The United Kingdom Can't Afford To Risk A National Final... Yet
“Just get 30 songs, do five heats of six acts, have a grand final with ten acts and some lucky runners-up, and the BBC will be able to find the best song in the world and rediscover success at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.” Following the news that TaP Music will no longer be working with the BBC to find an act to represent the United Kingdom, I’ve read something along those lines many

EBU really has the nerve to say this while letting a genocidal state compete and not batting an eye while that delegation harasses everyone there

Saw someone criticize Samo mi se spava like "why do people like this song he's just moaning" and I mean, even if that were true (which it isn't), why are you complaining??

what happened with eurovision half my non american mutuals r losing their minds please help m
Okay so a little bit of context for anybody unaware - the way Eurovision votes work is that you have the jury vote and the public vote. The jury vote is where Professional Music Experts from all the countries involved give points to the competitor that they want to win, while the public vote is where they average out votes from the audience and give points from that. The jury vote is historically kinda shit and people almost always disagree with it, and often it seems to be politically motivated to some extent as well (if you've seen people talking about "voting for their neighbours", it's because sometimes countries will continuously give points to a neighboring country, it's a whole thing), the public vote is usually a game changer unless there's some massive gaps between competitors from the jury vote.
By far the most popular entry this year was Finland's. You might've seen him around, he's the guy with the lime green puffer jacket that's just the sleeves. Personally his song isn't really my thing but I 100% get the appeal and it definitely deserves the hype. Sweden, on the other hand, had a more contentious entry. Personally I did really like it, but it's not like, a favourite - top 10 but not top 5, y'know? But I've seen a lot of people thinking it was kinda mid too.
The jury gave a lot of points to Sweden. By the time the jury segment was finished, Sweden was in first place by 340 points, a whole 163 points ahead of the second place contestant, while Finland was back in 4th place with 150 points. The public votes came in, and Finland did get a LOT from the public vote, bringing them up to 526 points, but Sweden ultimately won with 583 points, even though they got like 100 less points from the public vote than Finland did. So now people are rioting and are going to explode the jury

I really feel like eurovision this year was rigged, and not even because of the mic stuff or ABBA’s 50th anniversary. I just don’t believe Austria got that few votes from the public
#like i have seen SO many people saying they’re voting from austria and they love their song#*FOR austria not from#and then they get 16 votes??? no. no#like i wasn’t expecting them to win and i didn’t particularly want them to win#but that stands out to me as something that is just untrue. something that is a blatant lie#like eurovision has been fixed since the introduction of the jury vote imo#last year was rigged. i mean i believe that ukraine won legitimately but NO WAY did uk legitimately come second lmao#no way did that many people actually vote for us!!! we’re the laughing stock of europe#they rigged it so we would come second so brits wouldn’t be mad when we hosted it & would think we were hosting it because we came second#when actually we have to host it because we are the default if a country can’t host#but can you imagine the stupid bullshit people would have said if we’d gotten nil pois and then had to host it#anyway we NEED to get rid of the juries#the voting used to be the most fun part of the show but now it’s shit because all we’re doing is finding out who the ‘experts’ have decided#should win. and the popular vote is falsified i’m sure of it#it’s bullshit and i hate it#‘we made eurovision better!!’ you fucked up the world’s campest music festival is what you did. look at it. it’s rigged so no one actually#cool or interesting will win#personal#*not mĂ„neskin baby i’m not talking about you#mĂ„neskin were a rare case of lightning striking so hard it was legitimately impossible for anyone else to win that year

okay y'all know my several tragic blackrose is fairytale by alexander rybak posts? (i've linked the female covers before but for simplicity i'll but the original song here, ignore mr rybak staring you dead in the face with the album art)
and ocean. absolutely has first chair violin energy, right? soooo. imagine constance singing this song bc she and ocean dated when they were kids but uranium was homophobic and ocean wanted to move on to greater things and leave the town behind while constance wanted to stay and this caused tension but they deeply loved each other. eventually, ocean left (she's studying at a prestigious canadian university, if you even care). constance, the singer, regrets how it ended and, now she's older, wants to find her again. where does the violin come into this? ocean wrote this little violin melody for constance while they were together. it's the sound other than ocean's voice that comes to mind when she thinks about her. it was constance's ringtone while they were together (and a while after they broke up) she has it committed to memory. like a "ghost of the past" thing. little does constance know, ocean also has regrets. she also wants them to be happy. together. she can't let this fairytale go. so, she uses this violin part as a mermaid's song, calling her back home to her. it hasn't worked yet, but maybe it will. one day.

Especially with antics such as putting cheering tracks over the audience‘s booing reaction and putting people through nearly TSA-level security checks to avoid any sliver of ‚politics‘ (aka only the politics that they like can be platformed).
Y'all need to read the hunger games again. Because the met gala and Eurovision being draped in million dollar extravagances and televised internationally while children are starved to death in Palestine is capitol level shit. We have a responsibility to be a witness.
