Lilo & Stitch: The Two Timelines

Infodump time!

Do you know that L&S have several canons going on? Although people tends to try to compromise all of them together, the true is they are pretty defined. Sure, you can headcanon them whatever you please (and please do, that’s fun and creative!), but for the creators, it will always be several timelines.

Today we are going to talk about two of them of the at least four. I am excluding the animes from this analysis, both the japanese one Stitch! (created by Madhouse and Shin-Ei Animation) and the chinese one Stitch & Ai (created by Anhui Xinhua Media). I don’t know enough of them, nor I have any interest on these particular spin-offs to talk about them here.

So let’s start at the beginning!

Lilo & Stitch was released in 2002, and it was made by Walt Disney Pictures, AKA the Big Movies Team. This is the material all the other ones will use, and it’s canon in all the timelines. From there on, however, it will split.

In 2003, Walt Disney Television Animation releases Stitch! The Movie, a pilot for a tv series. This itineration it’s based on the first movie, and it also tries to include other material with lore that had been done at the time, such the video game Disney's Stitch: Experiment 626. Most focused on the space aspect and what happened to the other 625 experiments, it had less budget for animation and plot, but it was received warmly. The same team will later create Lilo & Stitch: The Series and the movie Leroy & Stitch (2006), making a consistent timeline through them all.

When Leroy & Stitch was in production, another team know as Walt Disney Home Entertainment was given permission for making their own L&S movie. The result was Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Have a Glitch, released in 2005. WDHE didn’t like what WDTA did with the franchise, and so they decided to tell their own story as a sequel from the first movie, ignoring anything WDTA or any other media had done before, creating a second, distintive timeline.

WDHE will also go the extra step to say their movie was the actual sequel, pointing it happened before all the other ones on the timeline instead of just saying it was a different one (and making a pretty poor attempt to tie them with a sweet but full of contradictions short). Disney never gave an oficial answer, but Chris Sanders is know to consider them separate canons.

The differences are not huge for the most part, but some of them are notorious. Here I collected all the ones I noticed. For the sake of brevity, the timeline of Stitch! The Movie and the consequent works will be referred as ST, while the timeline on Stitch Have a Glitch will be referred as GT.

As stated, ST was made to be consistet with other material released at the time. It works with the PS2 video Game Experiment 626, that follows Stitch breaking havoc on the galaxy before his arrest (which in itself is based on a deleted scene of the original movie where he was going to have a trial about that). It also works with a story releases on the Disney Adventures Magazine that stated Reuben had helped Jumba to create Stitch. GT deliberately ignores all prior material of the franchise.

Reuben is mentioned to have been an assistant to Jumba in ST, which ties with his possibly implication with Stitch’s creation. Other experiments, like Ace, are mentioned to have been active around the laboratory while Jumba worked. In GT, Jumba created Stitch alone, and if any other experiment exist at all on the timeline, they are not around during his arrest.

Similarly, if Hämsterviel (the main antagonist in ST) has ever existed on GT, it’s never mentioned. Same for the fact Jumba had married and divorced at some point.

Pleakley seems to be closer to his mother in GT. He adresses her as “mom” and voluntary calls her to chat at several points, seemingly with a better relationship than the one they had on the first movie. ST goes a completely different path, with Pleakley trying to distance himself from his famiy as soon as he’s able to and avoiding her calls. He adresses her with a more formal “mother” half the time and have clear family issues. ST also gives Pleakley two siblings that are never mentioned in GT.

Pleakley is a full-time crossdresser in ST. He wears dresses around the house and chooses femenine clothes, wigs and even undergarments for himself even when he’s alone. Although Pleakley also crossdresses on GT, it’s always only as a means of disguise, and Pleakley wears male clothes when he’s not pretending to be human. This is emphasized by the fact Pleakley chooses female attire to dance hula on ST, but male attire to do the same on GT.

Jumba’s English is much more broken in ST than on GT.

In ST, Stitch talks mostly Tantalog and behaves more like a dog. In GT, Stitch pretty much talks fluent English and acts more human.

Lilo acts more eccentric and weird in ST in general, but her agressive behavior has almost dissapeared completely. In GT, she still have violent outburst, but she’s also less extravagant.

Lilo is the only characters on the cast with a different voice actor. In ST she’s voiced by Daveigh Chase (same VA than the first movie), and in GT she’s voiced by Dakota Fanning.

In ST, Nani was the one that was a gifted dancer of hula as a child, and the reason Lilo wants to be good at hula herself. In GT, it’s her late mother instead.

David and Nani have a sort of on-off relationship in ST, sometimes stating they are casually dating and others being just friends. In GT, they had been formally dating fot three weeks.

In ST, Stitch, Jumba and Pleakley struggle to understand and adapt to their life on Earth (Stitch with belonging to the community, Pleakley comprehending human culture and Jumba not quite feeling part of the family). In GT, they are mostly adapted to their new life and their struggles during the movie don’t have anything to do with the fact they are aliens.

The Pelekai house it’s different after the rebuild. In ST, the house is painted blue and the attic room (Lilo and Stitch’s bedroom) resembles a dome with several windows. In GT, the house is green and the attic resembles a sphere with a single windows and a little antennae at the top. Compared with ST, it’s also taller.

The bedroom itself it’s also different. In ST, it have very minimalistic and sci-fi’s furniture, with metal floor and a futuristic look. Lilo have her own bed and Stitch sleeps on a hanging cot. The center of the roof can be opened to show the skylight. In GT, the room is more traditional and made of wood like the rest of the house, and both Lilo and Stitch sleep on a bunk bed. Half of the entire room is retractable to show the skylight.

In ST, said room is accessed through a vacuum elevator. In GT, through spiral stairs instead.

Mertle’s dad ran away from his family in ST, but it’s still living with them during GT.

One od the girls in Mertle’s posse changes names. She’s know as Teresa on ST and Aleka on GT.

What timeline do you like best? I personally like to mix and match a little bit of both on my stories, although I mostly prefer the ST canon.

9/1 Prompt for @tsshipmonth2020 ‘s Soulmate September stuff. I haven’t written a lot of Sanders Sides though [... Or fanfics in general that were more than oneshots/fallen projects. so expect roughness.

[I’ll be doing a mix of platonic soulmates and romantic soulmates as this goes on [If I write more], because I’m a big fan of the sides as a big poly web with Roman and Remus being the only two not actively dating because remro/m = no.]

This one’s the full web with remus and roman as platonic soulmates! Because start with your favorite thing.

[Remus is also probably a bit ooc, but I like the headcanon that he plays up his “Depravity” as a side, and in human!Au he’s just someone with a morbid fascination with death or biology that leaves most people unnerved/is prone to blurting out what he’s thinking without really caring about other people’s comfort until he’s told off.

Soulmate Marks had been appearing for centuries at this point with very limited knowledge on how or why exactly they did, a short list of names appearing in either a dark crimson for your lovers, or a glittering emerald for those who you bond with as friends or even a found family in most cases- both darkening with an outline the moment you came in contact with your soulmates. These started forming generally early on in life as your soulmates were born and names chosen, or you were born with them if you were the youngest of your soulmates.- Though rarely were they ever more than a year or two apart, and with astonishing frequently, you started meeting your romantic soulmates a few days after your eighteenth birthday.

It was a rarity for someone to have more than one [maybe two] of both, but when they were born, the Alvarez twins had a stretch of four crimson names, and the moment their names were chosen emerald swirled on each other’s wrists.

But that was almost two decades ago, now it was eighteen years later, nearing the end of the school year a few days after the twins’ birthday and Roman, once again, was trying to figure out his soulmates.

Patton Kravitz: His last name had changed quite a lot early on, which his parents said probably meant he was bouncing around in adoption centers until he settled in a few years prior. The original name was long forgotten in his memory, but he was sure it was’t a masculine name to start- but that was fine with them both, whatever pronouns- [Roman had a hard time switching to they in his head, but was working on it![- their soulmate had they knew to respect.

Logan Sanders: A simple, regular name. [Remus even jolted up about three times in the past week hearing either of the two seperate, but had to be reminded their birthday hadn’t come up yet, it was unlikely.], unlike the

Virgil: No last name, at least not one in english, Roman no matter how hard he tried to learn japanese for the sake of this soulmate was just unable to figure out how to read the kanji [Though Remus could, and it infuriated him to no end when he never said how to read it].

Janus : No last name again, though he had disappeared for a week, before coming back in the same exact place [Remus was the most panicked about this, his more... grim worries flashing through his head before Roman calmed him down, talking about how Patton’s name flickered a few times while his name was in flux, so maybe Janus was similar to patton, just took longer.

Roman quietly stared at the names on his wrist, again pencil tapping rapidly on his desk, a few rapid bounces of his leg came before the teacher called on him, jolting him out of his reviere and rushing to catch back up on which question they were on.

His brother behind him softly snorted, tapping a rapid series of things and Roman quickly flicked forward and read the line out with a narrowed from his teacher, but the bell rung right after and he quickly rushed to get his things and dart before he could get told off for daydreaming again.

Right behind him Remus playfully chided his brother with a low tsk. “C’mon, Ro, I thought we said you only get one longing lovestruck look at your names a day, that’s the third time I caught you thinking about them and how much you-”

Roman gently elbowed the other as he snickered, “Oh please, you’re the one who daydreams about the bedroom, I’m pure and chaste and romantic.”

“Say that to your picture of Aladdin-”

“He is a god among mortals and you will shut your face before I do-”

Remus’s cackle was heard through the hallway, the two seniors bickering on their way to the car as Roman slid into the passenger’s side, flapping his hands about in excitement as Remus let him jabber on, driving their way to a nearby coffee shop during their lunchbreak. He quickly passed by their usual one, Remus deciding to try different places nearby to hopefully get his brother to shut up about them for one second.

“What absurd thing’re you going to ask them to put on your cup this time?” Roman slid out staring Remus down, ticking his latest creations. “Last name sucker, first name Dick? Boo T Chaser?”

Remus shrugged, grinning wider than Roman had seen, “Just Remus!”

There was a second, Roman waiting for the beat to drop before he blinked, frowning. “... Remus?”

“Yeah, I mean you’re obsessed with our soulmates, might as well make it easier, besides seeing the two of us together and our last names on the cups should abso fucking lutely make these people notice. You think one of our soulmates’d be willing to bang me right after we meet or should I buy them dinner fi-”

Roman threw his hands up in the air, slamming them down to his sides with a snort that betrayed his annoyance. “Your pansexual ass needs to chill.”

“And your Ace ass is the only person I can talk to about this who won’t squirm in discomfort and would dropkick me. Thank god you’re not repulsed otherwise I have no idea how we’re soulmates if you can’t reign me in, princey.” Remus stuck his tongue out, ducking a grabbing hand at the childish nickname before walking in.

The shop itself wasn’t all too unique, a simple cafe with a chalkboard menu above the counter, currently being updated by a guy in a patchwork purple hoodie doodling all sorts of plants along the frame of the board. One of the baristas- dressed complete in suspenders and the hipster aesthetic from the looks of it [who else’d wear a necktie to a casual cafe]- pratling to a customer with a cardigan around his shoulders. Remus met the light chill of the AC with a happy sigh, quickly rushing to stand behind a guy with multicolored skin [Vitiligo- Roman remembered reading about it once] and he jolted when Remus had already moved to the register.

shit.

“Hi I want your darkest roast you’ve got, black, and sunshine here’s gonna need more cream and sugar than coffee. If it’s not whiter than a sheet of paper he won’t drink it.”

“Asshole.” Roman elbowed Remus, turning to the barista. “I’d like just a latte, if you don’t mind. And I’ll pay extra for it too, but if anyone working can do that fancy latte art stuff I’d appreciate it?”

“Very well.” The barista’s tone was an odd mix of clipped formality, and warm gentleness that immediately made Roman melt, and the Barista pulled out two cups real quick, grabbing papers. “Names? And please-” he glared at Remus. “This time, do not make me call out “Luke Kinfor Cawk”

Roman ignored the soft snort from the arist above them, hearing him grumble “Is that any way to treat a customer?”

He glanced up, glaring at the smirking artist- Remus gawking at his light makeup for a second and mumbling something about needing tips from the stylish asian indivudal- “I’ve been working here for a week, I’ll do better about it.”

“God I’m joking Lo, take a hint. Though you’re leagues above where you were when we met. Sorry about that.” The hoodie wearer hopped down, dusting his shirt and picking up a pen himself. “Welcome to the Roast, since he forgot to welcome you. I can do latte art, so any requests?”

“Yeah, can I kiss you-” Roman’s hand slapped over Remus’s mouth- surprised at the safe for work flirt and he stumbled out.

“My apologies, my brother here’s... Eccentric, I apologize if he’s ever gone too far.”

The barista shrugged- and Roman noticed neither of the employees had a nametag on. Odd. “The first time yes, but I just hold it against him since we’ve had a pretty decent rapport.”

“How you can stomach all that biology I don’t know. You two start prattling off those facts in the corner like it’s a science course.” The other two customers nearby snorted, trying to hide their eavesdropping as they themselves chatted, and the artist quickly pulled the labels off. “Names?”

“Roman and Remus Alvarez-”

All at once, four different things fell over. The pencil in the artist’s hand, the mug the barista was cleaning, the coffee that the cardigan clad guy was sipping from... and the 4th individual in his entirety, who somehow litterally fell over at the name spontaneously as though it shocked him.

The twins stared at one another for about half a second, seeing things processing on the other four, before Roman grinned, hands moving up and showing the lines of red names on his wrist.

“Virgil, Logan, Patton and Janus I presume?” Artist, Barista, Cardigan, and the one currently still on the floor in shock nodded in that order, and Remus cackled like mad.

“Ok now that it’s a LOT more kosher, Specs or Chalkboy, can I kiss you now” Remus helped Janus up from the floor, dusting his shirt off while pouting at the workers and Patton giggled.

“I get the feeling we’re gonna be skipping the rest of school today, Remus.” [Don’t do that kiddo!][Please do] “There’s a lot of stuff to talk about.”

BASICS.

full name. Tidus pronunciation. Teedus nickname. Ace, Star Player, Jecht’s son gender. Male (he/him) height. 5′9″ or 175 cm age. 17-18 && 20 in ‘Will’ zodiac. His true date of birth is unknown, so we can’t be sure. if we follow the trend of also Zidane and Squall etc DOBs, Tidus would be born on October 10th and be a Libra. but given he’d be the most dysfunctional Libra ever I personally doubt it ahah I headcanon him being born on July 19th, the day FFX was first released, so his zodiac sign here would be Cancer. spoken languages. Common Spiran which is the same language spoken in his Zanarkand, tiny bits of Al Bhed learnt during the pilgrimage.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS.

hair color. Dark blond with brown roots. As a child, he had light-brown hair. eye color. Sea-blue irises, the same as his mother’s. skin tone. Quite tanned, mostly the result of hours spent outside - probably practising under the sun. Actually, he isn’t fair-skinned even as a child - nor his parents seem to present a particular pale tone of skin which may have genetic reasons involved, but teen/adult Tidus would still be more tanned than he himself looked like as a seven-year-old boy. body type. He has an athletic built, which comes from his years of swimming and blitzball practice. He’s a little underweight for his height and age, though. At the age of seventeen, Tidus’ muscle form is already very defined and toned. accent. Tidus present a rather funny and child-like sounding accent most of the time - or when he’s not being too serious or firm; for example, his original dub has him ending sentences in --SSU, which is a very informal and friendly deflexion, also used by very young people. That makes it sound like he sometimes changes words in a rather playful manner (in the japanese dub), which would simply translate in him just sounding very informal. voice. He has a very sharp voice, that leans on higher tones when he’s relaxed or excited. When more serious, instead, he tends to drop some tones in his voice pitch, but he doesn’t really notice it, and when he does it doesn’t bother Tidus. dominant hand. He is right-handed, he’s seen throwing the ball in Blitz with that and he is also seen mostly kicking the ball with his right leg too. posture. He’s an athlete, swimming agonistically has proved to make back muscles stronger and firmer, so standing correctly straight comes as something natural and effortless to him. Still, Tidus tends to slouch forward very often when he sits, it’s very rare to see him sitting straight anywhere when he’s made wait long periods of time or when he’s particularly bored. In those cases, he really looks nothing like the athlete he is -- as he props his weight whenever it feels more comfortable. scars. Nothing major or too visible like his father, the few scars he’d have would mainly be the result of the most physical Blitz matches he has attended or just peculiar and tougher battles fought during the pilgrimage. tattoos. // birthmarks. // most noticeable feature(s). CHILDHOOD.

place of birth. Dream Zanarkand. hometown. Dream Zanarkand. birth weight. 7 pounds. birth height. Around 20 inches. manner of birth. Natural birth. first words. The common ones all toddlers learn first, or his own name. siblings. // parents. Unnamed mother and Jecht (father) parental involvement. His mother would difficultly care and hardly give proper attention to the young Tidus whenever her husband was home from work; she was still a very docile and gentle figure to the boy, a composed yet often distracted kind of mother. She’d often cater all her strengths and attentions to Jecht, sometimes ignoring or neglecting the child’s cries or pleas till her husband would make her notice at last; as a child, Tidus simply didn’t notice this side of her or chose to forget about it, thinking instead his father would keep her away from him on purpose to monopolize her affection - a fact that did add to his childish reasons to hate Jecht. His father would be home for way less time than Tidus’ mother, because of his work. He was a rougher and brusque type of parent and despite loving his son, he could never express it clearly nor found a way to show him. Still, his father was somehow the one who sparkled in Tidus his sense of competitiveness and his passion for blitzball, no matter if the man would often verbally belittle his weak son’s poor attempts with a ball – that’s the type of father Tidus has believed to know. Still, Jecht was involved in his growth, the novel even reveals it was him who taught Tidus how to swim as a child. Once Jecht disappeared and was believed dead by his fans and city, Tidus’ mother fell chronically ill and depressed, ceasing to care or tend to her son. She died of sheer heartbreak shortly after Auron came to Zanarkand to become Tidus’ guardian.

ADULT LIFE.

occupation. Ace Player of the Abes Team back in Dream Zanarkand; Guardian when brought to Spira; post X-2, Tidus returns being a Blitzball player (most likely playing for the Aurochs) and quickly regains his once-lost fame and popularity. current residence. Verse dependent. Dream Zanarkand before the events of FFX. Right after X-2, Besaid, but it is heavily implied he left the island to move to Bevelle a couple of years later his return, living near what’s called Mika-Road, the recently built street which leads to the new blitz stadium. close friends. Yuna, Wakka, Rikku, Auron, Kimahri, Lulu. A part of me really wants to add Clasko to this, too, while he’s obviously not as close as the others for Tidus. relationship status. Canon-ly speaking, in a relationship with Yuna. financial status. I’d say, he’s in the financial middle class. Considering Spira’s hierarchy, nothing can really top the clergy, the monks, the priests and priestesses, not to mention the ex Maesters which I would consider the higher class. As Blitzball is considered an integral part of Spira, but it is not a humble job, that’s the class he would be part of. driver’s license. Dream Zanarkand had cars and all but I guess he never got a license back there, and that kind of stuff just don’t exist in Spira; he has the chocobo riding license, haha, directly earned it through Calm Lands weird races. criminal record. By Spiran Temple standards and teachings, he’s accused of heresy for having entered the sacred Cloisters when still not a guardian twice; he’s also accused of having conspired with Al Bhed and joined their insurrection back at Home, and of having interrupted an important Yevon wedding in the holy capital. He’s also accused of having opposed and most likely killed warrior monks during the wedding crash, not to count Guado guards in Macalania and Home. He escaped prison and became a ‘most wanted’, too, with a bounty on his head. Plus, opposing Yunalesca and Yu Yevon could be associated with blasphemy. He did partake in the murder of Seymour, a Maester of Yevon, not to mention the fact Spira did believe Tidus and the others had killed Kinoc too. I guess the accusations all fell with the following crisis of the Temple and the disappearance of Sin but… vices. Being too loud, daydreaming, being too impatient. Pride.

SEX & ROMANCE.

sexual orientation. Heterosexual romantic orientation. Heteroromantic preferred emotional role. submissive | dominant | switch preferred sexual role. submissive | dominant | switch (?) libido. Average for his age and curiosity, I guess. A little above that if we consider the novel. turn on’s. // turn off’s. // love language. He’s anything but subtle when it comes to relationships and partners, even to a fault sometimes. He is a deeply affectionate boy despite the way he was raised, so he likes to prove it physically: hugs, hand-holding, pecks, kisses - love and tender signs and gestures, little favors and gifts, that’s just the tip of the iceberg. On a darker note, I guess it’s to be expected given his fear of loss and abandonment, but his love language is sincere nonetheless. relationship tendencies. He was and is still seen as a charismatic boy. At home, he’d have many fans and girls fawning over him at every given occasion over him (and his bond with Jecht) - and while the attention is something that did fuel him, sorta, I bet it was something that was seen as a way to get into first relationships. Maybe even out of fear of solitude. It changes once he leaves Zanarkand for good, I guess his devotion for Yuna speaks louder than any other word.

MISCELLANEOUS.

Swimming, playing blitzball, cooking and eating, reading Al Bhed primers, practising fighting and time-related spells, napping, daydreaming. mental illnesses. King of Prism SSS Episode 12 commentary (FINAL!)

Crunchyroll was awesome this time!

No significant complaints on the subs!

You guys were awesome this time!

So many people stuck around for the late viewing in the stream and even after just to chat!

Now on to the actual episode.

Once again sorry this is so long. But with this being the last one, can you really blame me.....?

.....As much I love this episode, this scene was just so painful. Worse than Shine’s show. Worse than that whole last episode combined.

A lot of my predictions about Part 4 were wrong (will discuss later) but I was absolutely sure of one thing. I knew no matter what happened in Part 4 just one thing was FOR CERTAIN. And that was... I was going to have to see Shin cry. This precious boy who deserves nothing but love is going to suffer. And I tried to prepare myself. I tried.

But somehow. Even though I knew. EVEN THOUGH I KNEW... It was way worse than I could have ever imagined.

I always assumed he would cry because he found out about something terrible about the past. But instead HE NEVER KNOWS THE TRUTH and we get him sobbing over something entirely NOT HIS FAULT... in front of everyone.... HOW.... HOW COULD THEY.... DO THIS... TO.... HI...M................

This scene upsets me so much I don’t know if I have ever even seen the whole thing. I always end up turning away at some point, or just curling up into a ball.....

Did anyone else feel like they were watching a totally different anime for a few seconds here? I’m having trouble telling if the style actually changed or if I.... just am not used to seeing Shin make expressions like this............. ba.....by..............

Leo always cries when anyone else is crying.

Even though everyone claps for him at the theater at cheering shows, it doesn’t make me feel better. AT ALL. Because Shin never knows the truth. NONE OF THEM DO. Okay we’ll talk about this more later but just..... gah it hurts........................................ So much that it actually hindered my enjoyment of what amazing thing comes next......

Back in the first movie era, the idea of a full CGI show of the Edel Rose boys with Shin as center was something that I could not imagine coming true even in my wildest dreams. And I love this show. I just wish it wasn’t proceeded by so much suffering.

Shin being their center was something they decided at the Christmas live (before performing Dramatic Love for the first time) BTW. While it seems obvious to us that Shin would be center, it wouldn’t necessarily be as such in-universe. They had to decide at some point! And I’m glad it was a part of that story.

I LOVE THESE OUTFITS.

I really do love this show, and like with the new Shuffle’s show last week I’m so glad I can finally watch it without the.... suffering.

The first time I saw this in theaters, this exact frame right here was when I first started feeling any semblance of better after all that had happened. He looks so confident and gallant and his eyes are shining and he just.... Shin............... I love you so much....................................................................

Also this is a good spot to talk about their feathers I guess. So these are different from the other (male?) wings Shine had. Why? What does that mean?

*throws hands in the air*

So, some folks may not be aware of this but the feathers from Rainbow Live were a feature of the arcade game.

You could unlock them by raising the PairTomos, and even the night dream feathers look like they were available at one time during an event it seems?? I am not entirely sure how it all worked since I never played the game back in the heyday. (You can no longer obtain all the feathers now even if you bring a memory card to a currently running Pretty Rhythm machine since some just aren’t available anymore.)

But anyway, the actual point I was trying to make is that the feathers had a set structure within Rainbow Live since it was grounded by the arcade game. But in King of Prism...... that just kinda do what they want.... s....o.............

The first time I went to cheering for this it was the premiere date, and it was also the first time I ever did cheering the same day. In between the morning/midnight showing a whole bunch of people had the idea to go to the 100 yen shop and get glowstick rings just for this scene. I was like daaaamn.

But then...

And I can’t help laugh at the irony that Crunchyroll abandoned using “the prism” but also just ignored the translation ALREADY ON SCREEN

I can’t take his scream here. It’s just like.... HE WAS ALREADY DYING, WHY DID THEY HAVE TO SPEED UP THE PROCESS.

Even as late as it is, I am really, really grateful how they took a few seconds to establish for the new audience exactly how much of their shows are powered by prism sparkle.

Note that they did not change out of their costumes though. But my headcanon on this is that Leo just prefers to make the real thing because he can.

Singing at cheering shows is also everything I have ever wanted.

I feel bad though since I pretty much always get tongue tied here every time. It’s hard to just sing acapella to a song you’re not that familiar with. Especially with the sparkely lyrics appearing and disappearing like this. I actually don’t hear that many other people singing in the theater, perhaps for that reason? But I always try my best.

And now that this is finally out, I can finally practice at home and nail this down with confidence just in time for...... SSS to leave theaters..... um............ ye....ah........

I also mess this up like every single time ahaha. It’s just slightly too fast for me to read.

Someday I will succeed in properly marrying all of the Edel Rose boys. Someday.

(Also I don’t think this was rainbow-colored in the theatrical version.)

So Edel Rose and all their fans just up and created a prism goddess so we don’t need the prism gods anymore. Can they do that? Can we do that? I guess we can!

WE DID IT GUYS

It’s oddly fitting that Hijiri is kind of an ugly crier. I mean, he’s just so beautiful the rest of the time. It’s only right.

So let’s unpack this for a sec. Unbeknownst to them, because the Edel Rose boys all married each other they put a new seal on Shine. But this seal is entirely dependent on their marriage their bond with each other.

How literal is that I wonder?

Because like.... Edel Rose won’t last forever. Kakeru, Minato, and Yukinojo are gonna be going to college in a year and a half.... ahah ha.....

I just imagine like. A couple of them meeting on the street in the distant future being like “Oh man I haven’t seen you in forever!” “Yeah! We really lost touch! Hey, have you heard from Shin lately?” “No, you?” And behind them is like a TV report of Shin become Shine destroying a city or something.

.....................Reminder again that this commentary is coming from the place where I am after having a couple months to let this all sink in and get to the point where I am comfortable joking about it.... ahah ha........

This is one of my coping mechanisms for dealing with the idea that my favorite character basically has the devil living inside of him trying to take over at any moment.....

Another one is thinking back to older King of Prism media and wondering what Shine was doing at that time. Like, I imagine him floating there inside Shin all bored and pissed off making sarcastic comments at whatever the Edel Rose boys are doing. And I find this hilarious for some reason. I’d make a webcomic about it if I could draw.

ANYWAY

So my understanding of this scene (which may or may not be totally correct) is: The Edel Rose boys’ rings put a seal on Shine which drags him down back into the depths of where Rinne first plunged him. But before he goes, he installs(?) his powers into Shin so that Shin is free to use Shine’s powers on his own now. (Up until now he was just like borrowing them?)

If you also briefly wondered how they could have gotten a perfect score after failing a jump, my guess is the Prism System just wasn’t recording at that time due to the lack of prism sparkle ahah ha.

They absolutely mopped the floor with the new Shuffle, and it did not matter.

What makes this so nuts to me is that even before I saw Part 4, like way back after I first saw episode 5 I was already comparing Joji to a twisted Hiro. (Elaborated on this in my episode 5 post.) And then this aha.

So in the theatrical version I swear the crowd here has light blue lights. And I wondered if it was on purpose to be like inverted Hiro (who goes from light blue -> yellow in the Prism King Cup, so Joji went yellow -> light blue?) but nope, I guess somebody just forgot Joji’s theme color is yellow ahaha. In the TV version they just made it multi-colored.

So to add more context to some things, you may remember I mentioned before that Part 4 premiered in Japanese theaters in the gap between when Taiga and Kakeru’s episodes aired on TV. So by the time Joji’s episode aired on TV... I already knew this was gonna happen. I already knew we were watching the number one prism show. THE CHAMP. The only 2D prism show.... SO MUCH IRONY.

But you know what. Despite his show being what it was..... After all the time to let it sink in.. After all the dust has settled.... the one solo song which is my clear favorite..... The only one which has gotten stuck in my head WAY MORE than ANY other.... is Joji’s.

(Well, Ace’s. But still.)

Never thought I’d say this but poor Jin. Even when he ACTUALLY TRIES to do something fair for once...... still......

Poor Joji? Or not. It’s hard to feel bad for him when he’s THE PRISM CHAMP ahaha. Like. He made it. He has everything he ever strived to obtain. On the surface anyway.

How Nori-kun feels about this though, who knows. Will we ever?

DOES IT REALLY NOT? Haha I really don’t understand this at all. Like. Was it really political pressure? Did Jin fold since he didn’t win in the way that he wanted to? Did Kakeru pull some strings behind the scenes again?

The official King of Prism Twitter and such were actually pretty good at hiding Dorachi before Alexander’s episode aired. But Torachi was just EVERYWHERE and I was like COME... ON. REALLY.

So you may have noticed this but he was added to the opening too. For us seeing SSS in the theaters, we only get one OP per showing. So this means Japan actually got this spoiled before episode 10.

But I didn’t. I didn’t even notice because I just wasn’t thinking to look for it. (Also I guess sitting in a terrible seat to the far right twisting my neck at an angle may have had something to do with it but.) When I first saw the reveal of Torachi in episode 12 it was TOTAL SURPRISE for me......

But as much as I love Taiga though, Dorachi is my clear favorite. My Dorachi merch collection will start as soon as I can get my hands on ANYTHING

Also I wonder at what point Alexander figured out that DJ COO was Rei, because he sure knows now ahah.

But anyway, speaking of spoilers....

I know I said at one point Nikkanen and the twins didn’t have any significant appearances in SSS, but that was before Part 4 and I just decided not to correct that and let you guys be surprised AHAHAH you’ll just have to hate me *BLASTS OFF INTO THE SUNSET*

(I’m so glad they seem to have cleaned up Nikkanen’s face a little. He looked so weird in the theater. Or like.... weirder at least.)

The week before Yu’s episode aired I AGONIZED about whether to put in some kind of vague hint that the Edel Rose boys new unit name was revealed in that episode (as part of Yu’s prism jump). Ultimately I decided not to. Because even though I didn’t figure it out at the time, I think with even a vague hint I probably would have. Because even when I saw it back then I was like.... “...... huh........”

So you’re just gonna hafta haaaaaaaaate ahahaahah ha sorry

But anyway! Now I can finally stop referring to our seven stars as the “Edel Rose boys” and from now on call them SeptEntrion! Since calling them just the “Edel Rose boys” isn’t really accurate anymore since it would also include the twins and Nikkanen, etc. I’m happy that the main seven finally have a good name to distinguish them.

(Now I need to learn to remember how to spell SeptEntrion....)

So, a few weeks ago I was in Tokyo and I decided to stop by the Yotsuya station area.

I found the site of the supposed Yotsuya Credit union (which is actually a lottery ticket stand) and the KPO KFC almost immediately.

I also found out there is a Catholic university in the area, and although it doesn’t look anything like Edel Rose that seems like not a coincidence.

So I started to walk around that area, but try as I might I could not find any little shopping streets like the one in the anime. The area didn’t look like it would have that sort of place at all. Also it was POURING RAIN, I was just at Aqours 5th live the previous day, I had at least 6 hours to get home, and I was anxious to make it there with plenty of time for the stream of Alexander’s episode which we were doing that night. I decided to give up and head to the KFC to console myself over chicken, coleslaw, and biscuits before beginning the journey home when LOW AND BEHOLD

I can’t help but notice that while they used Prism One performance snapshots for all the other boys, Shin is in his old Over the Sunshine outfit. Well I mean. OF COURSE HE IS. But.....

But I really can’t help but wonder what the boys are thinking nowadays in retrospect about what happened.

I mean, not that they shouldn’t love and trust Shin. Of course they should.

But if my friend turned to pure evil for a solid 15 minutes I would be.... CONCERNED for him? ?? To say the least.

The fact that THEY DONT KNOW AND MAY NEVER KNOW really just eats at me

I suppose Louis or June could tell them. But I don’t think Louis ever will since he just wants to protect Shin, and June..... where would she even start.

Not to mention what does Yamada-san think about how Shin just BECAME Wataru Hibiki like I.... I just have several questions but......

I wondered for weeks what the TV ED would be for this episode, and as soon as Boy Meets Girl started playing I was like...... OF. COURSE.

Hahah I’m glad though. So far the only SeptEntrion version Boy Meets Girl we’ve had was live (at MRS) and I often thought of ripping the audio from the DVD just to have it, but now I won’t have to. The TV audience never got to hear the theatrical ending 366 Love Diary though, which is kind of a shame. That song is such a big part of SSS to me.

So when we do the livestreams, I often have the live episode playing on my actual TV with the sound off. The stream is delayed by a few minutes so it’s been great for cues to help prepare stuff to type into the chat about things coming up.

While you guys were still in the meat of this episode, I casually glanced over my shoulder and saw THIS on my TV

And just started having a seizure that lasted until the credits ended BECAUSE THEN THIS. THIS RIGHT HERE.

(It has actual dialogue in the theaters, but here they just muted it and laid it over the credits. I went to the theater yesterday JUST to take notes on this for you guys ahaha. Glad I didn’t need to though.)

I was so SO sure this was a joke. I mean Prism 2!?! Seriously!?

So Part 4 turned out way differently than I predicted. When the episodes were first announced and episode 12 was “Unknown”, my immediate thought was “it’s gonna be Shine.” Especially since the quote for Shin’s episode was something like “what have I done,” I assumed he would gain some memories of the past in episode 11 and was talking about something he/Shine did in the past. Then I thought Shine would perform in episode 12 and cause a bad end. Even though we knew Edel Rose was scheduled for a unit performance, I was skeptical if it would actually happen or not as I doubted Shin would be in any condition to perform in episode 12. (I also wondered if maybe we already HAD already seen their unit show in the OP and thus wouldn’t be getting a new song.)

But when the CDs were announced and I saw the last one said “unit song” I was like.... ohhh.... I guess they will perform as a unit after all? That’s good?

Turns out I was right at least in predicting that Shine would get a show, but not that he would STEAL SHIN’S SHOW, and that Shin’s “what have I done” quote was about THE PRESENT DAY and something that Shin DID NOT DO. AHHH THE PAIN.

Although it really cuts me deep that Shin never learns the truth, I am grateful we got that unit show and a happy ending.

But....

OR IS IT?

says a voice in my head.

Shine’s coming back someday. And we can’t kill him without blanking Shin. Hghkhgkdhlkdh.

If I didn’t know any better I’d say the grand endgame climax of King of Prism would be SeptEntrion teaching Shine to love. But we already know from director spoilers that supposedly the grand climax is about saving Jin. I have a sinking suspicion Shine and Jin may be connected in some way though.

Who fucking knows where we’re going from now.

Other than WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON with Jin, another one of my big questions is does the Prism King Cup even matter anymore? Since the Prism One was supposed to replace it, but that didn’t go so well. HAHAH are we REALLY doing the Prism Two come on now..........

But anyway. I suppose there is no point in drawing this out it any further

Thank You + Explanation

[I want to say thank you for all of the kind words said over the last day or so. Even the smaller gestures were deeply appreciated, I assure you. I don’t think I skipped over anyone when I showed appreciations, but let this serve as an official thank you to those whom I did not initially acknowledge.

For those who do not happen to be Latin nerds, by the way, the phrase ‘dabo tibi gratias’ is ‘thank you’. Though it is translated more literally as ‘I will give you gratefulness’ or ‘I will give you thanks’. Amicus/amica/amicum all mean friend, but that could probably be assumed.

I wanted to use Latin because it feels like such an expressive sort of language and it conveys a meaning that I felt appropriate. I’m not the most articulate when it comes to conveying my own emotions and feelings, so a phrase in a dead language that has a sort of spiritual overtone felt... right. Yes there’s probably a thousand other languages I could have used other than it, but I just like the sound of it.

TL:DR for the first part: Thank you. Your words all meant a lot to me.

Now we get on to why I was freaking out/we play the game of ‘MoonClaw tries to explain his irrational fears because he always feels like he needs everything to have a reason and explanation because reasons’. Will be placed under a cut to avoid spam over the dash.

So, why was I freaking out so much? Why did I feel like I had to hide what is, at the end of the day, a simple headcanon? Why was I being an anxiety-riddled idiot without a proper spine?

If this were any other character, even on any other platform, I would have had no issue in stating ‘they are asexual and they do not desire sex in any way shape or form’. None at all. I have done so with a couple of characters I’ve played in the past.

So why Magnus, and why here and now?

I am very much cognizant of how Magnus is perceived on this platform in this corner of the community. People love him, people lust after him, people will go on and on and on about how hot and how ‘daddy’ he is.

And I felt like I did not want to break that perception because it seemed everyone expects me to play Magnus like that. Like he’s attractive, like he gets men and women and everyone in-between.

I felt like, if I declared him asexual and disinterested in sex, people would desert me. They would bring out the acephobic comments like ‘well, has he ever tried it?’ ‘Have you ever tried doing a smutty roleplay with him before?’ ‘You’re wasting so much potential, look at him! He’s gorgeous!’. I didn’t feel as though people would be open to the idea of him not being interesting in having sex with anyone. Essentially, it was me feeling pressure from many people all lusting after him, and I feared that, upon me declaring him ace and disinterested in sex, almost everyone would disassociate with me.

To me, Magnus is an interesting and complex character. I love how nerdy he is, I love how intellectual he can seem, I love how he conducts himself and how, when everything hits the fan, he can finally admit, on some level, that he was oh so wrong about everything. I love me some tragic characters, and I love intellectual ones too. The man built libraries with millions upon millions upon millions of books because he understands how vital knowledge is, and he wants everyone else to see as he does. He hates knowing that people are so blind to the wonders that he finds are commonplace.

Not once in my reading have I ever been able to say ‘I can see him in bed with someone’. I can see him maybe on a couple of dates, because he does not want to disappoint someone, but never could I see him in bed. Maybe it’s due to my own ace viewpoint, but he seems like a good character for ace representation. It’s never explicitly stated that he is ace, but think about this.

Here we have a man who is immensely powerful and intelligent. He’s got good looks, he can be charismatic, he would seem perfect to many allosexual people. The perfect ‘daddy’.

But he’s not interested in any of that. He wants to better humanity. He wants humanity to be able to explore its full potential. Sex is a frivolous thing to him. He understands why others may want it, but he doesn’t. And that’s okay. He would prefer to be reading or learning or educating others or traveling the tides of the Great Ocean. Nothing is wrong with him. He has no disorder to make him feel no attraction, no mental condition, nothing. He’s just asexual.

Maybe it’s me trying desperately to get some good ace representation in a world where being ace is still, in the mainstream, seen as someone just being scared or having some sort of disorder or something. Maybe it’s me being blinded by my own ideals and ambitions and thus I’m missing all of the subtext other people may be seeing.

Who knows? I certainly don’t.

Essentially this all boils down to ‘I felt peer pressure and I caved in under anxiety so I kept my mouth shut until a friend and some kick ass Finnish Japanese symphonic folk-death metal inspired me to finally say it and get it out into the open’.

But let it be known, on this blog, Magnus the Red is asexual, and no, he is not interested in sex. Your advances will be denied. Not in any harsh rebuke, obviously, but do not expect anything from him.

I am not opposed to romantic relationships, but the Crimson King is ace. Sorry to anyone who I have disappointed/they were hoping to bag him one day, but he is officially off the table.]

It seem that people in the fandom love to complain about anything...

About Christmas, yes now it doesn’t feel like a Christian holiday anymore with Santa Claus, the renders, the little elfs, etc. Plus it’s realistic for a story in France to have Christmas since we celebrate it for centuries, even before it being Christian as it is now a mix of Romans and Celtic traditions. It feels more realistic than the Thanksgiving picture on Instagram which is an US only holiday...

The show already has a good representation. We have a lot of characters of colour: 3 out 4 between the main protagonists, between the miraclass and between the background characters plus two characters coming from the French islands above seas which is pretty rare in French media. We have queer coded characters (Julerose, Marcaniel, Knight owl x Majestia and Alix and Max being aroace (confirmed by Astruc, one is aro and the other is ace but I don’t remember which one... I think Alix is aro and Max ace?), Marc breaking the gender codes by wearing make up and jewels (plus having an rainbow pun in his full name, implying he's queer, nonbinary or trans as headcanon by some fans, but we don't know) and marigami mentioned as a couple possibility by André, implying canonically they're both bi/pan). We also have cultural representation: Chinese mostly, lit bit of Japanese myths, but also Native Americans, Brazilian and a country in Africa with the special episodes.

The lore seems realistic (having miracle box across the word) and it’s not USA centred, France centred or Europe centred. Marinette having problems to communicate with her mother’s uncle because of language barrier (which magically disappear in most stories (like in NY? But maybe it’s because the miraclass learns English as school?)). People making references to their own culture: Marinette and her Chinese heritage, Kagami and her Japanese culture, Alya and her creole culture.

In the French dub, we have realistic accent. Sabine doesn’t have à Chinese one as she certainly grew up in France while Master Fu has a little one as an expatriated since French isn’t his mother language. (like I could still have a French accent while talking in English despite being mostly bilingual by now after living months in an English speaker country.)

ML also destroyed a lot of clichés, especially romantical ones:

Marinette’s dream is to become designer while Adrien dreams of dating Ladybug when it's often the other way around: Marinette has a dream outside her love interest while Adrien only wants to be loved.

Marinette is in love with Adrien (his civil part) while Adrien is in love with Ladybug (her hero part) when it's often the other way around: Marinette is in love with his soft/vulnerable part while Adrien is in love with her "cool/leader" part.

Marinette loves pink (and white too) but it isn't despicted as childish or in a bad way.

Same for Rose (which also means pink in French along side with the flower name) who loves unicorns and girly things but also sings metal.

The love rivals are friends (even ships together) instead of being ennemies so we have a healthy love triangle/diamond and not a toxic one.

ML said no to using someone to forget about a previous love interest as showing it doesn't work.

Jealousy was never use to create drama. Characters are understandable (Luka), sad (Marinette and Adrien) or setting their boundaries when they don't approve of something or how they are been treated (Kagami): showing healthy behaviours and relationships and communication and normal reactions instead of the toxic jealousy level.

The sportive one is best friend with the nerd one and the girly one is best friend (dating?) the goth girl when often they bully them for being different in other type of media.

The autistic coded character is a Black boy instead of a white boy and he isn't despicted as being a cold asshole like often in media, but really nice and polite.

There are probably a lot more I don't think about as the moment. So don't hesitate to add them!

I just learned something interesting about the French law.

I read a lot here that a lot of fans think Thomas Astruc is islamophobic because he said he won’t put Muslim women (i mean ones who wear a hijab or other types of veil <- is that the correct word in English?).

The truth is he can’t. In France animators aren’t allowed to show religious people in shows targeted for kids. You know, because of the stupid logic that diversity will traumatise children like queer representation will... (I said interesting not intelligent)

So since the studio is French they are limited by French laws. So that why Thomas Astruc won’t show Muslim women wearing a veil because he legally can’t.

So well I thought it was important to clear that point ^^

Notes for Storming the Castle, Chapters 1 & 2

Hello to my lovely AkaFuri readers! I just posted Chapter Two of Storming the Castle, so here are my notes for the fic, finally. (It turns out the delay was a good thing, because my plans for the fic changed a bit!)

About the Length/Format

Storming the Castle story should be novella length, around 30K~40K. (Fast Train was 85K, so about half that length or less!) The fic has two main parts, one half of the story for each visit. I was going to divide them into six chapters, whenever I switched point of view, but... That would’ve made two really long chapters, and four short ones? (Plus a longer wait for the long chapters!) So instead, there will be eight shorter chapters. The PoV will go like this:

Furi --> Akashi --> Akashi --> Furi --> Akashi --> Furi --> Furi --> Akashi

(Ch. 2 & 3 are basically like a single chapter from Akashi’s PoV, while 6 & 7 are a single Furi PoV. There will also be a short Furi PoV epilogue at the end.)

... Hopefully it will be obvious why I did this once I post more of the story? Either way, at least the chapters won’t take as long to write as Fast Train. XD (For anyone who liked the longer chapters, the third story in my AkaFuri series should be closer to Fast Train’s length!)

Cultural & Miscellaneous Notes

Here are some notes for Chapters One and Two! Mostly about Japanese culture things. A lot of anime fans are probably familiar with most of this, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to write it, in case anyone was curious or wanted details.

(Also, I should mention that I stole a lot of the things in this fic from my sister’s experiences studying and teaching in Japan, so thank you, @spinelstar! I’ll probably talk about my favorite example of that in my notes for Chapter Three.)

On Sleepovers

Generally speaking, Japanese kids don’t spend the night at their friends’ houses as often as kids in Western countries do. Some of it has to do with space; many Japanese houses don’t have a lot of room for guests, and privacy is limited. But also, it’s a bigger deal for guests to visit in general! That doesn’t mean overnight visits never happen, but there isn’t the same “sleepover culture” that I experienced growing up in the U.S. So Akashi being unsure of the “rules” of sleeping over has partly to do with his upbringing as an Akashi, and partly to do with how it isn’t as frequent in Japan. (Which is why Midorima isn’t sure how to answer his questions, and why a guy like Takao--who don’t care as much about politeness--would just wing it. //laughs)

On Bringing Gifts/Temiyage/Omiyage

On that note, there are Japanese customs for house visits in general. If you visit someone’s home, it’s polite to bring a gift. It’s also polite to insist the gift isn’t very good, and for the recipient to refuse it, sometimes multiple times! The recipient may also wait until later to open it. Here’s a rundown of some fairly common visiting etiquette, and more about gift-giving is here and here. In the fic, Akashi gives Furihata’s mother his gift right away, as it’s intended to be refrigerated. (What it is will come up in Chapter Three!)

Visiting gifts are called temiyage. There’s another type of gift called omiyage, in which Japanese people who go on a trip pretty much anywhere are expected to bring back souvenirs for their friends and family. So basically, there are tons of occasions where Japanese families receive gifts! Often a Japanese home will have some of these items on display, or even stuffed in a closet. (The tendency for this to cause clutter is one reason why food gifts are usually preferred.)

On Zaibatsu

I won’t go into this too much, but Akashi’s family in KnB is pretty clearly supposed to be a zaibatsu. The real-life reality of modern zaibatsu is not the same as in popular fiction... But in anime at least, zaibatsu are incredibly powerful old families who are ridiculously wealthy, and head up massive conglomerates. An example of a real-life conglomerate that started as a zaibatsu is Mitsubishi.

On the Genkan

There are different styles of houses and apartments in Japan, but basically all of them will have a genkan! This is the space right at the front door where you take off your shoes. It’s often lower than the rest of the floor, and you leave your shoes inside. Then you walk around the rest of the house in socks, and/or wear slippers.

It’s not always practical for the host family to provide super comfortable slippers to their guests (it’s more common to have a basic pair, if that), but since Furi and Akashi are so close in size, I thought a lending situation would be cute. ❤️ (Or maybe I just wanted to make a “perfect fit” joke because fairy tales, but uh anyway. XD Though I guess it isn’t really Cinderella, maybe more like The Prince and the Pauper? //laughs)

(Also, for anyone curious, I generally picture the Furihata house as looking something like the third photo in this blog entry, or the sixth photo on this page. Both give you some idea what a typical Japanese house looks like!)

On Summer in Japan

The fic takes place in mid-July of their second year, during the start of summer break. So I tried to incorporate a lot of things that are associated with summer in Japan! Mid-July is when the rainy season ends. The rainy season in Japan is unbelievably humid. Hydrangeas bloom during that time, like the ones outside Furihata’s house. Then after the rainy season comes the really hot summer. (I do not recommend visiting Japan in the summer, personally? I have done it, and... yeah. So much sweating. XD) Japanese coping mechanisms include AC units (usually a wall unit in a room with a remote control), fans of all kinds, chilled barley tea, and food like watermelon and chilled soba noodles. Another Japanese item with summer associations is a glass wind chime. (As in this emoji! --> 🎐)

On Shichi-Go-San

One thing that was specifically Japanese about the photo album Furihata’s mother showed Akashi was the photo of the coming-of-age event Shichi-Go-San. This is a sort of ceremony for Japanese kids that happens first when they turn three, and then again when boys turn five and girls turn seven. It’s a really popular time to take pictures, because the children get dressed up in traditional clothes and go to a shrine for a blessing. They also get candy called chitose-ame, which they usually carry around in a long, colorful bag. It’s supposed to bring them property and long life. (”Chitose” stands for a thousand years.)

(If you haven’t seen little kids doing this in person before, I urge you to do a Google image search for “shichi-go-san” and prepare for your brain to melt because it’s pretty much the cutest thing in the known universe.)

On Furihata’s Family’s Names

It’s probably painfully obvious, but I’ve been dying to write about Furihata’s family for forever! The Furihata surname itself means “below the standard” (via this post!), which is... not the most auspicious name? //laughs But it’s why I always pictured them as a very typical, “ordinary” sort of family.

Kouki (光樹) has the kanji for light in his name, and the full translation in the above post is “establishes brilliance.” I always thought that was such a fitting name for him! I wanted his family’s names to sound a bit like his, while also being common names, and having meanings that fit their characters. For his brother, I tried to pick a name that matched my take on his personality, and I came up with Kintarou (金太郎). Which means “golden first son” (and is also the name of a popular folk tale character!). Furihata’s mother is Kaori, and Furihata’s father is Yoshio. Here are the kanji I picked for them:

香織 = Kaori, “fragrance weave” (shares a kanji with the name Shiori because I’m a mean person, also I like to headcanon that they would’ve gotten along)

良夫 = Yoshio, “good man” (also can be read “agreeable husband” //laughs)
