I feel the need to periodically remind people that Idiocracy is a eugenics movie.
One of the things that eugenicists believe is that it is bad for society when the “wrong people” breed.
The entire premise of the movie is that “stupid people” kept having kids while “smart people” didn’t have kids, and it ruined society because stupid genes propagated while smart genes died out. This is eugenics propaganda.
I know people will read this and their response will be “actually it’s satire” but the movie isn’t satirizing eugenics. It’s satirizing anti-intellectualism, and consumerism, and it proposes eugenics as a solution.
When eugenics was first conceived, it was used as a way to justify inequality. The idea was that people who held privilege were able to do so because they were smarter and genetically superior to lazy and stupid people who don’t have privilege. Obviously this is bad and wrong, but it is also the core lesson of Idiocracy.
The movie literally ends with the main character becoming president and having “the smartest children in the world.” Because he and his wife have smarter genes than everyone else. The proposed solution for the things that Idiocracy is satirizing is for the smart people to have children that can be in charge of the world.
I know it’s fun to use this movie to dunk on anti-intellectualism and the MAGA movement, but we need to stop. When you quote and reference this movie you are spreading eugenics propaganda.

Okay, I'm only gonna say this once: this is eugenics bullshit. People don't have allergies or celiac disease because they have "bad DNA."
What the fuuuuck.

The fact that the medics of e and d company shaved a LTs mustache and then gave sobel a appendectomy scar after knocking him out with anesthetic as a retaliation against their personal items being taken as contraband is actually insane

Wanna hear my truly awful thought/concept that could be either interesting or dog shit? Too bad. (Heartsteel Kayn's look and attitude towards his music crawled into my brain unwillingly.)

Because parental dna is stored in the audacity, the dorky eyebrows, the vaguely plausible inoffensive face shape, and the good biceps exclusively. Obviously.
Me the past 2 days like

(The other parent was a young one off mistake with a trans Noxian dude who was visiting Ionia at the time, because it's my terrible silly thought, and I say so. (And we need a plausible reason for Kayn to be born in Noxus before being child soldier'd into the war and found by Zed.))

stolas' reaction to being banished into poverty made me incredibly uncomfortable (to the point of nausea) and i hate how the show provides little nuanced commentary on it and doesn't delve into it.

I'm hardly uncritical of Aragorn or his hereditary claim to the Gondorian throne, but I do think the occasional focus on how he only has a tiny fraction of Elvish blood or Elendil's/Elros's blood is ill-placed.
I mean, for one, counting generations in a single line of descent with someone as inbred as Aragorn doesn't make sense anyway.
But more importantly, it's one thing to point out how much time has passed between Isildur's time in Gondor and LOTR, or even Fíriel's time and Aragorn's. It has been a very long time, and that's part of what makes the challenge so steep for him (it'd be less interesting if he could just waltz into Gondor and be instantly acclaimed at any moment). But when it gets down to "and how many portions of X blood does he have, anyway," it's just ... ugh. Let's not.

in the past few weeks, I have had to witness multiple posts by abled people, disabled people and people on the cusp of disability that amounted to "If I found myself unable to ethically generate profit, I'd choose ethics", sometimes with examples of disabled folks pimping themselves as freak shows.
(If you find that assessment harsh i'll remind you that it's none of your business how the disability community views inspiration porn, burn survivor testimonial books, paraplegic coaching courses and the likes.)
Let's take a closer look and unpack a little. There is nothing "ethical" about a system that makes you generate profit to be allowed to survive. If you find yourself unable to survive and have to resort to "unethical" insulin from dogs or selling drugs for example: are you being unethical or is the system that doesn't guarantee you any human rights at fault? ---------------------------
I would like to extend a heartfelt fuck you to everyone who's made all of us disabled folks have to go through these "trolley problems" with our real lives at stake since benefits got demonized, since austerity after the 2008 crash and during the ongoing pandemic and climate crisis... and still wheel us out for the hypothetical thought experiments of whatever AI assistance, marriage rights, sex work, police brutality and bodily autonomy is on the menu today.
Because we keep showing up, putting in our testimonials and all our efforts when the fight never had our rights as an end goal. We do not have marriage, we do not have UBI, we still get brutalized for being ill in public and rot in jail more than able-bodied folks, we beg for medicine or get sterilized at the whims of the state (plus the intersections on top of all that).
So please, if you have any humanity left, do not use fringe case disabled people in your debates as a rhetorical gotcha.
And keep in mind that we are you: as you age, if you get a bad covid case or a car accident. Might want to keep that in mind when advocating for your own rights, at least leave the door open maybe?

Preach my fucking truth. I hate this shit so much. From the time I was a kid I've always stuck up for the "evil races." I think it had to do with growing up in the woods. Oh, so the talking herbivores are good, and the talking carnivores are bad? IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT THEY HAVE TO EAT!
Female Power Romantasy novels can be indulgent as they like with giving the MC all the powers and hottest love interests and overcomplicated backstories, and I will cheer that on. Yes, there is a place for this! I see your vision, girl!
But the moment it starts talking about blood purity, her divine right to rule, and how ubermensch her babies will be with the man with the equally super special bloodline? You're doing girlboss eugenics at that point.
