There is a major problem with expectation and hope.  It brings along sometime weighty baggage and makes things harder to achieve.  For example, just look across the pond at attempts to “make America great again��.  I wish them all well but if it was me, the pressure would not be helpful.  Although, wilful blindness may be an essential asset in such case.  Lucky US.
In a much less exciting manner, this is how I arrived at the Clove Club, burdened with expectation.  I had even visited its little brother, Luca, just the night before to get in the mood.  That was a good meal setting up for a suitable encore.  The Clove Club is a particularly storied entrant to the London food scene, featuring in many of the world’s best food guides.  So no pressure there…
Ogleshield Gougére.  A lonely cheese puff to start.  I soon found out why it was alone.  It was so good that if it had siblings, I would have gobbled them all and spoilt my dinner.  Firm pastry, cheesy inside, savoury, soft and firm all together.  Something to build expectations for the future.
Melon Gazpacho Granita.  An interesting light touch.  Reminded me of Thai vegetable spring rolls.  A lighter cleaner taste.
Brown Crab Tart & Devilled Spices.  Mounted on this particularly sharp shell, there could be no mistaking this for pieces of crustacean.  Full and creamy with delightful spice, something to have again if I returned.
Green Bean, Ewe’s Milk & Hazelnut Tart.  A demonstration of why you can be vegetarian and still love food.  Delightful cream, crispy clean bean, it all went well together.
Buttermilk Fried Chicken & Pine Salt.  Yet it was the last amuse bouche which will forever have a place in my heart.  You would think that with my obsession with things cooked with copious amounts of oil, I would have found deep fried nirvana by now.  This showed me although I had previously thought I had arrived, I was sadly mistaken.
This is what fried chicken dreams of being.
With the amuse bouches done, it was on to the real food.
Warm Penjar Tomato, Ginger Dressing, Ham & Aromatic Herbs.  Light and interesting.  The tomato itself was intensively flavourful, worlds apart from the salad tomatoes that I have usually tried.
Theatrics is half the game.  Well, that’s what they say in show biz.  That’s kind of what I felt like the Clove Club was at times.
Gently Cooked Orkney Scallop, Celtic Mustard & Kelp Broth.  Succulent, flavourful and with an inspired mustard kick.
Cornish Sardine Sashimi.  This was a surprise.  It has been a while since I have had such decadently delicious fish.  This sardine sashimi is up there with some of the best sashimi I have had.  A hint of minced ginger, a crispy cracker base and delicately lacerated flesh.  Sublime.
Worcestershire, Smoked Sardine & Whisky Broth.  The sardine came with something else sublime.  Creamy, light and meaty soup, I could have easily drowned myself in this if there was more.
Butter on a chipped plate.  Perhaps this was a sign.  A chip off a otherwise rather beautiful place.  A harbinger that things were not as they seemed.
Bread.  Ok but not awe inspiring.  It tasted a little too bitter for me, like it had been slightly too long in the oven.  Yet perhaps I am being picky as usual and instead this is just bread done differently.
Cornish Turbot, Garden Vegetables, Oyster & Caviar Sauce.  If there was a rich man’s dish, this is probably close to the stereotype.  If it was foie gras loaded with caviar, the expenses would be even greater.  The fish was delicate and cooked just right, the cream and caviar heightened the taste of the fish and the leek provided an earthy counterpoint.  Delightful.
Native Lobster cooked to order, Courgette & Indian Spices.  Not bad although not particularly inspiring in this day of age of cheap lobster for the masses.  Translation – it was good but nothing mind-blowing.
  A baleful gaze.  This is what I felt like doing once the meat courses started.  
Thigh.  Not bad, although a little small.  My hopes had been built up as they left Mr Chicken on my table with explicit instructions not to peek inside.  I dreamed that there was real treasures inside.  Instead, there was just this skewer.  Kind of anticlimactic.  It was ok but nothing amazing.
Slow Roast Lincolnshire Chicken breast, Manjimup Truffle, Broad Beans & Girolles.  Sadly underwhelming.  Lacking depth of flavour, it just didn’t do it for me.  The truffle was good but not enough to lift up the plain breast.
Sirloin of Aberdeen Angus Beef, Jersey Royal & Hay Hollandaise.  Suffered from the same issue as the chicken above.  Yet, perhaps it is because I have been spoilt by beef of a Japanese kind.  This English breed just seemed rather insipid as it didn’t taste of that much.  It was, strangely enough, the hollandaise that was the star here.  
Loquat Sorbet, Loquat Kernel Cream & Puffed Amaranth.  As I broke the Amaranth, I was treated to a show of small balls bouncing up and down as I methodically broke the disc.  With such a show I had high hopes.  I was to find that the taste was pleasant if not particularly awe inspiring.
Warm Potato Mousse, Coffee & Caramel Ice Cream.  This was probably the most weird dish of the day.  Ice cream with potato mouse set off question marks all over my head.  A strange event.  Not unpleasant but just strange.
Homemade Chocolate.  Nothing to write home about as it was rather ordinary.
Dr Henderson’s Bon Bon.  I can’t really judge these as I haven’t had many before.  I guess it was ok.
Peated Barley Cake & Dundee Marmalade Cream.  This though I will mention.  Delightfully sweet (but not too sweet) with barley and orange hints, this was inspired.  A delicious end.
Like many things in my life, things started off so well.  Unfortunately, as time went on, perhaps understandably, the restaurant staff seemed to begin to lose interest in me as the pace of the meal tended to tail off.  That is somewhat excusable as sometimes I get bored by myself too.  As the service seemed to abate, so too did the delight of the food.  It held so much promise at the start but devolved to something just good but not exceptional.  As I say of some of my friends, they started off so well but in the end, things kind of fell apart.
As I left at the end of 4 hours, I thought it would just have been nice if it hadn’t been so expensive a lesson to learn.  Yet, as they say, you live and learn.
  A quiet eating 7.5/10.
Dinner (all of the above) was GBP130 excluding drinks and service.

The Development of a Southern Artistic Tradition

Much of American art historical attention and research has primarily focused on the large urban centers of the Northeast like Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. One famous quip from the 1960s claimed that nothing of artistic value happens south of Baltimore. The size, location, and mercantile activities of these northern metropolises promoted a cultural production that exhibited influence on both fashion and the arts over the rest of the newfound country.
The first prominent American artists were from New England; such as Benjamin West (1738–1820), John Singleton Copley (1738–1815), and Charles Willson Peale (1741–1827). The agrarian lifestyle of the southern colonies promoted regionalism and therefore cultural stagnation. The planter-aristocracy economic model did not encourage the creation of populated communities with open avenues of intellectual activity and fructification; therefore, very little artistic production transpired. Much of early southern portraiture and decorative art was crafted by visiting artists travelling South to gain commissions. Charleston, South Carolina, had on average the wealthiest citizens of any city in the colonies before the Revolution, but it was the only reputable city in the entirety of the South in the popular opinion of Northern elites and so attracted few artists. 
Although the cultivation of fine arts in America originated in New England, southern merchants, statesmen, and military officers nonetheless yearned to have their portraits painted as they became increasingly wealthy following the American revolution. Itinerant artists were most common during the colonial and early federal periods of America. By the turn of the nineteenth century, a new middle class of businessmen and successful planters became able to afford to have their portrait taken, or to procure the portrait of their entire family. Through my research into the artistic activity of Norfolk, Virginia in the early nineteenth century, I have discovered a pattern of travel in which multiple artists, many of whom knew of each other and socialized within the same circles, embarked to acquire new portrait commissions that forced the artists further away from their established refuges up North.
William Dunlap (American, 1766–1839) was a theater manager, actor, and painter that was famous for managing two of New York’s first theaters, The Street Theater and the Park Theater. By 1817, due to financial strain, Dunlap was a full-time portrait painter who traveled throughout the Eastern seaboard from New York and to Norfolk, where he stayed from October 1819 to April 1820. He kept a meticulous diary of his daily activities, which has provided unprecedented personal insights into early art production in the Tidewater region of Virginia.

Dunlap’s diary provides anecdotal descriptions of artists, artworks, and local Norfolk personalities. In Dunlap’s opinion, the most memorable and undesirable artist to travel through Norfolk in the first decades of the nineteenth century was the painter Joshua Shaw. Shaw was born in Lincolnshire, Bristol, England, and was orphaned at an early age. While working for a farmer as a crow-scarer, he discovered an innate talent for drawing and sketching the surrounding animals. He subsequently trained in London during his adolescence with his master sending him to Manchester to become a foreman shortly after his arrival. Dissatisfied with his assignment, Shaw traveled back to London and began successfully selling landscapes on the city streets.
By 1819, Shaw immigrated to Philadelphia, PA where he collaborated with engraver John Hill on a series of landscapes of America titled Picturesque Views of American Scenery (1820–21). This collection of painted scenes from nature is what brought Shaw to Norfolk, as he was trying to sell subscriptions to his portfolio.
Being the foreign newcomer to town, Dunlap saw Shaw as brash and arrogant. He records in his diary that “[John] Crawley brings [Joshua] Shaw the miniature painter to see me, he is just from Baltimore, traveling to procure subscriptions to American Views (Picturesque Views of American Scenery), engraved by [John] Hill, painted by Shaw with letter press descriptions which he says is to descriptive of a Sentimental journal and very funny. He is an ignorant, conceited English blockhead.” He goes on to identify a letter written by Shaw that had “presumption and ignorance marked on it as on his conversation.” 
Another vital artistic figure featured throughout Dunlap’s diary is Thomas Williamson (1777–1846). He was the one of the first recorded art collectors in the Norfolk area. He held a lucrative position as a cashier at the Bank of Virginia that, combined with inherited money, provided him enough wealth to publicly promote himself as a patron of the arts. Dunlap comments on Williamson’s somewhat naive collection in his diary, stating there are “some dozens portraits by Thomson [Cephas Thompson], a man who cleared $3,700 in five months in this place some years back are vilely bad- a large picture by Crawley of three children is horrid, the rest of Mr. Williamson’s collection is made up of indifferent landscapes, and bad copies.”

His collection may not have been refined enough for Dunlap’s taste, but Williamson’s role is not just a lowly part-time collector but a foundational connective tissue between early artistic efforts in Norfolk. His social connections allowed for Dunlap to gain portrait commissions from multiple naval officers and local merchants known through commercial affairs. Furthermore, Williamson facilitated relationships between Dunlap and Joshua Shaw, John Hill, as well as fellow itinerant artist John Crawley (American; born England, 1784–after 1842), which produced some of the earliest images of Hampton Roads that were widely disseminated across the United States, such as Lynnhaven Bay (1820), and Norfolk, from Gosport, Virginia (1830, Chrysler Museum of Art). Williamson’s collection was essentially a depository of art produced in Norfolk and surrounding counties as well as a crossroads of artistic ideas, styles, and motives.

Gosport, Virginia, is the Navy Ship Yard now located in Portsmouth on the left bank of the South Branch Elizabeth River, almost eight miles downstream of Norfolk. Hill is depicting the Navy Yard in the foreground, with the distant urbanity being the Norfolk waterfront along the main Elizabeth River. The Naval Ship Yard is almost directly south of downtown, providing an opportune rendering of the city from a unique point of view. The flat and unaltered marshes along the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay allow Hill to see miles upstream as well as enlarges Norfolk’s presence within the surrounding landscape.
Thomas Williamson, although an amateur artist, provided greater contributions to the artistic production in Norfolk by creating relationships between the itinerant talents passing through the region during the early federal period, and sharing their works among other interested parties. His permanent residency in Norfolk provided the city with a full-time art connoisseur whose collecting and social habits attempted to forge an established cultural center in the region with a stable and recognizable footprint within the context of American art.
Dunlap, Williamson, and Shaw comprise the first generation of American artists fully descriptive of a distinctly American landscape aesthetic that is directly impacted by southern regionalism and evolving artistic tastes of new clientele. Each artist that traversed through Norfolk began their careers either in England or the Northeast but traveled south to Virginia and down the Chesapeake Bay both out of economic necessity and the desire to capitalize on the wealthy patrons of the planter aristocracy and trade merchants, who before did not have access to trained artists and their services.

My Media Interview
The interview was an individual assignment for every person on our course, Music and Live Events Management. We were about to prepare for it and it was our responsibility to ensure that we arrive on time, because we couldn’t redo it on another day. That was our one and the only chance. We were given four scenarios couple of weeks earlier, so we knew the issues and had a lot of time to prepare.
Every each of us were the spokesperson for an event organisation or venue and a TV journalist had discovered something precarious about our event or venue which we had to answer to. The TV news journalist led the interview - that was one of our head teachers. We had only one opportunity to present our case. We had prior notice of all four potential scenarios but didn’t know in advance which one we would be questioned about, so comprehensive research and preparation was essential. We were as well advised of two of the four questions for each scenario in advance.
Our task was to show an understanding of the business structures and different management principles within the live music industry. We had to reflect on research process and practices in that business.

These words our teachers kept telling us and I definitely agree with them. Planning and preparation are essential prerequisites. Besides, the more prepared you are the less nervous you’ll get on the interview.
I started my arrangements with watching films about how to act during interview and what not to do. The key point is to answer the question then it’s the examined person mission to make it interesting, significant and use worthy. Initially, introduce yourself, first impression is everything. You are running a new festival in Lincolnshire this Summer and have agreed a sponsorship deal with BP. This is a new venture for them and they are underwriting all of the costs for your event. However, local environmental groups are unhappy with BP’s involvement.
Questions: 1. What is the value to you of having a sponsor involved with your event? 2. BP have been linked with a number of high profile cases involving environmental damage. Are they appropriate partners for an event in the Lincolnshire countryside?
Sponsorship is a business relationship between a provider of funds, resources or services and an individual, event or organisation that is very important and needed for both companies. The benefits are given to the both sides. BP is one of the most significant corporate investors in UK arts and culture. Royal Opera House, British Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Royal Shakespeare Company are all very happy with the long-term BP sponsorship. The oil company as a sponsor is very controversial. There are many protests against it and several websites are led (artnotoil.org.uk, bp-or-not-bp.org), because it’s the third biggest contribution to climate change. But in the answer you need to give only the benefits from that sponsorship, e.g. oil company offers to pay 10% of tickets for student, and will sponsor the fuel for buses to take people to the countryside where the festival is held (environmentally friendly because of less fumes). The residents whose homes overlook your venue have complaint to the police that group of youths are getting behind your venue and they believe that drug deals and drug use is taking place. Syringes have been found in the car park during the daytime.
Questions: 1. Have you taken advice from anyone regarding dealing with this issue? 2. Are you aware of a problem with drug dealing at your venue?
Again, apologise the incident like that even happened and state that you reacted immediately, e.g. called the police, they checked the venue and reassure that this kind of affair won’t happen again soon. Venues like that face huge challenges in tackling drugs. Of course show that you are aware about what is happening at your venture and how you fight with it: The processes are being reviewed and substantial changes to the police have already been proposed. As self-respecting and experienced operators you are not overlooking it and trying to prevent it, because the safety of the customers must always be number one priority. In Britain there is a fashion for punishing venues for things that happen both in and outside them, and down the road quite often as well. It reflects a wrong minded approach to one of the most dynamic and important sectors of the society. It is also a place loved by the silent majority of Britons. Millions go out every week to bars, clubs, pubs to enjoy themselves, some of whom consume drugs. How to deal with drugs is a question for the whole society and cannot and should not be foisted in an unmediated way on to venues like that.

The artist you manage made a statement from the stage at last night’s show where he stated that the Pope was ‘probably’ aware of child abuse by priests in his own country. That has been picked up by the media who now want to question your artist about the statement.
Questions: 1. Has your artist apologised for their statements? 2. Does your artist believe that the Pope knew of the alleged abuse?
You need to apologise for the controversial statement that was said publicly. Say that you are aware that it might meet several disagreements but your artist, as a citizen of the country, has a freedom of speech, which is the right to articulate one’s opinion and ideas without fear of government retaliation or censorship. He’s just an artist expressing his values by using that right to free speech. The statement was not about to cause harm to anyone. Getting the statement in perspective, at least he wasn’t afraid to say things that are important and might bring some changes. Not wanting to speak in his name, assure that he’s going to declare his honest statement in his next interview.
If it goes to any crisis that happened and you are questioned about, admit to the problem and apologise. It’s always better to own-up to your own mistake and regret. Limit the scope of the problem by putting it into perspective, this helps to deflate the issue. Then outline a solution that shows you’re taking responsibility, what can rebuild an even greater level of trust and respect than what you had before the incident.
The Day

Each interview lasted 5 minutes and we were questioned individually. We were given the schedule with the time and number of the room few days before.
My interview was scheduled at noon. I started the day with a nice breakfast and read my prepared information again. I know that my teachers are very tolerant and want to help us in any way they can. I am also rather a very calm and stress-free person, so I wasn’t too nervous, it was just a healthy bucking up. I was at a place 30 minutes earlier. There were already few people from my course, some of them after and some of them before the interview. We were talking about how did it go and how the other people feel. Most of them were happy about their performance.
When i got inside at first I was asked questions about Christmas and my holidays in Poland, probably for relaxation. It helped. There was a camera between me and my teacher but it didn’t cost me any more nerves. It was still only me and his in the room. I got the Sponsor scenario, at first I can tell that I got well. I read a lot about the protests against BP and their long-term sponsorships but when it got to the unknown questions I got a bit lost. Maybe it wasn’t the finest and magnificent presentation but I’m still happy with my actions and answers and the total interview. When I got out of the room I felt relief. I could sit down with a calm mind because it’s now behind me and could upraise other people that it’s not that scary as it seems to be.

My biggest struggle during any assignment is the language. I am not a native Englishman, so it is always a bit harder for me. But I’m trying my best every time and I’m learning every day and I am very happy about the opportunities the life gives me.
Now I’m waiting for the assessment. The interview will be marked on the content of the answers and understanding of the subject matter, recommendations on solutions regarding the problem under discussion, and interview techniques, style and approach.

Description

The Old World type grows to approximately 2 ft (0.61 m) tall and wide, with lavender flowers most common, though they can also be white, pink, or purple. The plant flowers in late spring or summer. The leaves are oblong, ranging in size up to 2.5 in (6.4 cm) long by 1 in (2.5 cm) wide. Leaves are grey-green, rugose on the upper side, and nearly white underneath due to the many short soft hairs. Modern cultivars include leaves with purple, rose, cream, and yellow in many variegated combinations. Sage leaves are covered with fine hairs calledtrichomes.

S. officinalis was described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. It has been grown for centuries in the Old World for its food and healing properties, and was often described in old herbals for the many miraculous properties attributed to it.The specific epithet, officinalis, refers to the plant's medicinal use—the officina was the traditional storeroom of a monastery where herbs and medicines were stored.S. officinalis has been classified under many other scientific names over the years, including six different names since 1940 alone. It is the type species for the genus Salvia.

S. officinalis has numerous common names. Some of the best-known are sage, common sage, garden sage, golden sage, kitchen sage, true sage, culinary sage, Dalmatian sage, and broadleaf sage. Cultivated forms include purple sage and red sage. The specific epithet officinalis refers to plants with a well-established medicinal or culinary value.
History
S. officinalis has been used since ancient times for warding off evil, snakebites, increasing women's fertility, and more. Theophrastus wrote about two different sages, a wild undershrub he called sphakos, and a similar cultivated plant he called elelisphakos. Pliny the Elder said the latter plant was called salvia by the Romans, and used as a diuretic, a local anesthetic for the skin, a styptic, and for other uses. Charlemagne recommended the plant for cultivation in the early Middle Ages, and during the Carolingian Empire, it was cultivated in monastery gardens. Walafrid Strabo described it in his poem Hortulus as having a sweet scent and being useful for many human ailments—he went back to the Greek root for the name and called it lelifagus.
The plant had a high reputation throughout the Middle Ages, with many sayings referring to its healing properties and value. It was sometimes called S. salvatrix (sage the savior), and was one of the ingredients of Four Thieves Vinegar, a blend of herbs which was supposed to ward off the plague. Dioscorides, Pliny, and Galen all recommended sage as a diuretic, hemostatic, emmenagogue, and tonic. John Gerard's Herball (1597) states that sage "is singularly good for the head and brain, it quickeneth the senses and memory, strengtheneth the sinews, restoreth health to those that have the palsy, and taketh away shakey trembling of the members. In past centuries it was also used for hair care, insect bites and wasp stings, nervous conditions, mental conditions, oral preparations for inflammation of the mouth, tongue and throat, and also to reduce fevers.

Culinary use
In Britain, sage has for generations been listed as one of the essential herbs, along with parsley, rosemary and thyme (as in the folk song "Scarborough Fair"). It has a savory, slightly peppery flavor. It appears in many European cuisines, notably Italian, Balkan and Middle Eastern cookery. In Italian cuisine, it is an essential condiment for saltimbocca and other dishes, favored with fish. In British and American cooking, it is traditionally served as sage and onion stuffing, an accompaniment to roast turkey or chicken at Christmas or Thanksgiving Day. Other dishes include pork casserole, Sage Derby cheese and Lincolnshire sausages. Despite the common use of traditional and available herbs in French cuisine, sage never found favor there.
Essential oil
Common sage is grown in parts of Europe for distillation of an essential oil, though other species such as Salvia fruticosa may also be harvested and distilled with it. Health
A number of double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized, balanced-crossover studies in healthy humans have demonstrated improved memory, attention/executive function, alertness and mood following single doses of cholinesterase-inhibiting sage extracts or essential oils. A single, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in a small cohort (n = 30) of Alzheimer's disease patients also demonstrated improved cognitive functioning and behavioral function (Clinical Dementia Rating) following a 16-week administration of a Salvia officinalis alcoholic tincture. Extracts of sage can enhance cognitive performance, comparable to the effect of the caffeine found in tea and coffee.
Cultivars
In favorable conditions in the garden, S. officinalis can grow to a substantial size (1 square metre or more), but a number of cultivars are more compact. As such they are valued as small ornamental flowering shrubs, rather than for their herbal properties. Some provide low ground cover, especially in sunny dry environments. Like many herbs they can be killed by a cold wet winter, especially if the soil is not well drained. But they are easily propagated from summer cuttings, and some cultivars are produced from seeds.

Planting
Sage can grow from seeds, but the best way to grow high-quality sage is from cuttings from an established plant.
You can start the seeds/cuttings indoors 6 to 10 weeks before the last spring frost.
Plant the seeds/cuttings in well-drained soil 1 to 2 weeks before the last spring frost.
Plant the seeds/cuttings 24 to 30 inches apart. For best growth, the soil should be between 60º and 70ºF. Plants should grow to be between 12 and 30 inches in height.
In the garden, plant near rosemary, cabbage, and carrots, but keep sage away from cucumbers.
Care
Be sure to water the young plants regularly until they are fully grown so that they don’t dry out.
Prune the heavier, woody stems every spring.
It’s best to replace the plants every 4 to 5 years to ensure the best quality.
