POV: you went diving at night and spotted Ordovician nautiloids feasting on a eurypterid carcass, after a while the commotion has attracted the giants, Endoceratids slowly creeping into view

In yesterdays formation #paleostream we covered the fauna and flora of the Consthum quarry, a early Devonian locality in Luxembourg that is not much explored yet.
Tumblr media
While lots of fossils are known most are rather small which made it a big surprise when suddenly parts of a 1,5 m long Jaekelopterus turned up.
Tumblr media
This created quite a imbalance in the composition so I decided... kill the big guy, to have a feast on its back! Otherwise you can't get close enough to appreciate the little guys.

Not sure if this qualifies since it's a) extinct and b) aquatic BUT this is one of my most cherished and desired bug objects ever:

A BUG IS A BUG!! i'm incredibly loose with the term so i don't mind at all. THIS IS AWESOME I LOVE EXTINCT CRITTERS!!! i don't know much about them but all i know is that there were huge gigantic bugs back then and thats awesome and it needs to happen again. and this guy would be an awesome body pillow

Unfortunately the Pentecopterus had taken a liking to my camera and ran off with it. So that's all for #HotAmmoniteAugust folks! And thanks for tuning in! Thanks to
@ddinodan for coming up with this art prompt, it ended up being super fun to do!

Here we go again!
Result of the Ballagan formation #paleostream
It's probably the most obscure formation we covered so far but it fills an important gap, Romer's gap to be precise. Or at least it tries.
I hope you get an idea of the this enigmatic slice of time here.
Tumblr media
Thanks to some pretty nice papers we were able to piece together flora and fauna in a satisfying way. While uncertainties and gaps remains we try here to give a cross section of the preserved biota, covering all major clades.
Tumblr media
To get an idea of what we left out you can have a look here, a size chart by Discord members JW and Gnath, that formed the backbone of the composition you see above.
