Thank You + Explanation
[I want to say thank you for all of the kind words said over the last day or so. Even the smaller gestures were deeply appreciated, I assure you. I don’t think I skipped over anyone when I showed appreciations, but let this serve as an official thank you to those whom I did not initially acknowledge.
For those who do not happen to be Latin nerds, by the way, the phrase ‘dabo tibi gratias’ is ‘thank you’. Though it is translated more literally as ‘I will give you gratefulness’ or ‘I will give you thanks’. Amicus/amica/amicum all mean friend, but that could probably be assumed.
I wanted to use Latin because it feels like such an expressive sort of language and it conveys a meaning that I felt appropriate. I’m not the most articulate when it comes to conveying my own emotions and feelings, so a phrase in a dead language that has a sort of spiritual overtone felt... right. Yes there’s probably a thousand other languages I could have used other than it, but I just like the sound of it.
TL:DR for the first part: Thank you. Your words all meant a lot to me.
Now we get on to why I was freaking out/we play the game of ‘MoonClaw tries to explain his irrational fears because he always feels like he needs everything to have a reason and explanation because reasons’. Will be placed under a cut to avoid spam over the dash.
So, why was I freaking out so much? Why did I feel like I had to hide what is, at the end of the day, a simple headcanon? Why was I being an anxiety-riddled idiot without a proper spine?
If this were any other character, even on any other platform, I would have had no issue in stating ‘they are asexual and they do not desire sex in any way shape or form’. None at all. I have done so with a couple of characters I’ve played in the past.
So why Magnus, and why here and now?
I am very much cognizant of how Magnus is perceived on this platform in this corner of the community. People love him, people lust after him, people will go on and on and on about how hot and how ‘daddy’ he is.
And I felt like I did not want to break that perception because it seemed everyone expects me to play Magnus like that. Like he’s attractive, like he gets men and women and everyone in-between.
I felt like, if I declared him asexual and disinterested in sex, people would desert me. They would bring out the acephobic comments like ‘well, has he ever tried it?’ ‘Have you ever tried doing a smutty roleplay with him before?’ ‘You’re wasting so much potential, look at him! He’s gorgeous!’. I didn’t feel as though people would be open to the idea of him not being interesting in having sex with anyone. Essentially, it was me feeling pressure from many people all lusting after him, and I feared that, upon me declaring him ace and disinterested in sex, almost everyone would disassociate with me.
To me, Magnus is an interesting and complex character. I love how nerdy he is, I love how intellectual he can seem, I love how he conducts himself and how, when everything hits the fan, he can finally admit, on some level, that he was oh so wrong about everything. I love me some tragic characters, and I love intellectual ones too. The man built libraries with millions upon millions upon millions of books because he understands how vital knowledge is, and he wants everyone else to see as he does. He hates knowing that people are so blind to the wonders that he finds are commonplace.
Not once in my reading have I ever been able to say ‘I can see him in bed with someone’. I can see him maybe on a couple of dates, because he does not want to disappoint someone, but never could I see him in bed. Maybe it’s due to my own ace viewpoint, but he seems like a good character for ace representation. It’s never explicitly stated that he is ace, but think about this.
Here we have a man who is immensely powerful and intelligent. He’s got good looks, he can be charismatic, he would seem perfect to many allosexual people. The perfect ‘daddy’.
But he’s not interested in any of that. He wants to better humanity. He wants humanity to be able to explore its full potential. Sex is a frivolous thing to him. He understands why others may want it, but he doesn’t. And that’s okay. He would prefer to be reading or learning or educating others or traveling the tides of the Great Ocean. Nothing is wrong with him. He has no disorder to make him feel no attraction, no mental condition, nothing. He’s just asexual.
Maybe it’s me trying desperately to get some good ace representation in a world where being ace is still, in the mainstream, seen as someone just being scared or having some sort of disorder or something. Maybe it’s me being blinded by my own ideals and ambitions and thus I’m missing all of the subtext other people may be seeing.
Who knows? I certainly don’t.
Essentially this all boils down to ‘I felt peer pressure and I caved in under anxiety so I kept my mouth shut until a friend and some kick ass Finnish Japanese symphonic folk-death metal inspired me to finally say it and get it out into the open’.
But let it be known, on this blog, Magnus the Red is asexual, and no, he is not interested in sex. Your advances will be denied. Not in any harsh rebuke, obviously, but do not expect anything from him.
I am not opposed to romantic relationships, but the Crimson King is ace. Sorry to anyone who I have disappointed/they were hoping to bag him one day, but he is officially off the table.]
#peer pressure is an absolute bitch#i usually dont feel it but holy shit#being surrounded by so many people thirsting over magnus#i thought everyone would disassociate with me#but seeing the positivity#it really made my day#i was actually shaking as i wrote that#i was so scared#so expecting the acephobia to come out#but it didnt#so thank you#moonclaw speaks

Heyyy can you write a malec fic that takes place after Alec rescues Magnus from edom where the Clave have to thank Magnus for saving alicante because without him they would have all been screwed and how some of them look they are literally sucking lemons just to get through it (remember breakfast scene when Magnus was staying at the institute) and Alec is beside him and being the proudest fiancé to ever be. I have seriously been dyinggg to see this fic somewhere
That’s No Apology
Read on AO3
“Magnus, this is huge. For us, for Alicante, for downworlders. The Clave has never issued a formal thank you for anything good downworlders have done for them and they have asked for you to enter Alicante so they can do so,” Alec explained while Magnus sat on the couch, sipping out of his martini glass. Magnus lifted his pinky and swirled it around his liquor before sucking the small amount of liquid into his mouth. He stood up slowly, walking seductively towards Alec, snapping a glass into his husband’s hand.
“We’re on our at-home honeymoon, Alexander. There is no part of me that wants to think about the Clave when I should be thinking about kissing you…” Magnus sent an appreciative glance over Alec’s body, clad in only boxers, before resting his ringed hand on Alec’s chest. “And other things…” Magnus continued, leaning in to place his lips on Alec’s. Before he had the chance, Alec rolled his eyes, turning quickly to place his glass on the counter.
“You have to do this. You saved Alicante. None of us would be here right now if you didn’t leave me right after our marriage proposal to go to the depths of Edom,” Alec said. Magnus rolled his own eyes in return at the guilt trip Alec was throwing his direction. “You roll your eyes but you know it’s true, Magnus. Think of the step forward the Clave is taking right now. Think of what that means for us, for couples like us, for our future family,” Alec said, his voice more intense than Magnus had heard in a very long time. With a sigh, he rested his hands on his husbands shoulders.
“Just say when, darling. You know I’d do anything for you,” Magnus responded. At Alec’s long and slow kiss, he had figured he said the right thing.
Magnus took in his surroundings. He had only been in Alicante when demons were surging through a rift in the darkened sky and fire lit up the distance. He had never seen a place so beautiful. The air that filled his lungs felt like a glass of cold water after hours of thirst. The colors were vivid, like paintings he had seen in the most prestigious of art museums. The sunshine hit his skin and warmed his whole entire body like he had been cold his entire life. He felt Alec staring at him and shook his head in disbelief.
“I didn’t expect… this,” Magnus started, eyes widening at the birds flying just above the skyline. “Downworlders swapped stories of prison cells and hidden visits, but no one has ever described it like this. It’s… surreal, Alexander.” Magnus heard Alec sigh and contentedness seemed to surround both of them.
“When I was a child living in Alicante, I always wanted to get out. The world outside was a place where I wouldn’t feel so… trapped. Trapped in my own mind, not being able to live and love as I pleased…” Alec trailed off and only spoke again once Magnus squeezed their joined hands. “New York is everything to me. It’s where I found myself and where I found you. But Alicante looks better now that I’m who I was always supposed to be,” Alec finished with a sigh. Magnus nodded and took in the greens and blues of the surrounding forests and lakes.
“You want to come back,” Magnus stated. It wasn’t a question, but Alec answered anyways.
“Alicante is… was my home.” Alec turned toward Magnus and took his other hand. “The Clave may have let us in today, but I think they are a while away from letting me live here with my warlock husband. And I can live with that. Because my home is wherever you are, Magnus.” The sincerity in Alec’s voice had Magnus’ breath catching in his throat. Before he could speak, a bell chimed above them and they both jolted at the sound.
“Is that for us?” Magnus asked, a sudden nervousness taking over his usually calm disposition.
“That’s for us. You ready for your well deserved apology?” Alec asked, just a hint of a teasing tone in his voice. Magnus rolled his eyes and followed Alec into the white building Magnus could only think of as a castle.
They saw Consul Jia Penhallow first. Magnus remembered her from many eventful occasions and her presence had a twinge of fear running down his spine. It immediately dissipated when he saw Aline standing next to her. Her serious demeanor was broken by a small wave at him and a wink at Alec.
“Consul, Aline. We’re very glad to be here today. I’ve always wanted to show Magnus the beautiful sights Alicante has to offer,” Alec said with a threatening tone in his voice Magnus had not expected.
“Alec, thank you for taking the time away from your… honeymoon,” Jia spat. The words must’ve tasted sour on her lips, Magnus thought as he saw the look on her face. Aline rolled her eyes which perked Magnus up just a little. Jia turned towards Magnus and looked him up and down, none too subtly. “If you’d follow us, Magnus, the Clave wishes to speak with you privately,” Jia stated. Alec either sensed the panic in Magnus or felt his own because he put a hand on Jia’s arm, much to her dismay.
“Magnus and I will stay together in Alicante. He will not leave my sight,” Alec demanded. Jia’s eyes narrowed as she glared at Alec.
“Don’t you think your warlock can protect himself, Alec?” Jia asked, venom dripping from her tone.
“I think my husband can do much more than protect himself. He’s proven it time and time again, especially after he saved the people the Clave swore to protect,” Alec challenged, his own eyes narrowing back. Magnus placed a hand on the small of Alec’s back, a small appreciation he hoped Alec understood.
“I see. Then both of you can follow me,” Jia said sharply. She walked into a large room, tables lining both sides with shadowhunters seated at every seat. Magnus gulped audibly, catching the attention of the only other shadowhunter in the room he could stand.
“It’s okay, Magnus,” Aline whispered, running a soft hand on his bicep. “Many of these people wish to thank you. But there are some naysayers,” she warned. Magnus tensed, a motion that did not go unnoticed by Alec or Aline. “Helen is waiting by the door if you need to leave, Magnus. We’re on your side, okay? But things are going to be fine. You have Alec and that’s all you need, right?” Aline assured. Magnus nodded and took a seat next to Alec at the head of the table. An older man, faded runes covering his neck like Magnus hadn’t seen before, spoke first.
“Magnus Bane and Alexander Gideon Lightwood. High Warlock and Institute Head, married 2 weeks ago against the wishes of the Clave and here now expecting gratitude from us,” the man started. “I know many of us wanted you here. But many of us did not. We want you to tell us, Magnus, why we should show gratitude towards you?” Before Magnus could speak, Alec slammed his fist on the table.
“I will not tolerate this. I was willing to give you all a chance. A chance to thank the man who saved our home. A chance to believe you realized the sacrifice Magnus made to do so. But you don’t believe it, do you?” No one had time to answer before Alec was kicking out his chair and standing tall in front of the most powerful of his people. “Let me break it down for you, then, shall I? Magnus came into Alicante, a place warded by the most powerful warlocks we have in our pockets, without an invitation. He removed the wards to let himself in and put them back up tenfold to keep hundreds of demons from entering the mundane world. That’s one,” Alec said. There was a fire in his eyes that had Magnus’ hands tightening their grip on the table until his knuckles were white.
“Then, he obliterated dozens of demons before they could take any more lives, my sisters and mine included. Your daughter’s included, Consul.” Alec shot Jia a hateful glare and Magnus followed it, a hint of giddiness rushing through him at the paleness of Jia’s face. “That’s two. On top of those, he portalled into the worst Hell dimension we know of, where his kind is hated almost more than the Clave hates them, leaving his new fiancé and found family behind, to save people who have oppressed him his entire life!” His voice was rising now and Magnus sent out an invisible spark of magic to provide a sense of calm to Alec. Alec glanced over at him and nodded, immediately sensing Magnus’ power and seemingly appreciating the gesture.
“Magnus spent days in Edom. You know as well as I do that days in Edom feel like years. He spent that time not knowing if he would ever be able to see his family or friends again. I spent that time not knowing if I would ever be able to see the love of my life again,” Alec said, his voice quieting to a whisper as he remembered the dark time.
“Magnus and I came here under the pretense that the Clave had finally removed their heads from their asses and were willing to acknowledge the ultimate sacrifices he had made for my people. If that doesn’t happen in the next 10 seconds, him and I are leaving to continue our honeymoon in peace. Am I understood?” Magnus had never felt a silence quite like this one. Each second ticked by slowly, tension filling the air. Then, a man, younger than the first stood up.
“Magnus Bane, I thank you for your sacrifice on behalf of the Clave,” he said, holding up a hand in salute. A woman, a practical clone to Jia stood up next.
“Magnus, thank you for your sacrifices on behalf of the Clave,” she stated, bowing her head and saluting him as well. Magnus couldn’t stop his jaw from dropping open. He vaguely noticed Alec moving back beside him, a proud smile on his face as he watched each member of the Clave stand and thank Magnus for saving each and everyone one of them. At the end of the table, the first man who spoke stood up. He motioned for Jia to come closer and waited until she did so.
“You have an opening for Inquisitor, isn’t that right?” He said, his voice a bit more frail than Magnus had remembered. Jia nodded, glancing back and forth from the man to Magnus to Alec. “Mr. Lightwood would be a great asset to the Clave, Consul. I want him to be considered.” Jia’s mouth opened and closed in surprise and Magnus couldn’t help but stifle a laugh. He glanced at Alec whose eyes were wide and whose mouth was hanging open. Magnus realized the unsaid implications of the man’s words but before he could say anything, Alec spoke once more.
“With all due respect, I couldn’t, wouldn’t, leave my husband in New York. Where I go, Magnus goes, and vice versa,” Alec said simply. He moved closer to Magnus and took him by the hand. The Clave members around the room were still saluting, waiting for their next command.
“Magnus has shown great sacrifice and good intentions, Mr. Lightwood. You are both allowed in Alicante whenever you please. If Jia makes the correct decision, as I’m sure she will, there will be a place for your… husband, in Alicante as well,” the man said. Alec nodded slowly and glanced around the room once more. Magnus blushed, just a little, at the satisfied smile he had on his lips. As Alec went to lead him out, Magnus pulled his hand away and walked toward the man.
“Alexander will consider the position. He loves me, that much is true, but he loves Alicante. He loves what the Shadow World could be with people like him protecting it. So, thank you,” Magnus said softly, shaking the man’s hand. The man nodded before walking through another set of doors, the rest of the Clave members following behind him. Magnus turned toward his husband only to be enveloped in his embrace, the one place Magnus felt like he was home.
“I’m so proud of you, Magnus,” Alec whispered as he covered Magnus neck in kisses, his arms squeezing even tighter.
“Of me?!” Magnus exclaimed, pulling back only slightly to look Alec in his beautiful eyes. “You could be the next Inquisitor. This is huge! For you, for your family, our family, for the Shadow World. Alexander, I am so proud of you,” Magnus responded, cupping Alec’s face in his hands. As he stared into Alec’s eyes that were filled with pride and hope and love, Magnus knew that every sacrifice he had made was worth that feeling.

Talk to me about Magnus Bane 🙌🏻💜
Alright then. Let’s talk about Magnus Bane.
Let’s talk about Magnus as a child. As if suddenly discovering something about him is strange, different from all of the other children he’s friends with, different from his mother and father, isn’t scary enough on it’s own; but then his mother rejects him now because of this one thing which is entirely out of his control, even though he’s still the same person. He’s still the same son who loves her so much, and blames himself for her death as much as his father does. Imagine this tiny child so full of fear when his father comes after him that a small part of him doesn’t wonder, even then, that he deserves to die in return for his role in her death. But instinct kicks in and he lashes out - and now he is directly responsible for taking a life, but it isn’t his mother’s: it’s his fathers. In self-defense, perhaps, but becoming the monster his father swore he was in the end.
Imagine this young, terrified Magnus, living life on the streets. Afraid of hurting the people around him. Afraid of everything he is right down to his very soul. Imagine him being taken in by Silent Brothers, raised in isolation, and taught to control the parts of him that he loathes. Taught to accept them, and maybe even start to like them. Let’s talk about a boy who’s found by his true father. Someone with abilities like him. Someone who looks like him, right down to the eyes that mark him down as different, as an abomination, as unworthy of a happy existence. Someone who not only embraces him as a warlock, but as family - the very thing taken from him at such a young age, the thing he never imagined himself deserving of. And what wouldn’t you do for the love and acceptance of your family? Especially when that father nurtures the darkest parts of you, encouraging the power you worked to hide for so long, fanning the flames of how good it feels to test the limits and push the boundaries of everything he’s capable of. Everything he could be. The surge of power. The thirst for more... until it’s too much.
Imagine Magnus, realizing that this isn’t the acceptance he needs, even if it was the acceptance he craved for so long. Trying to break away from someone with so much power and control, so much influence over entire realms, because it isn’t right. What he’s doing here isn’t right, even if parts of it feel good. Even if unleashing his uncapped potential onto the world around him feels so goddamn cathartic sometimes. Imagine walking away from power, and love, and the only person who has ever accepted him for everything he is.
Let’s talk about how he starts a new life almost from scratch. Alone, wandering the world, but with so many lessons behind him in those years which will feel like the blink of an eye compared to the expanse of what will become his immortal lifespan. He finds people along the way who care for him, people who despise him, and everyone in between. He learns to pick apart those who are only using him and those who truly appreciate the help he offers -- and he offers a lot of help, because he has a lot of pain and damage to make up for. He isn’t sure he could ever help enough to balance out the hurt he’s caused, and the hurt he knows he’ll cause again, because no one is perfect and hurting others is inevitable despite our best intentions.
Let’s talk about how he finds love. He finds it again, and again, and again, and each time ends in loss. Sometimes that loss is death. Sometimes it’s a mortal love who is unwilling to spend the rest of their aging days beside someone eternally youthful. Sometimes it’s the loss of a fellow immortal who simply grows bored of him after a time, because he doesn’t seem to be worth anyone’s ‘forever’, no matter how many years that may be. Sometimes that loss is of his own doing, ending things before they can grow too serious, conditioned to the idea that anyone he grows attached to will only leave him in the end. But it’s always love, and always loss, and every time he convinces himself it’s the last time there’s always another who changes that resolve.
Let’s talk about how, despite the comings and goings of romantic partners and mortal acquaintances, he manages to create a family for himself along the way. It isn’t a constant lover, not a father or a mother or a husband or wife, but it’s the unwavering love and support of Catarina Loss, and Ragnor Fell. It’s the frequent presence the last century of Tessa Gray, and even more recently of Raphael Santiago. It’s surrounding himself with people he loves, who will love him back in return, if not unconditionally then at least under the conditions which matter the most. He’s created the family he missed for so long without even realizing it until they’re just a constant presence in his life, and he’s eternally grateful for them every step of the way.
Let’s talk about how he becomes the kind, caring, guidance for the Downworlders around him that he wished he had from the very start in his life. How his willingness to lead and to support earns him the title of the High Warlock of Brooklyn. How he takes that role so seriously, protecting those under his charge (and so many of those who are not) with every last ounce of strength he has as his disposal. Literally. Even when he swears off helping those who are not of his kind, he falls right back into those habits the moment he’s needed, because that’s just who he is. Magnus Bane isn’t the sort of person who can turn away from someone he’s capable of helping, not when they truly need it. That’s just not who he is.
And finally, let’s talk about Magnus Bane, the man who swears off Shadowhunters and mortal attachments, only to fall for Alexander Gideon Lightwood. To allow someone so young and naive and lost and afraid to take up residence in the very depths of his heart from the moment he meets him. To overlook everything about him that screams “NO” from the lessons Magnus swears he learned, and give him a chance. A chance that will change his life forever. A chance that will earn him that love, that true, everlasting, unwavering love that he thinks he will never have. The sort of person who, after a few bumps in the road, will stick with him for however long their ‘forever’ together may be. Who will grace him with marriage, and children, and a family he never imagined himself capable of, or deserving of. The man who will give him everything he ever wanted but never dared to imagine possible.
Let’s talk about Magnus Bane.

I think you may have sweltered this but I didn't find it when I did a search. Do you have anything to say on some of the loyalist primarch flaws and how they balance/balanced eachother out?
I don’t think I’ve mentioned it. All of the Primarchs are flawed in their own way, except for Vulkan because he is a massive bro. Sure he went insane, but that’s not his fault that Konrad Curze tortured him and he was a functional immortal.
Lion El’Jonson was arrogant even for a Primarch, and his inability to understand people left him vulnerable to intrigue and isolation. Jonson’s arrogance meant that he felt he wasn’t really accountable to others, hence why he could break his promise to Guilliman not to engage in an orbital bombardment. This same idea is the reason why so many find him suspicious and doubt his loyalty, even when he states that loyalty is its own reward and he doesn’t need to be recognized for the deed. However, this loyalty does ground him, as we see when he fights Curze.
Jaghatai Khan also had much of this isolation, and this made it hard to work with the Scars in a coalition environment. His own pride in himself meant that he never bothered to take the effort to work with others, insisting instead that others would have to make the first move. As such, no one knew what was going on inside his head. What tempered him was his love of Chogoris and his people and his marked dislike of dishonesty. While the Big E was fairly guilty of lying to his kids multiple times, Chaos was much worse. His commitment to freedom was both a flaw and a boon. It made it hard for him and his legion to fit in to the greater Imperium or in the eventual transition to peacetime, but he wasn’t going to stand for Mortarion’s plan to corral all psykers as we see in his epic takedown of the Plague Lord on Prospero.
Leman Russ’s flaws are pretty self-evident. Brash and abrasive, he started fights with his fellow Primarchs all the time. His unquestioning sense of loyalty meant that the Emperor used him for the unsavory jobs, and as he later notes, it won him few friends and left him susceptible to Horus’s manipulation that cost the Emperor the Thousand Sons. Now, Russ’s mistrust of psykers definitely played into this, and that’s on him, but he’s tempered himself now, both in transforming the Space Wolves and in focusing more upon recklessness with psykers, not with the actual psychic powers themselves, ridding himself of his bigotry somewhat.
Rogal Dorn is my main man, but even he is quite flawed. His biggest flaw is the whole “torture himself to enlightenment with the pain glove,” and that was reflected in the Iron Cage incident, where his desire for redemption to him meant suffering through immense pain, but ended up pointlessly crippling the Imperial Fists. This is completely reckless, as a general, he had a duty to his subordinates, and while sure, Perturabo needed to be brought to justice, I can’t really justify that Iron Cage incident as anything other than an attempt to purge himself of his perceived failure. Also, his honesty is great for defense but makes for terrible diplomacy, and as a general, diplomacy is a key part of his portfolio. What grounded him was his recognition of his own failings, and his ironclad desire to help the Imperium.
Sanguinius’s problem was DON’T YOU TALK SHIT ABOUT MY FABULOUS FUCKING HAWK BOY! his martyr complex, as we see at Signus Prime, where he attempted to sacrifice himself to Chaos to cure his Blood Angels of the Red Thirst, which as we see with Magnus and the Flesh-Change, a Chaotic bargain never gives you a permanent solution. While demanding much of yourself is noble, sacrifice sometimes is a waste; you have to make sure that your loss is offset by what you seek to gain. While Sanguinius was aware of visions of his own death, he never faltered. That is in itself a virtue, to not fear death, but he should strive His compassion was both a virtue and a flaw, as few people would try to redeem Konrad Curze and Horus himself. Unfortunately, that compassion and his drive to die for the glory of the Imperium got him killed, instead of waiting for Dorn or his father.
Ferrus Manus was brutal and too focused on purging himself of weakness. This meant that Ferrus was often brutal on his conquests and when Fulgrim attempted to convert him to the side of Chaos, Ferrus was so driven to prove that he wasn’t so weak as to be corrupted that he took unnecessary risks. His logic was baffling: since if Fulgrim believed he could tempt him, his brothers and the Emperor would suspect him, forgetting that Fulgrim was…I dunno, his best friend and so that friendship might have been a factor, or that in refusing, Ferrus proved his loyalty to Mankind. This ideology was so destructive that he sought out Fulgrim to ‘atone’ despite being surrounded, and it led to his death.
Roboute Guilliman is convinced of his own rightness that he can’t see where he makes mistakes. He almost tore the Imperium in half after the fall of the Emperor with the Codex Astartes, and he was so convinced that Terra had fallen that rather than investigate, he created Imperium Secundus. His self-righteousness can lead to sunk cost fallacy or not changing his plans if his initial ideas are not working (looking at you Unnumbered Sons), as well as people who don’t conform to his ideas being shunned out of the states he builds. His rigidity can cause problems both in diplomacy and in war. What tempers him is that he truly does care for the states he crafts and he wants to do right by them.
Corvus Corax’s flaws, like others, are isolation, but also in an inability to communicate. This meant that when Corvus was put up against a wall against the charismatic Horus, he couldn’t stand his ground, and thus a lot of Raven Guard suffered as a result. Corax also wasn’t on his guard with regard to the Alpha Legion, and thus his plan to save his legion was sabotaged, and this brought him into a deep depression. His isolation left him to suffer alone until he went into the Eye of Terror, and deprive the Imperium of a significant asset. His infiltration tactics were incredibly useful, and his drive against tyranny could have arrested the Imperium’s slow decline, but alas, he was unable to pull himself from the brink by himself. What tempered him though, was his commitment to freedom and individual dignity.
As you can see, all of these Primarch had their flaws, but their grounding kept them from slipping. Corvus never embraced his anti-tyranny zeal to become Konrad Curze, The Lion never succumbed to resentment over being snubbed the way Perturabo did, and Ferrus’s drive for perfection didn’t lead to excessive vanity like Fulgrim. They definitely made mistakes both by themselves and to each other, but ultimately, they stood up for Mankind rather than falling into the traps of pride and ego that Chaos laid for them. Even Magnus, whose fall was so tragic and had the best of intentions for his father and the Imperium, had succumbed to rash pride in believing that he could control Chaos and that his superior intellect rendered him immune to the problems of the Warp and the allure of the Ruinious Powers.
The Emperor Protects, Anon.

& WHO ARE YOU?
Name: Erik “Magnus” Lehnsherr Title: Baron [ codename: Magneto ] Age:55
& WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?
The mutant now known as Magneto was born Max Eisenhardt to a poor Jewish family. His is a story of loss, much like it was on Earth-616. Max and his family were not able to outrun the Nazis and were shot on sight, but it was then that his powers manifested and he was able to survive. He was young, alone, without a family and broken, and eventually he was captured and taken to a concentration camp where he was reunited with Magda ( a girl he knew from his home village and whom he cared for very much ).
Max and Magda were able to escape the camp and together they started a new life. They both had lost their families and only had each other. Eventually they married and had children-- first a girl, Anya, and a few years later the twins. Max made friends and contacts who helped him change his name to Erik Magnus Lehnsherr, officially cutting ties with his past so he and Magda could start over. For the most part, Max Erik was able to keep his powers under control and while they didn’t live an extravagant life, they lived a good one.
That was, until a mutant by the name of Apocalypse entered the picture. He and his Horseman conquered and took over many kingdoms, and Erik wasn’t able to ignore the parallels between Apocalypse’s thirst for control over the mutants, and what he had experienced as a boy. Erik and his family weren’t able to run in time, and they were at the mercy of Apocalypse like so many others.
Their good life had been hijacked, and mutant kind was suffering. For the second time in his life, Erik was uprooting and fleeing for his life, doing his best keep his family safe. The five of them took off and attempted to escape the domain like so many others had, but it was risky.
Their escape attempt didn’t go unnoticed, unfortunately. Apocalypse had eyes everywhere, and with three young children it was difficult for them to move as quickly as they wanted. Eventually they were caught by some of the Baron’s minions-- and they weren’t allowed to let Erik and his family stay alive if they didn’t wish to stay in the domain. Magda and Anya were killed before Erik could do much of anything, and it was then that his powers manifested yet again. Every one of Apocalypse’s men ended up dead at Erik’s hand, and he was left alone with two small children. Quickly he buried his wife and his first child, fearing that if he lingered too long he would get caught again, and left without letting himself mourn. It was a miracle-- but he made it out of the domain with Wanda and Pietro.
His life from then on was never-ending: Erik was left with raising the twins on his own, and now he had the world at his fingertips. After losing so much and watching his people suffer at the hands of people in power, he knew he couldn’t sit by and watch it continue. The domain he escaped to was vulnerable, and Erik was waiting for the right time to strike, learning about his powers and gaining the control he needed. Along the way he met a woman by the name of Suzanna Dane. She was married, but that didn’t matter to him. They had a brief affair and then parted. Erik was on his own again, unaware at the time that Suzanna was pregnant with his child.
Magneto was born around this time-- the powerful mutant who controlled metal became well known around the domain, and he was followed by a relatively small group of mutants who had also been able to escape Apocalypse’s rule. Humans were weak-- easily pushed aside and easily taken down. And when the time was right Magneto made his move and took over the domain, making himself Baron and kicking out the remaining humans. This was a place for mutants-- a refuge for his people that they so desperately needed. He made it known that he was a force to be reckoned with, and has been protecting everyone under his rule ever since. There is a Human Resistance Movement, but Erik has it in check. At the moment, his focus is on Apocalypse’s domain where so much of his species still remains trapped.
For years now, Erik and his family have lived in comfort. Lorna, the child he had with Suzanna, was sent to live with him when she was just a baby, and it has made him quite happy to be surrounded by family. While he is aware of how straining it can be to feel trapped ( he feels that discomfort himself ) he knows that they are safer here than anywhere else. Wanda and Pietro and Lorna have grown up and made him proud, and now there is even an alliance between his people and the Inhumans. After a lifetime of struggle, this is paradise. But there is always room for more.
& WHERE DO YOU RESIDE?
Erik now lives in the Monarchy of M, a domain that he took control of after escaping Apocalypse. He took what was rightfully his and wishes to take more in the future, but for now this domain will do.
& WHY DO YOU RISE?
Lorna Dane-Magnus is his youngest daughter, and while it remains unsaid, she is his favorite. The affair he had with her mother was not the most ethical thing he has done in his lifetime, but he had cared for her during the time they shared together. A child as a result was unexpected, but he showed no hesitation in taking Lorna in when the time came. She and him are more alike than any of his other children, down to their mutant abilities, and it has made him very happy to have her as family. Bastard child or not, Erik loves her all the same and is very proud of her. Wanda Magnus is his older daughter, and the twin of Pietro. After escaping with her and her brother when they were very young, it was up to him to raise them both. Things might not have been good at times, but he thinks he did an alright job. His relationship with Wanda is good, and he is proud of how she’s grown. She represents the family and the domain well. Pietro Magnus is his only son and the twin of Wanda. Out of all his children, Erik’s relationship with Pietro is the most strained. The two of them are very different people in one way and strikingly similar in others, both of which provide opportunity for being rubbed the wrong way. Erik does love his son, even when he gets on his nerves, and is happy that his relationship with Crystalia has gone as well as it has. William and Thomas Magnus are his grandsons and are the youngest members of the family ( until Crystalia’s baby is born ). They are young and at times troublesome, but they are family and Erik has enjoyed watching them grow. Wanda and the Vision are raising them well. Crystalia Amaquelin and him have an interesting relationship. She isn’t very happy that Erik bought her for his son, and rightfully so. While they butt heads at times, Erik does respect her and hopes nothing but the best for her and her child ( and the peace between their two peoples is a nice bonus too ). Charles Xavier is a mutant that lives in Apocalypse’s domain. They have never met, but Erik is intrigued by him. Charles’ efforts to help mutants escape Apocalypse have been rumored, and Erik respects that. Perhaps someday he will be in a place to help the telepath get the job done once and for all.
& WHEN DID YOU SEE THE LIGHT?
[ Erik is completely unaware of Doom’s influence. He is happier here than he ever was on Earth 616, so he has no reason or desire to change things back. ]
& HOW HAVE YOU FARED?
Apart from the eight years of aging, Erik looks no different than his 616 counterpart-- his hair is turning more grey than silver now, but he still bears his tattooed number from his time in the camps along his forearm. He smiles a bit more, so maybe he has a few more wrinkles as a result, but that’s not the worst thing in the world.
