eternal cylinder rocks for so many reasons, but a big one is the full on committal to the fact that yes, the main villain of this game is literally just a large cylinder.

all it can do is roll forwards, and it’s an existential threat to your entire world.

I think every Speculative Biology-adjacent game needs at least one unnatural/artificial-looking creature that sometimes (but not always) has a different aesthetic to everything else in the game and exists solely makes the player's life hell, e.g the Wraiths from Pikmin, the Warpers from Subnautica, the Servants from The Eternal Cylinder, the Grox from Spore (and, to a lesser extent, the Dronox and Insectrox from Galactic Adventures).

Screw horror games, play the eternal cylinder if you want to have nightmares.

It's the most terrifying game I've ever played, subnautica being a close second.

For some reason games that are meant to be horror are never as scary as these two.

I'm guessing we're talking appearance, so I'd say the Angstok from The Eternal Cylinder game. From far away it just looks like it's dead. The only part of it you can see is a tangled mess of bone-like, segmented tubes sprouted from the sand, so you just assume it's a weird plant or something (I did), but when you come close enough to it, it rapidly extends in your direction and it snatches you. It creeps the crap out of me, but it's really cool!
