Total Gastrectomy price in pune-meddco

Total Gastrectomy
Total gastrectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the complete removal of the stomach. This complex and life-altering surgery is typically performed as a treatment for various medical conditions, including stomach cancer and certain severe cases of peptic ulcers. Total gastrectomy is a significant surgical intervention with profound implications for a patient's lifestyle and overall health. In this document, we will provide an in-depth overview of total gastrectomy, including its indications, surgical techniques, potential complications, and the postoperative care required.
Indications for Total Gastrectomy
Total gastrectomy is considered when other treatment options have proven ineffective or when the condition is too advanced to be treated conservatively. The primary indications for total gastrectomy include:
Stomach Cancer: Total gastrectomy is a common treatment for stomach cancer (gastric adenocarcinoma) when the tumor cannot be fully removed by partial gastrectomy. It may also be considered for individuals with a high risk of cancer recurrence.
Severe Peptic Ulcers: In cases of severe peptic ulcers that do not respond to medication or endoscopic therapy and that have led to complications like bleeding or perforation, a total gastrectomy may be necessary to prevent further complications.
Intractable Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): When GERD does not respond to medical management and causes severe symptoms or complications like Barrett's esophagus, total gastrectomy may be considered as a last resort.
Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP): FAP is a genetic condition characterized by the development of numerous polyps in the gastrointestinal tract, increasing the risk of cancer. Total gastrectomy may be recommended to prevent stomach cancer in individuals with FAP.
Surgical Techniques
Total gastrectomy is a complex procedure that involves the complete removal of the stomach. The surgeon must then reconstruct the digestive tract to allow food to pass from the esophagus to the small intestine. There are two main techniques for reconstruction after total gastrectomy:
Roux-en-Y Esophagojejunostomy: This is the most common reconstruction method. The surgeon creates a small pouch from the esophagus and connects it directly to the jejunum (the first part of the small intestine). This procedure helps maintain the continuity of the digestive tract and allows for food to bypass the stomach.
Esophagogastrostomy: In this technique, the surgeon connects the remaining esophagus directly to the small intestine, bypassing the need for a stomach pouch. This method is less common and typically reserved for specific cases.
Potential Complications
Total gastrectomy is a major surgery, and like any surgical procedure, it carries certain risks and potential complications, including:
Nutritional Deficiencies: After total gastrectomy, patients are at risk of nutritional deficiencies, particularly of essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin B12, iron, calcium, and folate. This necessitates lifelong supplementation and dietary modifications.
Dumping Syndrome: Rapid passage of food from the small pouch to the small intestine can lead to dumping syndrome, characterized by symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, and weakness, especially after meals high in sugar.
Weight Loss: Patients often experience significant weight loss after total gastrectomy, which can be challenging to manage. It may require dietary adjustments and regular monitoring by a healthcare provider.
Gastroesophageal Reflux: Some patients may develop gastroesophageal reflux after total gastrectomy, which can be managed with medication or further surgical interventions.
Infection: As with any surgery, there is a risk of infection at the surgical site or in the abdominal cavity, which may require antibiotic treatment.
Postoperative Care
Recovery after total gastrectomy is a gradual process that requires close monitoring and significant lifestyle adjustments. Here are some essential aspects of postoperative care:
Dietary Changes: Patients must follow a strict dietary regimen, including small, frequent meals, a focus on protein intake, and avoidance of sugary foods. Nutritionists and dietitians play a crucial role in helping patients adapt to their new diet.
Vitamin and Mineral Supplements: Lifelong supplementation of vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin B12 and iron, is essential to prevent deficiencies.
Regular Follow-Up: Patients need ongoing follow-up with their healthcare team to monitor their nutritional status, manage symptoms, and address any complications that may arise.
Emotional Support: Coping with the physical and emotional changes following total gastrectomy can be challenging. Patients may benefit from counseling or support groups.
Physical Activity: Gradual physical activity is encouraged to aid in recovery and maintain overall health.
Total gastrectomy is a complex surgical procedure performed to treat conditions such as stomach cancer, severe peptic ulcers, and intractable GERD. While it offers a chance at cure or symptom relief, it also comes with significant challenges, including dietary restrictions and the risk of nutritional deficiencies. The decision to undergo total gastrectomy should be carefully considered in consultation with a healthcare team, and patients must be prepared for the lifelong changes it entails. With appropriate postoperative care and support, individuals who undergo total gastrectomy can lead fulfilling lives and manage their health effectively.

Why you should see a gastroenterologist?
Tumblr media
Are you feeling bloated after every meal, constipated, or have unexplained stomach pain? If so, you may want to see a gastroenterologist. A gastroenterologist is a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating conditions of the gastrointestinal tract – which includes the stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, and liver. There are many reasons why you may want to see a gastroenterologist – some of which include chronic diarrhea or constipation, abdominal pain that doesn’t go away after taking medication, changes in your bowel habits (such as increased frequency or lessened stool caliber), gender-specific health problems (like ovarian cancer), and inflammatory bowel disease (like Crohn’s disease).
If you’re experiencing frequent stomach pain, diarrhea, or constipation, it might be time to see a gastroenterologist. These symptoms can be indicative of a number of gastrointestinal issues, some of which can be serious if left untreated. A gastroenterologist will be able to diagnose the cause of your symptoms and recommend the best course of treatment. So if you’re feeling under the weather, don’t wait – make an appointment with a gastroenterologist today!
Top 6 Gastroenterology Conditions
I’ve created a list of the top 6 reasons to see a Gastroenterologist , to help educate others about common digestive symptoms and issues, and to help lessen any apprehension about seeing a GI doctor. If you are experiencing any of these conditions or need a preventative health screening, don’t wait to schedule an appointment with a Gastroenterologist.
1) Abdominal Pain – Stomach or abdominal pain are broad terms used to describe acute or chronic discomfort felt in the abdomen. Possible causes range from food intolerances to acid reflux.
2) Rectal Bleeding – Seeing blood in your stool or on the toilet paper can be alarming. Also, bleeding from higher in the digestive tract such as the stomach or small bowel can produce black tarry bowel movements. Click this link to learn more about the minor to life-threatening causes of rectal bleeding.
3) Change in Bowel Habits – While there is no defined number of bowel movements a person should have daily, it is abnormal to not have a bowel movement for 3 or more days. Other than frequency, any significant change in the color, consistency, shape, or size of your stool (poop) should be evaluated.
4) Colon Cancer Prevention – Colon cancer begins as small polyps (skin tag-like growths) in the lining of the colon or rectum. Some polyps have the genetic blueprint to turn into colon cancer. Fortunately, screening with a colonoscopy can catch these polyps before they become cancerous. Gastroenterologists use a colonoscopy to screen for colon polyps and colon cancer because it is the only procedure that allows the doctor to both find and remove polyps during the same procedure. This is why a colonoscopy is considered the “gold standard” for colon cancer screening.
5) Hemorrhoids – These occur when the veins around the anus or lower rectum become swollen and inflamed. When the veins swell inside the anal canal, it causes internal hemorrhoids. However, when the veins near the outside of the anus swell, they form external hemorrhoids.
6) Heartburn/reflux – Most people experience reflux during their lifetime. Reflux is a burning sensation felt behind the chest that occurs when stomach contents irritate the normal lining of the esophagus.
If you’re experiencing gastrointestinal problems, it’s important to see a gastroenterologist. Dr. Ninad Deshmukh is a great remarkable Gastroenterologist in Pune having a huge concern in dealing with every Gastrointestinal issue like Gastroenterology, Liver Diseases. Dr. Ninad Deshmukh is a leading consultant best gastroenterologist in Pune who have more than 10 years of experience in liver transplant, hepatology, and gastroenterology services.
Why you should see a Gastroenterologist ?
Tumblr media
Are you feeling bloated after every meal, constipated, or have unexplained stomach pain ?

Dr. Nikhil Jillawar is an eminent Surgical Gastroenterologist in Pune treating Diseases in the field of gastroenterology and providing specialized treatment in the field Gastrointestinal Surgical in Pune
Tumblr media
What are the symptoms of GI cancers? Symptoms of GI cancers can vary depending on the type of cancer. Some warning signs may include the following:
Abdominal pain Constipation Diarrhea Change in stool color Blood in the stool Nausea Vomiting Fatigue Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes) Heartburn Unexplained weight loss Feeling bloated Problems swallowing Loss of appetite
What are the risk factors for GI cancers? Risk factors for gastrointestinal cancers vary among the different types. Some known general risk factors may include:
Age Gender Race Smoking Obesity Physical inactivity Heavy alcohol use A family history of GI cancer Having an inherited gene mutation that is known to increase your risk History of other conditions such as type II diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease (IBS), Crohn’s disease, chronic acid reflux, cirrhosis, and chronic viral hepatitis B or C What are the types of gastrointestinal cancer? Anal Cancer: Anal cancer starts in the anal canal–a short tube at the end of your rectum through which stool leaves your body. The inner lining of the anal canal is the mucosa. Most anal cancers start from cells in the mucosa. Anal cancers that start from cells in the glands located under the mucosa are called adenocarcinomas. Many types of tumors can develop in the anus, including non-cancerous ones. Colon and Rectal Cancer (Colorectal): Colorectal cancer starts in the colon or the rectum. These two cancers are often grouped together because they share many similar features. Most colorectal cancers begin as small, noncancerous (benign) clumps of cells, called polyps, on the inner lining of the colon or rectum. Regular screening is recommended for prevention since polyps don’t usually produce symptoms. Esophageal Cancer: A cancer that occurs in the esophagus — a hollow, muscular tube that connects the throat to the stomach. It is located behind the trachea (windpipe) and in front of the spine. The esophagus helps move the food you swallow from the back of the throat to the stomach for digestion. Gallbladder & Biliary Tract Cancer: Gallbladder cancer occurs when malignant cancer cells form in the tissues of the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a small, pear-shaped organ located next to the liver. Its role is to store bile, a fluid that aids with digestion and fat absorption in the small intestine. Biliary tract cancer (also known as cholangiocarcinoma) is cancer that occurs in the bile ducts (tubes that transport bile from the liver). Biliary tract cancer can form anywhere along the bile ducts. Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST): GISTs start in special cells, called interstitial cells of Cajal (ICCs), located in the wall of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, also known as the digestive tract. ICC cells are part of the autonomic nervous system–the part of the nervous system that regulates body processes such as digesting food. The most common sites for GISTs are the stomach and small intestine. Liver Cancer: Liver cancer starts in the cells of the liver. The liver, which is the largest internal organ, lies in the upper right portion of your abdomen, beneath your diaphragm and above your stomach. While other cancers can affect the liver, only cancers that actually start in the liver are considered liver cancer (called primary liver cancer). Hepatocellular carcinoma, which begins in the main type of liver cell (hepatocyte), is the most common type of liver cancer. Pancreatic Cancer: Cancer that begins in the tissues of the pancreas — an organ that sits behind the stomach. It releases enzymes that help digest foods (especially fats) and hormones that help control blood sugar levels. The pancreas has two types of cells–exocrine and endocrine–which form different types of tumors. Stomach Cancer: Stomach cancer, also called gastric cancer, starts in the stomach. While stomach cancer can develop anywhere in the organ, most stomach cancers develop in the mucus-producing cells of the stomach’s inner lining. Small Intestine Cancer: Small intestine, also called small bowel cancer, occurs in the small intestine–a long tube that carries digested food between the stomach and the large intestine (colon). Because the small intestine is made up of many different types of cells, different types of cancer can start there. There are four major types of small intestine cancers, which include adenocarcinomas, carcinoid tumors, lymphomas, and sarcomas.
