally just the name for a combination of two pictures like this. Welp, Grandpa never told Joey anything about Nanna. Looks like he kept that to himself. :( I wonder if he ever told about Nanna to Ms. Claire? Also, hehe, yes Nanna was sort of Grandpa's "sister" and at the same time she wasn't. Joey, be glad you don't know how the actual story is behind that. :P Pffff, Joey thinks Nanna might have died young. I love how it's basically the opposite of that, with Nanna having lived a long life until John landed, and even then after 13 years she came back to life (sort of) and after the end of Homestuck she's still alive and kicking (x2 combo!). Oh Joey, if you only knew. Also, plainWonder has a good point about how Joey doesn't have a second cousin YET, considering how John has yet to land on Earth, haha. It's pretty sad that Grandpa and Nanna didn't stay in touch. Otherwise after Ms. Claire's death perhaps Grandpa would have left them with Nanna and they could have grown up together with Dad! That would have been an interesting alternate timeline to see, one where John grows up with not just a dad but also an aunt and an uncle! Well, it's good that Joey realizes the bad sides about Mom, that while she's trying very hard she's definitely not flawless. Also GODDAMMIT, Joey's in the dark about how Mom grew up just like us. xD I mean... I guess we do know a little bit more than she does, what with the room inside the Skaianet lab and all, but there's still quite some unanswered questions about all that. Guess that's something we either won't ever know, or will only find out some other day. :P ...Eesh. plainWonder just came up with the theory that perhaps Grandpa found her after her meteor landed and observed her in the Skaianet lab, as she grew up there. That's... kind of a bit dark to think about. Let's move on! ....OH MY GOD. THE REACTION TO OBSERVING THE WEDDING PICTURE IS SIMPLY THE BEST. Sadly, he was indeed born with those spectacles on, ahahahahaha! xD That's an amazing meta joke. (Also, let's all be glad he wasn't born with the moustache instead) I also just realized how you can see the bridge between Jude's glasses, while there's no such thing for Grandpa! Another indication how it's glasses that cannot be removed? :mspa: Huh... that reaction to examining the Grandpa/Halley picture is quite fascinating! I actually hadn't realized yet how Grandpa made such an immense 180°-turnaround on animals. He seemed to care a lot about Halley, but then he became a hunter! Did something indeed happen that made him change his mind, like Joey seems to be suggesting here? That's something I've never thought about before, but I have no freaking clue what could have possibly caused it. Especially not something Halley could have done...? ...Eesh. That reaction to the Grandpa/deer picture is pretty cold. Yeah, it looks like Joey and Grandpa were very different from each other. I like how there's a sneaky stab at how Grandpa is normally never depicted with eyes and thus didn't look at her, but still. That's pretty sad to hear. I would love to hear Grandpa's side of the story sometime. We know what Nanna thought of him, we know what Jade thinks of him, and we know what Joey thinks of him, but how does he look at all those things? I'd love to hear his own thoughts about why he left Nanna, why he left Joey and Jude, why he is the way that he is... I guess... maybe the answer actually lies with Jake? We know that Jake learned that he prefers being alone, so maybe Grandpa also never saw himself as being really capable of raising Joey and Jude and that's why he simply avoids everyone? Pfff, so if we try using any of our items on these portraits we simply get the same prompt and examine the pictures anyway, haha. Alright, looks like we're done here! Let's see if there's anything more in this room before a new one gets loaded. Kind of weird those purple smears on the right side... GAMZEEEEEEEEEEEE *shakes fist* :mspa: Alright, at the bottom of the stairs a new room gets loaded! Looks like there's a window here, and to the right downstairs there seems to be a picture! So there's probably more stairs here to go further down, I imagine there won't be anything else here other than the window? ... A STATUE!!!!! :O Oh god that looks A LOT like a Denizen statue! And plainWonder's right, it's probably meant to look like Abraxas! Seeing as it appears to have feathers AND of course that is supposed to be Jake's Denizen, so it makes sense that there'd be a reference to that Denizen (I mean, I guess Typheus would also have been possible, seeing as Grandpa DOES have a Typheus Minion :P). Haha, that's a really cool way to get Denizens into this, I wonder if we can examine the statue and see Joey's reaction to it. Also, I wonder if we can look outside the window? Pfff, "what is this guy so happy about anyway?" That reminds me of John's reactions to some of the pictures in his house. But uh, Joey does raise a pretty good point. Grandpa must have gotten it from SOMEWHERE, so where did he get it from? Did he already visit the B1 session at this point and was that statue somewhere over there? Was it somewhere in the Frog Temple? As a matter of fact, does this mean Grandpa had already visited the Frog Temple prior to moving there together with Jade? Looks like we can't look out the windows here! Pogs && Abraxas statue ==> Ahahaha, I like how it's like Joey's making a sacrifice to please the gods or something. Also, there she goes again with using the word "serpents". :P Pfff, I love how for a second it's like there's something mysterious about the statue and that it actually swallowed the pog or something. But no, that would be quite silly. xD Pet treats && Abraxas statue ==> Joey really doesn't like snakes, does she? :P Cherub Key && Abraxas statue ==> It probably reminds you of snakes because there are Cherub snakes depicted on your key, Joey. :mspa: Also, I guess they are SORT OF related to each other, in the way that both of these things have a mysterious connection to Sburb, and we have no clue where either of these things come from and how they got here in the first place. Ballet slippers && Abraxas statue ==> Congratulations Joey, you just succesfully managed to dodge a snake statue. That's one step towards dodging real snakes, right? :mspa: Ooooh, I thought this would be all in this "room", but further up ahead there's a really cool coat of arms of Grandpa's, apparently! I love how there's blunderbusses on it on one hand (interestingly the first time actual firearms are shown in Hiveswap!), and on the other hand also a dog head which seems to be a reference to Bec! :D I mean, obviously it's supposed to reference Halley, but I like how the eyes are depicted so small that it almost looks like they aren't there, just like with Bec. Alright, we're calling it a day here, at 8 PM! Let's examine the coat of arms and move on next time. I'm pretty satisfied with where we got now.

Kado 7 (includes notes on Kado 6.5 + Tsukigakirei 6.5) | Boku no Hero Academia 21 | Grimoire of Zero 7 | Royal Tutor 8 | Tsukigakirei 7
Kado 7 (includes notes on Kado 6.5 + Tsukigakirei 6.5)
Some notes on the recap: It’s interesting they styled the title card to be like a silent movie, but the embellishments in the top corners are high-tech. Tsukigakirei’s recap was a slog because it awkwardly cut, but because of all the indications of time and the fact there’s already a narrator, this show fits a recap style much better (but the titlecards and changing of the eyecatch make this ep feel fresh, which is great!). Also, it seems I was wrong about how it had been three days since Kado’s appearance (see ep 5’s commentary), because the counter hits 5 days when the first passengers are released.
Wait…that “brain” was a device???
“Hi Setten”, LOL. Also, I found out “kado” (with this combo of kanji -> 過度) can mean “excess” or “immoderation”, and “setten” means “settings” or “options”...I first remember seeing the word in the Boueibu game, where “setten” of course would refer to things like “volume on/off” and that.
Apparently, the Google CEO’s name is Sundar Pichai…I thought it was Larry Page and Sergey Brin as co-CEOs, but I guess I was wrong…Also notice Ward’s iPad says “ihou sonzai” (anisotropic being).
Oh flap. Adam’s pulling a Great Fitz here…
I’ve seen the “I can’t dry my laundry!” screenshot before, but seeing it in context is funny all over again. In fact, it makes it even funnier.
I was worried about how the show might get a little too philosophical after ep 6’s end, but it’s good to see Hanamori retains his sleeping capabilities. *stifles laughter* They even rendered Hanamori’s bedhead.
“Kado comes here, and instead of running, they find a way to market it.” – It’s an interesting, yet extremely obvious point that we tend to ignore because we’re so used to it. That’s why tourism – even fake tourism - sells. Why do I bring this up? Because I want to, for one, and because I hope to exploit this angle for Half-Paid Heroes. (I wanna know how to make Kado cake, too…)
CR subbers, I thought Gonno’s first name was “Takumi”?...
That’s cute, it’s a helicopter landing spot, complete with “H” marking.
If I didn’t know any better, I might’ve called Shindo zaShunina’s sidekick. (LOL)
This “stacks of books” scene is something like what I imagined when I wrote White Parasite’s La Luna’s hideout in the mountains…that’s one of the reasons I’ve been able to give Kado and zaShunina an unyielding love. Also, I thought the promo 2D Shunina looked creepy, so this 2D shot of Shunina stole my heart!!!
The cube seats remind me of those child corners in libraries and that, where you have mini stools for playing pretend. Oh. Speaking of which, it reminds me of this Rubik’s cube.
Okay. I thought Kado would be a show devoid of such things, but let’s play the game of “What drugs were the producers on today?”
Okkkkkkkkkay. (stifles laughter) Did you realise the Shunina heads made a heart, with the “real” (existing in the normal dimensions) Shunina in the middle? Hahaha…
Wait. That screaming thing in episode…2, I think it was? The bit where Shindo grabs his head in agony?...was Shunina giving him (Shindo) the sense of the anisotropic? Ahhhhhhhhh. That makes sense now!
“They were good humans.” – Just in case you didn’t forget Shunina is an extradimensional bishie being. I guess it’s kind of along the lines of Kai’s (Royal Tutor’s) “You’re all good boys!”, which is true both there and here. In most cases (except maybe Shunina and Ward), the boys of Kado are good boys.
A bookmark. For an avid reader like Shunina (or myself…haha), it’s a perfect gift. Just make sure they’re not so heavy they fall out of books, because then they’re useless.
They put the festival scene in 2D! (It would be a cost cutting measure for sure, but…you know what I said about 2D Shunina previously? Yeah, that.) Also, it just goes to show you even a high concept sci-fi show like this goes for the jugular in depicting fanservice for the “people who like hot guys” and “people who like tsunderes”. However, did Shunina change his own clothes? Did Shindo or someone else get the yukata for him? Does Shunina even have the concept of “changing clothes”???
Fake Nintendo Switch. I’ve also seen this screenshot making the Tumblr rounds before.
LOL, giant turtle. I like turtles.
Haha, negotiating even at a festival. I LOLled too hard at the line, “What is buttered potato?” (but I also like buttered potatoes…I like a lot of things).
“Saraka-san, zaShunina, you, and the turtle will be in group B.” This typo’s the same case as the Gonno one earlier this ep.
“Are there any negative effects?”
How do you lose an anisotropic being at a festival? I actually hope he isn’t being rabidly devoured by a bunch of girls who think he’s hot.
Just seeing the credits reminded me that Shinawa was absent this ep (which was good). Also, has Natsume appeared in every ep’s credits so far? I don’t remember because I normally don’t watch credits.
Boku no Hero Academia 21
“Sparking Killing Boy”, LOL.
The more I watch Mei, the more I feel like I’m watching The Truman Show (where there’s one woman who advertises things near the beginning of the movie).
The belt transformation refers to sentai heroes.
Hmm…I agree with Deku on Aoyama’s strategy, since his laser is best used from afar.
That was an unexpected (for me) win for Tokoyami. I knew his Quirk was good all around, but I thought Yaoyorozu would win for sure. It’s just the difference in confidence, eh?
“…focussing on the shield Yaoyorozu made.”
I kinda get what Uraraka’s saying. After all, she might end up dragging Deku down one day by relying on him too much.
Grimoire of Zero 7
It annoys me how tavern girl looks so similar to Zero.
Why do fantasy travellers (or Brock in Pokémon, for that matter) never have big packs? You’d think they do…
The colour of the night sky in this episode is pretty.
This wolf’s like Sonic (One Punch Man). Such a sore loser.
Hey wait, did Thirteen see her…uh, assets? Did he dress her wounds?! Eep! I do not ship this. *shakes head*
Royal Tutor 8
Ouch, Licht, you got burnt! On the other hand, I agree with Bruno that he should sleep forever, noting past comments I’ve heard him (Licht) say.
Ah, the zoo. What nostalgia that brings. I’ve been to the closest zoo at least twice…thrice…four times…? I don’t remember anymore, but the zoo is always a fun place.
It’s smiling, ReLIFE style!
Braunbar (with umlaut over the second a) is German for…wait for it…brown bear.
Bunnies can bite you when you least expect it. From my experience, they don’t draw blood though. (How do I know this? There’s one outside my window as I speak. He’s probably someone’s stray, although no one’s come for him so my family have had to take care of him.)
Shut up, Licht! That’s not comedy, that’s just killing time!
I still wonder…how does Kai actually wear that jacket? It must be troublesome to put on if he’s always wearing it like that.
Ahhhh! Dangit, Kai’s too good for words. The only thing that can quell my “fan of bishies” heart is fangirl screaming.
Those “tricks” of yours didn’t work, Licht. Get out. Besides, Bruno, I barely remembered that brick joke.
My heart sank a little when I saw they weren’t using the cheesy live-action version of the ED. Still the next episode looks like it will address some plot-critical things, and I’m worried for Kai because he’s the sort who can’t get over his problems easily. (As a sidenote, a similar tabloid article shtick was used in SGRS, so I welcome this plotline.)
Tsukigakirei 7
Vita Sexualis is a Mori Ougai work, so I’m kinda on edge about it…knowing Bungou’s Ougai, that is.
Why does this ep’s title sound like it should be a Boueibu one instead???
These (mostly still) shots of theme parks just make it seem like the staff are scrounging for money.
According to the omake at the end of one ep, you’re meant to ship Roman with the teacher (as ick as that is), so I can understand why Roman’s on his lonesome.
Stop egging her on, Hira! She’ll get nervous! (I say that because I don’t like roller coasters much.)
I feel like the word “viva” is being overdone, attendant person. Google-sensei says the word means “live (verb)”, so it doesn’t make sense at all.
Hira’s freckles really don’t seem to be a mistake. Also my brain can’t make sense of “sorabune” – the word for ship/boat is “fune”, but it doesn’t become “bune” when attached to another word...not that I know of, anyway.
Yamashina? We’ve never been told Roman’s surname before…
Potori Water, LOL. Parody on Pocari Sweat if you didn’t know that.
It’s nice that they didn’t do the full-on “can on face at aumsement park” thing I’ve come to expect from romances, because Detective Conan kinda solidified that as the norm for me.
The Big O in this case isn’t an anime, it’s a Ferris wheel.
Josei Next Door did a CR article where she suggested people needed to talk to each other more, and while it was on The Royal Tutor, sometimes I wish Akane and Kotarou would talk to each other properly too…welp, I spoke too soon (sort of).Why “sort of”? Because Kotarou is speaking to Hira, but he ain’t speaking to Akane.
I feel a twinge of guilt in that I wanted Chinatsu’s and Hira’s dreams to be shattered to make way for the canon couple, and Chinatsu’s tears exacerbate that feeling. I guess this is what it’s like to be a shipper, eh – to ignore the feelings of couples in order to get your own way, knowing your dreams may not even become reality? (But can’t these kids all be happy??? It could easily be a “pair the spares” situation, now that I think of it.)
The takoyaki’s nice, but that background with the screaming girl is creepy…It appears to be a parody on Beavertails, for some odd reason. Why is there a Canadian product being used as product placement in an anime (and why a product I’ve only ever heard of from a Canadian TV show, to boot)???...*record scratch* Okay, I’m weirded out, and I admit defeat. Beavertails exist in Japan.
Couple selfies. That just goes to show how much trends can permeate culture…hey, does that mean people may one day use memes in anime? (Even though anime creates memes?) It’s meme-ception!
It seems live action footage was used for this show, if you look closely, and it’s not just the OP I’m talking about…
Finally, a part of Tsukigakirei I can get behind! These night scenes are so real! If it weren’t for Kotarou and Akane, I’d think these scenes to be photos and not animation at all.
I get this feeling that we’ll end with either their graduation or them as adults, with Kotarou telling their kids “…and this is how I met your mother.” Which would be awkward as all get out, but okay. (I haven’t seen How I Met Your Mother by the way, although it sounds like a scenario that would happen in it…)
Aw, dangit. They got their kiss interrupted. At least it wasn’t by Chinatsu, that would’ve caused more tears on her end.
Mireta (used in “Did you see the fireworks?”) seems to be an odd formation of mieta, but in slang, people break the grammar rules all the time, so I’d suspect people break the spelling rules too.
I was surprised to find out this ep’s ED LINE chat is a wife to a husband. That confirms my How I Met Your Mother thoughts, somewhat. (The husband had overtime and got the wife juice. It seems they were going to an event, because the wife says to check the invitation guest list...and so on, so forth.)
Oh? There are more omakes? I’ll watch ‘em someday when I’m bored…I guess.

I have always loved Pokémon, and my cousin used to ridicule me for "still" playing it when we were in middle and high school. She never played cards, watched the show, or played the games and thought it was stupid and childish that I did. When we got to college and it became "cool" again (aka all of us who loved it became comfortable talking about it), she pretended to love Pokémon and to have grown up loving and playing the games. It pissed me off that something she made me feel ashamed of was suddenly something she was pretending to love but whatever. Pokémon is something you can get into at any age and it would be cool if she could start sharing that with me (she didn't get into it, she just liked the cool points for claiming to be a Pokémon person). Same thing with Star Wars. Never seen one, made fun of me as a kid for loving it, now acting like a lifelong fan. I literally watched her order and then scarf down a ham sandwich earlier this week, but she tells people she's vegan (only in vegan-friendly circles where it's cool to be vegan). It's really frustrating for someone to take something I'm really passionate about and be so belittling and flippantly lie about it. Additionally, people who say they're vegan and then consume obvious animal products like cheese and meat make something that's already an issue worse: a lot of people hear "vegan" and think we still eat fish or dairy. A lot of this confusion is because of people who say they're vegan and then eat animal products - people see that and think, "Oh, they can still have dairy" or something similar. Many times I've heard "I have a vegan friend who eats eggs." That means that sometimes I go to an event or dinner, and even though I've emphasized that I'm vegan people still think I can sometimes have cheese or whatever. So sometimes I will ask if something is vegan, the server or person assures me that it is and gives me something containing things I don't eat. I literally get very sick when I eat it, so it's not only a violation of my ethics, but I also get ill. Fakers spread these misconceptions and cause problems. My cousin also pretends to be a Game of Thrones fan, but she has never watched the show, let alone read any of the books. It's incredibly popular so I guess she's just trying to relate to other people who like it/fit in/look cool, but it's so frustrating. I don't understand why you would just lie about that. If something is that popular, why not just try it out and see if you like it? Chances are if that many people do, then you might. It is just absolutely ridiculous to me to fake being a fan of something you have never actually interacted with. There's a long history of belittling things I love and care about and then turning around and pretending to like them when they're cool. There's a very long history of copying me, stealing my stuff, lying... i just don't know how to deal with this. I really want to let it go because it's stupid to be upset about this when it really doesn't affect me too much, but for some reason this REALLY grinds my gears and I can't stop myself from getting frustrated with it.
