Les Cousins (folk anthology), plus Steeleye Span Live and Eric Brace & Thomm Jutz Rock wasn’t the only kind of music that was exploding in the 1960s: a major folk and blues revival was underway on both sides of the Atlantic. In the States, many artists who championed these genres performed at famed clubs such as Greenwich Village’s Gaslight and Bitter End; Saratoga Springs, New York’s Caffe…

Seeing some posts today about the two different Jennifer actresses that appear in the BttF films (Claudia Wells and Elizabeth Shue) which means it's time to infodump about the secret, third Jennifer, because everything about this story is still wild to me.
Apparently Claudia Wells was genuinely the first choice for Jennifer in the original movie, but at the time they started filming she was doing a pilot for a TV series. So the first Jennifer they filmed any scenes with was actually a totally different actress, Melora Hardin. Who would have gone on to be the Jennifer in the films if it weren't for the fact that when they recast Marty, there were people on the crew who made a fuss about Michael J. Fox being. Significantly shorter than Eric Stoltz (5'4" versus 5'11" or so), and who argued that Hardin's Jennifer was "too tall" for Fox's Marty. So they recast her.
Anyways I think this is all very stupid and since BttF fanfic writers and artists already have to juggle two different Jennifers we should rebel against canon further and subsume Hardin's Jennifer into our depictions, too. Justice for tall Jennifer.

Dan Blocker
Tumblr media
Physique: Rotund Build/Heavyset Height: 6′ 4″ (1.93 m)
Bobby Dan Davis Blocker (December 10, 1928 – May 13, 1972; aged 43) was an American television actor and Korean War veteran, who played Hoss Cartwright in the NBC Western television series Bonanza.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Big, burly Dan Blocker is a classic bearish icon who is definitely in the hallowed halls of the Great Pantheon of Bearish Gods. Blocker only did a handful of movies in his 17-year acting career, but he became one of the most beloved and popular television stars of the 1960s for his portrayal of big Eric “Hoss” Cartwright on the Western series Bonanza.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Born in De Kalb, TX, he attended Texas Military Institute and in 1946 played football at Baptist-affiliated Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from Sul Ross State University Teacher's College in Alpine, TX, where he earned a master's degree in the dramatic arts. After two years of military service, where he earned a Purple Heart, he became an actor in 1955. His first film role was in "Hook a Crook" (1955).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He was married to Dolphia Parker (25 August 1952 - 13 May 1972) ( his death) with whom he had four children, one of whom is cute daddy actor, Dirk Blocker. What else… before taking up acting, Blocker worked as a rodeo performer, a bouncer in a bar and a high-school teacher.
On May 13, 1972, Blocker died in Los Angeles, at age 43, of a pulmonary embolism following gall bladder surgery. Blocker also left behind a legacy of good will that survives to this day, as Bonanza is in perpetual reruns on various cable channels, decades after its cancellation.
Tumblr media
RECOMMENDATIONS: Bonanza (TV Series 1959–1972) The Cockeyed Cowboys of Calico County (1970) Lady in Cement (1968) Cimarron City (1958)

Sunday, 12-01-24, 2pm Pacific
'Afternoon, all...Mr. Baggins back with your Afternoon Stack of Classic Wax! Just got the oil changed on the ol' Wayback Machine, and the dial set for 1971, one of the biggest years for all manner of music. For one thing, it was the year that each of The Beatles began to really come into their own on their solo recording, and each of them was "productive" in their own way, putting out songs that would become classics. Here's John (who had been issuing his own singles since 1969), with my favorite of all his solo releases, from early '71.
youtube
George gave us one of his greatest songs, released in early '71, it was perfectly timed to give 12-year-old me, going through middle-school hell, something to hang onto. This was the first record I ever bought for myself, with a baggie full of pennies.
youtube
And George basically handed this song fully fleshed-out to Ringo, who only had to put his vocal on it, and it became an instant smash hit. George was generous and gave Ringo total songwriting credit.
youtube
And Paul? Well, it was just Another Day...
youtube
And there were lots of OTHER artists putting out amazing work in '71, like this mostly-forgotten Linda Ronstadt track, which I remember as one of her best records, pre-"heart like a wheel".
youtube
And Rod Stewart mostly left Faces, and gave us the huge hit that was Maggie May, backed with this Tim Hardin-penned song, making it a Double-A-Side single.
youtube
And hard-rockers Sugarloaf gave us this follow-up to their smash hit "Green Eyed Lady", this one just grazed the Top 40, but left an indelible impression on this 12-year-old musical kid.
youtube
And this was second single, but the first big hit single by Cat Stevens...another song that made a big impression on this 12-year-old musical kid.
youtube
The Temps had put out several huge hits in a row, and ended with this mellow bit of introspection that went all the way to No. 1.
youtube
And having recently shed Eric Burdon, WAR came fully into its own in '71 with this as their first big hit, All Day Music. I loved it then, I love it now.
youtube
That's it for today's Afternoon Stack Of Classic Wax! Mr. Baggins signing off for now; I'll be back at 7pm Pacific with a set to soothe your achin' nerves and help ease us all into a good night.
Until then, be kind, babies, be kind.
Baggins out.

Funny how the actress playing Jennifer in Back to the future was originally Melora Hardin but was replaced because she was "too tall" compared to Michael J Fox, after he replaced Eric Stoltz
I honestly saw that info years ago but couldn't find it again and was starting to think it was a false memory. Fate made I eventually encountered it for the second time! And I'm very proud of it! Because now I CAN use it to say females aren't necessarily shorter than males.
Hardin's point of view on it. Yeah i trust it must have been painful! It's a really shitty reason too

Note
Melora Hardin had originally been cast as Jennifer Parker back when Eric Stoltz had been cast as Marty McFly. After they recast Marty as Michael J Fox, as Hardin was taller than Fox and they had to recast her as Claudia Wells, lest the t4t energy of that pairing destroy the audiences of 1985.
i actually never knew jennifer had been recast before the first movie . the more you know
