THE FUTURE (PART TWO)
Pairing: Emmett (A Quiet Place) x Original Female Character
Warning: Age Gap, Forced Procreation, Past Sexual Abuse, Angst
Words: 2,677
Emmett brooded alone in his rustic cabin, his weathered face contorted in a scowl. Evelyn's plea weighed heavily on his mind, an oppressive burden dragging him into the depths of frustration. "Why should I bring a child into this forsaken world?" he muttered to himself, the words escaping his lips as a hushed whisper. It wasn't just the lurking danger beyond their sanctuary that deterred him; it was the guilt that haunted him from his past.
As if on cue, Evelyn entered the room, her wide eyes searching for Emmett's gaze. She understood his mood without the need for words, instinctively sensing the turmoil within him. "Have you made a decision?" she asked, eager to know if Emmett was prepared to be paired with Caitlyn for the program.
"Yes, Evelyn, and the answer is no," Emmett replied firmly, causing Evelyn's eyebrows to furrow in concern. "I understand," she said, taking a seat beside him, her presence a comforting balm. She watched as he shook his head, her empathy flowing freely.
"Do you truly understand?" Emmett questioned, a flicker of anger igniting in his eyes. "Bringing a child into this world... It's a perilous gamble. I lost my family once, and I cannot bear the thought of losing another. Pretending to go along with the program while secretly abstaining will only result in Caitlyn being paired with someone else after months or even a year of fruitless attempts." Emmett's words were laced with painful truth, and Evelyn knew he had thoroughly considered this choice.
Evelyn's expression softened, and her hands reached out to gently touch his arm. "That's why I understand, Emmett. I am grateful that I am too old to participate in this program. But, despite the odds, we have a chance to create something beautiful here."
Emmett met her gaze, realizing the depth of her understanding and compassion. "I will inform the Council of your decision," Evelyn finally said, leaving Emmett to his solitude, knowing he desired it.
Meanwhile...
Caitlyn stood alone on the edge of the island, her heart heavy with the weight of her resolve. She had made her choice. Like Emmett, she couldn't fathom bringing a child into this harsh and dangerous world. It seemed a futile endeavor, only amplifying the vulnerability of the human race. And so, she had decided to leave.
With determination in her eyes, Caitlyn hastily scribbled a note explaining her intentions. "I cannot remain here," she wrote, the words stark against the paper. With a sigh, she pinned the note to a prominent post, aware it would be discovered soon enough.
As luck would have it, Evelyn stumbled upon the note during her leisurely stroll back from Emmett's cottage. She usually took the scenic route, collecting naturally growing food along the way. Her eyes widened as she read the words, her heart pounding in her chest. "Dear God!" Evelyn cursed, hastening her return to Emmett's cottage.
"Emmett!" she called out upon approaching, her voice echoing through the lush landscape. "You won't believe what I found!" Emmett came running towards her, rifle in hand, fearing the worst.
Startled, Emmett's rugged face etched with concern. "What is it, Evelyn?" he asked, worry creeping into his voice.
Evelyn caught up to him, the wind whipping her hair around her face. "It's Caitlyn," she said breathlessly, thrusting the note into his hands. "She's gone."
Emmett's eyes narrowed as he scanned the note, the words sinking like stones in his chest. "I'm not surprised," he muttered, a mix of anger and worry brewing beneath his gruff exterior.
"Nor am I, but I must find her, Emmett. The boys need her, and she has already endured so much," Evelyn pleaded. However, Emmett shook his head, his mind made up.
"No, I will go after her. You are needed here," Emmett declared, his voice a solemn whisper. With a determined glint in his piercing blue eyes, Emmett embarked on his perilous mission to find Caitlyn and bring her back, regardless of the cost.
***
Meanwhile, Caitlyn had already found herself on the mainland, her footsteps silent against the cracked pavement. She had always been a daring adventurer, but this was an entirely new level of peril.
Her heart pounded in her chest as she cautiously navigated the desolate streets. Her deafness was both a blessing and a curse in this soundless world plagued by creatures drawn to noise. Caitlyn couldn't afford even the slightest sound. She had witnessed firsthand the horrors these creatures were capable of, and those memories haunted her dreams.
As she walked, Caitlyn's thoughts drifted to Emmett and Evelyn, both of whom she considered dear friends. They had always been there for her, a steadfast pillar of support. Emmet, in particular, was a mentor and friend to her, even if he was twice her age and had a tendency to be grumpier than a bear with a toothache.
It was for the better this way. Caitlyn knew that Evelyn and Emmett would look after the boys for her, and she knew that she had made the right decision, namely to leave. She couldnât even imagine the heartache of having a family would bring to her in this unkind world and forced procreation with someone she despised was even worse. It was Caitlynâs worst nightmare. Much worse than the creatures themselves.
***
Meanwhile, Emmett trudged onward, his face etched with determination and worry. He had always been a protector, but this felt different. It felt... personal.
Days passed, but Emmett never faltered, following Caitlyn's inadvertent breadcrumbs. He had a hunch that she was heading to the abandoned factory in the heart of the town. With his survival instincts guiding him, he navigated the dangerous path, avoiding the roaming creatures that lurked in the shadows.
As he approached the centre of the dilapidated worker's township, the silence grew deafening, and fear hung heavy in the air. The creatures ruled this place, and one wrong move could mean certain death.
Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Emmett spotted Caitlyn in the distance. She stood frozen amidst the ruins of a forgotten city. Relief washed over him like a cool wave, but he knew better than to rush to her side. He had to be patient, cautious - the silent hero.
Emmett approached Caitlyn with utmost care, his eyes never straying from the lurking creatures. Caitlyn turned towards him, her eyes widening in surprise, her hands trembling slightly. She had hoped someone would come for her, but seeing Emmett now, a mix of emotions flooded her.
"I didn't expect you to come," Caitlyn signed softly, her fingers uncertainly grasping at the air.
Emmett offered her a small, understanding smile. âWe're friends, remember?" he signed, a confession he had never made before. In his world, he believed he had no friends.
Caitlyn nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. Never had she valued friendship more than in that moment.
âCome, I know where it is safe,â Emmett motioned for Caitlyn to follow him. She nodded, knowing he had a plan to keep her alive.
From the moment she met Emmett, she had been captivated by his resourcefulness and resilience. He understood the creatures' nature, communicating through sign language that he had learned from Regan.
As they walked side by side, silence enveloped them. Each step was cautious, every breath held in anticipation. In their world, noise was the enemy.
Finally, they reached the edge of the dense forest, where Emmett had established a hidden sanctuary during one of his supply runs.
Emmett led Caitlyn to a small cottage, but before they could reach safety, a sudden crack of a branch shattered the silence. Fear gripped Emmett's chest, his heart skipping a beat.
âHide!â he gestured frantically, urging Caitlyn to find shelter. He pulled her towards safety as the creatures charged through the vegetation, their terrifying presence shaking the very foundations of their being.
"Quiet," Emmett mouthed, his hands steady. Caitlyn held her breath, her wide-eyed gaze fixed on the creatures as they passed, their instincts focused on the noise that had momentarily disturbed their stillness.
Slowly, agonizingly slowly, the creatures moved on, unaware of Emmett and Caitlyn's presence. Caitlyn released a shaky breath, her body trembling with fear. Emmett reassured her with a pat on the shoulder, relief evident in his eyes.
***
Eventually, Emmett and Caitlyn entered the cottage. Every rustle of leaves, every whisper of wind made Emmett's heart race, fearing the return of the nightmarish creatures.
The events of the past few days had left Caitlyn physically and emotionally drained. She needed rest before continuing her journey, and Emmett understood that.
For hours, they sat on the cold ground, Caitlyn lost in fragmented memories. Fear, pursuit, and the haunting faces of the creatures consumed her thoughts. But amidst the chaos, there was a glimmer of hope - Emmett, her beacon of strength in this relentless nightmare.
âYou have two choices now, Caitlyn," Emmett signed, guiding her face towards his.
âWe can venture to the factory together, leaving the safety of the island behind for good, or we can return to the island where it's secure," Emmett signed, allowing her the space to process the overwhelming events and emotions.
âI cannot return to the island, Emmett!" Caitlyn signed, as a gentle rustle of leaves outside caught his attention. He turned to face the sound, his heart quickening once more.
âYes, you can. I'll move in with you, and together, we can pretend to comply with the authorities' quest to repopulate the planet," Emmett joked, eliciting a smile from Caitlyn, though she shook her head.
Caitlyn scrutinized his countenance, searching for even the slightest trace of deception, yet all she discovered was an unwavering honesty etched into every crease. Reluctantly, she replied, "And what reason do I have to place my trust in you?"
Emmett's hand quivered imperceptibly as he clenched his fists, his words intermingling with the distant roar of creatures. "Because I am present here and now, am I not? Despite everything, I have morals that prevent me from allowing the Council to coerce you into something you do not believe in," he whispered and expressed through his hands to the best of his abilities.
A heavy silence descended upon them as Caitlyn contemplated Emmett's proposition. She weighed the risks, the potential for security, and the immense responsibility of bringing another life into this daunting world.
Breaking the stillness, Caitlyn signed, "If we feign our alliance, what will happen if we are discovered? The consequences could be catastrophic."
Emmett nodded, fully comprehending the gravity of her concerns. "It will be risky, yes, but perhaps my willingness to partake in this charade will grant you some respite, at least until we can find a more viable solution."
A faint smile curved Caitlyn's lips, her hands conveying both apprehension and hope. In the eerie hush of their surroundings, Emmett's offer lingered in the air, awaiting Caitlyn's decision. The weight of their future bore down upon them, threatening to shatter their fragile aspirations.
Caitlyn's hands moved deliberately, contemplating her response. With each measured gesture, her decision began to take shape. Finally, she signed, "I will accompany you back. For now."
Relief washed over Emmett's face, though it was tinged with caution. He knew their journey to the island would be arduous, and their trials far from over. Yet, together, perhaps, Caitlyn stood a fighting chance.

Sketched this while watching the new season because he's on my mind 24/7 and it's a problem.
Fanart of @map-of-obsessions ' fic because I couldn't stop thinking about Johnny finally finding someone who cares about him.
(please read it)
I think when Johnny's feeling overwhelmed he'd have difficulty getting the words out too and he'd find it easier to communicate in other ways while he calms down (sign language, tapping in response to things, facial expressions ect).

Penny Valley Profile: Evelyn Stanier
Hi all, just as a quick heads-up, I'll be taking some historical liberties with withdrawal dates, build dates and service careers in these, so sorry rivet-counters. Also, sorry for the shitty artwork, I did it in school :P
Pre-Preservation
Evelyn is a London, Midland and Scottish Railway 8F locomotive built in 1942. Upon her completion, she was immediately requisitioned for use by the Royal Engineers in hauling trains in North Africa. When returned in 1945, she was repainted and allocated to Barrow Hill depot where she'd serve diligently until her withdrawal in 1964.
Preservation
In 1970, Mr. Luke and Mr. Hughes found Evelyn rusting away in a siding near Newton Abbot, where she had supposedly been forgotten about. She was quickly snapped up by the pair and hauled by road to Rattery Engine Works. There, they stripped her down to nuts and bolts and reassembled her from the ground up, refurbishing what they could and replacing what they couldn't. When she returned to traffic in 1976, she was very eager to work. During her trials though, it was found that she was near-sighted to the point it was a miracle she hadn't caused a major accident. Rattery works quickly fabricated a pair of glasses for her use and she's been a loyal worker ever since.
Personality/Characteristics
Evelyn, despite her size and strength, is a very shy engine. She struggles with basic interactions with anyone she doesn't know, often mulls on awkward moments and sometimes even sweats during conversations. The one remedy to this is Luna. Her and Luna are quite possibly the closest friends on the line, with some speculating it could be even more. Luna's feistiness and stubbornness balances out with Evelyn's shyness and generally being something of a doormat. Even though she lets people walk all over her, she tries her best to be a good friend to Luna and the others.
Closing
All in all, Evelyn is an engine that works best when not in the spotlight, preferring (and sometimes needing) to take a backseat role to do a good job.
Thank you all for reading and I hope to see you in the next one.
Cheerio!

Film Friday: A Quiet Place
This week's movie is another favorite of mine, the 2018 horror/thriller about a family eking out a living in the shadow of an apocalypse where alien invaders hunting by sound have functionally made the Earth their hunting grounds. It's a movie that is frequently spoken of in terms of the "gotta be quiet"-gimmick and the logic of its worldbuilding, but I feel like considerably less attention has been paid to the story and the characters, and that really is a shame. I hope to remedy this in whatever small way I can. As usual, here be spoilers. If you care about the review part this movie is an absolute stone-cold banger and everyone should watch it. The exact reasons why I think this follow below the cut.
Lee and Evelyn Abbot are managing the post-apocalypse just about as good as one can expect. This despite the grief from losing their youngest, Beau, to the kind of tragedy that strikes unexpectably yet inevitably. The family's two older children, Reagan, who is deaf, and the nervous Marcus struggle with grief and the constant pressure of having to live a life in silent mode. Meanwhile, Lee and Evelyn are, perhaps unsurprisingly, mostly concerned with preparations for Evelyn's pregnancy to come to term, since completing a birth and nursing a child through its early days without producing much sound is a challenge indeed.
A Quiet Place builds a compelling day-to-day setting, showing the various measures the Abbots have taken to keep themselves silent and safe. Lee in particular have been tracking the local alien hunter population as he can without endangering himself or his family, and he keeps a keen ear on the radio waves, just in case his family aren't the only one who made it.
The peril in A Quiet Place is interesting to me because while part of it is the quiet the Abbots have to live under on pain of death, it is not the only thing ratcheting up the tension. A Quiet Place knows that the way things go wrong in situations like these aren't big and showy, it is disaster building up by inches, rounding errors in otherwise perfectly serviceable plans adding up no matter how careful you are. You're only human, and to err is so incredibly, incredibly human. The entire movie serves, from a tension perspective, to set up the final sequence, where enough things that were planned for go just wrong enough to land our heroes in hot water. It's not a grand disaster, it's not a new, more perceptive monster, it's just the right things happening at precisely the wrong time. Yeah, there are coincidences, some diabloi ex machina to complicate things, but the main thrust of the story isn't that these specific things would go wrong, but that eventually, enough wrong things would happen at once.
Before I go on to talk about the emotional core of the film, I should speak (not so) briefly on how language is used in the film. Seeing as Reagan was deaf also before the apocalypse, the Abbots are all proficient in ASL, which needless to say comes in handy in the "make noticeable sound outside and you're dead"-post apocalypse. However, what's subtly tragic is that the Abbots, sans Reagan, still have their most emotional talks in spoken English. While they all speak ASL, talking about their emotions, fears and hope all happen in spoken English, either in quarters so close that whispering is sufficient, or in the proximity of natural sources of noise, such as a waterfall.
This isn't done with any ill will towards Reagan, she isn't present for these conversations so it's not like they speak to exclude her, so it's more emblematic of how the family, particularly Lee, doesn't connect emotionally with his daughter on the same level as the rest of his family. This is, granted, a problem with many sources, as they both feel shame for not preventing the tragedy with Beau, the aforementioned language split, and there's probably some gender business in there too.
This isn't to say Lee doesn't love his daughter, but it seems like he is bad at expressing it. His repeated attempts at making a functioning hearing aid for her can be read as an attempt to bridge the gap. Similarly, I suspect that taking Marcus to the excursion to the waterfall and not Reagan is an attempt to "save" that trip with Reagan for the time when he has managed to construct a hearing aid good enough to allow her to hear him. Now, while I think this is an admirable instinct from Lee and that all of this comes from a place of love, it's also undeniably Lee's biggest character flaw. As it so happens, this flaw is also an integral part of the scene that takes this movie from Good to Great, namely Lee's last stand.
This scene starts near the tail end of a harrowing chase. Marcus and Reagan have found (temporary) safety from the monsters in a truck at the top of the hill. The Monsters are close, and even if Reagan were to disengage the handbrake and let the truck roll down the hill to the Abbot Farm proper, they would be out of the frying pan, into the fire. Enter Lee. He tries to fight the monster that threatens his children but is, put plainly, bodied. There isn't anything he can do for his children, he has failed them. Except, that's not entirely true.
Lee makes eye contact with Reagan, and, with large and intentional signs, signs to her what he should have told her before, what he should have told her every day in a million ways, in all the ways Reagan could understand it. "I love you. I have always loved you." With his final message to his daughter delivered, Lee Abbot does the last thing he'll ever do, the only thing he can do. He screams. A furious, terrified primal scream that has been brewing deep in his chest since the day Beau died, making DAMN sure that every monster within hearing range comes for him and him only.
The movie doesn't end on that, as there is some more business with Reagan finding out that feedback from her hearing aid is uncomfortable enough for the monsters for them to drop their guard long enough for Evelyn to blow it to smithereens, but the emotional climax of the story has passed. The storm has been weathered, and actor/director John Krasinski sends us home with a triumph and a hope for the future. It's perhaps a little cheesy, but after a tense, emotionally draining experience like the movie has been up to that point, it is a great coda to see Emily Blunt kick some ass with a shotgun.
A Quiet Place is one of those movies that I enjoyed upon first viewing for the sheer captive atmosphere of it, and while my esteem for it have only grown through the years, there's no denying the viewing experience is spectacular. The sound mixing is made with a focus on quiet and ambient sound, yes, but it also does a good job of filling the soundscape and make the silence feel tangible. Seeing this movie in a theater was one of my favorite movie going experiences, if nothing else for the collective sigh of relief once the credits rolled. I can't be sure in retrospect, but I think I didn't even hear people eating popcorn when the movie got going, it truly was captivating. I recommend A Quiet Place no matter where you get the chance to see it, but some sort of home theater setup (or a cinema if you happen to live close to one that shows anything but the current blockbusters) is surely the ideal way to watch this particular flick.
#film friday#a quiet place#horror film#post apocalyptic#This is another one where I feel like I'm leaving a ton of stuff out#Like all but one of Emily Blunt's cool parts#the sequence with the birth and subsequent prolonged monster escape are masterfully tense#and like 90% of it is Blunt acting her entire ass off#but there's just no escaping the gravity well of that final scene with Lee#It's beautiful and tragic and the acting is so good both from Krasinski and Simmonds#it's one of those scenes that work as a thesis statement for the movie all on its own#and it recontextualizes a lot of it for me

The Future (Intro)
Pairing: Emmett (AQP2) x Female OC
Warnings: Post-Apocalyptic, Post-Trauma, Arranged Marriage, Forced Impregnation
Notes: Alright, you asked for this and I said I would do it! But there is a twist! I am writing my first OC story, so please be kind. I also stole some pictures from Fear the Walking Dead for my character introduction. It seemed fitting enough...
Introduction/Characters:
Caitlin (Original Character & Main Protagonist): Caitlin is 25 years old and single. She is a nurse on the island which sometimes proves difficult for her as, just like Regan, she is deaf. Caitlin suffered trauma and abuse after having been captured by rebels on the mainland and then was rescued by Emmett who took her to the island. Caitlin enjoys drawing, reading, and gardening.
Karl (Original Character): Karl is ten years old and Caitlinâs adoptive son. Their backstory is explained below. Karl is also deaf.
Max (Original Character): Max is eights years and also Catlinâs adoptive son. He is Karlâs younger biological brother.
Emmett (Main Protagonist): We all know Emmett of course. Emmett is 45 years old and leads the task force to the mainland, to which he travels occasionally to source food and seek out survivors. Over the years, Emmett has learned sign-language for Reganâs sake. Emmett is Eloiseâs godfather and lives on his own with his dog Scout, in a small cabin, away from the main village on the island. He likes to keep to himself and draw, but often gets forced to socialise with the group.
Regan: We also all know Regan. Regan is now in her early twenties and has a daughter called Eloise.
Eloise (Original Character): Eloise is Reganâs three-year-old daughter.
George (Original Character): George is Reganâs husband.
Evelyn: We all know Evelyn of course. Evelyn is Reganâs mother and Emmettâs closest friend. Evelyn is one of the elected five council members and, unlike Emmett, she is very active in the community.
Jordyn (Original Character): Jordyn is 30 years old and single. Jordyn is interested in Caitlin but has a troubled past. Until one year ago, he lived on the mainland with a rebel group but, due to a dispute with the other men, he took shelter on the island. Emmett and some of the others are keeping a close eye on him and some other young men, including Evelynâs son, whom he is trying to recruit for an uprising against the authorities.
Background
After years of living on the island, a community had finally been formed and it was this sense of community which gave everyone hope following the invasion.
Other communities like this were soon discovered elsewhere, mostly scattered across different islands off the shores of America and these communities eventually began to form a government again, named the âNew Government of the Island Statesâ (NGIS).
Telecommunication was slowly restored amongst these communities and, after implementing successful means of basic communication, five representatives from each island community were elected to form a local council. The local council for each island was then tasked to implement any new laws and regulations proposed within their sector and, so that none of the communities would create havoc for themselves or others, any new laws and regulations were prepared and passed collectively by the Senate of the NGIS. All five council members were also members of such Senate and, together, at least seventy percent of all 35 Senate members had to vote in favour of any new law or regulation before its implementation across the member islands.
It was called democracy and gave rise to many good ideas. After five years of chaos, criminals and murderers were now finally being brought to justice again and there was now also the option of legal marriage and companionship.
The few children that had survived the invasion were now being schooled and everyone was given food as well as employment.
A task force had also been established on each island, requiring at least twenty participants whom were mostly volunteers to, occasionally, travel to the mainland in order to look for survivors and gather supplies. The task force was also charged with killing the aliens which, over the past five years, had destroyed this earth and killed over ninety-nine percent of the population.
But, the fact that ninety-nine percent of the population had died following the invasion also gave rise to a new law which had been voted in favour of at the rate of just seventy-one percent. It was a law that had been frowned upon by many and was called the âLaw of Procreationâ.
Under the Law of Procreation, every female above the age of twenty and under the age of thirty-five had to be bound to a domestic relationship and produce at least two children if at all physically possible.
Birth control was made illegal for women who fall within this age bracket and if a woman had not found a partner within ninety days of this law having been enacted or within ninety days of turning twenty (whichever is the later), then a partner was to be assigned to her by council.
This, unfortunately, was the case for at least three single women on the Seaside Island, one of whom was Caitlin.
Caitlin was a 25-year-old nurse who had arrived at the island three years ago with a child named Max and a child named Karl. Both children were still young, eight and ten respectively and just like Caitlin herself, Karl could neither hear nor speak. He was deaf and, since he was just like her, this is why Caitlin had cared for him all this time.
On the day of the invasion, Caitlin was babysitting the two boys which was something she had done for several years beforehand. Because she knew sign-language, the siblingsâ parents had employed her as a daytime carer for them after they decided that boys should both be home schooled and, with that in mind, Caitlin became a qualified aid to them both.
Then, when the aliens took over, it was Caitlin who saved the boysâ life and although she started looking for their parents, they could never be found. They had probably been taken by the creatures and, with that in mind, Caitlin and the two siblings took shelter in a nearby barn before making their way to the island.
Just as many others, Max heard the signal and told Caitlin about it which is when they made their way to the nearest dock. But, just as they had arrived at the dock to board a small ship to Seaside Island, the unthinkable happened.
Caitlin was taken by a group of men while Max and Karl managed to hide on a small boat near the pier. The boat itself became their saviour and, miraculously, they made it to the island to gather help.
Six men from the island then went to the shore in order to save Caitlin. It was an act full of compassion, led by a man called Norman who, sadly, passed away one year following his mission to the mainland.
Knowing that Caitlin could neither speak nor hear, Norman asked Emmett to join him along with Reganâs husband George. Both George and Emmett knew some sign-language after having learned the basics for Reganâs sake and were therefore well equipped to communicate with the captured girl who appreciated the involvement from both men in the rescue mission.
Alongside Caitlin, the group rescued two more women, as well as a young child who belonged to one of the rebels.
The women had endured great suffering under the care of these barbaric men and it was Emmett who took revenge for them after they were freed.
It was also Emmett who carried Caitlin out of the building as she was too injured to walk herself and they had been acquaintances ever since. One wouldnât call them friends, but they sure got along, at least until now, which is when their lives were to be changed forever.
To be continuedâŚ

A Quiet Place 2/Emmett imagines - Donât be a Coward
AN: This had been going through my head for majority of the movie...
Summary: *SPOILERS* Lee and Evelyn took you under their wing when the world went to hell. They treated you like a second daughter and so when Regan runs off, you demand for Emmett to help you find her.Â
Pairing(s): Emmett x Fem!Reader,Â
Word Count: 1,974 (Just something hot and short)
Warnings: *Spoilers for A Quiet Place Part 2*, Age gap relationship, Young adult reader (around 19/20), Smut, unprotected sex, angst
Having to leave the farm was terrifying but with being one of the eldest and the only other adult in the group meant you couldnât show just how scared you truly were.Â
Losing Lee had hurt almost as much as when you lost your own parents. You were very fortunate that the Abbot family had taken you in on that scarring day, not many people wouldâve done that for you.Â
Living in a small town meant that everyone knew everyone; your parents had never been the most social but they tried. You were thankful your father had befriended Lee, he couldnât have picked someone braver and more caring to look after you.Â
But now Lee was gone.Â
Lee was gone and it was now up to you and Evelyn to find help.Â
You had decided to go up hill in search of other people.Â
But when you had finally reached your destination, you hadnât expected to see a familiar face. You werenât sure why you were expecting a stranger in a town where everyone knew each other but you hadnât even imagined youâd see Emmett.Â
Emmett was mostly an old friend of Leeâs but he had been your fatherâs friend too.Â
When you first realised it was him, you felt a sympathy for him, he had lost his two boys and his wife but then he suddenly refused to offer refuge to you and the Abbots. That swiftly changed your mind.
You tried fighting against him but he was a stubborn man. Some things never change, you figured.Â
Emmett was an attractive man still, just now with a salt and pepper beard and longer hair. There was something about his eyes that hinted to why he refused any aid. There was a fear. Something dark and painful behind them.Â
It made you curious to find out what.Â
You spent the rest of the evening trying to comfort Marcus so that he would get some rest and then you spent the remainder of it beside Evelyn and the baby.Â
As the night passed, you didnât manage much sleep before you were awoken to a frantic Evelyn and Marcus.Â
âSheâs gone!â You saw the panic flash across Evelynâs face when she read the note that Marcus had given her.Â
âWhere did she go?â You turned to Marcus, jumping up from your seat.
âThe sea. She said that the song was a sign to go to the sea.â Marcus snivelled, looking almost as worried as his mother for his sister.Â
You turned back to see Evelyn begging for Emmett to go after her.Â
Emmett refused.Â
âIâll go get her and bring her back. Sheâll listen to me.â You whispered, trying to offer help but Evelyn didnât like that idea one bit.Â
âNo. Absolutely not. Iâm not letting both my girls out there alone.âÂ
âWhat if sheâs already in trouble? The longer we argue about this, the further away she gets.â You snatched up your pack and one of the two leftover guns. Evelyn wasnât fast enough to stop you from climbing the ladder but soon you were out of the hole and above the surface again.Â
You only made it a few feet before you felt a large hand wrap around your upper arm.Â
You spun around with a look sharp enough to kill.Â
Emmett must've followed you after seeing Evelyn try to stop you. He silently pointed back to the hatch but you just shook your head.
You tried your hardest not to make a sound as Emmett began forcefully dragging you towards an old controls room. You planted your feet which only forced Emmett to snap around, making the decision to throw you over his shoulder.Â
You pinched him hard to get him to put you down. He bit down on his cheek to stop himself making a noise as he threw you down onto your feet in the dark and dusty room.Â
âYou canât just walk out there with one tiny gun and no map.â Emmett whispered just barely audible after he closed the door.Â
The only light in the room was a small old window that was now partially covered from overgrowth foliage. The light cast shadows across the older manâs face, highlighting his strong features and intense eyes.Â
âWhy not? You werenât exactly jumping at the opportunity.â You whispered back, folding your arms across your chest.Â
The older man chose not to respond. Â
âWhy wonât you help us? What happened to you?â You asked after a prolonged silence. You were furious with the man. Your father had known him and he had been Leeâs closest friend, why would he refuse to help his best friendâs family?!
âI donât have to explain anything to you.â Emmett kept his frown firm on his faceÂ
âWhat happened to the man my father once knew?! That Lee once knew?âÂ
âThis world changed him, like it has everyone else, like it has you.â You were taken back by his statement. He barely even knew you.Â
âIt didnât change me. I just grew up.âÂ
âI can see that.â You watched the manâs eyes drop down your form before returning to your face. You felt a fire erupt in your stomach but forcefully pushed it down.Â
âLet me out. Iâm going after her before itâs too late.â You went to push past the man to get to the door but he only blocked the way.Â
âI canât let you do that.â He muttered.Â
âThen go after her yourself!â You tried to not let your anger get the best of you, trying not to raise your voice too loud.Â
âYou have no idea what itâs like out there.â His eyes were haunted but from what you were still unsure.Â
âYouâre a coward.â His statement had only made your frustration grow. If it truly was that dangerous then why would he let Regan be out there by herself?
A rustle of the bushes outside interrupted the both of you.Â
Emmett stepped forward, closing his large hand over your mouth. He pressed you against the wall behind you, leaning to get a view out of the window.
The cold concrete against your bare skin was a sweet release from the heat of the man in front of you. His scent was overwhelming as he held you in place.Â
You both remained there, fear painted across your faces until you realised it had just been a bird that soon began to fly away.
Emmett removed his hand from your mouth slowly. Looking down into your eyes as he did.Â
The heat of the dank little room had already created a layer of sweat on both of your skin. The dirt and slick on the tan skin of the manâs neck didnât seem to repel you but entice you.Â
Emmett couldnât help but let his eyes drop down to your chest as you tried to slow your breathing. He felt himself twitching at the sight of your breasts rising and falling in the dim light. It had been a long time since he relished in that passionate pleasure in life.Â
âWe should go.â Emmett tried to be rational, taking a step back from you.Â
âCoward.â You muttered. The word was enough to trigger action in him this time.Â
Emmett rolled his eyes, frustration pumping through him.Â
He snapped back to you.Â
Emmett met your lips with his, his hand gripping your jaw under your ear as he allowed himself to kiss you hungrily.Â
You raised your hands to his hips, holding the fabric of his jacket tightly as you arched your hips against his.Â
Emmett backed you against the wall, his hands dropping to remove your t-shirt. You helped him, lifting your arms above your head before reaching for his jacket buttons. You tore the thick coat away, revealing the dirty t-shirt beneath.Â
The desperation to be touched had over taken any rational thought inside your head. This man had been friends with your father, you were meant to be rushing after Regan and you definitely shouldnât be about to have sex somewhere you could be heard and then killed.Â
Emmett tugged his pants down as quietly as he could and you did the same. Once you had completely removed your jeans, you wrapped your arms around the back of his neck and you closed the space between you once again.Â
Emmett hooked his hand under your thigh and lifted one of your legs up onto his hip, pushing you up the wall behind you to take the majority of the weight.Â
One of Emmettâs hands held your thigh as the other took his member from his boxer briefs. He lined himself up with you, edging your panties to the side, his tip rubbing against your already slick folds.Â
Emmett let out a quiet groan in his throat making you throb with desire and longing.Â
Emmett wasted no time, he pressed himself inside of you slowly. His hand immediately shooting up to cover your mouth as you gasped at the size of him. Â
His eyes were dark, his stare intense as he filled you. You knew he was telling you to remain silent with that look. It made your stomach flip.Â
He waited a moment after completely filling you. You started to roll your hips, mentally begging him to move, to which he seemed to get the message.Â
He bit his inner cheek as he started to thrust in and out of you. Your fingers shot up to the hand covering your mouth and you couldnât help but dig your nails into his tough skin.Â
Emmett winced slightly at the dull pain but continued, he thrusted deeper into you, your clothes managing to muffle a lot of the movement between you both.Â
You wanted nothing more than to hear the man moan and talk to you, to continue this in a private bedroom where he could have you any way he wanted but you knew life didnât work that way anymore. However, that moment in the damp and dark controls room had felt like heaven after all the hell youâd been through recently.Â
You jaw hurt and you struggled to steady your breathing under Emmettâs hand but you ignored the ache of his grip as you moved your hips against him.Â
You knew you wouldnât last long at the pace and depth that Emmett was going but you had a suspicion neither would he.Â
Emmettâs eyes dropped down to your breasts as they bounced with each thrust. He bit down on his lip and threw his head back, closing his eyes to try and control his climax.Â
You absorbed every feature of his as you moved against him; his furrowed brow, the sweat beading across his forehead...Â
Your stomach began to tighten as your climax stirred.Â
Emmett didnât let up, his thrusts going harder and faster as he too drew near.Â
Emmett could tell you were close as your eyes squeezed shut and your clutch on him grew even tighter. The pain was bittersweet and a bruising would definitely show later on, something he might have to hide from Evelyn...
You were thankful for the placement of Emmettâs hand as you came undone. You were certain you would have cried out if it hadnât been there.Â
Emmett urged forward, biting down on your shoulder as he spilled his seed down the inside of your thigh. The pulsing of your walls around him had been too much.
You both stayed there for a moment, catching your breath as you recovered before Emmett tore himself away from you.Â
You reached for your t-shirt and jeans as Emmett zipped up his pants.Â
âWe shouldnât have done that.â He grumbled after a second of silence.Â
âBut we did.â You tugged up your jeans, glancing over at the older man. âNow, letâs go get my sister.âÂ
